478 KB Privateer Quest: Bravo Thread MachineSpirit !!V73EN+A6MJw 03/02/12(Fri)21:03 No.18180556
    > First thread is auto-saging after 40 posts and only a skeleton crew was on the thread. Hopefully this thread doesn't go full retard!

Without a word you send your orders to your allies, though you spare a moment to verbalize them to your own bridge, "Alter course and prepare to target the Cobra when it comes about!" The extra metallic ring from your echo once again pleases your flesh brain.

The auger feeds pour into your cogitators as you combat an unusual sensation of panic at the Sword's presence. The frigate's course becomes erratic as it begins to come around toward your position, while the Cobra and Orion alter their courses away from your squadron. The nearest unidentified contact moves with the swift pair, while the last contact begins to slowly turn away as well.

"Sire to Sister, tally ho on the Zephyr Spirit! She's a slow Vagabond, shouldn't be a problem chasing her down once we deal with these escorts!"

Athe moves toward the auger console, leaning over the young machine spirit's display with a firm grip on the console. You note that she often does this while studying charts and maps.

    >Orders, Captain?

Well, let's hope this does better.

So, ask Athe what she sees, increase speed as we head in, if we can, close this gap faster.

It may be a pipe dream, but I'd sure like to capture that Sword.

yes. 40k setting, modified Rogue Trader rules.

    and summary of events:

You are Captain Elesh Phryx, a rogue techpriest on her first mission as a pira- privateer captain. Your objective is to seize the Zephyr Spirit or its cargo, then return to your patron's base of operations.

Your squadron has just begun its attack run, but the target has a Sword Class Frigate for an escort. Who the hell did intel on this target?
    >> Anonymous 03/02/12(Fri)21:35 No.18180891
Get a scan on the final unidentified ship. Have the Alias continue moving toward the Spirit. Emendationem is to stay close to us. We will need both ships to take on the Sword.
    >> MachineSpirit !!V73EN+A6MJw 03/02/12(Fri)21:37 No.18180906
    >>18180771

Athe's eyes never leave the auger displays as she studies the information.
"Captain, that sword might have us outgunned, but the cobra isn't in good position to support her. She might outgun our ships individually, but she's still an escort."

do you wish to order All Ahead Full? (roll 1d100 if so)

Well then, assuming Athe is the auger specialist, have her do that.

Otherwise, full ahead, particular courses as in >>18180906
    >> MachineSpirit !!V73EN+A6MJw 03/02/12(Fri)22:02 No.18181177
The surge of power toward the engines causes your cogitators spin as your ship's acceleration nudges you into your throne. Your augers fill with static as their power levels flux, ruining your scans. Luckily, Magos Taylor has better results, identifying the ship as a second Orion Class Transport. Athe wobbles as your drives send a tremor down the ships' mighty spine.
"Captain, we're about to enter the Sword's range, but we'll be close enough to respond shortly after."

"Sire to Sister, confirm my orders? Do you want me to join up to hit the Sword or go after the Zephyr?"

    >oh god this map is going to get messy

On the map you have the ship listed as the 'Alias'. Which name is correct?

Regardless, have it continue to chase the Spirit with intent to capture. If possible, have it pass close enough to the Cobra to get a shot off, and maybe draw it away from us.

"All hands brace for impact!" cries Athe, moments before the Sword's sunsear batteries wreak havoc upon your ship. "Augers damaged! Prow weaponry damaged but leaking atmosphere!" Alarms blare as your cogitators adjust your macrobattery fire before your salvo completes, bringing your Mars pattern battery onto the Sword's hull after her voidshield collapses. Magos Taylor's battle grunts are transmitted openly as his ship's salvo smashes into the Sword's unprotected hull until her flanks belch atmosphere and vast plumes of flame into the void. Secondary explosions soon follow, sending your victim into a wild spiral as she burns. Several of the bridge crew mutter somber prayers as the Sword vanishes from augers in a cloud of debris.

"Sire to Sister, the cobra and orions are running. Do we give chase?"
"Magos Taylor to Captain Phryx. We took a hit to our bridge but we're still in the fight. How bad is your damage?"

Our target is the Zephyr Spirit, pursuing the other ships would be inefficient. And the Admech hats inefficiency.

Tell him how bad it is.

I'm assuming the Sword is unsalvageable, but if not, we should see what we can get from it after this is over. The Sire is to continue chasing the Spirit. We two will head for the Cobra.

BLASPHEMY! Just because those blind fools refused to see the value of our research is no reason to abandon the glories of the Omnissiah and act like some foolish, illogical fleshsack! We may have been forced to work independently for now, but when we have gathered enough knowledge of the Omnissiah's glory, we will return, and remind them all of the true purpose of the AdMech: to seek knowledge in all its forms, for the Omnissiah! Then they'll see! Yes, they'll all see!

That said, it would be most efficient to acquire as much resources from this event as possible. Perhaps have the Sire go and deal with the Zephyr, to ensure our main objective does not escape, and the other two ships chase the other fleeing enemies?

Captain Wilson chuckles as you ask him to request the Zephyr Spirit's surrender. "Zephyr Spirit, Zephyr Spirit. This is Enshrouded Sire, your friends are burning hulks or fleeing at best speed. We'll accept your surrender now."

"To hell with you, pirates! My crew will never surrender! We'll fight you to the last man, in the name of Lord I," several las blasts cut the weak-voiced fleshbag's words short, followed by a moment of silence.

"This is the Zephyr Spirit, we accept your offer."

I think this just about fits where your feelings lie with regards to the AdMech, though you may never have actually worked for them, but for a Magos who left them and ingrained these things in you. I wasn't expecting the techpriest route, really.

And for the record, the Spirit surrendering was a result of a natural 100 by the captain. natural 100 on inspire crew = bad

if anyone has any questions, I can stick around for a bit to try and answer them

My bad, edit fail. First I was going to add "And by deal with, I meant cripple their engines then come join us," then I remembered the problems with towing ships in 40K and figured engine crippling on a ship we need to capture was a bad idea (plus, I seem to remember that has a tendency to make them explode), but forgot to switch the names. Revised plan:
Have the undamaged Sire come help us deal with the fleeing ships, since we are outnumbered, already damaged, and the Cobra can fight back, while the already-damaged Domum goes after the slower and weaker Zephyr.

This is, of course, assuming that doing so wouldn't take too long and allow the enemy to escape, I'm unsure just how fast each group is moving and whether (or how much) the damage our ship and the Domum has taken will slow them down.

I gotta be honest, the name and path suggestion was a bit of a joke, and I had wholly expected them to be out rolled by something else. Since it wasn't though, I feel obligated to stick this out.

Goddamnit, I thought I posted this a while ago.
