38 KB Privateer Quest III MachineSpirit !!ZwhWAwcuTHG 03/05/12(Mon)17:23 No.18217625
You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and rookie captain of a Hazeroth class raider, 'Amalgum Sister'. To prove your worth and ability, you've been tasked with capturing the Zephyr Spirit, or her cargo, as she transitioned through Galia's Respite. Your ambush nearly went awry with the discovery of a Sword class frigate among the convoy's escorts, but you and your allies saw victory as the faster ships abandoned the frigate and your target. With the Sword burning in the void and her allies fleeing, you commanded the Spirit to surrender. Her captain's defiance ended when a member of his bridge crew relieved him of command.

"Captain, the Cobra and Orions are continuing their escape course and the Spirit is burning retro jets. Shall we have Magos Taylor or Captain Wilson take the objective while we assess our damage, or would you like to send our boarding teams to take the prize instead?" Your XO and bridge crew look to you expectantly.

Athe nods, leaning to speak into the ship's vox caster. "All hands, prepare for boarding action. We'll be taking the prize!" As she begins ordering helm to adjust course, Magos Taylor's voice resonates through your MIU.
"Captain Phryx, shall Captain Wilson or I lend our boarding parties to secure the Spirit? Or perhaps some repair teams to help seal your hull breaches for warp travel?"

Only your ship is capable of matching speed with the fleeing ships, let alone attempting to catch them. And your ship has damaged sensors and prow weaponry. You could order your allies to give chase, but they are slower than the targets and you'd also be left alone and damaged.

You order Captain Wilson to give the fleeing ships a token chase, your own ship closing on the near-stationary Zephyr Spirit. The venerable hull of the ancient Vagabond transport sports hundreds of craters upon her sturdier sections, though several areas were clearly replaced wholesale in the past. Your armsmen contingent transfers with oddly little trouble for a group of fresh recruits, and they quickly move to seize the ship's bridge.

As the boarding party does their oddly clean work, Athe approaches your side with a data slate. "Captain, we'll need to seal the hull before attempting a warp jump, but we'll not be able to do so in the open void. I believe we should head for the Vorbis belt and use an asteriod as an anchor and extra matterial for repairs."

    >Magos Taylor's repair crews will transfer after the prize is secured.

With the aid of Magos Taylor's combat servitor and armsmen parties, the Zephyr Spirit is quickly under your control. "Boarding party to Captain Phryx, she's ours. Transmitting cargo manifest and specs!"

As your squadron moves toward the Vorbis Belt for repairs, Captain Wilson contacts you. "Congratulations on your victory, Captain Phryx. We're sure Magos Banks will be pleased with your actions, though I believe you'll need a good three days of repairs before your ship can make a warp jump and that your prize lacks a bridge crew. Magos Taylor and I both have enough armsmen and spare men to fill the Spirit's prize crew, we could easily escort her back to Tortuga and Magos Banks while you make repairs. Otherwise, please release me from this mission so that I might raid on my own, as my part is complete."

Your request for a period of processing is granted, Captain Wilson never losing his strangely cheery tone while he is clearly eager to raid something that he can claim profit from. As your cogitators begin to churn, Athe makes her way toward you with a grin. "Good news, captain! The Spirit's former captain had nearly a cargo's worth of drink stashed away in his quarters, and by rights we can claim his personal effects from the prize. They'll fetch quite a sum if the poor bastard had any taste."

    >What type of asteroid will you attempt to make repairs at?
    > Large asteroid. Erratic orbit, but your ship will easily be masked by it's sheer size
    > small asteroid. Fairly stable orbit, but your ship's augers won't be blinded, but your ship will be easily detected.
    > eliptical orbit asteroid. Generally medium sized, it would strike a balance between large and small asteroids, but you may end up in a poor location while conducting repairs

Captain Wilson and Magos Taylor bid you farewell as they take your prize, minus the lion's share of the former Captain's booze stockpile, and head toward home. Your own ship heads deep into the Vorbis Belt, quickly locating a sizeable asteroid and lashing fast to the behemoth to conduct repairs. Without a proper dock or repair webbing for the ship, you're forced to simply seal the hull damage present, but your augers and prow weaponry are easily repaired with spare parts and clever rerouting of power systems. Within two days you are ready to make way, and your ride has conveniently relocated near the edge of the Vorbis Belt.

Returning to the bridge after personally inspecting several major repairs, you find yourself harassed by Athe, her hands removing overlooked bits of debris from your robes. As Sister breaks from her temporary berth, a sudden power surge moves toward your augers, providing you with an unwanted active scan of the area as you attempted a quiet exit.

The youth covering the auger station cries in panic as the scan results pour into his display, "Captain! The Sword!"

"Captain, if we make a break for it she'll detect us for sure, but she was burning badly when we last saw her. If luck is still with us, we might be able to take her."

you could form a prize crew by dividing your crew among the two ships. You'd lose efficiency, but both ships could make it to Tortuga.

The ship's thrusters burn into the void as Amalgum Sister dances through the void as her momentum carries her into an elegant backflip. A hard burn of the main engines halts her beside the Sword's hide as you open a vox channel. "Surrender or be sent to the Omnissiah!" Your challenge is met with a haggard laugh, and nothing more.

"All hands brace for impact and prepare to board!" Thrusters again propel you toward the frigate, the whine and groans of two impacting metal bodies reverberating throughout the ships. "Boarders away!"

The battle rages for six hours as your armsmen and crew fight a bitter assault toward the ship's bridge and engineering. Several parties from the Sword assaulted your own ship, planting charges in suicide attacks. On the seventh hour, Athe voxes you from the enemy bridge, pain and triumph mingled strongly in her tone. "We've taken the enemy's bridge, Captain. I'm venting the atmosphere in the ene-" The transmittion is cut short as weapons fire begins anew.

Your flesh brain roils with relief at the sound of Athe's voice, the overwhelming fear of losing your last ally from the old days fading as your cogitators resume control of your will. "Good job, Athe. Transmit ship data when you've secured the machine spirits.

"Captain, the Sword seems to have just finished her hull and main drive repairs, her warp drives and gellar field are sound. We'll need another day of repairs due to the melta bombs planted during the fighting, though."

Your raised hand silences him as you monitor your meager medicae corps progress and the efforts of several boarding teams to clear parts of the Sword's medicae deck. "We'll need servitors to clear any more of this shit, Sarge." You note their weak and lazy flesh deficiencies.

"Captain... you have enough green crewmen to get that frigate moving and pass as whats left of the ship's crew after an attack. The sisters would surely give your crew aid." Your cogitors note the man's implication, wondering if he fancies himself a captain as well.

Your personal supervision and experience hasten the repairs to Amalgum Sister, allowing you to tranfer your command to the captured frigate within a standard day. A short visit to the ravaged medicae deck finds Athe sedated as her condition slowly deteriorates despite your crew's best efforts. With her pale face fresh in your mind, you return to the Sword's bridge, cogitators blocking Athe's dried blood from your flesh brain's senses, and order your small fleet to the system's edge. A lone asteroid mining ship comes up on your augers, but your current situation forces you to ignore the prey and initiate a warp jump to the Jtusti system.

Your first jump is rough as the edges of the ancient warp storm force several course corrections, shoals of dark energies threatening to tear into your hull. A day later your fleet hastily passes the doomed worlds of the Jtusti system and your ships begin their warp jump toward Serentus. Your second venture into the warp sees your gellar field's power flux wildly, though the field's integrity is barely maintained. Amalgum Sister's crew suffers nightmares when their gellar field weakened for several hours, though thankfully no deamonic incursions occured.

Six days after leaving Galia's Respite, your ships tear back into realspace on the edge of the Serentus system. Within an hour, system defense ships are attempting to hail you and altering their courses to intercept, cutting your visit to a fevered Athe short.

"Unidentified ships, this is Sister Superior Ethel, commander of Aegis squadron. Identify yourselves and state your intentions!"

You languidly weave your tale of woe to Sister Ethel. At first she clearly doubts your story, but your cogitators relinquish control to your flesh brain as you explain that your XO is critically wounded and fading, the sudden emotion in your voice crushing what doubt lingered in her mind. In an instant you are contacted by Serentus IV's space dock and instructed to alter course for docking and receive hospitaller medicae squads. You give command of the ship to the scarred voidsman, Quien, and return to monitor Athe's condition for the next six hours. Perhaps your cogitators will regain control once your flesh brain ceases this wasteful expulsion of fluids from your eyes.
