Well, you woke up in the city one night without any memory of what led you to that point. You then proceeded to eat, and eat, and eat, giving you a much more capable body and mind, not to mention assorted abilities like a poisonous bite and an electrical shock. You've got three people that you figure you can trust in the process: Claire, a human wizard who saved you when you were down; Gaul, the only paladin of Heironeous who was cool about you having done a lot of bad if it meant you were going to turn things around; and, uh, well it didn't have a name per say, but there's a blood-based bodysnatcher who also helped you out, and seems to have some connection to you.

You've been hunted by adventurers, and also had a cult think you were a shard of some being called the Devourer, whom they are trying to bring into the world. Gaul seems to be here to stop them--or something else that smacks of really nasty juju--and you said you'd like to team up with him long-term. Good protection for you, being linked with a super-holy warrior, and the job surely offers a lot of food opportunities.

As for after you said you'd pair up, well, things are a bit hazy.

    (Fight post incoming)

Your longsword is on the ground next to you. Snatching it up, you roll underneath the mess of striking blades at arm's level, and apply blade to the easiest target--the lovely unarmored back of the legs.

    >1d20+3=17 Tumble
    >1d20+6-2=10 Longsword HIT
    >1d8+4=12 Damage

The pressure is relieved from Gaul considerably and immediately, as one of his foes plunges to the ground with a scream. Blood start spurting out of an artery in a tremendous spray. You've still got it.

Gaul takes advantage of the relieve to slice open one man's left arm. One of the two turns toward you with a curved blade, but despite your awkward position you just barely manage to turn it aside into the wall.
    >And I do mean just barely

There's one going after you, and one continuing to fight Gaul. That last one doesn't have great odds, seeing as how Gaul was managing to hold off all three with a more defensive fighting style.

Nope, that's two standard actions. You can certainly shock him though, and that seems to be the consensus.

    >Lightning Rod
Quick as a snake, you grab the dull back of the curved blade and dump electricity into it. The sparks zip right up the blade faster than you can see, the sword's blade channeling it straight into your foe's hand with almost no chance to avoid it.

    >DC 17 save... failed
    >2d8 = 4 nonlethal damage

Not quite as much as you were hoping, but when Gaul shoves his sword with a sickening splortch into his opponent's gut, the one you just fried turns and flees full tilt through a doorway.

"Gaul... you might want to look away for this part..." We manage to rasp before falling on the freshly dead, gorging ourselves with an almost reflexive gluttony.

Once we regain some semblance of lucidity, we turn to Gaul and speak through bloody lips.

"This is what I am, who I am, all I know. If you can accept this, perhaps we can find the real reason you were led here, and even do something about it. But first, you must answer my questions for my memory is a bit.. Hazy. Where is Claire? What's happening in this city? Who were those men? Are we still in Thurminham? Please tell me quickly, because I fear we most move soon or regret not doing so."

Yes, though your weapon damage will decrease to 1d6+4 and it will be a light weapon, so no power attacking (not that you have the feat for that). Your chance for a crit will go up by doing that as well.

    >Gained: Simple Weapon Proficiency
    >Gained: Knowledge (Local--Thurminham sewers) 2 ranks

No great changes to your body, though right now that seems like it's more of a relief. Your ability to handle the simpler weapons that start every warrior's training--and for many, the weapons that end their warrior training--is now complete. Nearly anything you pick up you have the muscle memory to employ

You had some knowledge of the sewers yourself, but it was merely short forays in--you knew to beware of crocodiles, and that there were definitely a wide variety of things taking residence below.

But you didn't quite realize how extensive and deep the network of tunnels and drainage was. You can vaguely pull a sense of 'home' from the images whirling and settling into place in your head, but more easily accessed are the memories of fear--places of death, places of silence, and a place where you'd be dead before you had time to scream. There are things in the sewers, deep down... things that screech, things that hiss, things that strike from hiding, their whole body quick as a snake's strike.

Also, you know about the tripwire five steps past the door.

"We are attacking the cult based on the clues you found of this hideout. Are you okay?"
"I'm not sure. Head's still hurting."

Gaul moves surprising fast for a man in armor, but even still you have to continue waiting for him. It gives you plenty of time to scout ahead and report... and to engage in a light manner of hunting. A pair of rats too foolish to clear out of your way have their lifespan measured in moments after you notice them. One even thought to intimidate you with a tiny hiss. Your caution seems vindicated as you close in. The cold air gets markedly colder quickly, to a chill breeze. It seems to be radiating from a large blue-green mass of tendrils in the center of the room, waving slightly. Some form of plant? You can't be sure. You can be sure, however, that your quarry skirted a wide path around it, and was moving quite slowly given how much scent has lingered here. In fact... his isn't the only human scent you notice. Hmmm. He might be getting close to the cultist's base. If you pressed on alone you could probably catch him at this point, but Gaul might assume you need help and charge in here unaware. You might also find more trouble than you want to handle alone. Then again, you might let your quarry get the alarm raised. What to do...

"There's some sort of plant up ahead. From the way the scent trail goes through there you'll need to move slowly, and stay far from the plant. I think we're really close to the lair."
"Let's go, then. Soon as we get out of the danger area, don't wait up, take the guy down. Alive, if you can."
    You don't answer that.

The tendrils seem to wave slightly more as you move through the room, but that might just be your imagination. As soon as you're out of its sight, you take off at a run, and just hope the stream of thoughts you acquired will let you know of any problems ahead in time. You're getting closer, you can smell it.

Use detect magic I guess? It's not like we ever use it. At least find out if it's really that type of candle and maybe I can tell us something about how they work regarding range, target, complexity of messages delivered...

Now that's good use of our abilities. Nice.

You don't usually use magic, but when you do, it's to see if there is other magic around. There certainly is in this case. You don't actually know about the various schools of magic, but this candle does something that makes an active change to something, you know that much. Not especially powerful, either.

Best to bring it back to Gaul and the captive. You carefully make sure it doesn't go out as you bring it back--no clue what that would do.

Gaul is just barely getting the cultist out of shock when you get back.

    Action?

Tell Gaul about the candle but let him handle the interrogation (at least for now).

Sorry, bro. You're probably a cool dude but posting my location on 4chan? No dice. I put an email in the field though, you can reach me there if you really like.

    >Interrogation
Looks like I know exactly where to start next thread with! Because writing that up will take a while. Anything else before I hit the hay?

I was actualy only expecting a broad area like I dunno "Germany" but okay.

While Gaul does the interrogation we should be hidden. If the cultists were warned and come to deal with us we can ambush them.

We could take some time to have Gaul fill in our splotchy memory.

That's actually a good idea. I dunno if we've tried that yet but we could ask him about the time before our arrival in the city. Like if anything had happened that they, that night, the week before or something like that.

Nah, based on what I've said on with this name/trip before, I think more than "Europe" is enough for someone to come closer to tracking me down than I'd ever want. AND ON 4CHAN YOU CAN NEVER ASSUME SOMEONE WON'T TRY.
Rampant paranoia aside, feel free to toss an email my way if you're bored.

I'll tuck that into the writeup. And I'll check the archived thread for anything else people mention before I start the next one.

Well, that's it for tonight for me. Take care, everyone. Thanks for letting things pick up mostly where they got left off, that's the kind of treat you can't ever hope to get as a GM.

Check the trip to the last one TempDM posted before vanishing. Writing style is the same too. It's real.
