Quick recap of story so far.

Daniel, a blind orphan gets cured from his blindness by a mysterious man going by the name "Miracle Lord". To thank him, he leaves his home to learn magic.
In capital Joros of Joros, he becomes apprentice to satyr Nxisa, who teaches him counter-magic. After year of training, they defeat a rogue translator-necromancer and novice elementalist together.

Later on they move to Nxisa's homeland Daciht. Nxisa needed to participate in capture/kill of Dark Archmage Ingram who is seeking ancient flying fortress Xjaal. However, she told Daniel that they'd be only going there for work.
Their airship is however shot down by the passing Dark Archmage and his black dragon Gaia.
Daniel, Nxisa and other survivors continue the travel by foot. After long trip, they reach Daciht and hear that ambush was a complete failure and most of people participating had been killed by Gaia and Dark Archmage. Nxisa disappears to mourn her dead friends, while Daniel helps a local satyr to find his lost brother in the mountains. The brother was eaten by mountain troll whom Daniel kills in combat.

When Daniel gets back, he and Nxisa get job to shoo away some Cultists of Edel from abandoned church of sun. They manage to reason with the cultists, and no violence was involved.
After two weeks of training, Daniel and Nxisa participate raiding a draconian camp in the mountains. The raid is a failure. Nxisa gets seriously wounded by a huge draconian. However, Daniel manages to lure him and throw him off a cliff.
They manage to get back to city, and Daniel strikes a deal with Miracle Lord Edel. Nxisa gets healed. As price Daniel has to find his machine in the Xjaal before the Dark Archmage can. Since Xjaal is flying, he also makes a deal with local wimpy dragon Kalim, promising him share of the treasures found. Daniel concluded the day by going scarf-buddying with a cultist of Edel.

    Okayeh.
I am having a pretty damning headache here. Sent the letter yesterday. I invited Nenonen with us as he is more experienced with these kind of things.
Nxisa told me that we will resume my training for next two weeks. She asked whatever I want to focus more on combat ( she will teach me one spell ) or spellcasting ( two spells ). In fact, she gave me short list of spells that she could teach.

Banish ( Send things to their home-plane. Difficult, might not work on stronger foes )
Dispel Undead ( Erodes magic that animates the undead. Dunno about this one )
Paralyze ( If succesful, paralyzes the opponent for some while )
Induce Headache ( Strange one. Nxisa told that it can make spellcasting much more difficult for enemy )
Anti-Magic Field ( creates an aura of sort that weakens magic. Makes spellcasting more difficult when it's on. )
Imbue Weapon ( Creates temporary enchantment based on other spell. )

Nxisa also told I could see local mage academy if I wanted to learn some other spells. It's not free though.

Right when I'm about to go to sleep, I find this. I thought you forgot about us OP!

Anti-magic field. We need to be able combat the Dark Archmage if we ever get into a situation in which we end up facing him. Combine this with combat training. Sounds like a counter-mage combo to me.

After two weeks of hard work, I learn paralyze and improve my swordplay a lot. Nothing particularly special happened during two weeks.

Nenonen arrived day ago with Qu. I guess she's his assistant. He told me that he managed to find some information regarding the possible position of Xjaal. It might hover near the edge of desert of Zere. Supposedly Archmage Am's assistant ( Jehra-Vera ) had found some neat tidbits from old books.

So, we have a good plan now. I, Nenonen and Qu will use Kalim's help to aboard Xjaal and possibly turn of the invisibility-veil. We should recover machine first and get it quietly to Daciht. From there we will take an airship and personally deliver the machine to Jania.
Nenonen said that they will take care of the machine in Jania, probably will lock it up like many other powerful artifacts.

Should we invite anyone else with us? And should we buy any specific equipment?

Hm, enchantments should be fine. The enchant on armor has been a blessing so far. I recharged sword recently. The robe doesn't need any recharging as it is made from materials that naturally protect from offensive magic. I could get myself a whole new enchant...
I have 300 pien to burn after all.
Overall, my equipment is in good shape. I could buy spell-scrolls ( one use ) for really sticky situations or something. Or potions or something? Hiring help might work too.

I don't suppose there's something like a powder that could confuse our enemies with something like smoke, thunder or bright light? We do seem to be fairly squishy and rely on hit'n'run and opportunities if they arise, and the orb of light hasn't been all that reliable on offense. Which may be just our luck tho.

Is our featherfall spell enough backup if something really bad happens to our dragon friend?
Otherwise, yeah check what potions are available.

    (great quest by the way)

Featherfall should be enough for. Qu can glide and Nenonen knows slow featherfall as well so eh, no problems with that I guess.

Anyway, I found a shop that sells all kinds of potions.
Healing potions, potions of mana-restoration, berserker stuff, love potions ( what ) etc.

    Healing Potion - 12 pien
    Mana Potion - 15 pien
    Berserker potion - 40 pien
    Toughen skin - 60 pien
    Stasis - 40 pien

They don't sell poisons for some reason. Something with string of murders few years ago. And yeah, I think I found something like you described:

    Bottled Flash - 10 pien
    Bottled Thunder - 10 pien

I bought rope. With the potions, I have 100 pien left.

    --------

Few days pass travelling around and searching. We picked Kalim with us, who seems to be very anxious. He carries bit of our equipment ( food and other ). He was offended when we told him to carry the stuff. Took bit of negotiating and shit.
So, it is I, Nenonen and Qu. Nenonen and Qu are experienced in searching ruins and stuff.

After a night, I think we finally found it! A massive invisibility-circle. If we go inside the circle, the Xjaal should be revealed to us. It is slowly drifting east. The circle looks fragile, I am pretty sure I might be able to disrupt it if I get close enough. The resulting energy-flare might alert unwanted people though...
Then again, breaking it might break some other circles, so it might be easier to move around.

    Okay, what do?

We pierced the veil and now we can see the Xjaal! It is huge! Holy fuck!
There are even minor forests growing on it ( I think those were originally small gardens )

Landing was a success. Invisibility-veil did not break.
We need a plan. Kalim wants to find treasures now, and I am not sure if we can stop him. Nenonen wonders how in hell is this thing still invisible and flying. It would require ridiculously powerful artifact to fly thing this big this high for 1000 years.
So, any ideas what should we do foremost in Xjaal? It is quite big, so exploring will take some time. Qu also reminds that there might be some monsters inside. Magical guardians or something along those lines.

    What should we look for?

One thing good about Zere was that they had massive hard-on for magic. Almost every trap has had a magical component, making them easy to detect. However, traps have been... powerful. Lucky for us, 1000 years have done things to this place. Malfunctioning traps etc. We accidentally triggered an explosive trap, but it did not go off because it was too old.

After some searching, I think we found the bridge or whatever. It is locked and requires a key to open ( or certain magical spell ). Nenonen could try to force it open though, but... I am worried, the door is trapped.

So I assume daystar refers to the sun and this guardian is working for the sungod that doesn't like Edel or his eyes very much? So either Edel blatantly lied to us about this mission or the machine is something the sungod took from him because he deemed it too dangerous in the wrong hands.

If that leap was true we might already be in a battle of the gods and just don't know it yet.

Well let's just hope Edel doesn't gain some sort of control over us via these weird eyes. Would suck for us if it turned out he reincarnated into us but was too weak to become the dominant personality or some shit like that.
Evil trickster gods do tend to like these tactics tho. Not sure about "evil" trickster gods that heal people tho.

Disrupt is successful! Spell is interrupted and the unleashed energy damages the thing slightly.
Nenonen is preparing a spell, Qu is trying to get on the guardian.
The enemy seems to have its attention fixed on me.
    Any ideas?

"Heyhey, I am not Edel! Not Edel!"
No response. I narrowly avoid getting smashed by the guardian.
    It won't listen.

Nenonen's fire blast hits the middle of the guardian, cracking the armor slightly and staggering it.
Qu has landed on top of the thing and seems to be searching for something.

Cast barrier and keep dodging. That circle on the chest is tempting but probably barriered to hell. You have allies though, let them do their thing.

Qu manages to do... something. Jammed a sword in a weak spot. The guardian looks more sluggish. I use the opportunity to cast a barrier and disrupt the chest. It has no effect. The circle on chest is way too well-protected for disrupt to have effect. If I concentrated for a while, I might be able to cause damage to the circle. I would be only protected by my barrier though...

Nenonen seems to be preparing another spell, it appears to be freezing kind.

I try to paralyze it, but it doesn't work. I guess it only works on 'normal' creatures.
Used disrupt on the circle on the head. It weakens it. I disrupt second time. The circle breaks and the head falls limp. The shock and Nenonen's blasts must have weakened it a quite bit.
Nenonen asks it to surrender. The guardian replies and Nenonen translates:

    >Nenonen: "It doesn't want to surrender. I think it is broken, Qu jammed a sword through its soul-binding circle, so it has hard time operating. The shock damaged the circle further."
"So I guess we'll just have to kill it?"
    >Nenonen: "Yeah. Qu can finish it off."
    >Guardian: "... Xajus vaas exal Edel..."
    >Nenonen: "To protect world from Edel...?"

It doesn't talk, so we simply finish it off by breaking the soul-binding circle. The guardian falls down and melts into black goo.

    "... This is normal, right?"
    >Qu: "Ye, normal. I've dealt with two similar things. They have souls of executed and are controlled by circle. Time was rough on this one."
    >Nenonen: "We can expect more. This place is big, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were 10 or 20 more of these things, some even more well-preserved than this one."

Bam, Nenonen blew the door up.
This place looks gorgeous! Everything is operated through magic. Nenonen said that it isn't -that- amazing, considering Zere was pretty much 'land of magic'.

Anyway, we figured out some stuff.

    Guardians:
We found a panel to disable them all. There were 200 of them guard-duty.

    Location:
It looks like Xjaal is going circular path ( old capital of Zere being the center ). I think we might be able to set a new course, but that might screw up the veil royally.

    The heart:
The located 'heart' of Xjaal. The artifact, maybe?

    We also located the treasure-chambers.
    >> Anonymous 04/14/12(Sat)16:28 No.18712041
    >>18712016
Soo, disable those Guardians first, then go get the loot from the treasure room, making sure that the dragon gets his share before going on to see the Heart just in case it is what we need and taking it causes the island to begin crashing down.

Our goal is to recover the artifact. Which might be problematic if it is also 'heart' of the damn fortress.
I disabled all of the guardians. It is much safer this way. There still will be traps and other nasty things.

Oh well. Nenonen said that he will stay here and figure out this shit. That leaves Qu and me. We'll go check out the heart.

I found Kalim. He was in the treasure-chambers. There were little amounts of wealth inside. I guess they forgot all the treasure back where-ever.
Anyway, I'll leave dragon to swim in the small pile of treasure.

    -------------------------------------

So... this is the heart. Edel's Machine... I know it for sure.
It is kinda big. Bigger than I thought it would be. It is powering the Xjaal, meaning that if we try to take it, this whole thing will fall down. Argh!
I am not even sure what it does! It just stands there! Or well, it flashed when I entered the room.
    Man, what should we do...?

I leave the heart to be.
We found some walls with images and writing. The writing was incomplete ( and parts were ruined ). It helped us to understand the history a bit.

Constructions were started after sealing of 'daystar' ( refers to Edel ). He had left a tremendously powerful artifact. High-priest received command to build a giant ark ( Xjaal ) to keep it away from mortals. It also says that the Xjaal was intended for other uses ( housing royal family, chapel for their gods, etc. )
It took 100 years to construct Xjaal, and that wasn't enough. There is some writing about a great calamity ( Nenonen says it refers to fall of Zere ), which forced them to lift Xjaal earlier than planned. From that day Xjaal has been floating around invisible.

    That's about it.
    So, Xjaal is actually unfinished.
The defenses were weaker than planned and such. Cool for us I guess.

Anyway, yeah. We'll reactivate the guardians and set course to Jania ( the current archmage is there ). The veil will be kinda fucked, but I am pretty sure we can make it before Dark Archmage notices us.

We managed to set course towards Jania. The veil broke, but we should be fine. I am not sure about other defenses. Nenonen said that the ship should be capable of creating a powerful barrier.

We'll stop in Daciht to get some supplies and to drop the dragon. I also want Nxisa to come with us to Jania!
