    (( PAST THREADS: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Holy%20Grail%20War%20Quest ))

((SUMMARY: THE HOLY GRAIL IS MATERIALIZING IN SEATTLE. ARE YOU A BAD ENOUGH NASUVERSE MAGE'S FAMILIAR TO OBTAIN IT? ))

((IRC is #HGWseattle at Rizon. Please do not create discussion threads for this quest.))
    Today is the day.

Well, every day is 'the day' now, that's the nature of the War. But now things are heating up - I know of most of the Masters, and one of the other Servants. The Chief of Police is the Master of Jack the Ripper, Assassin. I've called the other Masters you know, a biker, a child, and an Einzbern homunculus, to tell them he is planning a press conference. My agents have mapped the building ahead of time, but magical wards prevented them from entering the actual conference room.

The press conference is at noon - six hours from now. Agents have confirmed that the local bike gang is gathering in a nearby pub, along with Rider's (you think it's Rider) Master.

Archer, in spirit form beside me, seems pleased. As am I. Things are going according to plan. I can either sit here in my boat and wait for the outcome of the press conference, continue to seek out the home of the Master (His presumed workshop) and lay traps, or... Well, anything. Few actions on my behalf could jeopardize the plan at this stage.

    Brofist Archer.

Seek out the home of the Master, we know he's going to be out and if we drop a full power trap on his porch he'll already be drained after people have tried to kill him, if he lives, and finish him off that way.

I call one of my agents and retrieve the address. Before leaving, I make sure to trap the boat with temporary runes of unluck. Docking the ship, we head towards his residence - a small house on the outskirts of the city. It doesn't take long, and I load my pistol as we approach.

[There's no way to know what's waiting for us there - what the Master has set up.] Odysseus states. [We must remain as careful as we can. We know he works with barriers, but not the age of his Family or the quality of his crest.]

[We must assume he has one instance of Jack in his home.] I reply. The car stops, [Any remaining traps or suchlike will be nothing in the face of a threat like that. Archer, materialize.]

"Yes." comes Archer's voice behind me. He is reassuring. I examine the front porch from a distance. The place is not marked, nor is it emitting energies like my own traps would. A car sits in the driveway, but it's not the Master's, as far as I can tell.

What do I do from here?

Check for barriers by throwing a rock or something in the house's general direction.

This might not be his actual Atelier but it could be obfuscated somehow. Do a few magic tests to see if it's there, maybe send a small puff of bad luck towards the house and see what pops up.

Ask Archer to cover us as we investigate the car, if he has guests of some kind we should find out what we can about them, we'll break into it and see what documents and identification we can find.

YES! I DIDNT MISS IT THIS WEEK! IT IS A GOOD DAY!
Other than that, don't let the low participation and the beginning discourage you,it's still pretty early, after all.

    >>18937184
We wait until the press conference, if we storm his house he will be alerted probably and everything goes to hell. I say we should enter his house WHILE the press conference-setup is in full motion.
I don't really think that the master would be stupid enough to not expect that someone could find out where he lives, so we should sent our familiar in to check for booby traps if we decide to go in. Also Archer should stay at our side the whole time.

Also Kids, time for a quiz!
Who knows which Servant & Master we can completly ignore?

    >>18937290
We don't know which Master yet. You can usually ignore Lancer, he gets fucked over given fate tradition, but given Big O's luck of F that sort of thing might go to us and Lancer has decent luck this time. Given that we don't know exactly who Rider, Saber, Lancer and Berserker are we're operating on a deficit of information.

It'd be good to know which Master's have which servant.

Caster is going to be nastier business this time around than usual, we've got fucking King Solomon and Archer does not have the skillset to take him out. We're going to have to want to point other people at him.

    >Wait until the press conference

It should be happening any minute now.

    >Send in familiar
Don't have another - the only one I have is you, and you're sort of stuck here with me.

    >Check for barriers
I lob a pebble over the steps up to the porch. Nothing. I frown, nodding at Archer. Mortal magic shouldn't hurt him, and I move to the car. It seems fairly normal. There's faint magical residue on the back seat, but other than that, nothing. I'm frowning as I turn to the house and see someone move in the windows of the second floor.

Shit! I never considered he'd have a family...

    "Archer, Are there wards?"

"No. At least, none that react to me."

And then the front door slams open, a teenager holding a shotgun and facing down Archer.
"Who are you and what do you want with Dad." he asks, finger on the trigger as he clicks off the safety.

    Shit, shit, shit!

I'm assuming we know the Chief's first name.

Mentally get Archer to say that "*name*, asked us to keep you safe, the streets aren't safe and given what's been going on lately with his job he's worried that people are going to try to use you to get to him. Come with us, we're taking you to a more secure location."

Convince her to come with us. We'll wheedle information out of her, see if she knows her father's a Mage, involved in the HGW and what she knows about his plans, his crest and the age of his family. That and we get leverage on him.

    >Don't have another - the only one I have is you, and you're sort of stuck here with me.

Let's make it clear, master: You suck at being a mage.
I mean.. the other masters probably have a shitload of Familiars, like.. Doves and Ravens or Rats or whatever to spy on us.

    >"Who are you and what do you want with Dad." he asks, finger on the trigger as he clicks off the safety.

Welp. Okay. Can we use our mage to shiel us from a shotgunshot? If not, use Big O as Shield, Servants can only get hurt by magical or conceptual weapons. Than shot the Kid, but try not to kill him if possible.
Anyway, shot first, ask questions later. Stupid brat.

Big O has tongue of cunning, unless he has direct evidence against it we can convince him of almost anything. We could tell him that we're his uncle and aunt and he'd believe us. With something like that talking first makes sense, it's harder to get proper answers out of someone with a bullet in them and it really keeps them from trusting and confiding in us.

    [Archer-]
    [I got it.]

"Woah, put that down." Archer says gently. "Chief asked us to keep an eye on you. Let us in, we need to ask you a few questions. To keep you safe." There's a few tense seconds, then the teenager lowers the shotgun, relaxing.
    "Alright. You have a name?"
"Just another officer." he says, "And my partner." he gestures to me. "You don't need to concern yourself with our names."
    "Alright, sir. Please come in."

Pleased I hid my command spells with white gloves, we step in. He closes the door, locks it, then sets down the shotgun. "You guys Black Cats?" he asks. Archer nods and the boy nods, slapping the side of the wall. Purple lines shoot from the point of impact, lacing through the house. There;s a sound like armor strapping into place and he straightens up. "Good. Then you know what Father is up to." he says. "We should add more fuel to the Crucible before we can talk. Come on." he gestures for us to follow, into the basement.

The smell of blood assaults my senses as we enter the basement. A huge cauldron sits in the center of the room, purple lines emenating from it. My magical sense lets me feel that energy is constantly being drawn from it. That explains the power of the shield earlier - he's created a well of power to draw from instantly, using the blood of his son (who seems to be normal) and other mortals. He cuts his palm and holds it over the cauldron, and the lines instantly brighten. Soon, he presses gauze to it, wrapping it tightly. Then he looks to us expectantly.

Not good - if we throw our blood in there, it might be charged enough to allow him to survive the attacks.

You feel anger from Archer, but he maintains his pokerface.
    >> Anonymous 05/01/12(Tue)17:20 No.18937875
    >>18937775
This means we have a direct magical line straight to the Chief. He draws magic from it to protect himself. Cut our hand, have Archer distract him for a few moments, infuse the cauldron with all of the bad luck we can, it ought to flow straight to the Chief, fake putting blood in and then bandage up our hand to make it look like we did so.

For Archer he can probably come up with a damn good lie for not putting his blood in, this kid isn't magical so he can probably string various magic related words together to bullshit himself out of it.

We could try draining the magical energy, that should leave the chief relatively defenseless.

We can "put" Archer's on. Get him to do it as its first induction or something, and we drove him to it. He can spin the story.

I still think we should shoot the kid and burn down the house.
    Just to make a point.
I mean.. that guy found is, it was probably his goon who tried to shoot us when we fleed and burned down our mansion and it's the Grail War anyway. What we know is that the Policeman-Master is perfectly willing to get his son and his fellow policemen involved.
We can't be blamed if something happens to them and if you think about it: There are far more people involved in this than we would like.

I say try to find out the names of the "Black Cats" that are involved, then kill the brat, destroy the device and burn the house. If the Police-Chief survives the assault our Allies prepared for him this should shake him up a bit. If not, also good, we eliminated people who knew about the HGW and we were involved and hey, if even the church and the Association says its okay to silence witnesses, why should we bother?

    [Something troubling you, Archer?]

[He's involving his family. Hurting them for his ambition.]

[Don't allow your emotions to get involved here.]

    [Right.]

    "Very well." I say.

"I can't." Archer says. "Blood thinners."

The boy gives him a stare as I smile, infusing bad luck into my blood as I open my palm. The cauldron lights up, and the lines brighten. Excellent. Working quickly, I seal the wound as Archer finishes his explanation. "And that's why I shouldn't give him any. Bad luck." he finishes. "Heck, it might have rubbed off on my partner here."

The boy looks a little worried, and my phone rings.
"Excuse me." I say, walking to the living room.

"Milady. The assault has begun." he says. "We can confirm the biker's Servant is Rider - Though he has yet to use any Noble Phantasms. Barriers have halted attack for the moment."

"I see." I respond. "Is there anything further to report?"

"Yes - the Servant has drawn a sword - it's wreathed in fire. He is striking at the barrier - He's through. He's approaching the Master. Ah. There's the Servant. This might take some time."

"Please call only when the target has been eliminated."

"Yes ma'am." he replies. There is swearing downstairs, and I rush down.

Archer is holding a knife away from the boy, who is clearly distressed - the room is dim, as are the magical lines.

"We should head back." I pull out my phone and dial another Agent to pick me up. Archer takes spirit form, and we begin to head back. It isn't long before I notice a group of bikers approaching behind us. "Agent, we're being pursued."

"Ma'am." he replies, and I feel myself pushed against the seat slightly as he picks up speed.

"Should have known..." I mutter, opening the sunroof. Archer stands through it, aiming his bow - but a gunshot resounds and he flinches. A tiny cut appears on his shoulder. Both of us stare at it briefly.

    Wait... what?!

Look, it's safe to assume that any Hero who is summoned as Caster managed to forget more about Magic in his Lifetime than the whole Mage's Association could ever learn about it.

They may be not the best servants because most other servants have Magic Resistance, but they sure know how to fuck up the Holy Grail War beyond Redemption.

He wasn't really famed as a rider though. If they DID force a Rider class summoning of him, then it's probably to our advantage, it's not a good match for him: he's usually a Saber class servant.

I'm pretty sure he got statted out for the Fate Apocrypha.

"Return fire, Archer. From inside the car?" I ask, having taken cover between the back of the front seat and the back seat. Thank god the car is bullet-proofed.
Odysseus manages to summon the bow after both windows in the back are rolled down and fires - One, two, three of the bikers taken out - but a chain whips out, knocking the fifth from the air.

More join in the chase from side roads.
"Shit! Where are they coming from!?"

And then Rider appears, riding his own bike. I remember him from the restaraunt, but now he's decked in actual armor, holding a flaming sword while another sits sheathed on his hip. He leads the pack, now, flaming blade held forth.

"A knight riding a motorcycle in full armor." I bluntly state.

While my agent pulls us into a hard, drifting turn, the gang follows, but only about two thirds make it.
"Please remain in cover, my lady." he says, completely calm.

Normally I don't go this far, but I'm not in a mood to fuck around. I had to kill a teenager today. It didn't leave me in a good mood. I let the Unluck drop through the car to the asphalt below as the arrows fly, slamming into the wheels of the goons - Rider's bike is struck last, and he hurtles from his seat while the gang erupts into fire. About half of them avoid the pileup.

Rider soars through the air, and he screams something to the air - I don't hear it, but a white horse appears beneath him, shining as he lands in the seat.

"My lady, I advise we head to the water and escape."

And then the knight draws his other sword, a shining white blade. He shouts and spurs the horse forth.

Meanwhile, the car shakes with the sound of exploding tires.

"Do not fear, we have all-wheel drive, my lady, and they only got the back."

    [Very well.]

Again, I pull more prana into my crest, muttering the activation keyword. I scatter it out, slamming it into the last three bikers as we approach the pier. I open the door slightly as the arrow sails down ahead of us, slicing through the mooring rope as the bikers slam into a street light, a fire hydrant, and a pig statue. As soon as we hit wood, I bail.

[Spirit form! Get on the boat and drive away!]

I roll onto the deck painfully as we turn and begin to tug away. Rider approaches the end of the pier. And then the horse leaps - landing on the deck as I scramble to safety and arrows rain around the knight. He hacks them out of the air while the boat finally gains speed and Archer stands between me and Rider.

    [But the vow-]

[We never agreed to one. We just commented how good it was he made the offer.]

    [... Heh. Very well!]

We're actually pretty far from shore. But it's not hard to turn around. As soon as I do, I hear a cry of shock. I look outside and see that the horse is gone, and the knight and Archer are fighting - Archer has drawn his blade and - there it is! he slips in close, fighting hard. But this isn't like Jack. Rider is stronger, and armored. His sword - not a Noble Phantasm in truth - skitters against the armor Rider wears as he cries out in betrayal.

    And then he just... vanishes.

Archer swears, loudly, throwing his blade into the deck in frustration.

Look, first off. Bikerguy was the one who backstabbed us first. We got him Police-Chief-Master and he probably wouldn't even be able to do Shit if we hadn't sabotaged his Shield-Device.
He sent his Bikers AND his Servant after us when we just wanted to go home and recuperate.

If he calls us out a backstabbing he must be either a retard or pretty ballsy gus in the first place. And even then we can just tell him that we wanted to get back at him, after HE attacked us unprovoked.

So what exactly are you looking for in information. Let's see, the Police Chief was in charge of Assassin, Jack the Ripper, he was a nasty blood mage and is now dead, but Jack could still be wandering around.

The Biker obviously has rider, two swords one was flaming the other was shining white, bitching horse, and can lead people. Something odd about the leading was that non-conceptual weapons used by his men were able to cause minor damage. Not sure exactly who it is as of yet though.

I don't think Faust matches with the physical description. Nice guess though. Our worst case scenario is that Caster is Stolas himself and the own is his familiar. Then his Noble Phantasm would be his twenty six legions of demons.

Berserker's Lovecraft, Lancer. Anyway, now that we've shared information, here is my proposal - we create a geas against any of the four of us harming another, until we are the only ones remaining. At that point, you and Archer will face each other in single combat to determine the victor of the Holy Grail War. Until then, we fight as a unit, and preferably live as a unit, as well. There is, after all, safety in numbers.

Fine. Now I would propose the Alliance to them.
But without the Geas Cu proposed. I somehow sense that this will bite is in the ass in near future.

Also use the time to get to know the kid better and press as much intel out of him as we can. Where he came from, what his family is like, who teached him about magic all that stuff that could be somehow relevant. On the other hand, we're asked something answer in a nonchalant way, but at the same time, don't lie to him, but don't answer truthfully either.

Also: We should get ourselves a gun again. Just in case.

Eliza, you're the one who is attracted to her, we're just helping you along.

What to talk about, this one is difficult, personal questions are kind of iffy given the whole situation we're in.

Start by unbuckling her. Talk about cooking, how she's liked Seattle so far, maybe ask about how she seems to like forests and that Seattle is known for having lovely forests.

I think calming talk about either her history or the other participants of the war would be best. Failing that... try seeing how she's adjusting to her new environment and inquire as to the means in which she is able to provide for David.

I guess you wouldn't know - your information is mostly parsed in text, if I remember correctly. I'm lanky. Thin. A lot of guys would flatter me by calling me 'slender', but I'm not. I'm skinny as hell. Pretty much flat. A lot of people say my face looks half-dead, emotionless and blank. My hair is kept short, straight, and it's platinum blonde. And I prefer suits and other masculine outfits.

I sigh as I unbuckle the skirt, and Atalanta, er, Lancer lets it fall - And I shut the door, finally realizing it's been open this whole time.

"So... Uhm." I shake my head and take another breath as she starts the bath water. "I've heard there's beautiful forests outside of the city. It's the evergreen state, after all. And... for someone unused to kitchens, you're a good cook."

"It's the basics." she says, "You just have to understand how meat cooks, things like that. Temperatures. It's instinct, not skill." she elaborates as she slips off those high boots. "And... That's good news. I might be able to move camp there. I fight much, much better in a natural location."

Aaand she's pulling down the zipper on the back of her top.
"A-a-anyway. Have things been harsh for you, so far? Any hard fights?"

"Not really. I prefer to watch and learn before I fight. But Saber scares me. You might not be able to sense it, but he's... strong."

"Strong how?" I ask, finally deciding to kick off my shoes and socks, then my pants. Gotta stay calm... "And how strong?"

"Have you ever shaken hands with someone who does a lot of manual labor? Noticed that strength just behind the skin? It's like that, except I can /feel/ it. It's... terrifying." And out they come as she pulls her top over her head, perky hand-

"Do you have any guesses as to who he is?"

"He's too boistrous to be an arturian knight or one of Charlemagne's men." she comments. :are you planning on bathing in your clothes?" she asks, finally stepping out of her underwear, turning off the water.

"Er." I manage, before she sighs and steps over.

"So bashful." she mutters, undoing my top, "You had to realize it was all coming off, right?"

    "Well, I..."

"Well, what?" she asks as she pushes my jacket from my shoulders, then my shirt. "Look, we're both girls here. You don't have to be embarrassed." she says, pushing down my panties at last, "Now, in!" she pushes me and I stumble, falling into the bath with a splash, sliding in beside me gracefully.

    Aaaaaaaaaugh, I can't think!

Enjoy the bath, try not to be too envious of her.

Perhaps this Saber's an Irish one, lots of those, fits with the blond hair which rules out a number of possibilities. Also his mana drain was much larger than everyone elses, the Einzberns probably grabbed a very legendary hero who they're pumping with prana. It's not going to be a pleasant fight when it comes down to it.

Hard to say. We may, but that's a long shot. More likely she'll be more wary of us if we figured out who she is without even seeing her noble phantasm.

And Eliza just calm down and enjoy the bath. If both you and Big O thinks it wise you may want to offer to help Lancer and the kid find a place that isn't so... abandoned. Ask what her hobbies are or if you want to be all business see which servant she thinks would be the best one to target next. You may want to try and convince her to help kill rider off first to get that debuff off of Archer's trump card.

"Don't worry. Archer is strong." I find myself saying. "Things will be okay. Anywa-heee!" She started washing my back, gentle fingers and a soft sponge. "A-anyway! I think we should move to my own base. It's more mobile and safe. And there's an island I still need to check out." After all, only Assassin and his master knew of it. I might be able to go back. "I'm worried about Saber, too, but more pressing is Rider. He's too fast."

"Fast? I can do fast." she says, pressing closer. Aigh, I can feel them. "What about Archer?"

"He can hold his own, for the most part. I think if we travel separately we'd have better chances. He'd have to split his forces, and he's already wasted at least one command spell."

    "Are you sure?"

"Not entirely. But... He just vanished on us. Mid-fight."

"Going spirit midfight can leave you vulnerable, unless you have a skill for it." she says, frowning. "Or a command spell was used."

"Backstabbing, conniving, wits, knowledge. Sharper than any sword, plunges deeper than any spear. All I can ask is that you keep David safe. My life is of little relevance - When I fail, if I fail, I will return from whence I came. That surety is a comfort, at least. So promise me, just please... whatever happens, don't hurt him. He doesn't deserve to be in all of this."

I'm sure she could at least say she wouldn't kill him and then break that later when it's convenient.

If his story is legit it isn't the first time a Master was chosen without even knowing what the fuck a servant even is. It happened with Shiro in Fate/Stay night and the serial killer in Fate/Zero. So long as you have a magic inheritance, even if you don't know how to use it, you can possibly become a master in the grail war. The servant you get will be the one that best suits your personality.

"Even the smallest amount of casting ability makes you eligable for masterhood. The boy wanted so badly for it, so much to have a family again, he probably..."

She looks aside, then turns and moves close.
"He probably forced the Grail to notice him, over all the other eligable contracts."

I back away a little, daunted by her closeness. "I... Uhm."

"It's almost three AM. We should finish up." she says quietly.
    "Yeah." I mumble.

You can use the magic Eliza can, with a smaller extent. Normally Familiars are made to scry and spy and do menial labour. Like turning pages of those fuckhuge tomes that mages like so much.

    >Are the others right and Rider bugged out too quickly to figure out Prince of Lies?

Since Eliza could have figured this out by Looking, I'll answer straight up.

    >Eliza's backstory

    Whoooo boy.

First of all, yeah, she's still got her v-card at her age. Whoopty doo.

She was raised as an heir to the Alexander family. The family does not follow Mage tradition, mainly in that it doesn't trust Big Ben at all. Further, they're a very young family, so while they are rich and powerful in mundane terms, they're weak as hellin the magic world. This left Eliza without many friends, and few chances for closeness with much of anyone. She descended into being an alcoholic shortly after she was told she'd be a part of the HGW. She doesn't know what she wants in life, or from the grail - why it chose her at all is a mystery to her.

She synchs up well with Archer because both of them were, or are, lost. They are both somewhat conniving and have an easy time lying, and both prefer to go the easy way, but are decently strong the hard way.
