    PREVIOUSLY, ON METAHUMAN RENAISSANCE:
Dan uncovered a vertaible treasure trove of Cyrean technology and equipment, some of which he used to improve himself, and he also acquired a suite of Cyrean armor which fit. After this, the crew managed to pull their riches out of the underground cache, load it up in the truck, and drive back to Liberty City with no problem, where they cashed it in for the Salvage, and made major moolah.

After all was said and done, and your bank became much happier, you've got a lot of stuff to think about over the next few weeks, and lots of stuff to do. Like work with Roxy to modify the hardware on your new command armor. And also make it so you can don the armor instantly at range, and not have to lug it around everywhere. The other two also have some stuff to do with their shares, though what Johnny has in mind, you have no idea.

But, with all that money, you decide first to spend in on improving your living a little. The dorms are decent, but you're not going to be in school forever. And also, given your new side-line as a Costumed Adventurer, you think it might be better to not involve the entire campus whenever someone who doesn't like you comes a knocking. So, you decide to get an apartment in the Campus area, but off it, maybe one of the nicer ones. Get some more space, maybe even make a small workshop area. But, now you have another dilemma. Even with all your cash, you're not going to be able to swing living on your own forever. So, you probably need to find some people to room with you. If only so you can split the burdens of expenses with someone, and both of you have less costs over-all.

    >Whoa! New Apartment for (up to) 3. Now who should I take?

Talk to Roxy, see if she wants to move in and also get a shared workshop in here because of all the projects we'll be doing.

Given that setting up a shared workshop would probably kill a lot of the room a third person would have it might be best just to have two.

If there'll still be space then call up the Evokers and see if any of them need a roomie, perhaps Jeanne or Anya would be interested.

Call up our mother, let her know of our find and see if she knows a good financial lawyer to help us invest a good portion of this money towards the future.

I thought she only had to modify the software. Wasn't that the whole point of taking the command over the others?

Given your intentions for the place, you decide to ask Roxy to split the rent with you. She jokes about being a little soon to ask her to move in with you, but agrees, especially when you mention plans to convert one of the rooms into a work-space. Then she kind of shanghais you into joining her "company" Murdock Industries, which is the name she uses to sell all the little stuff she makes, like the Mousing Robots, and some other gadgets of hers. She made some wonderful little flying camera drones that never really had any of the quality or range she wanted, so she works with a company to sell them as toys.

After that, you call up your mother, get some advice on a financial lawyer, and secure most of your money so you don't need to worry about ending up a hobo in 20 years when the cash runs out. Since its summer, you've got plenty of time to work, so you need to decide what you're going to do, and prioritize it.

(So, Dan has a couple of weeks of free time to spend doing things. Now you need to decide what those projects are, and in what order you're doing them (Mostly so I can do things in some kind of order). Enchanting or magic projects, what kind of work you want done with the armor, and improvements to the workshop. Also, Dan can spend some of his time doing Research on subjects, or getting out into the world and practicing his skills or superpowers.)

Hardware, software, whatever. It's all Science to me.

Though seriously, yes, actually, you bring up a good point that the reason the Command Armor was chosen was because all you needed to do for the armor was edit its software. You might still need some hardware on the other end, but that's a lot easier to manage, and depends on what kind of stuff you want plugged into the armor.

We just got a giant pile of new powers. We should find somewhere and practice the hell out of them. Mixing psychic programs together, trying Sniper/Psi Lance, Barricade Psi Ram, Stasis and Freeze, there are an awful lot to try out.

Work with Roxane on turning the Command armor into a fully coordinated Tac Center and then maybe we should enchant it, but I'm not sure with what.

We've got time now, lets enchant it with auto summoning. I like the idea of being able to pose and have our armor appear.

Make sure it's a method that works no matter where we are though, I'd hate for us to pose and realize the armor wasn't coming.

Okay, so here's the break down.

It's 3 WP if you want to summon the armor anywhere in the city. 5 WP if you want it anywhere in the world.

You can reduce the cost -1 WP if you give it a a special thing you do, like striking a pose or saying a phrase (If/Then).
You can reduce the cost another -1 WP if you tie it to a material item you have, like a coin, or a bracelet, or something, that you have to have on you to do it (Focus).

Some things we should do (in no particular order, I'm bad at prioritising):
Get that amulet or tag or whatever it was prepped as a container for necrotic energy for our necromancy.
Enchant our armour for magic resistance.
Test out our new toys. I mean, powers.
Start making preparations (and research) for going into SPAAAAACE. Well, or the japan trip, whatever omega wanted to do first. In any case, we'll take Roxy for both, please.

Also, we told anyone about our travelling plans yet? And for that matter, do we actually have concrete plans what to do in space/Japan?

No, they are nebulous plans at the moment, which will coalesce over the two weeks of chillin'. Research might be good.

Does 5 also let us summon it on if we bring it with us to space?

And I'd vote for tying it to a material item, a innocuous one, but tying it a pose or phrase does make it kind of obvious and I'd rather not have to announce that we're armoring up, it might give our enemies forewarning, which is bad.

However we should still strike a pose when we do it, to make people think we have to, if a silent, fast change is necessarily we can catch people off guard.

I'd personally tie it to a ring or something. We'll have to get used to wearing one, but hey, instant armour. Also, we've already got ourselves a strange and mystical language, how about we also tie it to the words "summon armour" or something (which wouldn't be used for evokations anyway) in that language.
Also, small question. If we tie it to something, does that mean it becomes impossible without that, or does it just mean it would cost +1 willpower if using without it. Probably the latter, but just wanted to be sure.

This is totally worth the WP investment guys. Gotta think of WP as a resource to be spent, and this is a magnificent way to spend it. 4 WP for the ability to always have armor but never be encumbered by it when it's not needed? Fuck yeah!

As for what to call this spell if we want something slightly less over-the-top than "henshin", there's an anime called Fairy Tail where one character (pic related) pretty much specializes in doing nothing but summoning various sets of armor, and calls the spell "Exquip", a portmanteau of 'exchange' and 'equip'.
    >> Anonymous 05/04/12(Fri)18:57 No.18979415
I really want to spend the full 5. Willpower is regain-able but the enchantment is permanent. Armoring up when we can't speak is a conceivable thing we could need to do. We could lose a focus and then we'd be fucked. We can do a silly pose/phrase anyway if you want to, I just don't want to need to.

Well, technically, it would reduce the effectiveness. The enchantment is cheaper because you're required to have the object and say a phrase/do a pose (In this case I think we're aiming for saying something, since posing takes longer), and it doesn't work without those. Hence why the cost is cheaper. Our friend is arguing to pay the full 5 WP so you can just snap your fingers or blink or wish really hard and summon the armor.

    >>18979494

Thanks for codifying that. I'll get on that update as soon as I'm sure nobody's going to change their minds about the Armor WP cost.

We have plenty of Willpower and this is a really long term investment. Pay the full 5 so we can't be screwed over my having our math gagged or the item stolen.

We should still have a catchphrase that we don't have to use, but do so just for coolness factor.

(WP Spent. Also I should really take some time to make the updates to the new expanded sheet Anon got me, because it's much prettier than my hackjob edit. Also skills were realphabetized.)

You spend some time and effort figuring out how to enchant your armor with a summoning spell, so you can call it to you on command. The actual process is complex, and you think it violates most of the laws of physics, but it works, and the range is pretty good. It even works while moving, as you tried it while slowly gliding down the stairwell on your new apartment building. Once you're done with that, Roxane can get to work on working on the software. After sitting with her and telling her what you know about Cyrean Tech and helping her decode some notes left in the programming for the Armor's OS, she says in about a week, she can probably reconfigure the armor to link with a human computer system wirelessly. From there, someone sitting at the computer (or with a remote access to it) can do live updates to your HUD with additional information, etc. Anything more than that, you'll probably have to handle on the network end, not with the armor.

You leave her too it, and spend some time working out a good place to work on your powers. Some of the stuff you can practice under the Parapsychology building, with the Evokers, but for some of it, you'll need more space. With some information gathering from Johnny, you find an old junkyard on the outskirts of town with lots of space you can pile stuff around as you like. The guy who owns the place is actually a low-tier metahuman, a weak psychometric who can innately understand objects and their function, and find breaks in them, which is how Johnny found him. You can practice as you like here.

    (Necromancy focus in next post)

For 1 WP, you can have it hold only killing or shock (Meaning it will only heal that type of damage, but you have to put IN that kind of damage)

For 3, it'll take either Shock or Killing, and heals both at once.

You decide to have a chat with Gespenst before you make your planned "Life Bottle", which, interestingly enough is a tiny Focus that looks like a little silver and glass bottle. Or maybe a tiny fuse with silver ends. Mostly, you do this so you don't accidentally create an object that eats souls, or something, but any advice helps. Possibly terrifying, Gespenst is actually proud of you for thinking of it, since it's a common move for Necromancers who don't want to dick around with needing live subjects to heal themselves or worry about needing healing in a pinch. He gives you some finer points on such a process (and +1 die).

(3x9 in your valid roll. The "Life Bottle" holds three shock and three killing damage. You can fill it any time yourself by doing shock and/or killing to the Torso, or the Head if you don't want to take damage to the torso. And I'm going to assume that by two weeks, Dan's figured out a way to fill it completely without hospitalizing himself, so don't worry about that right now).

(Also, totes should figure out what kind of training you want to do and how, while I update some character sheets.)

We should totes practice our parkour while using the flight module.

Also, can we fire the module in short bursts? Suddenly changing direction in the air would be insanely useful if we're under attack.

Consider flight checked out. I already mentioned Dan trying out the armor summoning while flying down some stairs.

I kind of figured you guys still wanted Dan to keep it low key and not go soaring through the city for everyone to see you (Since flying, like everything else Cyrean, is really Obvious).

I did some math and we can say Dan has a cruising fly speed of 50 mph.

Top speed is probably higher than that, since he has that experimental long-range overland version, but I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble of specifying it.

I will say he can move, like, 25 yard in a single burst of speed in a Combat Round (which is the usual 6 seconds, I believe) so there's that for you. And yes, I'm sure that doesn't add up to 50 mph. I'm multiplying certain numbers at different stages looking for coolest and yet well balanced results.

Set up in your junkyard you decide to experiment a little with your cool new powers.

Stasis is pretty neat, though a bit weird to use. It operates like a Psibolt projectile, though the color is a little darker. When it hits a target, it wraps it in a plastic-wrap looking barrier. Johnny actually volunteers to get "wrapped" and declares it to be a strange, uncomfortable experience. The more power you put into it, the stronger a hold it has.

Barricade program is neat, too. It forms an Option-style Wisp ball, but instead of shooting, it projects a torso sized shield on a face. You can configure it for both passive and active defense, either to just sit and over with a shield up, or to attempt to actively block an attack from a direction.

Sniper is probably one of the coolest, but also least interesting. It forms a glowing blue Octahedron that is clearly a reference to something. It shares all the normal functions of option, Concentrated Fire, Active Response and Overwatch, but instead of firing Psibolts, it unleashes your new Psi Lance attacks.

Speaking of which, the Psi Lance is very neat. You don't throw them like Psibolts, but instead simply hold out your arm and fire a lance of energy. The range is remarkable, and it is much more powerful than the bolts, with better penetration. The junk yard actual has an old armor truck which is trashed, and you actually are able to easily penetrate one side of it, though it takes a lot of effort on your part to punch through it end-to-end.

After that, you move onto the new modules you have.

Well there's 600 combat rounds in an hour.
    25 yards/round = 8.5mph
    50mph = 145 yards/combat round
It makes sense that if for example we were on the ground and wanted to fly over somebody to get behind them we wouldn't be able to go anywhere near as far as if we were cruising because we need to take off, accelerate, decelerate and land. It doesn't make sense that if we were cruising at 50mph and a hostile entered the airspace we'd instantly slow down to 8.5mph and not be able to go any faster. Let me guess, "it's magic, I ain't got to explain shit"?

The Psi Ram is a bit different. For one, you fire what is essentially a big, blue, battering ram made of pure force from your hand. The power is adjustable, so you can go for longer range, but affect less mass, or shorter range, and affect more mass. But depending on the strike, you can send things flying 12-15 feet with stunning regularity.

The Psi Burn is pretty much what it says on the tin. It's like a Psibolt, only on fire. It tends to light the things you hit on fire also, so you're lucky junkyards carry Fire Extinguishers standard. Like most stuff Cyrean, it is blue and white, but otherwise reminds you a lot of the Incinerate power from Mass Effect.

Psi Shock, however, is a complete paradigm shift for you. It's a touch power, limited to what you can contact with your hand. You can adjust it to be lethal or non-lethal at your whim, and its highly conductive when you touch something with it, but if you want to use it, you'll have to change up your usual ranged fighting style a bit. It does make a great alternative to a stun gun, however.

Psi Freeze moves back to a projectile, firing a slightly slower, icy blue sphere of... something. Physics is probably being violated again. Suffice it to say, it draws the internal energy from the area around it, and moves it somewhere, creating a freezing effect. You can aim purely to cause a debilitating freeze, jamming up something mechanical, for instance, or causing a person to have to act slower, or you can dip the temperature down real low to cause harm.

The Psi heal is relatively simple. Turn it on, pinkish-white light envelops your hands, and you heal stuff you touch.

Now to get creative and start mixing powers. I'll leave that up to the rest of the thread to decide what powers they want to mix, but beyond that, I'll leave the experimentation up to Dan's discretion.

    Psychic, but yeah.

Honestly, in my mind, the Cyrean flight power was not meant for like, aerial combat speeds. They have fighters for that. The idea is that their Shocktroops can just ignore terrain and levels and stuff to get around. It's more like a levitation than flight, in some senses. Or maybe like a jetpack.

Dan has a decent cruising velocity for over-land travel, at long range, but it would be ridiculous the amount of distance he could move (from a dead stop, since WT doesn't account for acceleration) in just six seconds otherwise. You see where I'm coming from?

    Yeah, the
    >doesn't account for acceleration
is the main problem, and that's true in most systems. It's fine on foot but get weird when dealing with the actually significant speeds and accelerations of 50mph flight (instantly reverse direction? Sure! And with no g-force!). Nothing really you can do about it except sit there with a calculator and an aerodynamics text book every time we take off.

Oh, right, I forgot to actually describe Flight. (Because I have always known this is how Cyrean flight worked)

No, see, you already have those giant "planes of force" wings for Flight. Hence one of the reasons why its really fricking obvious. Giant glowing blue wings. Dr. M's wings were actually similar, but simpler in design, and red colored. She made them by reverse-engineering Cyrean tech.

These are cool ideas, and all, guys, but remember, the component to programs is Duration. The program creates a construct which is self-sustaining, and operates as long as you will it (Hence the "Program" and the investing dice technique). It is not a catch-all to fuse powers (because that would very quickly get out of hand).

    >And Burn and Wisp to create either Will-o-Wisps, Or Delayed Fireball

Basic welding equipment, if it's something really big we'll use different facilities though, soldering stuff for electronics, a computer system for all the electronic stuff, storage shelves for different parts and gizmos.

We might also want a lathe and the other stuff for basic fabricating of custom parts, we'll use other facilities or order out for really custom and precise stuff.

A mini fridge, some comfy chairs, at least a few of them with rolling wheels.

And anything else Roxy points out that she'll want that we missed.

The stuff for futzing with Alien components is going to be weird but we'll see what we can find.

Maybe we could have a magic circle engraved in the floor. It would save us drawing one every time we wanted to do a ritual. And we probably want the room warded somehow in case we fuck up. And reinforced in case Roxy fucks up.

Flying practice is hard to get, at first. You do small stuff, flying up stairs instead of walking, low level flying, some extremely low altitude and slow flying in the junk yard, but all it does it let you get the basics of flying down. If you want to do some real training at it, you need a place where you can really let lose. Luckily, the weekend after you obtain the powers, Johnny gets you out to his uncle's place, a large section of farmland in-state a little, acres of land with nobody around to be bothered by some dude flying.

And so you fly. You push the limits of the speeds, figuring out top speeds, practicing tricks. One think you learn quick is if you want to fly high or at speed, you need your armor on, to protect yourself from the wind and cold. You're fast, and agile when you want to, and with a little practice, you can be pretty accurate with your powers while airborne, especially with your lance, which is extremely long-ranged and accurate for psychic powers.

    (Coordination has increased!)

Make sure our falling shoes are on tightly and then push it to the limit.

We don't really have to worry about falling to our death, the worst that could happen is having to walk a couple miles hack to the house.

Practice using Air Evocation while using the flight module, not for sustained portions but to give us a quick boost in speed or maneuverability.

I don't really care about the cost of any of that stuff, so that's all cool. I'll just knock off the other two WP for magical stuff. Dan and Roxy now have a functioning magi-lab. It works good for small or basic stuff, but if you want to do something big, or specialized, you'll need to go elsewhere, like the Campus facilities.

(And we have a winner. Enjoy your imaginary internet accolades. I sure do.)

So, you can fly. And you can fly pretty high, and pretty fast. And you're doing so inside a suit of combat armor which is rated for vacuum exposure, and your flight system is technically powered by your brain.

There is only one thing to do.

    Fly to fucking SPACE.

You orient yourself straight up, and begin accelerating. Focusing differently, you are able to use the long-range flight mode, your acceleration rate dropping, but you gain more total speed, though your maneuverability is reduced. You just keep flying, higher and higher. It takes an inordinate amount of time, and you wish you'd put Angry Birds or Tetris or something on this thing.

After about 15 minutes of pure acceleration, Roxane comes over the wireless to your helmet, something you figured out after the first day. "Dan, where are you going?" She asks, kind of matter of factly. "Space." You reply in kind. "Oh," she says. "Well, tell me when you get there." You keep going.

While the armor doesn't have a speedometer, you reckon you're going about double your normal rate. Not being able to figure where exactly space is, you decide to to stop flying when it looks like you're in space. And when you can see the curvature of the Earth, plain as day, you're pretty sure your in space.

    And space is beautiful.

Actually that's not a terrible idea. I'll work on something late tonight when I've got the time and throw it up either on this thread or the next one.

    Much appreciated.

Though, in my defense, your expanded version didn't have all the latest module powers added, so in a way, it kind of started nearly full up when expanded.

But in retrospect, giving /tg/ the ability to mix and match powers was probably not the best idea if I wanted to save space.

Yes it is. We may be out of atmosphere but we're still in the gravity well. That photo was taken from Apollo 11's orbit. Orbits are falling with style.

    >Yes, so we're falling sideways around the Earth.
We just went straight up. A low earth orbit needs ~17500mph of horizontal speed in order to miss the ground when you fall. We are not orbiting. Given that we have infinite fuel we could potentially put ourselves in an orbit unless these magic wings somehow have a max speed in space (wouldn't put it past them), but it'd take a while.
    >We're probably fine.
Well yes, given that the slow-fall laces are so slow-fall that we could actually die of thirst before hitting the ground, I wouldn't say the falling was a problem. We can turn the laces off, right?

    >>18986676
I just found it funny that people were going "push the flight to the limit we have the laces so nothing could go wrong" and then we still manage to push it so far that something could go horribly wrong. Assuming the wings aren't going to suddenly stop working on us, yes we can just fly back down and it will take less time than flying up took.
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 05/05/12(Sat)16:24 No.18989808
    >>18983051

Well, I intended "stop flying" as "stop going up". Dan can maintain altitude easy, so not a problem.

    >>18986741
    >>18986664
    >>18986676

I'm not sure you actually did make provisions to turn the laces off, but you don't need to worry about the glide speed killing you. It's supposed to work kind of like the Icarus upgrade in DXHR. For one thing, its an Air spell, so there needs to be enough air for it to work, second, three words; psychic energy wings.

Just don't free fall from orbit. You didn't pick the heavy armor, so you're not in the Cyrean style of suit for people to jump out of things and land safely on the other end in.

But what if something suddenly knocks unconscious? Then we don't have a choice!
Actually would proper space wars being fought mean there's more debris up there or would economic space travel being available mean they could actually clean the shit up?
    >> Omega !Q7t.srvWZ6 05/05/12(Sat)18:06 No.18991015
    >>18990568

Well, there wasn't really a proper space war seeing as humanity is still limited to space planes at best, but since the new GC government did help with Earth's reconstruction, they did probably did clean up any debris.

As for the passing out, good point, Try not to do that when you go down.
