    The year is 2025.
Your name is Dave, and you never asked for this.
Once a generic white-collar worker who lived alone save for your cat, you were hit by a car and spent three months in a coma.
You awoke to find that your unconscious body had been taken in by the corporation 'Emulsified Electronics', and implanted with an experimental augmentation. You soon found that it allowed you to control electronic devices with your mind. And if Jun's theory is right, your power is only going to grow...
At almost the same time, it came to light that the company called Cadmium Dynamics had hired a PMC, ArmaTek, and started to mobilize against EE. However, you and your companions have been almost too much for them, defeating them at nearly every turn.
Just after you thought you had a breath of fresh air, a new, mysterious corp showed up, mostly utilizing some kind of stealth technology.
    >You have 14450 credits.

    >Abel Rowling: Your coworker\drinking-buddy. Used to be your roommate years ago before you got him a job at the place you worked. He's currently hiding out in a safehouse, and apparently was trained to be an Agent.
    >Jun Viridian: The 38 year old neuroscientist who implanted you with the prototype, and from what you can tell, was the one who designed it. With your help, she has her son again.
    >John Grayson: A security specialist and agent who works for EE. He has implanted forearms and broad shoulders. He used to be military, and you currently owe him a favor.
    >Verne Tolstoy: A quiet, overweight man who used to be a cop. Most of his internal organs are all augmented versions, and he has an augmented arm; Ever since a mishap with an EMP, he's been unable to do any kind of mercenary work.
    >Amy Tolstoy: A teenage mercenary girl with neon hair, augmented legs, and a wrist computer full to the brim with random AI constructs. She has all sorts of strange friends. Now works for EE as a researcher, technician, and agent. Is somewhat keen on Dave, but he's just starting to realize that.
    >Azure, Onyx, and Cyan: Your bullfrog's three onboard AIs; Cyan specializes in networking, Onyx specializes in combat, and Azure bridges the gap between them. After an intense cyberwarfare session between Azure and an enemy AI, Azure had changed.
    >Mark: The mechanic who works for EE in B-4, building and maintaining the gear of all Agents. He's a capable pilot and has saved your skin multiple times.
    >Goggles: A strange person who you found in CD's computer core, wearing a skintight suit and hat, their only notable feature being strange blue goggles. Apparently they're an agent of the new company in town.

"Wait, another person like Dave?" Amy asked, raising her eyebrows. "Should we, I don't know, bolster our computer security to keep them from getting in?"
"I'm. . not sure how we should deal with this. Whatever it is, it's not as miniaturized or portable as the Bullfrog." Jun said, examining the chair. Then she glanced at you. "Dave? Do you have any thoughts? You're the one with the most experience with this, after all."

"Well, they didn't try to hack anything. Maybe they can only use it to have greater control over electronics? One man controlling hundreds of recon droids is not a small task after all."

"But if it is like Bullfrog, then I do not know how we can protect ourself from being hacked. As long as an electronic device had some kind of signature, I could always hack it."

Looking at this I doubt it's going to operate quite like the Bullfrog. One of the main weird things going on with me is that I'm shunting piles of my brain's processing to my implant.

While there does seem to be a guy with a similar implant who plugs into this, a lot of the computing power might be there in the chair and bouncing up and down with computer power when you start giving it more duties, might be bad.

That and if he was quite like me why would he even bother plugging it in.

It's a similar project but I doubt it's getting the same results. I'm guessing it is letting the person multitask really well, he was controlling independently hundreds of recon droids, and probably collating the information at the same time. I couldn't do that, I can deal with 6 sources of vision, each of my eyes, the drones and the drites but that many would confuse the hell out of me.

"All those needles going up the spine... that'd be a pretty intensive augment? Right? I can't imagine having a bunch of holes in the back is a common thing."

Also, we should see if we can synchronize with the chair. If it works the same way the bullfrog does, maybe we can backtrack it's signal or whatever and activate the chair without being plugged into it. Maybe it'll boost the range of our own abilities
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 05/08/12(Tue)15:08 No.19025917
"Well, they didn't try to hack anything." You say. "Maybe they just have some greater control over electronics? There were dozens of those drones, and controlling that many isn't a small feat, after all. It's a similar project, but I doubt it's getting the same results." You say, shrugging. "One of the main weird things with me is that I'm shunting piles of my brain's processing to the implant."

"And with a chair, that kind of situation can't develop." Jun said. "Which means that. . I doubt they can hack remotely the way you can."

"I might try synchronizing with it." You say, eying the chair.

"But you don't have the required augments for those needles to connect to." Amy said, examining the needles. "It seems like they'd need sockets covering their entire backs."

    "Hmm. . "
With a shrug, Jun started yanking the cables out of your Bullfrog. "You have around eight retractable cables here, and the chair here has seven needles. It might be a bit strange, but we should be able to connect a cable to each needle and see what that does."

"IDW seems like an acronym, but what for? The device itself?"
"It's obviously designed to control those invisible drones." Amy said. "It has a counter for three different types of drones. At a random guess, I'd call them 'recon', 'small arms', and 'heavy arms'."
"And those recon what were on our scopes." Grayson added, having just arrived from the elevator. "You did say that they had no weapons, after all."
<Could any three of you gain something from the brief connection?> You ask.
<Negative.> Azure said. <It was completely unfamiliar to me.>

That makes sense, it's meant to control a fleet of drones, it wouldn't be much use if it couldn't operate over long distances, preferably a distance long enough that it use them to coordinate an assault without being in the danger area itself. Hell they probably try to have enough range that it can just punch through standard jamming, that or it uses individual bots to try and proxy it through.

"What do you think of the cloaking technology they had on the drones?" You ask.
"Well, when I took a look at it, it was really similar to the power shield technology." Amy said. "Just a lot weaker and a lot more. . focused to a specific wavelength." She added, then shrugged. "I'll start working on replicating it; we have enough power shields for now."

"Oh boy oh boy oh boy." You repeat as you and Mark take the elevator down to B-4.
"So, there's basically three different . . well, types of suits we've developed." Mark says on the descent.
"There's a light power suit, which is kind of a misnomer; if anything, it's more like a bodysuit with strength augmentation. Low armor, but it's light and powerful."
"Then there's a heavy, which is all about armor and strength. It's heavy and bulky, and low chance for customization. But it'd take an entire javelin blast before the outer plating gets torn off. Once Amy is done with the jetpacks, you'll get one with the heavy set."
"Finally, there's the Medium. It comes with a spare power core, and with that comes a bunch of extra customization you can do, from shielding to, I dunno, cloaking I suppose."

    The Medium, versatility is awesome.

See if we can get it more modular over time so we can add armor plating to get it closer to a heavy if need be, make it lighter and quieter if we're going stealth. Not ever going to be as good at the light or heavy at it's specializations but we can swap around what we need to do.

And a number of different drites, some really heavy armored ones with weaponry that should be on vehicles and maybe power claws, medium weight versatile ones and light ones for more precise quiet operations, great for cutting open throats in a blink of an eye.
    >> Exabyte !SIL6URyblU 05/08/12(Tue)15:54 No.19026383
"The light and medium sound interesting." You say. "What else can you tell me about them?"

"Well, the light was designed to have all the awesome strength bonus of a standard powersuit, but in lightweight form. I achieved it by pretty much tearing out everything that looked like armor. The Medium is a bit more. . not-suicidal. The medium is essentially the standard powersuit that CD came up with, but I built in more infrastructure for upgrades and customization. It's fairly modular, though, so you can add and remove armor plating. It's nowhere near as thick as the heavy, though, even when you have plating from head to toe."

Yup, as I said medium is awesome. We'll never beat either at their specialty but there are many times when going too far in either extreme is detrimental and balanced is best, also we can modify it quite a lot more, swap out power shielding for a cloak or a signal booster for our hacking.

Ask about drite options to attach to our new armor.

Drites are versatile as all hell, they have reach, more strength than all but the most dangerous arm implants, they can carry weapons, perform delicate operations, they're flexible as all hell. The only reason they're not used more often is that most people can't use them well and the procedure for implant one is hellish, we don't need to implant them and they're easy to use.

Azure is a She because a bit ago she got into a dominance battle with CD's security AI, who the men there considered a she, and with some help from us won. Some non dangerous personality tags carried through.

"Oh god, they're multiplying! There's probably an entire corp of the goggled fucks." You cry, and then the elevator dings to a stop.
"Well, I'd better go get my powersuit." You say, shrugging.
Amy waves you off. "Come by my lab when you get back from Mark's grubby paws." She says. "And I'll install the power shielding. Well, maybe two sets of power shielding; I want to use you to test the weaponized version."

You enter Mark's workshop, and find him with a single, massive set of claws on one arm. They hiss and open slowly, before clanging shut again. He turns to you. "Behold! The power claw!" He cries, and then chuckles and sets it down. "Your suit's over here." He says, pointing you to it. "The helmet has no visor because it's a structural weakness; instead I built cameras into the outside." He says, and you look it over. The entire thing is thinner and lighter than the last power suit you wore, and built more to your build. Instead of a single power core in the lower back, the suit has two. If anything, it looks less like a powersuit, more like a set of armor, complete with rigid, almost medieval plates over the outside.
"So, Dave, you gonna try it on?" He asks.
"YES." You say in all caps, and then you try it on. It's comfortable, much more so than the last one you tried, and more agile. The sockets are perfectly fitted for your mechandrites, so you can use both at once, and there are two strange hitches near your shoulders.
"What are these?" You ask, poking one of the hitches.
"Well, you use those drones, right? I figured you could keep them there when you're not using them. Or you could just attach small turrets there, and tie those to your AI."

"Yeah, that's exactly how the larger cores work." She says, looking back down to the wrist computer. "Except most of them also contain massive power cells to store the energy it gains, and when the power cells run full, the core itself slows down. And in emergency situations, they pump in something with the consistency of glue to force the core into stopping. The smaller cores don't have anything like that, though."

"Well, the more energy there is, the harder it tends to be to control. Fuses get blown, cables burn out, electrical death and destruction goes everywhere. That's why smaller cores don't need safety mechanisms; there's no worry of them exploding unless they're hacked."
Then she shrugs. "You know the time we blew CD's power core? That's what happens if there's too much energy. Big is not the best, regardless of what you might think."

"Well, what if we attach it to the most massive javelin we could make?"

    ---

You thrust your palm outward, and the red shockwave throws Amy away, She flips in the air, landing on her wheeled heels and skidding away, before she throws yet another sphere at you. You dive out of the way, but it hits the ground behind you, blasting you away with concussive force.

You push yourself off of the ground. Grayson's in the training room alongside you two, but he's not focusing on you- he's focusing on the target at the other side of the room, holding his souped up gauss rifle.

He pulls the trigger, and the rifle blasts itself back, steam hissing from one of the rifle's dangling pipes. You notice a light on his forearm's augments flash as he does so.

"Hey, Grayson." Amy calls out. "I forgot to ask; what exactly does your augments do?"

He looks over to her, shrugs, and fires at the target again. "Recoil. Helps me deal with truly preposterous amounts of recoil this rifle puts out."

"Fus. . " You whisper. "Ro dah!"

    Amy's wheels are still extended.

She gets knocked away, careening down the training room.

"Hey!" She calls, skidding around to look at you while she wheels away. She throws a red orb of her own, and you dive out of the way, using your mechandrites to throw yourself away.. and into Grayson, who grabs you by the torso and throws you to the ground.

Your power armor is keeping you intact, but you can tell that that was a truly devastating move.

He chuckles, and pulls you to your feet. "That helmet is unnerving." He says. "It'll probably be terrifying to whoever we fight next- a faceless, unstoppable superhacker with mechandrites and a power suit?"

Something bounces off of the back of your helmet Amy's standing there, glaring at you. "Jerk."

    Nuh-uh

We can install plasma gun in the new drites if you want it like that and I don't think the stealth module is compatible with the power-shield.

Alright Amy, take it easy. Don't be a stranger ok. You have my number ;)

Plasma guns are exorbitantly expensive and the stealth tech hasn't been reverse-engineered yet. You could probably get tracking plasma if you paid through the nose for it, but 'drites are expensive too and you'll already have to pay through the nose for that.

Can't we just chalk it up to "agent expenses" and have the company pay for it.
These fuckers just don't pay us enough it seems.

EE paid you 10k over the one week timeskip. I'd say that's quite a bit, seeing as credits are roughly analogous to USD

Well, seeing how we killed quadrillion of souped up enemies, saved the board of directors and destroyed the main base of over-powered hostile company during our lunchbreak, I'd say we're practically working for free.

    But I digress.

Also, it seems I'll be busy tomorrow at noon, so tomorrow I'm going to break my streak of one thread per day.

Here's the inventory screen; it's not very fancy, but it's all CRT-y and stuff.

    It's perfect!

Though if you can make it a little big bigger, it would be even better.

Wait, we can have exotic, modified gauss rifles?
Also, you forgot Plasma Javelin. How could you?

    That's what Grayson has.
And the Javelin is under: Anti-Material Plasma Sniper Rifle ("Javelin")

I guess I'm blind. I literally read that thing again to make sure I wont be making false statements and somehow missed it.

What kind of stats does Grayson's Gauss have?

I don't have actual stats for anybody else's inventory, but it's safe to say that his gauss rifle is obscenely overpowered.
