Spider Quest time!

Sup/tg/ contains the earlier threads under the spider quest tag.

1d4chan page on this quest:
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Spider_Quest

You are a little female jumping spider named Bibi currently living inside a hole in a tree, with your mate Dorpou, your eight young siblings, your newborn brood of spiderlings and your pet centipede Isaac.
In addition to your family, the hole also is a home for old spider named Ranou, who agreed to let you stay there, a honorable warrior ladybug named Andor and a light headed parasitic wasp you befriended and named Chyrsi "Bubbles" McTitty. You also managed to convince the massive ancestor worshiping dragonfly you captured to work for you, who you then named Kahless Nidhogg.

In the last session, you continued your investigation of the bee hive, which had faced some sort of a disaster. After making contact with a small band of survivors, it became apparent that the nectar you had supplied to the bees had caused this catastrophe.
You decided to aid the small band of rebels who were fighting against the overseers and their loyalist guards. The group was led by a bee named 313, and they were trying to locate your old contact to the hive, 321, as she knew more about the situation than the rest.

After successfully saving her in a daring raid of the refinery chambers, you made a plan in which you hoped to end this madness before it got too late. You used the honey distribution tubes to infiltrate the royal chambers and with the aid of a guard that had turned to your side, you managed to get in. You confronted the overseer B12, the mastermind behind this whole scheme, just when the rebels troops and the loyalist guards began to fight. The overseer fled, and you pursued her, until you reached the main entrance to the hive. There were others as well looking for the overseer...

>How this works.
Suggest an action and then depending how feasible it is, the spider will act.

You are just an ordinary spider in moder day earth. You have no special powers, other than your intellect.

Making silk costs proteins, which you can restore by eating. Your mate has his own protein reserves. You both have currently 100% if your reserves.

You can upgrade your nest with silk.Your nest currently has the following improvements:
>Small rudimentary web nest:
>Storage chamber
-35 units of food, 0 chitin plates, 3 metal shards, 1 chitin armor, 2 unfinished chitin armors, 15 sheets of both green and yellow membranes.
>8 slingshots.
>Trap webs near the base of the tree.
>Expanded Aphid pen.
-5 aphids. Can hold up to 10 aphids.
>Warning web at the entrance to the tree hole and warning lines.
>Drop down net attached to the ceiling at the entrance.
>Reinforced sticky webs at the entrance.

There is also a bird's nest which contains all kinds of stuff.

Your current skills:
>Efficient web architecture.
-The protein cost of your silk structures is reduced by 5 units. Structures costing 5 units will still cost 1 unit.

You also need to feed your family.
Your siblings, brood and Isaac combined require 15 units of food per day. They are fed for this day however. You and Dorpou require 4 units of food combined.

This is where we left.
You and 321 are currently hiding, while the overseer B12 squirms in terror in front of the wasps.

Watch to see what happens
>>
> ..the nectar you had supplied to the bees had caused this catastrophe.

OBJECTION!

The cause of all this is currently running away from us smack into some plot justice or something.

Not that this is going to make our job any easier ...

"Really, tell me! How on earth did you manage to ruin your home like this?
We expected resistance. We expected guards. What we got were few scattered and broken wretches that were easily disposed. We could take over this whole hive if we wished, but it looks like that there is nothing to take over.
It seems that your brilliant plan backfired on you, or was destroying the whole hierarchy of your hive also part of it?

"..what plan..!?"

"You know what I am talking about overseer. I do not recall that our emissary, who mysteriously "disappeared" agreed on our deal that you would supply us with some sort of poisoned honey. What ever you put in our shipment brought insanity to far too many of my sisters. You will tel me what it was, and how to cure it, and I will make your end painless."

"...I..I don't know!"

"Yes you do. You wouldn't be stupid enough to risk poisoning your own people without the knowledge how to cure it's effects. Now tell me or you will suffer."

"..but ..but ..th..the.. spid-"

"Mistress! We have rounded up and eliminated all the remaining guards outside!" yells a wasp from the door.

The overseer uses this distraction to bolt the fuck away from the wasps.

"Capture the coward at once!" Yells the wasp commander and two of her sisters start to pursue the overseer.

Wat do?
>>
>>19160713
Continue to watch, wasps are nails after all.
Abandon hive and come back later?
Or try and find a solution?
>>
Yah, I'm thinking ...

You know we could just set things back up the way they were at start, bees supply the wasps, things go back to normal.

The only group of organized wasps are now here. We could tell them that there is no cure but time.

Or we could jump them, I'm not impressed by 3 wasps but there's more outside.

In any event let's see if we can corner the Overseer, maybe end the civil war. The bees need a united front now most of all.

Otherwise retreat back to the Queen's area and see what condition they're in.
>>
>>19160751

That's what I was afraid of.

We can't abandon the hive, eventually the bees will just point and yell "SPIDER DID IT!" and then we'll have to deal directly with the wasps.

What do we do then? Ally with the ants?

Let's just roll along with it here and now.
>>
And I'm still trying to figure out where that damn kite fits into all of this. Aside from being a bubbly distraction and keeping engineering department occupied ... hm.

What do we know of the social wasps? How vain are they?

I assume that you continue to monitor the wasps.

"Sweep the area! I want every bee in this cursed hive in front of me. They will pay with their blood for this treachery. Half of our hive is in ruins because of the honey they gave us.
Shelq! Come here!"

You see the wasp who caused the distraction that allowed the overseer to fly away walk fearfully towards the wasp commander. Her antennae seem to be torn.

"You failed me again! You distracted me and thus allowed the bee to escape! First you return from the scene of battle alive, in where your sisters fell defending our loot, and now this! I need to punish you again!"

"No mistress no! I didn't meant to!"

The big wasp starts beating up the smaller one.

Continue to watch?
>>
>>19160862
Ahh, so there's that wasp.
Intervene and potentially gain an ally? We could likely take the wasp commander here and now. A valuable hostage perhaps for the bees?
>>
>>19160884

You don't know the exact amount of wasps that are nearby. Revealing yourself might be risky.
>>
We can't do a frontal assault.

Whisper to 313: "we need to organize a defense. I don't know if it's a good idea to for your people to confront the wasps now but you must get organized, like, now. Plus the overseer will be up to some mischief I'm sure. Get back there and make it happen and make sure it's you in charge not the overseer!"

Let's keep an eye on things here. Maybe that wasp boss will do something stupid like walk under us.
>>
>>19160899
I suppose that is true.
Do we have any means of getting in contact with everyone's favourite dragonfly?
How many bee guards do we think were outside? And how many wasps would be needed to subdue that many given the circumstances?
>>
Attack the head wasp, maybe we can make an ally out of the wasp being punished
>>
>>19160946

I think we sent him back for help. We'll have to sit tight if that's what we're waiting for.

We don't really have an army of our own at the moment.

We need to get our hands on either the punching bag or the the wasp boss. Either way the solution is colourfull bows.

Well, maybe not but it's a start of a plan.
>>
>start of a plan ..

Plan. Plan?

Wait. THAT'S IT!

The wasps need a cure. We have a cure, there's these bow things they need to wear ... we even have a demo model to show off ...
>>

The wasps begin to sweep the area.

You tell 321 to get quickly back to her people in order to warn them of the coming threat.

"Commander Xias! We found another one of these broken bees!"
"Kill it! Just like we did back at the nest. These wretches will only be useful as food for our younger sisters!"
>>
Not suggesting this at the moment but throwing it out there for our consideration guys.

Jump Xias. We need to engage in some face to face diplomacy while we have the chance. We're gonna give the wasps the cure they seek in the form of anti poison ward bows. We can show them the it works by having Bubbles demo it by sipping some, now harmless, bee nectar. "See? Works like a charm. Ahem."

Plus we may be able to rig a deal to get our hands on the punching bag.

Well?
>>
>>19161137

This will also buy some time for the bees to get their shit together, just saying.
>>
>>19161137
I agree with this
>>
But what will you do now?

Currently, there are at least 9 wasps within your sights, and when you count the two who went after the overseer, there are 11 wasps here.
Will you try to monitor them further or will you do something else?
>>
I guess we could wait a moment longer, maybe some of the wasps will leave the scene and we can attack Xias
>>
In absence of any other suggestions I say we go for it! We've got a change to:

a) End a nasty meaningless war.
b) Save the punching bag.
c) Save our own as .. er .. thorax since the subject of the "poison" nectar is going to come up sometime, we're in the line of fire now like it or not.
>>
>>19161206
This I suppose?

>mfw this is still going and I haven't seen it since february.
Time to catch up!
>>
Well, we can take on some risk now or dither along and face some pissed off vengeful wasps later.

Do we really want to leave our fate to, who? The bees? Let's seize events by the throat now!

While you ponder what to do, the two wasps sent to retrieve the overseer return.
She is beaten up and her wings are torn.

"I am a busy wasp you know. I don't have time for this kind of games", says Xias as she lifts the overseer to air.

"You will tel me, how to cure my sisters, or I will sting you to death myself. What ever you attempted to do with that tainted honey only served to ruin this nice and fair deal we had going on here. It seems now that we need to return to blundering your children again, instead of simply the honey tributes. You brought this to yourself. Now tell me the cure!"

"..there..there is no cure...zzz"

"What! There must be one! You lie!"

"I don't know it..."

"Then who does you useless wretch!"

"...the spider does..."

"....What in the world are you talking about? What spider?"

"..She is here...zzz...somewhere....they were right after me....."

"How hard did you beat this pathetic runt! She is useless if her mind is broken!"

"...they were...right behind...me..." The overseer begins to fade as the wasp strangles her.

Wat do?
>>
I'm sticking with the jump her and negotiate a bow based solution on a silver platter plan.
>>
>>19161420
Well that's our cue.
DRAMATIC ENTRY TIME
>>
>>19161457

Could you elaborate this bow based plan?
Do you intend to trick the wasps?
That would of course assume that the wasps were foolish enough to fall for it though.
>>
We could always just tell then that it will wear off after a while.
Possibly point out that the ants might find knowledge about the current crippling of the wasps interesting and that we gave runners ready to inform them if we do not return.
>>
So the consensus is to reveal yourself am I correct?
>>
>>19161528
Yes but I'm more for extorting them rather than tricking them.
>>
Wanted to handle this more thru dialog but this was my thinking.

The cure for the poison is the specialty bows we have. We can demo this with Bubbles, showing that it works when she sips some harmless bee honey. "See? It works, etc."

The reason for the trashed hive is "I am here to settle a score with the bees. But, hey, you're in luck I happen to like wasps, I even have one of my own. Well, she's not exactly your kind, serving me as she does is a fate worse than death as you would see it." *eye the punching bag**hint*hint* "But the point is I wanted to make sure she was safe from all this so I gave her some protection. Now, I didn't intend for you to get mixed up in this. But that's what you get for dealing with this moron."

Etc...
>>
rolled 7 = 7

Why not some Jiu-Jiutsu Spider style, we can convert bee 213 to some sort of nunchaku and atack the wasp with her!

(It's fucking brilliant, I know.)
>>
>>19161574
Threatening the reveal to the ants of their current weakness gives us a potential out of this situation.
Making bows for all the wasps would use up our supplies of kite and the nectar may wear off before we can get them all bows, which would prove we lied to get them to wear stupid bows
>>
( Of such are /tg quests made. )
>>
>>19161603

Also *very* good thinking with the ants. A stick and a carrot works wonders.

I think we can stop everything else and pump out bows enough to string them along.

Screw the bees, they're incompetent. While a big assed glorious battle has it's appeal I say we steer our own fate.
>>
Plus, we're a dictator, not a chemist. Hell, we don't know how any of this stuff works so we're not exactly lying, right?

OK, yeah we running on total BS here but we have to do something. And now we have a credible threat as well ( Ants ) to get the wasps appreciation of fashion based solutions pumping.

"You idiots messed her up! She won't be useful at all if she keeps blabbering about spiders! What kind of spider would be inside a bee hive anyways!"

"My kind!" You boldly yell as you jump out of your hiding place.

The commander is quick to recover from the surprise.

"Well you certainly know how to time a dramatic entrance. Who might you be and how long have you been spying on us?"
>>
Um, this might be a bad time to run this quest. The sup/tg/ archive currently isn't working.
>>
>>19161736

What?
Do you mean that the archival process isn't working?
Because otherwise, the site is working normally for me.
>>
>>19161736

It will be saved one way or another. "LL" has been good with the occasional request to have something fixed, like getting a tar ball of a saved thread up into the archive. I'm not sure if he's directly running things now but current management should be receptive to an unusual request for something like this, at least for a reasonably established running quest.

If not it can be saved else where and the wiki updated to point to it. Nothing will be lost.

Why do I imagine Bibi suddenly sounding like Errol Flynn and going. "UNHAND HER BASE KNAVE!" And a flashy sword fight commencing.

Just a humble spider and obtainer of exotic goods, for example the nectar that causes this situation.
Who would have thought things would get this out of control.
Now, we may be willing to negotiate a cure but first I should warn you that we have runners ready to inform the ants about the current weakness of your nest if we do not return. Perhaps you saw the dragonfly as you approached, he was carrying my orders back to my associates. Preventing me leaving here would spell your own doom.

Now, let's deal.

"Extort? No save you. I know you're not impressed with altruism. You've got to admit the ants are a problem, I certainly do and I could tell you some stories. But time is short and you need a cure."

"Agree and you will be saved. I require nothing in return save a hostage as a token of your good will."

*now eye the punching bag and cross fingers!*
>>
>>19161878
What my clients choose to do with the items I obtain for them is not my concern.
I was not aware of the bee's plans for the nectar.

And with regards to extorting you, that is not my intention, I am merely informing you of the benefits of not hindering my departure.
Whenever I walk into a situation, I aim to have a means of leaving it. The potential destruction of your nest seems like a good one given the situation, no?

Now, I'm sure we can come to some sort of arrangement between us.
You desire a cure. I desire to leave this hive in one piece.
And how about this for a sweetener, if I give you the cure and you allow me to leave, I will not give it to the bees, and, in return, you do not kill any more of them over this debacle.

(Nectar will wear off after a while so the bees should be ok, anybody got any other suggestions?)

"You have honeyed words spider.
You can weave your lies as well as you weave your silk. But you shouldn't try to lie to us about our most hated enemies. We know them better than anyone else.
The ants do not listen to others. We have fought them for generations, and we know this much. Your runners won't return from their trip to the ants. The ants will kill them like they do with all the outsiders.
You are entering a game that is way over your head. Your meddling might have tipped the scales in the favor of the ants. This will be disastrous for all of the creatures living here.

Now, you listen to me. You will give the cure to us, you will lead us where it is located and then, you will go back to the hole you crawled from. We have enough problems without a spider with a god complex ruining our schemes. You have already weakened the bees and us, and the ants still reign as strong as ever.
Our deal with the bees was more than fair, we didn't kill them, and they provided us with honey. Now, it's ruined. And this is your fault.
You will come take us to the cure, now. No conditions. You will give it to us, and then you will leave. This is our offer, decline, and we will rip your apart one leg at a time.

You might be able to manipulate the bees, but you are a fool to underestimate our intelligence."

The wasps are unconvinced.
(Really, they are much smarter than the bees. And they do know about ants a hell of lot more than you do. Though they still believe that you have a cure, so all is not lost.)
>>
I kinda doubt it will work, but maybe we can use the stuff from the mushrooms in our tree, the stuff that killed the Aphid.
>>
>>19162206
I suppose we'll have to cut our losses then.

If they are as intelligent as they seem to be, they are unlikely to fall for the colourful bows.
Mix up a placebo and tell them it will help speed up the recovery time?
As for leading them to it, we want to avoid leading them to our hideout if we can.
Any ideas?
Having beaten up wasp assigned to keep an eye on us and thus giving us an opportunity to talk with her would be good as well.
>>
>>19162206
Welp, they're way too smart to trick, especially it's frilly bows. I say we just shrug and tell them it just wears off after a bit.
>>
There is still the problem of leading them there. And they will want someone to test it to make sure it is safe. So we will probably just end up exploding a bee that is under the influence if we do that.

We would have better luck luring them into a trap. Get Kahless and go find the giant lumbering monsters and see if we can't slip away in the confusion. Alternately, we lead them back to the shed and see if we can't McGyver something together. It has been awhile, but there has to be something we could use in there. The important thing is we don't want them coming back to our base.

So placebo as we lead them away? At this point we are stalling for time more than anything. I still think it is dubious whether we are going to get to live after this mess is done.

Anyway, tell them we will need to collect the ingredients first. Make the path as round about a possible. Leaf from this tree, water from this pond, the eyes of a water bug, ect ect. Stall like the wind. Pray that the remaining bees are getting their act together while we are keeping the remaining coherent wasps busy.

Alternately, don't most insects breathe through their skin? Couldn't we suffocate them somehow if we created some sort of degreaser (remove waxy coating of armor) and water mix? We could say then need to absorb the concoction through their skin for maximum effect.
>>
>>19162355
With two friends right next to her and more off camera, yes. Attacking is probably a bad idea unless we are sure backup is immediately inbound.

Speaking of which, can we get an overshot of the area again to see where everyone is / if we can jump to an exit quickly?

But if we grab her we can use her as leverage. We're a jumping spider we should be pretty good at that.

Fuck going with the wasps.
We are in a confined space the wasps can't fly as freely as they normally can, if we go out, we will lose even that minor advantage over them.

Throw spear at leader, jump behind wasps, keep their attention until the bees can move. Hopefully Kahless et al show up soon, and hopefully the bees join in.

Dramatic action will out.

So, are you going to fight or not?
I have seen one suggestion for throwing your spear towards the wasps. You do realize however that it's your only longer than your fangs range weapon right now.

Hold onto spear, continue to distract until the bees get here.

I hope you don't mind this, but I'll go with the first roll made.

Regarding future rolling, it will be done in the earlier method. This type obviously doesn't suit this quest.

Sorry guys for that, I was just trying to experiment a little.

"NO! No more talking! It's time to see if you can fight as well as you can spin your lies!"

Xias and the other wasps prepare to attack you. Your superior spider reflexes allow you to react to this however. You can do one thing before they attack, dodge, pounce or something else. What will you do?

(Anyone else having posting problems?)

"Sisters! Let's tea-MPFHHH!"

Before Xias manages to order her troops to attack you, you quickly spray her with web.
She stumbles backwards and the other wasps are momentarily confused as they have never seen their leader in this state.

You have now enough time for one action, though the wasps recover very quickly, and are currently surrounding you.
Choose your action wisely.

>>19163439
Bibi-jizzing-into-wasp-faces.jpg

Anyway, shank one of the guards, and signal the backup to come.
>>
Surrounding us? Clearly these wasps doesn't know about JUMPING spiders. As long as we can jump, no one can surround us!

Jump away into a better attack position. Try to have all wasps at your front, where you could punish any advance on their behalf with a quick spear thrust.
>>
Jump to higher ground away from the wasps
>>
Also yell to the punchingbag-wasp that we surely saved his life AGAIN. Either he would be very welcome to attack his former bullies to repay his debt and earn our friendship or he should abscond out of here, before he gets in our way.

The bees clash with the wasps.
The aerial combat is swift and brutal, one wasp is stronger than 5 bees, but they are heavily outnumbered.
The stench of the bee pheromones fills the air, as the dead bees start to fall to the ground, driving the workers berserk.
The wasps seem to have forgotten about you, as they are now preoccupied with the bees swarming around them.
You help as well as you can, shooting webs at the wasps and tangling them up, causing them to fall to the floor, but the wasps are managing to hold on their own. The swarms of the workers have forced them to back off a little, but only one wasp has died, while there are already over 10 dead bees lying on the ground.
