(Hey, /tg/. This is my first attempt at a quest - Wish me luck.)

ZONE: Purgatory
TIME/DATE: REDACTED

DAY 1

INITIALIZING
.

.
.
YOU HAVE CONTROL

The world fades into focus, beneath the alien light of a raw-meat sky. The land stretches out before you, an endless plain of irregular tiles - Like overlapping scales, perfectly fitted, paving the way ahead.

On either side, mirrored skyscrapers loom, hollow and cyclopean in the crimson light of the eternal sunset.

At the corner of your vision, a shimmering green bar borders the display; The measure of your life, echoed by the great spheres of twin black suns overhead, drawn towards one other with awful gravity.

They meet, with a CRASH like universes colliding - Filled with a revolving pupil of swollen color, sparks flaring over the electronic buzz of their contact, as words resolve redly before you.

In the mirror landscape, you glimpse your own reflection; Even as a swiftly-moving blot appears on the horizon, resolving into an indistinct shape as it speeds towards you...

You raise an arm:

[ ] ...Sheathed in pitted black ceramite, with the ponderous unstoppability of a glacier.
[ ] ...Forged from brushed steel, reassuringly solid.
[ ] ...Shaped in lightweight crimson endosteel, with an eerie, fluid grace.

As

[ ] ...Your finger tightens hungrily on the trigger.
[ ] ...Your blade hums to life.
[ ] ...Patient ticks of lightning crackle across your tank-wrecking fist.

Do we pick one of each option, or just one?

Good luck! I'm not going to participate because I've been up for the last 15hours and I really need sleep.

One of each option, my bad.

Your form is equal parts knight and gunslinger, encased in a crimson exoskeleton. Like a baleful eye, your mono-optic sensor locks in place, with a sickly emerald glow - Focusing on your incoming opponent. Faintly, at the very edge of perception, you can make out the subliminal mutter of your audience; Like ghosts, like phantoms, hungry for violence.

At a thought, the forearm sheaths of your armor retract, revealing the twin barrels of matched gatlings; They spin up, with a rising *whirr*, as ammunition clunks into the breech.

Now, at last, you can make out your opponent. A great, winged form - Leathery pinions outstretched, an almost simian form bulked out with artifical muscle and slate-grey steel. Steam hisses from articulated jaws; Twisted ram's-horns catch the light, as it swoops towards you, a blot of seething black fire gathering around one clawed fist.

Aim for the wings. Stand and deliver.
>>
>>19195611
Go for the fucking wings, we take out it's main mobility we can dance around it all day. Focus on blowing one wing out, it'll need two. That should fuck it's flying up enough to dodge to the side.

The throaty mechanical clunk-clunk-clunk of your autocannons cycling into life merges into a buzzsawing snarl - Blurts of fire gouting from all four barrels, as you unleash a hail of fire. The tracers hiss and spit through the air, like reverse hail; The winged nightmare banks, hard, in an evasive arc...But you're so much faster.

Through the flash-flicker of muzzleflash, you see ragged holes open up in the batlike pinions - The unhealthy-looking wounds weeping yellow ichor, as your opponent's form judders under the punishment...But not before it lashes out, the sphere exploding outward into a line of brilliant fire that stabs over your right shoulder, barely missing your head. You feel the heat even through your armor, a scorched line carved into the ruddy tiles underfoot.

First blood.

Baphomet's wings furl; The pagan shape diving down like a swooping eagle, the air churning like a stormfront as it descends. You see a few stray shots ping off the pitted grey of it's carapace - But you can see an amber glow through the joins of its overlapping armor, as your tracker registers a tenuous target lock...

YOU HAVE CONTROL.

>>19195710
Do we have any other weapons?
>>
>>19195710
Aim for the weak spot, get as much fire in there as we can before it gets to ground. Once it hits ground our objective is to gain distance, it's not going to really be flying anymore so try to find a higher location or one with plentiful cover to dodge between.

Also what is meter?
>>
>>19195720

Very soon. Dealing and receiving damage spikes up the meter, with an emphasis on dealing damage - Your arsenal is progressively unlocked as it rises.
>>
>>19195731
I agree with this.
>>
>>19195749
>>19195731

Your double-barreled cannons boom over and over, sparks flaring as large-calibre rounds smash into Baphomet's slate-grey form; You adjust your aim, gunfire chewing into the seams between the overlapping plates - You can *see* the damage done, see the way it wavers in it's supersonic descent...

And at the very last moment, before the hellish shape slams into you, you hurl yourself aside in the longest impromptu roll of your life.

The *impact* blasts rotating fragments of lethal sharpenel through the air; The edge of the shockwave buffets you, as you rise to one knee - Sulphur-tinged smoke rising from the new crater, your optics cutting through the fog...

-As a baleful yellow light winks to life within the smoke. A humming ray of heat sweeps across the cracked ground, leaving a scorched crescent to your right - The enemy is firing blind, an oddly hunched shape resolving into view, at the heart of the impact zone.

With a *click*, the firing locks disengage - Green ready lights winking to life on your display.

TIER ONE WEAPONRY UNLOCKED

> TRISKELION LAUNCHER - 3%/Missile, INDIRECT FIRE.
> PLASMA CASTER - 10%/Projectile, DIRECT.

NEXT TIER:

> FUSION ANNIHILATOR (30%)
>>
>>19195816
Does switching weapons cost part of the meter? That is, would engaging the Plasma Caster take the meter down to 14%?
>>
>>19195816
When you say 3% and 10% is that a cost thing, is it per period of use or we get it, for that much for the rest of the battle and does it exchange it for our auto cannons?
>>
>>19195839
Is it the same for the Fusion Annihilator, or is 30% the cost for us to switch to it, whereupon we can fire it as much as we want?
>>
>>19195846
>>19195831
>>19195826
>>19195854

The costs are by use. Weapons that are unlocked stay unlocked, immediately after you reach the threshold - And even if you drop back beneath it.

The Annhilator's unlocked (and available for firing) at 30% meter.
>>
>>19195839
Pricey, but almost certainly worth it.

Ok, we should hold off on burning out meter until we have a better opportunity then him hunched with all his armor surrounding by dust and smoke.

Either find somewhere either high up or with lots of chest high cover we can utilize but big guy over there won't be able to use as well. Not sure which as I don't know the terrain features. Hold our meter for a bit, I'd rather wait for a better opportunity. Keep the pressure on and watch for his sphere of death.

A strategy we might want to use later if we're feeling particularly pressured is to get behind cover, drop all of it into indirect fire like the missiles and attack him at the same time.
>>
>>19195866
If the skyscrapers are accessible, we can skip from window to window or simply fire down from the roof.
>>
>>19195816
Question about the Triskelion Launcher, it says 3%/missile, can we launch multiple missiles at once, and if so what is the upper limit.

(Up to six missiles at once, cost is per missile. It has a fairly rapid rate, though, so you could conceivably unleash a torrential hail of missiles.)

The eerie emptiness of the city works to your advantage - the buildings are mere mirrored facades, but a perfect imitation of the world away from this place. Pistons hiss as your legs coil beneath you: You spring back, away from the debris cloud, knees bent to take the impact as you land on the roof a blocky storefront, a stunted shape amid the skyline.

As the smoke clears, you-

Fire gouts out beneath your feet, and the room explodes. The blast plucks you from your feet like a rag doll - You hit the ground rolling and skidding, your armored fingers gouging deep, as you tumble to a bone-rattling stop. Smoke rises from your limbs...

What the hell was that?

> i wuv fwire!

The sound - The words half-heard, over the ringing in your ears- is a vile high-pitched giggling, issuing from above; Your vision locks of a swarm of tiny shapes, like fat grey cherubs, cackling as they circle overhead. Each one is a shrunken little monster, too-wide grins crammed with sharp teeth as they juggle tiny spheres of black flame.

Fortunate that the gatlings are so fast. They were made for this. Take them all out. Use the false city's structures for cover.

Always keep something solid between us and Baphomet.
>>
>>19195992

Wow, that's gloriously fucked-up.
>>
>>19195992
That is just plain fucked.

Fortunately it burned through most of Baphomet's meter I would hope. So we have rapid fire guns and high accuracy. Start opening fire on the imps, if they don't get taken out quickly enough I could justify using one missile against them but would rather not.

And as always keep as many walls between us and Baphomet as possible.
>>
>>19196024
>>19196006

Faced with a pack of fucked-up little monsters, you turn your guns on them with something like relish; Your gatlings spit chains of gunfire into the crowd overhead, high-pitched screams reaching your ears as the heavy rounds *shred* them into scraps of grey flesh and spite-

> my bwwains!
> i don't wuv painnnn!

-One of them gets a shot off, as you *leap* for the next building; The concussion of the blast gives you the very hot, very hard *shove* you need to clear the gap, your boots skidding on the roof as you whirl round to fire. You're ripping them apart at an incredible rate, but the flock of damnation is hooving *closer*, their shrill complaints like a wailing choir.

A single missile spirals up from your launcher, a expanding ball of flame sending them hurtling from the sky like a flock of scorched birds - You hear their pudgy forms splatter all around you, breaking apart beneath the airburst..

-But not all of them. There's exactly seven left; Pinpoint bursts of fire claw two from the air, but the other five are upon you - Wrenching at your limbs, with surprising strength for such little bastards, raking at your armor, giggling as they attack.

> i wuv murder!

> *i* wuv destwuction!

You manage to snatch one from the air - A point-blank volley shreds it apart, but they remaining four are *everywhere*, as you struggle to fend them off. With your hands full, you can't see Baphomet; But the silent *chime* of your system tells you he's still in the game...

>>19196094
Requesting information on Plasma Caster, Fusion Annihilator, and Longinus Railgun System.
>>
>>19196094

Is this a 'charge up slowly' kind of weapon like the Mega Buster or do we just fire them of all at once as soon as we like?
>>
>>19196094
Get to a different location right now. They were meant to give Baphy time to relocate and hit us by surprise, we can't spend any more time standing still. After location change finish off the four remaining imps and then appraise the situation, find Baphomet.
>>
>>19196111

> Plasma Caster

This is your shotgun weapon. It fires a scattershot burst of plasma flechettes, expanding as they go. It does the most damage at point-blank range, but it has decent reach. It's also bright enough to blind.

> FUSION ANNIHILATOR

This is one of your big guns. It takes a bit of time to charge, longer if you want to 'stack charges', but it releases them all in a massive ray. You can place charges in Power or Duration, for a longer blast or a wider blast.

>> LONGINUS RAILGUN SYSTEM

A magnetic accelerator, which fires a single hypervelocity projectile. It's meant to be fired while braced, as a sniper shot, but you can fire it freely. It's hard to hit with at great distances (Unless you take the time to lock on) but does horrendous damage the further away the enemy is.
>>
>>19195959
Every quest needs a Masakaki.
>>
>>19196118

You make a primal, snarling sound as the imps mob you - Your armored fist clenches around a throat, and you slam it into the ground, with enough force to hear brittle bones break. The remaining three are doing their level best to make an absolute nuisance of themselves; With a grunt of effort, you leap from the rooftop, as pudgy but strong claws gouge at your helmet's visor from behind...

-Even as a ragged, bat-winged silhouette bursts from the smoke, just in time for you to plunge past; A line of fire sizzles past you, close enough to incinerate the imp gnawing at your left arm. The thing's head, jaws still locked, falls away into the beam, flash-burned to nothing in a heartbeat.

The air whips past you, as you fall - The wails of your hanger-ons ringing in your ears, as they struggle to cling on to your tumbling form. You rip another one off, and whip it face-first into the side of the building; The last one is *directly beneath you* when you hit the ground, squashed like an overripe grape as you slam into the crimson brick of the street below.

The impact makes dark spots dance in your vision, makes your teeth rattle, but it's stunning rather than painful. Levering yourself to one knee, you make out Baphomet's ravaged form directly overhead - It's barely staying in the air, one wing sporting more rents and tatters than sailcloth, hovering more from effort than anything else. Your barrage has done quite a number on it; You can see the dark stains of ichor over the slate-grey carapace, the cracks in the ceramite where the relentless shots penetrated at last.

Sparks flicker at the thing's leering maw, patient tics of lightning crackling between its claws and fangs; It's charging up for another shot, charging up to fill the alley with fire and death - But you're faster on the draw, now.

YOU HAVE CONTROL.

Fire two missiles at its wings and unleash the gatlings, while running for cover yet again.
>>
>>19196202
Charge up the Fusion Annihilator and have a beam war with Baphomet.
>>
>>19196202
We don't have time for the Fusion, and the Caster isn't meant for this.

Launch 6 missiles at him, meant to curve around a bit from the side so his frontal blast at us can't knock them off target, focusing on previously damaged areas, two for his remaining wing and four for center of mass, those are indirect fire so if there is cover to had get to that immediately and don't bother staying to shoot, play it cautious, if not open fire and deal whatever damage we can.

LET'S NUKE HIM.
>>
>>19196227

We can finish this now. So what if we take a hit? He should be much more damaged.
>>
(It seems to be a tie. Missiles, or Annhilator?)
>>
>>19196264
Since we seem to be going for a quick finish launch a quick pile of six missiles to disrupt him and get all six charges up.

Tightly focused beam given that he isn't going to be hard to hit, long duration and high power.

We're going all or nothing up.
>>
>>19196264

Missiles, definently.

>>19196228

Go with this.
>>
>>19196264
both!
>>
There comes an instant's pause, as the Triskelion launcher racks - As the hum of the Fusion Annhilator's charging coils drowns out the hammer of your pulse. Smoke gouts around you, with a WHOOSH of launch - Your missile pack deploying, hurling explosive death skyward. Each rocket rises on wings of jetair and flame, spiralling upward through contrails of exhaust; They leap away on their first and final journey, shrinking to mere pinpoints of furious radiance...

Six new suns bloom beneath the bruised sky. It seems so distant, so faraway, as the air bulges and warps beneath the blast...But that's only the prelude.

The Fusion Annhilator shudders with furious heat; Telltales wink along the side, as it opens up, blossoming like a steel flower - Before a violet beam stabs forth, widening into a nova-flare corona.

Another false dawn.

You see a tiny figure, riling in the apocalyptic blast - struggling, writhing, lost amid a storm of energy and ruin - before your glare filters cut in. There's a bright flash - Followed by a blinding, surging, expanding sphere of white light.

Then the shockwave hits you, and stamps you down into the cracked tile.

(Continued...)
>>
>>19196342

And if you listen, past the shriek of displaced air, past the awful turbulence that churns the sky...

-You can hear a sound very much like a roar, a scream, as the light takes your opponent to pieces. Burning ash cascades down from the sky, in a smoldering rain - The subliminal murmur of the watchers rises into almost audible cheers, the soft drum of applause.

When it's safe to look again, the very first thing you see - The first thing you hear - is the hum of the black spheres overhead, one swelling in size, the other visibly diminishing...Then winking out, like a candle being snuffed, the iris revolving madly as it shrinks away to nothing.

What do these do?
>>
>>19196389
I'd rather wait for us to have a stable base set of abilities before we go for something like Evol, and I'd rather not base it on something random like Roulette.

We are very dodge based and rely more on tactical positioning then anything else so we can delay Guard and Survive for now.

Honestly most of our damage was with our main weapon and if we had chosen to we could have done most of the fight with it and just kept on blowing him to pieces. I'm voting for Force, we'll be using it in pretty much every single fight.

Also use our guns to make a Harlequin Face on a convenient nearby wall, if that's too complex just do a smiley face. We're the Red Joker, may as well play to the crowd.
>>
>>19196394

> EVOL

It increases the inherent abilities of your form - Like Baphomet's innate power to fly, for example.

> ROULETTE

Gives you the chance to win a random Relic - An artifact of one kind or another. Relics don't require meter, but have their own rules: It's entirely random as to what you get, however. Relics can be traded, gifted, stolen and (very rarely) destroyed outright.
>>
>>19196416
By stable base set of abilities I mean solid foundation.

Evol seems interesting but I'm sticking with Force. More dakka, and I think it would apply to the stuff that costs meter.
>>
>>19196389
Going with Force. We did a lot of the initial damage with our primary weapon.

> [X] FORCE

Corospant flickers across your form, limning you in witchlight as your feet leave the ground. The sensation is cold, intensely uncomfortable, but painless; You hear faint, mechanical sounds as your armor assumes the new configuration, broadening at the shoulder as angular cooling fins open up, smoldering with heat.

You can hear the steady hum of the generator at the very core of your being, a reassuring contra tempo: You turn in a single sweeping motion, both arms raised, gatlings blasting. Not solid rounds, this time - Cohered projectiles of fiercely seething plasma, the nuclear flame scorching your mark into the side of the mirrored building.

It's a grinning graffito, sketched out in still-smoking scars; The sign of the Red Joker.

That's right - In this game of death, there are four suites...But only one Joker. As far as you know, you're *unique*.

The world shimmers, for an instant; The reality around you fading away, the arterial sky and the mirror-bright city receding to more familiar colors. Tarmac under your feet, rather than red tile: Brick and mortar, instead of gleaming mortars.

You exhale, your breath fuming in the cold night air. You turn your wrist; In the wan light of the streetlamps, the Joker's face smirks its eternal grin from the surface of the crimson card, the last pixels of illumination fading into the gloom.

"I didn't think you'd be hanging out here, man. What's up?"

"Nothing," you say - And you mean it.

Nothing at all.

He shrugs, placing a hand behind his head - His rumpled school uniform the same as yours, his shoes tapping out his measured stride. With one last glance over your shoulder, you move to follow him, back out into the crowded streets...
