You are Sonia Reynard, man at arms for the House of Jarik-Dremine. It has been three days since your role in the Battle of Gesaur concluded and you've just been promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader! Your commanding officer is Knight Daniel Sylvan who has just been promoted to the rank of Captain.

Mop up actions on the surface have ended and evacuation of the civilian populace is nearly complete. With radioactive fallout clouding most of the world's main continent all of the now free slaves and workers are being transported to the world of Robrinaan, the only system in the region that could possibly handle the influx of refugees.

Teams of engineers are busy dismantling the medical equipment in the hospital for transport off world, all under the watchful eyes of intelligence personnel from a dozen Houses. The slave chip implantation equipment is officially being moved to Robrinaan so work can begin on complete removal of the chips from all those implanted. Even with this equipment available it will take months to treat everyone.

Rumor among the fleet is that Gesaur will likely become a hostile environment training site complete with abandoned cities ready to be used for urban combat practice. After seeing footage of the city streets the rest of the ground troops had to fight their way through you're glad your unit crossed the bay to seize the factory.

In the downtime the cooling systems for the Bittenfeld's Heavy pulse cannons have been installed. All of the other repairs to the ship are mostly completed though the outer armor looks like a mess in places. For the moment you're hanging on to your spare requisition until you find out what's happening next.

Shipboard medics have looked after your leg wound which is mostly healed. You're under orders to either use a cane or a crutch to keep weight off the leg for the rest of the week.

Christmas may not be the most celebrated holiday that it was in ages past but it's still considered a Morale booster. A letter from your parents confirmed they recieved the gift you sent a little over a week ago. Anticipating the lengthy resupply times your parents also sent a gift early. A set of bamboo slips inscribed with The Art of War.

You're in the middle of figuring out where to put them when the bridge contacts you.

"Bridge to Reynard, we've recieved a message from the Knight Commander's ship. She's requesting you come aboard to meet with her as soon as possible."

>Anything you'd like to do before heading over?
>Also, crutch or cane? (in before cane blade requests)

>Anything you'd like to do before heading over?
Did we lose any crew in the last space battle?

I guess most things can wait until we're back from meeting the commander. I doubt we want to keep the fleet's superior officer waiting.

>>Also, crutch or cane?
Cane.

Your ship lost three crewmen from a torpedo hit which disabled one of your good fusion drives.

A lower quality one would have exploded causing more internal damage. If the torpedo hadn't been detonated by the armor where it did everyone in that section would have died regardless.

1100 hours

A navy Lieutenant opens the door and leads you into Knight Commander Abigale Winifred's drawing room. The room isn't overly large by any means but is well appointed. Stained wood paneling covers the walls and ceiling, as well as framing a fake fireplace to the left. Velvet lined chairs and side tables made of similar wood sit atop Ottoman style rugs.
There are four chairs, three on the opposite side of the room, one of which is occupied by the Commander, and a fourth closest to you facing them.

"Welcome Pilot, please be seated." She says indicating the chair closest to you. "I understand you recently took part in the ground action alongside your commanding officer?" The Knight asks, lifting a glass of wine from a side table.

"Yes sir."

She glances towards your leg for a second before continuing.
"I have been keeping an eye on numerous upcoming officers and soldiers, ones who have shown an abundance of potential. You are hardly alone when it comes to those showing an ambitious streak I assure you. Few however have acquired a cruiser, a pirate cruiser no less."

"Thank you sir."

"Your work on the surface also drew a great deal of attention. I believe your team may have run into some interested parties from more powerful Houses? The death of Rebel leader Alowishus Tichborne was unfortunate but perhaps necessary. He may be a martyr now but alive he could have rallied more supporters and threatened to expose the plots of several great Houses. I hope you understand that for the time being your Marine Sergeant Jing Ki has to be credited with the kill."

2300 Hours
Gesaur Prison Hospital complex

You limp through the deserted halls of the Hospital's west wing using a crutch you found to keep the weight off your leg. Between the crazy goings on like free slaves running around or that spec ops team showing up it would have been easy to forget the sedated prisoners in the hospital. While those previously held in stasis tubes had been set free and were being evacuated, these others hadnt been touched yet.

Mike meets you at the entrance to the ward.

"Hey, they've already taken the Count away. What's the situation out there?" He asks.

"We're winning." You tell him, "I think a division reached the space port already."

"Good to hear." He pauses and pulls out a container about the size of a flask but filled with vials of different coloured liquids. It looks like a data storage device is built into the side of it. "I found this on Leroit, look familiar?"

You frown and step into the room still filled with sedated patients. The Doctor had been tied up and taken away already. A pair of medics were monitering those in the room to be sure they didnt wake.

"Are you our relief?" One of them asks. You respond in the negative.
>>
You spot some containers like the one Mike has but plugged into the IV of a patient. Looking around it seems like most of those in the room have a similar setup.
"What is this stuff?" You ask showing it to the medic.

"Not sure. It seems to have some weird effects on the nervous system and neurotranmitters, or at least one of the drugs does. I havent had enough time to figure out what the rest do."

Mike glances out the doorway hearing the sound of boots approaching.

"People from Intel incoming." He tells you. "And not from our House either."

>[X] Hide Mike's vial

If those guys are not from our House, we should probably try to keep some of the interesting around for Jarik-Dremine's intelligence service.
>>
You take the vial Mike had shown you and stuff it into an empty ballistic magazine one of the marines must have dropped. The magazine is safe inside your harness when the first of the officers and troops enter the room.

"Everyone out." Says the highest ranking officer, a Lieutenant commander. "We'll be taking custody of these Rebels."

One of the Medics try to argue citing that some have slave chips implanted but they refuse to listen. "Get out or we're throwing you out. There's only four of you and a dozen of us, and we have more backup on the way. Get moving."

You and Mike salute and make for the door.
"We're still in an active combat zone you idiots, don't salute me!" Yells the officer after you.

>Present day.

Knight Commander Winifred leans back in her chair and laughs.
"You still have that vial somewhere?" She eventually asks.

"Yes sir."

"Good! I suspect you have no idea how much that small item is worth. Have someone trustworthy deliver it to me by the end of the day. Our own intelligence personnel will undoubtedly be interested in it."
>>
>>19200008
> "Sniper Check!"
never forget that when you salute a officer in battlefield. You are sticking it to the man in the right way!
>"Sorry Sir, Stealth Infiltrator Sniper Check!"
Allways be specific to your grivience and the reason for doing a sniper check.

And if you have men at your command you can order them to do sniper checks on that officer too. preferably at 3 m distance from each other in a very long line.

"Now on to the real reason I have asked you here today. Your ship." She activates a com built into the lepel of her uniform. "You may enter."

Seconds later one of the wood paneled doors slide open. The first to enter is a rather small Dro'all male wearing a navy officer's uniform. You get the feeling he would be hard to pick out of a crowd.
Following close behind is one of the green scaled Rovinar, its neon blue mohawk clashing with its robes, all some shade of purple or pink trimmed with gold. Obviously ornamentation isnt limited to the Dominion.

"Allow me to intruduce Captain Hyun Teclam with House Intelligence and Ambassador Aktinen a government official from the Rovinar Assembly."

"We have an opportunity for you." Begins the Captain. "When your ship was salvaged and repairs first begun it was marked as a possible intelligence resource. We were somewhat surprised when you took it as part of your salvage claim. There was little we could do about it at the time as you were well within your rights to take it.
You would not know this but while your vessel is certainly part of the House fleet we made sure it did not enter the official ship registry. Essentially no other House is aware of its existance. Combined with its past history of use by a rogue pirate crew it would be perfect for masquerading as a pirate starship."
>>
>>19200188
"Which brings us to the opportunity part." says the Ambassador taking over. "We have two possible missions available and we would like you and your ship to take part in one. The first option would be an infiltration mission recovering data from the nearest pirate main fleet and then using it to hunt down a target we will specify if you are interested.
The second option is a false flag operation. It would require a longer deployment to reach your target zone and the entire thing could take weeks or more."

"A third option is trading or selling your ship to us." Adds the Captain. "You would be compensated appropriately."

"You could also refuse." Says the Knight Commander "But I would not expect any more job offers or a great deal of help from intelligence in the future."
>>
>>19200159
and the fact that no house knows Jarik-Dremine has it is in and of itself worth entire battle fleets.

Of course if anyone else knows we have it and Jarik-Dremine does not know they know is worth again entire battle fleets but in gain for them and in loss for Jarik-Dremine.

Puts things in perspective, dosen't it?

The Intel people can suspect that Jarik-Dremine might have something. We should suggest that even with a cursory inventory of the stuff they got, if they get intact books - especialy if we did not manage to get rid of them, they most likely know someone there pilferd something.

some faux monetary recompensation from a faux source would be nice for us and Mike, so that it would seem we sold it to someone unconected to Jarik-Dremine. this way we set ourselves up for being contacted to spy on our house against money and due to our setup become specialized one use counter intel, and two good pay-offs.

good for us, and good for Jarik-Dremine.
>>
>>19200207
No way we are selling it.

Lets say we could consider the first mission then when the ambassador would leave try to get some time with the Knight and perhaps the Intel operator if the Knight approves after a line of "about the previous thing, if atm would be a appropriate time" or something similar to check in order of discussing the issue >>19200207

Considering that one of us is hopeing to recover some of the stealth boat systems after it gets scrapped to be shipped off to Jarik-Dremine responsible parties, and perhaps have it recorded and studied if we can in private... i think there is a lot of pay in this thing and a lot of proportional risk.

we should defiantly take it.
>>
It's a stealth boat.

How are we to track it once it goes stealth active? I assume its a corvette and they want us to alpha strike it once it's in dock or steal it somehow.

All things considerd, if it gets stealth online without a way of pinging it or having it painted, this will be a automatic mission failure, and considering a applicable and convenient detection method would render the whole point of its existence moot, i dont think there is one and if there is one the Rovinari would make sure no frigging one ever gets wind of it.

Teleporters are fucking expensive and unless we get some massive compensation for this are off the table.

the best we could get is to manage to get the pirate fleet sent of somewhere, ambush the prototype corvette, damage it not to hard and sell it off piece by piece to Rovinari and dominion, while making very, very accurate recordings and readings on each and every one of them to be given to the Dominion intel, preferably without the Rovinari knowing of it.

Yeah, teleporter was only 10k.

The boosters we got were like 300 for each engine (only we have them on 4 of the 8).
these would have to be some pretty hot stuff, and considering the extra 4 could break our cruisers structural integrity andback under extended full burn.

So they might not be such a good idea to get.

Teleporter might be better since we can take it on any ship.

Returning to the Bittenfeld with a (small) window left in the timetable you elect to sober up then get a couple of hours sleep. Using the sleep headset after some hard drinking turns out to not be the greatest idea. You're plagued by nightmares of the fighting on Loran 2 and Gesaur. The battle inside the factory against the suicide bombers replays several times before you wake up.

Partially rested you file your flight plan and move out from the fleet on schedule. You notice Knight Captain Sylvan has switched to a Light Cruiser while his Attack Cruiser is being rebuilt.

"Linda do you have everything plotted?"
"Yes sir. The star density in the area is just low enough for us to make a straight line jump."

You punch up the fusion drives on the assigned course and Linda kicks in the FTL.

The trip isn't a long one but still lasts more than an hour. All the while Linda continues to put the drive systems through their paces, adjusting power input, output and field shape. The best readings in terms of efficiency show up a little above J-10. Not bad considering the ship was designed for local engagements and guerrilla warfare. As shown from your previous tests the drives can still be run at J-19 for a week straight thankfully, it just isn't as efficient.
Linda tells you that in an emergency the ship could probably hit J-22 but not to count on it.

Your arrival in the system is quiet as expected. There is no ship traffic or signs of communications civilian or otherwise. This is understandable when you look through the planetary bodies present. No habitable worlds nor ones that could be realistically terraformed are present. There isn't even an asteroid belt to attract miners.
Using a micro jump to get the rest of the way in system lands you at the edge of largest gas giants gravity well. The shipyard is located at one of the Lagrange points trailing a smaller moon. On approach you note that the outer surface of the station is covered in layers of what must be sulfur.

The station contacts you only as you get within 100km, directing you into the single cruiser grade berth. Within a minute of your docking work crews with gear scramble over your hull, checking the cratered armor sections and beginning to spray paint pirate markings.

Lori Vaspall, the Rovinar Agent to be in charge of ELINT and the detection systems comes aboard. You cant tell if her clothing is intended as a jumpsuit or actual armor with all of the hardened sections on its surface.
>>
One of your shuttles are transferred to the station but the Marines are asked to stay aboard to help in the event the ship is boarded. A spare shuttle crew remains behind as well.
Forward in the landing bay four Type-4 Attack bombers are brought in, each loaded down with detection and sensor gear instead of torpedoes.

"If any of the techs in the launch bay can get a good look at those sensor packages without getting caught they should do so." You tell Kavos. "The ability to detect cloaked ships would be one hell of an advantage."

"I'll see what I can do." He tells you.

A few hours later Agent Gestahl requests your presence.
"Have you selected a name yet?" She asks.
"Catherine Bonny." you tell her without hesitation.

"It's acceptable enough. Here are some clothes for you. You'll need them as the captain of a pirate ship would be expected to go aboard the Command ship, if only to sell captured goods."

You look over the clothing and while they seem normal enough at first you start to notice an excess of belts and holsters for pistols and other weapons.
"Seriously?" You ask.
The largest item is a bright red coat from a dress uniform with markings indicating it once belonged to a Baron. There are burn holes in it that would match phase rifle fire. The previous owner's medals are still attached.

"You can thank Baron Archivald for the coat. He's an avid collector of antiques and rare items. Supposedly he took it off a rival from House Erid years ago."

Gestahl hands you another duffel bag, a heavy one.
"These weapons have biometric sensors so that they cant be used against you. There are also some knives for the smaller holsters. Select which ones and how many you wish to carry. I recommend you practice drawing them on our flight. You will find a stack of false tattoos in the side pocket, they should remain visible for 2-3 months."

"Do I have to choose a new name for the ship?" you ask.

"No. The IFF will show the ship as being the Ring of Caina. It was destroyed in Krath territory last year and the crew... did not survive."
"Oh."

Before you can start asking questions about why agent Gestahl looks so much like the old starship captain you once met you are unceremoniously shoved out the door.

No.

how about Jarik-Dremine insignia in a skulls mouth on our unit markings shoulder
>>
>>19210501
we leave the Jarik-Dremine insignia out until we finish this, though.

a screaming skull is always nice. in a "in space no one can hear you cry" kind of way.
>>

>>19210512
They're not permanent anyway. So let's just have Linda put a gigantic skull on our shoulder blades.

Also lets go with on the side of our shoulder, so that we can show it off when we wear a shoulder-less dress, tank top or undershirt.

First one is awesome.

Its like the opposite of the I have to scream but i have no mouth.

Its like i i have to scream but have no voice.

First one looks kinda generic. So if I had to choose, I'd take the skull on the right.

Are animated tattoos possible in the year 4023?
>>
>>19210822
Possible but not recommended at this time. Usually involves implantation of a series of nano LED's. They're susceptible to being knocked out by EMP such as those produced by starship drive fields if either are improperly shielded.

Ok. How about we simply go with a scary predator of the deep from some semi-popular hellhole?

I'm sure some planet has managed to roll an angler fish, a shark and a mouse spider into one creature.

If you want to try for this you'll need to find someone aboard who can draw and then print it out using some of the blank tattoo sheets.
Roll 1d100 for finding someone. Preferably if more people agree.

After searching through the stack of tattoos you find one of a open mouthed skull and apply it to your upper arm as per the instructions. Its a bit warm and you'll have to keep it on for a couple of Hours.

On your way back to the bridge you spot some of the dock workers removing any signs of House insignia from the corridors. You can only assume they're doing the same thing outside.

"Anything interesting happening?" you ask when you enter. Most of the bridge crew are now sporting a mix of civilian clothes and old worn duty uniforms, some from the navy others from the infantry. Kavos is wearing a desert tan uniform with Sergeant insignia. The House crest has been torn off.
"I never expected to be wearing one of these again." He tells you.

Linda is wearing a civilian navigator's guild uniform that looks brand new.
"This has my real rating on it." She tells you. "Now that I've actually passed my testing I could sign on aboard any starship that needs an extra navigator."

You ask about the dock workers.

"They're tweaking the drive systems with help from the engineers before we move out."
>>
>>19210958
>Preferably if more people agree.
I'm okay with that if we manage to find somebody who's competent enough. Waiting with the roll to see if the anon who suggested that wants to have a go at it.

>"Now that I've actually passed my testing I could sign on aboard any starship that needs an extra navigator."
"B..b-ut the crew and I would miss you terribly. And you wouldn't get to take the chair with you, so they'd probably fire you after the first week anyway." trollface.jpg

"I said could, not would." Replies Linda.

"This calling you Captain thing is going to take some getting used to." Kavos says as he stands up and hands you a datapad. "Cargo manifest. Things we'll be selling to the Pirates once we get there." he tells you before departing the bridge.

Looking through the listed items you see neuro isolation collars, light weight contraband like drugs and basic medical gear, along with navigation data for remote areas and some intel. You suspect the intel is either outdated or altogether falsified. Hopefully it wont get you killed if the pirates find something wrong with it. At the bottom of the list are some Rovinar SP Torpedoes.

You find another datapad in your chair.

Catherine Bonny
Captain
Human Female
Age 19
Private Starship "Ring of Caina"

Daughter of a Pirate Captain (Doran Bonny) who had a less than stellar career. He was against joining forces with the Pirate Warlords unlike many of his peers. With the raids every 4 years cutting into the ship's proffits too badly the crew assisted Catherine Bonny in a mutiny taking control of the ship. To prevent any uprising Doran was later executed.
>>
Some people are starting to winder if you're taking the pirate persona thing a bit too far when you start looking for someone who could draw up a battle scene for you. Agent Gestahl helps you come up with a believeable story for the battle.

Having already become one of the leaders aboard ship even before your father's death you did the real work in convoy attack. Catching them by surprise because of contacts belonging to your Marines your ship rapidly destroyed the four escort corvettes and damaged a Carrier's launch bays before they could deploy fighters. You then assisted in boarding the Carrier and killed the baron that was aboard earning you the respect of your Crew.
Your father insisted on leaving the area before the Carrier could be propery secured letting Dominion forces later retake the ship. The differences in command style caused a split which later resulted in the mutiny.

The crewman says he should have the picture of the Bittenfeld fighting the corvettes and Carrier by tomorrow, but isn't sure how how well it will turn out.

It happens.

December 28, 4023
1800 hours

With final preparations done the Bittenfeld, now masquerading at the Ring of Caina departs the dockyard and heads out of the system. Dro'all and Rovinar Agents Ebere Gestahl and Lori Vapasi are both on the bridge, using a pair of the jumpseats near the doors. The Rovinar with the help of some engineers were able to set up another rudimentary ops station to help coordinate the special fighters once they launch.

The first jump is the longest you've ever taken. More than ten hours, closer to eleven. The ghostly forms of your home galaxy and the nearer magnetic clouds fall behind you, starting to merge with the lights of the others in the Centri cluster. Even so it still stands out thanks to it's dense appearance. Linda seems a little more nervous than normal but still less than on your first few FTL jumps.

Most crew use the opportunity to rest, while the engineers continue their normal shifts and work on repairing parts of the ship interior never touched.

"Now on approach to New Tucana dwarf galaxy." Announces Linda a little past the ten hour mark.

"The navigation route we supplied should land us far enough away from the jump off station that the authorities will not bother with us." Says Agent Vapasi. "Although we not not need a full three hours to prep the jump drives after such a small trip we should still follow proceedure as we will not be stopping for seven days."

"They're right about that." Agrees Linda.

Slightly less than two hours of waiting later sensors picks up an incoming starship.

"Incoming Daggar class corvette broadcasting a Navigators guild IFF."
"We're being hailed."

"Unidentified starship, stand down and prepare to recieve an inspection team." Says the voice over the channel.

"Wonderful, space cops." Kavos looks over at the readouts on Linda's station. "They're pushing it trying to catch us this close to the drives being recharged."

"The customs ship is also broadcasting a locator beacon. If the the guild has more serious intercept ships waiting nearby they'll be all over us if this one gets any closer."

"The Dominion Third Expeditionary Fleet, along with a Terran and Rovinar Contingent might be staging near here." Warns Agent Gestahl.

>Also what kind of ship have J-22 capable jump drive?
Most ships can get up to J-22 but cant hold it for any length of time.
Kavarian Attack Cruisers are capable of J-24 for a week, Terran Excalibur class Battlecruisers are one of a very small group of ships that can hold J-26.

"Fuck the Police."

You activate the IFF then push the throttle to maximum. The extra output from the reactors cause the capacitors to charge faster but does little else for the FTL systems.

"The customs ship is transmitting a distress signal and is attempting to close on us." Reports sensors.

"Fine. Weapons, launch a torpedo towards that ship so they think twice about pursuing."

The bright flame of the torpedo arcs off to the side after launch, headed for the corvette. While the ship might be out of range or close to it they still need to back off.

"How long until we can jump?" You ask.
"The Jump is plotted, power is good, FTL systems are... almost there."

Kavos hits the com button on his chair. "Engineering, we need those jump drives."

"Reversions detected. Multiple starships."

Checking aft towards the corvette you see it's been joined by a Light Cruiser and a pair of Terran Assault Corvettes. A second later a ship similar to a Kavarian Battlecruiser jumps in but it looks much bulkier.
"Kavarian Battleship! We're being missile locked!"

Linda patiently waits, watching the system indicator until it turns green then slaps it to full power.
