>Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19180656/

Previously on knight quest: You played as Sir Sigmund Venhaus, knight errant. After turning down a title and some land, you set off for the distant north, hoping for adventure and more magical means to kill your enemies.
Sadly, you were ambushed by bandits before getting there, forever losing your ability to speak after getting stabbed in the throat.
After recovering from this harrowing experience and making your servant, Jensen, a badass at a temple to Freij, you leave for Heldengrad, capital of the Kingdom of Heldengrad, in hopes of work.
En route you run into a vargwulf and his pack of vargr. After losing half your face and the battle priest Alaric accompanying you, you defeat the monsters and set about burying Alaric.
After a short stop at a village to recover, you write your will, leaving everything to your loyal servant Jensen. Deciding to carry on to Heldengrad, you're attacked by a gargoyle as you pass through Bane's wood, losing your left arm and falling into a coma in the process.
>>
>>19211184

Finally after meeting Grim, reaper of souls and keeper of the dead, he decides to let you live, but curses you to die a horribly painful death. He also made it so your injuries can never be fixed by magic, leaving you missing your arm, voice and half a face until you die, in your horribly painful death.
Now back in the realm of the living, you find yourself in the imperial palace. Soon after awakening you discover crown prince Adalwulf wants to speak to you.

tl;dr: you lost your voice, left arm and half your face. Got cursed by death to die in a horribly painful way and are about to go see the prince.

Also in light of your previous actions, you and Jensen now have a +2 modifier against non-monstrous enemies and you get to re-roll 1's during combat(the re-roll's result is final) for surviving such horrific injuries.

>What do you do?
>>
Go to our audience with the prince, lets try and convince him to put together a force to battle the monstrous creatures which are apparently everywhere

After getting dressed the remarkably comfortable clothes provided for you. You head to the prince's chambers following behind the servant who brought you the clothes.
Jensen comes with you to translate.

After many minutes of walking you finally arrive and are show to seat in the prince's study. The servant hands you a mask to cover the mutilated side of your face before the prince arrives if you decide to put it on.

>What do you do? Put on the mask or not?

>>
>>19211410

You decide to wear the mask. You get Jensen to help you secure it to your face, your one hand not enough to do it yourself. Once secured you wonder how you look. Your head shaved bald, half your face covered by a steel mask and only one arm. You must be a sight.

Shortly after, Adalwulf turns up. You and Jensen rise, bowing to him before he motions you to sit. He himself sits behind his desk, paper work piled high upon it.

"Sir Sigmund, it's good to see you again. Though I must say, rather a lot seems to have happened since then. I didn't believe it at first, what your servant said, but after seeing you for my self, it does appear to ring true. Now you must be wondering why I have summoned you, but first I must say that your experiences don't seem to isolated incidences. We've been getting reports of these types of attacks and monster sightings since I came back from the south and I fear you've just confirmed the worst."

>Anything you'd like to say?
>>
>>19211534
My lord I request leave to assemble others such as myself, to form an order of knights who will fight these beasts.
>>
>>19211550
After getting Jensen to say this for you, the prince just nods, seemingly not surprised at this request.

"Yes, Jorge mentioned what you wanted to do and I'm inclined to grant it. The threat these monsters represent can't be ignored. However before I grant this, let me tell you why I've summoned you. You may be surprised to hear this, but I still want to offer you that title of Earl and the land that comes with it. Now before you reject me out of hand like before, I'm willing to make your servant Jensen here a knight if you accept and give my full backing to this order of knights you wish to found. So, will you accept this time?"

You wonder why he's so adamant about making you an Earl. Does he need the support so badly or does he perhaps have a different motive?
>>
>>19211620
"I will accept, but make no mistakes, my mission to rid the lands of these beasts will come before my duties as an Earl."
>>
>>19211801
If Jensen could kindly sign that for us
>>
>>19211801

He smiles at this. "Good. I would expect no less Earl Venhaus. Your patent of nobility and deed to the lands are all prepared and only require my signature. I'll have them sent on to your family who I'm sure will be overjoyed.
Ah, now on to Jensen, I don't have a sword with me at the moment, so my declaration will just have to do. Congratulations Jensen, you are now Sir Jensen Bjorge, may you serve your lord well.
Excellent, now that this is all done, you may go. You will find Jorge near the barracks for the knights. He will help form this order you want and get you better equipped. He can also tell you more about your new lands." He says this last part as he motions for you to leave, starting to do paperwork before you've even left.

>What now?

After this you continue on to the barracks. You find Jorge in the large square outside the main knight's building, talking to a fellow knight who leaves once he sees you coming.

"Sigmund, back from the prince so soon? I take it went well? Anyway, you got any idea what you're going to call this knew order of yours?"

Order of the Knecht

Opened up wikipedia and found it from the etymology section of Knight. Means servant, bondsman
>>
I quite like The Last Lantern.
>>
>>19212411
In German it means as much as servant.
A lowly, menial servant.
Not the kind of name to draw in the nobility.
>>
Order of the Lost Hand
Order of Deaths Forgotten
Order of the Black Earl
>>
>>19212441
Well, the knight is already a mute, cripple and hideous ugly. The name would imply what kind of unrelenting shit the order will be getting in.

Yeah, because we're a total egomaniac, declining titles and shit.

Order of the Grim Hand then?
We aren't an ego maniac, true, but referring to the one we pledged our soul too is probably a good move on our part.
>>
Please come to an agreement as all I can come up with is the Knights Exectioner or the Knights of Draegr.

The Knights of the Deathwatch

The Order of the Preservers of the Night

The Order of One

Knights of the Nowhere Roads

The Hounds of Venhaus!

The Silver Fist

The Last Lantern

Order of the Knecht (my vote goes for this)

Order of the Lost Hand

Order of Deaths Forgotten

Order of the Black Earl

Order of the Grim

Black Templars
>>
>>19212527
If you get two others to agree to the name.

You get Jensen to convey your order's name to Jorge. The Order of the Grim Hand. He doesn't comment on the name, but tells you he some men in mind and will see about getting them to join you.
In the meantime, you need new equipment. The prince has kindly provided you with a new suit of full plate armor and new weapon.

Sadly not.

He has provided you with a war axe. Perfectly balanced and inscribed with runes of sharpening, making it sharper than a razor and never in need of resharpening.

Jensen has also been provide with plate armor and a new flanged mace, so he can rip as he smashes, and a new shield. They have also provided him with a new hand to replace his ruined right. He now has a enchanted iron hand able to act as his old one did.

They tried to do this for you and replace your arm. It went well but on the day awoke, the arm exploded before it could be fitted to you.

>What now? Explore Heldengrad while you wait for Jorge or practice with your new stuff?

If you go into the city roll a d2. Get a 2 and nothing happens. A one is a secret.

>>
We could ask them to give us a new arm but not where the old one was.
Otherwise, maybe a prehensile tail?
>>
>>19213065
You get them to try again, determined to have your arm back. When mage begins to cast his spells to make the metal arm part of you, you suddenly collapse, overcome with excruciating pain, your ears(ear? ear and hole?), nose and eye bleeding begin to seize. You can hear that nightmare inducing laugh of Grim's as this happens.
After an hour, you finally stop.

Try again?

After recovering your episode with Grim's curse, you decide to head into the city. As you Jensen look around, you begin to notice what appears to be the same gargoyle everywhere. Perhaps it's just a common pattern? Though the head and one of the arms looks pretty new unlike the rest of it.

As I far understand, we can't have a new arm because of the curse. Then why not try to replace the lost arm something that DON'T resemble a arm instead?

Point the latest gargoyle out to Jensen so that he can inquire about them for you, but as he turns to look, it's no longer there. Thinking perhaps you're just over stressed you carry on.
As you and Jensen enter the market, you see it again. You're pretty sure it's the same as all the others you've seen. You notice some other people taking notice of it. Apparently it wasn't there before.

Jensen struggles to get up, the people underneath him hindering him. He sees it striding over to him, smashing stunned bystanders out of the way. He gets up just in time, taking its heavy blow on his shield, but slips upon the people he's standing on. It strikes him again, this time launching him off of his feet. Luckily he lands on on some bystanders who break his fall.
They finally decide to run, streaming out of the market, avoiding the gargoyle death machine.

The gargoyle goes after Jensen Moving faster than expected, it grabs him, holding him above it. Reacting swiftly, he starts pounding it with his mace, but can't seem to hit it hard enough, causing only a few cracks on its surface. Eventually it just throws him away. he strikes a wooden wall and goes through it.

Concentrating on you now. It leaps at you feet first. you barely move your head away, avoiding instant death. Instead it lands on your chest, caving in your breast plate and breaking almost all of you're ribs. You start to cough up blood in your helmet and in an act of futility you swing your axe at it. It glances off and you lose your grip on it. The gargoyle reaches down, grabbing your helmeted head and starts to squeeze. With his other hand it begins to pummel your body.

Jensen: 14
>>19214010
>>19214021

Jensen comes charging back through the wall he burst through, mace held high, shouting obscenities at the beast. It leaves you momentarily to meet his charge. He brings his mace down, destroying its jaw, but it simply ignores it and knocks him aside into a food stall.

While it was distracted, you called upon all your experience at ignoring terrible wounds and fighting till the end. You grab your axe and limping badly because of your broken leg, you slowly approach the monster. It turns just as you bring your axe down, the runed blade cutting easily through its stone body. First goes its left arm, and then its leg on the return swing, you now stand over it, ready to end it and gain sweet sweet revenge.

New ability unlocked! Relentless: No matter how badly wound, you can continue to fight.

Roll d20, you can end this now if you roll well enough.
D2 for help to arrive.

Just as you bring your axe down for the final blow, it lashes out, punching your wrist, breaking it. You drop your axe unable to hold onto it before it boots you away with its remaining leg.

Jensen begins to climb out the wreckage of the the stall, but the gargoyle kicks him in the face before he can get free, knocking him unconscious.

Jorge: 16
As all this is happening, help finally arrives. Jorge clutching his massive twohanded warhammer, comes running into the market followed by a small group of knights and the city guard. Outpacing them all, he sprints at the gargoyle and taking a running jump, leaps into the air, his warhammer held above him. He brings it down with earth shattering force, striking the gargoyle square in the body. The area immediately under the hammer head turns to dust and cracks spider web outwards from there running all over it. Finishing the job, he brings his hammer down again and again until it's nothing but rubble.

just a random thought:

Should we maybe be collecting samples of these monsters, for cataloging and study?
I mean, we're no longer some knight errant, we're headmaster of an order who's sole purpose is to destroy these things in all their forms. We should be working on keeping documentation on their physiology, tactics, strengths, and most importantly weaknesses. Maybe physical samples would aid mages in an attempt to find weaknesses (you know, once we get priests and mages in the order).

Just a thought
>>
A pretty good thought at that
We probably still have some of its blood on our weapons
Thats a start right?
>>
>>19215140
As you move through the town you see movement in the shadows, too quick to really see but you know you're being watched or stalked. As your group moves deeper, you keep your hands on weapons, ready in case of ambush.
Your torches the only light in town and your movement the only sound you can hear, no dogs barking, cats fighting or night birds. Nothing. Not a sound.
By the time you reach the steps leading up to the town hall you know that something is deeply wrong in this town. You knock on the heavy wooden doors. The sound booming in the stillness of the night.
You receive no answer but more animated movement just beyond the light.

But you know we have this whole order who could benefit from the knowledge, especially as new batches of recruits come in who may have never seen a gargoyle, instructors can at least give them briefings on what it is.

We don't need to change anything we're doing, in fact maybe our manservant Jensen could be in charge of collecting samples from our kills.

Nope, since i am bad at picking names.
>>
>>19222149
I like the name we picked. Seems fitting.

>>19216083
And I'm back.

We left off here:

As you move closer to the end of the hall, you start hearing running footsteps and animal like slavering and grunts, until you finally see the source of this sound.
Running towards you are ten ghouls. Pale, hunched over things, running on all fours like animals. Some carry knifes or pieces of wood, others nothing at all, just their teeth and hands.
You ready yourselves to fight for your lives.

>What do you do?

Now I remember the source of my nostalgic feeling.

My first try to get trough the tomb of horrors with my lil-bro. The horrible and fun times were blast. Our game spanned generations as the next in line of the "monster hunters" family spawned themselves a child and headed inside the dreaded tomb.
>>
>>19222804

ı want to take it for d2

Arnulf: 11
Gerold: 14
Dieter: 2
Eberhard: 20
Jensen:14

Thinking quickly you decide to form a shield wall and fight your way back out. Perhaps coming back with more men.
But as you do that the ghouls put on an incredible burst of speed and are among you in moments. Two leap upon Dieter, taking him down and begin to pry his armor off to reach the flesh below. When the get his helmet off of him, they manage to pop one of his eyes out and badly cut up his face.
The rest are being held off by your companions, Eberhard cleaving one in two with his axe before splitting open the head of another.
Two come at you and manage to bowl you over, prying at your armor and pining you down. One with a dagger, manages stab you through a gap in your armor, luckily it doesn't penetrate far.

>>19222973
>>19222955

Managing to break the pin you shove them away, Hitting one with the haft of your axe, smashing its jaw, but they recover quickly, coming after you.

Arnulf lunges at one deflect a knife thrust with his shield as he does. He skewers it through the heart, before booting off his sword at another charging for him.
Gerold doesn't do as well and gets taken down, slammed into a wall before one leaps upon him, dragging him down.
Dieter recovers swiftly, overcoming his pain, he manages to push them off of him before struggling up. He swings at one as it comes for him, taking its head clean off and on his back swing cuts the arm off of another before gutting it and then decapitating it as well.
Eberhard and Jensen don't do well. The ghouls moving quicker than seems possible. One jumps on Jensen's back, taking him. The other managing to stab Eberhard in the armpit through a gap in his armor. The one on Jensen has pried his helmet off and is now smashing his face into the stone floor, breaking his nose, jaw and cheek bone.

Arnulf moves to help Gerold who has managed get away from the ghoul and is now managing to hold it back. Coming from behind Arnulf swings at it, taking out one its legs, causing it to fall to the ground, Gerold capitalizes on this and crushes its head with his hammer.
Dieter moves to help Jensen but he has already managed to get the monster off of him and destroyed its head with his mace. Instead, Dieter helps Eberhard who is now struggling with the ghoul on the floor. Kicking the ghoul off of him, he finishes it soon after in a flurry of blows.

The 2 ghouls charge you and taken off balance as you attempt to stand they knock you to the floor, winding you and begin stabbing and prying at your armor. Seeing your predicament, Jensen and Dieter move to help. Jensen Kicks one off while Dieter stabs the other, barely missing you while he does it. The ghoul Jensen kicked quickly scurries off, escaping into the darkness beyond your fallen torches.

>>
>>19223377
You split your men into two groups, Dieter, Eberhard and Gerold in one while Jensen and Arnwulf comes with you.

As you search through the castle you find only dead bodies, looking like they were either fleeing in terror or fighting for their lives. You find no one alive and no sign of the Baron. Nor do you find any more ghouls or other beasts, but you're sure they're present.
Saving the great hall for last, you meet up with the other group outside its doors.

As you enter behind your shield flexing your throbbing hand, you find yourself in pitch blackness, the only light coming through the doors you punched open. The windows must be covered or blacked out in order for there to be no light.

Standing in the darkness, you wait for this unholy hellspawn to attack, your brothers in the order, standing with you.
Then suddenly you start to hear ghouls, hundreds by the sound of it, running towards your little group. Somehow you manage to see them in the darkness of the room. Silver, human shaped blobs, charging at you. Your group stands firm, despite not being able to see, striking down any who get within reach of their weapons.
You yourself manage to kill dozens of them with supernatural ease. With every swing of your axe a ghoul dies.

But then, you see it, standing behind the swarm of ghouls, you just know that this is what Grim wanted you to kill. As if noticing you looking at it, it suddenly blurs into motion, appear before you like magic and hitting you flying, your breast plate torn. Then it's on Dieter, coming from behind him, it pulls his head off before kicking his body into the crowd of ghouls who quickly mob it.

Recovering quickly, you cut down two ghouls before you and charge the monster. It charges you back, throwing the head away. You leap at it, bringing your axe down in a deadly arc. You manage to take its left arm off before continuing into its body, but the monster turns to mist as you do so and flows around you. Behind you now, you turn to meet it, axe held high and push it back in a flurry of blows.

Arnulf: 19

>>19223999

Arnulf and Jensen are veritable Juggernauts among the ghouls. Despite not being able to see, they excel at slaughtering the ghouls, shrugging off any blows that land on them. Eberhard is not so lucky. While stabbing a ghoul, his sword becomes stuck. Unable to pull it free, he lashes out with his shield while he goes for his dagger, but he quickly gets swarmed by ghouls, dragging him down and tearing him apart. He dies screaming.

With Arnulf and Jensen keeping the ghouls occupied, you concentrate on killing the monster before you. Lashing out with your boot, you catch him in the knee, but before you can cause any lasting damage, he has vanished again, appearing right in front of you and tears your breast plate off of you. Reacting faster than you thought possible you leap back, striking out with your axe, you catch him in the side, going deep before he turns to mist again. This time appearing to your left, you swing around, bring your axe across his face, leaving a terrible wound through it. This just seems to enrage him.

Jensen is getting bogged down now among all the ghouls and getting hit more and more often, denting his plate and in some places piecing beneath, slowly sapping away his strength.
Arnulf is practically destruction incarnate, where he goes, ghouls will fall. He manages to fight his way other to the beast and starts laying in. After a brief exchange of blows, he has cut off its leg and it's now down on the floor before him.

Arnulf: 2
Jensen: 14

>>19224404
Studying the creature closely now, as Arnulf lays into it, you determine it's a vampire, but not as powerful as a much older vampire lord or it would have healed its injuries by now. You determine that it's still young enough to need blood to heal but old enough that its powers have begun to develop. You know the usual weaknesses of vampires are sunlight, silver, fire and a shit tone of damage but beyond that, you do not know.

>>19224436

Jensen is slowing now, but still able to hold his own, unless something drastic happens, he won't last long.

Arnulf lays into the vampire with everything he has but it's still not enough. Even as badly injured as it is, it moves unnaturally fast, able to avoid his blows with ease. Suddenly it's behind him and before he can do anything, its plunged its hand into his back, through his plate armor. Gripping his spine, it tears it out before reaching back in and pulling free his heart. He's dead before he even knows what's happening.

Feeling your new found power surge through you, you charge back in, swinging heavily at the vampire's neck. It sways back, but you still catch it, slicing open its throat, inches from taking its head. Renewed and enraged at your companions' deaths, you practically chop the vampire apart. Stunned and apparently over matched, the vampire dies under your blows, separated limb from limb and then head from shoulders.
As the vampire dies, the ghouls let out a deafening shriek all at once before falling over dead.

>What now oh mighty slayer?

>>19224625
Tell Grim we have finished his task.

>>
>>19224625
Well shit...it's over. Tend to our many wounds as always. When we are able, gather the dead, our men deserve some respect in death for the great deeds and sacrafice here today. (Should we burn them or mass grave them or get someone to come back for them??).

At this point I think we should pray to grim and offer the vampires death as homage to him hoping to appease our god. No need for words, he's a god, I'm sure he'll get it.
>>
>>19224676
I guess it's only 5 men. Ourselves and Jensen could dig those graves if we recover fast enough.

>>19224676
>>19224661

After tending to your wounds, which were remarkably light compared to previous encounters, you Jensen set about burning the bodies of the men who came with you. You brought five with you and all five have given their lives to put a stop to this vampire.
Sadly it appears that Treiger is doomed, its populace either slaughtered or turned into ghouls to serve the vampire.

Later, while trying to think of a way to communicate with Grim, you begin to feel light headed and blackout.

"You have done well Sigmund Venhaus. As a reward for such dutiful and quick service, I shall allow you to replace your arm so that you may better serve me."
As you awaken, you find your nose broken but all your injuries healed.

>>19224691
I can do this if you want, but it will not go well no matter what you roll. Grim, reaper of souls and keeper of the dead, merely collects souls and makes sure they stay where they're supposed to. Asking this is likely to offend the other gods who's heaven their souls went to for presuming that Grim has any control over their worshipers fates in the afterlife. It will not end well.

We shall wear a piece of each man's armour as a walking memorial to those who stood by us and fell to protect the innocent from those who wait in the darkness.
>>
>>19224991
Not a bad idea with the armor thing. We could inscribe something on a breast plate or something in their memory.
>>
As if Sigmund wasn't fucking creepy already.

"Oh girls, here comes earl Sigmund Venhaus!"

>Half face gone, teeth showing.
>left arm gone.
>Just stares at you when you try to adress him.
>Covered in monsters, his own and his order brothers blood.
>Wears bits and pieces of armor from his fallen comrades.
>His broken faced knight Jensen translates the runic handsigns with the battlehardened voice of his.

>Oh yes, we gonna get harem ending fo' sho!
>>
>>19225207
Don't forget the bizzare mechanical and magical arm. Still though, imagine facing him in battle as a mere man, it would be terrifying.
>>
>>19225207
>Half a face
>One arm
>One soon to be metal arm
>Skin covered in scars and bruises
>1,000 yard stare that only a man who has actually talked to death can get
>Platemail tattered in monster fingers and siguls and token from dead men
>Creepy follower who can tank anything
>Can't speak, only twitches his one flesh hand
>Follower understands everything perfectly
>He has bad luck like no other man to live
>When ever the question "How would you like to go?" Pops up he just freezes, as if he already knows
>This guy is out Earl and leader of the men who keep us safe
>I don't know who's scarier, Sigmund the Monstrous of the ghouls
>>
>>19225257
Lol that is a brilliant description.
>>
Get a drawfag in here.
>>
>>19225257
Is that going to be our new title?
Sigmund the Monsterous?
I approve.
>>
>>19225278

But again, i think we all know who is the most badass knight here.

>>19225345

Give me some time.
>>
>>19225345
Oh my god yes. How has this not already happened!?
>>
>>19225353
Also approving. I'm going to be so sad when our hero dies.
>>
>>19225355
Sigmund the Monstrous and Jensen the Unstoppable? Men sworn to Grim to fight the night?
>>
>>19225381
Hell yes. Although I don't think Jesen is sworn to Grim (not that it really matters).
>>
>>19225393
He's sworn to Sigmund, who is in turn sworn to Grim. Chain of command.
>>
>>19225358
>>19225345

What kind of armour does Sigmun wear..
>>
>>19225405
I think we're using platemail with a fullhelm or halfhelm and mask.
>>
>>19225405
If I remember correctly, full plate. Although it's usually bent, torn and shredded to peices within minutes of an engagement
>>
So plate, but really tattered.
>>
>>19225416
>>19225420
>>19225429

Facial structure?, ı am assuming gaunt.
>>
>>19225457
Gaunt, lined, fuck ugly.
>>
>>19225457
>>19225461
Maybe once attractive but after so much abuse its a mess.
>>
>>19225457
Don't forget the steel mask he wears to cover up the deformed half of his face
>>
>>19225461
>>19225471
>>19225478

Also, while i draw, you guys should pick a theme music for our hero.
>>
>>19225578
Awesome idea, thats going to be difficult though.
>>
rolled 15 = 15

>>19225578
>>19225595
You all know god damn well that Sigmund can only march to war themes.

>>
>>19225602

Too heroic. We need something more grimdark.
>>
rolled 19 = 19

>>19225627
Grimdark you say?

>>
>>19225627
As much as I like it I'm going to have to agree. Although Sigmund might like to be a hero, he is so damn unlucky and deformed that it will never happen....Jensen on the other hand...

Haha very appropriate.

Grim anyone?
>>
>>19225803
It has the right feel of epic and the dark side mixed in, I think.
>>
So Jensen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9DO1U1U5Rc and

Sigmund: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIGFKrvBpZ8

?
>>
>>19225836
I agree totally
>>
>>19225816
Not quite, but close.
Maybe Grim's librarian.
Speaking of which, I hope he has one.
>>
>>19225853
Closest thing to the reaper I had in my folder

Wrong, if we're doing this, it's gotta be Pratchett's, a being of power who speaks right into the mind and gets somewhat interested in human affairs. And this one has and air of regalty.
>>
Going to sleep now. Will finish the artwork and post it at next thread if i can catch it. See you later bros.
