Posting nongent's event tables from the last thread.

see areas 1-3
----------------------------------
the winters were hard, and survival came at a crushing cost while life was cheap. the evolutions that came were ungraceful, but functional. Ask anything from the central continent, winter has no mercy, and only the unfettered survive.
---------------roll a 2d6, and if you already have that trait, make it more pronounced. if you get two of the same roll, go up one, if its 6, it rotates back to 1.
animals
1-blubber layer- get fat, stay warm.
2-dense fur- get fuzzy, stay warm
3-big claws- good for climbing, good for killing
4-hammer like appendages- develop hands or feet, etc, whole new thing, or even a head into something to crush something else with. its good for getting the marrow out of bones, fighting rivals, or breaking ice to seek shelter or prey.
5-wide feet- dont sink in the snow
6-migration- fuck this place, its cold and im leaving. adapt to your new local. roll a 1d14 to see where you land and change accordingly.
--------------------
plants roll a 2d6, same rules apply.
1-fuzz and spiky vines- yes, plants get fuzz. you have it now, and spiky vines as fuzz is lame.
2-poison sap- fuck you dont eat me. or spend time evolving to do so ass face.
3-yam like storage of nutrients (Get bloated)
4-carniverous- fuck it. its time to eat them back.
5-thermogenic- your plant emits heat. fuck the cold. you make your own water from ice. try not to overheat and spontaneously com bust.
6-mobility- lets go for a walk, crawl, flight, burrow.

areas 8, 9, 10. see prior post.
----------------------------------
volcanic eruptions, seasonal or worse ash rain, toxic smog, heavy metals in the soil. fault lines and earthquakes, mudslides. ground hot enough to roast flesh at times from the subterranean lava flows. boiling rivers and explosive release of steam from pressurized aquifers. yep. this place is a little toasty, and you live here. life carries on.
----------------------------
animals 1d6
-----------------
1-long legs- keeps your torso away from the heat
2-thick leathery skin- i cant feel the burning anyway.
3-rock like armor- falling lava rocks? i give no fucks.
4-thermophile- adapt to feed off of the volcanic nutrients and survive in the worst possible areas
5-acid blood- this is just...fucking awesome, whose gonna eat you when it kills em?
6-metallic structures- take notes from the ramel, metallic bones and horns are the way to go. now you got em too from your rich volcanic diet.
-----------------------
plants
1-flame resistance, you dont burn so easily, but you are charred.
2-explosive nature- you explode when conditions are right, it proliferates your kind ,either by seeds, or shards of yourself. and it protects the others via your sacrifice
3-limited awareness- you seem to know whats going on
4- rock hard bark- just like rock hard armor
5-extensive root network- you grow clones of yourself from these roots
6- spores- spores are an efficient way to spread yourself. and your horrible plans. just ask central continent.

Forgot to correct the dice required. Always 2d6.

Its a lush, often swampy world we live in. lets see what happens as i try to make a third table
---------------------
animals 2d6
1-machette appendages- hack thru vegetation, hack thru meat. its all good.
2-sensory package- electro sensitivity, IR/ Low-light sensitivity, and echolocation-you don't see in the traditional sense anymore, but the collection of senses lets you see clearer then ever before. you loose your eyes.
3-bioluminesance-fuck this shit is cool, and the endless maze-forests are dark. this could be useful ya know?
4-tentacles or trunks, however you want to call it- they are mobile, dexterous and very useful. just ask the skulks. now you can have a few too. max is 3, minimum is one. can replace an existing appendage.
5-chitenous shell- if you've already got one, it just got bigger.
6-a step towards form- become more refined of form, take a step towards sentience, not of the mind, but of the body. gain thumbs.
---------------------------------------------------
plants
2d6
1-oxygen breathing- screw the others, you can breath too. develop lung like sacks, this fuels your growth as you are now using carbon dioxide as well as 02.
2-photosensativity- you react strongly to light. perhaps even moving towards it
3-giant growth- get huge
4-spikes- keeping assholes from eating you
5-vines- grow them, become a twisting maze or wrap around other plants.
6-lemuy infection- it seems the LemUy micro colonies have chosen to make your plant a host. prepare for rapid and horrific changes. (start making moves towards animal like awareness and mobility, as well as a twisting of form.)

Fucking finally I was able to make this. I doubt that I can make many other updates for the boomers, so hopefully other people besides me an no trip will aslo start rolling for them.

Anyways, the running boomers of the burning plains diverge into a sub species that is even more adapted to that environment.

This splinter species has longer legs, that allow it to keep it's gas filled body far away from the flames. They can skitter over avarage wildfires, due to their thicker skin on their legs.

They have also adapted to feed on more charred plants, allowing them to feed on plant matter that other herbivores ignore.

Wooly Boomers!
They have grown a shaggier coat of fur, but it doesn't shed it completely for the summer anymore. Their front limbs have become much stronger and are used for breaking ice to reach water to drink. Also, elephant big. Unfortunately for predators, mostly hot air.
>okay, hot methane.

I must say that their pseudo body heat is pretty interesting.
>>
>>19224426

Keep up the good work! Seriously, as my drawing opportunities are severely impared right now, it's really a blessing that you are willing to work on the boomers.

In case any of you guys have questions about the boomers, or other critters, feel free to ask.

Also:
>no one apparently noticed my little refrence critter I made back in the earlier thread.
It aint very blatant though, unlike the goddam hydralisks I came up with. It seems that I can be subtle after all. Or I just suck at making refrence critters that don't rub it to your faces.

Some of the Frilla Boomers have become better adapted to living in the tall trees. Their abdomens have become a sort of natural hang glider, and webbing has formed between their legs to offer control while soaring between trees. They have also built up a tolerance to the Frillas' toxins.

>>19224636
Their abdomens are taken up mostly by a sac filled with a volatile lighter than air gas (I assume methane. Maybe hydrogen), partial skeleton made of cartilage, dispersed nervous system, generally are herbivores, and a habit of detonating upon death. Am I missing anything?
>>
>>19225401

Nope, you pretty much covered it all. In general, many oof the biological aspecs o fthe hoppas can be applied to the boomers, with the exception of the pheromones.

The hoppas and boomers share a common ancestor, the hoppas started to develop more advanced skeletal system, while the boomers continued to rely on their gas bladder for support. In the western continent, the hoppas proved to be more succesfull, but this continent seems to have given the boomers a second change in glory.

The beak of the Flying Noord becomes a hard chisel for breaking through ice and wood. They'll now peck holes into trees to get to bugs hibernating inside.

The diet of the Termite Ngung is Jungle Azrach heartwood. They make nests in the trunks of trees and eat away at it from the inside. Important areas such as the queen's and egg chambers are located near the bottom of the nest. This is so that when the tree becomes unstable from being eaten, the chambers and their contents aren't lost when parts of the tree collapse. When the tree is nearly gone, a young queen is sent off with a few workers and royal guard to set up a new nest.

>>19234223

In the harsh struggle of survival in the dark and damp central marshes, a new predatory splinter species of the swamp boomers emerges.
These boomers have adapted to the low light conditions of the central marshes, by developing Infrared sensitive eyes, which allow them to better track suitable prey. Unfortunately, these new eyes are vulnerable to direct sunlight, which confines these species to the perpertual darkness of the central marsh, and forces them to move in the other parts of the great azrach forest during the night.

These carnivorous boomers hunt smaller critters, their swamp boomer bretheren, govinks and keerbs. Their strong and sharp fangs allow them to make short work out of their prey.
The predatory boomers hunt by outmanouvering their prey, using the speed and agility that all the swamp boomers posses to get the kill.

to call it an earthquake would have been inaccurate. an earthquake triggered it, but a sinkhole type event was what really took place. A particularly savage earth quake shook the region, the usual occurred. Landslides, mudslides, fault lines opened, floods, fires, and death. what wasn't usual was a deep cavern system that had sat undisturbed since before frilla were tall became unstable, in a chain reaction it caved in. what was inside was a relic from a bygone era.
------------------
too many years to count ago, a meteorite fell and brought to the world spores, the spores were already genetically damaged from cosmic radiation and their genome warped. they became the LemUy, the lemuy became the lem. A firestorm that engulfed the world killed the LemUy, and their magnificent spores. But of the asteroid? buried so deep, where did it go? it fell into the underground cavern system, there the spores proliferated, they created an ecosystem like one could not imagine, but over time that ecosystem had to eat itself to survive, and that cycle happened many times. what was left was simple single cell organisms with the occasional virus like tendencies, each baring fragments of the original lemuy spore genetic code. things were looking bleak until the collapse of the cavern system. they are freed into the environment, and the consequences are unknown.
>>
here are a few consequences of this:
the southern tip of the region is now quite fragmented, the coastal regions are salt marsh. Volcanic areas have increased in activity for the time being. a great rent in the land can be seen in the middle of the continent. It goes deep, and is currently lined with a thick mold like crust of degenerated lemuy micro life forms and virus like constructs. this is seeping into the environment and being destroyed at an alarming rate as well. the Land will reclaim the "rent" in time, though the scar will remain. for now, it is a giant biological light, glowing eerily constantly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
volcanic species- roll another 2d6. you may go against any table available, this reflects the extreme need for change in your region.
-----
skulkcrows- the amount of dead left from the natural disasters provides ample construction material for more of your race. be cautions, the lemuy genetic material now floating in the air may cause your species unique variation of the lemuy infection to spread, accelerate or mutuate in your body.

evo table incoming
>>
>>19234578
In the fixed version which I'll post later, I split them from the basic. For the additional hoppas, I think you posted the split for everything except the marsh species. Had to paste thumbnails for some.
It's 4:30, I should get to sleep.
>>

Go to sleep good man!
You have done plently for today.
I love the boomer variants of yours and your fus evotree is top notch.

>>19234640
>>19234687

Where are you planning to go with this?
Do I need to alter the biome map of mine to suit this?
>>
the lemuy "microbes" a good enough word for them, are fragile in their own way. They do not do well in salt water, they do not do well in extreme heat, or cold. these microbes will be infecting everything they can now, but you have the option, as always, to not roll, we can assume your creature is then immune.
----------------------------
volcanic, mountain, tundra, ashland- roll a 1d13, costal, forest, 2d13, all others, 3d13, this represents how well the microbes thrive in a given environment.you have the option of adding an extra dice to your roll for an additional "infection" if you so wish. if anything is a duplicate, pick the next one up, if you are at the top of the tree, go to the bottom.
-------
>>
>>19234687
hmm, maybe base the tables off the traits the LemUy (or variants/descendants of them) has. Like, bioluminescence, 'berserk' gene (Lem), the ability to breathe (insert gas here) and emit oxygen, etc.
>>
animal
1- gaint third eye configuration.
2- gain adhesive pads on feet and hands
3- gain body wide bio luminescence
4- gain glowing lure/ communication device (Think angler fish)
5- gain spores, may reproduce this way, may emit them as a form of poisonous defense, or anything else you can imagine as long as its not a game breaker.
6- develop secondary nervous system, gain berserker like tendencies - twitch faster, move quicker, be harder to break or knock out.
7- develop secondary cardiac/ pulmonary system. harder to kill, heartier creature. double your lifespan.
8-whatever passes for blood in your creature becomes thick slow moving cytoplasm loaded with lem microbes that have taken over for the bodies oxygen transports and nervous system. again, harder to kill or bleed out. your blood just wants to stay in you now...though that occasional involuntary movement is creepy.
9- thick membrane over parts of the body like a bacterial cell wall. its like really fucked up armor.
10- develop sharp shearing claws on your appendages for tending to plants. develop a symbiotic relationship with a plant species.
11- grow a mouth full of sharp teeth. you like flesh now.
12- grow enchanced musculature and minimize fat, your gonna get ripped. strongest survive
13- gain photosynthesis- this one is pretty amazing if you think about it, you produce waste c02. now you use sunlight and turn that into energy as well. hold your breath longer, eat less, travel further. endurance for days.
----------------------
plants- this is unique for you guys, when you roll, you get what you landed on, and every perk numerically below it.
1-gain spores, 2-gain mobility, 3-gain limited sentience (animal like level), 4-bioluminesane, 5- gain simple digestive track, use it how you see fit. 6- roll a 1d13 and pick something from the animal chart.
>>
>>19234833

What forest?
The frilla, jungles or the great azrach forest?
>>
>>19234881
just frilla. frilla make spores. their spores will have a conflict with the lemuy microbes. sorry, its late and im pretty worn out and i have missed a few details
>>
nad, no need to make a new landscape. unless you want to include gorges into it, but i dont want you to have to do extra work. also the gorge/ rift is thru multiple enviros and is more of a landscape feature then anything. with that said, if its fun for you, go for it. i would imagine it as a deep valley with glowing plantlife, all of it small, a dense coating of moss/ mold like substance on the ground and walls. small fern like things sprouting up from it, and the air would be be choked with spores and particles, with a thick "spore" fog clinging to the ground. humid and wet too..possible strings of bioluminescent mucus too. i leave its fate in your hands. i must sleep.
>>
>>19234995

No worries man.
It's a shame really that I can't rreally draw that much right now, so I can't properly participate to this update. Not to mention that there are still many species that haven't bee nupdated to the previous roll chart.

I kinda agree.
I personally prefer to adapt critters to environments, though the roll charts do sometimes offer some interesting curveballs, that really mix things up, which makes me more often than not to roll in too.
Though I usually make the new altered species splinter ones, which ads to the complexity of the world.

For example, the predatory swamp boomers are a result of a roll. I made them fill a niche that was currently unfulfilled in the swamps, that is the wolf like pack hunter creatures.
The sickle slizers/higitains are big solitary hunters, the govkar are opportunistic scavenger, the skulks I see as territrial hunters, the ngung are stalking ambush hunters and the water govinks are water based ambush hunters. Because of the predatory swamp boomers there is now one less nihche unfilled in the swamps.

Oh I know them, and it's actually not typesetting, it's derived from the older system of heraldry. Silver (represented by white) and Gold (represented by yellow) were the two metals, and an old rule said no metal on metal, as the two colours blend together when viewed from far away on a battlefield, making identification (heraldry's primary purpose) that much more difficult.

Whew... Ok, hard to come up with something for double double nervous system so heres what I came up with:

The Coastal Roha adapted to the mutation in an unusual way. Their brains already very large, were spun into overdrive. Their nervous systems became so intricate they can think and react faster than their bodies could respond. This creates an almost slow motion effect for the creatures. As such, they adapt to become ambush predators, akin to crocodiles. Waiting in the shallows and then bursting out lightning fast with tentacles to ensnare their prey and draw them to waiting beaks. Their shells change to adapt to this, and their myriad of tentacles adapt to make them capable of extraordinary bursts of speed and strength on land and in water.

Many boomer species for example, are yet to be brought up to the earlier roll tables, though in case you don't feel like rolling for them, you are free to develop them in other ways as well.

Really, just pick a species and start developing it. I would myself, but as I have already numerous times stated, I am quite unable to draw.

In case of the boomers, the ones that haven't been uprgraded to the first roll tables of this thread >>19222642>>19222721>>19222747,
are the cave boomers, mountain boomers, normal walking boomers, frilla forest boomers and the jungle boomers.

I am not saying however that you should focus on the boomers, you are free to develoip any critter you please. I usually create splinter species based on the rolls, instaed of applying them to the whole species, but that's just my way of doing things.

Jungle Skulks become stronger. Their hearty genes make them faster and more powerful than their swampy brethren. Their blood becomes thick like sap, and even crawls back inside them. Due to their strength, skulks survive much longer, so it isnt uncommon to see them covered in healed over scars from battles with other skulks and predators. Their tendril fingers also harden into razor sharp claws, which makes it easier to climb and kill prey.
>>
>>19235750
That wasnt my plan, no, but now that you mention it, the resemblance is uncanny :)

Perhaps we shall call them Giga Roha from now on?

Also, since the lure tree developed spores, thats not really something that needs an art update. So just a lore one instead. Since the jungle skulk become longer lived now, and harder to kill, the trees need new ways to pollinate. As such when their flowery tops bloom, they shoot out thousands of spores that spread their seeds through the jungle. Of course, most don't find a place to grow, but a few find homes and thrive. Unfortunately for everything in the jungle, this makes these carnivorous trees far more prevalent and it starts to push out some of the other native species of plant life and become more of a hazard for all species, great and small.

Well, they do have a somewhat spiky underbelly, like a lobster... so its close... but they couldnt use it really, so it'd be just for show. For now, they're content to be pissed off, crocodile/snapper squid monsters from hell. Oh, and they are almost sentient intelligence levels too, so fear them.

That orange bar on their head is their bio-luminescent blinker that lets them talk to other members of their species, although these guys are kinda monstrocities compared to their old Hive roha kin... perhaps they have become too far removed now, and have to start their own unique lifestyle now, away from the Roha Colonies.

D'oh, and entirely coincidentally, your picture reminded me of one last feature that the coastal roha picture hadn't incorporated so I forgot to add to mine. The deep curve roha had spiky claws on the ends of their tendrils which allowed them to pierce the shells of more powerful critters. So... I have re-added them back to the Giga Rohas.

Anon, let me tell you something. I've been drawing as long as I can remember, and I have memories going back to age 4, so that's saying something.

So, for the sake of this example, let's assume I started at age 4, it may have been earlier, but that's not important here. I am now 21 years old. I have drawn *at least* once or twice a day, EVERY DAY of my life. That's 6,209 (rounding down) pictures at the absolute minimum, and there have been plenty of days where I've done far more.

Why am I dropping these numbers? To say this: I was not BORN with the skill I have. I worked at it, true it was easier, because I find drawing enjoyable and relaxing, so such "practice" didn't feel like "work". The only reason I'm *any* good at all is because of practice. Practice, practice, practice. I genuinely believe anyone can become good at this stuff, given enough time and effort.

Basically, don't despair. I have no special "artist gene" nor did I drink some magic potion. Only practice and repetition, in other words, there's nothing stopping you from being just as good.

Sorry for the wall of text, I just figured it needed to be said, for any Anons who feel like their work isn't "good enough".

Also the chemicals inside the Bagr have become more fierce as when they burn they burn with such heat that they can melt many substances, think of it much like thermite.

With increased volcanic activity the survival of Bagr was reliant on working with others. This increased the size of normal Bagr pack.

Also, an evolution for them.

The glands at the sides of the gliding boomers, that like in their ancestors, served to vent the noxious and reactive gasses and liquids of their insides and form a caustic cloud around the boomer that deterred predators have undergone an adaption.
These vents are more like slits now, from which the boomers release a mixture of gasses and liquids that when mixed with air, react with explosive fashion, giving the gliding boomer some extra speed, although it can't steer it's flight as well during this turbo boost.

Stalker ngung develop sharp, movable claws in the rips of their legs that allow them to grip firmly to their prey.

Over time, they have also developed sexual dimorphism. The males have more elaborate horns, which they use to combat each other for territory, while the female horn is smaller with sharper edge, useful for defending itself and it's young from predators.

The males try to claim good, dense hunting areas of the canopy and attract females to it, so that they could mate.
The females use their sharp horn and fangs to carve a hole to the azrach trunk, in which it makes a web nest that houses it's young.
They fiercely defend these nests until the eggs hach, after which the young disperce to the forest.
>>
>>19237934

Actually, I am not sure if the skullcrows live in the marshes proper. They prefer the drier regions. That doesn't make the swamps any less terrifying.
Let's count all the nightmare fuel critters living there shall we?
>Big, armored centipedes from hell with blade arms.
>Transculent floating jellyfishes with deadly hair thin tentacles full of neurotoxins.
>Fast, long tentacled predators with pack tactics and infrared sight.
>Waters are filled with countless leech like parasites.
>Flying bugs who vomit eggs inside you.
>Armored spider/beetles the size of your face with long poison fangs, who stalk you before pouncing you and plunging their fangs to your neck and suck you dry, leaving your dead webbed up body to hang from the canopy.
>Dryad like cunningly intelligent plant hunters who are allied with big ass carnivorous trees.
>Large, water based ambus predators with huge claws.

I am sure that I forgot something.
The swamps are pretty nope worthy, and it doesn't help that the thick canopy lets very little light through, resulting in perpertual twilight, which is only luminated by the occasional patches of bioluminicent fungi, or glowing bugs, not to mention that there is no dry land particularly anywhere.

Those which did survive had even a slight edge on their parents. Where the beak meets the rest of the face, three feathers have grown a large clear feather.. At the base, they have a small luminescent organ. The feather carries light very well, acting as if it were fiberoptics.

A splinter species of the long legged boomers emerges.
The ancestors of these stilt boomers were infected with the lemuy spores, which caused certain mutations in their spawn, such as darker coloration, longer fangs and extra bioluminiscence in the tips of their tentacles, which caused them to become somewhat shunned from the rest of the long legged boomers.

Eventually, due of being unable to mix between the normal boomers, these stilt boomers became a new species.
They are predatory ambushers who hunt during the night. They use the bioluminiscent tips at the ends of their sensory tentacles to emulate the movements of lightbut ngung, which attracts smaller creatures such as joords to them. Their dark coloration and tall posture allow them to stay unnoticed by the approaching creature fixated on the pretty dancing lights indicating potential snack.

When the prey is close enough, the stilt boomer activates it's head lamps, which can easily blind and shock the prey for a moment. The boomers use this moment to lunge at their prey, ripping them apart with their long and sharp fangs. In case the prey tries to flee or fight back, the muscular legs of the stilt boomers allow it to easily catch and pummel the prey to death.

The stilt boomers less social than their ancestors, though they often stay within the seeing distance of each other, using their bioluminiscence to communicate.
They have started to spread to other biomes as well, the coast, southern marshes, ashlands and frilla forests are all quite suitable habitats for them.

Over time, the govkar have learned to make nests in the upper parts of the azrach tree, in the part of the trunk where the main branches diverge. In these relatively safe spots, the govkar build nests woven from azrach bark strips and ngung webs. They are haphazard but safer than sleeping in the open, as now atleast the dumbest of the predators won't notice them as easily. These nests allow the govkar to raise their young in relative peace from the hated other species living in the marsh.
Their head tentacles have also strenghtened and grown more dexterous.

The govkar have finally started to teach simple things to their offsprings. Because of this, the new govkar generations don't as often repeat the mistakes of their parents when trying to learn about the marshes. Truly, the ammount of govkars killed by furious sickle slizers with eyo wounds has dropped to all time low.
>>
>>19239948

In human terms, the govkar seem to be insanely curious, from our perspective, resembling children with ADHD. Though from closer inspection, it is clear that they lack a certain amount of logical thinking that we take for granted. This is because from their perspective, the marshes make very little sense. They don't understand why some of their bretheren are suddenly killed by seemingly invisible strings and then dragged to the canopy, they can't comprehend how the wounded looking plant which is suddenly alive again, dragging them towards a giant nefarious looking tree with glee, the fallen azrach branch that suddenly turned into a ravenous govink and killed one of their mates is just another non sensical occurance, the uncanny prescicion in which the hunter boomers track them is beyond their comprehension, the hunters that never returned being found hanging from the canopy shrivelled is just one of the mysteries of this infernal swamp.
Why try to make sense of anything, when it bloody doesn't make sense?
The govkar, although curious and capable of learning extremely fast, don't think logically at all, because they don't understand the marshes they live in. In their mind, stuff just happens, and it is all the fault of this cursed marsh.
>>
>>19239959

Their habbit of teaching the stuff they have learned to their children and others has started to create some sort of frame work about the marshes for them however. They know that being close to water is dangerous, because of the branch mosters living there, they know that the tree hairs will get them if they walk too upright and proud in more open areas, they know that the bad boomers are vengefull spirits of the boomers they kill without properly respecting the creature, they know that the plant whiches never die, unless you take their head off, they know that when the small web spinners hang their comrades to the canopy, the brood is taking too much off their webs for the nests.

Their superstiscious beliefs make sense to them, and work as semi succesfull method of teaching their children to survive the marshes better. They aren't tribal or tool using jet, but they have started developing extremely primitive vocal traditions.
>>

And now, in a food shortage, some of the more curious govkars attempted to eat the strange glowing stuff that had appeared everywhere after the great shake.

The spores from beneath the ground have heavily infected some of the Swamp Skulk. Coming from mutated spores themselves, these ones had a major effect on the Skulks' genetic structure: patching errors caused by the Black Dawn. More of their body structure becomes cell-like with an increase of cytoplasmic fluids, along with the reforming of some spore producing organs. Whether these spores can mature is yet to be seen, as they do not produce the plant part of a Skulk. Because of this, they must still return to the Venus Trees in order to reproduce.
A mutation also arose in the plants that still make up most of their bodies. Their tentacle vines have gained glowing tips to lure in prey.
Due to bearing some more resemblance to their ancestors, this branch'll be called LemUy Skulk.

the earth cracks with a deafening roar and a jolt of tectonic force strong enough to sway a frilla. a strange, glowing fog envelops the land for just a moment.

in the fallout of the earthbreak, some skulcrow who were particularly close to the epicenter were almost entirely disintegrated. their twisted microbes intermingled with the archaic lemUy from the rift. the creatures not reeling from the blast witnessed a horrifying sight: after exploding only a moment before, many Skulcrow were descended upon by a strange purple-tinged mist. their bodies refilled, they were able to simply walk away their own accord.

these Skulcrows were changed irrevocably. they shambled through the plains with methodical aim, gathering corpses for their bouquets all the while.

some would be incinerated in the coming fires, but others sought out dying tree-plants within undisturbed copses to make their home. their strengthened lem made assimilating into their new bodies quite easy.

the Hollowborn Skulcrow rest, learning to use their massive, sedentary bodies with brutal efficiency, their lem churning all the while.

The act of eating the glowing stuff was forgotten eventually, as nothing very significant happened then and everything went on as usual.
After some time had passed however, the offspring of the ones who had eaten the lemuy filled glowly goop beared strange mutations. Large, bulbous eye in the middle of their head, their hair tentacles bright green from photosensitive cells. There could be only one reason for these glaring mutations! Clearly, the plant whiches had possessed these children! Many of them were put to death, but those who survived fled to the skulks, who they now sincerely believed to be their kin.
This mutation is still within the genome of the govkar, but it surfaces rarely and unexpectedly. The lemuy didn't exctly infect the govkar, but they somehow altered their dna. The genes that cause these changes seem to be partly heredary, but their activation seems to be quite random, perhaps heavily based from the feedback received from the environment.
These mutants only surface occasionally, and they are more often than not killed if found.
The govkar now have increased enmity towards the skulks, which they believe to be cause of many of the problems the govkar face.

I'll leave it for NG to descide what the skulks do with the govkar who seek them out.
>>
>>19240619
The modified swamp govkar are not immediately killed by the skulks, who sense a similarity inside them. This makes them not the same, but not different either. After as much consideration as a skulk can do, the consensus was that they were the same, but different, as opposed to different. Observations led them to this conclusion, as the lemuy modified govkar also tended plants, enjoyed light when it was available, and bled similarly. This also caused some concern amongst the skulks who hunted and killed the govkar on occasion. If govkar produce these individuals, who are part of what they are, are the govkar the trees and these children the seeds? Could they just not see what they were as a whole? Each time a govkar child is found escaped or abandoned with the plantlike traits attacks taper off for a while, this leads to a culture shift of the govkar "abandoning" their infected children in the swamps, as a peace offering to the Skulk. In time, attacks may stop altogether.
---------------
Nad: where you take this is up to you, though since the govkar we have seen so far that exhibit the traits are not full adults i would be curious to see if in time there are color variations, or an increased number of head tentacles, etc. what their relationship with the skulks becomes. If the normal govkar begin to exhibit these traits as well, or there is an uneasy peace.

The Lemuy Infection becomes more of a Lemuy Cohabitation within the Jungle Skulks. They start to form places on their bodies where the Lemuy cells can congregate and slowly filter them into the plant life around them through special pores in their feet, gradually effecting all sorts of wildlife with that faintly bioluminescent glow. The jungles become a little brighter, and while the lemuy themselves glow as a part of this, it does not hinder them because the areas they hunt now also glow, so it becomes more of a camouflage.

kreeub- what was once harmless is now a little crab like piranha. it wants nothing more then to strip the flesh from your bones, and they move in swarms. however to more armored creatures their tiny teeth pose no threat, and they are good eating.

willoboomer- A tough rubber membrane grows over the back of the boomer protecting a otherwise vital part of its body. This extra layer of protection also allows the boomer to reach impressive internal pressures, to the point where it can liquify gasses inside its body and later spray them out at predators and prey.

lion ngung- noting much has changed about it, other then that it can now spray blinding spores with its web. interestingly enough they hunt the kreeub. not so interestingly they are not often successful.

Slashers- Exposure to the Lemuy infection has changed their species forever. They are much more resilient thanks to a back up heart and lung system, as well as a thick unfeeling skin. Their carnivorous tendencies have been magnified and they are always on the hunt for food, though they fall prey to govkar frequently, as well as skulcrows. Finally to track thru the dark they have a built in biological lantern, this will "burn" up to a month after its been removed from a slasher if placed in moist dirt, so govkars will occasionally use them as lanterns or a method to illuminate their home and more.

Love the details you've added to them, It adds so much character to them. The Slasher-lantern is an especially cool touch.
For whatever reason, I'm imagining kreeub taste like potato chips.

i continue to like where this is going, i hope to see even more radical changes, as this thread ends, i expect that there will likely be 3 types of skulk, excluding the skulcrow. the jungle skulk, the swamp skulk and the baseline "fem" skulk. as it stands now, all 3 skulks still return to the tree at the end of their life, but one of them less frequently...we might as well start preparing for tribal. stories. background. habbits. etc. if there is a species you want uplifted so you can play it in tribal, now is the time to start moving it towards sentience.

>>
I don't think the Giga Rohas should participate in this continent's tribal stage, but I think they will head back to the Hive Roha colony and since their nervous systems are so super tuned up, they will act as kinda the masterminds behind the scenes and help the Roha move up to sentience. But, under the sea, they will not really have to interact with other races right away. So we can tuck them away til later perhaps.

>>
>>19244572
The skulks of all sorts could easily approach sentience together. You'd basically have different 'races' of them but they all kinda are the same thing effectively. If they all were uplifted together, it would allow for some different cultural aspects amongst them, as well as making the horror of the skulcrows that much more prevalent.

Jungle Skulks - Guardians of the Jungle, Bioluminescent Paradise creators.

Swamp/Lemuy Skulks - More in harmony with their Lure Trees and the Lemuy. Hiding in the depths of the swamp, kinda more mysterious and sinister but could develop mythology behind them akin to fey.

Normal 'fem' skulks - Symbiotic Relationship with the Govkar, Maybe more of a nomadic feel to them? I dunno, I kinda stuck with the Jungle ones as my babies
>>
>>19244572
Oh, and also, the Giga Rohas that stay behind and feast on prey on the coast eventually adapt to become able to survive in brackish water, enabling them to travel inland over time, and they become more like dolphin+ smart crocodiles, forever making the waters of this continent unsafe for long term interaction (relatively)

Skulcrow fluff #1:

Spires:
in general, two varieties of spires have been observed in use by Skulcrows: organic wooden spires, often constructed from tapascu plants and their derivatives, and lemUy spires generated by solidifying the microbes in their bodies (in about 30% of Skulcrows, at least one spire adorns their body). the lemUy spires are much more efficient, requiring no additional expenditure of their microbial blood due to the medium of the spire's construction.

Aging:
Skulcrows age strangely, to say the least. their bodies are unliving, and therefore will only "die" when destroyed by an external force or when they decompose due to bodily rot. individuals showing slightly more intellect will occasionally rip off old pieces of their bodies in exchange for fresher segments. it is not uncommon to see Skulcrow "sheddings" such as arms or ribcages scuttling aimlessly about. the "brain" and sensory structures of the creature is contained in the corrupted lem microbes that flow through their bodies, such that separation and subsequent rebuilding can create "cloned" individuals who share memories and mannerisms.

Skulcrow Fluff #2:

The Hollowborn:
Hollowborn Skulcrows, possessing of the ancient lemUy and corrupted lem microbes, are considerably more intelligent than their lesser brethren. the ancient lemUy have granted the Hollowborn a strange ability. if they were possessing of language, they might call it the All-Thought, as it allows the Hollowborn to transfer not specific thoughts per se, but general emotional dispositions to the members of their Rattle. the lemUy has also considerably slowed the decay of their bodies, as some Hollowborn are said to have seen millions of sunsets.

Social Structure:
following the birth of the Hollowborn, Skulcrows have adopted a social structure similar to that of wolves. the immobile Hollowborn acts as alpha to a Rattle of mobile Skulcrows, instructing them through the All-Thought on their objectives. the most common disposition relayed is greed.

Communication:
the Hollowborn send empathic dispositions to their Rattle, causing certain desires or reactions within their rank. this doesn't as much mean "go hunting for Skulks" as it does "you want to kill something." normal Skulcrows communicate through only rudimentary means, usually rattling their carapaces as an alarm call, or scraping their claws as a threat display.

File: 1338009912917.png-(169 KB, 1604x1650, Jungle Skulk.png)
169 KB
The jungle skulk's production of LemUy becomes so powerful, that aside from shifting the rainforests/jungles into bioluminescent paradises, they begin to store up the excess energy within them. These cores act as last ditch power and food for the Skulk if it is ever unable to get prey, or has to take a long journey. When the pods get too full, they ripen and become basically a fruit that they pull from their bodies and acts as an incubator of sorts for their offspring. When this pod is almost ready to ripen, a second one begins forming and moves up to take its place.

With this new overflowing power, the Jungle skulks begin to find it much easier to travel great distances, and explore the continent as a whole, through inhospitable climates and terrain. Their rugged, muscular bodies and nearly infinite power stores allowing them to make the trips with no problem. Some of the Jungle Skulks even find themselves reunited with older tribes of Skulks/Swamp Skulks, who may or may not take kindly to them, although the Jungle Skulks are not immediately hostile towards them.
>>
>>19244428
i'd probably remove the Skulcrow from that list.
i'm definitely going to participate in the tribal thread, and it's very possible that the Skulcrow will reach something similar to sentience not too far off, but i think they're just better as "others." they just seem more suited to be the intelligent, pack-oriented creatures that lurk in the shadows rather than the civilized sort.
>>
>>19244677
that one line isnpired me and made me think of this for the skulcrows...
(written from the perspective of a skulk)

Where they came from we don't know. Always, they have been here. From our earliest days, they hid in our shadows, watching... waiting? Waiting for what? For us to drop our guard, that they may carry us off into the night, to make a meal of us like so many other beasts? No, there's something else in their eyes. The eyes are dead, no "life" is ever seen in them, but there's a patient, ancient... thought beneath their lids.

Always they have been here. Collecting our refuse, our dead, the dead of the swamps... but for what? Some dark ritual, are they of a mind like unto our own that they worship and call out to the spirits?

They are ancient, have no doubt of this, for they have perhaps been here longer than we have, demons of a failed world, perhaps, longing for a lost paradise that we unknowingly usurped.

What do they even look like? No brave or squaw can tell you, for to face them is to commend you soul to the Beyond. But on dark nights, there are those who whisper that they are naught but piecemeal marionettes, crafted together out of various materials like a child's kachina-doll. Skulls, bones, flesh, heartstring, hair, root, fiber, branch and twig... macabre and ramshackle horrors from outside of time.
Who knows what secrets they keep within the mists of their swamps? I don't know, nor am I one so curious that I desire to know at the risk of my life.

and because Im insane and just wanted to go for it. When the Jungle Skulks try to wander into the fire plains and volcanic regions out of curiosity or getting lost or whatever, the LemUy die out and the skulks themselves are forced to rely on their own internal powers to keep them going. This eventually causes them to feed on thermal energy and while short lived, their energy fruit go into crazy production.

The gliding boomers continue to evolve to their more aerial lifestyle. Their pincers slowly fade away, to a more gaping mouth able to catch swarms of flies and small animals that arent fast enough to escape. The whispy feelers shrink and fade into webbed claws which help them maneuver in the air better. And their antennae adapt to have small organs that are sensitive to air pressure, weather change, and the like, they also grow fins that help them move when turned into the wind or against it.

Doesn't wandering from wetter environments cause Skulks to slowly transform into Skulcrows?

One Creative Smartjoord finds out how to make more advanced tools from the combining of wood and stone. In this case, a spear which it uses in fending off some Aggressive Joords. Others see this and quickly pick it up, figuring out other similar tools such as hammers and axes.
>>
>>19245686

The boomers reproduce quite similarly to the hoppas, which is give birth to larval forms of themselves, which resemble their flouz ancestors. THat's the base reproductive method however. You are free to alter it to be more suited to the environment your critters live in. The tribal hoppas for example, give birth to few, much more developed young, that don't float away like they larvae of the other hoppas do.
The hoppas are also hermaphrodites, though again, this is the base form. They could have evolved defined genders along the way.

The proto hoppas split into two lineages, the boomers and the hoppas. The hoppas themselves then split into two sub groups, the tongued and the non tongued hoppas. The tongued hoppas are the dominant strain, as most of the different hoppa species descend from it.
There has been a similar split in the boomers, with the walking and the still crawling boomers.

These jungle skulks manage to stave off the typical transition because of their energy reserves. However, once they run out, the body basically ages super fast because of the loss of LemUy and overclocked metabolism and -then- they become Skulcrows. However, I could see a few of them managing to make it back to 'civilization' before this happens, and they live a while longer, but are unable to return to their original cycle, dying earlier, but basically when one does make it back, its a 'momentous' affair as all those energy fruit burst to life with dozens of new skulks.

Nad- when you see this, i must warn you, there will begin to be significant changes in the environment, due to the skulks, skulcrows, and lemuy presence. this continent is about to get a lot more similar to the old primordial world.
>>
>>19245989
I guess I kinda see it as an accidental coincidence that becomes a challenge of heroes sort of thing over time. Strong Jungle Skulks go out into the world on a journey, and the ones that end up in the firelands risk imminent death at the hands of the Bagr or Skulcrow as their lemUy die off in the heat. Those brave souls that do make it back are considered special and their offspring are favored in reproduction purposes.

If they die, they just are a source of superfood for their predators as well, as those energy fruit would be amazing to eat.
>>
>>19246048
I think that Skulks of all sorts will still occasionally have 'boobs' its just less prevalent in the Jungle species whose focus is on strength and power. The Swamp and Normal varieties still would very frequently have chest bumps. And, produce pheromones that simulate other life form's own mating pheromones, luring them in to be preyed upon. They are just less powerful than the Lure Tree's pheremones. Alternatively if someone wanted to go that way you could have something interesting happen when the Jungle Skulks run into the Fem skulks on their journeys. Perhaps some sort of crossbreeding develops and creates two distinct sexes?
>>
Phew, back home.
And after reviewing the thread, I find these two to be the tribals of the East Continent!

The Govkar, and the Creative Joords. I'd rename them into something shorter or easier, but let's see what you guys come up with for the Creative Joords!

As for the other tribal candidates, have no worries, because you can still evolve and specialize. With those close-to-tribal minds, these creatures may become the Top Predator of their biome, or at least, niche.

The old LemUy teddy bear ears? It just felt right giving them that trait. Just to say something about their spores, if they do manage to grow at all, they always end up dieing soon after. Also, waiting for the Lem to make it here for obvious reasons.

>>19246082

>>19246139
I think Normal and Swamp is a bit confusing, as normal Skulks are swamp dwellers. In my mind, it's Jungle, Swamp, LemUy. And last of the three still behaves much like the second.
>>
ive noticed the plants have not taken part in the evo table. please do if you want...ok what else. hmm. OH yeah! another world changing event
----------------------
It would seem the lemuy spores have found homes, and those homes seem to keep them alive. The world is starting to become more alive, like it was in eons past. In all swamp regions a thick, thick, fog about a inch deep clings to the ground like smoke. It is actually a dense carpet of lemuy spore activity. The bio luminescent moss as begun to become quite prevalent thanks to the tending and spreading of it by the skulks. Plants are operating at increased efficiency and growing slightly larger or more rapidly. this is increasing the amount of food for herbivores as well as carnivores.
----------
and little by little, it begins again.
>>
Regarding the mutated govkar, I must admit that it was not what Ihad planned.
The lemuy traits are resessive and pop up randomly, but at this point pretty much all the govkar carry at least parts of the genes that cause these traits to manifest.

I think that the relationship between the skulks and the govkar should be more of a cultural thing. Some groups fear and hate the plant witches and mercilessly kill the young bearing the curced traits, while others fear, hate but also respect the skulks for their deadlines, thinking that by giving the mutant children as offerings to the skulks, the plant witches will leave them alone.

A look ahead... I want these guys to be Polynesian bro-barians. Big, strong, jovial, and take joy in the simple things in life, food, friends, and brawls. They are Big Kahunas, through and through.

Only problem, is of course, that they're livin' in the swamp. What could I use to justify their Hawaiian/Polynesian elements, despite not being near the ocean?

Last, WTF is with the Lemuy spores? What are they and what do they do? They seem to be a big deal but I haven't been following along closely enough to catch just why.
>>
>>19246731
in respect to your concerns about the big kahuna vibe. dude, just do it. the way your tribe acts doesnt have to be based on anything. once you have your theme go with and evolve it. music, stories, culture, tools.hell, they can migrate if you want. if someone else also takes the slashers, they may have a completely different vibe.
----
as for lemuy spores, this traces back to the beginings of this game http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/18469745/ look at this thread, and ctrl+f search for all things regarding lemuy.

but the long story short is the lemuy are from space. they are a reference to the YuMel of Aether's moon game. they arent the same, just a nod to my previous monster. the LemUy are...lets see...helpful. they are also tragic. they improve. its in their nature. they tend to the environment, they clean the parasites off creatures, the take care of the plants, they actually make oxygen instead of co2. they cross a line where plants and animals blur. they release spores that go thru a complicated branching tree, where if they get far enough they make more lemuy, but they usually reproduce by division. the spores cloud the air, make glowing moss thats good for herbivores and rich in nutrients. it was a golden era. the lemuy spores floated high in the atmosphere clinging to the clouds, so at night there was a perpetual glow of cloud cover, the ground had a thin but very dense mist of spores clinging to it, and life was good. but then paradise burned. you see...the worlds oxygen content rose to 80%, and black dawn happened. you can search for black dawn as well.

>>
Although I have previously expressed concerns about the number of tribal species, in retrospect I might have been wrong about worrying about their abundance. Because really, we crossed the line of realism long time ago with the number of tribals, as the change of even two species developing intelligence at the same time is quite small.

More tribals mean more variety, so in the end, it might not be such a bad thing afterall. And besides, in spore there were always other tribal species during the tribal phase.

that lem/ black dawn narrative was me, from way back before i called myself anything. im glad you liked it. If you follow the lem into the tundra era, they continue trying to make the world a better place, but they are a little more changed now. In this place...the lemuy dna is in shards, the one skulk that is beginning to exhibit lemuy traits has it right, the skulk contain fragments of the original lemuy dna, as do all the microbes, but each one is shattered or mutated. really fucking horrible things can happen, look at the skulcrow...though perhaps if that skulk claims enough genetic material. perhaps. we still have a bit more to go in this thread, and if not the world, then at least the forests and swamps are starting to become golden again.

As this blanket of spores begins to make life better in these regions, naturally the oxygen levels increase. "Dangerously so?" you might ask, but due to the firelands and the constant volcanic activity, the other chemicals in the atmosphere do a good job of maintaining a balance that is habitable, and the abundant fires do a good job of keeping excess O2 burned off. However, those fires will keep burning a long time.

All of that smoke and ash and so forth however continue to make the weather systems unusual. More frequent storms, ash clouds, and acid rain happen in the region as the environment perpetually attempts to sort itself out.

(Nad, Im looking at you for this one to help a bit) As the Jungle Skulks become more nomadic, the Lure trees have to become more and more self reliant. Their flowers become more like inverted umbrellas, collecting the rain (and acid rain) and using it to grow bigger, over time, they become almost mushroom like, with massive frills on the undersides of their canopies that slowly produce the LemUy spores that seem to make life better for everyone. These Lure trees adopt a new niche in the environment, and serve as incubators for the Skulk still, but now are more a source of prosperity rather than hungry monsters. The skulks are happy to provide what they can for their host trees. The number of lures is reduced to just a single one that acts as a sort of means to communicate between the trees and the skulks themselves. The skulks begin to revere these Mother Trees as almost deific in nature and protect them fiercely.

Alright, and Im just gonna go for it here, any other Skulk bros out there, feel free to throw in some ideas, since this is a collaboration of us here, and I want them all to kinda work together.

The reason behind the rash of migratory Jungle Skulks is that the Mother Trees have run out of 'female' skulks to act as lures, and as such, they have bidden the Jungle Skulk to search out and find their lost kin. Without knowledge of the world, aside from their own desire to make things better, and their instinctive fear of fire and skulcrow, they set forth to save their species.

A few of the strongest, and most powerful skulk make the trip, some unable to carry on, settle and make small communities where they can without the assistance of their Mother Trees or the Lure Trees of old. Those fortunate wanderers that do make it are at first approached cautiously, but then welcomed into the old groves they had long since left. Their species' had diverged at one point, but they were still the same creature at heart, and the LemUy spores within them were anxious to be reunited with other pieces of themselves. (cont.)
>>
>>19247065
i like where you are going with this but dont worry about excessive 02 content, like you have show for the region, and the lemuy spores of old were world wide. it took a lot, a LOT, to accomplish what happened back then.

In manners unknown to them, the species reunite and together their genetic structures are stronger than ever before. The LemUy within them become more complete, the traits of the jungle skulk and the Swamp Skulks find their way into both species, and a new sense of awareness becomes spread throughout their society. Actual vocal communication begins as the desire to spread wisdom of the world amongst themselves increases. While not to the point of discovering tools, the Skulks begin to establish religions, and verbal histories, developing culture because they have little need of anything else (for now)

axrach trees have made some pretty damn good rolls, and here it is. a mobile semi aware flesh eating tree. it releases acid mucus like sap from its leaves and that sticks prey to it, or they get caught in its sap strands to be pulled up into the shredding leaves. after being torn apart and digested the nutrients are absorbed into the leaves...its also pretty damn strong for a plant.

Ages have passed, and the Slashers have grown even smarter, developing the simple spear. They have yet to start throwing it, but upon discovering that a single charge at *ramming speed* was not always enough, some of the brighter of the land started taking their rocks and attaching them to sticks.
A thousand years later, they even learned to use sharp rocks on the end too.

How do name changes work in this game, because I eventually want to change their name to the Gantu (GAN-too).

The Jungle Gohroks become carnivorous in this new era, their claws elongate and are able to shoot out so fast they break the sound barrier. You know the Gohroks are hunting nearby when you hear the sound of gunfire or falling trees. This sound is enough to scare away other foes, while also disorienting the prey they have just ensnared. Their bodies change to adapt to the jungle environment, and they glow faintly due to all the LemUy they ingest by eating the Skulks and other species.

Really, in this stage, it's probably up to you to pretermine.

Assuming that the 4 tribal species of the island are the skulks, slashers, govkars and the creative joords, how will they be distributed across the continent? The govkar live in the marshes, the slashers in the jungles if I understood them correctly, skulks in both and the joords in the coast.
We should lay out the starting locations for the tribes in a fashion that would keep any individual biome from being overcrowded.Perhaps the slashers for example prefer to live in the mountain jungles, while the skulks favor the ones nearer the coast.

Ig will probably need to make a new, more detailed map for the tribal game if he plans to go forth with the ideas for the map locations and resources brouth forward in the earlier thread.
>>
>>19247608
If it's not too presumptious, I'd like for the Gantu (Slashers) to have the coast or somewhere near the ocean, since I kind of want them to have a Hawaiian and/or Tiki theme to 'em. It'd make more sense and kind of tie into the theme and help reinforce it.
>>
>>19247624

That's totally fine with me, I was just making suggestions.
Actually, I jus remembered that the southern part of the continent was split up to form many islands. The gantu could inhabit these island and coast jungles, while the skulks would live in the wet jubngles more inlands and the southern mountain ranges.

I think that the tribal ones were the hive rohas instead of the walker ones. The boost rohas they originated from weren, that big, about the size of human head, while the storm rohas are about the size of a human.
>>
>>19248974
>>19248657
The thing with the Hive Roha, is there are a bunch of them that all work together now. They kinda have niche roles they play. Boost Roha were the 'brains' of the bunch, but now they're really the drones. There are female queen Boosts that tend to the eggs and the rest manage the colony. The Spiky Curves are larger (like the size of a large dog) and do most of the hunting. Then there are the very few of the Deep Roha which were massive, but there would be like 1 or 2 per hive, basically as kinda ancient protectors. Not as smart and more like beasts of burden than anything. And now the Lurkers are the size of modern crocodiles and I would say that while most are no longer amongst the colony, there is maybe a small group that is kinda 'in charge' that lies inside the colony and is the drive that pushes them to sentience.
>>
>>19248676
I think the Bagrs are more awesome non-tribal. They are the monsters in the mountain. The trolls under the bridge. They are giant beasts of horror. Practically dragons. They are terrifying and much like the Skulcrows perfect beasts of legend for the tribes to interact with/overcome

Oh man, I've got a thick paperback doorstopper of a book, all about the myths and legends of the specific tribe called the Hopi... I gotta dig it up out of the basement.

As for the light node... it's a cool idea, but if it's all the same to you, I think I'll keep them as is, just with a retractable, it's easier to draw and remember. The Gantu resemble an alien race I made a while back and sometimes the familiar shapes just take over. This old race didn't have a headlamp, so I sometimes forget to put it on.

Full Bord chart.

Fucking bords man. Can't wait for the moment when the world finally makes contact with the great bord empire, and they see what kind of degenerates their proud bloodline has spawned.

Anyways, a new species of dahons emerges. The great trap dahons grow massive. They anchor their gas filled bodies to the canopies of the azrach forests, and then hang their hundreds of long hairlike poisonous tentacles towards the ground, ensnaring and killing anyone who wanders to these near invisible traps. They then pull them to their mouths with their specialized tentacles.
Their topside has developed an additional layer of skin that helps them to keep themselves moist, as it hinder water evaporation.

I have some potential ideas for the skulks and their culture.
In my opinion, the skullcrows should have a large influence in the folk lore and traditions of the skulks, seeing how they have been enemies for thousands of generations. Perhaps the important skulk individuals use masks made from dead skullcrows as marks of authority. This brings me to my second idea, which is masks. I think that it would be kinda neat if the skulks wore masks, perhaps they would help them identify each other, or simply be the marks of the mature individuals. Perhaps they could all have personalized masks that they themselves carved when they reached maturity?
Also, are you people going forward with the genders for these things? Because that was kinda the vibe I got from the latest updates for them.

Anyways, in the ash lands of the west, a new species of gohroks has emerged. These upright gohroks move in large swarms, eating everything they come across. They are extremely aggressive and easy to provoke if they are meddled with. They will attack anything they perceive as a threat without warning and with relentless fury, using their extremely powerful necks to make devastating headbutts and their crushing claws to rip and tear through any armor. They will pursue the thing that angered them for miles, and if they catch it, they will pummel it to death.

The swarms migrate across the ashen highlands, mountains and they occasionally end up in other biomes as well, such as the southern mountain ranges and it's jungles as well as the burning plains and frilla forests.

>>
ok, gentlemen, do we go for a convergent evolution, were all skulks slowly bleed into one race, or have it so that they all are able to live in a cohabitation situatuion? finally, keep the status quo and they are highly separate species. Personally, i like the lore of the great mother tree, and the jungle skulks sort of becoming the "male" half of the society. Though any skulk can pollinate another willing skulk, and swamp skulks still use the tree to reproduce, do jungle skulks? baseline skulks are moving away from it, but still reverent. I dont know. blargh, its a lot of input needed. I also still dont know whats going on with the Swamp skulk's and that lemuy change, will it go any further"?
>>
>>19252439

Well, it seems that unlike the other tribal species, the skulks have been developed by multiple people.
It is best that you guys come up with a suitable conclusion for them, though I too kinda like the two different breeds forming some sort of pseudo genders within the skulk population.

I still think however that the main concentration of the tribal skulks should be in the southern jungles. This way, we don't overcrowd one biome with too many tribal species. There could be some migration of the skulks going on though, perhaps the jungle skulks some times take the long trip to north to bring back some of the "females" to their southern jungles or something?
>>
>>19252439
Normal and LemUy Skulks seem to coexist just fine. I'd actually say the two are like races, but due to their nature of reproduction, end up staying separate.
When it come to genders, I'd say that the skulks are closer to the male, while the Venus Tree is like the female. Both are really more of pseudo genders, and "mating" happens more like in the sense of angler fish.
>>
>>19252439
Also, in case you missed, I had some ideas for the skulk culture here, that you can freely use.
>>19251129

And with that, I am heading to bed. Keep fleshing out the biomes, so that we all may have a rich and interesting continent for the tribes to explore.
I will return tomorrow, make few updates to the gowkar, create a couple of splinter species and perhaps further expand on the new head butting swarm bugs. Multiple colors based on biomes perhaps....?

Good night gents!

As far as my fluff is going at the moment. They are still all the same species genetically. They have just adapted to exist in different environments and because of the LemUy genes within them. The Jungle Skulks reproduce in actually 2 separate ways at the moment. They have the Mother Tree which works like the Lure Trees of the Swamp and LemUy skulks. And they also produce offspring via the Energy Fruit that grows from their bodies. It is through cross pollinating these fruit that the species 'mate' and create new offspring that are a collection of both traits. Or, if say a Jungle Skulk was reincorporated into a Lure tree or something like it, since the Mother Trees no longer do anything but use the Skulks for food. (they have spores and can self pollinate).

So: All Skulks are the same, they are just different 'races' that are genetically compatible. I havent tried yet to make a Unified Skulk because I havent had time, but I can work on that today. I was going for Jungle Skulks to be more muscular and 'male' shaped, while the others are less robust and feminine in features. The offspring would be able to be either. And through this union, they evolve into sentience and create society.
>>
>>19251832
Also, it was due to the strange fact that they were both genetically compatable that strange mutations/hybrids began showing up, so the two kinda became divergent from that point, with the spiny boost becoming the 'bad' version of the Hive Roha while the Spiny Curve went to find the Hive Roha and cohabitated with them. And that was the beginning of the species working together

Step one. I wanted to start showing the differences between the sexes hybrid or otherwise, so I am starting with the head and I will draw a completed hybrid at some point later.

Ok, so the Female Skulks have longer leaf hair, and more plumage in general, they also have larger mouths and their eye designs are typically smaller, but more intricate.

Male Skulks have long eye designs that trail down their bodies, Shorter leaf Hair, and smaller mouths. They also have thicker patches of 'skin' that serve as a kind of armor (the darker green spots)

File: 1338085467489.png-(919 KB, 2408x1156, skulkexplanation.png)

>>19255350
Thinking about it, I'd say that in the swamps at least, Skulks and Venus trees are actually the same species. While they resemble a human female, in reproduction, Skulks actually perform a purpose similar to the male angler fish. The tree grows the plant part of the skulks body. The gel portion Skulk, while connected, will undergo division, being split between two new bodies. Until dividing, they lure in creatures to feed their mate.

The Venus Tree also has a gel-like portion within the trunk. Others will bud off the main, which become wrapped in a leafy pod with seeds. Skulks take the pod to find a place to plant it, where it grows into another tree. Occasionally, the tree's gel with switch around with the gel of a Skulk.
>>
File: 1338086415168.png-(87 KB, 1114x1258, Hybrid Skulk.png)
87 KB
And here we go. Hybrid Skulks. Eventually they all adopt the thicker protective parts of the jungle skulks as it supports their body in daily activity. The Hybrids (now just Skulks) have the back tendrils of the Jungle type, with the retractable vines of the Swamp variety. The Energy fruit becomes the new means of reproduction with both sexes being able to produce offspring, but still requiring another skulk to pollinate. The Lure/Mother Trees become more of a symbolic thing, and only the wisest or most powerful heroic skulks become one with these trees as they get old. That way the trees retain the wisdom and strength of the tribes.

As for the LemUy Skulk Hybrids... I dont know where they are going, so Im leaving that one to you if thats cool with you
>>
>>19255626
I like this, but I was thinking that the Lure Trees would become more of a "Special" merging. The effect would be the same, but these would be more Pureblood Skulks (Im thinking something akin to Asari reproduction). The Skulks born from the Lure/Mother Trees become seen as Mystics or Leaders, while the majority of the population reproduce the new way, strengthening the genetic system while also holding true to the old ways. I see the Trees as a store of genetic memory and so forth.

Alternatively, the Mother Trees could be seen as the place for "Special" members of society, and the skulks actually tend a grove of Lure Trees with one Mother Tree in the middle. They use the Lure Trees as the more communal 'everyman' reproduction option, while the Mother Trees take on a more significant role and so forth. The energy fruit then, could be the key to being able to link with the trees themselves, as once it is pollinated, then the Lure tree will take them in, whereas before, the tree would just try to eat them. Ideas? (also, are the pictures alright?)

I am confused and terrified at the same time...

Oh, just a quick question, what's up with the Bord? What's their story?
>>
>>19255933
Confused how? Terrified is good since this place is supposed to have that horror element.

Further elaboration. The plant portion of the body pollinates with the tree, gel part undergoes division (being basically a giant cell). Part sexual, part asexual.
Little doodle of Skulk gel. Incomplete sporing organs.

>>19255797
I think I may see the main difference between the two. Plant portions in the swamp have stamens while trees only have stigmas. For Jungle Skulk, there are skulks with one or the other, and a couple trees left.
As for the cultural aspect, it all depends on the tribe. In one, reproduction through the Lure/Venus tree is saved only for the elite, the other way around, or something else entirely.

It's nothing fully determined, but the way I see it is that they came from a planet thousands of light years away. There was a large population sent to this planet on a colonization vessel. Over the eons of being cared for by the ships AI, the Bord had lost their cognitive functions, being reduced to the fat, dumb, little, flightless birds shown.
The ship spent a little time in orbit before something happened, be it a computer malfunction or damage, which caused the ship to crash-land in the arctic regions of the Western Continent. Many were ejected in a few escape pods, spreading them to this continent and the sandbar islands. Highest population is still near the crash site.
>>
>>19255957
I'm just a little lost on how these things reproduce. It's no biggie, if need be I can just go back through the thread at another time.
>>
>>19255933
bord are a very degenerated strain of a space fairing species that crashed here on this planet.
>>
>>19256045
dawww, its a baby.

>>19256158
We're trying to hammer it out right now, thus the confusion. Basically the skulks use the Lure/Mother trees as incubators for their offspring by merging with the trees. The plant parts of the Skulk become incorporated into the trees (creating the Lures) and the Gel inside of them (or the Energy Fruit) becomes the new baby which grows to maturity within the Tree. Skulks then harvest the Baby Skulk 'fruits' from the tree and they grow into new Skulk.
>>
>>19256158
>>19256227

long story short, skulks reproduce in multiple ways. this is actually normal here on this planet. one, cross pollination between two skulks. two, merge with a mother tree to create more seedlings, three, asexually in the instance of the jungle skulk. any skulk is likely capable of these actions. there are obvious benefits to sharing genetic material between two skulks, in dire times, asexual is beneficial, and if a skulk is injured beyond healing, merger with a mother tree continues its usefulness.
>>
>>19256287
What makes this the most confusing is that a Skulk is actually four different organisms: Three plants and a mutant lemuy.
>>
>>19256156
Oh, so that image was a spontaneous creation? I thought the bord were some critter from an earlier thread, but I could never find from whence they came.

>>19256227
Well, I feel better about my derpness now.
>>
>>19256547
They were from an earlier thread. Nongent made them for the tundra thread, but IG couldn't think of any way they could have evolved from any of the starting creatures. I posted that joke picture, and people declared it canon.
>>
>>19256681
no trip, are you going to do anything further to your lemuy skulks?
>>
>>19256227
I think I have a idea that straitens this out. Energy Fruit is a result of self pollination found mostly in the plants of Jungle Skulk. They're probably more of a pod holding the seeds/spores of two plants, fruit of one, and a little gel. They can also be formed by two Skulks pollinating each other. Gel is always formed asexually. This is also how the trees work, but a bit accelerated due to the skulk becoming two larger gels and the tree growing bodies.

Three always distinct gel types, plants can interbreed, as they determines more of what the Skulk is capable of.

One extra die. Ignore the fourth one.

The hide of the Cave Boomer becomes thick and calloused, to the point where it resembles stone. Being cold blooded, they warm their bodies with geothermic heat. The begin to inhabit deeper caves, illuminating them with more luminescent organs.
>>
>>19256904
Got it. Lets treat the energy fruit like an organ on the Skulks that fills over time with Gel and spores (I don't think they seed anymore per say). This pod can remain a backup power supply for the Skulk if it needs it, or if it has to reproduce, it can force itself to germinate naturally, and it then acts just like the Fruit from the Lure trees. So Lure Tree Fruit = a kind of Energy Fruit. With the exception that energy fruit are something the skulks produce themselves.

So then Gel are basically the Proto-Skulk that needs genetic info to start growing then, right? Just trying to get our terminology on the same page. Gel = embryo. Spores = DNA. Lure/Energy Fruit = Spore/Gel container. And how it all mixes together can happen in a variety of ways. Ok. Got it.
>>19256869
I too want to know what will become of the LemUy Skulks

Forgot that swamps were 3d6, so it was the right number

The Swamp Boomers gain strong adhesive pads on their hands and feet. They already had multiple small brains. More begin to form, mostly consisting of parts dealing with coordination and spacial memory.
>>
>>19257255
Gel is genetically complete, as that portion of the skulk is a giant amoeba. It splits into a perfect copy, but they've become so codependent on the plant body that it won't grow until the rest of the body starts to as well. Two part reproduction is what I'm thinking.

there is a train of thought here in this game, mr.fortunehost, that it is better to do and ask for forgiveness, then to not do at all. even what really, really seemed like an attempt at trolling was torn apart, and remade into cannon. thats where the koburrog came from, and from them, the vietkoburrong, or VKB. in short, if you want to do that, and you do not, you will be committing a GREAT AND SHAMEFUR DISPRAY!

finally finished the 'ready for tribal' picture for the skulks.

Eventually, some of the brave explorer Skulks start to use the armored shells of beasts to act as armor to protect themselves from Skulcrow and other predators. It starts...

Cool.
So we have Hybrid, Jungle, Swamp, and LemUy.
I just want to know what differences there are in the gel portion of Jungle Skulks from the Swamp sort. I know about the thicker cytoplasm.
>>
Im planning on considering Jungle/Swamp/Hybrid to basically be interchangeable at this point. They are all practically the same thing now.

As for the Gels? They are probably a different color inside the Energy Fruit, and glow with all the bio-luminescent lemUy dna in them. Other then that? They store a huge amount of energy within them (in the form of Sugars/Caffeine-like vitamins probably) and because of this, they 'go bad' somewhat quickly, so if it becomes over-ripe it will eventually fall off and a new one will grow.

i like what you did, I think skulks are quite varied now, expressing some or none, or even a mix of their variants. Some with nose, some without, some with breasts some without, back tentacles or no, tree dependency or no and even with or without the energy fruit. the "energy fruit" needs a new name perhaps "progenitor soul/heart".

This is my final variation of the skulk physiology. The baseline skulks carry the lemuy "ears" and sporing features. the "hair" leaves have become a collection of vines and the occasional leaf. the vines, can act in a similar fashion to their extendable hand vines.

onward to culture! I imagine that Hybrid, Jungle, Swamp, and LemUy skulks can be found living together, offspring exhibiting any of the traits of the parents. See above. Eventually most skulks are hybridized.

I can imagine some skulks will wear masks as was suggested, as well as bits of armor. "hair" can be cut, glowing tattoos of ground up luminescent moss. the moss will likely live in the skin of the skulk so the tattoo is successful. i would like to see song be important to them, so when the lure tree is full of skulk bodies it emits a strange song with a hundred voices, sometimes constant whispers or occasional fey laughter intermixed. its a bit of insanity and wisdom all wrapped up into one.
>>
>>19258306

skulks and tools...they have lots of extra "hands" in the form of tentacles, and those have some serious reach. I doubt they would ever invent spears. perhaps many knives for a blender style knife fight. blah blah....i will leave this to you all now. im sleepy.

could call it their Scion or the Kith. (Kith sounds a little more unique perhaps.) All the fruit of varying types could just be referred to as Kith, since the Skulks wouldnt differentiate between them.

>>
>>19258419
transparent and glowing.

>>19258397
I like the atavism (evolutionary regression) but keep in mind, the origonal lemuy genetic code is scrambeled to high hell and broken across a multitude of microorganisms, even more so, its been evolving in that corrupted state. So what we get will resemble, but not be, the origonal. On top of that, the base is the plant, its the scaffolding, so those traits will probably be there forever or for a while. BUT, with that said, each tribe will be quite unique, and i look forward to seeing where it goes, especially if one tribe makes it their business to see how deep the genetic rabbit hole goes.

Holes. Parts of the plant body peeling away. They're the only ones with the spore producing organs redeveloped to such a degree. Unfortunately, the spores are still malformed. This is why we need the Lem. They may hold the key.

Those are the Lem. LemUy descendents from the western continents. They live in the arctic.

Damn, this thread is already autosaging.
Well, I'll finish up the new govkar picture I am making and post it here.

I absolutely love what you did to skulks. Makes me kinda feel unoriginal with the govkar. I don't really have any interesting ideas going for them right now.

Anyways, we can all still make splinter species and discuss the potential new map mechanics for the tribal game before this thread 404s.
/tg/ catalog is helpful for keeping a track of these threads, even when they are autosaging.
>>
>>19258646

come here for tribal. it will be ready in a few.
