old thread http://boards.4chan.org/tg/res/19258646#p19258646

primordial evolution game discussion. talk about tribes, your tribe, or plans. Discuss fluff that needs fluffing, or have questions anwsered on what the hell is going on. Put up drawing that your working on for new species or pictures of your tribe lighting themselves on fire. fuck it, im going to bed
------------------
on a completly unrelated note, lets talk about the planet of this game, or more specifically, what kinds of moon(s) does it have? do they support life, etc. FortuneHost knows where im going with this. i got good ideas, they need to be recycled. they are a little wild and might fit here.

Welp! Have this to wipe your mind off that thought:
Think about the different breeds Ramel and non-sentient Hoppas would develop because they were domesticated.
IRL examples would be from wolves into dogs, from Prezwalski's Horses into the horses we know today, etc.
Domestication opens up avenues of evolution that isn't quite natural.

Here's the Ramel, circa early Tribal era, from the West Continent. They were domesticated by the Lem and the Frowgmen, and were numerous in tundras. They grow indefinitely, so there were gigantic really old Ramels around.

Here's my drawing for the immediate solar system. (not necessarily to scale :P)

The solar system revolves around a pair of twin suns, almost ontop of one another, their gravity fields combine to make one more powerful one, and together, the light from them shines brighter, but no longer than having one sun. Both suns together are only slightly more powerful than our own.

The first planet is mostly a charred husk of a world (someone can name the planets if they want). The second world used to be supportive of life, but something happened long long long ago that wiped out all life on the planet. Now it is filled with deadly poisonous gasses and acids. Any non protected life form on the surface would be dissolved in minutes if the heat from the sun didnt get them first.

Our world is third from the sun. Just about right. It used to have 3 moons, each of varying sizes and orbits around the planet. However something happened to the largest moon and it's orbit decayed, eventually drifting away and connecting with the 4th planet which knocked a massive piece off it off, burning up most of the atmosphere and creating a massive asteroid belt. These asteroids are far enough away from the planet that they do little more than cause infrequent meteor showers. However, the fourth planet is not spared, and is regularly bombarded with massive chunks of rock, continuing to scatter more and more debris into space.
>>
>>19284225
The remaining two moons cause tides to be frequent and are one of the reasons for the significantly powerful and unusual weather patterns of the world.

On the East, I think we get the normal-ish ones like pic above, and the glowing ones in the marshes (that evolved into Gantu eventually)
On the Central, there's the normal Ramels, and then there's the orange-ish Ramels which is just a palette swap.
That's about it, actually. Which is why I'm asking for their further evolutions, seeing as they could be the driving force behind a few civilizations/tribes.

Here are some quick ones I came up with. I apparently suck at drawing these guys, so if people could take my ideas and run with it... Here are the Plow Rammel, the Hunting/Riding Rammel (depending on size), and the Rammel bread for eating.

Other breeds could be chosen based off of their horn shapes for the purposes of weaponry or ceremonies. The Glow Rammel would be great at being a saw blade. Im sure you could get axe heads, scythes, etc out of them. The problem would be in sharpening them... and keeping them from fighting so they arent all busted up. I could see some being bred to have Round Dome noses that are hollow for easy bowls/containers. I could also see them being bred for war itself. Im going to work on a 'battle' rammel in a bit if I can get my art to work with me

Anyways, should we post the maps and the already existing tribes here? I am assuming that this is still just a preparation thread for the eventual tribal game.
How do you feel about the idea of moving somewhat slower during the tribal this time around? I think that the previous tribal games both developed rather too fast.

Battle Ramels for whoever wants em. Depending on the size you want these guys to be, there were two ways you could ride them. One was that they are epic big and you ride in the carved out hollows of the arm hooks like a saddle, or if they are smaller you'd ride them normally, and the hooks would act as saddle bags for holding stuff for you

In a few million years, Im sure things will get dangerous, but hopefully by then, the Eastern Continent peoples have found peace, and using the mother tree (and whatever else they invent) they find a way to store all the DNA of the planet, and then, hook it up to the Great Library, and launch everybody into space on epic arc of awesomeness... and leave that no good Ol' Nameless there to face final extinction via epic supernova.

Don't sweat it. A harmless joke here and there isn't enough to rustle my jimmies.
Let's just try to keep focus on developing and preparing for the tribal thread, instead of something that is such a minor detail way too far in the possible future of this world that it isn't even worth discussing about right now.

All these domesticated ramels are just here in preparation for the tribal games, right?
Or will they already exist at the start of the game?
I am kinda iffy about pre-domesticating them, but if this is simply just brainstorming about them, I am fine with it.
>>

>>
>>19284809
Yay!
I am soon also able to participate better, the moment I get from work that is.

In the mean time, have this fluff.

The Gwiliak society consists of family groups that are all related to each other. These families are assigned different tasks by the ruling body of the society, usually consisting of elder and wiser govkar who are often the parents and other older relatives of the current families. The current ruler is Kiknau, and she is assisted by her sister Nikatin and cousin Likanat.
She keeps the two busy fighting against each other, so that they don't start vying for her status.

There are currently 5 families within the Gwiliak tribe. The families are led by the parents. The families usually consist of the founding female and male, 3-7 of their elder children, who are already mature and varying amount of children. The elder children help their parents in all kinds of tasks, such as hunting, gathering, building, teaching younger ones and so on.
The govkar breed like rabbits, as it is rare for the children to grow into adulthood, and it is an achievement for the adults themselves to successfully find a mate (preferably not their siblings or cousins) and start a family. Because of this, there is also somewhat sizable group of individuals who are also Kiknau's children, but as they lack a family they aren't as high on the societal ladder.
Govkars usually mate for life, as the children need to be taught so they might survive a little better in the marshes. Unlike human parents, the govkar parents aren't needed to really provide for the family, as govkar children aren't exactly helpless, but without knowledge, they would usually die due to stupid mistakes. The parent's and elder siblings most important role is to teach the children about the harsh nature of the marshes.
>>
Hmm, that made me think about how the Kaze tribe views breeding.

Since the Skulks are generally long lived given the right climate conditions and nothing eating them, they breed very slowly. They are plant people, and so normal everyday sorts of injury doesn't do much to them. They can heal from many things that would kill other species (like losing a limb). It just takes time. When the Skulks do get old or too damaged to heal from, they return to the Mother Tree to spawn a new member of their tribe that will replace them. This new child is a mixture of DNA/Memory/traits from the tribe as a whole which makes the child a new individual, who is then welcomed to the tribe. This act is seen as an honor for the tribe, who saves it for only the bravest and wisest of their number.

Typically, when the skulks wish to increase their numbers, they will reproduce via mating, where two skulks will fertilize one another's Kith Fruit and share their memories and genes with each other. This results in the birth of two new skulks (without the loss of life of the original skulks who bore them) that share genetic traits of their parents.
>>
The third and final way is for a Skulk to self fertilize their own Kith fruit. This act is seen as a rebirth, rather than a new life. And it is usually only done in unique circumstances. In order to do this, the parent must permanently remove its ability to produce further Kith Fruit and then fertilize it. (This act is almost always fatal). The child created from this method is a direct clone of the parent, and even contains the memories of its parent. Effectively allowing them to be reborn once more. Some question this method as they believe that a piece of who they were is forever lost when they go through the rebirth. A piece of their soul. This method is typically only used by the Travellers who are unable to continue on their journey, so they are reborn in hopes of reaching their destination. (To deliver messages, or share knowledge, etc). Some tribes have been known to keep a leader who is reborn every generation, to maintain a lineage and so their great leader will live on without being 'contaminated' by the rest of the tribe. However, the Kaze tribe does not condone this sort of thing
>>
>>19284976

The families have a large degree of autonomy under Kiknau's rule. They are allowed to do their own things, as long as the tasks they have been assigned to are fulfilled. If they are not, the other families will use it immediately against the failing one, as the competition for the place of great mother's favorite is hard amongst the children of Kiknau.

Other thing that keeps the families in line is the threat of the siblings with no families, as they are ever eager to bring their more fortunate siblings down a notch.

The current children with families are:

Daki, Kiknaus favorite. She is the oldest of Kiknaus children and the most successful one, having birthed and raised 6 healthy children into adulthood who have proven themselves to be quite capable in hunting as well as warriors. She is proud and sees herself as the next leader of the tribe. Often belittles the effort her siblings put towards their respective tasks. Her family is in charge of defending the tribe.

Nufa. his family has 4 elder children, along with numerous younger ones. He sometimes organizes hunts in competition with daki, but often comes short due to his short sighted plans. Has lost his firstborn to a dahon when they attempted to charge a swamp boomer. His family is in charge of hunting food.
>>
The inferno skulk is a rare circumstance that can bring boon to a tribe. And when such rare travellers return to a tribe, the entire tribe joins with the inferno skulk, fertilizing its numerous Kith Fruit and then they return it to the Mother Tree to honor their memory. The children born from an inferno skulk rarely can take on the unique colorations of their parent, but typically they are just like normal members of the society. These traits are even more rarely passed down from the Mother Tree itself as well.

Children who bear these marks are quick to rise to honor in the tribe as they are viewed as blessed by the gods.
>>
>>19285175

cont.

Hakel. He holds little interest in the competitions of his siblings. He is more interested in inventing new tools and gathering knowledge for the tribe. He has 2 elder children who help him out, as his mind tends to wander. His family is in charge of building and repairing the huts and other stuff of the tribe. He is often dismissed as slow witted or mad by his siblings, but his family's confidence in his ideas is exceptional.

Jun. She is quite unremarkable, only having 3 elder children, all equally unremarkable. As her family are gatherers, she is seen as cowardly by both Daki and Nufa, who often shamelessly exploit the fruits of her labor. Her submissive attitude is a result of years of abuse coming from her older, more stronger older siblings. She is absolutely loyal to Kiknau however, and her tireless work is largely what keeps the tribe's day to day life operational.

Macia. Youngest of the siblings, somewhat naive, and extremely energetic. Only has 1 elder sibling, but her family seems to be very capable of pulling equal weight when compared to her elder siblings. Daki sees her as a threat, and often tries to sabotage her efforts, but somehow, Macia always seems to turn disadvantages around and with them push herself forwards even harder. She is currently tasked with scouting and keeping eye on the tribes territory.

The Gwiliak don't really count the non adolescent children as true members of the tribe, as in their age, it is still very likely for them to die.
Only after becoming adolescents and eventually full adults, are they seen as worthy members of the tribe. A family's worth is often seen in the number of surviving adults it has been able to produce.
>>
Kaze Tribe Pantheon:

The All Mother and Elder Kaze: This pair are a direct manifestation of the will of the gods. The All Mother itself is viewed as a sacred place, and outsiders are not welcome. The Elder and the whisperers are the Skulks' direct line to the gods. As such they are revered above all else.

The Sky - The Sky is viewed as the great messenger. It carries everything to where it needs to be. The Spores of the Mother tree and the LemUy, the winds, the rain, and the stars and the moon. Without the sky, life would be locked in place and all would return to the great stillness (the time before the skulks became mobile)

Rain - Rain is seen as the father of the earth. It's energy flows into all things as it falls from the sky. (To this end, all water is seen as holy and a gift from Rain). Anything that falls from the sky: Hail, dying leaves, meteorites, etc are also viewed as gifts from Rain brought to them by Sky. And the Kaze tribe holds them precious in one way or another.
>>
The Suns and the Moons: Two pairs of celestial bodies. The Suns work in harmony with one another to warm the earth. The moons seek to bring an end to the Sun's warmth and as such are representations of death. The Suns become a symbol of life/birth/etc while the moons are death and cold.

The Kaze have a version of Hell which they consider the firelands and volcanic regions outside their forests. These places are stalked by those poor lost souls who were unable to make it home to the Mother Tree. And out there, the Crows wait with their spires to forever mobilize the skulk once more and return to the great stillness.
>>
and lastly, the Earth, is seen more as a medium from which all life springs forth. In itself it is not divine, but through the shaping of the gods, the earth can become a new life. Returning a creature to the earth is seen as a way to allow the gods to remake it anew. As such, the Skulk do not fear death (unless it is through extreme methods like Skulcrows) nor do they see taking life for a reason as a crime, as long as the balance is served. Senseless killing is still frowned upon.

Correction on Macia. She has only one elder children, instead of sibling.

The rest of the tribe consists of the younger children, whose exact number is anyones guess, the males and females without families, and Kiknau and the other older govkar helping her rule.

The unmated individuals aren't allowed to mate with their cousins and siblings, as it is seen as abhorrent. Incest has higher change of producing skulk born govkars, as the genes causing the expression of these traits are repressive, and two govkars carrying similar alleles of these foreign genes can produce skulk born govkars if they breed.
The skulk traits don't work exactly like our repressive genes do however. They jump around the govkar genome, and seemingly obey their own set of rules that dictate their behavior. Sometimes the skulk born only express few of the plant like traits, while in other cases, the resemblance to the plant witches is extreme. The skulk like children can of course be birthed by any govkar, but the change for it to happen is bigger in case of incest.
Some of the unmated individuals do breed, of course, as is almost impossible to prevent, but if they are found out, they are punished. Their children can often pass unnoticed amongst the other youngsters though, as the govkars don't keep exact tally on the numerous children.

There hasn't been any know instances of skulk like govkars being born since Kiknau started ruling the tribe. Her firstborn however, was a skulk born, and it was put to death by the other members of the tribe. She blames the skulks for corrupting her first child and holds a deep grudge towards the creatures. She thinks that the only way to save a skulk born is to kill it, as the plant witch has already corrupted the child beyond any redemption.
>>
>>19285303

None. The Gwiliak hate the skulks. They kill all children carrying the plant like traits, such as the green, vine like head tentacles instead of the normal ones and the third eye.
This hate is due to their fear of the creatures and their lack of understanding of what causes the plant like traits to come forth. They believe that it's the skulks attempting to turn their children into new skulks. I intend this fear/hate to play a big part in the development of the tribe, and I am kinda hoping that if NG makes a skulk tribe, he makes it closer to the marshes, granting us both something more than simple npc interaction.

Don't think that I would personally hate the skulks, because that's isn't true. I like them very much. I am just trying to play a more aggressive tribe this time.
>>
The Gwiliak don't really worship anything. They don't have the concept of gods, but they do believe in spirits. They respect ancestral spirits, and fear the spirits of the marshes.
For example, they think that the predatory boomers are vengeful spirits of normal boomers.

The closest to a god like entity in their belief system is the "Ill will" or "She who hates us".
Basically they believe in an ever present spirit of the marshes who wishes nothing but misery upon the gowkar. Skulks are believed to be manifestations of this spirit, which is one of the major reasons the Gwiliak hate the skulks so much.

Overall, the Gwiliak belief system simply a collection of superstitions with no real structure or tenets of faith. They are very down to earth people after all, more concerned with mere survival than complex theology. Their superstitions serve as an easy way to transfer some basic knowledge and tips about survival in the marshes, as while they are grossly inaccurate, they still hold some grains of truth in them that could save the life of an individual who beliefs in them.
For example, the Gwiliak believe that walking upright in areas where the canopy is high brings bad luck, as it is a show of pride and it angers the trees and "She who hates us", and they will strike the prideful fool down.
This belief discourages the govkar from walking upright in the areas where the deadly balloon dahons often hang their tentacles, which can save their lives.

Hehehe, you could say that.

Serious question, reading you guys' (or girls, I don't know...) entries, it seems I've underestimated just how advanced tribal was.
I was assuming something like Neanderthal or Cro-Magnon levels of development, yet you guys are looking at just-shy of the Bronze age stages.
I was going to change my tribe and logo as time went on, but should I perhaps skip ahead further, to what were originally my *future* plans?
You guys have religion and everything, the Gantu have yet to develop language.
Perhaps I'm still thinking of this like creature stage, then Nad comes along with description of *individuals*. Are we not playing the species as a whole anymore?

The Glow (a portion of the rainforest where glowing moss covers EVERYTHING completely for some strange reason), Joord Migratory Trail, Hive Roha Colony,
The Dark Mire (a place in the swamp that is toxic to LemUy, any LemUy spores/plants/etc that enter are at risk of death),
Impact Crater (some time in the history of the planet a massive piece of the 3rd moon crashed to the surface, leaving behind a massive crater and probably other stuff too)
The Grand Library (from the Central Reef, but it is possible that one of the islanders might be able to see it gently blinking out at sea while on a trip at some point)

Random Encounters:
Quicksand, Remote Cave, Tiny pool, ancient fossils of an extinct race, isolated tribe of ancestors (do they have strange mutations/tech?), Game Trail, Boiling Geyser, Massive Sinkhole (How far does it go down? Whats down there?), major carnivore's breeding ground (babies for grabs, but what about momma?), Rammel Graveyard (for whatever reason, the Rammel have all marched to this place to die, Bones everywhere)

Hows that for a start?

My tribe had language for a while even pre-sentience. They had to in order to work with the lure trees and avoid the skulcrow who also have a basic speech device.

As for religion and so forth, its more mythology and the like. They are just now learning to use tools and such. Think of the skulk as very advanced in lore (because all the memory is passed to the next generation each time) but not so much in civilization. They attach meaning to everything, but not so much understand it yet.
>>
>>19285791
Right now, Im just looking forward to learning how to make nets. The skulks have literally no tools aside from dyes, jewelry and some pieces of shell they are using as 'armor' of sorts that is mostly just decoration

Looks good so far, though in the future, with 1d4chan, it'd be a good idea to list the article title as Kaze (Name of Evo Game). This is so it isn't treated as a general article, which may cause it to be deleted by mods/users who don't know how it's /tg/ related. Don't worry about it now, though I'll put up a re-direct if I ever do that "wiki binge" I said I might (keyword: MIGHT) do.

Concerning that, I still need to see what my next few weeks look like as far as schedules go, as well as see where I am with Fortune: Evolution Game.

Oh, since I know there's a lot of Cross-Pollination between the two (that is, players of Primordial participate in Fortune and vice versa) we're currently doing a game right now, it's still part 5, but set solely in the desert biome. Here it is >>19279836

Hopefully IG doesn't mind me linking to my game in his, if it's any consolation, it's because his is much faster and I worry about mine being bumped off-board. I can certainly link here in my thread if he wants (and I may do that anyway, I'm enjoying the hell out of this).

Gantu females, are, for the most part similar to the males, the only exception being that the females' face-blades are shorter and not sharpened. Gantu "don't into" sexual dimorphism all that much.

>>19285850

I'm interested in seeing how the Skulk and Silith interact if we ever meet, I mean the Grovkar usually have a "thing" against them, but the Silith might go entire generations without encountering a Skulk.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling this will translate into Skulk being relegated to a demon-esque storybook monster, the kind of bogeyman you'd tell your kids to watch out for before they go to bed.

I'm now picturing the Skulk as a sort of plant-based Aboleth...
>>

That kind of stuff I have been really hoping for in these games. They could be easily incorporated to the map marker idea.

I am actually working on a picture showing both female and male govkar.
Generally, the males are a little bulkier than the females, but other than that, they don't have much sexual dimorphism.
>>
>>19285897
Yeah, they are definitely supposed to have that Fae, nature spirit kinda vibe for other races. On one hand, beautiful and mysterious. On the other monsterous and sinister.

It will definitely be interesting, especially since they emit pheremones that make them more attractive (one way or another) to other species. Its why their lure trees were so effective. The scents they give off draw in other animals, or perhaps forewarn them now that they are sentient and can tell the difference.

Hah! You too?
>>
Btw Non gent, where will you be placing your tribe?

I am kinda curious about this, because, as I stated here:>>19285359 , the skulks play a quite large role in the Gwiliak society, mainly due to their overwhelming hate and fear of them. This will mean that by one way or another, there will be some interaction between skulks and the Gwiliak, and I for one, would prefer if it was done with another player, instead of me just interacting with npc skulks. That isn't nearly as interesting when compared to having an actual person controlling the other side of the interaction.

So if you are willing to consider the possibility of situating your tribe somewhere within the marshes, or in it's vicinity, so there could be some sort of player to player interaction between the skulks and the Gwiliak, I would appreciate it.
>>
>>19285359

So you'll be playing the aggressive tribe! I was considering making the Silith the aggressive Grovkar tribe given how they're big on hunting, which would evolve into "hunting for sport and status" which would cause them to inevitably realize the most dangerous game is other sentients.

That being said, the final design of how the Silith will grow is largely dependent on events and, most importantly, the wealth of the region. It has plentiful plant life yes, but what about it's resources? Is there significant stone and metal deposits? Quality forests capable of supporting large-scale logging?

Yeah, heavy character focus is just my play style. I find it more interesting.
The Nad'lun only had 3 named characters, and there was very little actual narative between them, whereas the Zu-nul had actual subplot going on, with clear protagonist which went along as I developed the tribe.
Pic related, I wrote relatively lengthy story for her.

It seems that the Gwiliak will have even more characters. We'll see how much narrative the tribe will have in the end.

>>
>>19286043

Well, at this stage, they are mostly just trying to survive. They are aggressive towards the skulks because of their fear of them.
My original plan with them was to make them eventually be all about SCIENCE and EXPERIMENTS with EXPLOSIONS! We'll see how much of that plan will actually unfold, as I don't intend to force the tribe follow my plan, but instead I try to make their reactions to the other tribes and events seem natural.

Hey, I can do either one, I'll just need to know which. For the Gantu I've started creating a language, basis of religion (with plans for a more detailed system of theology and ethics as their society develops), art forms and styles, as well as a unique stone to bronze age weapon, with plans to hone & refine it as technology advances.

I've... kinda gone whole hog with these guys.
Note that the language is still in its infancy, really, so far all I have is what I want it to sound like, what letters/sounds I want to use and quick pronunciation guide.

I have a feeling that the Skulks are going to have a hard time keeping up with the other races technologically speaking, especially due to their desire to protect the environment, but hopefully they will make some peace treaties eventually and get uplifted because they can do cool stuff. (Im imagining them sculpting entirely organic waterslides/hedgemazes and stuff like that, which while awesome isnt really a way to build a society.) Hopefully the rolls are good and they can take to the sky after a while.

>But seriously though, if you want metals and minerals and stuff, the volcanic region is right up your alley.

Might set up a colony there once the tribal/civ really picks up, since I imagine the deposits around Region K will be enough to hold me until I develop the means to go to Region D. Not to mention Region D is listed as not being available for the Govkar.

>>19286079

I mean yeah, the Silith could go many different ways depending on how the game unfolds, I'm just listing off likely scenarios given their tendencies and specific living conditions. The Gwiliak and Silith might get along famously if we were to encounter each other as equals. Who knows, we'll have to see how the winds blow.

Colors would probably for the tribes. As for the biomes, your map is good enough for reference!

>>19286066
But your tribe don't know about that... yet. Maybe in the twisted dreams of one of the tribes' woodcarver.

As for other continents, I will also make maps like this, complete with possible settlements and stuff.

And oh, in my opinion, the current 'tribal' stage of the West Continent's tech is comparable to IRL early middle ages at the most, and late bronze age at the least, while the Central Continent is somewhere between pre-iron age and early middle ages, with a few explosives and other anachronisms thrown in. Keep in mind that in the Central Continent, the shipwrecked Onokelshan Lem were small in number, and the Enclave Expedition is just a small expeditionary/rescue force, not a full-blown army. It's kinda like a more primitive version of Columbus, looking for Leif Ericson's trail.

Question:
Have you read through any of the tribal threads?
It might give a clearer picture on how they are usually played.
This applies to everyone who is joining in to the tribal games for the first time.

I'll do that, I was working on writing down Gantu religion & theology.

(Is it that obvious that I haven't read them?)

Though you would have had clearer picture about the general starting tech level of these games if you had read through the earlier ones.

>>
>>19287189
Naah, relax. Enclave's busy fighting virus-borne sentients in the West. Possibly when that died down, they sent the expedition to the Central. That expedition didn't happen yet in the West Continent tribal threads.

And even if they do manage to find their way to the East, I'd imagine they'd encounter fierce resistance in the form of Skulks, I think. If they do want trouble. But we shall see about that, won't we?
>>
>>19287142
That's sound about right.

>>19287189
Nooo! Though I kind of assumed this was in the past, where, currently, the other tribes are just starting out themselves. I just thought maybe this time we'd be starting further back in time, at an earlier stage of development. Moving the dividing line between creature and tribal, so to speak.
>>
Well, here is something. I might do pictures for the other siblings as well at some point.

There will be a lot of internal strife within this tribe, as the siblings and their families are constantly at each other's throats. Kiknau keeps this chaotic mess under her control by simply outsmarting and lying to her children, appealing to their fears and beliefs to get them to do what she wants.

Daki is aggressive, and assertive, often laying out commands to her siblings, even though they are supposed to be equals. She is stronger than average female, easily being able to stand toe to toe against Nufa. She sees herself as the future ruler of the tribe, and is simply waiting her mother to either give the tittle willingly, or simply passing away and thus allowing Daki to take the leadership herself.

The village of the tribe is called Kata Nur, which means Rock tree. It is named after the tall and old azrach tree growing atop of a large rock at the center of a swamp pond. This tree is where the leaders of the tribe has traditionally lived in, along with their closest kin. The rest of the tribe lives in huts built in the azrach trees surrounding the pond.
>>

>>19287355
Hurrr!

The swamps surrounding the village are wet and overgrown. Many of the ponds have large deposits of gases built up under the deep layers of mud.

The Gwiliak move around mostly through the trees, avoiding the wet ground as much as possible. They hate the water, as they fear it. It contains many deadly predators.

Luckily, the small island of relatively dry land surrounding the pond, around which the village is built, is mostly free from the water bound horrors, although floods often cause the water to engulf the ground underneath the village, forcing the Gwiliak to move extra carefully even in their home turf.

>>
>>19287281

The separate continents always start in the past to my understanding. The developments happening here happen around the same time as they are going on in other continents.
This also applies to evolution stuff. That's why there weren't any "modern" creatures in the first evo thread of this continent.
The boomers stayed relatively unchanged for millenias in the western continent, while in here, they quickly diverged into many different forms.

I'd assume that we do start a little earlier here. The Nad'lun tribe is still probably non existent, their ancestors still living in their fabled hidden valley, the legendary hero O'nulaa just starting his quest to collect the whispers of scattered by the soulwind, that will eventually allow him to master the scent way and talk to the other hoppa species like one talks to his kin.
>>
>>19287473

I don't mind that.
That's why I posted the template in the first place.
And really, as long as the general idea is conveyed in the pictures, the quality of the art doesn't really matter. That's how I have always seen it.

>>
The most I've done with Silith theology and religion is have them believe the stars to be spirits and the moon their guardian and protector, a benevolent father-figure and leader of their pantheon. In contrast, they'll grow to hate the Suns, whose burning gaze (dark shells = heat up faster, after all) and overpowering fury drowns out the souls in the heavens, who flee from sight. Only upon nightfall do the spirits deem it safe to return to hang in the night sky, safely protected from the suns by the moon.

Because of this, Silith religious practices will focus on making sure the dying expire under the protective glow of the moon, due to fear their souls will be blown away by the light of the Suns.

This isn't to say the Silith actively hate the day and seek to hide away until nightfall, they're simply indifferent to it while much preferring the night.
>>
>>19287553
It's pretty much that and other work like it that's responsible for my man crush on you (joking, of course).

Also, reading through the Crucible again after so many years, now I want to write an adaption and replace the characters with Gwiliak. Who knows, perhaps it will become a seminal piece of Borgas IV culture, like the Iliad or Hamlet.
>>
>>19287718

The glow spore extract on their tentacles and ears will play into this as well, as over time they'll canonize it as being an expression of their reverence for the glow of the moons.

Who knows? Maybe even later on they'll ritualistically engrave grooves into their shells, putting the extract into them to have ghostly patterns of luminous teal, possibly for religious occasions, war-paint, and/or dances (it'd be like a rave with the glow-sticks being your body!)

Also how necessary are the mandibles on the Govkar's mouth? I'm... Tempted to have them also start up a practice of removing them in an allusion to ritualistic body manipulation (the most obvious one being circumcision.)
>>
>>19287802

Thanks for those nice words.
I don't know if it's either funny or sad, that I only get any positive feedback to stuff I do through the internet from people, who for all intents and purposes are complete strangers to me, living on the other side of the globe. Whatever the case is, I still appreciate your compliments.

Anyways, I seriously hope that I get someone playing skulks near my location, as interacting with NPCs will get boring pretty fast. The skulk have important effect on my tribe, because of the immense fear the Gwiwilak have for them. I will have to address this effect at some point.

Also, IG, in case you are lurking, how exactly are you gonna do the map feature things?
I kinda liked the small markers idea that would be assigned to the map upon the tribes finding the points of interest. That way, the map would be eventually built up in detail through the actions of the players, which in my opinion is kinda neat idea.
>>
>>19287899
And he can use the little markers for future maps as well. I'm going to go ahead and make some in case he likes the idea, guess I'll just have to guess at resources he may want. They'll all have transparent backgrounds, by the way, so that they can be copypasted without hassle.
>>
>>19287873

The govkar mandibles are used for mostly hunting and combat. They are sharp and powerful allowing the govkar to quickly kill creatures with one good bite of their mandibles.

For actual eating, they have little use. The govkar have a fanged beak like mouth, that they use to slice apart food and then break it down with hard teeth like bony plates deeper inside their mouth.

The govkar, when fighting each other, often use their mandibles to try to bite the neck of their opponent, or cut off tentacles. Their strong claws often are locked against each other, as they start to wrestle against each other, while their smaller arms are rapidly clawing against the opponent.

The govkar try to avoid getting anything but their own claws in the way of the opponent's claws, as the crab like arms are capable of crushing the exosceleton of the govkars quite easily. By locking their claws together, they keep themselves safe from being killed that easily.

For the matter of twin suns, would they look separate in the sky, or would they appear as one. I'm concerned about this due to the Burrahn creation myth, in which there is only one sun, Kraless.

>>19287802
Don't be afraid to make up your own name for this planet. The Burrahn name for the world (more specifically the earth god) is Iyzili.
>>
>>19287945

I think that for resources, it could be simple things like areas with abundant fish, fruits and prey creatures.
I kinda liked the ideas for random encounters Gaghiel posted here: >>19285805

IG stated that he wouldn't put minerals and other higher tech stuff on the maps right away, as it would become too easy for us.

In my mind, the markers could indicate both resource type things, as well as environmental things such as denser areas of the forest, shallow part of the river for easier crossing, tall tree useful for scouting, animal migration paths, nesting areas, drinking ponds and so on.
>>
>>19287966
Perhaps in the course of a cycle, the sun which the world faces alternates. Day 1, sun A. Night. Day 2, sun B. Night. Day 3, sun A... you get the idea. If they are both a similar class of stars, say... yellow main sequence, then for all the natives know, it's just the once sun coming back every morning. Imagine their shock when they find out such is not the case later in history!
>>
>>19288016
That's actually pretty much what I was going to do. Dang, there are either a number of mind readers on 4chan or my thoughts are somehow abnormally "loud" telepathically. Ha ha ha.
>>
>>19287966

This.
Only the semi canonical bord empire calls the world Borgas IV.
The Zu-nul for example call the world Seen-kel Hazu, which means "Desert of the Worms" in their tongue.
The Zu-nul think that the world is the desert they live in. They aren't aware of the other continents, and only barely aware of the plains on the southern side of the desert.
>>
>>19287958

Sounds like in that case the Silith are going to be removing them once we develop spears, bows and animal husbandry/farming. Based on the way this tribe works, they'll possibly see the mandibles as barbaric, a remembrance of times when they hunted as little more then barely sentient savages.

The Silith and Gwiliak may be from the same species, but I'm getting the feeling they're going to look drastically different once civilization rolls around.
>>

>>
>>19288083

That's what I find interesting in other people playing races I developed.
They can take them to directions I didn't even think about.
I was so disappointed when the other Suzumou player dropped out during the central tribal thread, and in the western continent no one even picked hoppas.
It's good that you and others seem to be interested in playing govkars as well. It provides the world with much needed variety.
>>
>>19288173

Did a few erase/repair of the Govkar to see how they look without the mandibles, and I must say they actually look quite a bit different without them.

Hell, I don't know how far the body manipulation might go, although I know we're not going to just start cutting off the pincers due to them being outdated, although we might find them to be seen as monstrously barbaric if used against another Govkar.
>>
>>19288025
Although it slipped my mind, they were the sort of tribe that would have star charts, structures to line up with celestial bodies with the seasons, etc. Also, the beliefs have been present for generations, so someone would have noticed such a thing in that time. Kiknau is old, but despite her age, her mind is a sharp as ever. She keeps herself firmly in power by making it seem that her wisdom can't be replaced. She spins lies and tales that strike fear to the hearts of her children, and cause them to seek her guidance, and think that they depend on her wisdom to pull through bleaker times.

The whole contest of popularity many of her children are engaged in is just one of her tricks that keep her children from directly opposing her, unifying or trying to claim her status. She cares not much for Daki, and her self assured and inflated ego, nor does she fancy Nufa and his jealousy towards his sister. The younger children are who she is interested in. Hakel, Jun and Macia all have qualities other than trying to out compete their siblings.
Hakel's extreme curiosity and ingenuity bring new information and skills to the tribe, while Jun's stable, diligent and loyal nature improve the workings of the tribe as a whole. Macia shows great potential too, but she seems to also be drawn to the fake contest Kiknau's two less gifted children have vested themselves. Because of this, Kiknau assigned Macia to scouting duty, so that she would be kept away from the influence and potential harm caused by Daki. Macia's family won't grow very big this way, but she'll gain valuable experiences that will benefit the descendants of the whole tribe for ages to come.

Dakia and Nufa are valuable too, of course. They provide the tribe with the numbers and the strength that it needs to survive, but unfortunately, their personalities aren't suited for ruling others, and thus they are distracted by their struggle to beat one another. This way, they both leave their weaker siblings mostly alone, and won't unify against Kiknau.
This same tactic worked with Nikatin and Likanat, and it has thus far worked with Daki and Nufa.

I plan on having these five siblings having a major effect on the development of the tribe in the long run, despite the fact that they'll die eventually. I plan on trying to develop a society system that I can't recall being used by any of the tribes as of yet. The different traits of Kiknaus children will mark the family lines and perfect them into mentalities that all work towards the good of the tribe in their own specialties.

Nufa is in charge of hunting for the tribe. He is a masterful tracker, but often, and he is very knowledgeable about the fauna of the marshes.

His recklessness and pride however often cause him problems, especially when he is in competition against Daki. His jealousy overpowers his better sense and often causes him to take foolhardy risks in his attempt to bring her sister down a notch.

This kind of recklessness caused him to loose his first born to a balloon dahon, as his family was chasing a swamp boomer, that was also pursued by Daki's hunters. In order to get to the boomer first, he ordered his hunters to jump swiftly across the tangled roots, disregarding the fact they were under high canopy. His son was caught by a balloon dahon's hairlike tentacles, and poisoned. This experience caused him to resent his sister even more, as he blames her for the loss of his first, and the potentially greatest son.

Although Daki is a better hunter than Nufa, she is tasked with guarding the village. Her ego blinds her to the fact that Kiknau is simply keeping her under constant watch, as her family is the strongest one of them, and Daki is the greatest threat to Kiknau's rule. Daki simply believes that her family's freedom from hunting is a reward from her mother, and often flaunts this as proof of her superiority to her siblings. Nufa has sought to oust Daki from her spot, but has always somehow failed in the competitions and ritualistic battles that would have determined that.

And now to sleep for reals.

Also concerning the mandible removal, maybe upon removal they turn the removed mandibles into spears, which are then given to the Silith they removed them from?

fortue: i asked if you are in the state that is abbreviated C.A..

Continuing work on the skulk physiology- at this point any variation of the skulk seen is pretty viable. they are like humans, some of us have this, some of us have that. some skulks have hand tentacles, some back, some hair, some a mix some all. some noses, others not. I would like to cover the suggestion that the skulks have a form of pheramone control or suggestion. perhaps captured individuals are so overwhelmed that they become placated and are highly suggestible while in the skulks care. One thing i do not need or what the game to get into is fap fic status, but i think the skulks are not biologically capable or even have the same plumbing as the rest of the species on the planet, but they would have a close non functional approximation in some cases in which to further bend captured individuals to their will, or perhaps even allow "love can bloom". that's as far as it needs to go.

Nad, im would like to take your mutuated govkar to the next level, perhaps showing advanced stages of the transformation some of them would undergo. pictures incoming.

fortune again, because this thread updates so fucking fast. that monster, and the krulb are what happens when im given free reign of an evolution game and decide to turn off the limits. the first is a gestalt creature. a hobby of mine, a combination of a plant, and a living organism. the second, is what happens when i say "make it more fucking metal"
>>
>>19294393

I am kinda thinking that the mutations in the govkar bearing the skulk like traits vary.
Some of them can be very mutated like in your picture, while others might only have few photosynthetic spots on their head tentacles.

This way, there would be a lot of variance within the mutated govkars. Some of them could even pass as normal govkar, due to the fact that they have so little mutations.

Despite the fact that they are called skulk born and such things, they aren't actually under the control of the skulks, at least not when they are born. Some of them join the skulks because of the persecution of the normal govkar, which causes them to believe that the skulks would be good for them, while others just wander the marshes aimlessly.

Also, I'd like to know where you will be placing your tribe due to reasons here:>>19286007

>>19295252

Behold. the Zal'zaz'siel (Zahl-zahz-seel). dwelling in the northern swamps, cold snaps during the winter require tools, warmth etc. none of its available to start with. they are a very new tribe, their mother tree and many tribe members were killed by a violent Govkar tribe. They were fairly isolated skulks to begin with, but now in order to survive the have banded with the most mutated outcasts of the Govkar that were willing to follow them to escape persecution. they seek a quiet life of peace and kinship. too much has been lost.
---------------
skulks and govkar "mutants" exist in about a 75/25% ratio. their culture practices piercing, tattoo and occasional body modification...their primary concerns will be staying hidden and surviving the winter.
>>
>>19296800

This will be interesting...
Do the skulks hibernate during the winter?
I am not sure about the govkar. I never really thought about how they would live in the north. I am not even sure if they are warm blooded. They are some sort of insectoid dinosaur looking things, so it could go either way. Their head tentacles evolved in the first place to ease them to vent heat, and their ancestors were night time predators so I think that they might be warm blooded afterall.

Whew, 9 tribes! that's a doozy. Especially with a big map.
By the way, you've noticed that the tribes' starting areas are smaller than the ones in the West and Central. This is intentional because we're going into a hi-def mode, where more details are fleshed out. And that per-post development is progressing slower here than the other continents, due to the additional details.

Eh, the current one's allright with me. Make a new one if you want, but that will have to have a little story in-game, and a bit later on.
The Rift is the result of a great tectonic shift that revealed the underground caves populated by LemUy microbes and organisms. The part near you is submerged, and it flows like a river, so I can say it's a river as well. The Rift in general looks like some sort of valley.
>>
>>19297108

Ng, you can always try to migrate towards more suitable areas. Perhaps your tribe simply was forced to escape to the north, but now finds it extremely inhostibitable. They could start moving back to south, avoiding hostile govkars and other dangers as well as they can, while trying to run away from the coming winter.

The Nad'lun didn't stay in their starting location either, so moving across the map wouldn't be anything really new.

A tribe of Creative Joorods, calling themselves the Ca'rethill, have taken up residence by a shallow bay alongside the southern coast. The years they've lived here have been rough, but perhaps this is the time where things start to go well for them.
Three fishing groups are dispatched near the village: One across from the small islands, two on opposite sides of the bay. They dig open the paths from their ponds to the ocean, and work as groups to chase fish into the small trenches. With the activity, they need to avoid attracting Aggressive Joorod attention.

The Zal'Zaz'Siel unique tribe members are daughter, the twins, voice, predator, the courtesan, and Buzku.

The daughter is their leader, and was badly injured, set to be joined to the mother tree more as a gift then necessity. she like the rest of the survivors are of the youngest who fled. Her knowledge is substantial despite her injuries.

The twins were training to be the tribes hunters, but their own impromptu training and intense hate of the Govkar tribe that destroyed their village have made them more of graceful murderers then anything else. they will go out of the way to murder non affiliated govkar, even against the wishes of the daughter.

Voice was one of the old tribe story-singers, as well as a courtesan (one able and trained to communicate/ interact with foreign tribes and individuals, taught to subtly influence others thru charm and wit) now she opens her mouth but nothing comes out. the horrors inflicted on her during the govkar raid are her's alone to know.
>>
Predator is the oldest of the tribe, and quite possibly the least sentient. Words are rarely spoken, they are a waste, thoughts rarely pondered, they are unnecessary. Hunting, killing, this is best. Predator is tolerated due to its usefulness. The creature is of a more archaic lineage of skulk, muscular and savage. It does not like fire.

The courtesan is a keeper of art, stories, and lore. What little was taught to her, as she was being taught herself. The title is more of a barb at what was lost, then what she is. she tries to act the part. What skills she does have are utilized around the camp.

Finally we have Buzku, he and his ilk were picked up in their flight, during the genocide of their tribe the Govkar began to kill some of their deviant tribe members, the only option was to accept death with obedience or retreat. They found themselves running with the Skulks that night and haven't stopped yet.

after many nights and days of running they finally made a break out of the thickest part of the swamp. The air here was colder, and the water was frozen slush in parts but they had evaded their pursuers. the strangest thing about this area was the light...the light from the sky, the swamp forest was not so thick as to completely block out the sky.

They would need to assess their situation and surroundings. All individuals emptied packs, bags, and satchels to see what they had managed to grab in the frantic escape. ---- The immediate (local) area would have to be explored to determine danger (predators, environmental), resources (prey, edible plants, useful material), and shelter. The Crater Rattle resides deep within the frilla forest on the interior peninsula of the Rift. Their territory is clearly marked with x-shaped slashes in the larger foliage, created by their raking claws. Their hunting grounds expand to cover most of the interior peninsula.

They are led by a Hollowborn who I'll be referring to as Mangrove, pending any more interesting name coming up. It is assisted by a former Skulk who I'll call Owl-Face and a construct-type Skulcrow I've nicknamed No-Face.

Are they going to be like a tribe, or are they just more organized predators?

Anyways, here is a proper startup for my tribe.
After the Higitain was driven away, the Gwiliak returned to their normal duties.
Flooding that had occurred during the last major rainfall had caused some damage to the village, while also hampering the tribe's efforts at hunting.
Because they lack any proper ways of storing food in the humid and relatively warm environment, the tribe is somewhat starved.

Kiknau, the tribe's leader orders Nufa, as well as Daki to take their families for a hunt. Hakel's family is tasked with repairing the damage done to the village, both by the Higitain and the floods, Jun is told to start gathering food such as azrach fruits and trying to catch small water critters with trap baskets. Kiknau also tells Macia, her youngest child with a family, to scout out the areas up river, in case there were any potential damned up swamp lakes ready to bust and flood the downriver areas again. Don't feel intimidated by my rather more extensive style. You can easily start with much simpler stuff, and in fact I would recommend that, as I am simply digging a hole for myself with all these characters to deal with.

You already have the logo and creature picture. You could just draw a simple picture of some tools your tribe uses, and the general layout of their village.

And thanks, I just had to draw that picture. Of course, Daki wouldn't use internet age insults to make fun of her little brother's failure, but the general tone of her insults would pretty much be the same.
Did you notice the filename btw?
>>
>>19299567
Yeah I noticed that only made me laugh again. I've had a shitty morning but that cheered me right up.

My only worry about art is just how slow I am at it without a tablet or some similar tool. Pencil and paper, I can knock 'em out very quickly. Mouse and digital takes a while, especially to get to the quality that my perfectionist self will ever let it see the light of day.

Oh no it's already started? Time to start rolling!

We came to these lands seeking a better life, and it is our duty to continue what our predecessors started. May the ancestors watch over us from the Unending Sky, and the Twin Suns find mercy, in all our future endeavors.

This is good land, away from the Marsh where our brethren fought in endless fear and disgust of the witches who dwelt within. With tooth and claw, hand and stone, we will lay the foundations for a future for the Silith.

In the end, it was four individuals and seven younglings that made it to the end of the journey; Finnik, Ganis, Arag and Maril. As the younglings have not completed their Rite of Passage, they have not earned names.

Rolling for scouting for a consistent food source, proper shelter, nearby useable resources, and hunting success

Also, doing research for the Gantu, looking up Hawaiian culture and what not... just, damn.
I had no idea...
I knew that Hawaii was the only US state taken forcibly (they didn't want to be a state at all) but I had no idea that the culture *itself* was suffering. Hawked off and diluted by tourism industry, the language coming *very* close to extinction until recently.

Feels bad, man.
>>
>>19298880
I approve, but as a precaution, you'll be playing an 'antagonist' entity, which is almost sentient but not quite so. In short, your 'tribe' if it can be called so, cannot create new technologies, or use advanced tools from the other tribes. That cool?

>>19299440
It seems like Daki managed to hunt down the Higitain that was marauding the village. Nufa, however, came home empty-handed. Repairs are going slow because of the onset of the rainy season. The scouts return home and report that there is no potential dammed-up areas upstream, but that's about it. The traps didn't snag anything, the Azrach isn't in their fruiting season, and overall morale seems to be a bit low.

I almost have it in reverse. After I started using a tablet and a computer for drawing, my skills started to noticeably increase. I can draw decently on paper, but with computer and a tablet, I can draw much better. I think that it is because it is much easier to correct ones mistakes when it's all digital.
The sense of difference might however simply be because I am not that skilled at drawing and painting by hand. I have pretty much self learned my somewhat decent skills by simply drawing shitty doodles my whole life.
Digital drawing grants me tools whose effects I can't replicate on paper, such as proper coloring, which helps me make better looking drawings.
Pic related. There is no way I could make this kind of thing on paper.

But anyways, you aren't in a hurry at all. Ig and Ng are probably absent for some right now, so you have plenty of time to prepare your drawings for tribal. And besides, drawings aren't even needed that much in this stage, and even if you want to use many of them like I do, it usually won't set you back that much, as the tribes are all kinda on their own time scales.
Check out the central tribal thread, in which I had a some narrative about one Suzumou, that took relatively long for me to finish, during which one other tribe built a massive fortress. The only way to make sense of that situation was that the narrative had already happened when the fortress, which would have taken many years to complete was finished. Because really, it doesn't take 5 years for an egg to hatch, does it now?

Though this kind of events are one of the major reasons I wish these tribal games went along slower. In my mind, these are still just the seeds of the proper civilizations, and in this stage, the characters have greater importance due to the smaller scale of things.
We have plenty of time for civ building after this stage.

Yeah, I kind of need to switch gears from evolution, talking about the species as a whole. I'm still thinking on a larger level, in the way of "Neanderthals, at this stage began to migrate northwards towards Europe".
You're writing a combo of slice-of-life and epic* narrative.
I'm writing historical overview.
I can do both, but so far I seem to be having trouble making the stylistic switch. :P

* (in the real sense of the word "epic", not the overused memetic bastardization)
>>
>>19299703

Well seems that I was wrong about you being absent.
A pleasant surprise!

Although the Higitain will provide enough food for now, Kiknau is still concerned about securing more food. Due to the fact that they can't properly store food, the tribe has to have at least somewhat steady supply of edibles.

When big kills like this happen, the whole tribe feasts upon the kill, bloating themselves with food, so that they have ample fat reserves in case of a long streaks of hunting and gathering failures. Mating also often takes place during this type of feasts, as the ample amount of food allows the mothers to fuel their egg production. Govkars lay 3-5 eggs in one patch, which they then place in small "beds" made from ngung silk to keep them warm. The eggs will hatch after about 5 weeks, and the young will grow into adulthood into adolescence in about 4-7 years, depending on the amount of food they have during their growth. The younglings learn extremely fast, which is important for their future survival.

cont.

Hekel finds the sharp claws and fangs of the Higitain intriguing. He has witnessed the killing power they hold, as well as the rate in which they can tear down the azrach branches. He is also interested in the hard exoskeleton of the creature. The Higitains are almost impervious to damage. Daki was only able to kill it after blinding it and plunging her claws deep into it's eye sockets and causing terrible, terrible damage to it's brains. He starts trying to figure out ways to use the carcass of the creature.

Meanwhile Jun is ordered to climb to the top of the canopy, and search for any keerbs or young dahons and dahon eggs within the branch pools.

The rest of the tribe rests, although Daki and Nufa are fighting against each other, while Macia is teaching majority of the younglings, even the ones from her siblings families, as her brother and sister are failing in that duty.

Rolling for inventing uses for the claws, fangs and shell of the higitain, searching for food in the high canopy and teaching.

(Roll is for this discovery if accepted)
>>
>>19299988

Oh come ON.
>>
>>19299988

Well in general, I think that it should stay under 10.
Making multiple rolls in one post saves time and is less hard on the post count of the thread, allowing it to live longer.

I think that the number of rolls should be kinda related to the size of the tribe too, because in my mind, the rolls are for actions that are done shortly after each other, or even simultaneously by different members of the tribe.
>>
>>19299988
As many as needed at a given time. Do note that /tg/ has a max dice number of 25, although I can't fathom why you should need that many dice in these games. And oh, the youngling created... something... that almost resembled modern art if you squint at it.

>>19299801
The Higitain's claws can be turned into sickles, which could also be used to hang around in thick branches, or like a climbing piton. The fangs are used as small knives and spearheads, while the armor could be used for personal protection and the bigger pieces could be used to improve their dwellings. Meanwhile, Jun finds an abundance of Dahon eggs and Keerbs, as well as a carcass of a big Dahon. The tribe will grow fatter. In the meantime, due to Jun's discovery and the subsequent feasts, the younglings' education was interrupted a bit.

Kiknau is pleasantly surprised by this development. With the overabundance of food, the tribe can grow.
Hakel's inventions also catch her interest. She orders that all higitains found either dead or wounded shall be harvested for their useful parts. Nufa and Daki, despite the great feast and relatively happy times the rest of the tribe is going through, still find time to argue about who should get the new weapons and armor Hakel made. Macia's attempts at diplomacy are ignored, as Daki simply smacks her aside.

"Fight!! We duel for the pointy sticks and hard skin!! When I win! I get them all! I challenge you brother!, Dakia yells.

Nufa's pride forces him to agree, and within moments, the siblings enter another ritualistic duel of strength, while their mates and children cheer for them and the rest of the tribe watch with varying degrees of interest, as this kind of thing isn't exactly new between the two.

The other three families "get busy" while the Daki and Nufa, with the slight extension of their families are engaged in yet another brawl. After that, Hakel attempts to find a way to store some of their food a little longer, as they simply couldn't eat that much, while Jun takes the role of the teacher. Macia is again, ordered to scouting duty, as Kiknau was quite worried that she would get in the middle of Daki's and Nufa's "disagreements again, which could have led to more serious injuries to her than simply a black eye.

Rolling for both Dakia and Nufa for winning the duel, mating (do I need to roll for this?), storing food, teaching and scouting the perimeter of the village for threats.

I was not so ignorant. As the others went off to improve the camp, I went back to the beach, working on what the youngling, my grand-daughter, had created.

>>
>>19301865

You wait, generally.
>>
>>19301865

Seeing how you only made one roll, you could perhaps roll a few more.
Usually, we tend to wait for either IG or NG to give us roll results, but at one point during the central tribal thread, we began to self police our rolls, which kinda cheapened the game imho.

It is unfortunate, but due to how the tribal games work, they tend to be slower.

But generally, if you want to decide the results of your rolls yourself, Ng posted the rules according to how you can decide:

>Rules are simple, role play a tribe, roll a 1d20 for attempts at progress. 1-5 is massive failure, 6-8 is a minor failure, 9-12 is a meh with no real progress made, 13-16 is a success, and 17-20 is a great success. Failures usually are a disaster of some sort. Story telling and tribal development are rewarded above an arms race.
>>
>>19301924
Here's an example. Not really giving my own results.
I rolled a 20 for searching for water, and a 6 for boomer hunting. If I were to determine my results myself, I'd say that I found something better than some azrachs holding water. I say that a stream was found durring the search. The boomer hunt on the other hand, would have failed. Nobody would be hurt, but no usable remains would be found, as the boomers would burn up after detonation.

Macia is the youngest of the siblings who have families. She is energetic, and cheery, and overall, much more pleasant and helpful towards her siblings than her older sister Daki is.

Kiknau sheltered Macia from Daki, who had already broken the spirit of Jun during her childhood. Daki has always seen the other female siblings as potential threats to her rule, and by bullying them she has tried to make them submit to her authority.
By keeping Daki away from Macia in her childhood, she managed to develop strong will and was not as easily pushed around by her elder sister.

Daki sees her as the greatest threat to her claim of the leadership and thus she uses every opportunity she gets to pull Macia down.
Macia shares similar competitive personality traits as Daki, and often tries and sometimes even succeeds at besting her sister. She is far less aggressive and authoritative than and far more social than Daki however, and most importantly, she is interested in the wellbeing of the whole tribe, unlike Daki who is far too shortsighted for that, and is only waiting to take her mother's place as the ruler.

Kiknau is trying to train Macia into her replacement, as she does not trust in Daki's ability to lead and treat her siblings well in the process, Nufa is too reckless and jealous of his sister, Jun is incabable of giving commands or leading and Hakel is too unfocused to be a proper ruler. Thus, Kiknau is slowly schooling Macia to the duty of the leader. She might have a family already, but she still has much to learn about what it takes to keep the chaotic mess that is their tribe under control.

For now just a standard "mid-game" Silith would do.

They'd have dark red shells at this point, almost black, with the mandibles removed. They'd have engravings along the headplates that denote where they're from and what caste they are, the engravings filled with the same extract they use to dye their head tentacles a luminous teal. Their claws would be smaller, perhaps atrophied while their graspers have gotten bigger.

No idea what they'd look like in Armor, or what Govkar armor would look like anyway. I'm getting very, VERY strong Halo Elite vibes from what they'd look like though.
>>
I was wondering should i start to decide more what my rolls mean as my exodus will be long and it would be nice if i would be able to end it before other races have nuclear weapons. But on the other hand it would be boring for me and other if i were the one who decides random encounters etc.

That's kinda the reason why I haven't decided on my rolls. It just sucks the intrigue out of the game, if I can decide what happens, even within the borderlines of the roll results.
>>
>Their claws would be smaller, perhaps atrophied while their graspers have gotten bigger.

Actually now that I say that, it's a shame in a way that the claws are the shoulder pair while the graspers are the ones on the chest... And I take that part back from the description, since having the shoulder pair being weaker then the chest pair would only mean you have less weapon arms then the other guy.
>>
>>19303417

I would decide your rolls for you if i had even little imagination.

Exodus of Kharum goes slowly as every elder and child slows the speed. When someone is giving birth the tribe stops for awhile and continues when the mother has enough strength to carry the newborn. Elderly, on the other hand, are a bigger problem as they cannot be carried and they tend to get sick. This is why sometimes as elder sees that he is being a hindrance for the tribe, he might leave the tribe at night and never to be seen again.

Fluff time.

First of all, I'd like to clarify just what sort of playstyle the Skulcrow are going to be exhibiting. The word "Rattle" is simply a collective noun (an unkindness of ravens, a sleuth of bears, etc) and not any denomination of a "tribe" mentality. Skulcrow are by no means sentient, and are actually barely intelligent to begin with. They act entirely on instinct save for the Hollowborn, who are able to think and plan on a relatively intellectual level. The Hollowborn, as well as their chosen "Alpha" lieutenants, lead a Rattle by using the All-Thought to transfer their emotions and desires to the entire group. Common directives include things like "want to collect things" and "meaningless rage."

Skulcrow hunt in small groups of three to four, occasionally led by an Alpha if the directive is thought to be particularly difficult or if the area is dangerous enough to require a unit with more power to accompany the scavengers.

And now we get into individuals.

First up, Hollowborn of the Crater Rattle, Mangrove.
It is a very old Skulcrow, possibly still in its first iteration since the Hollowborn rose. It has collected the memories of thousands of dead Regulars, killed at its hand for lem replenishment and memory transfusion. It has no powerful desire other than self-preservation and hunger for experiences. It will often send hunting groups out for days to find new sights and sounds for its enjoyment.

Mangrove is quite gifted with the All-Thought, and can influence his Rattle over a massive distance. This precision has come with generations of fine-tuning, and can be used to deadly effect. When its hand is forced, it can unleash emotions so strenuous that targeted recipients explode in a shower of carapace and twisted, irritating lem.

(symptoms of corrupted lem exposure include: skin irritation and blistering, occasionally leading to fever, pain in the joints, madness, dehydration, and a dull ache)

The first of the two Alphas, Owl-Face, is made almost entirely from a single Skulk. The only obvious alteration is its large lem spire-lance, which it uses to add to its large collection of corpses that it stores beneath Mangrove's roots. Owl-Face is very protective of its corpse-hoard, and eager to add to it as well. Owl-Face is usually seen accompanying directed hunting groups through the plains as they collect new flesh for the Rattle.

Owl-Face is very fast on foot, and its sharp spire-lance makes it a formidable foe on open ground. It prefers to avoid the deeper jungles though.

No-Face is spectacularly tall for a Skulcrow and its long, spindly limbs give it a strange silhouette against the jungle vegetation. No-Face rarely stalks prey, but when it does it prefers sentient individuals lost within the Frilla forest. A strange fog of airborne lem seems to follow it, obscuring vision and occasionally carrying on it a hint of the All-Thought. Never enough to influence an individual directly, but usually a strong enough message to cause a little nervousness. The fog makes it feel as though No-Face is nowhere and everywhere at once, especially just beyond your visual range.

after hibernating for a million hours, Im finally free. Its time to conquer earth.

Alright, lets get this party started. The Kaze tribe is enjoying their most recent festival of Rain when they start to run out of things to feed to the All Mother. So its time for a hunting expedition. Wave and Two Eye go fishing, while Shadow and Swift wander into the jungle. Frilla takes this time to try and approach some Glider Boomers so she can learn more about them (maybe even capture one or lure it back to camp to be a pet). And Kamen is going to be tending the All Mother's needs and overseeing the return of one of the Singers to the Tree to welcome a new skulk to the tribe.

Going to expand a little on Ca'rethill culture. It's going to be an abridged version with horrible wordings compared to when they tell it themselves.

Creation Myth:
A story older than the tribe itself. Before the land, sea, or sky, there were two slumbering godlings drifting in the aethers of the void. Their names were Tellicsh the Nurturing and Ommarn the indomitable. Eons went by until they were awoken by a bright light. They created a place to stand so they could observe it. Eventually, they grew hungry, so they made food and water. After that, the gods grew bored, so they created life to entertain them. Things were good for some time, until the two got into a fight over what was better, the widespread and populous grazers, or the large and powerful predators. Many dangerous creatures were born from this spat such as the Boomers and Slizers. Eventually, they got over it, and decided to have a little competition: to create the better creature in their own image. Tellicsh made the Joorod, and Ommarn made the Aggressive Joord.

phew...

Thanks again, Anonymous Drawbro. Part of me wishes that you'd get a name, that we could properly worship you (ha ha) when you arrive, but that sort of defeats the purpose of an anonymous board, doesn't it?

Kind of thought about that while running Fortune, yesterday. I wanted to comment on a player's idea, but I worried that if I did it with my name it'd be immediately taken as canon. Seeing as I want Fortune to be about the players that wasn't what I wanted. I ended up saying my piece as an Anon, so that my words wouldn't be given more weight than I wanted.

So, then, instead of me questioning the viability of it, and the idea getting killed instantly, the players discussed it and worked out a solution that led to something ten times more awesome than anything I could have come up with myself.

It's generally best to wait for results.
>>
Bumping, but also, might as well ask, now is as good a time as any.

I see you guys rolling for food and what no and I've got to wonder, is there actually some sort of statistic for this that we need to keep track of, or do we just roll to see if we have "enough".

Basically, I'm wondering if it's a required detail or if I can safely forget it and focus on narrative.
>>
>>19306087
I think it's more of a way of telling whether a place is suitable for settling, or if it's just best to move on.
>>
>>19306209
So it'd be a thing for more nomadic tribes, then?

Man, both here and Fortune are incredibly slow right now. Since it's still daytime where I am I'll do what I can to keep it bumped every hour or so (or should I perhaps wait longer?)
>>
>>19306087

Way I see it, rolling for food means establishing a consistent source, which as NO TRIP said is a sign of a good living area. A high roll will mean it has bountiful food which translates into supporting a bigger population.

Hunting is also one of those things where a random event is much more likely to occur then, say, working on building a hut. A nat 20 might net you a positive event while a nat 1 could net you a disaster, both of which are excellent if you want to try a unique spin on your race compared to others.

I'm interested in seeing how resource allocation plays out in this. Will it be assumed that every tribe, once ore deposits and availability of stone/wood becomes a major theme, has access to enough to fit their needs as long as the rolls allow it? Or will there be certain areas on the continent that are significant sources of, say, gold?

After all, uneven distribution of resources is one of the most easy, and ultimately profitable casus belli's you could get at this point in history. Especially if we discover a source in a tribe's borders long after we develop a taste for the resource.

I think it was said earlier that ore and metal specifically, won't be for a while, but you make a good point. I imagine even the mild-mannered Mohu'awane would be pressed into combat if facing, oh, say... starvation.

Say, I'm working on a pic, what are some big game critters that the Gantu could hunt, big predators preferably, with lots of meat on them?

Ramels. The rhino sized creatures that have axes for faces. That is, if you can get past their thick shells.
Come to think of it, they also provide most starting weapons, armor, construction materials, work animals... The list goes on.
>>
>>19308883
It's a start... anything bigger? One of the themes I'll be pursuing with the Gantu is big-game hunters. Since the Gantu are already 9-feet tall, they need something *big* to both feed them and to give their prodigious strength a challenge.

the ramel: sheds its plates with regularity as it grows. western continent ramel were stunted and only shed, they do not grow. this one, they also have a limit as to how huge they get. its elephant sized. they are noted for their total lack of metal in the bone structure, indeed their bones and horn are more like wood, making the option of bladed weapons from them unlikely. though enjoy clubbing things to death, or using them as building material. their shed plates are bio luminescent, and if kept in a humid environment will avoid break down and serve as beginner's armor and building material.

no gentlemen, the real prize on this continent for strong blades is the ramel slaughter beast, its body bristling with blades or any of its prior evolutions, or even if you want to be a prick, the good natured Gantu have a high concentration of metal in their horn and bones, its why the horn has a metallic sheen.

Silith found plenty of small Azrach bushes and Vindra tubers growing near their village. They manage to build shelter from the plentiful Tapascu that surrounds their village; Meanwhile, a hunter had managed to find lots of Boomer and Ramel herbivores. The tribe is having a full belly for months to come.
They also managed to make axes to cut the woody Tapascu trees near their village, made from rock shards they find closer to the coast. Due to the lush vegetation that surrounds their village, they can't expand their settlements yet. Instead, they took Tapascu spikes, and used them as fences and to indicate the border of their village.
They do, however, manage to build a storage house atop an Azrach tree, safe from potential predators. It is also big enough to store a year's worth of food.
With shelter and food reserves secured, the Silith threw a small festival, and gets busy (if you know what I mean).

daughter-a govkar ate her fruit, she was to be prepared union with the mother tree. Tattoos were applied, songs were sung, piercings were placed. Then the tribe was massacred and the tree was torched. for what ever reason, she did not die, not turn to skulcrow. Though she hears perpetual whispers, and seems to always be elsewhere, even when engaged in active conversation. Strange smiles occasionally cross the leaders lips in her private moments. And a biological change has taken place within her, though despite their concerns, for now Daughter remains the closest thing they have to a willing leader.

The twins- they did not take the death of their home, family and afterlife well. Indeed, they wear the exoskeletons of female govkar they hollowed out themselves. it was delicious.

Voice- captured, claws clipped, subjected to unspeakable acts, robbed of song from a destroyed throat, stabbed, bitten and eaten from, an eye gouged, cut open and slowly roasted. All while an old crone observed, ever encouraging the mob of attacking govkar to further acts of violence. The biology of the Skulk was a curse at this point, refusing to let her die easily. At the apex of this murder in progress a group of mutant govkar put stop to it. After her it was them next anyway, a time to kill the freaks, all of them the old crone said, so they spent their lives the best they could - striking back. few escaped, the skulk corpse they ran away with turned out to be alive yet. Days on the run lead them to the fragmented survivors of the destroyed skulk tribe. With them they would have to seek refuge. With them perhaps Voice would live again.

in the grim darkness of the swamps there is only war.

Don't worry, your tribe's mentality fits here just fine. It reflects the relatively pleasant environment they live in. The Gwiliak live in a horrible marsh, so they will of course be much less cheery.

And besides, it's not like this kind of differences in mentality have happened before. The Nad'lun were very much laid back when compared to the northern tribes. The hoppas had some internal conflicts, but overall they were living the easy life, farming, sailing the river, building new small villages, herding and drinking hrass rum. Meanwhile the northern tribes were waging war.

I have no plans the change 'em, thought I did wonder if they wouldn't be some kind of equivalent to the Shire if things get ugly, a calm amidst the storm.

I mentioned earlier that I wanted to develop my tribe's religion a bit, is this something I would roll for, what would happen if I fail?
I made a few different stages of development, as time went on, as they get more advanced, the Mohu'awane will begin hammering out the details of their belief system.

(also, listening to a new band, japanese tribal techno... wtf? I like it.)

dude! no. i would not have it any other way. never change unless you find it fun. honestly. life isint all bad ya know? your tribe shows a positive side to the world, the joorodo are near you, as are some other guys that are friendly. its not all grimdark. besides, the lem were friendly enough. the enclave is...sorta...kinda...humanitarian. They really havnt done anything too evil. Mostly out to save the world at best. At worst, they have no idea they are a giant war machine that will engulf the planet in its machinations (which is to protect the overall life of the plant, at any cost) over the next few eras.

tl/dr dont worry about your tribes flavor. the more radical the mix, the better the story.
