>Let me explain what happened: My grandfather was on the way to starting up a successful ranch up here. Would have led to more jobs and a more productive local economy.

>One of the worst kept secrets in America is that the federal government doesn't want Alaskans to fully develop available natural resources because we'd have a strong enough economy to form a separate nation with no real concerns. and they've fucked us hard enough in the past that there's still a simmering secessionist movement up here.

>So they up and decide to turn all currently developed land into national parks, and prevent us from ever developing like 90% of our state's potential, ever. Since my Grandpa's Ranch was surrounded by undeveloped land he was trying to buy, he got completely fucked. along with most of the local farmers/ranchers.

>They also try and keep mining as repressed as possible, because 'pretty trees' even though we have like a million fucking acres of beautiful scenic landscapes that aren't in the way of any of our proposed mining projects.

>So since my entire family, since we came to America way back when comes from mining/ranching/farming..... Yeah.

YOU ARE ALEX RASTON.

Yesterday, you met Laurie's father, discovered Dervish is either a masochist or considerably more skilled then you originally thought.

You disentangle yourself from Elsie, and note that Ari apparently fell asleep on the couch last night playing her game.

You hear someone in the kitchen, apparently cooking breakfast.

You head to the kitchen and see Lawrence is up early.

And not looking like he's hung over.

You're actually startled slightly by this development.

He notices you walking in. "Hey Alex. How'd last night go?"

[ ] Talk to him about his Dad.

"It went.... alright. You talked to Zack yet?"

"No, why?"

"I guess I get to tell you then."

He looks at you while moving the hash-browns off the fire. "Tell me what."

"Well.... turns out that the Captain was your dad."

He's silent for a long moment. "You're sure?"

"Him and Zack talked about it, and he's convinced."

"He say why he abandoned us?" He seems to be trying and failing to hold a bitter undertone from his voice.

"I didn't get the whole story out of him, but I think Zack did. The little I heard indicated that he got trapped somewhere when the shit hit the fan, and when he got back raiders had hit up your old house after you abandoned it."

You watch him, and for a long, slow few minutes the two of you just stand the.

"Hey. Laurie." He looks at you "You gonna be alright?"

".... I don't know. I need to talk to Zack, you mind finishing up here?" He gestures to the stove.

"Sure." A few minutes after he leaves the crew begins to wake up and trickle in. You set aside a plate for Laurie, and talk to....

>They just have to say they suspect drugs, and never ever return it. You can't legally force them them to.

>I remember one case where this guy, who had a medical marijuana license, in a place where it was totally legal, got in the way of the parks service developing a 'wilderness trail' where his house was. DEA took the land and sold it under the table to them in less than 24 hours. By the time he won the case the land he had rightfully owned was kept from him by federal law, and he was instead given the money made from the sale. "So Dave, since we have a day or two, do you have any plans for the day?"

"Actually yes. I was going to place some calls so I could get some better equipment and restock on medical supplies."

"How much is that going to cost?"

"Not a lot. I know some people, and I can get some hand me downs from the local hospitals as far as something like a X-Ray goes."

"And we're low on supplies? What happened to them?"

"Well, you've eaten almost all the painkillers, and taken about half the bandaging. Then there's the various bumps and bruises we get with our mechanics since we've had them going almost non-stop since we got here. All in all we're not completely out, but I don't have enough to properly handle an emergency."

"Like what?"

"Like one of our missile pods getting touched off. Yeah, there's safeties and such, but it's still possible. and while the casing should prevent shrapnel from flying out, the concussive force can pop ear-drums and send people flying if they're standing too close when it happens."

To start, I'd like to apologize for us taking two of your posts. If /vg/ ain't your thing, feel free to ignore us.

Hey howdy, I'm Ahab. I come here from /vg/ in hopes of attracting some of you to the Armored Core General thread. Things are pretty slow and we need all the help we can get, so we'd appreciate it if any of you could stop by to discuss Armored Core generally. Of course, V is the most discussed game at the moment as it's the most recent one, but don't let that discourage you. We can answer your questions about any of the AC games. Well, I know I can, but I'm not on all the time. Still, I make a point to respond to any post that has yet to receive a response, so long as I can give a decent answer. Of course, I'm not the only one who can do that. Now, of the people who post in the thread, I can't tell you who's experienced with what, but between all of us I'm sure we've got our bases covered. Heck, as far as ACV is concerned, we've got a guy who is consistently up near the top of the Free Battle ladder, so he definitely knows what he's talking about.

So come on over, come on in. Pull up a seat, take a load off your feet. If you want to talk ACV, fantastic, maybe the stars will align right and we can do some free battling. Need help on any of the other AC games, we can do that. Worst case scenario I'll pop in my copy and see if we can figure out a good build to help you make it through. The thread is always pretty easy to find, just open up the catalog for /vg/
http://catalog.neet.tv/vg/
and search for Armored Core. If nothing comes up, try AC. You'll likely have to sift through some results, but we've had a thread or two where Armored Core wasn't in the title or early part of the OP. Our current thread has been pointed out by >>19296009

You grab the plate, and after making sure it's still warm, you head down to talk to him.

"Hey." He doesn't respond right away. "Laurie?"

"He thought we were dead. He thought we were dead and gone. He didn't give up because he didn't care, he just thought he already failed. I'm not sure if that's better or worse, but it makes it a lot harder to hate him." you set the plate of food next to him. He starts picking at it as he continues. "I'm not really sure what to do with this. Am I supposed to go running back and make up for lost time? Should I ignore him and move on with life? Why hasn't he tried to call me yet if he knows? Does he want me to have time to try and adjust to the idea? Is he embarrassed of ashamed of himself? Maybe he's as confused as me? What the hell am I supposed to do here?"

"I'm not manipulating people, I'm not getting in their heads, and I'm not acting like some sort of puppet master. I OCCASIONALLY lead people to consider a point instead of outright saying it."

"Why not just say it?"

"Because sometimes people don't give a point of view a fair measurement if somebody just gives it to them. They have to understand how you drew that conclusion first. Remember the Dialogues?"

"....Socrates, right?"

"I'm honestly not sure how else that can be interpreted."

"That one, right there." he points at your chest "The one you're wearing." He reaches out to touch it, and as he does so you feel an intense wave of vertigo come over you. As you stumble backwards Laurie looks at you confused and vaguely concerned.

Sorry had to do bullshit so this reply is mad late

MT's were the first gen ACs, basically a modular weapon platform (like AC's) but with way limited options.

The positive side is that for one ac PART you can get 1-4 MT's. They're basically mooks you chew through, but they are there.

Shit in the AC4 timeline, where even AC's are phased out by NEXT there are still MT's. Their low price while still performing well and being modular put them at about tank level (that is to say, pussies in a mech game, but good massed).

Also they use the same controle scheme as Armored Cores, you tend to only become a raven AFTER a few years as an MT pilot, though it's more for practice then an actual requirement

NOW IGNORE ME

Thinking quickly you know that while you don't really know first aid, you DO know a doctor.

You pull out your com and call Dave.

"Hey Laurie, can this wait a minute? I'm in the middle of-"

"Alex just collapsed and puked all over himself for no reason."

"Like a seizure?"

"I have no idea! I'm not sure what a seizure looks like!"

"Alright, calm down and listen to me. I need you to do a couple of things. Is he on his back?"

"Yeah."

"Turn him on his side. GENTLY." You do so. "Is he breathing?"

"Kinda?"

"Elaborate."

"It's not real steady or deep, but he's breathing."

"Good. Now Listen, I'm going to hang up and call Elsie."

"I can go get her."

"No, I need you to stay with Alex. She knows first Aid, I'm sending her to you. Where are you at?"

"Uh, by the terminals on the south side of the hangar."

"Alright. Don't panic, but if anything happens, call me."

He hangs up. And then Alex wakes up and grabs you.

She gives you a look. "What necklace?"

"The... the one right there, on his neck...." you respond, grabbing the chain and making a dangling motion, careful not to touch the pendant itself this time.

You look at Elsie, who's just staring at your hand. "What?"

"You never noticed it before?"

"I... I don't see it...." She reaches out and touches it and then retracts her hand swiftly. "What the hell? Why can't I see it, and why did it burn?"

"Laurie? What's up?"

"Something happened to Alex. I don't know, another seizure?"

She freezes. "What?"

"I'm not sure, I came to get you and your mother."

She looks afraid, and then nods. She turns back to the house and yells at her mother, who comes outside. You explain what happened. "Oh god... Laurie, can you stay here with Kate? I don't trust her by herself so soon out of the hospital."

You nod, and hand Ari the keys as they go to the car. You go inside and see Kate watching T.V. "Hey Laurie." She says as she looks at you. Then she pauses. "What's wrong?"

"I don't know." And then you try very hard not to cry while she gives you a hug.

Alright, so there's a GO pedal, a STOP pedal, and.... a third pedal? And a numbered joystick?

Well you know that the GO pedal is the one on the right, and the STOP one is the one on the left. You opt to ignore the middle pedal.

You remember Alex trying to teach you the basics. you hold down the STOP pedal, and turn the key. The car starts. You put on your seat-belt and let off the stop pedal. you bump the joystick, and now it says '3'. You hope that wasn't important.

You push the GO pedal, and the car starts to move at a decent clip after a bit of a hop. You see your mother realize that you're driving as you approach the hangar. She then smiles at you. "Ari, you've been taking lesson? I didn't know you could drive stick."

"Drive stick?" You ask, as you push in the STOP pedal as you approach the hangar wall.

You are Mooch. And you're currently wondering why you heard something that sounded uncannily like a Jeep hitting the hangar wall.

Stepping outside, you see that a Jeep has indeed hit the wall. Dave's Jeep in fact.

Mystery solved.

Then you see Alex's Mom and Sister sitting in the car, looking slightly shocked as the car makes a terrible noise. You help them out of the car, and they seem unhurt, but you take them to Dave to make sure.

He says they're fine, just shocked. You mention car wrecks tend to do that to people.

"What car wreck?"

"You didn't hear the noise outside? I guess Laurie sent them back in your car."

"Sorry." Ari says in a small voice as she tries to hide behind Alex's prone form.

Dave calmly excuses himself from the room.

I didn't 'choose' the name Dervish, it was given to me by the Wolf pack's propaganda department after I scored 15 melee kills after being thrown from that one Chinese airship. If you were Alaskan you would have seen my pic along with the headline of 'the flying dervish'. If you were in the Pack, you would have seen me walking through the PR with a bullwhip explaining why putting the name and face of an intelligence/covert ops specialist is FUCKING STUPID.

Alex seems like a good kid, little crazy. Nothing wrong with that though, as long as he keeps a handle on it. He's drawn some interesting eyes to him though, not counting myself.

I don't really eat Ice Cream. Empty calories and sensitive teeth. I will however have the occasional Popsicle, and to head off THAT question: grape.

Actually, I take that back: Other day I saw a guy with some sort of three foot tall double Mohawk in an 'X' shape on top of his head. Don't look like a fuck-nut. That's what I like in a person's hair.

I would feel worse about eating animals if they weren't so damned tasty.

I think it's a good idea. We're one big fucking space rock away from not existing right now, so we should probably try and do something about that.

>>19298545

Probably the Zero series on the GameBoy: Portable, challenging when compared to the main games, interesting weapons variety, while still maintaining something of the style and feel of the other games.

Eh, I occasionally download new ones and beat them. Sometimes I'll do commentary about what I think they did right and wrong, and people try and make a better and/or harder one for me to play. Apparently I've become something of a celebrity for it. Under an assumed name of course, old habit die hard.

Believe it or not, fast based 'twitch' games do lay some of the basic groundwork for important piloting skills. It's not a proper substitute for REAL training, but it helps.
>>
>>19298559

Physical training's important. There's a reason why fighter pilots and such are always in decent shape: The machine puts you under a lot of pressure. Sudden acceleration and deceleration, extreme speeds, jarring impacts, you need to be in shape just to survive.

>>19298572

It's suspicious as hell, especially since they know nothing about it and the funds were moved YEARS ago. And I checked, it's not spoofed, that's when they were actually moved.

As for your second question... that strikes me as exactly the sort of thing we should be thinking about now. My best guess would be high visibility. They'll be real easy to keep tabs on. Flip side, they'll also be hard to attack it they're in the public eye. Someone jumps them it'd be news immediately.

Okay last question from this party,
If you had just one piece of advise for all those newbie pilots out there what would it be?

Find something else to do with your life if you can, Core piloting's a good way to get yourself killed fast.

Don't let the fancy paychecks and the Razzle Dazzle fool you, you will eventually fight someone like me, and you will die.

Take that kid Alex? In a real fight, as soon as he hit an open spot I would've ran him through. My core was at about half normal speed, and my synch rate was about 20 points lower than my normal.

I have fond memories of you yelling at people when you see some one already archived it, oh well
>>
>You know, there's less questions than I thought there would be.

>I'm not sure if that's because /tg/ doesn't understand the implications of getting to ask Dervish questions, they don't know what questions to ask, or they just don't care.

Hmm, do you know anything about Nineball that wouldn't be common knowledge?

Anything about strange funky necklaces called self-stones?

What exactly did you mean by trained assassin?
>>

Nah I think it has to do more with problems with 4chan tonight, i know a few of us had points where we couldnt even get on this evening

Not too sure about Nineball. something that a lot of people don't know is that he didn't always hide his 'true' identity. The weird thing is that all evidence of his name was removed a while ago. Sadly, I wasn't even aware he existed until after it happened, so such knowledge is currently unavailable to me.

Something to do with Wizards. Other than my Tarot cards I don't put much stock it 'occult' stuff.

I mean I was trained as a spy and assassin. I have been specially trained in the art and science of taking people's lives in a variety of ways, for a variety of circumstances. I actually went to Japan and studied with a ninja clan at one point. Probably the only 'Gaijin' to do so in the last 50 years.

>Could be. Be unfortunate if that's the case.
>>
>I'm gonna call it quits here. If anybody didn't get their questions in due to connection issues, I'll take them at the top of the next thread, just post them here.

Why did you leave the wolf pack?
What if anything are you going to do in regards to the supposed traitor to the wolf pack?
