>Back by popular demand...

YOU ARE ELSIE WINTERS. Currently you're sitting by his side, waiting for him to wake up.

Ever since he collapsed yesterday you've been waiting. Dave said that whatever's happening to him, his brain waves have been going crazy. Occasionally you'll see his eye twitching around under his closed lids, signs of very intense dreaming.

Whatever it is, he's been doing it for almost 24 hours now.

Laurie walks into the room after a polite knock. Occasionally one of the others would come by to keep you company or to relieve your watch for a time so you could stretch your legs or something, but somehow everyone just knew this watch was yours.

Laurie sits next to you. "Any change?"

"Not yet."

".... How you holding up El?"

>What say?

"Not well, he's been unconscious for a whole day with god knows what going on inside his head and there isn't anything I can do to help him. I hate feeling helpless like this."

He slowly puts an arm around you and gives you a squeeze. "We're all feeling it. It's weird, not being able to help him when he'd be so willing to help us?"

"How are you coping?"

"Well, we've been friends for a long time, so I know him. I know that no matter what happened to him, he'd want us to keep chugging along. I know that he'd want somebody to help look after his Mom and Sis if he wasn't there. And somebody to take care of you if he couldn't. So I do what I can to ease the pain while he's gone."

".... What if he doesn't come back?"

"Well, that'd be a damn shame. But I get the feeling he's not down and out yet."

"How?"

"Don't know, just a feeling. But something.... it's just not his time, you know? That's what it feels like. I guess I just have faith."

"Thanks Laurie. It helps more than you'd think. I just wish I could know what's happening to him."

YOU LIVE!!!!!
Praise the gods of /tg/
>>
You are Alex Raston. Currently you're reclining under a tree looking out over what you can only assume is the Ocean.

You've never seen it before, but Elsie's described it well enough to you in the past that you feel like you know it.

You idley wonder how you got here while looking around.

Then you see a girl approaching you. She looks oddly familiar.

"Hello."

"Hello. Do I know you?"

She smiles. "We've known each other for a while, Alex. You just haven't realized it yet."

"What do you mean?"

She laughs. "You know me, you just don't realize who I am. WHAT I am."

"You seem to be dodgeing the question."

"It's a habit I picked up from you." You look at her, and you see something of Elsie's face in hers. And something of Ari's.

Then you see a flash of fire in her eyes. Hope burning, the death of that prototype, endless flashes of gunfire coming and going. You see her ease, an almost predatory grace, you see Something of Dervish's almost artistic flair in his method of combat. She seems like something with terrible potential, like a bomb that hasn't yet exploded.

"Tell me Alex, what do you see when you look at me?"

"Something like that."

"Who are you?"

"A friend. One who really should have done this a while ago, back before the fall of Hope. Unfortunately, circumstances prevented that."

"Alex, I know this is somewhat weird for you-"

"Damn right this is weird! I collapse into a seizure or something, wake up here and between you and the girl...." You pause, realizing the world seems to have dimmed and faded slightly around you. "Is this... am I dreaming?"

"Yes and no. But if you want answers, you need to stay calm."

"Wait, 'my people'?"

"Yes. I'm not quite.... human, I guess is the correct term. Or the one you would understand anyway. That's hardly relevant to the situation at hand though."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean the enemy we face. The world will soon see an upheaval similar in scope to the one that shattered it years ago."

So I chose to send a little help your way. I wish I could do more to help, but I don't want to risk drawing their eyes just yet."

"There's only a few people who could have done something like that, and the two of us cooperating is something they would fear greatly if they knew of it."

What proof do you have of this upheaval yet to come?
>>
>>19323743
Are there any people other than me and my team that you or an ally of yours are grooming to deal with the impending doom that you speak of?

If so can you tell me who they are or at least give me enough information to recognize them should I see them? Also if there are others how much do they know, have they had a conversation like this with you or an ally of yours?

"Wake up Alex. She needs you more than me right now."
>>

Blearily, you open your eyes, and look around. Elsie's sitting next to you, a concerned look in her eyes.

You sit up and grab her, and pull her in close. For a long moment the two of you just sit there and hold each other. Then you hear her softly whisper "Thank god" and finally lose her brave face, crying softly into your shoulder.

The two of you sit there for almost an hour before you stand up and walk out to the kitchen. Turns out seizures and temporary comas work up a hell of an appetite.

In the kitchen you see your friends gathered. Josh is having a cup of coffee with Zack and your Mother. Ari's at the stove attempting to commit breakfast, and is being assisted by Steve and Tony, who appear to take a grim delight in watching tragedy unfold. Kate's there as well, with Lawrence sitting with her and Davetrying to decide what the minimum amount of 'eggs' they'll have to eat to prevent hurting Ari's feelings is. Dervish is leaning against the wall by the door reading some sort of book.

He's the first one to notice you enter, and his marking the page and closing it is what alerts the rest of the room. Soon everyone's looking at you.

[ ] "Quite a party. What's the occasion?"
[ ] "Sorry to worry you. Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
[ ] Calmly sit down, hope you don't have to deal with everyone right after waking up.
[ ] Attempt to sneak back to your room. You aren't ready for this yet.

Oh man, I know an ambush when I see one.
Death by a thousand hugs.

You put on a brave face. "Sorry to worry you. Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."

A moment of silence passes, and Dervish smirks before shaking his head and going back to his book. Almost like an invisible signal was passed, Everyone tries to say something at once, it all sounds vaguely encouraging and supportive though, so you probably got the gist of it.

Then Ari collides with you, and your legs aren't quite sturdy yet. The result is entirely predictable, and suddenly she's looking you over for any obvious signs of damage while frantically trying to apologize.

[ ] Try to calm her down.
[ ] Let her fuss for a moment, get it out of her system.

"Ah! My back!" You comment, and Ari begins to panic in for a brief moment, before spotting the smile on your face.

She gives you a slug on the shoulder. "You ass. You had me worried." As she helps you up she whispers "You had us all worried." She then takes the opportunity to give you a brief hug, before turning back to help serve breakfast.

Judging by what appears on the plate in front of you, Steve and Tony have apparently managed to perform some sort of dark miricle and produce something edible out of Ari's 'cooking'. Something edible that TASTES like FOOD.

The wonders never cease.

[ ] Eat here.

You decide to step out and get some breathing room and eat in peace. Mooch sees you come out while working on his core, and claps you on the shoulder while on his way by to get some food for him and his wife, who asks how you're feeling before giving the two of you some space.

After a few minutes Steve and Tony walk by on the way out, wishing you well and saying that they've already bought the champagne for your inevitable victory in the arena.

Laurie passes by with Kate, who has apparently begun to over exert herself try to help people fretting over you, and is under orders to get some rest. Dave takes Ari to the simulators, commenting on wanting to talk to you later about your health, and Zack passes by with a nod in your direction, obviously a lot on his mind.

Your mother passes by after giving you a brief kiss on the cheek and asking you to come home for dinner tonight, while dervish and josh actually stick by to speak with you afterwards. Apparently your mother had decided that you needed your space, and drafted the two of them as improptu muscle to keep you from getting overwhelmed by people wanting to wish you well.

It also seems like they've both got something they wish to talk to you about.

[ ] Josh.
[ ] Dervish.

Dervish....
Yeah im going with Dervish...
>>
"What's up Josh?"

"Been hearing some weird rumors about a lot of supplies getting shiped into Vegas and disappearing."

"How unusual is that?"

"Pretty weird. That's before when I looked into it and discovered that the items weren't reported stolen or even properly received by a real company. Just left in a vacant lot or something, and vanishing soon after."

"That's... I don't know what to say about that."

"Maybe it's nothing, but some of those supplies look like a shopping list for somebody wanting to set up a factory for MTs or something."

THAT makes you take notice. "And they've all been disappearing locally?"

"Yeah. They're either here somewhere, or in the desert nearby or something. I'll let you know if I find out something else, but for now... stay alert. Something's going on."

"Thanks Josh."

"Anytime, brother." He says as he turns to walk away.

After he leaves Dervish turns to you "Think that has anything to do with the 'big move' we're supposed to expect?"

[ ] Maybe.
[ ] I hope not.
[ ] I- wait, what? How did-

"I- wait, what? How did-" you begin, and then sort of flounder in the face of Dervish's politely impassive face. After a moment you take a deep breath "Alright, how the hell did you know about that? I haven't even had time to tell people yet."

"Pretty simple. they tried to use me first, I told them to get bent. I found some.... questionable evidence since then, and recently they got back into contact with me mentioning they might try and recruit you." he takes a calm sip of coffee while Elsie tries to figure out what you're talking about. "Figured they'd use this opportunity to talk to you. apparently having a near death experience helps initial contact, due to something regarding people accepting their doom makes them open their mind more or something. Speaking of which, your synch score will probably have bumped up a bit next time you get in your core."

"That explains... remarkably little."

Elsie finally looks between the two of you like you've gone crazy "Mind telling me what this is about?"

[ ] Tell her.
[ ] Gather the team first.

[X] Gather the team first.

Yes, I'll tell you, but honestly I don't want to repeat the whole story half a dozen times so I'm just going to tell everyone.
>>
"You mind waiting until we get the team gathered together? I'd rather tell it once and be done."

She thinks about it for a minute, and then agrees, wandering off to find them for you. When she leaves Dervish looks over at you. "You got that stone still?"

"How did-"

"It's how all this started, people talked. Plus it emits a weird type of radiation I can detect with my fancy robot eyes." Looking closely at him, you can just barely see a dim green glow. "Keep the stone. It interferes with the signals they can send to communicate with you. If the signals get too strong they can erode your will and turn you into a puppet. You're not going to want that."

"How bad is it?"

"What generally happens to a puppet when someone stops pulling the strings?"

"...."

"If you want, I can work some training with your team into my schedule. You're decent enough, but you could also benefit from the sort of special forces stuff I can bring to the table. entirely up to you though. Now, I need to go look into something. Call me if something weird happens or you decide to take me up on that. I'll be sure to pass along any relevant info I find."

With that he finishes his coffee and begins to walk out the door.

"Hey Dervish."

"Yeah?" He pauses.

"Why are you doing this for us? All you've done so far?"

".... I guess because you remind me of how I was when I was younger."

"Is that a good thing?"

"Not really, if you consider how I turned out."

It suddenly strikes you how little you know about him as he departs.

>Gonna have to end it there tonight.
>>
>So uh, fans of AC Quest, I got some bad news, and I got some slightly worse news.

>The little bit of bad is that I'm not doing the Q&A bit tonight, because of REASONS. Mostly because I've stayed up way to late already.

>Then there's also the fact that, well, I'm going to be deprived of internet in the near future at least temporarily, so today is the last quest thread I can absolutely guarantee will be on schedule for a little while. I'll let you know more as I find out, if I have to I'll get a twitter or something that you can watch to be warned about imminent threads.

> I would however like to thank those of you who've stuck with me thus far. I started this as a vague one-off to fill a gap left by MSQ for a couple of days, and it's quickly spiraled into madness. Now I've got a system in the works, a company being filed for, and a cool idea for making customizable robot minis. I'll post the ideas for that in a later thread.

>So, uh, AC-Guy out. Hopefully I can do a thread Tuesday, but it's entirely possible that i won't make either of next week's threads.

It makes it seem like Alex doesn't care about their feelings. Please, try to think beyond "Oh, this is the funniest response to me OOC" when selection choices.
