Your name is Ishelda, and you're standing in the lowest, deepest room in High Lord Sirius's dungeons. Chained to the wall is Uriel, who is staring at you with a strange sense of awe. You can vaguely feel some mind magic- magic you recognize from the potion you'd made earlier. Perhaps it took effect on him?
>>
>>19336893
>"You're beautiful."
"Why thank you."

"Uriel, can you tell me about yourself? Where do you come from and what kind of place is it?"
>>
"Why, thank you." You say. "Uriel, can you tell me about yourself? Where do you come from, and what kind of place is it?"

"It's dark." He said. "Dark and dry. The dust constantly covers the sky, so it's dim even during the day. The others. . the others don't like it much. . but I do. Even without the knife, I would stay there until the poison gets me. It's beautiful there."
>>
>>19336970
"The knife? What do you mean?"

>The others. . the others don't like it much. .
"So why don't they leave?"
>>
"The knife? What do you mean?"
"Azariel has a knife." He says. "It keeps the poison from hurting us. I'd- I'd give it to you and win your favor, but Azariel would find out and hurt you to get it back."
"If they don't like it much, why don't they leave?"
"It's our duty to stay." Uriel responds.
>>
>>19337002
>I'd- I'd give it to you and win your favor, but Azariel would find out and hurt you to get it back.
"Don't worry, Uriel, you'll have your chances to win my favour" smile briefly "Who is Azariel and what can you tell me about him?"

>"It's our duty to stay." Uriel responds.
"Where does this duty come from?"

"How long have you been living there?"
>>
"Don't worry, Uriel, you'll have your chances to win my favor." You say, smiling briefly.
"Who is Azariel and what can you tell me about him?"
"Azariel is. . He's our leader. He's so old he can't move, but. . he's powerful. Very powerful."
"Where does this duty come from?"
"From Azariel. He. .raised us, and said we had a duty."
"And how long have you been living there?"
"My entire life. I wish I could bring you to see it- it's beautiful. . But Azariel would harm you."
>>
>>19337078
"Why would he want to harm us?"
>>
"Why would he want to harm us?"
"It's a secret. We're a secret. We aren't supposed to tell anyone else, but. . you're an exception."
>>
>>19337107
Give visible hints of being pleased, as if rewarding him for something.
"Tell me then, if you please."
>>
"He- He'd kill anyone that found out the secret." He said. "And if I brought you to the tower, he'd assume I told you."
"Tell me then, if you please." You say, giving him a smile. He nods.
"Azariel and the batch of eggs that we eventually became. . we. . ."
A spell you hadn't previously noticed burst into life, and started strangling him. He gagged, and gripped his throat.

>I DIDN'T NOTICE AGH.
>>19337196
>I usually pick one at random, but I usually take the first roll or the average.

You reach out with your magic, and grip the spell, tearing it away from his throat. He gasped for breath. . But you can tell, the spell is tied into his life force itself. Either it'll finish its job, or. . exhaust his life trying to finish its job. He took a few more breaths. "We came from another world." He said, staring you in the eyes. "A dead world."

You lost your grip of the spell, and it tightened around his throat again.

>>
"At least I can be merciful." You say, and numb his pain. You close your eyes, and establish contact with him.

His last words aren't, in truth, words. They're an image, a memory. A tall tower, in the middle of a crater of black glass. The sky is clouded with swirling dust. . it's enormous, more awesome than anything you'd seen. In the distance, you see humanoid shapes, chipping at the crater's black glass with picks, and in the sky, you see other winged figures. In the memory, Uriel's throat is parched, but he doesn't care. He's home.
You kiss him on the forehead, and then the memory goes dim. . along with everything else.
You pull away from the mental contact before he dies- you don't want to follow him wherever he's going.
>>
>>19337268
In retrospect, I should have been more careful with probing for that info. That there could be a killswitch *DID* cross my mind.

Anyway, we are pretty much done here, we can continue our travel now.
>>
>>19337287
It is unfortunate, but it happens.
>>
Tell Lord Sirius what you learned about Uriel and his people, warn him NOT to spread the word as his life would be in great danger if it gets out that he knows.

Afterwords I think its time to come clean to with our friends. tell them in private that you too come from a dying world. It seems that this world is quite an attractive place for refugees.
>>
"We're done here." You say as you leave the cell. "Uriel is dead."
"Yes, lady." The knight that brought you down said. "I will lead you and your comrades back to High Lord Sirius."

The walk seems longer than it was on the way down. Before interrogating Uriel felt like. . an errand, just something you had to do. But now. .

"Lady Ishelda." The High Lord said, greeting you. "What exactly happened?"
Grayskin looks at the expression on your face.
"He's dead, isn't he?" Grayskin asks.
>>
>>19337325
>Afterwords I think its time to come clean to with our friends. tell them in private that you too come from a dying world. It seems that this world is quite an attractive place for refugees.

Lets not. I like the air of mystery that hangs around us, besides it is not really that relevant of info. In the vast space of infinite dimensions the fact that two worlds got access here is not so far-fetched.
>>

"Love potion made him spill everything. That activated a magical trap that strangled him.

>>
>>19337337
"Yes. He was enchanted with a spell to prevent him from telling their secrets. I… I tried to stop it, but it was tied to his very essence. The best I could do was delay it briefly."
>>
"Love potion made him spill everything." You say. "That activated a magical trap that strangled him. We did get a good deal of information from the poor fellow, though."
"That's probably more than we would have gotten." The High Lord says. "Romulus?"
Romulus chants his spell.
"Their leader, or the closest thing to it, is Azariel, an old being of their kind- also the one who raised them. They live in the wastelands, in the very bottom of the crater, and the only reason they don't get poisoned is because of a. . an knife of some kind. The coven are. . the last of their race, from a dead world- or that was the impression I got."
>>
"I see. . ." He says.
"Do not spread the word- your life would be in great danger if it gets out that you know. Whoever laid that spell on Uriel didn't want it to get out, and didn't hesitate to kill his own people."
"As you say, Lady."

"Ishelda." Grubwort says a few minutes later, outside of the citadel. "Did you get everything in the city done that you wanted to get done?"
>>

>>
>>19337507
>I can, but that pretty much means that the rest of this update, I estimate, will all be scenic route, and we won't get to elven lands until tomorrow.

"I think so, yes." You say.
"I don't need to do anything in the city." Lewin says, and shrugs.

"Alright then." Grubwort said, as your group climbed up the gangplank to his ship. The crew cheered as Grubwort came back, and then they cast off to the north.
>>

"I think I would like to see the woman that was made into Lady Azure."

>>
>>19337566
>>I can, but that pretty much means that the rest of this update, I estimate, will all be scenic route, and we won't get to elven lands until tomorrow.

I think it could be covered in about 7 posts. One thing per 2 days of travel.

Or we could agree for a set of enchantments (you'll give us a number), then have us roll for them, after that you can give us a big update for the whole trip.
>>
>>19337601
>That's up to you guys, really. Roughly, I'll say you can attempt an enchantment every four days, so you have three and a half enchantments you can attempt.
>>
>>19337651
Sure, I can roll with that.
>>
>>19337566
Maybe you could do it in diary format.
Example:
Day one
Today i successfully enhanced Grayson's hat so it emits calm around it. No more hating on Grayson!
Day two
While i rested we stopped at a beautiful orc village and bought some local honey!
>>
>>19337680
I still think we should uplift Grayson, so that he can talk, walk on his hindlegs and generally be a highly-educated, eloquent gentleman.
>>
>>19337694
I'm all game for uplifting, but no speech. I'd say that's worth an enchantment and a half, his hat being another, so that leaves us with 2 whole enchantments left!
>>
>>19337715
No uplifting Grayson i vote. It will be very hard for grayson to both be mount and uplifted
>>
>>19337694
>>19337715
>Grayson's already intelligent enough to understand human speech- magic does that sort of thing, and you've been exerting power on him nigh-constantly.

Day One:
Fellwind and Lewin spent time on deck today sparring with blades. It was interesting, But Fellwind is much, much better. It almost seems as if he has actual military training.

Day Two:
Today Grubwort took us to an island off to the west of the orc mainland. Apparently it's called 'guardian island', due to some minor skirmish with the lizardmen. It's all but abandoned, but there's some old ruins of a tower- apparently it wasn't very well kept. Grayson caught something, and mauled it pretty badly- it seems that Grayson isn't a vegetarian bear after all.

I think I'm rested up enough to try an enchantment today, so. . here goes. .
>>
>>19337715
You reminded me about that story how a guy played a bear with ridiculous amount of levels in Dosguise, Perform and Sign language who managed to build up a good reputation, was invited to a royal banquet where only one person managed to see through his disguise. That person was removed by the guards when he started yelling "he's a bear!"

>>19337738
....eh, why would it be impossible for him to be mounted if he's uplifted?
>>

>>19337750

>>
>>19337765

>>
>>19337750
>uplifted
I thought we meant uplifted as in raised to walk on two legs. But if you mean raised to a higher intelligence level type of uplifted then sure, why not.
>>
Day Three:
The enchantment was a success. Grayson's hat should keep people from freaking out near him. It won't do anything in combat, I don't think, but it should keep people from running out of his way in the middle of Sirius City anymore. If I ever need them to be scared of him, I can just. . take off the hat.

Nothing notable happened today- Just Grubwort and Lewin singing bawdy songs while we sailed. I don't think they knew I could hear them, because when I stepped abovedeck, they both went perfectly silent as I came into view.

Day Four:
Today we'll be stopping on another island. Grubwort says we'll be there in an hour or s-

"Lady?" Fellwind asks.
You stop writing in the journal.
"I still have the scars." He says. "From the hobgoblins."
>>
>>19337828
"You fought hobgoblins before?"
>>
Yohoho, and a bottle of rum around!
>Hat Enchantment acquired

>>19337828

I am glad you are telling me now Fellwind. I have noticed that there is some pain in your past.
>>
>>19337745
>Grayson's already intelligent enough to understand human speech- magic does that sort of thing, and you've been exerting power on him nigh-constantly.
Oh, right. Then how about an enchantment that makes him able to communicate with either us or people around him? Either mental or making him able to speak Common. Or possibly Ishelda learning to speak Bear.
>>
"I. . I was a soldier." He said. "Lewin and I were both going to be soldiers, but we were hardly more than kids- he got nervous and changed his mind at the last second. So I went, and got trained by High Lord Venus himself. According to him, I was. . a prodigy."
He frowned. "Then my first real fight happened. They slaughtered my unit, and I thought they slaughtered me- but when I awoke, I was just cut to ribbons, not dead. So I crawled away. Swore I'd never become a soldier again. Changed my name, changed my identity, and ended up in Cerulean. Pawned my sword and armor, and ended up using that money to get a caravan to Sirius. Found Lewin again. . He seemed okay, and I was glad he didn't come with me."
>>
>>19337889
Oh i know it! Next enchantment should be a shared permanent mental connection for the entire party! Each person only shares what he wishes to share though.
>>
>>19337890
[I don't really know what to say at this kind of situation.]
>>
>>19337903
Nah that's too much. Lets see, Fellwind has his sword, Lewin has the bow. Let's try to make something non-lethal awesome. Enchanted Rope?
>>
>19337890

I'm glad that our bond has developed and you feel that you can share this with me Fellwind. Since we first met, I was aware that there is pain in your past that still torments you.
>>
>>19337890
You've had hard times Fellwind. You have my assurance that I will not send you into any situation I don't believe you can handle and return safely from.
>>
>>19337923
The ship.
We can always enchant the ship.

Or summon some bitching cannons for it
>>
>>19337927
This, as well as some sign of affection to show that we truly care for him and his plights.
>>
>>19337932
Bitchin' Ship Enchantment! All about that awesome comfort aboard the ship.
>>
"You've had hard times, Fellwind." You say.
"But Lewin hasn't." He said. "I came here to tell you this; I know what fighting and dying does to someone. I know what hard times are. I'm here to tell you to make sure Lewin doesn't ever know. He's the closest thing I have to a brother, and so if you lead him into danger and he gets hurt, or he dies. . You're going to meet that blade you made."
>>
>>19337950
> he gets hurt

Didn't he already get hurt?
>>
>>19337903
>>19337923
>>19337932
What about a shared mental connection that would weaken with distance? That would not be to much i think. And will be a huge advantage.

I think i would like an anti-detection enchantment for the ship. I think it could be very useful since we have the Coven after us.
>>
>>19337950
"I understand. But believe me it is no goal of mine to allow my friends to become injured."
>>
>>19337950
Cock an eyebrow

"Lewin is his own man and makes his own choices, I never told him what to do and he decided to follow me on his own volition. Let the man lead his own life."
>>
>>19337950

I have no wish to intentionally put Lewin's, or anyone else's life in danger, but the risk of injury is something always present in a world that is full of dangers. I cannot give an absolute guarantee of safety, after all I am just a young lady. But I promise you this: I do my very best to take care of my companions and those I hold dearest to me.
>>
>>19338014

And you would do well to consider yourselves as my friends and companions. The pair of you and Grayson are the first bonds I have made on my travels.
>>
"I understand." You say. "But believe me. . It's no goal of mine to allow my friends to become injured."
"As long as you know that, Lady. I believe you." He said, and then went back above deck. He turned back at the last moment. "My name is still Fellwind, but in case you're curious. . I used to be Rikar."

Day Four:

Today we'll be stopping on another island. Grubwort says we'll be there in an hour or so. Fellwind came in and had a . . talk with me. The island is beautiful, and despite it being cold, the entire island is covered in flowers and. . small fuzzy, wingless birds. They don't even seem scared of me. . or Grayson, even without his hat. Grubwort said that the birds don't have any kind of predators here, so they don't feel the need to be scared. It's apparently against orcish law to hunt them.

I haven't used any magic in a few days, so I think I can try some new enchantment. . .

Then what about a tattoo on each person that would hive access to a secure mental magical chat channel? Each person would have to be enchanted in turn. We could later add other bits to the tattoo which could serve other purposes, like ability to share pictures or enhance the body or mind.

Day Eight:
I passed out. My arms hurt, my legs hurt. . everything hurts.
But I enchanted the boat. Now it should be stronger against attack, and hard to detect with magic. I'm not sure how good it was, but. . . Grubwort says that we're ahead of schedule. We can see the mainland from here, and I can see Carved Fortress from the distance. It's . . a fortress carved from a mountain. How many years would it have taken to carve this kind of thing by hand? Unless the king and queen did it with magic. . .

Day Nine:
Grubwort asked me what the hell I did to his ship. He says we're faster than we have any right to be with this wind and currents, and he doesn't take kindly with me screwing around without his knowledge. It's the first time I've seen him this angry. . Or angry at all, actually.

Day Ten:
We've cleared the orcish lands, and now we're turning south to the elvish lands. From what Lewin tells me, we'll be stopping at one of their 'prisms', which are apparently the elvish version of cities. From there, he says, we can take an airship to any other prism connected to the weave.

I've rested up enough for one last enchantment. I'm thinking some kind of. . magical communication. Good thing I thought to get a bunch of carved wooden rings to enchant from Venerable Refuge.

You close your eyes, and focus on the pile of rings. . .

Quite easily, you link each ring to the other. Now when one speaks to the ring, everyone else wearing the ring can hear. Private conversation won't be possible, but this could be invaluble if you get split up. You walk around, passing rings to everyone (Including the ring connected to a thin rope, around Grayson's neck), and finally give one you Grubwort.

"Grubwort." You say. "I'm sorry about messing with your ship. I won't do it again without your permission."
He looked you levelly in the eye, then shrugged. "That's all I want. At least warn me next time."

Grayson harrumphs through the connection. . which you didn't even think was possible.
<I have a feeling that was a yes.> Fellwind said.
<We've arrived.> Grubwort said, and you look over the side of the boat.

The prism was tall. It's base was thin, and twisted upward, looking somewhat like a giant tree. Near the top, the tower split into balconies, multiple storied, enormous balconies. Floating several feet above the top balcony, there was a massive, flying crystal, and you could sense a strong wave of magic wash over you.

You reach for the magic, intending to take it, but it's ephemeral- it seems to intelligently avoid you only when you reach for it.
"Here's the dock." Grubwort said, and pulled into port.

The first elf you see is. . short, and his skin is somewhat translucent, letting you see the general shape of his bones. He was slim, and dainty. His hair was pure, utter black, and his eyes were large. On his back he carried an ornate quiver filled with javelins, and he wielded a spear. You note that he's wearing a bracer on his offhand, and there's a small crystal set into it.
"Greetings." The elf said. "Welcome to this prism. To what do we owe this honor, visitors?"

"Welcome, Lady Ishelda, to the weave." The elf said. "'Twould give you a tour of this land, but. . I am a keeper, and guarding this port is my duty. Kiyara, daughter of Kyvann, may be free to guide you. She is on the fifth balcony. .when she's not crashing, that is."
Kyvann was the name that the orcish queen mentioned, when she spoke of an elf with a ship that could exit the weave. . . coincidence?

As if called by name, an airship flew off of one of the balconies, trembled for a bit. . and then fell, falling slowly through the air as the ship's enchantment struggled to keep it aloft.

"Shit, shit, shiiit!" You hear a woman crying, as the front end of the airship dips and one of the enchantments fail.

Reach out with your magic and try to steady it.
>>
eat magic from airship and slow fall
>>
You reach out with your magic to catch the ship. . but it slips out of your grasp, and you just end up wasting energy. You start wheezing, and the airship smashes into the ground, a shimmering sphere appearing around it as it does so.
"She always works more on the shield over the flight." The keeper says. "Because she spends more time smashing than flying."

Well then. Get over there, say hello to Kiyara and fly the ship back up.
>>

Rerolling for this.

turn gravity off around airship
>>
>>19338879
Apparently we're really good at manipulating gravity.
>>
You shrug, and walk up to the airship, where a red-headed elf is laying, cursing to herself.
"Hello." You say, and channel magic into the air around the airship, diverting gravity away from around it. The ship creaked, and floated.

"Hey, what's the big idea?" The elf asked, looking around. The airship looked quite like a normal ship, but it had no sails, and had two large crystals- one on the bow, and one at the stern. The bow crystal was cracked, and leaking energy, so you just. . borrowed it, holding up the ship with it's help. "How are you doing that?!" She asked.
>>
>>19338952
Look like you are going to say something serious and say "Magic"
>>
>>19338952
I am going to let you in on a big secret, it's magic.
>>
"I'm going to let you in on a big secret." You say, looming closer with a serious expression on your face. "I used magic."
"Oh my!" She said, pantomiming a suprised face. "I can't believe it! Magic, in this day and age!"
She grinned. "No, seriously, how'd you do that? No bracer, no spellbook. . you're human, aren't you? And this thing isn't keyed to the weave, so you can't be using that for energy."
>>
rolled 41 = 41

And what? I used magicial magic
>>
>>19339099
There seems to be plenty of energy leaking out of that crystal.
>>
>>19339099
"Your crystal's leaking."
>>
>>19339099
My magic of an odd sort. I can use it spontaneously, but the efficacy is...rather variable.
>>
>>19339099
How much of the energy in that crystal are we using?
>>
"Your crystal's leaking." You say, pointing to it.
"Shit, shit shit!"
She whirled about, and reached into a chest, pulling out some kind of large, golden gauntlet. She slipped it on, and it seemed too large for her- Regardless, she grabbed the crystal tightly- small white tendrils burst out of the gauntlet's palm, and started repairing the crystal. She turned to you, holding out the gauntlet. "I never even thought to ask- who are you, anyway?"
>>
>>19339200
Lady Ishelda. I am guessing that you are Kiyara, the one with the ship that doesn't rely on the weave.
>>
I am normal commoner searching for guide
>>
>>19339200
"I am Lady Ishelda, and you are currently stopping whatever magic is holding the ship up."
>>
>>19339200
"I am Ishelda. I was told someone called Kyvann was working on an airship that doesn't need the weave."
>>
"Lady Ishelda." You say. "I'm guessing that you are Kiyara, the one with the ship that doesn't rely on the weave."
"I am Kiyara, but that ship was my father's. This one is. . a bit of both. If I can get it to work, that is. To be able to flawlessly borrow energy from the weave to recharge, and then go fly off into yonder blue skies. Instead of needing to recharge it manually, that is."
"Also, you're currently stopping whatever magic I'm using to hold the ship up."
"Oh, am I?" She asked, turning to you. She skidded over to the front of the small ship, and grabbed the crystal in her bare hand. The ship slowly started pushing itself downward, landing softly on the ground. "There! Now I can repair the crystal without killing us."
>>
>>19339289
What do the crystals do? I noticed the Keeper had one on his arm.
>>
"What do the crystals do? I noticed the keeper had one on his arm."
"Ooh, you're new?" She asked. "Well, hmm. . There was this elven wizard, but after some fight with some lizardmen shamans, he couldn't use magic anymore. He just couldn't absorb energy, right. So the wizard, Eidolon, built crystals to store energy and absorb it. Over the long term, feykind in general started making them, the weave was created, and then everyone started using the crystals for magic. Even elves that can't cast spells can still use these bracers. . but only for preset spells, of course."

"These crystals are supposed to do two things; keep the ship aloft, and channel energy from the weave. I just can't get them to do both at the same time."
>>
>>19339400
Have you tried segmenting their tasks, place several smaller crystals at the key lifting points and have one act primarily as a battery and power supply.
>>
"Hmm. . Have you tried segmenting their tasks? Place smaller crystals at key lifting points, and have one large one act as a battery and power supply?"
She gapes for a moment.
"You can't- You can't just walk on, make the ship fly, and then come up with something I've spent months on trying to figure out. You can't!"
>>
>>19339448
<shrug>Meh</shrug>
>>
>>19339448
"Well, it is not certain it will work. It was only an idea."
OR
"Sure we can! We are a Princess! All princesses can do awesome stuff like this."

"Sometimes, all you need is an alternate point of view. Locking yourself in a workshop with your invention will just keep you going along the same thought lines. A random person might just have that little bit of insight you need to make a breakthrough."
>>
>>19339448
You and your father did most of the work. I just offered a fresh perspective. I wasn't even sure that it'd work, I don't really know your crystals that wall or how well they can transfer energy to each other.

I believe I ought to introduce you to my companions, this is Lewin, Fellwind and Grayson. Also introduce Grubwort as once of them if he's with us.
>>
>>19339448
*Grin*
>>
>>19339494
>>19339490
I think the humble approach fit Ishelda better.
>>
"It is not certain it will work. It was only an idea. I just offered a fresh perspective."
"A fresh perspective, that, with my luck, will work, and then I can't brag about inventing it."
You notice your companions approaching. "I believe I ought you introduce you to my companions. This is Lewin, Fellwind, Grayson, and Grubwort."
"Two humans, a bear, and an orc? What is this, some kind of zoo?" She asked. "Hello." She added, waving. "Why's everyone looking at me?"
>>
>>19339540
You're a redheaded elf standing next to a crash landed airship. That is a rare sight in most lands.
>>
>>19339540
"The bear is sentient, it would be both kind and safest to not insult it."
OR
"Because you are the latest addition to The Royal Order of Ishelda"
>>
>>19339590
>"The bear is sentient, it would be both kind and safest to not insult it."
And if she does not look frightened, take off the hat.
>>
"You're a redheaded elf standing next to a crash-landed airship. That's a rare sight."
"Uh. . not around here, it isn't." She said with a grin. "Here, it's a daily occurance. Come on, I'll lead you to my balcony and then we can talk while I mess with some crystals."

no OR.
Just and.

We will take over the world! We will start with the weave. With our ability to manipulate magic and the huge amount of magic that seems to be in the weave we can EASILY take over the rest of the world!
>>
Wait a moment, did Fellwind threaten a 14 year old girl earlier?
I'm all for magic missiling the ungrateful fuckwit in to oblivion really
What are good reasons not to?
>>
>>19339706
Take over is such a harsh term. A better term is unify.
>>
>>19339846
Hmmm you are right. Unify under The Glorious Rule of Ishelda sounds much better.
>>
>>19339785
He's probably the best fighter we know.
