You twirl about, hearing the spider golem rush toward you. You open your mouth to say something.
"Ser Bubbles, As your-"
You freeze when you see it, and you just gaped.
The three crystals set into the golem's head were pure, deep red, pulsing organically.
The golem bowls you over, and then pins you in place.
"I am not your Ser Bubbles, Girl." It says, in a husky, staccato voice, and you notice that the golem's limbs spasming randomly, as if it were malfunctioning, or broken. "Now, I don't want to harm anything or anyone, so call your bear off before I have to kill it."
>>
>>19469341
Who are you and why are you in my Golem?
>>
>>19469341
"Settle down, Grayson. What do you want, then? And who are you? A remnant of Eidolon?"
>>
Too late for grayson to help anyways.

"Grayson, please remain calm. Who are you? Did you transfer your mind into the golem?"
>>
"Settle down, Grayson." You say, and the bear huffs, but stays where he is. "Who are you?"
"I am just an impulse." He said, and his head twitches. "That's all I am. Now- use your sorcery to give me a body of my own."
>>
>>19469399
You could have asked politely, I would have said yes.

I can't do that very well when you've pinned me like this.
>>
>>19469399
"'Just an impulse.' That's really not helping your case much or helping me understand what you are. What did you do to Ser Bubbles, and why are you living in his head?"
>>
"I'm inclined not to, whoeveryouare. The first thing you did was wait for everyone to leave and then jump on me! I am a little insulted by that, even if you meant no harm by it."
>>
"You could have asked politely." You say. "I would have said yes."

The golem puts the point of two of it's legs to your throat, and you feel them start to draw blood.
"Pleeeease?" He asks, almost mockingly.
"What did you do to Ser Bubbles, and why are you living in his head?"
"Your pet is. . sleeping." He said. "I've overpowered him."

Seconding these. That's enough to technically be a success normally. But I doubt whoever this is is going to be pleased and we're going to be drained from stuffing him into an alternative phylactery. I don't dare roll and add to this total.

"Get your claws off me, you damn dirty fey! I'm the only sorcerer you know of in this entire world. You can't bully me with simple physical threats, because you NEED me." You say, growling.
"No, I do not need you." It says. "Raziel is a necromancer, and is deeply in love with her brother. It would not be hard to convince her that raising you under my control would help him fall in love with her. I could kill you freely, and your sorcery would come back with your spectre."

"I'll do it." You say, and he climbs off of you, one of his legs folded underneath his body, making him walk with a strange, seven-legged gait.

You close your eye, and conjure a shape, focusing. .

It's almost impossibly complex for you to imagine, but you concieve of a small, weak, white rabbit, and with a pulse of magic. . you bring it into existence.

Your muscles ache, and your legs give out, as you pant and fight for air. . The golem examines the small, braindead rabbit. .
"Good enough." It says, and red lightning starts arcing from Impulse's crystals, and the golem's legs give out from under it.

Hey Exabyte. Can we use that 97 to gimp his magical capacity as that bunny?
>>
>>19469586
>Certainly. Consider his magical capacity gimped to 3% of what it would normally be.

When you rest for a moment, get your breath back, and push yourself back up, you see. . The golem is inactive, the crystals in its head dark, and the rabbit is looking around with an eerie, wary . . intelligent look. He takes a few steps this way, and then that way, stretching his limbs. The rabbit's eyes are pure red- you must have made it an albino.

You brush a hand over Bubbles, and try to reactivate him. The crystals light up. . but dim again, as it runs out of power. The golem clangs loudly. .

Raziel and Ell both climb back up the stairs, still talking. Raziel is carrying a long, orichalum staff, engraved with ritual circles and glyphs.
"Lady?" Ell asks. "What's going on?"

"Some freaky thing possessed Ser Bubbles, and wanted a body." You say. "I put him into that small bunny, over. . ." You look back, a hand raised to point at the small white rabbit. .
But it's gone.
Damn it, you shouldn't have looked away!
>>
>>19469600
Well. He might be able to... What, cast a cantrip or two? Plus, that's not considering the fact that he's got paws. PAWS. Paws are not good for somatic components. Buck teeth are not good for verbal ones. Though if he's an intuitive caster that might not be a problem... But being a bunny might kind of kill your willpower. And will to live.

>>19469627
"That little rabbit contains... SOMETHING. I don't know what. It's some form of very angry, very hostile spirit which was possessing Ser Bubbles. And now Ser Bubbles' batteries are dead. I don't know if they can be recharged now. You happy now, whoever or whatever you are? You put Ser Bubbles into a coma, all because you couldn't just ask me nicely for a body! So now you get to be a bunny. A bunny that cannot cast magic worth a damn."
>>
>>19469652
Implying implications.
Grab our 3d compass and align it to that bunny we made. Shouldn't be too hard since we're the one that made it. I'm afraid it will later posses much more powerful body to posses.
>>
You push yourself up, ignoring your aching legs that refuse to move properly, and pulld yourself toward the 3D compass. You pull it out of it's socket, and attune it to the rabbit.
It points. . downwards. It's either in the ship itself. . or underneath.
You look over the edge of the airship and see. . The Jormungandr is over a lake.

Is it because we lack magical energy?
Recharge using our crystals or take energy from ship's crystal.

"Lady, the ship is huge. How are we going to find it?" Ell asks.
Your legs wobble again, and you lean on Grayson as you push yourself up, and you grab the crystals on your hip, draining them of energy.

In the distance, you see an airship approaching- one sleek, silver, and without sails.

Yeah. That's why I said to get power from crystals or from the ship. Why are you ignoring that?
>>
>>19469748
"Oh, what now? Can this nonsense really get any worse? Ell, who does that ship belong to?"

>>19469768

And since we're still on the Weave, there's no danger that the ship will fall down due to lack of power.
So grab some power and send air elemental/s after it
>>
>>19469748
"With the compass. We can at least determine if it's still on the ship."
>>
>>19469780
The crystal keep a massive ship afloat for great stretches of distance and for many days. I doubt that drawing power from it till we are full would take even 1/3rd of all it power.
And even then, we're on the Weave.

And if we weren't, there is still my question why our crystals weren't used.
>>
>>19469801
>>You just used them, last post.

"With the compass." You say, and notice the ship in the distance. "Oh, what now? Can this nonsense really get any worse? Ell, who does that ship belong to?"
"It's. . . crafter design." He said, as the ship approached. "So in it are probably either Crafters, or Keepers. It's a council airship."

You grab the extra power from your crystals, and feed them into a few air elementals. Seek the white rabbit, you impress on them, and they fly down below decks, searching.
>>
>>19469832
The ship might be just passing through. We're on the Weave after all, it's like highway for the airships. Nothing suprising about seeing them fly by.

Make sure we don't come too close to it lest the bunny jump over to it.

Also, recharge our crystals drawing the power from the Ships crystal. recharge the ship's crystal through the Weave.
>>
>>19469832
"But why is the Council after us? Do they have a signal flag system, something by which we can communicate?"
>>
Do not let them come near enough for the rabbit to change ship. Keep the ship at shouting distance.
>>
"But why is the council after us?" You ask. "Do they have a signal flag system, something by which we can communicate?"
"No, we just. . get close and call out." Ell says, frowning. "But they'd be waving at us, if it was us they're going for. Let's just let them pass."
"We can't come to close to it, lest the bunny jump over to it." You say, and look down to the compass. It's still pointing straight down. . and you're moving, so it must be below deck.

You close your eyes, and check on the elementals. One drifts around Lewin, staying out of his way while the ranger carries another cot. The second is checking the empty cargo hold. .nothing.

The third checks the power crystal. .and finds the rabbit, one of Ell's orichalum tools in it's mouth. It twitches it's head, and bangs the tool into the crystal.

The ship shudders and shakes.
>>
"It is sucking power from the ships crystal! Don't use spells to stop it, it might eat them!"
>>
>>19469899
Send everyone after it.
Have the elementals stop it.

>>19469928
I think it is trying to break the crystal.
>>
>>19469899
It's a bunny. Snatch it. Failing that, stomp it to death.
>>
"It is sucking power from the ship's crystal!" You say, as the ship starts to fall out of the sky. "Don't use spells to stop it- it might eat them!"

The council ship stops next to you, and you see three crafters hold out their gauntlets- they shoot tendrils of light, and start holding the ship aloft.
"Are you damaged?!" The helpful crafters ask.

You urge your elemental to snatch the rabbit, and it does- before the rabbit bangs the same tool into the elemental's 'flesh' of air- All of the elemental's energy is drained in a moment, sucked into the Jormungandr's power crystal.
>>
Pour more magic into the elementals to make them faster and more dexterous.
Grab the damn bunny.
>>
rolled 53 = 53

>>19469899
The solution is obvious. We blast him with some fairly mundane magic. That magic being a blast of plain old boiling hot flesh-melting steam to cook him alive, something he'll be hardpressed to avoid and can't block with no real spellcasting capabilities, which will not hurt the crystal.
>>
Mentaliate to everyone who has the rings to grab it.

"Raise your shields! We have a magical monstrosity on board that cannot be allowed to escape, and it will devour your ship's magic if it gets near anything vital!"

Speaking of which, raise our own shields in reverse. This fuck isn't getting out of here.

Ok, everyone get down there, tell them to take it down, kill it with brute kinetic energy if possible, it seems to eat magic.

"Raise your shields! We have a magical monstrosity on board!" you cry back, and one of the crafters nod, creating a shimmering sphere around the sleek ship.

"Ell, raise our own shields, but in reverse." You say, and he runs over to the ship's wheel, creating a shield around you.

The rabbit hops back into view, up from below deck. . and then talks.

"You looked a bit tired." The rabbit says. "So I figured I would upgrade my body on my own."
It shrugged. "But for that, I needed power. Decided to steal it from the Weave. You don't mind, right?"

"That. . .is true." You say. "Very well."

You release the spell from the ship's docks, and then the fatigue sets in. The bunny stretches, and then recites a spell.
You recognize the spell- it's the one that the Kalak use to shapeshift.
You feel the spell take hold of the rabbit, and there's a loud cracking and twisting noise, as the rabbit starts to swell.
The young woman stands, and you note that she. . isn't any race you recognize. Otherwise humanoid, she had pale, colorless skin, no nose, and three long fingers on each hand.

"Where did you learn that?!" Ezekiel asks, and raises his hands- flaming spheres dance in his palms. Raziel raises her staff, a suprised look on her face.

"I know things I shouldn't." She said, and winked at him. Lie. She gagged, and coughed up a pile of crystals, coughing them into her palm, and then she held out her hand to Ell. He blinked, obviously uncomfortable standing near a naked woman. .ish thing, and then took them.

"What are you going to do now?"
"Also, what should we call you? 'Impulse'?"
>>
"Very well. In that case, would you prefer a different body? If you are willing to wait around awhile, I'll try at making you something more suitable."

"What should we call you?"
". . Impulse will do. A new life, a new body. . I might as well have a new name, neh?" Truth.
"Are you a sorcerer?"
"I wish." She said, and chuckled. "If I were, I wouldn't have had to cast that shapeshift spell- I could have just. . done it." Truth.
"Also, Ele'merelda'jaridan. If you want to learn something new about yourself. . go to Crescent Island."
While he splutters at that, she turns to Ezekiel. "Give me that robe, and I'll tell you something about that spell from." Truth.
Ezekiel frowns, then extinguishes his spells, tossing her the red robe you had made for him.
She smiled, showing off pointed teeth. "I once taught it to a kalak by the name of Azariel. Now. . I'll be going."

She leapt backward, off over the edge of the ship, arms spread, and dived into the lake, far below- she slid in like an arrow, having executed a perfect dive.

"Okay, uh." Lewin said. "Am I alone in not knowing what the hell is going on?"
>>

"I'm not entirely sure either." You say, and turn to the two kalak. "Well, now I have something to ask Azariel when I next have the chance to speak to him."

You notice the compass start spinning wildly- apparently it somehow lost whatever it was it was attuned to.

Ell was still spluttering, and then he ran over to the map, checking it. "Crescent island, crescent island. . ."

You release the truth spell, as your muscles start to burn. You feel. . stronger, despite that.

"Tch, they're empty." Ell said, examining the crystals. You close your eyes, and focus ...

Magic is both your friend and your foe, constantly being twisted against you and by you- it would be easier, much easier, if you could just. . . control it.

Suddenly, you're bathed in power, the Weave twisting through your body. You reach for it. . .and take it, funnelling power into your own body. While you're at it, you redirect power into your own crystals, and then, feeling the weave rush through your fingers, you thrust an eddy of the Weave at Ser Bubbles.

I don't think this is the best course of action to be honest.
I don't really have better idea except maybe...

Everyone should be looking at Lewin. Qucikly summon a bunch of elementals, air ones, to attack from the different side to distract them all

Bullshit. Crazy is what we need.
We can be sustained with magic for a long time by tapping into the Weave.
No need to hold back
>>
"Put the sword away, Fellwind. Now!" You order him, but he just glares at you.
You kneel down, and put your hands on the keeper, drawing energy from the weave to heal him. You save his life, patching him up before he can bleed out. It isn't perfect, but. .
"Heal him." Fellwind says, his voice cold, and as sharp as a razor's edge.
You go to Lewin next, and. . he's a mess. Whatever spell the Crafter used was both fire and force, and the fusion of the two. .his spine is broken, and he's badly burned, his skin oozing. Your blood goes cold.

You bite your lip, and you put your hands on his face, reaching out with your magic. .

His back arches, as you feed magic into him, and he screams, his back spasming and twisting back into place.

Lewin's eyes roll into the back of his head, and he falls unconscious, but. . he's alive.

"Now." Malach said, walking back from the ship. "What happened here?"

a poorly timed practical joke I'm afraid. almost cost the prankster his life and this keepers as well.

Raziel, Zeke, can you and Fellwind help get Lewin Belowdecks and see to what injuries I might have missed?

did you find any trace of the being aboard your ship?
>>
>>19472606
My friend was testing out a new cloak and you shot first.

I still don't see why healing warranted first only roll.
I don't mind difficulties and all but by the already established powers and precedents we shouldn't have been restricted to just a roll.
>>

I feel that important things like that should have no room for error, none of that re-roll stuff, if we'd fucked up we might have accidentally rotated his heart 270 degrees the wrong direction while repairing the damage...

>>19472664
>rolled a 96
wtf dice gods wtf?
>>
>>19472706
>Lewin was DYING. You didn't have time to take ten.

"A poorly timed practical joke, I'm afraid. Almost cost the prankster his life, and this keeper's as well." You say. "Raziel, Zeke, can you and Fellwind help get Lewin belowdecks and see to what injuries I might have missed?"
"Yes, lady." Ezekiel says, and they lift Lewin up, taking him back to the Jormungandr.

You turn to Malach. "Did you find any trace of the being aboard your ship?"
"Nay." He says. "It must have jumped off, if it were ever there at all."

He knelt down, and checked on the keeper.
"You could be a Healer, Lady." The elf says. "Jadeeris will live. I wonder what blade could cut through his armor so cleanly, though. I . . do not fault your friend nor his actions- I would do the same, if I thought my comrade in danger."
>>
>>19472664
>Raziel, Zeke, can you and Fellwind help get Lewin Belowdecks and see to what injuries I might have missed?

Good idea, have them haul him off to our ship as soon as possible using advantage of the confusion. If they find the seeds on him, we're doomed!
>>
>>19472732
>>19472738
meh
still not buying it

It has never took us more than a split-second to recast a spell when we fail it. Why should it be like this now?
>>
>>19472732
>f we'd fucked up we might have accidentally rotated his heart 270 degrees the wrong direction while repairing the damage...
We either do the spell we intend to or we don't at all. There is no middle, half-assed results. So no, if we botched, we wouldn't have made the damage worse, just would have wasted energy.
>>
So I'm guessing the seed's destroyed. Is there time for Ell to get another one while everyone's still distracted?

I thank you for your compliment Crafter Malach; as for the sword it was a minor enchantment of mine that got blown out of proportion by events I cannot easily describe...

are you sure your friend will be alright? I'd hate to have caused a fuss.

(if they ask our buisiness here in west prism say we're here to buy some more crystals and orchalicum)

>If I let you guys just roll as much as you wanted, then anytime anything important was happening, you could just continue rolling until you get a 100, and crush everything everywhere, which won't be fun.

"I thank you for your compliment, Crafter Malach." You say. "The sword was a minor enchantment of mine that got blown out of proportion by events I cannot easily describe. . Are you sure your friend will be alright? I'd hate to have caused a fuss."
"He will live, although his pride won't survive intact." Malach said. "But you misunderstand; I'm no crafter. Councilor Malach, at your service."
>>
>>19472820
>Because the GM says so
The game should be consistent. Removing part of the power on which we rely so much on and the entire character is based on just because it is convenient to the situation is sloppy, imo.

>Shrug, "Magic."
There is no need to say this right now.

"My apologies, councillor."
>>
"My apologies, Councilor."
"Don't worry- I bear the gauntlet and pauldron of a crafter, and I was proud to have earned them, before I was elected. May I ask what you were in the prism to do, lady?"
"To purchase some orichalum and crystals." You say, your lie already prepared.
"I see." He says. "May I see your scrip?"
You hand it to him, and he looks it over. "Ah, Councilor Absinad. I was just in a meeting with him. It seems that Kyvann is alive." He says. "Speaking of which . . You were the one who helped him, were you not?"

"Indeed. . although it is true to say that the orcs helped almost more than I did."
He chuckled. "Modest, aren't you. Now, you can go down to the warehouse and purchase what you need."

"No need, councilor." Ell said, walking out of the prism, a large bag in his hand. "I already did."
"Oh? You're traveling with the Lady?"
"I'm bored of being stuck in a warehouse." Ell said, and the councilor patted Ell's head. "Good luck, kid." He said.
"Thanks." Ell responded, and waved.
Ell took your shoulder, and led you back to the Jormungandr.

"What was that?" He whispered, pulling the Jormungandr away from the port. "All I heard was the scream. Is everyone okay?"

take any remaining pain from and heal Lewin and see if he managed to get the flowers...

"It didn't quite go as planned. I think I managed to heal everyone."
>>
"It was almost a failure." You say. "Now let's go below decks."

You go down to Lewin's cabin, and find him sitting up, and Fellwind in there.
Lewin tossed you something- a packet of seeds, labeled in elven.
"Galadriel's Light." Ell said.

"Lady." Fellwind says, turning to you. "We've been talking. When we get to Cerulean Province. . Me and Lewin are leaving."

I am of the opinion that we ask for the sword back. It is no mere enchanted item it is a full blown Artifact at this stage and he has shown he is not only exceptionally rash but no longer trusts us.

We understand they don't want to continue risking their lives, that's fair enough, but the sword stays.
>>
>>19473209
Well it's better than him killing us which is what he said would happen, and they have helped us out a lot so we can't really demand more from them. It'll be a shame to see them go. Them and the bitching nat 100 sword. Hopefully we can change their minds during the Crescent Island expedition.
>>
>>19473278
Dude no. We made that sword for him, and gave him all that talk about him forging it's destiny and shit. You can't just take back gifts once you've given them. Well you can, but not if you're a polite ladylike princess.
>>
>>19473278
Yeah, no. We gave that sword freely and in good trust. It's his.

And a wise ruler doesn't help create people capable of destroying them. We know next to nothing about the pair of them, for all we know a few in-game months down the track they could be against us.

That's not even considering the death threats. He may wield it but we created that sword and we are responsible for anything it does.

The weapon smith is not responsible for murder. He crafts tools - what is done with them is solely the responsibility of the one who wields that tool.

Come on man, this is morality 101.

I understand take some gold, and keep the rings in case you should ever need help.
>>
>>19473442
If this was a normal sword I would agree with you. But it's not, it's an extremely magical item capable of ignoring and cancelling (at least in an area) any magical effect.

How would you feel if the sword was stolen and someone sinister made use of it? What if the demons got ahold of it? We would be near powerless to stop them.
>>
>>19473397
>the wise ruler
We aren't a ruler.

>doesn't help create people
We didn't create the man, we created the sword.

>capable of destroying them.
The only way he can kill us is by getting within a few feet of us. The fact that the sword can cut through spells only means that we would need to attack him indirectly and cleverly.

>We know next to nothing about either of them,
I disagree. We know more about them and their past than anyone else in the world.

>for all we know a few in-game months down the track they could be against us.
That's true of everyone ever.

>That's not even considering the death threats.
We could give him one in return. "Use that sword against me or mine and I'll unmake it AND you."

Seems like a dick move to me though.

> He may wield it but we created that sword and we are responsible for anything it does.

Lolno. See >>19473442

>>19473480
The only regret that I would feel was that we gave it to a man too weak to hold onto it. And we would not be powerless against it - even Superman finds a way to overcome Kryptonite at the end of the day.
>>
>>19473480
>If this was a normal sword I'd agree with you
Difference of degree, not of kind. If we aren't responsible for a peasant using a mundane sword we made to kill his wife, then we aren't responsible for a demon using the diamond sword to kill a king either.

>>19475722
Yes, we must surround ourselves only with creatures we have created who are magically bound to our service so that we never experience anyone dying or leaving us again. This is obviously perfectly healthy behaviour.
>>
>>19478777
Yep.
That's why it is the best idea
