In the grim darkness of the 41st millenium there is only war. Imperium of Man, once strong and proud, now is slowly crumbling, whole regions of space are lost to the horrors that lurk in the darkness of the void. Sector Deus is just one of thousands of Imperial provinces that form the frontline in the war to defend Humanity itself. Corruption from within and aggression from without threaten it. But Emperor sends us hope. High Lords of Terra commisioned a Chapter of Adeptus Astartes to defend this region of space. They are the last line of defence that hold Age of Ruin at bay. They are the Ghosts of Retribution.

Last session:

Our friendship with Adeptus Mechanicus seems to have paid off, they gifted us a Super Heavy battle tank from an uncovered STC designs that we had the honour to call Retribution Pattern Baneblade. Also, we their technological advances in stealth technology unlocked a new unit in our arsenal - Revenants, also known as Ghostknights, invisible soldiers that are use semi-heretical ancient technology to achieve total surprise on the battlefield. Finally, we visited Tachion Primaris to celebrate New Year with Dercius D'anger - a notorious Rogue Trader who seems to have a bussiness proposal for us...

You sensed a weak wind blow past you once you entered the secret Dercius workplace. Revenants are at your side.
>I will be brief, marine, my guests have terrible habit of noticing when I am gone. I need your help. In my travels I always look for ways to make coin. I know that your motivations are different, but that doesn't change the fact that your ships can't repair themselves and those bolts that you like to spray around as if there is no tommorow, also need to be bought for cold hard cash. And this adventure that I propose you is good for you in two ways - it will make you enough money to buy a planet and at the same time you will help Imperium. Take a look at this holo-picture. This is Space Hulk that my Navigator named 'Dark sister'. My acquaintances gave me information when and where it will come to the real space. There is an artifact on that ship, that my acquaintances need, some sort of container as I understand. If we will manage to get it out, we both will be paid 450 Wealth, that's 225 Wealth for each of us. However space hulk is very dangerous, so I need your men to lead the way and defend us. Do you agree?
>>
>>19470449
As Dercius is waiting for your answer, you hear spire-bells ringing throughout the hive - the New Imperial Year has begun.

It is finally 317.M41

>What is your answer, marine?
>>
Im ok with the offer. But we will make sure we check what is that thing they want.

Dercius says:
>You are space marines, but I will trust you with this information... They claim that it is some ancient piece of xeno art. As I understand there is a noble who is a fanatical collector of such unique things and he is willing to waste his treasures on obtaining them. If you will report this to anyone, the deal is off and I will deny everything.

Xenos art? I don't see the harm in that. Much anyway. Sure. 225 wealth for a couple % points of heresy? Well, I can live with that.

Dercius smiles.
>I am glad you agreed. Please meet me at these coordinates in 64 Terran days. I expect you to send your finest, but remember that we want to do a quick in and out mission, not start a battle there, I think 30 of your brothers should be more than enough for this job. And now I must leave to attend my guests. Please enjoy your stay on Tachion Primaris. Women and drinks while you are here are on my account - Angels of Death must have it pretty boring out on the battlefield all the time. Until next time!

When you leave D'angers' palace, you are approached by a hooded man.
>My lord, I am Xiptus, a serf in service of Stellar Exports Corporatium.
You immediatelly recognize the name of cover-organisation for your spy network on Tachion Primaris. Man continues.
>I just wanted to inform you, that our Corporatium might face hard times soon, other bussinesses seem to be very interested in our dealings and might try to cut some of our profits. I have to go now, I have meeting to attend, but please stay in touch, my friend.
>>
>>19470662
Dercius mentioned, that he will bring some 'specialists' who will deal with warp-related problems and naturally. Other than that he will send only one Escort class ship, because this operation must stay under Imperial Navy radar and more than 2 ships might attract attention.
>>
>>19470734
Someone is trying to take out our spy network. Fuck. We need to find out who, and make them an offer they can't refuse.
>>
>>19470774
They've messed up one too many times, so it could be anyone. I say go silent for a while.
>>
>>19470801
Better plan. Let's do that.
>>
>>19470734
Xyptus left a note in your hand as he left.

'My lord,

In recent months there were some things that might be of interest to you. First of all, there are some unknown men who ask around about our Chapter. They are interested in where exactly at the moment is our fleet and where is our main base. We managed to silence some of their contacts so for now our location *should* be secure. These men were not from Praetorian Intelligence or other Adeptus organisations, they were more like freelancers, maybe hired by nobles or some other forces. Also, we noticed that Dresius Kand, merchant with whom we earlier had some dealings regarding buying ships for our fleet, might be involved in some bussiness related with Halo Stars. We managed to intercept one of his couriers, it seems that he is sending ships to retriece illegal xeno-materials from the edges of the galaxy on regular basis - every few years. Finally, we managed to get some information on illegal pit-fight clubs in the Hive Babelion underhive, their stocks probably could make good recruits, but they could be of... strange and sometimes even slightly heretical backhround.

P.S. We need more financing to continue our operations(d10 wealth)'
>>
rolled 5 = 5

>>19470852
Alright. Looking good. Tell them to feed some false info occasionally to those asking of our location. Send them on wild grox chases.
>>
>>19470828
>>19470801
>>19470774
This means, that your spy network will NOT be able to inform you of any activities as long as it's inactive and you yourself will have to tell that you want them active again(in thread quests people often forget things).

What do you do next?

btw, you Fortress Monastery is finished!

>>

False-clue planting is possible, but it would be countering your previous command about inactivity.

Your invested wealth strengthened network to 41% and gave it funds to operate for another decade on current level.
>>
>>19470883
Then we don't do it. Keep them active, have them send up false flags and shit. Make these fuckers WORK to figure out where we're located. Also try to figure out who they could be more specifically.

I think we should start recruiting more. We need to replace those on the list of the fallen.
>>
>>19470906
Going silent was only a suggestion for the group. We...May actually need them to stick around. Also:

This is a profile for your Fortress Monastery:

=Monastery=
Ground defences: 40%
+Icy Mountains
Space defences: 25%
Special Facilities:
-Ancient Temple
-Stellar Nexus

and you can choose 2 from these additional facilities:
1. Manufactorum[Revenant](would make you independent from AdMech to recruit Revenants, but the cost of making armour would remain the same)
2. Bestiary(trains and grows beasts that you bring there, can be used for war or training)
3. Nuclear Generatorium(infinite energy)
4. Space port(allows non-SHB ships to land)
5. Foundry(allows forging and modifying relics)
6. Academia(allows your character to study disciplines and train new characters)
7. Suggest yourself
>>
We may need the network to run a little better then normal. I suggest dumping another 5W into it. I would like the network to do counter intelligence work. Feed false information, find out who's asking questions, stuff like that.

Have we gotten any word from the Imperial Fist guy yet? Has he arrived?

If it's only going to be an escort, then I say we bring fourty guys instead. Have the Chaplain begin mentally hardening them for the things they will see once on board. Have it a mix of veteran squads, and others. Also, have one of the squads be Kappa squad.

If we get any kind of contact from D'angers in the future I'd like to monitor/record our conversations.
>>
2. Bestiary(trains and grows beasts that you bring there, can be used for war or training)
3. Nuclear Generatorium(infinite energy)

I vote for those 2

The bestiary to train those ice dragon things to ride to war, and the infinite power so we do not rely on fuels from the planet or anything for power.

Also Skargan, if you haven't been watching the chat. I'll just lay out our plan here. We want to catch D'angers read handed. Hopefully if/when we get this artifact, we want to have some ships on "stand by" to come in and disable his ship from leaving, board him, and arrest him. In the meantime, have the rest of our fleet go to stop these illegal xeno goods. Same thing, disable and make arrests. And as that happens. We want to use our network to spread "propaganda" about how D'angers is a heretic and a traitor throughout the populous. Make them thirst for his head kind of thing.

There are two ships:
"Nornos" - poses as a pilgrim ship, but it never goes to any holy worlds
"Odysseus" - merchant ship that has unexplainable gaps in it's ship log while operating on the fringes of Sector.

"Odysseus" will is expected to come back to Tachion Primaris by the end of this year, there is no information on "Nornos". Both ships look to be non-military built, unless their weapons are masked. Also you have the adress where black market auctions are happening on Tachion Primaris.

Getting out this information was a costly thing, you lost a few dozens of good men, some of them cracked under torture and gave out others. You lost 11% network strength. There are no statues for these nameless heroes, it's just one more lesson that living as a spy is shit.

network strength 32%

Have the Cruiser "Destiny" search for the "Nornos" while "Interimus" and the "Aspera Dominus" move in to intercept the "Odysseus" before it can land. In the meantime have our network point out the hiding place for this black market deals to a squad of 30 brothers to go in and capture/arrest everyone there. Listen to this while onboard space hulk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjrfAfbt72Y

As your landers board the space hulk, you see Dercius already waiting for you on the ancient, stained landing pad. He is wearing light power armour, but because of seemingly normal atmosphere inside the hulk, his helmet face-plate is open:
>I trust you with our lives, marine. If you do your part, I'll make sure that we come out of this VERY rich. Now, please take this(he hands you some kind of radar). This is showing the way towards the container. Aleph, my psyker, assured me that for now the warp seems to calm around here, but nonetheless I want you to lead the way and guard as from whatever happens.
You notice that Dercius' group is indeed composed from three techpriests, three bodyguards and a twisted psyker, but clearly sanctioned psyker, just as he promised. They stand and wait behind you, expecting you to lead the way.

As you are approaching a road junction, Arcon, Sergeant from Kappa squad, the famed Soulkillers, approaches you and reports:
>Sir, we noticed an unidentified patrol ahead. Well, not so much identified as 'felt'. As I told you earlier, Emperor grants as power to sense evil when we give him sacrifices. We have dispatched them, 8 humans and one unidentified reptilian xeno, from the looks of it - mercenaries, but they had Chaos stars on brand new weapons that they were probably given only recently. At last, you seem to have reached some kind of a hangar. In the middle of it is the elevator that goes up, and your radar indicates that artifact is one level above you. However there are three Traitors on the elevator.

From their red armour and crossed arms symbol on the shoulder pads you identify them as Red Giants, a rebellious Chapter that was declared Excommunicatae Traitoris over two millenia ago.You realise, that there is small chance to take them all out as not to raise alarm and they don't seem as if they are going to leave soon. what do you do?

I will not disregard it because it's a good roll and you stated that you are going up.

As industrial elevator gates open up, in front of you you see a scene of something what is about to become a ritual - around a hundred of shaved cultists sitting in circles around some ancient chest that is marked with glyphs of all kinds and chaos runes. As you open fire on the mass of cultists, from the other side of the hall Chaos Space Marine appear, 11 of them, lead by a Sorcerer with an ever-changing face. As he enters the room, he unleashes a terrible storm of warp electricity on you, but somehow it dissipates before it can reach your ranks. The bodyguard that came with you, collapses on the ground from the pure shock it seems, but soon gets up and joins the fight. As your forces clash, there is no mercy, it is the first fight where you meet your cursed brothers. Even though their experience is greater and they are supported by the fell powers of the warp, your numbers, luck and sheer fury carry the fight. Brother Astelion fell, hit by enemy bolters, but you and Arcon smashed into their ranks and in less than a minute killed 4 traitor marines. Elegion, sniper who(even though he was given no credit) single-handedly killed ork warboss on Varda, managed to get another two kills, before Kappa squad ripped another traitor in close combat. Techmarine Sylus cut his way through the mass of cultists, using his Mechanicus Power-axe as a scythe and met Sorcerer in single combat. Chaos wretch, feeling that somewhy warp abandoned him, tried to take sylus with force of arms, but within moments Techmarine burried his axe into traitors skull.
>>

The rest of the Traitors fled, seeing that this is not a combat they can win, but one of them slipped on the blood of other heretics and fell. As everyone approaches to him, Arcon jumps forward, slashes off his arms so that he would pose no danger and declares:
>He is to be a sacrifice for the God-Emperor and his soul will be harvested! Soulkillers, for the Emperor!

Do you react anyhow to this? What do you do next?
>>
>>19472783
You see that Arcon's men are preparing their ritual daggers, while Arcon is ripping off armour plates from the Traitor... You've heard that they have an elaborate ceremony that they perform when they harvest souls from particularly strong enemies...
>>
>>19472783
Stop him. "You will NOT use the souls of the heretics and traitors. They are lost and damned, and they shall only bring damnation upon you with their tainted souls." Turn to the rest. "Secure the artifect. It is clearly tainted. We will remove it from the hands of these heretics and leave quickly." Kill the guy with no arms, and order everyone to start getting the hell out of here.

You persuade or order him? Roll d100... it seems he really values this prey.

Also, radio the Apothocary and mini squad. Inform them that we're leaving soon. Make way back to the elevator and start heading down.
>>

Arcon steps down silently.
>Yes, Master.
He isn't happy, but it seems he doesn't value his beliefs so much as to openly opose you.

In this room, there are three things of interest:

Sorcerer's Staff - a Relic, but very tainted. do you want to learn warp magic by any chance?

Various golden statues and jewels around the Altar are worth 20 Wealth. If you want, you can take them, but they also can possibly be cursed/tainted.

Finally, there is the artifact, a chest in the middle of now ruined ritual. Dercius' bodyguard opens his mouth:
>It's terrible... It seems chaos cultists wanted to use the xeno artifact as a sacrifice. I will check whether it's really that, what we are looking for, or just a trick of warp.
He approaches the chest.

What do you do?
>>
>>19473042
Take nothing cursed.
>>
>>19473055
>Nothing potentially cursed.
>>
>>19473076
>>19473055
Please notice that then almost anything from the space hulk is potentially cursed. Just syan.
>>
>>19473095
Aside from the Xeno Artifact I mean.
>>

Bodyguard opens the chest and takes out a handful of beautiful jewels. He starts slightly shaking, but what you for a moment mistake to be warp possession or corruption, seems to be emotions. He is crying, even though his face-mask hides the face from you. As you start approaching him to understand what's the deal, he puts the jewels into the chest, closes it and puts his hand on top of it. You then hear a slight humming sound in the back of your brain. What do you do?

You may roll perception d100

You feel some kind of energy concentrating around the bodyguard and the chest. Once you concentrated your sharpened senses on him, you manage to see through the mist that clouded your mind. Dercius mentioned taking only 2 bodyguards, but when you arrived there were three. And those gems, they looked just like something from space marine manuals on xenos... Spirit stones you think they were called. Some kind of very precious soul-containers for Eldars. Suddenly you hear humming louder and small white embers start sparkling around bodyguard and the chest. Bodyguard looks up into the ceiling.

Do you act in any way?

rolled 29 = 29

Attempt to...Stop him I suppose. Move towards the bodyguard, push/throw him out of the way and remove the box from its seating. I'll throw in a roll just in case I need to.

Ooh... That'll be interesting.

As you jump towards the bodyguard and try to push him aside, the light becomes even stronger and all of a sudden you feel very lightheaded, a feeling that means bad things for a space marine. You lose all of your senses for a moment, but when they do gradually come back, you see these guys surrounding you from all sides. And you are definitely not on the space hulk anymore.

that's it for today. not sure when the next session is going to take place, but it will be FUN.

Space Marine Chapter Master alone on an Eldar ship... What could go wrong?
>>
rolled 66 = 66

>>19473362
Alright, alright, alright! We can fix this...Poker face.
>>
>>19473392
disregard that roll!
>>

>>19473392
well, if you play it very well, your Chapter Master might live. on the other hand, Brethorius, as First Captain, can always take up your place...

btw, regarding the quest - do you have any suggestions how can i make it better? what would you like to see more? what would you like to see less, etc?
