The year is 298AL and the Tournament of the Hand is beginning. While travelling to the tournament, Donatello Bulwark and Maester Splinter were insulted and berated after rumours spread that House Bulwark had raided an innocent fishing village in House Dannett lands, culminating in an attack by two sellswords who had been fooled into believing they served Lord Alfric Dannett. The evidence for these accusations? A shield bearing the Bulwark arms found at the massacre. Maester Splinter sent word to Lord Leonardo to come to King's Landing at all haste, where they attempted to prove their innocence to the young Adham Dannett, but the hotheaded youth wouldn't listen, and sought judgement from King Robert. With help from the cunning young Orten Lugus, Leonardo soon learned that a bandit known as The Fox Knight was behind the attack, and possible the whole wicked plot. After speaking with the Braavosi merchant Maiyo Vierro, Leonardo set off with his old brother in arms Ser Joris Landseer to hunt down the Fox Knight, but instead only found a boar. Meanwhile, Donatello drowed his rage by drinking with a pair of Dornish knights. Ser Bryan Telson is a young hedge knight seeking the lost Valyrian blade Scorpion, and the older Ser Gennady Shanin is a letcherous and weasely man seeking to marry into wealth and power. After Maester Splinter returned from debating matters of Westerosi and Valyrian history in the conclave, the three of them spent the night at the tavern and wake to a breakfast of wild boar bacon and bread fried in the drippings, free for the men who graciously brought them the meat. Meanwhile, a few days sail back home, Ser Casey, Master-at-Arms, guards the great fortress known as The Shell and awaits orders from his lord.
It's the day before the tournament, and King Robert Baratheon will be holding a grand feast this evening. What do you do?

Attend of course. Can't let the Dannett's try and make themselves look like the injured party.

After spending the day inspecting your armour, choosing court clothes, and chatting with old Ser Joris over a mug of ale it's time to attend the feast. As is the custom, you've arrived long before the Royal Family or the Hand's have made an appearance, but the hall is already bustling with life. Nobles from the Seven Kingdoms, travellers from the Free Cities, prominent King's Landing citizens, even Jalabhar Xho the Summer Islander prince with his coat of feathers is there. Soon, Orten Lugus spots Leonardo and Donatello, smiles, and approaches them with a huge woman in a black mouning dress. "Bulwark! I hope today finds you better than the last one. May I introduce you to my sister, Marita Lugus. She is why I am here in King's Landing, to wed her to Langley Woods. That makes her third husband, my sister has a bad habit of driving men to their deaths."
"All good practice, my dear innocent brother. Perhaps I should find you a nice Tyrell so you can understand the joy of a wedding night", she quips as she gestures with her eyes towards Ser Loras.
"You see what a harridan she is! For your own sake, Donatello, if I try to set up a marriage between our houses, do as Iris Dannett and flee for your life!"
The siblings grin at their little jokes
>>
>>19497983
"Unfortunately, we take not one step back. Fortunately, running is moving forward."
>>
Lady Marita says "Ha! Very witty. Tell me, what events do you plan to enter? The jousts? Archery? The melee? If it weren't long gone, I would bet my maidenhead on my brother's friend Thoros the Red Priest taking that prize."
Orten makes a big show of sighing and rolling his eyes. "My sister is a true Lugus. I shudder to think what would happen to my poor brother were we a Dornish family."
Ser Naton Lugus is, in fact, also at the feast. He's swapping bawdy jokes with some Northerners, whiling away the time until the wine gets here.
>>
>>19498142
"My boy plans to try his hand at Archery, and the Melee. I myself am tempted to join the Melee. It has been a while since I've had a good fight."
>>
>>19498179
"Doubtless it will be a great sight to see!"
Ser Barristan Selmy enters the hall, followed shortly by King Robert and Queen Cersei, flanked by Kingsguard. Behind them walk Prince Joffrey arm in arm with Sansa Stark, little Myrcella and Tommen, and Lord Eddard Stark with his daughter Arya. The rest of the small council soon arrives, as does a short Braavosi man. With great pomp the King approaches his place at the head of the hall, as the guests find their seats. The room is quiet for a moment as everyone looks at the king (except for maybe Varys the Spider, who spares a glance in your direction).
"What are you waiting for? Bring out the feast!"
Servants begin streaming in, first bringing out loaves of bread with huge wheels of cheese, pots of butter, and cauldrons filled with a hearty leek soup. Soon these are followed by pies, quail eggs, and dried fruits and greens slathered with thick vinegar and oil. Barrels of wine and ale are tapped, and people start drinking and feasting.
>>
>>19498437
Listen in on the conversations around you.
>>
>>19498649

Bump.
>>
The feast continues, with roast beef covered with garlic and rosemary being brought out. Nuts and cheeses are made available for those who filled up on the earlier courses.
Orten and Marita chat pleasantly with the guests, with Marita being somewhat unladylike in her choice of topics. You notice Stark's little daughter laughing along with some of her jokes, after escaping the Hand's watchful eye. However, you can't help but hear comments made at her expense. "The Black Widow of Casterly Rock", people call her, though she didn't gain anything by the deaths of her young and landless husbands. Even little Arya's Dancing Master seems suspicious of her. Ser Naton is sitting with the King, matching him and his buddies drink for drink.
The Dannetts are looking uncomfortable. The three young squires seem unsure what to do, with both their strict father and strong wine present. Ser Adham looks serious, and has hardly anything to eat or drink. Only the big fat Merchant with them appears to be enjoying the King's hospitality, gossiping and joking with the guests. People do notice and comment on this, some saying he has a mild flux, others that his only appetite is for revenge, pointing out the Bulwark family as they do.
At some point, you notice Sansa Stark has left. The Hand of the King and the Master of Coin seem to be talking, and cast suspicious looks towards the Kingslayer.
At one point, Thoros of Myr drunkenly waddles over to your seat. "You, you're Stannis' men are you not? It seems he's joined the Faith, and any friend of Rhllor is a friend of mine. Takes a crazy bitch like Melly to get to the brother with a stick in his arse, I suppose. She, she don't understand it though. Rhllor is fire, and he's life. The King sure seems to love the fire in a wine and the fire between a woman's legs, ha ha!"
>>
>>19498978

İs he? Really?

with our best sarcastic look. Keep an eye on Dannetts.
>>
>>19499272
"Oh yes! That's the best part of our faith you see, we don't have to be celibate. I feel sorry for all those poor girls devoted to the Maiden. If it were my business, they'd soon be serving the Mother instead, ha ha. Say, you're fighting in the melee, aren't you? I heard about your guard getting hurt by bandits, nasty scrap that. What say I join your team? Two old Rebels, fighting side by side once more! I'll show you how I gave the Greyjoys a good thrashing!"

Adham Dannett isn't talking to anyone, and is nibbling on some walnuts and drinking water. The squires seem to have loosened up, with two of them laughing and joking and the third dancing with a young noblewoman. You pick up snatches of the Jester's singing
"The Turtle and Starling ventured forth
Where many fear to tread
They went in search of foxes
But they found a pig instead!"
Other verses refer to different guests, such as a spider climbing from a goblet and biting Little Ash on the lips, or a boy who tried to grab a Fish from a Wolf and got his little finger bitten.

I wonder if those gutless scoundrels of the Iron Beak will show their reeking plumage at the tournament. It's always cathartic to beat down on a Bussard when they rear their ugly heads.
>>
Seeing you approach, Ser Adham rises to his feet with a screech of wood on stone, and strikes the table with his fist. Everyone is silent.
"Knights of Westeros! Tomorrow we contend on the field of honour, but there are those here today who know nothing of honour! These so-called knights and their treacherous lord who slaugher innocent fishermen, women, and children have no place here except to face the King's justice! Your Grace, in the name of my father and my house, I implore you to hear my complaint against these murderers and reavers!"
King Robert wears a clear look of annoyance on his ruddy face, but a look from Eddard Stark and a few whispered words from Queen Cersei remind him of his duty.
"Alright, alright. What have my Brother's men done?"
"Not two weeks ago, a small fishing village was pillaged and the people slaughtered. The men were cut down, elders and children torn apart and burned, women in an unspeakable condition. These innocent smallfolk were left laying out for the wild animals, and the monsters who did this would have escaped justice were it not for one mistake."
He looks to his Master-at-Arms, who unwraps a dented and bloodied shield, bearing the turtle of House Bulwark. He holds it up and displays it, to shocked gasps from the nobles.
"This shield was found at the sight of the massacre. These cowards who kill unarmed women and children were in too much of a hurry to flee the site of their wickedness to bring it with them. House Bulwark is guilty, and House Dannett demands justice!"
King Robert thinks for a moment. "Allright, Bulwark, what do you have to say for yourself? I know you for a loyal bannerman and brave soldier, but this evidence is pretty damning."
>>
>>19499662
Give the Dannetts a stony look.
"We know nothing of this raid. Do you really think that we, beholden to as stern a lord as Stannis Baratheon, would even -consider- targeting innocent peasantry? What would we possibly gain? And even so, no man in our service would dare leave their equipment behind so clumsily. What's more, we were set upon in the Kingswood by sellswords- sellswords who claimed to be hired by none other than your own Lord Alfric, though their description of the man was perhaps inaccurate! I did not think the Dannets capable of stooping to such indirect thuggery."
>>
>>19499662

My lord, though i can understand why Dannets are suspicious of us, he is acting blindly. Falling for the tricks of someone else. Think about it sire. Would you order your many carry with themselves anything with mark of your house on it, if you ordered them to do such a thing. But here it is, a shield with our mark on it, found by Dannet house. My lords, i am a warrior, so was my ancestors. We have always fought with honour. We never took a step back. We are the House Bullwark, and to think we would commit such acts is an insult to us. I grieve for the innocent lives that are lost, but we are not the culprits. Dannets must see this.
>>
>>19499662
Demand trial by combat?

Or is this that kind of quest?
>>
>>19499837
what do you mean by that kind?
>>
>>19499790
"Oh yes, those men. They brought a terrified peasant to my tent, calling him a sellsword. He tells me they cut off his hand and threatened to castrate him for daring to raise a hand to the Bulwarks, though he yielded to them in good faith. Yet more proof of their savagery and madness!"

Orten Lugus stands. "Your Grace, I have spoken with Lord Bulwark, and the description of Dannett's imposter fits the outlaw known as the Fox Knight. This whole tragedy is, for all we know, simply the outpouring of a sick mind."

Robert seems slightly bored, and unconvinced by either side. It's quite likely he's a bit too drunk to be doing any judging for a while.
>>
>>19499912

Look at Ned Stark. Robbert is clearly not the real judge here.
>>
>>19499912
Address the Dannets.
"We have no desire to create emnity between our houses. If you insist on harbouring a grudge against us for deeds we are not responsible, so be it- but have the courage and the decency to do so directly, as we would. Seek us out in the melee tomorrow, perhaps- ill will or no, we're not opposed to sending you packing with a bloodied nose in front of the good folk of King's Landing."
>>
>>19499940
Ned Stark is deep in thought. It's hard to read him, but you can see that having a Lannister bannerman on your side does you no favours
>>
>>19499988
"Melee? You don't deserve to fight on the field of glory."
He steps towards you, removes his glove, and throws it to your feet.
People begin whispering and muttering among themselves.
Robert rises. "Very well. Let the matter be settled tomorrow. The first match of the tournament will be a Trial by Combat between Adham Dannett and the Bulwark's champion. May the Seven lend their strength to the just."
After a moment of silence, he turns to the musicians. "Well, get back to playing. I don't care what you start with, I have to piss." He walks out of the great hall, two Kingsguards following behind.
>>
>>19500067
Sigh and grimace, then return to our seat and have something to eat while mulling over the situation? Who should we have represent us? Donatello, perhaps- Seven knows he should let off some steam. If only there was some way to dissuade the Dannetts from pursuing this misguided vendetta.
>>
>>19500140
Well, do we have any idea what Adham will bring to the table as far as arms and armor goes? I mean, it would be a bad idea to send Donatello in against someone with ranged weaponry.
>>
>>19500173
That wouldn't be allowed. The plan is for you two to ride at each other until one is unhorsed, and then continue the duel until one yields or is unable to continue.
>>
>>19500197
So it's THAT kind of Trial by Combat.

Send Donatello. For the reasons stated by >>19500140, and also because he's better on a horse.
>>
>>19499509

...I doubt we were invited.
>>
>>19500281
You might not be at the feast, but at the Tournament of the Hand they can't exactly keep people away. If nothing else, you can encourage smallfolk to boo and throw stuff at the Bulwarks

It's dawn on the first day of the tournament, and the hour of battle approaches.
Who do you choose as Champion for House Bulwark?
>>
>>19500197
Welp looks like we're gonna have Donnatello break the simpletons nose. Also which you of you guys decided that Donatello was Aberdonian?
>>
>>19500355
Donatello, obviously
>>
Donatello it is, then! Before the fight, perhaps seek Orten Lugus' advice on the Dannett's political position- perhaps if they've any other troubles, we can offer aid to show our honour, or redirect their attention.
>>
It's a cold morning, but the stands and grounds are filled with people eager for the prospect of some real blood. With a guardsman squiring for him, Donatello dons his armour and shield, and takes his tourney lance. Ser Adham Dannett is first into the list, his brow covered in sweat and his eyes steely with determination. The smallfolk cheer to see him. Donatello is not so warmly welcomed. There is polite clapping from the nobility, but the smallfolk are quiet, but for a few scattered boos and cries of "Butcher". With the two of you before him, King Robert speaks.
"Ser Adham Dannett has requested trial by combat for the deeds he accuses House Bulwark of. Let him and their champion fight in the sight of Gods and Men, and may the one whose cause is righteous prevail!"
It seems Petyr Baelish has an opinion on who that will be, as he's started making bets with the nearby lords.

The two knights ride to either side of the division, level their lances, and charge. Describe your plan and roll 3d6 for attack.
>>
rolled 3, 3, 1 = 7

>>19500546
Hit 'im in the goolies with the lance that'll learn him.
>>
>>19500484
Speaking with Orten, he explains that the main problem facing the Dannetts is the disappearance of their daughter Isis. She was betrothed to a rich but old and fat merchant named Ruben Piper, and fled to avoid the wedding. They really want to find her as the marriage was arranged to pay the debts they owed to Piper.
He seems confident that your son will be victorious in the lists, and show your house to be innocent.
>>
Donatello is brash, but he's not underhanded. Go full-bore at Dannett, but go for a solid strike to the shield.
>>
rolled 2, 6, 5 = 13

>>19500582
Whoops, cannot into dice rolls.
>>
>>19500576
Both of you land heavy blows on the other's breastplate. Dannett topples from his horse, and struggles to get up.
Roll 3d6 and drop the lowest. You need to get 12 to remain on the horse.
>>
rolled 3, 4, 1 = 8

>>19500622
E're we go
>>
rolled 5, 2, 3 = 10

Hang in there Donatello.
>>
>>19500633
Right thats it I'll not roll for a while now.
>>
>>19500633
Donatello also falls to the ground, and quickly stands, drawing his sword to continue the fight. Adham manages to role to his side, and rises to a crawl, before collapsing and begining to shake. Foul smelling vomit leaks from his visor as a Maester and Dannett's squires carry him from the field, and a veiled woman in the stands covers her eyes in horror and starts to leave.

"Trial by combat has been fulfilled! The Warrior has smiled upon house Bulwark and proven their cause. Let there be no more talk of the matter, but let the tournament commence!"
There is scattered applause and cheering at the King's speech. Littlefinger seems very pleased by the result.
>>
>>19500715

>>
>>19500715
...Wait what?
>>
>>19500715
Oh shit. We made Littlefinger happy, this can't be good.
>>
>>19500734
>>19500715
Must've rolled even worse than we did.
Hmm. The veiled woman might be significant. Perhaps while Maester Splinter tends to whatever slight injury Donatello has suffered, Leonardo can seek out Thoros and any other friendly House representatives and socialise a bit. We're rather alone at the moment in terms of allies, save for a conniving merchant.
>>
Donatello is unharmed, apart from a few bruises and scrapes. Hardly worth a Maester's attentions. At the tournament grounds they see Gregor Clegane kill a young knight, the shards of his shattered lance impaling his neck. More worrying is that after this Ned Stark is seen at the Dannett tent, asking questions of their Maester.

It doesn't take long to find Thoros at the tavern where you're staying. Having won a joust, he's got an excuse for all the drinking. "It's a shame about that poor Dannett boy's injury. May Rhllor see him back to health. Still, it's good to know you've been cleared of all suspicion."
>>
>>19500932
Indeed and though I should be against saying so, his bad fortune is annoying. I'd wanted to give him a proper beating for those accusations. At lwast this looks like good luck for the4 rest of the tournament.
>>
>Is it just me or is anyone else suffering from cloud flare?
>>
>>19500999
>just you mate, although I do have a bad case of recaptcha
>>
>>19500958
"Save your fire for the Melee. The purse is pretty fat this year, and fine living doesn't come free."
Soon, Ser Joris bursts into the tavern clutching a letter
"I have him! I've got the bastard! That villain the Fox Knight has challenged me to a duel. It will be has last mistake."
Ser Gennady laughs. "I didn't know you were sober enough to read. If only we could sell tickets. Fatso versus the loony."
>>
Oh Seven damn it someone poisoned the poor fuck and now we're gonna have Ned after us.

Fuck, at least he's honest.
>>
I'm off for a few hours
>>
>>19501366
..how many?
>>
>>19501366
Bumping in hopes of OP returning.
>>
Bryan Telson stands up. "I will go with you to help capture the Fox Knight, Ser Joris."
Orten Lugus also offers to join, hoping that he can convince Lord Archay to surrender, given that he owes Lord Lugus his life.
"And you, Lord Bulwark? Will you join me again to finally trap the Fox?"
>>
>>19503888
"Aye. That I will."
>>
>>19503915
"Very well. Bring some men along, and meet me by the King's Gate. The Fox is a tricky fellow, and I don't want to let him slip from my grasp!"
>>
rolled 13 = 13

>>19503956
"A fox hunt it is. We shall see you there."
>>
>>19503956

Lets take our best 7 men with us then head for the King's Gate. Donatello stays behind and we tell him to come after us with remainder of our troops that if we dont return in 4 hours.
>>
>>19503956
Well, let's do that then. Oh, and tell Donatello to keep on his guard.
>>
>>19503978
Better plan. Do this.
>>
The 11 of you head out into the Kingswood, to the clearing detailed in the letter Ser Joris holds. It takes about an hour to reach it, during which time Ser Bryan tells the tale of the Valyrian blade Scorpion to Orten and Leonardo.
Eventually you near the clearing, and Bryan signals for you to stop. "We can't just march on in. If Lord Archay sees the lot of us he'll just disappear into the Kingswood. Let's split up. Ser Joris and Orten will walk into the clearing, as they have good reasons to meet him. The rest of us flank the clearing, and move in to capture the Fox Knight."
"Just walk in like that?" Orten asks. "I'm no Knight. What if he tries to kill me?"
"Fear not. My sword will protect you!" Ser Joris exclaims
>>
>>19504082
"If he tries to kill you, I'll try to get you out of the clearing as fast as possible. Don't worry about it.
>>
>>19504082

Lets take the left flank. Split our men into two groups. 4 of our men will take the left flank while 3 of our men and us will continue, trying to get behind the enemy.
>>
>>19504082

Do we have crossbows or bows? If he tries to run kill his horse.
>>
You split up and circle around the clearing. It's not too long before you hear voices.
"Lord Archay! I am Orten Lugus, son of Konrad Lugus to whom you owe your life. Show yourself!"
A tall, muscular knight with a red fox on a pale blue field as his sigil emerges from the woods. His face is lined with scars and wrinkles, his head is bald, and his thick moustache is starting to turn white. "Who were you travelling with?"
"Fellow members of House Lugus."
"Where is Lord Lugus?"
Soon, you hear the booming voice of Ser Joris. "Lord Achay! At least we meet again, but this time you will not escape!"
"Who the hell are you?" the Fox Knight replies.
"HAVE AT YOU!" Ser Joris lets out a war-cry and charges, sword in hand.
>>
>>19504173
Oh god dammit Joris. FLYING TACKLE HIM. We want this bastard alive.
>>
>>19504173

Order our first group to charge in to support them while continue moving forward with our men. Look for any enemy ranged support hising. If there are, take them out and cut enemys way out.
>>
>>19504173

Capture him, he is more useful alive than dead we can clear our name beyond the realm of doubt and shame the other house for being manipulated so easily.
>>
>>19504195

derp, i meant *hiding.*
>>
Joris strikes the Fox but his blade glances off his armour, leaving him open for a vicious cut down his left arm. At your signal, the four Bulwark soldiers charge in and attack, denting Archay's armour. Orten backs off, and circles warily around the battle, holding his sword in a defensive position
>>
>>19504264
"Remember, we want him alive. Crippling blows, not fatal ones if possible." Get into it ourselves, and attempt to hamstring him.
>>
>>19504264
GO FOR THE KNEES! THE KNEES!
>>
Archay drives his sword into Ser Joris' chest, piercing the old knight's rusty scale armour. Blood seeps out through the gap, and Joris can't fight much longer. Archay turns and starts to flee the clearing when he sees Lord Bulwark and his men standing in his way. The Dornish knight and the soldiers beat Lord Archay badly, and Lord Bulwark manages to stab his leg through a joint in the armour.
"Damned traitors! I will never yield!"
>>
>>19504366
Good, hit him in the face really hard. We'll wake him up in a cell.
>>
Archay hacks open a soldier's neck and tries to flee, but he's soon knocked to the ground. Ser Bryan steps on his forearm and kicks his sword away, and the Fox Knight is soon your prisoner.
>>
>>19504466
We're gonna question this fucker like the Inquisition.
>>
>>19504466

Quickly get Ser Joris and our soldier some medical help. We dont want to lose them. Tie up the Fox Knight, after searching him throughly.
>>
Your soldier is already dead, his neck half severed by the mighty blow. You're no Maester, but Ser Joris' wound looks pretty bad. It's fairly deep, and looks like it broke a few ribs.
"I'm done for, Leonardo. I don't think I can make it back to the City. At least I know we got the bastard in the end." He's groaning in pain, and can't walk without help.

Lord Archay isn't easy to search. He struggles against your men with all his strength as they remove his armour, and when they try to tie him he headbutts one and makes a grab for his weapon.
"Look out!" Orten acts quickly and stabs the Fox Knight through the ribs.
>>

why do i have the feeling this was a scheme in a scheme in a scheme and the fox knight was intended to die before we could mend fences with the Donells.

also, petition to have our daughter/sister as a POV char.

lets not e a full on sausage fest and fulfil /tg/s desire to be a little girl.
>>
>>19504593
Oh you tit. OK, we'll put pressure on Joris's wound and carry him, he deserve to die a better death then some renegade.
>>
>>19504593
lets try and save ser joris.- bandage the wound up, and apply lots of pressure, hastily make a stretcher out of shirts and tree branches.
>>
lets have two stretchers and pressure- one for ser joris sent first and with all haste back and one for the fox knight getting the same treatment but a bit latter done by us and orten. we need to try and keep him alive.

we have what 3 men left, ourselves and orten.

we can make a stretcher in less the a minute and send to men with ser joris, then do another one and have the last man and orten or ourselves carry the fox knight. while the one between us and orten not carrying can walk by and ask questions

Song of Ice and Fire is one of the few RPGs to support playing the little girl.
Arya counts as an Adolescent, so that's a good choice for young April. I don't think you want to play as girl-Rickon. Adolescents have 150 XP for abilities. It costs 10 to raise an ability to 3 and 40 to raise it to 4 (the maximum for an Adolescent)

Ser Joris doesn't look well as you meet up with your son and his soldiers. You quickly send one of your men off to get Maester Splinter, to save your old friend.
Roll 4d6, drop the lowest. You need at least 9 for him to survive.

rolled 1, 6, 6, 1 = 14

Heh, same outcome.
>>
Maester Splinter cleans and stitches the wound, and tries to set the broken ribs. He doesn't know if Ser Joris will live, but if he makes it through the next week without suffocating or being struck by fever he should survive.

4d6, drop lowest to see if the Fox can be saved. 15 or more is needed.
>>
rolled 4, 2, 5, 5 = 16

Maester Splinter can do nothing for Lord Archay, except give him Milk of the Poppy (if you wish it). He had lost too much of his blood in the fight, and the sword to his chest collapsed one of his lungs. His shallow, ragged breathing slowly grows lighter and lighter, and finally stops.
>>
>>19504680
well a arya type would be nice.

less mud crawling and longswords and orther such overt tomboyishness more cerebral rebellion with poisons, hand crossbows from beyond the curtains, and of course leather pants.

>>
As you bring Joris to his room, and have the Fox Knight's corpse sent to your ship, you notice something wrapped up in cloth in front of your tavern room's door. The cloth is tied with a cord with a folded slip of paper reading BULWARK.
>>

Open it.
>>

Inside the cloth is a finely made dagger with a Dragonbone hilt. It's a well balanced blade, and it looks like it came from the Free Cities, or possibly even old Valyria
>>

That's ours now. Search the wrappings for markings to find out who gave it to us.

"Oh, that's certainly true. Doubtless you'll soon meet some captain who doesn't want to pay tarriffs at your port, or who needs to move a little cargo around without dealing with petty matters like customs. Perhaps it'll be some rich merchant who was impressed by Donatello's efforts this morning and wants to find a husband for his daughter. Here in King's Landing, everybody's always after something."

It's how you look at Ironborn
That makes us bad or good
And I see us as members
Of a noble brotherhood!
>>
>>19505086

So true. It must be very tiring. Neverthless, it is expected, given the circumstances. Greed is in the human nature aftrer all.

Well, to put that aside, now with Fox Knight dead, getting a confession out of him is no longer an option. And Dannetts would surely press their charges in a later date.

Gather up our troops, summon Donatello and Splinter. Its time to have a meeting.
>>
>>19505170
Sounds good, though I was under the impression that since we won the trial by combat they can't do anything about the charges.
>>
>>19505235
Not offically, but I doubt the Dannetts will let go of the grudge and cook up some reason to get back at us at a later date.
>>
Quick question has our house ever had a history of raiding? I was pretty sure we wanted to avoid that sort of thing since its anthema to a take and hold mentality. After all its easier to hold on to something that isn't wriggling like desperate prey in the jaws of a predator.
>>
Within an hour, most of House Bulwark's men are gathered at the Greentree Tavern. Doubtless the ones who couldn't be found are out drinking, whoring, gambling, or competing in feats of strength and agility at the fairgrounds. Ser Bryan is still there, telling Lya about the fight against the Fox Knight, but Orten has headed back to his family's pavillion unless you ask him to stay.
>>
>>19505260
The house history has lots of stuff about fighting off invasions and betrayal, so it looks like other people were trying to raid us instead.
>>
When is the melee?
>>
>>19505306
Five days away. You have plenty of time to do investigations or send for Ser Casey before they begin.
>>
>>19505322
Ask if anyone has been seen with a dragonbone dagger, things like that don't go missed.
>>
>>19505263

Alright, order our men to secure a perimeter for us where we can talk without anyone spying on us.

Gather up the sergeants, Donatello and Splinter. Ask them abut what rumours they heard before starting to iscuss our plans.
>>
>>19505322
I think its a good idea to send a raven to Ser Casey just to give him an update on whats happened so far. I don't think its a good idea to have all the notable males from our house so together where misfortune could so easily befall them all.
>>
>>19505358

Lets have our meeting, after we can do that.
>>
>>19505334
Nobody recognises it, and the Goldcloaks haven't listed any daggers as stolen lately. The tavernkeeper Lyle Brewer doesn't remember who brought it in, as people are always going up to the rooms with whores.
>>
>>19505394
Shit, alright, proceed as normal. Investigate the dagger's wrapping.

Question our sergeants and Splinter if they heard any interesting rumour lately. Praise Donatello on his succes at joust.
>>
>>19505347
While waiting for his father to return, Donatello heard some people talking about the Hand of the King. Apparently he's going to fight in the melee as a mystery knight, but you can tell who it is because he'll be wearing a helm like a bull's head. Splinter, spending time with the other Maesters, has heard about Adham Dannett's condition. Apparently he's become so weak the convulsions have stopped, and he's producing a thin, bloody flux. Some think he suffered a bruised brain in the joust, and others think he had been unwell and should never have entered the lists.
The Sergeants can't tell you much you haven't already heard. Marita Lugus is a black widow, Thoros of Myr has a fire-sword, Maiyo Vierro's drink is so strong King Robert considered banning it after the horrific morning after, and so on.
>>
>>19505542
Agreed. Also do we now need to step in to fill the shoes of our armsman that died for the grand melee?
>>
>>19505579
We need to appeal to the Hand. Explain to him what's happened thus far.
>>
>>19505431
The wrapping is plain linen. It could have come from anywhere, before being used to wrap the dagger. With all your observation however, you notice something funny. The pommel seems to have shifted around a little while you were handling the dagger.
>>
>>19505579

Alright. Thanks our sergeants for their good work. Tell them to be on alert from now. Double the trainning sessions.

Donatello can spend time with oter knights and squires, but advise him to train well, not just for melee.

Tell Splinter to visit libraries and search for any information, that is valuable. Tell him to copy what he found and bring them to you. Also tell him to keep his ear open for any rumours between maesters.

>>19505616

İnsect the pommel. See if it can be moved.
>>
>>19505616
OK, I think the handle might be soft, as to incriminate us with out hand print.
>>19505579
Keep everyone on their toes, we may need to act at anytime.
>>
>>19505629

>>
>>19505616

>>
>>19505612
You've got plenty of men, plus Thoros of Myr and Ser Bryan Telson want to fight with your team.

>>19505629
With a little fiddling, you're able to twist the pommel off the hilt, revealing a small hidden compartment. Within it is a glass vial with a few drops of clear liquid clinging to its sides.
>>
>>19505675
Have the maester investigate this liquid.
>>
>>19505686

seconded.
>>
>>19505686
At first glance I thought you said "have the maester ingest this liquid".

But yeah, seconded.
>>
>>19505675
Now, what ever are the chances that this vial contains a potent poison well known for its symptoms much like the young master Danette is experiencing?
>>
>>19505686
Maester Splinter will need proper equipment and reagents, and it could take some time to identify the substance. He should be able to access the laboratories of the Maester's Conclave fairly easily though.
>>
>>19505734

Tell him to do it. And after that he may continue studying on his own pace, gathering any usefull information that can be find in the libraries of Kings Landing.

>>19505629

Our orders are given. Now we go to sleep. and tomorrow, we will try to get a meeting with Ned Stark.
>>
The next morning, a messenger arrives. Since the Trial by Combat was technically part of the tournament, Donatello Bulwark is entitled to continue on to the second round, if he wishes. His opponent will be Walthor Frey, a young knight from the Riverlands
>>
>>19505856
He will fight.

We should try to get an audience with the Hand. Explain to him what's going on.
>>
>>19505856
LETS KICK HIS ASS.
>>
>>19505856
Then let him continue, this time try to stay on your horse though eh lad.
>>
The messenger promises to pass on your message to the King's Hand.

Walthor Frey is a slight young man in armour that's a hand-me-down from countless Freys.

Back at the Tavern, Ned Stark has agreed to meet with Leonardo Bulwark. It seems he was already planning to head that way to enjoy the local brothel, the Jade Garden. Apparently he's been asking which whores Jon Arryn liked best so he could try them out.
Shortly after noon, Lord Stark arrives, somewhat sweaty but looking suprisingly well groomed for a man who'd spent the day with whores.
"Lord Bulwark. I hear you want to talk with me."
>>
>>19506056
Who are you again?
>>
>>19506018
I mistyped. Shattering his lance on the picket.

>>
>>19506056

I did Lord Stark. It is important i think. I have some suspicions, and you are the one of few persons i can trust.
>>
>>19506127
Ned nods his head. "You are one of Stannis' bannermen. If you could trust anyone here, he wouldn't be in Dragonstone."
>>
>>19506127
How should we go about explaining the poison and the dagger to him? This is all admittedly far more elaborate a plot for my liking.
>>
>>19506222
Get in IRC

We are attempting to discussion it there.
>>
"Lord Hand Stark, I shall get to the point as you are no doubt a busy man. You know very well of the feud that has begun between House Bulwark and House Dannett, but it is none of our doing. Subterfuge is not the way of the turtles, as you also well know. I and a handful of trustees attempted to apprehend the man we think responsible for the mess, the man known as the Fox Knight. Unfortunately, he didn't yield. He even got one of my younger soldiers, poor thing. As such he is not able to testify, but you must believe us when we say it was not our work. We would never resort to reaving."
>>
"You were always a good man, Bulwark. I don't think you'd betray your Lord's house. I know people are beginning to talk about your son's victory yesterday, and I have reason to think Stannis has enemies who aren't afraid to use poison. Winter is coming, and young Adham's death may only be the first snowflake."
Ned thinks for a moment. "What can you tell me about the Fox Knight? Do you know any reason he has to hate you or Lord Dannett? Have you discovered how your shield ended up on Dannett lands?"
>>
>>19506543

Tell him what we know. Also tell him about the dagger which we gave to our measter so he can investigate it.
>>
>>19506567
and perhaps the suspicious way he died. Ornet may have been there exactly for that reason.

>>19504825
Id prefer we play as something from outside westeros if we get another game or quest in ASoIaF setting. perhaps a bravosi....
>>
>>19506567
Agreed. Ned is known to be an honorable man. Telling him everything is a good way to get on his side.
>>
>>19506543
"I've long since had a feud between a pirate, the dreaded Shradder. His ways of combat are without honor, and, in his time, he could've collected arms and sigils of his victims, my soldiers and ships among them. If he and the Fox Knight were working together, it is not hard to see where the weapon could come from."
>>
>>19506567
Thinking for a moment, you remember Orten mentioning that during the war it was your uncle Rafael Bulwark who wounded the Fox Knight before Lord Konrad Lugus slew him. You tell Ned about this and the dagger. Hearing about the Dragonstone hilt, Ned is shocked. "This is far more serious than I thought. It's good you came to me before someone else decided to tell me about it. When your Maester learns what kind of poison it is, send a man you trust to tell me. Don't let him talk to anyone else, or whoever is behind this might decide you know too much to live."

Arriving at the Tourney grounds the first thing you learn is that Adham Dannett has died. His squires have begun taking down the pavilion and are preparing to return him to their lands. From what you hear, his Maester, Ferris, and his sister's fiance Ruben Piper are planning to remain in King's Landing for some time.

After seeing Jaime Lannister unhorse a northman in bronze armour, it is Donatello's turn to joust. This time he faces the Northman, Jory Cassel. This time, as he rides into the lists the crowds cheer for the young Turtle Knight, excited by his recent victories.

>>19507223
Ser Naton Lugus, who won his joust, is first in line to take advantage of your hospitality. He congratulates you on a good showing in your first tournent.

Meanwhile, in the Red Keep, Maester Splinter is waiting to be admitted to the Tower of the Hand, having discovered the liquid was the Tears of Lys, a tasteless and odourless poison which kills a man by destroying his stomach and bowels. He's left alone while the guards go to ask Stark if he's expecting a message from House Bulwark, or so he thinks when he hears a soft, high pitched voice behind him. "It is tragic what happened to young Adham, isn't it?"
>>

>>
When we get back to the shell we should perhaps see if we can get some special stuff out of the free cities .

Introducing tercios in Westeros would be a nice WTF for everyone involved, but more on the sane side of things, mor gold means more ships, and more ships means more security for us and our port.

the shale is so well defended because its a decent castle on a fucking island. the more ships you have (and perhaps some dragonfire would not be amiss) the better you can mitigate most if not all actions by smugglers, pirates, raiders and invading fleets
>>
>>19507480
sounds good. Also yeah no insulting the guy who like to poison people.
>>
>>19507468
"Yes, these are dark and humbling times. Even in the Westerlands, poor Lord Lugus has been the victim of petty theft. His collection of trophies from the Rebellion has been ransacked, and your uncle's shield stolen. Doubtless nothing more than some drunk squire acting on a bet, of course."

>>19507480
"Please, do not let me detain you. I will make sure Lord Stark receives your message. When you're back home, I do so hope you'll send me some pretty little birds to sing songs of the narrow sea to me."
>>
>>19507524
technically not he poisoned people. varys likes onehanded crossbows.

the Maester on the small council did most likely. agent of the lannisters, Orten another lanister , killing the fox in self defence after manoeuvring himself in the hunt for the fox ... this sound like a organized lannister work to fuck up house baratheon in anticipation for taking the throne, since only one house can truly be called to be backing the future king, and they start to weaken baratheon from when the future king joffrey is still a teen.
>>
>>19507569
ahhh.... how about we deliver the message personally.

lets not insult varys but at the same time, lets do our due to lord stark and show we sent a man we thrust, to deliver the message. the spider shure as fuck cant be one of those.

also, it seems the spider graced us with a lead or two.... lets investigate after this is over.

Varys walks off, his gold robes brushing against the floor.
>>

May as well throw him a bone. 'Was there any particular type of songs you were interested Lord Varys?'
>>
>>19507675
oh ,we thrust him. just he is sadly not of house bulwark...

Id love him to be though...

we thrust him to be a sneaky git, and we thrust him to always know more than anyone can guess. but since the message was requested from house bulwark, it must be delivered by house bulwark. not the spider of the king. - the spider of the king can report on it though...

its politics and he knows it. but that does not mean that he will not play his little games of pretend hurt and jab like he does with littlefinger.

Of course i am a bit impressed he holds our Maester to that level.

oh well, perhaps we should send him something interesting, when we find something. you never know what quid pro quo might get us.

You're getting a tad Freudian there...
>>
>>19507690
"Sailor's songs of the Free Cities, ballads of the Dothrak Khals, the chants of distant Asshai. All the music Essos has to offer."
>>
>>19507690
not formulated that way.

" Lord Varys, speaking of birds pray tell which songs you would enjoy most"

This way he can ask for something more specific about the Narrow sea.

Albatross, seagulls , and all manner of birds having a various manner of habits and preferred habitats at various times of the year.

of course they are not little but i dont know what kind of birds are in the fictional land of the narrow sea.

Varys is a tad more Freudian than that. but its a start.
>>
>>19507747
oh well not as subtle as i was hoping for, but then again, lacking a ornithological guide to westeros it will have to do.

do we know anything new we could tell him now?
I doubt that. but we can compliment him on his exotic selection, and tell him we would love to share folkloric songs and singing canaries/birds.

(we will have to analyse everything carefully as to what he can use for what, because he will most likely repay us in kind, giving us only intel that wont hurt his end goal... and since we dont have a end goal it will be difficult to judge.)

Hmm if we do take up the offer of that 120% drink then sending a bird to him with some songs of the nation sounds apropo
>>
>>19507798
subtext is hard to read due to text lacking voice tone.

he means with those songs intel, and of course you know it, but i dont understand the implication of drinking the what? 120% drink? there does not exist something like that. you cant have something like that- thermodynamics and mathematics dont allow it!

at 80% you get medical grade sanitation alcohol.

and at 100% its pure alcohol - there is nothing higher to be gotten than that in alcohol concentration....

> drinking and sending messages

forgotten words.

120 proof. Which as around 70%. Not sure what that has to do with Varys, though, unless you mean asking Maiyo Vierra about goings-on in Braavos
>>

I cannot unto grammar. I meant that new alchoholic drink the merchant from the last thread wanted us to invest in. I was trying to suggest that we'd invest in his business and also get more intell about his (the merchants) house and sources. Sorry if my meaning's unclear.

good idea, everyone likes dornish wine but if they get blockaded they're going to need a replacement. Us.
>>
>>19507962
Exactlly and everyone gets talkative around drink, even if they aren't imbibing themselves.

the nature of the vice.

Okay, I think that's a good place to stop. We've got tomorrow to do some investigation, the Archery Tournament to win, and then the day after fight in the melee. Plus seeing who wins the tournament (SPOILER: It's the Hound)
>>
>>19507930
Oh, that, why that is of course a good buisness and a good way to send representatives to Essos for some exotic songs, while also making legitimate coin, and a way to scope out pirates and try to make their lives miserable in other ports and divine home ports of theirs.

also sorry, but i am illiterate with the proof system, i am only familiar with the percentile system of alcohol measurement.

No worries, just glad the idea made sense on the board and not just in my head.
