Then my car breaks down, the tow-truck guy has two hookers in the back when he comes to grab me, and the only hotel in town stopped accepting cash, the same day my credit card expired.
>Today, my car's transmission is FUCKED, and my friend (only one who can give me a ride) needed to go to a doctor (on base, where I routinely get pistol whipped by the MPs)
and then drags me to an S&M convention, sense she needed to meet a friend there.

"And about the age thing... I can't see how it's related. If it becomes relevant I'll let you know."

Mooch gives you a holler. Apparently the Van's from a rental agency across town.

You head out, Along with Dave, Laurie andn Dervish. On the way out the door, Dervish calls his friends and asks them to come watch over the others while you're gone.

You see your team's SUV parked nearby. Next to it is some sort of smaller car that Dervish starts to walk to.

[ ] Ride with Dervish.

Having more vehicles means that we can investigate multiple leads if more than one pops up.

We'll ride with Dervish, Dave and Laurie will go together in the SUV.
>>

Seconding this.

Also, when we're in the car with Dervish, I think we should bring up the fact that the assailants knew that we had asked Dervish to train us, and that's how they tricked us.
>>

You quickly climb into the car with Dervish.

"Buckle up."

"What?"

"Buckle up."

"Uh, kinda rushing."

"This is a Evo Double X Black Custom. Buckle your goddamn seatbelt."

A few moments later, the two of you are on the road.... out of town.

"What the hell?"

"Trust me." He then adjusts a couple of dials, and floors it on the outskirts, blasting over the low dunes in a close circle around the city.

"Hey. Those guys got me...."

"Because you thought they were me in disguise? You should have thought that one out more: I was in our base when we were talking on the vid-com. If the attack started while I was still there...."

"SHIT."

"First step in deception is to keep them from thinking somebody is trying to trick them."

"How'd they know about the call then? He mentioned the training thing specifically."

Dervish shoots you a look while he shifts gears.
>>
>>19563778

"Your bases coms have been compromised. I'll look into it, meanwhile keep anything sensitive off the grid."

"Alright...."

Soon you're pulling into the lot, Dave and Laurie haven't arrived yet.

After a few more minutes of complaining and not giving a shit about where the vans are stored normally, you were TOLD that THIS van would be HERE, right NOW.

You then get a message from Dervish.

"We've got a name."

You throw up your hands in irritation at the lack of professionalism, and storm off back to the car.

A minute later, you hear from Dave that Mooch found the van: torched out in a parking lot. He and Laurie were gonna go check it out.

"Mr Arcmed? Ever hear of this guy?" You ask Dervish, getting into the car.

"Nope. I'll pass it onto Dave."

The two of you get to the site of the burned car only moments after they arrived. After thoroughly searching the area, you draw the conclusion that the site's useless to you. Whoever did the disposal job was a pro, no cameras with a clear line of site or anything. No physical evidence spared the fire.

Then Dave's contact calls him back. "Apparently, 'Mr Arcmed' is a known alias of a hacker calling himself 'Archimedes'. Apparently somebody using the handle 'Dr Faust' contacted him for...." He then gets quiet, looking at Dervish's expression. "You know something about this?"

"This 'Faust' is a bastard I know well. His real name is Dr Konrad Braun. He's a geneticist and psychologist. Though what his connection to this is....."

"Dr Braun?" Dave asks "That sick fuck my Dad hired when I...."

"Guys? Focus. We need to find Cass first, we can go poking at conspiratorial shadows later."

"Agreed." Dervish says. "He's a concern, but not the most pressing one. What do we have to work with?"

"Well, apparently this Faust guy wanted to 'help' somebody, and needed Archimedes to get some sort of asset for him in order to do so."

"Shit." You comment. "So we need to find some sort of-"

"If he's meeting somebody for an exchange, it's going to be in a location where he feels reasonably secure, is off the radar, and gives him plenty of ability to determine the goods. Assuming the 'goods' is Cass, that means hospital. More specifically: Abandoned hospital, decent shape, possibly undergoing renovation."

"There's one just like that." Laurie comments. "St. Mary's? They were rebuilding it. They were planning to transfer Kate over there in a couple of weeks, prior to her recovery."

"Well, I've got my two pistols on my, a 1911 in my shoulder harness and a silenced PPK in my boot. I've also got three knives and my belt."

"Your belt?"

"Hidden glass blade, simple electric charge locks it straight, quick switch makes it an almost undetectable rapier. Then there's my kit in the car."

You look at his kit. Two different assault rifles, a pump action shotgun, a rifle with a score that's AT LEAST a .50, a pair of identical SMGs, and enough ammo to supply all of them in a pitched battle.

"You gonna share?" Dave asks. When Dervish shakes his head in response, he presses "Don't trust us?"

"Gene locked. I am the only person who could fire these."

You arrive at the hospital, and after forcing your way into the front you see clear signs of people passing through.

Following it back, enter a wide lobby where a man with an immaculately groomed beard is waiting at a rail overlooking your position.

"I was HOPING...." He begins with a slight drawl "That I could have a little more time with the girl before I left. Oh well, I suppose I have what I need."

He gestures with his cane towards a hallway on your left. "She's in a room down that way. Quite unharmed, and I removed the memory of the rather minor procedure from her mind, so she wouldn't be overly bothered by the experience."

"End goal? I don't have an 'end' goal. To a scientist there's never an end to the work, to the experiments, only looking into what's next. As for what I wanted from the girl... I needed a bit of her blood to make a cure for a specific ill."

"I never bothered to give her a name. Most of her batch ended up dieing in their cribs from one problem or another. In her I managed to find the proper combination for my work that would also survive. It's fortunate she lived this long, apparently the maturation helped make my intended result far more potent than anticipated. It bodes well for some of my other work."

"She was stolen from me, several years ago. I expect it was this 'Molly' who took her."

>>19564982

"...Attacks? I contracted a team to retrieve the girl for me. My involvement begins and ends there."

You hear a distant whooping noise, and realize a helicopter is approaching the roof. "I'm afraid I must take my leave now. I hope you won't be terribly offended when I say that I hope to never see you again." And with that he heads up the stairs.

Dave, meanwhile, has reported that there are a lot of rooms over where he pointed, and he could use some help searching them before the chemical bomb goes off.
