You are Gerald DeFlynn. After doing some repairs on the Houndsoldier caused by your training bout with Vince, you enjoy some TV with your teammates before setting out in the Red Horn for a run, accompanied by Eri.

After taking some pot shots at some rocks, you head back while making small talk about the meteorite catastrophe that reshaped the entire planet. Ain't hindsight funny?

Continue to make smalltalk, enjoy each other's company, and get a good night's sleep, we've got a fight tomorrow.

Can't believe you guys missed archiving two threads.

Anyway what time is it? Do we have time to check out the job boards when we get back?
>>
>>19585470
You talk with Eri some more as you head inside the hangar door. Apparently she saw a news broadcast that claimed the minerals in the asteroids was having a positive effect in many regions, resulting in more plant growth than before the asteroid fell. Looks like this area missed out on that.

She gives you a kiss goodnight, and asks you not to wreck your zoid tomorrow. You make no promises.

You awaken early next morning, and to your surprise, all your teammates are present in the kitchen this morning. They've already made a hearty breakfast, and invite you to sit down, which you accept graciously.

>Who do you talk to?
>Audrey
>Eri
>Rick
>Vince
>waffles

>>19585568
Talk to the waffles, make a smiley face on one of them with bacon for the mouth and whipped cream for eyes.

Then talk to Rick, make sure he's not feeling any pre-fight jitters, that he's ready to beat the Hogs' faces in.
>>
>>19585591
Yeah, this'll work, I guess.

Regrettably there is no whipped cream at your disposal. You make do with some banana slices on hand, and use a croissant to give him a gentlemanly mustache. You name him Sebastian. You order him to fetch the paper, then devour him for his insolence when he does not comply.

"Hey Rick," you say amidst consuming the buttery facial hair, "how you feeling about today?"

He picks at his food a bit before answering. "I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous." he replies. "It's nothing I haven't gone through before. Once I hop in my Sinker and rev it a few times I'll be fine."

"No worries, man." you assure him. "I got your back."

He smiles in appreciation. "Thanks, dude."

>What do?
>>
>>19585758
Depends, how soon till we have to leave for the battle?
>>
>>19585758
Introduce Audrey to Sebastian, insist he is a gentleman of great class and taste.

This is partially for fun, but partially to subtly reassure Audrey that Zoid battling is all in good fun.

The battle is at noon. One on one battles air from 10 to 12, then team battles start playing, starting with D class, and ending in the evening with the scheduled A class battles.

Currently its not even 7, and you'll only need an hour's travel time to reach the designated zone, so you got a good 3 hours to kill
>>
>>19585846
Damn it that's not really enough time to do anything that we didn't already do yesterday.

Did we get the open battlefield we wanted or was that something the opponent gets to choose?
>>
>>19585804
Sebastian has unfortunately met his end. You settle for introducing his clean shaven cousin, Rolf. The girl giggles, and imitates you, somehow producing a waffle person of your own likeness, complete with scar and scrambled egg hair.

"My hair is not that curly." you protest.

"It is right now." she teases, and you realize you still have bed head.

>>19585946
Niether team usualy picks the battlefield. The ZBC chooses an area that will be fair for both teams.
Your battlefield will be a fairly open field, with a good deal of large protruding rocks. There's ample space for Rick to maneuver, really your Red Horn is the only one that might be hindered, and you can always just plow through it.
>>
>>19586011
Talk to Vince, when Eri isn't looking brofist him for the nice fight we had last night. See if he has any additions to our basic battle plan.
>>
>>19586120
You bring up the today's battle. "Any thoughts, V?"

"Honestly, tactics aren't my strong point. In a 4v4, there's even more variable to consider. My only idea is for me and Rick to use our speed to perform fast attacks and break off, with you and Audrey acting as support." He leans back and rubs his head.
"I guess I'll try to pick out a target to take out to put things in our favor. None of us have fought against these things before, so we'll likely have to wing it."

>What say?
>>
>>19586120
Yeah, this will be fine.

Honestly since we've already been over the zoids yesterday I just can't think of much else to do.
>>
>>19586469
Fortunately they're all the same so if you get used to one you're used to them all. Just imagine a smaller faster Red Horn without many guns.

After breakfast get a shower, stretch, mentally prepare ourself.
>>
>>19586469
Well, the initial plan should still work despite the obstacles, provided we don't start within weapons range of the hogs. The key is really just taking down one of them quickly, then Rick can use the speed of the Stinger to support whoever needs it as the rest of us go one on one.
>>
>>19586473
Not having much else in mind, you excuse yourself, clean up, put on your fightin' trousers, and go over your Red Horn one last time. No customization yet, but you hadn't have much time since finishing its restoration. You got the hang of it, more or less, so even though this is your first battle using it, your not worried.

"Yo, Gerald!" Vince calls to you. "You got a phone call!"

"Who's calling?"

"That loud girl. You wanna take it?"

>What do?
>>
>>19586594
Yeah, take the call. It'd be rude not to, we've got plenty of time before we leave.
>>
>>19586608
No reason not to take it I guess.

"Yeah, ok, can you relay it to my console?"

"Sure thing." He moves away, and about half a minute later your cockpit's hub blinks. You flip a switch.
"Hello?"

["....hey."] Sarah answers.

"Hey." you mimic. Both of you remain quiet.

["Sorry,"] she finaly manages to say, ["I thought I knew what to say here."]

>What say?
>>
>>19586755
Well, I should probably start by saying I'm sorry.
>>
>>19586797
I guess this. We never meant to lead her on.
>>
>>19586797
["Yeah? What are you sorry for?"]

You clear your throat a bit. "I'm sorry for what I did to you."

["Oh, you mean you're sorry for being nice to me, even though I'm a huge bitch, helping me, giving me advice, and worst of all, saving my life?"]

"Uh, maybe?"

You hear her sigh over the com link.
["Look, caterpillar dick, I'm not stupid. I'm well aware I wasn't helping my chances with the way I acted. And I know you didn't actually do anything to show interest on your end. I just..."] She pauses, and you consider saying something, but she continues. ["I guess what I'm trying to say is I was mad at myself, more than anything. I was being one of those stupid hormone driven teens you seen in movies and shit."]

"So...we cool?" you say.

["...Yeah, we're cool. Now hurry and rank up so I can kick your ass."]

You laugh, whether or not she was making a joke. "Will do."

>What do?
>>
>>19587016
That's the plan, beat the Hogs today, kick some other team in the teeth later. After I get to your team and explode some detcord under you I'll buy you a beer.
>>
>>19587070
Oh, yeah. Tell her to watch our match today if she has the time.
>>
>>19587070
>>19587092
["Yeah, I saw your team was scheduled today. Decided to call. Now I'm free to mock you later if you loose."]

"Funny."

["It will be, for me at least, so I'd suggest you win. Later."]
She hangs up, and you finish your preparations. Eri loads the Gordos onto the Gustav, and you do the same with your Red Horn. Everyone mounts up, and the Sidewinder team heads out.
>>
>>19587517
We're ready for the battle, let's go beat the hell out of the Hogs, show them the power of a diversified team.
>>
>>19587517

You arrive at the arid, rocky plain, and the judge lands just as you finish your lunch.

<The area within a forty mile radius is now a designated battlefield. This zone is now restricted. Danger, all unauthorized personnel must leave the battlefield. Area scanned. Battlefield set up. The Road Hog Team VS the Sidewinder Team. Battle Mode 0982. Ready...fight!>

And with that, your off. You head strait down the plain with Audrey keeping pace, while Vince and Rick start pulling ahead.

["Eri, what ya got?"] Vince asks.

["They're at the edge of the battlefield, in line formation. They haven't moved yet."]

["Waiting for us to move first, huh?"]

["Looks like it."]

>What do?
>>
>>19588147
Set up a defensive position outside of their ranges, but inside the range of the Triple Linear cannon, set it up as we did earlier, with us as the VIP, Eri and Vince close to us to dissuade any attempts on us but far enough that they can break off and go murderize some pigs and Rick off to the side to hit the flanks and back of any Hogs that get too close, also staying outside of the range of their guns.
>>
This is probably not the time nor place to ask, but how do people feel about eventually getting Gerald a Dibison as an endgame zoid? It's really good, shootingwise, which is what he excels at.

You fall into your rehearsed formation as you head into a rockier area. Vince acts as the vanguard, while Audrey keeps closer to you. Rick has broken off to circle around.

Eri uses the Gordos' radar to keep you informed.
["They've started moving toward your position. I'll update their position every 30 seconds. Rick, keep sharp."]

Looks like they wanted to make sure you were in the rougher area before they made their move.

Eh. I've seen that before in the thread but I still say the 17 105 mm cannons on the Dibison is better for direct, brute firepower. And it's not like Gerald will get much use from those grappler arms anyway. And of course there's the shitton of secondary weapons the Dibison has... Though admittedly it lacks a shield...

Anyway, as for these hog guys, let's light them up with the triple linear cannon as soon as they're in range.

Get to a good firing position, on a higher point if possible and once they are in range open fire. Try to focus fire on one of them, even the odds.

While the rocks slightly impede you vision and firing line, it's hardly an issue at this range. You aim the linear cannon upward and fire it at an arc towards the firing coordinates Eri gives you.

["I have a confirmed hit!"] Eri declares shortly. ["Target...still operational, but they're moving faster now. Looks like they're trying to put a box around you."]

["Alright, I'm moving ahead."] Vince informs you. ["You two back each other up."]

You give him an affirmative, and the Houndsoldier run ahead at full speed. You come to a slight incline, and on either side of your view screen you make out two zoids. Audrey's at your side, and Rick messages you all that he's moving into position.

You open fire, however your aim is off and accomplishes nothing. The Road Hogs move in while opening fire. One tags you with its cannon, though thankfully your armor is able to tank it. You duck and avoid further fire.

Vince hops out and attempts to use his Hound Buster cannons on an unsuspecting hog, but doesn't get the shot off quick enough, and the other zoid engages its thrusters and easily hops out of the way. Its return fire hits his shoulder, staggering him slightly. You here him curse over the com, and prepare to cover him, when Rick comes in from behind and strafes with his accelerated beam cannons. The fire is virtually harmless, but manages to get the opposing teams attention. One tries to shoot him down, but he evades, not so much with a roll, the maneuver is more like a wide corkscrew. He looses a pair of Remora's, and the large missiles streak out at their target at high speed. The Hog War is unable to evade in time and the heavy missiles erupt against its side.

<Blue, Number three. Out of the Battle!> the Judge declares, followed by a whoop from Rick.

You unleash a deadly barrage, damaging two hogs that were on your left flank. Audrey follows suit, and nails one with her cannons, severely lowering its mobility.

Rick makes another strafing run, but to no effect. Vince brackets the same Hog with his Burst cannon, evading its counter fire.

Things seem to be going your way, until you spot one Hog War that's hopped behing a rock formation. There's just enough room for him to put a shot through, and what a shot, it nails you right under the chin. While the armor somewhat holds out, the shock to the system is great.

"Mother damn it all!" you curse as the system freeze message displays on your screen. Taken out by a lucky shot.

<Red, number 2. Out of the Battle!>

"Yeah, yeah..."

["Gerald? Are you ok?"] Eri says over a direct channel.

"Yeah, the system just got shocked, I'm fine save my pride."

Audrey runs the Hog War that shot you down, and finishes it off with her Sabres. Another hits her with its cannon, but Rick hits its damaged flank with his heavier beam guns, knocking it back.

Vince charges the Hog War he'd been battling, lowering his Cross Lance. The enemy evades, but this was a feint by Vince, who change directions mid leap and clamped the Hounds fangs down into the back of the head, before somersaulting and hurling the zoid away.

<Blue, 1 and 4, out of the Battle!>

With one enemy left, it doesn't take long for the others to finish things up.

["You ok, G-man?"] Rick asks, as the Judge declares that the battle is over.

>How feel?
>>
>>19589608
I got hit by a lucky shot, system froze, we still won. I'm cool. I have more than enough good experiences in storage that this really isn't a big deal.

Guys, we should probably get our Zoid Affinity up next chance, it'll probably help with this sort of thing.

<The winner is...the Sidewinder team!> The judge declares, making it official.

Some cranes and Gustavs come in and pick up the other team. They don't seem all that talkative, they're just doing what they're paid for, after all.

It doesn't take much to get your Red Horn back online. Damage all across the team is pretty low, a nice change from the last battle. Repairs shouldn't cost more than 500 credits.

["Good job, team."] Vince announces. ["Those guys were pros, not some easy opponent. And aside from a little bad luck, we managed to beat them and keep ourselves intact. And if we go up a few more ranks, we'll start seeing some more prize money."]

["Sounds good to me."] Rick says enthusiastically.

I say we drop of the Redhorn and check the job boards. There are so many things we'd like to do but they all cost more money than we have.
>>
>>19590181
It really depends on our role in the battle. When we fought Stone Age it was no problem because we weren't really participating in the battle anyway aside from setting up the trap. Similar for the 20 bandit pileup It was mostly cannon fodder zoids and we spent most of our time underground. In this case, however, we were facing equal numbers in fairly similar class zoids in a head on battle. We even made a plan that relied on positioning and team work. Unfortunately with no map it was impossible to keep track of who was where and what actions we could take to make things easier besides choose a target and hope we roll high. So yeah, it depends on what we're up against.

>>19590238
That sounds fine.
>>
>>19590238
In need of dosh, you stow the Red Horn in the hanger and bring up job listings. It's a bit sparse sadly. Lot's of low paying jobs, 100 credits payoff. You try finding something on a higher pay grade.

Reserve Protecter. 500
Poachers have been killing endangered animals in a nature reserve. Hiring personnel to patrol the area. Pay per person.

Wildland scouting. 700
Investigate an area that has not been fully reclaimed. Client wishes to know of any water sources and pitfalls present. area is only 120 square miles, but caution should be exercised.

That's about all your options right now.
