>Location: Jormungandr, Raziel's Crypt, Warped Lands.

You're currently in kalak form, and you're out of breath.
It seems that, despite knowing how to use your new body, doesn't mean you're *good* at it. Your wings beat once more, your entire torso straining. . and you're having trouble breathing between each buffet of your wings.

You look down to the Jormungandr, and twist yourself downward, folding your wings, and you fall through. . .

Before you spread your wings once more, and screech down, your talons clicking against the deck.

Kaliel frowned. "You're bad at that." She said, and turned away.

Kaliel can't fly at all yet, can she? Seems a bit hypocritical.

She pulls out a book, covered in runes you don't see, and starts reading.

Your entire body aches- apparently kalak flight is strenuous. No wonder you haven't seen any of the coven flitting about like birds.

"What now, lady?" Ell asked. "Where should we go next?"
"Well." Ezekiel said, dryly. "We could tell the orcish king and queen that Azariel is dead. Should cheer the queen up a bit."
"Or check out the Wall." Raziel said, looking through the books she'd brought from her crypt. "If the demons are gone, who knows what the hobgoblins will do?"
"It's your choice, lady." Ell says. "I don't have any preference."
>>
>>19637324
Go check up on the hobgoblins.
>>
>>19637324
The hobgoblins seems the more urgent thing. Shit is going to change on that front but it seems like Azariel's going to stay dead. We even just contact them from here instead of flying all the way north.
>>
>>19637324
To the hobgoblins.
>>
to wall men
>>
"To the Wall." You say. "It's more urgent."
He nods, and reattunes the compass, and the Jormungandr takes off.

You take a few steps, pacing across the deck, but your balance is shot. You're. . clumsy beyond all reason, and the more mistakes you make, the more flustered you get. .

Raziel notices how much trouble you're having. "Want me to make sure you get below deck?"
You nod, and the two of you go down to your cabin. Once there, you close your mind, and will yourself to become yourself. Your wings go numb, and then your entire body. . 'twists', you suppose is the only way to put the sensation into words.

... But while you're here ...
"I'm going to try something." You say, and close your eyes again. You will yourself to become. . something you only have an image of in your head- a rainbow colored serpent, great wings coming from it's back. . .

"Become a wyvern?" Raziel asked, looking down at you. You're. . blind, but you can still 'feel' where people are, by the heat radiating off of their bodies. You flap your wings, trying to lift into the sky, but the wings are too small for your long, snakelike body.
>>
are we a little wyvern or a large one
>>
>>19637406
Are we at least a fluffy wyvern?
>>
You estimate that you're only two or three feet from head to tail. . You're quite small. . but your wings are INCREDIBLY FLUFFY.

"You're teensy." Raziel said, looking down at you- or so you assume, only seeing a raziel-shaped blob of heat. "Should I go ask Kaliel to come down here? She does have a wyvern as one of her forms, so she knows more about it."
>>

>>
"Thanks, but. . no." You say, in a warbling, strange voice- it doesn't come out as you intend. . Your body must not be built for speaking words. You coil around one of your bedposts, and you realize that you're quite. . quite. . tired. . .

"Be careful." She says. "Wyverns are cold-blooded, so you don't want to stick inside one of their forms too long. They like falling asleep, if what Uriel said was true."
>>
>>19637447
Dunno. Is there a chance of her helping us without being severely unpleasant?
>>
>>19637496
Let's just transform back into our normal form, and get some sleep.
>>
You nod to Raziel, and slither down back to a clear spot in the cabin. Then you close your non-working eyes, and focus on becoming you again.

Suddenly, you're freezing, and completely nude. Raziel turns around, preserving your modesty, and you quickly get dressed. It's strange, the moment you became you again, every bit of exhaustion and slumber was gone, as if it had come in with the form. You'd need to be careful shapeshifting from here on, you think.

"There, dressed." You say, and you hear someone walking through the halls. You crack open the door, and Kaliel walks past, a small, sleeping bird held in both hands, as she enters her cabin.
>>
>>19637502
yeah we did alot to day sleep sounds good
>>
>>19637530
Ooooh, let's have Raziel and us follow her quietly and see what shee's doing.
>>
>>19637530
new bird?
>>
You make a motion to Raziel, and she nods, slipping off her boots- the two of you creep up toward Kaliel's room, and Raziel opens the door a crack, the two of you peeking in.

Her cabin is filled with cages. Small animals, squirrels, rabbits, birds. . They're all in the cages, slumbering.

Kaliel whispers a spell on the bird, and then puts it into an empty cage, patting it's head.

>>19637585

>>
>>19637585
>>19637585

>>
>>19637628
How do you know that wasn't a spell that gives little sleeping birds horrible tortuous nightmares and she's got the cages all wired up to some giant terror-fuelled death ray?
>>
>>19637585
Is it normal for Kalak of that age to be so... driven? They'd be younger than we are, if they were humans.

Ishelda painfully noticed that when she didn't become fluffy.
>>
"What kind of spell was that?" You ask, whispering to Raziel. Now that you know that kalak can't hear as well as humans, you feel a bit safe about whispering while sneaking like this.
"It was an enchantment spell." She said. "Like. . making them sleep, controlling minds, causing illusions. . I don't know much about them."
"Is it normal for your young to be so. . driven?" You ask.
"Not at all. Most of us were more like Dariel."

You knock, and Kaliel turns around, opening the door.
"What, you're here for that letter?" She asks, and tosses a small bit of parchment at you- It has your name on it, but no kind of seal, and to be honest, the penmanship isn't the best. .
"Found this in here when I moved in." She said.

You fold it open, and read.

"Dear Ishelda,

I apologize, but I really don't know the standard procedures or compliments when you write a letter to a queen, but we're friends, and I know you'd probably be insulted by me trying, so I don't think that matters.
Right now (as I write this letter, I mean) we're sailing on the prism, and we should be to Cerulean soon- I'm sure you remember the time. I just want to say that I'm sorry about the way Fellwind had been treating you. I'm gonna leave this in my cabin so you'll find it, perhaps as a happy surprise.
Once we get to Cerulean, our plan is to make our way over to Sirius. . and I have a plan that I'm going to force Fellwind to come along with- It's an idea you gave me. So anytime you're free, come down to Sirius City and look for me.

Your friend,
Lewin Brewson."
>>
>>19637685
D'aaaaw.

"Thank you. But I actually wanted to ask you about what you're doing here. Are you studying these animals for your shapeshifting research?"
>>
"Thank you." You say, folding up the letter- you want to keep it, suddenly. "But I actually wanted to ask you about what you're doing here. Are you studying these animals for your shapeshifting research?" You ask, and she nods.
"Yeah, I am." She said, coming out into the hall with you and closing the door. She brushed her fluff out of her eyes, then started scratching at her head. "Right now they're all asleep, and I magicked them in a way that I won't need to feed them as much."
>>
>>19637758
"Huh, that's smart."

>then started scratching at her head
What does that mean in kalak body language? The same as for humans?
>>
>>19637685
Lewin started that Adventurers Guild, didn't he?
>>
"Huh, that's smart." You say.
"Of course it is." She responds, and starts scratching more. You're about to wonder about what that means to kalak body language. . but then some of the fluff comes off. You can see rigit pin feathers underneath- a shimmering, striped brown-and-red, from what little you can see.
"Oh." she says. "I'm moulting."
Raziel grinned. "Really?!"
"Seems so." Kaliel said.
>>
>>19637813
>rigit
>rigid, damnit
>>
>>19637813
That means you'll be able to fly soon, right?
How long does molting usually take?
Are you going to be making a mess all over my nice clean airship?
>>
>>19637813
Is that something to be celebrated? We could definitely use some light-hearted fun around here at the moment.

>but then some of the fluff comes off
Collect that stuff as stealthily as possible. There are so many ways it could be used.
>>
"That means you'll be able to fly soon, right?"
"Yeah." She responds.
"How long does molting usually take?"
"Sometimes a few days, sometimes a few weeks." Raziel said.

You bend over, and scoop up some of the fluff. "Are you going to be making a mess all over my nice clean airship?"
"Yes, yes I will." She said. "You can clean it up, right?" She asked, then went back into her room and shut the door behind her.

Raziel's grin fell. "Normally it's something to be celebrated. . but Kaliel's broken or something."
>>
>>19637870
"Would you mind telling me how she came to be like this?"
Perferably, somewhere that's not directly in front of her door.
>>
>>19637870
>You can clean it up, right?"
Unless she asks us if we're willing to help, she can clean up her own mess.
>>
You turn around, and start walking through the halls. "Would you mind telling me how she came to be like this?" You ask.
"Well, she did spend a lot of time near Uriel and Sardriel, and those two aren't the. . nicest." She said, frowning. "But I don't think they hurt her or anything. . but they did probably rub off on her."
>>
>>19637920
"Do you have an idea how we could change that? It didn't work out too well for Uriel."
>>
"Do you have an idea how we could change that?" You ask, and she shakes her head.
"Not really." She responds. "But she isn't too used to a lot of people, so I'm thinking we should give her some space until she gets comfortable. Dariel isn't used to people either, but he's already comfortable around Ell and Kristoph." She said.
>>
>>19637908
>Mad scientist
>cleaning up their own mess
Good one!
>>
>>19637959
Well, let's prepare something to celebrate Kaliel's moulting anyway. At least a cake, or something. Her siblings will probably know what she likes best.

>>19637971
Demi-god trumps mad scientist.
>>
You suddenly stop.
"Let's make. . .a cake." you say.
"What? What's a cake?" Raziel asks.
"Marigold." You say, coming above deck- She's watching Kristoph teach Dariel how to use a sword. . . "Marigold." You say again, and startled, she looks over to you.
"We're making a cake."
Her eyes light up- She'd always been into cooking- and the three of you go down to the cargo hold. You're glad, once again, that you thought to get all the supplies you thought you would ever need. Raziel's confused the entire time, but she seems to understand that it's some kind of sweet.
"How will we be able to bake it?" Marigold asked, measuring things out. "I don't see an oven here. . . "
>>
>>19638051
Magic.
>>
>>19638051
We can bake it with soulfire. It's hot and easy to finely control. And it lets us make some cheesy line about making the cake with our heart or something.

>Not particularly- it's not your skill going into it, it's marigold's.

"Magic!" You say, and the serpent bursts out of your arm, writhing through the air. It's paler than normal, probably because you're rather cheerful. It wraps around the pan, heating it up.
"Of course." Marigold says, stirring up ingredients. You see that she's making frosting- something that the humans in this world didn't seem to use, so you suppose that this will be an Arcturian one.
"It's been a long time since I last heard you answer a question with that." Raziel says. "How did you do that? Magic. How did you do this? Magic." She says, chuckling to herself. She eyes the cask of swampbrew. . but then you see that she forces herself to look away. She doesn't meet your eyes.

The three of you make some small talk and giggle as you keep the soulflame steady.
"Hey, Marigold, how is that artifact working?" Raziel asked.
Marigold's smile fell. "Well. . it hasn't talked to me except for once or twice, but . . my power is really hard to control, now. It just isn't as. . strong as it used to be. I have to focus a lot."

"Well, if it's the same amount of power... I just need some more control, right? I'll practice!" She said, cheering up.
"Hey, ladies." Kristoph says, walking in with a swagger. "What's that smell?" He asked, eying you three and the cake.
"It's not done ye~t." Marigold said, in a singsong voice. "Come back later."
Kristoph pouted. "Well, at least I'm going to have a drink." He said, eying the swampbrew cask. He took a flask, filled it, and took a sip.

He ended up coughing and spluttering.
"What. . what is this?"
Raziel started giggling at him- the first time she'd paid him any real attention.

The magic is probably the way it is because of the Ankh. Look at it from the bright side. Since it is consuming your life magic it wont need to consume other people! The chaotic thing probably comes from it being a dragon. As far as i have seen, dragons are highly "impulsive" creatures.
>>
"Technically, it's a type of tea." You say, over Raziel's giggles.
"Well, if I ever need to melt something and I need an acid," Kristoph grumbles. "I'll make sure to ask you for some tea."

"They don't." she said. "But then again, we can eat almost anything. . " She smiled, and went toward Kaliel's cabin.
"Go get everyone else." Marigold says. You go abovedeck, and tell everyone. . There Will Be Cake.

Even Ezekiel and Dariel, who don't seem to know what cake is, can tell from your voice that there will be something delicious, and you all go below deck for a party.
When you get back down there, Marigold's already cut it into pieces, and Kaliel is there, half-molted, eating as well.
The party gets a slow start, but soon enough, it starts to feel like a real celebration.

"She... seems to lack empathy? I don't know." You say. "Maybe if she had some kind of device that she could see inside the animals without needing to take them apart?"
"Can you try to make one?" She asks, and you nod. You take a small bit of glass, close your eyes, and focus. .

The first attempt fails, and the world swims, your muscles aching.

The second attempt does too, and you start to have trouble breathing.

The third attempt, however. . . The third attempt is perfect. You hold in your hand a glass crystal, and you hold it up against Raziel . . and you see her heart beating, through the flesh of her torso.
Raziel takes a look at it (or through it, technically speaking). "Should- should I give this to her?" She asks.
>>
>>19638780
Yes, and tell her that while I do not condemn her research, I would appreciate it if she went about it in a more humane fashion.
>>
Well this is interesting. If she's dissecting them to know more about their organs, musculature and skeletal structures, it's not a problem. The fact that she's put them under a sort of magical anesthesia supports this.

Sociopaths generally harm small animals not for any academic purpose, but because they enjoy the sensation of dominating another creature. To that end, they try to inflict as much pain as possible, frequently torturing the creatures to death.
>>

"May I have some?" You ask the lizardmen, and Velrid pours out a small glass for you. You sip it- it's just as horrible as you remember, along with the strange, minty spices, but you're able to keep it down.

Kristoph sets his flask to the side, and his head bangs down on the table.
"I've been upstaged by a teenage girl." He said, miserably. "Where has my life gone?"

"Come here, let me wipe that off." Marigold says, and Grayson harrumphs, as she starts wiping at his muzzle with a napkin.

In the corner of the room, Raziel is standing there, just watching what's going on.
You're suddenly a bit anxious, and you're not sure why.

And then Ezekiel stands from the table. "One second, you two." He tells the two kalak hatchlings, and he. . shuffles his feet, and approaches Raziel.
"Can we talk?" He asks her, in a low voice. "In private?"

Raziel nods, and the two of them leave the room- nobody seems to notice, as the two kalak are watching Kell do his best rendition of a dance- it mostly involves leaping and hopping around randomly.

You meet Marigold's eyes, and she grins, and finishes wiping off Grayson's muzzle.

Marigold makes her way over to you. "You want to go listen in, or should we give them some privacy?"

"This is none of our business." You say. "I'll probably hear about it from one of them later."

"Aw, fine." She says, and pouts. "But you know, this reminds me of your old parties. What were you going to do this fall for your birthday? Anything planned?"

>>
"Are the years here the same length as home?" You ask, and she nods.
"The seasons are. . backwards, but other than that, yeah. Spring at home is fall here, and winter at home is summer here." She said, and shrugged.
"I suppose you want to make an occasion of it?" You ask. "We'll have to fly back to Ursae I guess."
"Well, it is almost half a year from now, so we won't have to worry about it until then." She says, with a smile.
You hear Kell try a backflip, and crash into Kristoph's, Velrid's, and Nahzit's mugs, sending them flying. The troll graw's unhappily, but Dariel starts clapping. You take the satchel of Galadriel's Light, and grab the troll. He graaws again, as you put the seeds into his back, focusing. . .
"Let me help." Marigold said, and suddenly, you're suffused with chaotic, wild life magic, rampaging throughout the room. She shakes, and trembles, and you see white light streaming from her back, almost like wings.
The troll twitches, and then full-grown Galadriel's Light bursts from his back, as the troll swells in size.

"It worked!" Marigold said, with a grin. "Let's go tell Raziel."
She opens the door to the hall, but then backs up and all but closes it again.
". . I forgot." She whispered. "They're just out there."
You and her peek out, and you see Raziel and Ezekiel, perfectly silent. Slowly, and calmly, Raziel raises a hand, and runs a fingernail along Ezekiel's beak, scraping it across from the base to the tip. ". . Zeke. . " she says.
Ezekiel just stands there. . and then turns and bolts toward the stairs to the deck of the airship.
Raziel. . crumples, it looks like, on the spot.

>>
Marigold looks to you, and she seems fairly lost. .
But you aren't.
You go back to the table, and grab two extra slices of cake- Marigold had made quite a bit, come to think of it- and you go back out there. Raziel's expression is almost unreadable as she sits there, leaning against the wall, looking aimlessly at the floor. You set the plate down next to her, and put a hand on her shoulder. She doesn't respond, so you sit down next to her, and start eating some cake. She picks up her own plate, and takes a few bites.

"This is good." She said, after a long while.

>>
>>19639503
"Marigold is a very good cook."

We're waiting for her to bring up the topic at hand.
>>
"Let's fuck." You say, feeling dangerously bold.
"Oka- wait, what?" She asked.
That's when the loud, angry noises came from the room where the party was happening. You rush in, to find Kell. . dangerously large, thorns sticking out of his arms. He roars, and throws a table at Grayson. The bear is blown back. .

You bring your magic to life, firing soulflame at the troll. . But the troll pulls Ell into the way. The soulfire slams into Ell, and he falls to his knees, coughing up blood.

You fire more magic. .but the Galadriel's Light on the troll's back tears your magic away, as the troll continues swelling, vines crawling across the floor and walls of the room. One of the thorns stab into Marigold, and her eyes roll into the back of her head, her veins turning black.

Before you see it. . a thorn jabs into your body, and everything. . burns. It burns, it burns, as the venom rushes through your body. Your back arches, and you scream.
And then everything goes gray, and time seems to stop.
"I have bought you some time." Bubbles' voice says, from Ell's corpse. Everything is frozen, and the only thing you can hear is Bubble's voice, and your own ragged breathing.

And then someone steps out of a portal. It's. . you. Older. Wiser. . And more cold.
She bends over, and looks you in the eyes. Her eyes are. . completely empty.

"Forget." She says, and slams a spell into The Mind. You reach out, feebly, with your magic. . But an elemental made out of the darkest, darkest black steps in the way. Your magic just . .vanishes.
"You are now property of the void queen. Obey only my orders." The older 'you' says to The Mind. "Now. . Send us Back."

>Bad End - Troll Rampage.
>>
>And now to return to our regular programming.

"Mar made it." You say.
"Is that a good explanation?" She asked.
"Last time I had a birthday, she pestered the cooks until they let her help." You say. "She's better than most of they were."
"I see." She responds.

The two of you continue speaking inanely about cooking, and cakes, and old parties you'd been to. Raziel keeps to short, terse sentences, almost monosyllabilic, and that's how the party comes to a close.

The sun goes entirely down as you talk, and it's around the time you would normally sleep. You had planned to call Azariel here, but you could always do that the next night. .

She takes a deep, ragged breath. "Thank you." She says. "For hanging out with me today."

You nod, and then she rolls over in her bed. You take the small enchanted crystal, and go see to Kaliel.

You find her in her cabin, scalpel in hand, slowly peeling back the flesh on the squirrel. She watches the tendons twitch, as the squirrel's heart beats steadily, and she jots a few notes down on an open book. Your stomach turns.

She turns back, and you see that her eyes are a bright, glowing amber, now that the fuzz around her face is gone. "Yes?" She asked, setting down the bloodied tools.

Raziel, in times like this there is one being who I suggest for advice, Grayson. His harrumphs contain great wisdom and when you talk with him about your problems you just seem to find what you're looking for.

Since you're talking about Kristoph, who is immune to magic, you make the barrier block sound specifically.

>>
>>19641723
Kalak, despite being mostly avian, reproduce similarly to elves, orcs, hobgobs, and humans. The only difference is that a female kalak, at a certain stage of pregnancy (A year and after conception) will lay an egg, and then several months later, the egg will hatch
>>
>>19641723
cold <-> warm blood pregnancy is no-go
egg <-> mammal pregnancy is no go
this leaves only viable way to reboot Kalak race to Dragons.
