Despite a time warp, the adventure continues!

You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and Captain of the Sword class frigate 'Sword of the Omnissiah'. Having survived your confusing encounter with warp madness and arrived at your secret planetary system, which you've yet to name, you came upon a startling event; the system had moved. Though at first worried that you'd exited the warp, your astropaths and navigators quickly discredited the theory. Unwilling to sit completely idle while Teris and her ilk struggled to explain the system's movement, you'd decided to have one of the cogitators purchased in Tortuga installed within your cranium.

Your repair teams slave away at the damaged sections of your frigate, battling against twisted nightmares of metal and conduit to reach vital life support and power junctions. Hundreds of their mutilated fellows are located during the work, driving a grim torpedo into your crew's faltering morale. Athe struggles to keep your crew in line as further events begin to plague your command; an astropath driven mad by some message received, rumors of failing life support, and other dark whispers attempting to undermine your command. Julin has begun regularly leading the armsmen on various exercises upon 'Zephyr Spirit' and the planet's moons. While even Kelly notices that your armsmen gain little from such things, it does keep them busy and allows them to be stationed upon the transport. Kelly's inventory of your payments from refugees eventually finds its way to you, along with an attached report of damages to 'Zephyr Spirit'.

Payments for passage from Tortuga:
-Ten wealth worth of various decorative items and goods
-a cargo's worth of assorted industrial-use specialty materials (+to Elesh's bionics crafting)
-Six local-production voidfighter prototypes, currently stored in parts. [Voidcats, a local-production Lightning knockoff.]
-parts/engines for Heavy Lift Shuttles (possible to upgrade your void shuttle to a HLS with them)
-pair of Mining Lighter Kits (1 cargo of metal to build each) [Arvus Lighter variant]
-minor cargo of genuine luxury chocolates from Labado
-minor cargo of stasis-preserved red fruits from Labado [Strawberries]
-20 cargoes of various processed foods and rations

Status of Vagabond class transport 'Zephyr Spirit':
-Minor hull breaches, estimated 2 day's of repairs at a space dock
-!CRITICAL DAMAGE! In-gravity warp transition has fractured the ship's spine. Warp travel and battle are to be highly discouraged.
-Port Cargo Hold damaged in battle. Decompression due to macro battery strike. Cargo of Salvage Systems was damaged beyond initial levels.
-Biological cargo of 20,000 slaves. Artisan-Captain Exors requests orders before life support systems are strained.

Status of 'Sword of the Omnissiah':
-Serious damage to hull. estimated 3+ weeks of repairs at a space dock
-!WARNING! Life Support strained by damage and presence of refugees and replacement crew for 'Heavenly Forge'.
-There is currently no additional room for cargo due to battle damage, only minor amounts of cargo were lost.

"Has there been any word from 'Heavenly Forge'? or Serentus? Four days is quite a time to receive no response."

The younger woman hesitates to respond, posturing meekly as her voice becomes quiet. "I'm afraid that I don't understand what Teris believes has taken place, Captain. Something about warp storms and reso-something and gravima-whatsit particles and some kind of deflector dish? Honestly, I think she was just making shit up at one point."

That's a surprisingly awesome reason to miss a week. Looting is always rogue trader related.

Anyway, do we have any idea where we ended up? I mean, are we sure the system we were heading to has moved, and not that we came out of the warp somewhere other than where we intended?
>>
>>19727897
you are quite certain that you ended up in your hidden system.

It is quite hard to believe that another system has the same three spheres of debris and dust orbiting it and only a single planet.

Word has it that -this- system shouldn't even have such strange things.

"What about the astropath that went mad? How is he doing?"

"Teris has taken charge of the astropaths as well as her own navigators, Captain. She might have some answers on that, though I'm fairly sure the astropath was granted mercy soon after the incident. Do you have any further questions, Captain?"

>consult Teris?
>do something else?
>other?
>>
>>19728165
Let's consult with Teris.

Considering our ship is crippled and we lack the facilities in this system to adequately repair it, it looks like we'll be staying here a while. We need to find out all we can about what's going on.
>>
"I'll visit Teris. Dismissed, Kelly."

Moving thru the ship's corridors with purpose, you make your way around crew as they respectfully make way at your approach. Until you reach a small gaggle of crew in voidsuits, that is. Dess is the first to spring from the group, the remainder spreading to block your progress forward. "Captain, I've heard a rumor that we've come into possession of additional craft." Your lead pilot's eyes sparkle as her fellows all slowly lean in toward you, searching for some sign of facial tell. "Fighters." The woman's eyes turn feral as the final word escapes her, or perhaps lecherous. They say pilots are odd creatures that form inexplicable, intimate bonds with the craft they fly. Quite readily, you mentally picture Dess's hands exploring every last minute detail of a craft's controls...

"Captain?" Your pilots have lost their lecherous looks, replaced by concern. "Ground control to Captain Elesh? Do you read?" Dess' hand darts before your face, causing you to exit your momentary mental image.

Neither of the planet's two moons have atmosphere. The planet does, though the slaves would be free-roaming...
>>
since it only seems to be 1 anon, Dess can be put off until later
>>
>>19728358
Do we have a use for them aboard our ship? I mean, it seems like they're going to end up suffocating if we leave them in the cargo hold on account of the life support failure, so it wouldn't be much loss to let them loose on the planet.

Besides, they could be a sort of early warning system of anything sinister lurking on the surface. If they get killed, we'll know something is afoot.
>>
>>19728380
Alas, I fear most of the regulars didn't show up.
>>
>>19728396
>guess you get to screw up all of their long-term plans, then!

"I'll have to solve the lighter bay problems first, Dess. You'll get your hands on the fighters as soon as possible."

The pilots seem to have a mixture of emotions at your words, one going so far as to sniffle and wipe his eyes at the thought of waiting on the fighters, though Dess clearly understands your plight. "We'll pitch in with what we can to free up enginseers to build the fighters." Several pilots quietly groan, but a quick glance by Dess silences them.

A gaggle of robed navigators and astropaths have arranged themselves in a sitting circle to the side of the Navigator's Dais, which hosts a weary Teris upon the venerable throne. Quiet debate arcs about the circle of mutants like bolts of energy as each member adds or detracts upon the previous speaker. Despite your best attempts, you are unable to acertain the original topic as you listen to the debate arc across several tangents at once. Debate ceases as Teris simply raises her gnarled hand and looks to you. "I take it you've come for an explanation, Captain?"

>explain it, Clarissa!
>tell me about the one that went mad!
>other?
>>
>>19728467
Well, if she has an explanation to offer, I'm all ears. No need to be rude about it.

Also, perhaps we should continue in another hour or two.

Teris spends the next two hours explaining a convoluted series of phenomena that likely make sense in the mind of a navigator. Unfortunately, such navi-babble makes little sense to yourself, and you quickly find yourself quite lost.

"Gothic, Teris. Do you speak it?" you finally grumble.

Your head navigator politely nods, though you're fairly certain that her eyes rolled as she did so. "Quite simply, Captain... the warp storms that once formed the boarders of the Corgus Sector faded, and in their death throes tore at the spatial fabric of the matterium. The Imperial worlds have their astropaths sending out messages out like ripples upon a pond to verify eachother's locations. Assuming that several worlds have maintained their positions, this system has drifted quite a distance during our return. I estimate that we are, at best, seven days travel from Serentus. At worst, nearly two months."

Surprisingly enough, I still had leftovers from yesterday. Life is good.
>>
'Voidcat' Void Fighter

A local, sub-par copy of the Imperial Lightning fighter, Voidcats are generally disdained as combat craft. Though the craft are rugged and reliable from a maintenance standpoint, the craft's armor is concentrated around the pilot to the detriment of both life support and engines. Despite this oversight, Voidcats are considered to be quite capable as training craft; many carry variable-power las-weapons, allowing pilots to practice live fire during training. Voidcats are not capable of atmospheric entry or combat due to their specialized engines, though their wings fold upward to conserve valuable space upon voidships.
>>
Arvus Mining Lighter

A modification of the basic Arvus Lighter, this craft was designed to scout ahead of mining vessels to scout for and take samples from ore deposits. Though this craft sports more powerful engines, it is incapable of atmospheric reentry due to the mining modifications to the hull. Arvus Mining Lighters may be converted to Arvus Lighters with minimal effort.
>>
>>19728638
Well Wilson makes me think of Wilson from Home Improvement, I don't get the Taylor reference though.

But yeah, that sounds bad, what Teris said. Can we fix up our life support enough that well be able to make it there without having to toss people into the void? Also, voting we dump some off the slaves on that moon/planet with atmosphere. I mean, if they're dead we can't use them, and if they run off we can't either. It'll be better for our conscience if we're not the ones to consign them to death. And some of them may yet survive or stay put down there to be picked up later.
>>
>>19728823
Sounds reasonable to me.
>>
"We believe that Advi has received our message to report in, though her astropath could also be wounded or worse. If our estimates are correct, we've not received a response due to delays from the calming warp." Teris smiles, though she rests her cheek upon a palm as she continues. "If we do not receive word from her within several hours, we'll attempt to contact her once again. I'd not worry about the delays, Captain."

"And the astropath that went mad?"

"Warp madness, we believe. He was granted the mercy of death." Even your cogitators feel the mood of those surrounding you sour at Teris' words.

Leaving Teris and her ilk to their strange debate, you head for your command throne and interface with the ship. Your flank burns for a moment as the ship's sensors bleed over to your flesh brain's pain centers, but the sensation fades quickly as your cogitators quickly squelch the signals. With a thought, your thoughts fire across the void upon vox frequencies directed toward 'Zephyr Spirit'. "This is Artisan-Captain Exors. How may I serve, Captain Phryx?"

"Confirm your status, if you would, Artisan."

"The 'Spirit' is at the end of her useful life, Captain. She can not reliably take to the warp with a broken spine, though she is still a capable in-system hauler. My pressing concern is in regards to the current cargo of slaves. The ship can only sustain such numbers for perhaps an additional two weeks. Though I could turn half into servitors to extend that duration."

"We could also land slaves upon the planet and let them wait upon the surface, if need be."

"Wasteful, Magos. It would be more efficient to attempt mining any ice we can locate in the system to supplement our life support. Slaves have too many possible uses to throw them away like cattle" chides the Adept-Captain.

>orders?
>>
>>19729117
>Though I could turn half into servitors to extend that duration
"Tell me more about this. If converted half into servitors, do you predict they would be able to harvest sufficient amounts of ice to provide for the life support needs of the others?"
>>
>>19729117
Wouldn't mass conversion of the slaves into servitors have a deleterious effect on the already strained morale of the crew?
>>
>>19729117
Offer the slaves a chance at a lottery. One out of every [not sure how many exactly, maybe 10-20%?] will be set free on the planet. Any who enter and are not chosen will be turned into servitors.

That way we can get our servitors without having to make a huge blow to morale; as long as they have a choice in whether to enter or not, I'm guessing a good number will.
>>
>>19729163

"The 'Spirit' has the facilities and techpriests to produce light industrial and light combat servitors. I believe that we'd be able to mine more than enough ice to augment the needs of our crew and cargo without converting any cargo, Captain. We would simply require the use of two void shuttles or perhaps four lighters. I'm afraid we have none aboard, though there is space enough for five lighters in our bay."

>void shuttles and HLS both take up space equal to a pair of lighters (unless otherwise noted for a craft variant)

>>19729238

devious... I like it.

Privateer Quest will resume in ~20 minutes
>>
>>19729288
Well the idea is to avoid deviousness and morale loss; the part about being euthanized (preferably painlessly and peacefully) if they don't get chosen should be made clear.
>>
>>19729311
>implying getting turned into a servitor isn't the ultimate reward for a fleshy human slave
They should relish the chance to become one with the Omnissiah.
>>
>>19729321

>>
>>19729311
>>19729321
>>19729338

So essentially... the plan is "get down on that planet or die"? (from their point-of-view, that is)

Even a techpriest knows that being turned into a servitor is -not- an honor, but usually a punishment or sign of "fuck you, you're no longer useful being fleshy"
>>
Sorry for being late.
Now, the idea about the servitor-freedom lottery is rather ingenious. However, loosing the slaves would be an unfortunate loss... how about entering gets you a better standing in the facility? Such as better rooms, and better quality consumables?
But, send a team of arms men down to the planet. If we can get a ground base, that could provide our mining operations food supply... and be an outpost for ADVENTURE!
>>
>>19729403
No, the lottery is specifically -not- mandatory. It's a chance for some people that want to take a risk to get off the place. The face that they could die if the life support becomes strained should spur them on as well. And if enough people enter (whether they win or lose, either way they no longer strain life support) then the rest will survive with the damaged life support systems. I mean, I guess we could alternatively have the slaves go down to harvest ice for life support, with those who try to run/escape getting punished by servitorism. But again, the idea is to avoid a hit to morale.
>>
Ok, so...

its possible to work all of these plans together.

>Lottery for slaves
>void shuttle and HL shuttle search for and gather ice (rebase at 'Zephyr Spirit')
>Arvus Lighter delivers armsmen (specify number) to explore planet's surface and establish small base (rebase on planet)
>lighter bay is then free! 5 Space available, choose craft to construct: 6 voidcats [2 space per 3 craft], 2 Arvus Miners [1 space per craft][May be built as basic Arvus Lighters]

please confirm or veto the first three and vote toward what craft you'd like to build (if you don't veto the 2nd and 3rd, meaning less space)
>>
On a completely unrelated note, have we finished fusing our robes with the cloaths we got from the sisters?
>>
>>19729485

>>
>>19729499
I believe so. We've been /fa/ as fuck for a while now.
>>
I vote to hold off on the lottery till we have a ground base. Go ahead with two and three, and concerning the new ships, make three voidcats, one mining shuttle which can then get to work and then the other voidcats and the final mining shuttle. Once the first squad of voidcats are ready, they should begin patrols of the area and scout potential resources and locations for hidden defence satalites (in mid to large sized asteroids/meteors)
>>
"I'll send my void shuttle and heavy lift shuttle, Artisan Exors. They will be yours to command for the time being, while I turn my bay over to the construction of additional craft. We may have to shuffle the craft between bays later, though. I've the engines and additional parts to upgrade the void shuttle to a heavy lift."

"Understood, Magos. May the Omnissiah bless your true flesh. Exons, out."

Your voice soon echos within the ship as you begin outlining your plans for the shuttle transfer and exploration of the planet. "Flight leader Dess and Master-at-Arms Julin, report to your battle stations. Orders will be waiting upon your stations. Chief Enginseer, gather a detail for small-craft assembly. Orders will be submitted shortly."

With your assistance, Dess and five select pilots sortie into the black inside voidcats within twelve hours as construction begins upon an Arvus Miner. The tech adept in charge of the assembly detail informs you that the craft will take a further twelve to sixteen hours to construct and shake-down.

'Zephyr Spirit' is visible in the distance of the void from your lighter bay as your ships linger in loose formation between the system's planet and moons with the hulk of a light cruiser of old.

>voidcats are unable to scout for mineral deposits, but can do basic mapping/detection. Send them to explore the second debris sphere?

"Captain Elesh to the bridge! Advi has reported in." rumbles the ship's internal vox speakers.

Within minutes you arrive upon your bridge and seize a dataslate from a nervous crewman.

Report of Adept-Captain Advi:
'Heavenly Forge' awaits your orders in Serentus.
Serentus crew returned to home port, ship crewable by techpriests and Teris' navigators.
Boarded during battle of Saregin's Path by renegade boarding torpedos.
Assisted Navy, repelled boarders.
Victory achieved, augers damaged and replaced by Captain Beriaun's support ship.
Cargo delivered, Mission Complete.
Ready and Able to rendevous

Teris soon joins you, apparently having read the report herself. "Captain, I can guide 'Heavenly Forge' to our current position via astropath using my House's navigation code language. With the turbulence of the settling warp storms, none will be able to both crack the code and backtrace it."

'Heavenly Forge' is a mining vessel, though she carries the goods needed to begin construction of a space station. (speaking of which, you'll have a talk with the guy planning that in a bit.)

You aren't sure exactly how long the journey here will take, but your efforts are extending the duration of functional life support.

Considering the fickle nature of the warp it could theoretically arrive yesterday.

>>19730335
Hmmm.... Well necessity might tip our hands here, making us construct a station with those goods for repairing the Sword and the Zephyr.
>>
Your shuttles initially have little fortune locating any sizable ice deposits upon the nearby moons or planetary debris, though their efforts are not entirely fruitless. Dess and her squadron have much better luck as they dance within the nearby debris field, mapping the various clusters of debris that may eventually form planetoids. As their third sortie draws to a close, your flight leader catches sight of something drifting in the void! Voidcats have located the remains of a space station in the second debris field! Dess calls dibs on any leather jackets, goggles, and scarves upon the ruin.

Unfortunately, the augers of both your ships seem to have been knocked out of their precise equilibrium during your escape from Tortuga. The better part of your crew's time is spent recalibrating the critical instruments.

How long has it been since we last snuggled a servo-skull?
>>
>>19730706
DERP

damn it, i forgot...

During your warp journey, Elesh built 2 servo skulls out of boredom and warp madness. Both lack any sort of function besides floating and being servo skulls!
>>
>>19730671
Well, we best salvage that life support system... also, we could melt down the station to help supply the required materiel components for our things..
>>
>>19730671
Fuckyeah, medium spess steshun! It will be the core of our new Tortuga!
>>
>>19730720
>Both lack any sort of function besides floating and being servo skulls!
That's function enough. Grab one and give it a kiss!

Then do serious space captain stuff like >>19730728 suggests.
>>
>>19730720
Those skulls will need a purpose... one shall be a gun-skull, the other... a to-do list skull???
>>
>>19730728
"The majority of the station is useless rock more than any salvageable material" reads your expedition leader's report.

Would you guys like to argue over space station options tonight or save it for Thursday and hope a few more regulars show up to vote?
>>
>>19730759
> a to-do list skull
We definitely need one of those. We forget to do so much stuff.

Like put a laspistol inside our prosthetic arm, or find a use for Bob the Eldar.
>>
>>19730774
I GUESS it'd be better to wait, but I also don't want the thread to end so soon. Can we still talk about other shit and do stuff even if we put off space station things for now?
>>
We need to add to our to-do-list;
Making a custom potential coil, possibly using those harlequin crystals,
Making a custom cyber mantle, with enough strength, toughness and size for many, many mechandrites...
Oh.. and work on 'interchangeable mechandrites'.. cause sometimes, you need guns over fine-manipulation, or industrial... or just to go around without... to look more like an approachable captain...
>>
>>19730787
>to-do list skull
well, that one is too good to let people vote on. done!

>use for Bob
Bob is, shockingly enough, leading your ground expedition, as the only crew member with any planetary survival knowledge!
>>
>>19730815
>interchangeable mechadendrites

if you want to spend weeks recalibrating your cogitators and mind each time you swap them, sure.
>>
>>19730802
Might as well hash our some ideas for now to save some time next time PQ is on. Is there anything else we could handle now?
>>
>>19730802
Options:
>Direct Planetary Ops
>talk to officer?
>>
>>19730903
>Direct Planetary Ops
Indeed. We should see what's going on planet side.
>>
>>19730945
Yeah, why not. Let's see if we can find anything interesting there.
>>
Not content to sit idle while awaiting Advi's arrival, you begin planning to convert one of your new servo skulls into a to-do list skull while directing Bob and her planetary exploration mission.

So far, the expedition has landed a hundred armsmen and set up a camp along the width of a narrow lake.
Surrounding features:
Rolling Hills [North, Unexplored]
Lake and Rivers [West, Unexplored]
Flatlands [South, Unexplored]
Flatlands [East, Unexplored]

Initial assessment of the planet notes little complex life upon the land, mostly moss-like plants.

>focus expedition in which direction?
>>
>>19731041
East! Going right has never lead me wrong before!
>>
>>19731041
I say west. We should get an idea on if those lakes and rivers will be useful for maintaining a population but if no one else votes, just go east like >>19731062 suggests so we're not stuck in a dead lock.
>>
>>19731081
Seconding going to the lakes.

Might be a nice place to build an estate some day.
>>
The area East of your expedition's camp is extremely fertile land, and ends in a small mountain range that seems to form a crater's edge when viewed from orbit.
The area is a strange mixture of carpet-like moss fields and barren, black soil.

Surrounding features:
Rolling Hills [North, Unexplored]
Lake and Rivers [West, Unexplored]
Flatlands [South, Unexplored]
Flatlands [East, Extremely fertile, mosses]
Mountains [Far East, Unexplored]
>>
>>19731120
I say west this time.
>>
Exploration of the lake and rivers to the West of your expedition camp proceeds slowly as Bob learns that most of your armsmen are unable to swim! Floatation devices are are distributed accordingly while men attempt to net life forms within the lake while others venture down the rivers. Progress is eventually halted by a combination of canyons and rapids, though the majority of the men find them quite breathtaking. Your men fail to locate any life forms besides moss.

Surrounding features:
Rolling Hills [North, Unexplored]
Lake and Rivers [West, No non-microbial life]
Canyons [Far West, Unexplored]
Flatlands [South, Unexplored]
Flatlands [East, Extremely fertile, mosses]
Mountains [Far East, Unexplored]
>>
>>19731212
South.
>>
>>19731223
Yeah why not. Let's hit north next and get all the immediately near areas. Also, I think we should get Bob to train a group of our armsmen to be more effective.
>>
Much like the flatlands to the East of your expedition's camp, the southern flatlands are extremely fertile yet are strangely baren with only localized areas of carpet-like moss. Unlike the eastern flatlands, your men stumble upon a strange set of stones that do not appear to be natural. Bob believes them to be the ruins of a small building, but can not locate further evidence. The flatlands seem to stretch on and on...

Surrounding features:
Rolling Hills [North, Unexplored]
Lake and Rivers [West, No non-microbial life]
Canyons [Far West, Unexplored]
Flatlands [South, Ruins?]
Flatlands [Far South, Unexplored]
Flatlands [East, Extremely fertile, mosses]
Mountains [Far East, Unexplored]

>1 more! make it count. There is currently 1 "stuff" area!
>>
>>19731290
Hmm. I say we wager it on the canyons in the far west then.
>>
Exploration of the canyons proceeds slowly and nearly claims a dozen lives. Again, no lifeforms are found, but Bob discovers something far less natural...

Supply cache unearthed!
Planetary Map acquired!
Auto-cannons and ammunition acquired!
Possible STC acquired!

>next thread on THURSDAY @ 8:00 PM EST
>No, seriously, I promise!

>>19731412
so glad this quest is back, was missing it
>>
>get up in the morning
>check through catalog
>privateer quest

I'm so glad to see this hasn't died.
I can't play anymore because I have to actually sleep at night these days.
>>
>>19732177
I'm willing to run one of the weekly threads at a different time if several people are in such a position.
