And so it begins...

YOU ARE ALEX RASTON.

20 minutes ago, Dervish informed you of a trap.

15 minutes ago, he explained it's nature to you in breif, asking you to mobilize as many people as you can.

5 minutes ago, you finished doing exactly that, and then got a phone call from the same bastard that hacked your training simulator.

Which brings us to now: clocking just a hair under 150 mph, launching over a building on the outskirts back to your base. All that's between you and there is about 15 standard MT units, currently aimed in the direction of your team.

Dave grenade launcher center-punches one of the MT units, and Laurie makes a couple of them scatter with his rifle.

Only a couple of MTs have been taken out, but the remainder seems to know they're outclassed and start to go to ground.

"Come on!" Dave yells "Let's get back to base. We need to regroup ASAP."

"Wait" Laurie cuts in "These guys are Black-Rock. Shouldn't we take them out before we move on? I mean, we've SEEN what they do to captives."

[ ] Bigger picture. They couldn't even get into Vegas with that few, we need to focus on the main assault.
[ ] You're right. We can't let these monsters just run around. We'll clear the area and move on.

"No." You say, and you feel Laurie's gaze turn towards you. "We need to focus on the gigger picture right now. A group this small couldn't even begin to mess with Vegas on this scale. We need to worry about the main attack."

"What about Duke? Couldn't the Raven's Nest handle that?" Lawrence asks, almost pleading.

"We have no idea who's doing what how. We can't risk losing the whole city on this. We need to prioritize."

A long moment of silence. Then "Dammit. Damn them and damn you. Let's move." And then Laurie takes the lead as you continue to your base.
>>
>>19743294

You arrive back at base just in time to see your sister come out of the Hangar. It looks like Elsie's already deployed herself to a nearby roof. Your Com beeps as you let the two of them into the team channel.

"Mooch'll be along in a sec" Ari informs you. "He helped us get hooked up first."

"Any news?"

"We got Duke's alert, and Josh apparently thinks their primary thing is going to be coming out of the north."

"Anything out of Dervish's team?"

"He's the only one not in a suit yet. Apparently he called ahead for them to prep, but he's still making his way there."

"Right then, first we need to...."

[ ] Get the whole team, wait for Mooch.

>>
You get into the local Raven's nest coms.

Apparently some issues were had in establishing proper connections. Dervish is still gone, assumed to be in-route.

Captain Brenner's team hasn't mobilized, and calling their hangar yields no results.

There's also reports of a pair of weird looking prototype ACs running around and killing all the invading MTs they see, with seemingly little regard for collateral damage or organized defense.

You make your way to the Pack's hangar, and come across another buck of Black-Rock raiders along the way. They're at a distance, but directly in your path.

You tune the optics in closer, and you see they've already got about a dozen women and children they're about to 'rescue from this hellish world God has abandoned'.

You imagine that the men were already dealt with, judging by the blood-stains on their makeshift alter.

>What do? You can try and pass by unnoticed, you're still a hell of a way away and nobody's currently in their MTs. Unfortunately they might make a move on the hostages if you try and attack carefully, and ACs aren't exactly good at avoiding unprotected casualties.

You have Elsie deploy nearby, while you and Dave proceed stealthily on foot.

It's a careful balance to maintain: you need to get there as quickly as possible, but if you blow your cover before arrival they'll start killing hostages. But if you take too long, they'll start killing hostages, but in a properly ritualistic fashion.

You'll need to be careful....

You make your way partway there, when suddenly a stray cat 'rowls' at you and knocks over some debris on thew shallow half-alley you'd been sneaking down. Before you can recover from the suprise a voice rings out.

"I hear you heretics, though I must admit I'm impressed by your resourcefulness in getting this close without notice. Now, no more dancing about in the shadows, come out where I can see you properly. This is the only time I'll ask before I continue God's work."

Shit. He has you. And from his tone, you don't doubt that he's going to start carving up hostages if you ignore his command. Range is too far for you to get a proper shot off yet, and Elsie can't take them all without losing a hostage or two.

>Action?

You step into the street, after signaling Dave to stay down for now.

"Hands up." Says the leader. You comply. "Now how about your friend comes out too?"

"What friend?" You ask, hoping your voice is steady. The self proclaimed Preist laughs.

"You've got a clever tongue on you. Doubtless your master, Satan, is proud to have one as smooth as you in his service. But the truth is hard to hide from one of gods chosen, one who has heard his voice himself and had the strength to live on. Tell your friend to come out. Since he will not listen to me, perhaps he'll listen to you."

"And if nobody comes?"

"Then I'll be forced to assume that you mean to interrupt my ceremony, and I'll need to hurry things along a little bit." He grabs a girl, Christ she can't be more than ten, and pulls her close. Her tear streaked face is turned towards you, as the priest leans down to stage-whisper in her ear, clearly audible to you in the quiet street even the solid 30 yards away that you are. "Don't be frightened child. Death here is not a true death, merely a waking from a terrible dream. Once you're away you'll be safe from the tempters and corrupters here seeking only to gain company on their downward path."

Her sounds kind. Almost Fatherly. Like he truly believes every word.

If we stall/get closer, maybe we'll see something we can use to turn the tide of this situation....

I vote stall
>>
Alright yeah, stall.
I'm no good at philosophical debate, so one of you guys is gonna have to RP this stall.
>>
>>19745451
>>19745442

>Alright then. How are you going to go about the debate? Just start talking. I'll do the counter-points.
>>
Lemme see what I can cook up. I'm not exactly a great writer or debater.

"And you are saying that God wants you to kill all of these people, who want only to live their lives in peace? Do you picture yourself as some sort of Crusader, of in lands unknown smiting all that he finds "unholy" because he believes that that is the role God has given him?"

this is about all I've got. Hopefully someone else can do better
>>
>>19745491

"You know, last I remember from catechism, the path to heaven was to accept our Lord Jesus Christ and partake in the sacraments. But I don't see the body or blood of Christ here. How can you offer these people God when he doesn't seem to be here?"

>years of Lutheran catechism powers ACTIVATE
>>
Fuck yes AC quest! Oh how long it has been! Good to have you back AC-Guy
>>

>>19745507

He smiles at you. "Ah! perhaps not a heretic at all then, just a pilgrim who's strayed from the path." His eyes seemed to be unfocused for a minute "We were all there ourselves once. God's abandoned this world child, and he took all of his faithful with him. But...." He looks happy as he raises hands to the sky "There is yet hope! By casting off these tainted mortal coils we can yet be saved. Since God will not come to us, we shall have to go to him. It's a leap of faith, but all his faithful shall land safely. Even those who have doubts need only a guide. He spoke onto me myself and imparted these truths, as he did brother Clarent." He nods at another man wearing similar vestments, who you now notice has a knife ready to slash his own throat to 'guide' the newly departed onto heaven.

>Next?
>>
>>19745566
But are you sure the voice you heard was truly of God? Did you test it? Surely you remember what John wrote in his first Epistle. "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus, that spirit is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world."
>>
>>19745566

God never departs from the world. He is here always. He does not condone the depravity of our society, but in his benevolence has granted us free will, so that each of us may be held to account at the end of days.

Your claim to have been given these rituals by God? These people need your guidance? If so, let you aid them in more subtle ways, not by trying to deliver them to our Father yourselves. For as we know from Matthew 6, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven."
>>
>>19745608

I think if we combine these arguments we've got something, whether the priest is inclined to challenge his own belief that God actually spoke to him

he throws his head back and laughs. "y6ou know your scripture indeed. So if you aren't a heretic, what are you I wonder?" He muses. "No, I know well the ways of devils and angels. Such a warning is pointless though. He acknowledged me, and the truths of our faith in full."

>>19745648

"In better days that may have been true. God decided that it was time for this world to end, and called out to his children, but there were so many who didn't listen. Who couldn't hear or chose to listen to a different voice." He sounds genuinely heartbroken. "Even those of us among the clergy. But we were given our second chance here: to save those that can still be saved. In this duty we might yet be forgiven and see heaven. We need to spread the word. To help those who need our help. Our actions may seem monstrous to the uninitiated, but we know better. This world is merely a dream, and we shall soon all waken to God's embrace." He looks down, seemingly unaware that you've already halved the distance again, Dave having joined your side apparently. You're now debatably in pistol range, though it's hardly ideal. "Some though, will be going sooner than others. Worry not child ." He says as hew readies the knife and the girl in his arms begins to tremble violently. "God loves you still. I envy you for getting to see him first, but that sin is my cross to bear."

He raises his knife.....

We could put ourselves between the hostages, which would be good. Tell Dave to shoot, us to get between the hostages. Let none die!

You don't hesitate. "DAVE!" You yell.

"On it!" He responds, drawing his revolver. You run to the side of the stage. Two routes up, there's a sort of ramp that the rest of them use, but it's also a choke-point for them to use against you.

You could also go straight, and end up right in the middle of the hostages. There's a bit of trash heaped up, the footing doesn't look completely sure, but you think you can make it and be on them NOW.

>Go, acrobatics check or cover?
>>
>>19745957
Acrobatics check!
>>
>>19745957
So is the trash heaped up option the same as the "middle of hostages" option? If so, do not do that. We are trying to protect that, getting in the middile of them will lead to fast deaths.

Otherwise acrobatics check
>>
>>19745980
Agreeing with this guy, we want to usher them away and prevent the cultists from approaching, not get in the middle of them and have them be shot.

You try to block the incoming strike, and are completely unsuccessful, since you were slightly shakier on the landing than you thought.

As he steps in to deliver a blow, you calmly side-step, and then deliver a brutal chop to his trachea. then you take his rifle out of his considerably more pliant hands.

"Glrgh!" He protests.

"No." you respond. "Mine now." And then you bring it down as a club so hard you feel the wooden stock break.

Then you draw your gun, and a third guy's head explodes behind you as Elsie takes another shot. Only three hostile left now.

A lot of things happen at once. You get your first real look at what they've been doing up here. You see a dozen children with their throats slit, and several men who clearly tried to fight back, having been stabbed to the point of mutilation to ensure they stayed down. there's a woman who was clearly pregnant before her demise, clearly treated all the rougher for daring to bring a new soul into this world.

You feel nauseous. But somewhere deep inside of you, something dark and terrible begins to take root.

Deep down, Alex Raston learns to hate.
