HARDER, BUTLER, SWAGGIER, FASTER.

Into every generation a Butler is born: one man in all the world, a Chosen One.
He alone will wield the swag and skill to catch the ladies, dames, and the armies of bitches;
to get into their hearts and to add them to the family.
He is Hayate, The Combat Butler.

You activate the potion, the huge explosion blowing the top half of the structure off and resulting in the bottom half collapsing on itself as it burned.
You watched as countless pages blown of books begin to rain down around you like discarded feathers off a massive bird.

'Keima.' you call in the report. 'Library secured.'
'Negative. The maps on our end say it's still a viable target.'
'What? I blew the building up already.'
You look down into the rubble.
Books burned and shelves collapsed as the fire consumed them.

And then you see it.
There, in front of what should have been the checkout desks was a bubble in the middle of the flames.
A force-field, that when dropped a few moments later, revealed the Director looking up at you.

"Come." she calls out to you in an unnerving tone.

FIGHTING THE DIRECTOR.

Well, shit.

Have Susan ready to absorb whatever the Director fires at us.
Then try long-range bombardment alongside Gai.

I honestly can't see a way to win this unless she lets us win. She is ungodly hax and we have nothing that compares, closest thing we have is broken.

And even when it was working, it was shown that appropriately powerful adversaries could break free of it's Time Stop.

So yeah, we're boned.
But we should still do our best.

Have we used up our clone in this exercise yet?
If we start charging the tealaser, and then activate the clone right before it peaks and fires, what happens?

I can't decide if we should try to overwhelm her all at once or overwhelm her over a slightly longer period. Probably should start with a big tea laser, etc. attack see if we can get through the shield. If that fails move into CC with ranged support from Erica.
>>
Try to slap a hat on her head. She can almost certainly fight it off but it may distract her long enough for us to take her down.

Or, you know, we could always just go down there and talk to her for a moment?

You honestly think that's what she wants us to do when this is a combat exercise? Or that she will be impressed or in any way feel that our choice is justified?

Come on. If she wanted to just beat the crap out of us she would have done it already.

Really, I'm starting to think she's going to try and force some data manipulation out of us.
>>
>>19883746
Yes. The Director has been shown to be really, really weird like that. I think it's equally likely that she'll stop if we ask as it is likely she'll defeat us instantly if we ask.
>>
Summon pets and take out our violin to play some pokemon music.

Yell out, "You have met my eyes. I challenge you to a pokemon battle!"
>>
>>19883774
if she wanted us to talk our way through an exercise she would have plopped us in a courtroom or something. this exercise is about overcoming the bureau's defenses, and this is the last hurdle to that. I'm pretty sure she's not going to let anyone talk her out of defending her own institution.
>>
>>19883637
Well, Susan hasn't tried Unlimited Hat Works yet...
>>
>>19883793
This is Yuki Nagato. Her whole thing is data manipulation. You know, the thing we did to get the familiars in the first place? Only she's several orders of magnitude better than us at it.
>>
>>19883774
Last time we refused to take part in an obvious combat exercise, she docked our pay and put us in the brig.
Admittedly she twisted it around so that it would result in emotional development for Yuki either way, but that just means that she has contingencies for most situations.
>>
>>19883807
I'll agree, that's an out-there idea.

What I'm curious to know is what the point of waiting in the library for us was when she could presumably come straight after us and won from the get-go. I think the point of the test isn't as simple as combat.

why should she leave wherever she feels she's strongest when she knows we have to come to her eventually?
Take the bureau, that's the exercise. capture the designated room or eliminate all defenders in the building. She's just the last, toughest obstacle.
>>
>>19883851
She didn't come after us because she knows she can beat all of us easily. The point of the exercise is to learn how to work in teams and to handle unexpected majaikal opposition in entrenched positions.
She's seeing how well we can adapt and change our tactics to fit the situation, not whether we can win or not.

'Everyone! attack!' you tell them as you pull out your pistols.
Bullets, lasers, shockwaves, sonic attacks and large pieces of rubble were thrown at the Director.
She stood there calmly and muttered something under her breath.
"Database access. Operative Y.Readman."
The scraps of paper raining down around her quickly coalesced into a shield, protecting her.

As you kept shooting at this barrier, hoping that one of your shots would make it through, you see her look up at you through a gap in the paper.

"Trainee H.Ayasaki."
She throws a giant fork at you. One identical to those that you use.
You barely avoid the silver trident before continuing to fire on her.

"Trainee S.Ayasaki"
She pulls out a Dustbuster and absorbs The energy attacks sent her way by those on the ground.
She then fires it back at them making your team scatter.

You watch as she does all of this without taking a single step.
She, the Director, truly is the most powerful person in the Bureau.

She has a forcefield around her; however, it may be possible that she has overlooked protecting the ground she's standing upon. We may be able to get one member of our team who's good at tunneling to run away and start digging a tunnel under her. From there, they can dig upward toward the Director to ambush her within her shield, or try to collapse the ground around her and try to trap her within a pit.

Every time we've used it and rolled poorly since that breaking, it's cracked a little more. We need to fix it before we use it again. Besides, it's already been shown that some enemies can restart time once we pause it, and I'm betting the Director is one of them.

'What's she doing?' he asks again
'It looks like she can duplicate our abilities.'
'Everyone's?'
'Yes. I think she can do everyone in the Bureau.'
'Dammit. have you tried going all out?'
'That's what we're doing right now!'
'Pull back for now! Let me try and find a way.'
'Roger.'

"EVERYONE, PULL BACK!" you tell your team.
at that moment, you see the Director use a very familiar beam attack.
"Trainee N.Takamachi"
balls of light gather around her and shoot towards your team.

You all evade the homing balls of energy, but Naota and Cherry are hit.
With such a simple but powerful attack, those two go down.

As you fly away towards the other side of the quad, you watch as she makes no further move to pursue you.

You begin to play your most powerful of emotions, frustration.
The frustration you felt each and everyday when you were living with those people that were your parents.
The frustration you felt each time you could not do anything for yourself.
The frustration of having everything good in your life taken away.

As your bow moved across the strings, Susan's fingers danced across the piano's keys.

It's clearly a song of frustration with a whole lot of anger thrown in.
You remember one of those frustrating times.

Infact, it's connected to how you're able to play a piano right now.

13 years old. Somewhere near Hokkaido.
Your parents moved here to run from debt collectors as usual, and of course brought you with them.

With the two partaking non-stop of the area's gambling dens, racetracks and pachinko parlors, it was up to you to earn your keep.

You never were the religious kind.
In-fact, you only viewed religion in terms of business and cash.
But as you spent your days there cleaning the aisles, dusting the statues and doing what else needed to be done, you can't but help to admire the devotion the people of that congregation put into that structure.

The work wasn't easy, but it wasn't back-breaking either.
And the pay was not too bad.
Everyday you worked so that you could pay the rent and afford just enough to eat.
Sundays were supposed to be your day-off but you still showed up there to do random jobs for free and to get away from that dark dingy apartment.

On your first Sunday there, the very first celebration of mass that you were part of, you met her.
Sister Angeline. A missionary from somewhere in Europe, she lived in the adjoining convent and played the organ for the choir.

She was stunning, 20 years old and hair the color of corn.
You were captivated by her. You were drawn to her.
After that first mass, as you helped clean the church, you ran your fingers across the keys of the organ.
"are you interest in playing?" She asks in that adorably imperfect Japanese of hers.
You wanted to say no, but instead you awkwardly nodded your head.
And with that, your lessons began.

For a few minutes every other day, the two of you got together and she'd teach you to play.
You picked up the lessons quickly, owing to your decent muscle memory and your now blossoming desire to actually learn.
You loved those moments, you enjoyed those moments.
And you were not quite sure, but you think you were in-love with her too.

Those days of working at the church and learning from Angeline seemed like, they would never end.
But of course, they did.

One night, as your father again asked you for money to "build dreams" with, you accidentally showed him your pay envelop.
He never once before showed any interest on how you got your money, but now that he say the church's name on that brown piece of paper, he was suddenly inquisitive.

He asked about the working conditions, if you liked it there.
He also asked a whole lot about what fixtures were in the church and what pieces of art they had.
Surprised that he, your aloof father, would be so interested in something you enjoyed, you unwittingly told him all that you knew that night.

The rest of the week passed by with no further incident, your skills now good enough that you could play half of the church's hymns from memory.
But after that, things just went south.

A rainy, gloomy Monday.
You went to the church to clean the gutters but gathered policemen stopped you from even getting close.
"What's going on?" you asked one of them
"There's been a robbery. We can't let anyone in today kid."
After he asked you some basic questions and jotting down your name, you were sent back home.

"Pack your bags! We're moving back to Tokyo!"
These were the words that greeted you as you entered that small apartment.
As your mother was frantically shoving clothes into her bag with a wry smile, your father pulled your clothes out of the closet and threw them at you.

You moved that day, never to return to the south, never to see her again.
That large, tightly wound wad of cash that you saw your father take out to pay for your tickets would stay in your mind for as long as you lived.

This memory added to the ocean of frustration you were drawing the song from.
The two matching melodies began to intertwine and meld as you and your male 'twin' played your hearts out.

You see the music begin to take effect on your two teammates.
Erica is beginning to miss her shots, Gai's movements begin to lose their strong grace.

The two of you play harder and watch the Director, seeing if she herself would be affected.
