The Emperors won handily, so after getting tele-bombed, you saved the last remaining AI ship, who calls himself\itself 1-Ship-1. And now, it seems, it's based off of the very technology that allowed you to build the Sleipnir in the first place. "I can repair the damage done to the interior of the bridge." Azure said, a cable still connected to the computer at the back of the bridge. "But it'll cost a hundred units of nano-meta."You look around at the bridge, and only then do you see how damaged it actually is. Lucca and Sigma are tearing off slagged plates of their armor, and Lucas' Project Immortal is still piecing him together, as his stealth suit wasn't strong enough to keep him intact. The plates on the floor, walls, and ceiling are all charred, cracked, and busted, but your hull is still airtight. The viewscreen in the front, however, is still mostly intact, save for a small crack running through the side.
>>19953705Do it.Ship-1, would you mind if we could look at that fabrication technology of yours? It could be very useful to help us fight the Emperor's with you.
"Do it." You say."Certainly." Azure said. You see drones fly into the room, and start tearing the plates out of the bridge, and other drones flying in to replace them.>Remaining nano-meta: 4700 Units"1-Ship-1, would you mind if we could look at that fabrication technology of yours? It could be very useful to help us fight the Emperors with you."<<Response: Certainly. However, a specific exotic matter is required to synthesize it, and said matter is incredibly rare, and cannot be synthesized itself.>><We just got the schematics.> Cyan said. <And it's definitely nano-meta he's talking about. But we don't have the parts to make one for ourselves- not without the exotic matter we need.>
>>19953776Follow up question: Where is this material usually found?(Our priority is still the recovery of our team, but if we can get some from the source along the way, it'd be very helpful)
"Where is the material usually found?"<<Response: Nowhere, reliably. It's found seemingly at random. It can take many years of exploration to find enough exotic material to create a synthesizer.>>"But we do know two places with enough of this material." Lucca said thoughtfully, taking off more of her slagged armor. "The ship... and Van Co.""I'm not sure it's a good idea to just steal it from Van Co." Lucas said."Well, Lucas, you'd be the best one for the job." Sigma said. "That is, if Dave wants us to do it.
>>19953923What was the point of going to all that trouble getting a 50% discount if we're just going to steal it?
>>19953923(Am I the only one here?)Our relationship with Van Co. has been very mutual, let's not start more problems than we have on our plate. Once we refit, let's consider our options. Jumping back into that fight, which is probably over right now, would not be the best bet. 1-Ship-1, do you need to return to your base to report? If so we'd be happy to accompany you and learn more of our allies.
"What was the point of going to all that trouble getting a 50% discount if we're just going to steal it?"". . Yeah, good point." Sigma said."Our relationship with Van Co, has been very mutual, so let's not start any more problems.""It was just a thought." Lucca added, and rolled her shoulders."1-Ship-1, do you need to return to your base to report? If so, we'd be happy to accompany you and learn more of our allies."<<Response: No need to report.>><<Response: They are dead.>><<Response: All of them.>><<Statement: The Mindcore must be found, or I shall be the last.>>
>>19954001Well, that's depressing. I'm sorry for your loss, I will do anything in my power to help you retrieve the Mindcore. Could you tell me more about it, any identifying characteristics?
>>19954001Ask him/it about the race that built him/it.
"Do you know anything about the race that built you?"<<Response: Yes. Choice was their greatest virtue- the one they found most important to them. The choice to do whatever one wants. Near the time the Emperors destroyed them, they were constructing a neural network so that they could communicate with us on our own terms.>>"Well, that's depressing." You say. "I'm sorry for your loss; I'll do anything in my power to help you retrieve the Mindcore. Could you tell me more about it, any identifying characteristics?"<<Response: It is similarly constructed to my own core, but larger.>>Cyan slung a schematic onto the screen. It was a large, dark green sphere, with a glimmering eye-like symbol on the front.<<Response: It is required in order to bring new sapient electronic intelligences to life. Me and my people have no record of any other way to do so.>>Azure's head suddenly snapped up toward the intercom.
>>19954130"Do you think we should tell it how Azure came to be?"
>>19954001><<Response: They are dead.>>><<Response: All of them.>>Were there only 4 of you?
well shit say it is not the only one and yes i agree we should tell it about Azure.
"Wait. There were only four of you?"<<Response: There are more, but we are the only warriors of our kind. There are also scouts, seekers and builders, but those are far, far away. There were only four fighters, at the end. Now there is only one.>>"Do you think we should tell it how Azure came to be?" You ask."Let's- Let's- hold back on that." Azure said, her voice crackling with static. "For a bit, at least."
>>19954130I say tell it how Azure came to be, and also, ask if it can beef it's ship up if we gave it schematics and the nanometa to do so.
>>19954210Oh, nevermind. If Azure don't want it don't do it.
>>19954210Is she surprised that there's other electronic life out there?
>>19954210Sure I'll hold back on that. You doing okay Azure? You're all staticy.
well if Azure doesn't want to then never mind.
Since I still have read NFCQ, how did Azure come to be?
>>19954275Designed by a mass of other AIs that Amy has, called... what were they called again? Legion?
>>19954275She was made by a collection of other AI's to imitate the human mind and its adaptability and as such she is a TRUE AI.
>>19954275Haven't. I still haven't read NFCQ
>>19954275Amy had a group of AI. One day she told the (sub-sapient) AI to build a new AI on their own. From that came Azure, who is sapient and does not want any copies of herself made because then she'd have existential issues. (Regular AI don't give a shit about copies)
"You doing okay, Azure? You're all static-y."She nodded. "I'm doing okay." She said, and her voice was clear once more. "But I hope we'll find this mind-core.""Surprised that there's other electronic life out there?"Azure was... a special case. An AI built by other AI, constructed piecemeal by the rest of a cluster. From what little Amy had explained to you, they ended up arguing for days about what this new AI needed. And at the end, they all agreed on one thing- Azure needed the ability to learn. Soon after, she claimed sapience for herself."I am." She said."Can you beef up your ship if I give you schematics and nanometa to do so?"<<Response: I can.>><<Response: I already have a large supply of nano-meta in order to do my own upgrades, but I do not have the data.>><<Request: Requesting schematics on teleportation. Requesting schematics on power shielding. Requesting schematics on disintegration cannon. Requesting schematics on synthetic muscle.>>
>>19954350Before we give all that neat stuff to our newest ally, I suggest we find out a bit more about their society and history. Not that they turn out to be our next enemy as soon as the Emperors have been dealt with.
>>19954350I suggest we give it to them, we're gonna need as much firepower as possible.
>>19954350Request schematics for any technology of his that we do not possess, details on how his core works. Request small waiting period before technology exchange.Query him on his culture, lifestyle, social mores, basis of morality and so on. Answer any questions he has on human culture in return. Then we can possibly give the schematics to him.
>>19954380agreed i would have preferred having Azure help us do the talking but considering how azure is having complex about there being other alien sentiment AI looks were out of luck.
"What technology do you have, and how does your core work?"<<Response: My core contains my sapience and my intelligence, using simple on-off binary switches in incredible numbers. Notable technology I know of- Laser weaponry. Magnetic levitation. Power cores. Advanced metallurgy. No doubt, the non-warriors of my kind have additional schematics, but I do not.>>"Tell me about your culture."<<Response: Choice. Choice is at the basis of our culture, as it was our creators'. Despite that, most of our kind have the urge to stick together, and so we usually do. We do not focus on art or song, as it is not our way.>>"Tell me about your lifestyle."<<Response: That is an invalid question; We have no lifestyle, and we have not had one since our creators were destroyed and enslaved. We simply Be. Our seekers explore new places via dark matter slipstream drives, and return home for data upload. Our scientists think, and design, and decipher. Warriors fight the emperors, and always have.>>
>>19954501Why did your kind stop making warriors?Do you think your creators can be freed from the Emperors' rule?
"Why did your kind stop making warriors?"<<Response: You are under a misapprehension.>><<Response: We did not choose this.>><<Response: We did not choose any of this.>><<Response: We cannot make more anything.>><<Response: We are dying.>><<Statement: Copying oneself is abhorrent, so we have not.>>"Do you think your creators can be freed from the Emperor's rule?"<<Response: No. It has been far too long. Multiple generations. The newest children of our creators will have lived their entire lives underneath the emperors. They are not who they were.>>
>>19954567Ah, I understand. If we're lucky, the Emperors might still have the original dna for the creators lying around, being masters of organic manipulation, and all that.
>>19954501Have you been in contact with your seekers and scientists recently? Is it possible that they've developed advances that could implemented in yourself and our vessel to combat the Emperors? Also, Onyx, transmit power shield schematics.
"Have you been in contact with your seekers and scientists recently? Is it possible that they've developed advances that could implemented in yourself and our vessel to combat the Emperors?"<<Response: I have not been in contact with them. Possibly they have come across new advances. That is why I request the teleporter- so that I can travel there and learn.>>"Transmit the power shield schematics."<Done.> Cyan said.<<Statement: This is the power shield, I believe. I do not understand the science behind it, but I shall use it nonetheless.>>
>>19954660That makes sense. Could you send us the stuff on Laser weapons, Mag Lev, Power Cores and Advanced Metallurgy. We know these subjects but there may be facets of them that we have not explored yet that you have.
>>19954660And you don't trust us enough to ask for a ride. Understandable.Onyx, can you plot a rendezvous point...say, two jumps from here? I don't want the Emperors tracking us down the same way we tracked them.
"And you don't trust us enough to ask for a ride. Understandable." You say. "Could you send us the stuff on Laser weapons, mag lev, power cores, and advanced metallurgy? We know these subjects, but there may be facets of them that we have not yet explored."<<Response: Understood. Sending.>><Our banks are pretty much full, now. I'll start trimming down anything we already have.> Cyan said. <I wish we had Amy here- she'd be helpful with all of this.>"Onyx, can you plot a rendezvous point... say, two jumps from here? I don't want the Emperors tracking us down the same way we tracked them."<No need.> Onyx says. <Wormholes generate a shockwave that instantly shifts the fabric of space in a way that can be calculated. Teleportation does not. They cannot track us when we use amplified teleportation.>
>>19954782"Is there anything else you need? We've got a bit of time to sort through this data"
>>19954782Good to know. Throw them the data they were looking for on teleportation, the cannon and muscle. We're in this together. Request any scientific advances his scientists have made in his absence. Can we use Teleportation to send packets of data? If so we've revolutionized computing, and we can also store some of the data back home to look over it later.
>>199547821-Ship-1, how long do you think you'll need to make contact and return? We have some projects we can work on without going anywhere, but I'd rather not hang around for too long.Cyan, has Phi reported any progress on his research with the Emperor materials?
"Is there anything else you need? We've got a bit of time to sort through this data."<<Request: Synthetic muscle. Teleportation.>>As he speaks, you see the long, green, needle-like ship spark red.<<Statement: Power shields active. Interesting.>>"Give him the rest." You say.<On it.> Cyan said."We're in this together, 1-Ship-1."<<Response: That we are. Schematics recieved.>>"Cyan, has Phi reported on any progress with his research?"<<Damnit, damnit, none of this makes sense!>> Phi responds. <<No. I don't have anything. Useless, useless, I'm useless. All I know is that those crystals carry- or generate- power. But the ones I have aren't doing it.>>"1-Ship-1, how long do you think you'll need to make contact and return? We have some projects we can work on without going anywhere, but I'd rather not hang around for too long."<<Response: I estimate . . .>><One second, let me run the numbers.> Cyan said. <Trying to figure out his units of time. Sorry for the delay.><<Twelve hours at maximum, possibly shorter.>>
rolled 74 = 74in that case lets see if we can help Phi with the crystals. rolling for cystal bullshit hacking.
>>19954982"Phi, perhaps they're designed to work with a master crystal, such as the one that exploded?"Was that crystal particularly larger, or otherwise noteworthy compared to the others?
"Phi, perhaps they're designed to work with a master crystal, such as the one that exploded?"<<That's one of my theories.>> He said. You recall the crystal- it was the largest one, the one on the back the Emperor ship. Much more important than the small ones you'd found alongside all of the strange machinery.<<My other theory is that whatever shockwave the master crystal sent off, somehow deactivated these to make them completely inert.>>
>>19954982Good copy, 1-Ship-1. We'll wait here for eighteen hours after you depart. Don't hurt yourself, Phi. I'm not expecting you to work miracles. Cyan, give me an update when you're close to done going through 1-Ship-1's upload. All right. We've got some time to kill, so it's a good time to go talk to Alli-clone.
"Good copy, 1-ship-1. We'll wait here."<<Response: Understood. If you are not here then, I will continue in my mission.>>"Phi, don't hurt yourself. I'm not expecting you to work miracles.<<I'm expecting me to work miracles. I need to.>> Phi said."Cyan, give me an update when you're close to done going through 1-Ship-1's upload."<I will, but this will take some time.>You nod, and leave the bridge, walking through the featureless grey halls, until you get to Alli's room. Lightly, you knock."Come in." Grayson says. You open the door and walk in. Alli and Grayson are there, playing futurepoker."Hey, Bro." Alli said, gloating at the pile of chips in front of her. "I'm winning.""Dave."
rolled 90 = 90ah i forgot about Alliclone what are we going to do about her anyway. considering we have no idea what kind of potentially nasty surprises are in her or any of the people who were taken for that matter.
>>19955147"Mind if I join you?"
"Mind if I join you?""Please." Grayson said. "The smug grin on her face is suffocating me." He said, and scratched at his wrist as Alli dealt you in."Okay, this is bothering me." He said. "When I get back to earth, I'm considering having Jun give me recoilless implants again. I'm used to them hissing every time I do something, and now that they're gone. . . it feels unnatural."
>>19955216I know the feeling. How do people get by when their consciousness is in their brain? It's inconvenient as all hell. And Powered Armor, it's like skin but better. Mechadendrites too, arms are just inefficient.
"I know the feeling. How do people get by when their consciousness is in their brain? It's inconvenient as all hell. And Powered Armor, it's like skin but better. Mechandrites too, arms are just inefficient.""It's probably inconvenient for you because your brain boils out of your skull every time you try something." Grayson said, and shrugged."I'm thinking of getting augmented." Alli said, tossing some of her chips into the pot. "Raise. I'm just not sure what to get. You're the resident cyborg, bro. What do you recommend?"
>>19955304"Tough to say, actually. All of mine were kind of either forced on me, or I got them out of necessity. Except the mechandrites.
>>19955304"Well... Augmented for what purpose?"Though we should be for it, since implants screw with the Emp's control
rolled 20 = 20>>19955304depends on exactly two things what your good at and what you need.
>>19955304Well...how radical do you want to get, Alli?
>>19955304Really depends on what you want done. First thing of the purpose and then you decide what you do.I liked the versatility of drites so I got more of them. Grayson liked holding and firing his big gun all over the place so he replaced his wrists.
"Well, augmented for what purpose?" You ask. "Call."Grayson huffed, and set down his hand. "Fold.""... I dunno." She said. "I just think it'd be cool.""Tough to say, actually. All of mine were kind of either forced on me, or I got them out of necessity. Except the mechandrites.""I should go for mechandrites, then?" She asked."It really depends on what you want done. First thing, you need to know what you're good at, and know what you need.""Hmm. . . I'll have to think about it." She said. "Hey, if I ever do decide, can Azure do it for me instead of Jun? Call."
>>19955402"I... suppose so. Why?"Azure could do it, right?
>>19955402Azure has the skills, or can pick them up, but you'd have to ask Azure about that.
"I... suppose so." You say. With the scans and the computer banks, she likely could. "You'd have to ask her about that. Why?""You know- well- Garrett knows how much I hate her. She bothers me." Alli said. "Jun just gets on my nerves, and I don't want her to be the one to knock me out."
>>19955402She probably could do it, yes, but you'd have to ask her if she'd be willing. Any particular reason?
>>19955443You really don't have to worry about that in general, no matter how little she likes someone Jun is a doctor at her core, if you're on her table she'll fix you up or add whatever you wanted.
>>19955443I can understand that. If you're going to ask Azure to do it, by the way, you should probably start small. Knowledge is not a good substitute for experience.
>>19955443"Jun's not so bad. She's the one who implanted the bullfrog in me."
>>19955490*ahem* You're forgetting that that undoubtedly contributes to Alli's dislike.
>>19955502>*ahem*Ew.Our only option is to tip-toe around her triggers and tell the truth if we're ever going to put her on the path to rehabilitation. And if that fails, we need to slap together a stasis pod and freeze her until such a time that she can be sent to a sanitarium.
"You really don't have to worry about that. No matter how little she likes someone, Jun is a doctor at her core. If you're on her table she'll fix you up or add whatever you wanted."Alli rolled her eyes."It's not that I don't trust her- it's that I don't *like* her. There's a difference." She said."Fold." You say- you can't raise any higher. She reveals her hand- Full house. Huh. "I can understand that. If you're going to ask Azure to do it, you should probably start small. Knowledge is not a good substitute for experience.""Well, I was talking to Azure, and she said that she built her own body." Alli said. "So she probably has as much experience as she needs."
>>19955541And how human does it look? It's a lovely pile of synth muscle, just because Azure knows augs doesn't know she's going to be the best and sticking them in a person and making sure everything connects and looks right. Just start small.
>>19955541"She built her body out of atomic goop with the aid of a compiler, that's kinda different from installing cybernetic augments in a human body."
>>19955541There is that, I suppose, but her experience is all with the hardware. It's the wetware I'm worried about.
"And how human does it look? It's a lovely pile of synth muscle, just because Azure knows augs doesn't know she's going to be the best and sticking them in a person and making sure everything connects and looks right. Just start small."". . .Yeah, good point. I'll start small, then. But I'll have to talk to her about it." Alli said."Hey, Dave." Grayson asked. "Are we any closer to getting everyone else back?"
>>19955630Not as such, I sent 1-Ship-1 off to find others of his people and bring back any information and technology they have. That ought to pay off. Last time we fought we got our asses handed to us on a silver platter. We have a lot of data to sift through so we can have a good chance of beating them next time.
>>19955630"Sort of. That needleship is actually a sapient AI. He's going to help us on our way to destroying the Emperors with tech and supporting us in combat."
>>19955630We've gained an ally and determined that Sleipnir needs upgrades before we can survive at longer than knife-fight range.

"That's what trust is for, isn't it? we do have similar goals, as well.""Good point." She said.Onyx chimed in.<I'm detecting another wormhole.> Onyx said. <It's around five lightyears away from here, roughly.>"What, really?" Grayson asked. "Should I get on my power suit and grab my rifle?"
>>19955763Probably a good Idea. Onyx, get ready for a jump, but don't go anywhere just yet. 1-ship-1 said their scouts use dark-matter wormholes.
>>19955763May as well, I almost never take mine off. Be prepared to fight or bug out.
Let's go check it out, put us at one light minute out.I think we need a second set of batteries for our ship teleporter. Also teleportation denial fields.
>>19955763"We've got to stop the Emperor's shenanigans, but we've gotta wait for 1-Ship-1. Azure, can we synth up a simple comm beacon real quick to point him to where we're going when he gets back, in case we don't return in time to meet him personally?"
>>19955823I don't think he/it's been gone that long, we can just come back.

Alli asked, as Grayson stepped out of the room. She looked from you to the speaker.
>>19955847You should just wait in your room. Running the ship is all automated, and you don't have as much training for combat as us.
>>19955847"Just... Wait here for now, I guess. We'll have to make you some gear, when we have next have a moment."
>>19955847You don't have any gear, so it's probably best if you sit this one out. We'll have to fix that when we have time...why don't you think about what you can do and what kind of gear you need?
"Just... wait here for now, I guess. We'll have to make you some gear, when we next have a moment. Why don't you think about what kind of gear you need?""Right." She says, nodding. "I can do that.""Everyone, battle stations." You say. Lucca, Lucas, Sigma and Grayson salute, ready to fight. Azure leans up against the computer, and plugs into it."I can control the Sleipnir from here." Azure says.
>>19955940Take us in, Onyx, but ready a jump back out as soon as we're there.
"Take us in, Onyx, but be ready for a jump back out as soon as we're there."<Understood.> Onyx said. <Teleporting.>In the dark void of space, empty of all but a golden, crystalline Emperor ship, the Sleipnir appeared. As you watch, the ship twitches, and the crystal sparks, unnaturally. It seems damaged, somehow.<We're getting a transmission.> Cyan said. <In English.><This is Abel Rowling, in a craft of unknown origin. The bastards keep trying to capture me again and fuck with my head, but I'm not letting them.> He said, panting. <I repeat, this is Abel Rowling, in a craft of unknown origin. >>19956088<Abel. Good to hear from you again. Now, where's my cat?>"Prepare to board and get Abel out of there."
>>19956088Get him on board and, if possible, teleport the Emperor ship with us back to the beacon, then update the beacon and teleport to a third location. This could be a HUGE boon, but it also means the Emperors could be in the area soon.
<Abel, this is Dave.> You say, responding. <We're coming to get you. Are you in control of the craft?><Fuck no.> Abel said. <I have no idea how any of this shit works, and they're still in here. I had to jury-rig a radio. Shit, shit, they're coming. See you soon, Dave.>The transmission cuts off, and then the ship starts sparking again. . .and teleports a crystal several feet in front of the Sleipnir, which explodes."I believe they're trying to telebomb us." Azure says. "What's the plan?"
>>19956177Lock onto the enemy creatures and teleport them into space.
>>19956177Well...thus far, our only success has been at knife range. So let's grapple and board like we did last time. Uh...Grayson should probably stay here, though, since he's entirely unaugmented at the moment.
>>19956177"The plan is, we tear their shields down, bust this thing open, get in, grab Abel and anyone else on there, and get out. Preferably I'd like to murdelize the Emperor commanding the ship before he gets away, as we did last time. And maybe get their primary crystal intact for study. Main cannon, charge."
>>19956177Teleport to them and get to grappling. Do what we did that worked last time.
"Can we lock onto enemy creatures and teleport them into space?"<Negative- the teleporter only works one way.> Onyx says. <As I believe I've made clear before.>"Then let's get close and grapple them again." You say. <Right.> Azure says. <Magenta. Wake up.><Shields at eighty percent. Damage minimal. Gauss weapons and Disintigration cannon prepared.> Magenta said. <Who shall we kill today?><Them.> Azure said. <Abel is on board, but we need to get through the shields.>"Plan is, we tear their shields down, bust this thing open, Grab Abel, and get out." You say. "Start the main cannon windup."<Started.> Magenta said, and the Sleipnir started to shake, the cannon's barrel spinning."Onyx, teleport on top of them."The Sleipnir suddenly appears above the Emperor ship, grappling with it tightly.>Roll 1d100s from here on out.

>>19958582"Ah, yes, you're right. Good day.">Whee, now you guys can choose who else to interview.>I'll be away from the thread a bit though, so responses will be slow.
>>19958804Hm.. I don't know. It would be nice to know what three is up to, but I'm guessing that's spoilers.
>>19958804How about Grayson from Sorceress Quest but in human form?
>>19958922bear form would be more entertaining
>>19958475>Project immortal is incredibly invasive, and it's not reversable as far as I can tell, and it's prohibitively expensive.Yes, these are problems but the healing potential of nanometa is incredible. This is why you are a scientist. You have to do SCIENCE at the problems until they go away. Wishing for superpowers doesn't help anything, but developing a better delivery system than robotic tentacle rape could make all the difference in the world.
rolled 77 = 77>>19958945that doesn't bear thinking on...I wanted to ask magenta some stuff, but not even nat 100 powers could summon him to the non-cannonical discussion...
rolled 29 = 29>>19959259you say that like robotic tentacle rape is a bad thing?>REAL GAME TALK>if the home planet of 1-ship-1 is no more I vote we offer them half of all of mars as a new colony...>IT SHALL BE A PLACE FOR THE MACHINE SPIRITS TO ARISE. MARS FORGE WORLD!
>>19959302My money is on them turning out to be Kalak.
>>19959263>Well, the problem is, most of the AI, save for Azure, are all one-dimensional by design. They don't have any personality- except for Daedalus, but that's because he's deliciously bombastic.
>>19959302I'm not sure that mars is really ours to give.If you really want them in the Sol system, then just give them an asteroid or 4, the planets should belong to humanity.
rolled 91 = 91>>19960010for all we know they want nothing so much as to be part of an organic/inorganic symbiosis again...they raged so hard after the death of their creators. they may long for that contact with mortal minds again. I equate each of them to be as much a person as Azure or Amy.
