Sup/tg/. In a recent thread, someone asked about the possibility of /tg/ running their very own Eye of Terror Campaign, and if it were possible. I read it, dug deep into my WD Library and pulled out WD 289 and 290 (Australian/NZ edition) which have rules for fighting your very own Eye of Terror Campaign from day one, including the use of Event Cards. So, in the spirit of us getting shit done, recreating the past and even changing /tg/ canon, I am proposing we fight our very own Eye of Terror Campaign, with me as the Games Master (GM), and with the fa/tg/uys determining the fate of the Cadian Gate.
Here’s theoretically how it would work. A forum would be created, as the hub of the campaign. There, battle reports would be posted, strategies planned and armies displayed. The campaign as written in the WDs and IRL would run for eight weeks, which will be the length of our campaign. During each week of the Campaign, fa/tg/uys fight their battles for the forces or Order and Disorder, and post Battle Reports on the campaign forum and /tg/. At the end of each week, I would calculate the total results of that week’s battles, and post a run-down of the situation around the Eye, who’s winning where and so on, with my fellow writefags and myself adding some narrative. I will also scan and post the event cards onto the forum, so players can use them to add some spice to the campaign as it progresses. After eight weeks of bloody and brutal combat, we find out if /tg/ can do better than the entire world did, and whether Chaos breaches the Cadian gate of the Imperium holds fast and throws Abaddon back into the Eye.
There may be questions about legality, but these rules are in an official White Dwarf, and are meant to allow us (the gamers) to recreate the campaign, so I see nothing wrong with it, though the White Dwarf is from 2002. I am no lawyer, so I can’t be sure, but things like this have been done in the past, so I think we can get away with it. All we would need is an Eye of Terror Campaign map I can update, a safe and secure web forum, and a few other bits and bobs I can’t think about at the moment (it’s well past midnight here in NZ, and this sort of idea only comes from delerium, I expect to regret it come the morning).
not m/tg/ relatedget off the front paeg
So, /tg/, what say you? Is this an idea worth pursuing, and are we up to the challenge of refighting the 13th Black Crusade?
Creed approves of this.
I like this idea.
Sounds good OP. Gutted I dont live near 40K gamers anymore so wouldnt be able to contribute. Will keep my eye on this in the hope that it wont fade away
Oh hey, I suggested it, but I didn't think it'd actually go anywhere.Sadly I haven't played 40k in at least 2 years, so I'm not so sure about my ability to contribute.
Sounds awesome, what forum-service would wee use?
>>20045797You didn't have the tools for actually doing it gathering dust among your old White Dwarf collection. seriously, those old copies around the 300 mark are real gems, a far cry from the clusterfuck WD is today.
>>20045826The first WD I got myself was nr 300. I have the world map framed on my wall. But yeah. I know the LGS of my town has a Warhammer night, but I've never attended.
>>20045815I was hoping one of you /tg/ers would have a clue. my knowledge of forums is sadly limited. but i could learn on the job!
This could be the next Chapter Master, but with far less waiting if we get shit done
Hmm, timing this right the Chaos Players can test their shiny new Codex in this campaign.works for me
IG dude is down for this. the Fate of Cadia is good motivation to get my infantry built and painted.
>>20045776There's always vassal? Have they updated themselves to 6th Ed standard yet?
Figure this might be relevant.
OP, I like your idea. lets see if /tg/ can get behind this.
>>20046290I always loved how absolutely little attention was paid to that one Titan division over the years.I love my WD's from this era btw, far better in quality than what GW puts out today or five years back.
Go for it OP.
damn you OP, makes me want to throw together traitor guard for this. get that forum link, plzkthnxbai.
If it is for tg we need tg chapters. Angry marine and Knight inductor codexes should be declaired legal for this contest. Unless those are horribly broken.
>>20046290> independant strike groups : 4I bet my shirt those one are Rogue Traders seeking some profit out of this mess.
The might of Fenris stands ready. Get the forum going so I can start playing games for this.
Wake up in the morning, and find this. Why does there seem to be such little enthusiasm? Can anyone suggest any simple forum system I can use for thie project, my internet skills are shite, and if this is going to go anywhere (and trust me, it will with me at the helm) I will need something to keep you interested.Anyone out there have any ideas for running this campaign? how about a scan of the old map?
I know its not much but I too would love to see this happen. I've sold almost all my CSM, all I have left are a couple Khornate and Slaaneshi Bikers and a few random models. I can't even field a legal army anymore (though there's hoping that if the new Codex turns out good I might just be able to).In the meantime, have some Chaos.
Mite b cool, though I can't get enough people together myself until college starts againyou may want to start then, I'm thinking a lot of people will drop out/in around that time
...I have to put my berzerkers into the usb port or I have to stuff the modem with them?
Right, while /tg/s been down, I've been hard at work seeking out a nice forum host, and working out what to do, and I've done it.Now I need two things from you /tg/, to prove thast you're interested in this. I need a Forum name, and i need a logo and a favicon. give me those, and the forum will be up by tomorrow, and we can start mustering. For theatrics, if this works out I want the campaign to start, appropriately enough, on Monday 13th August, giving me a few weeks to get everything sorted out and enough people registered.
Dammit /tg/, show some interest
>>20050630The whole site was just down.Calm down.
Quick questions1) Are Necrons Order or Destruction?2) Is there a way to tie BFG games into the campaign?
the Complete ListForces of OrderSpace Marines (all Variants)Imperial GuardGrey KnightsSisters of BattleEldarTau (can't recreat the third sphere, so the Space Communists are going to have to help here instead)DisorderChaosDark EldarTyranidsOrksNecronsHovever, forces of Order can fight each other, one side 'countiong as' disorder. so Necrons vs Chaos, with Necrons as 'order' and so on.I think of almost everything!
BFG can esily be fitted in, though in an abstract way. Still have to think about it.Any more Questions?
Is the intention vassal games? While I'm sure a number of fa/tg/uys know each other in person, there probably isn't enough active members with such a relationship that also play 40k and are willing to participate, so Vassal 40k is pretty much a must.If the intention is a fluffy campaign, will lists be regulated (for example, a committee that will investigate claims of cheese lists blowing through the opposition)?
Oh good. This thing's still alive. I left it open for later since it was stupid early and I needed to get some sleep. There are a bunch of free boards out there. The usual trade off is advertisement. Alternatively, we could take this to another level and use that RPG board -I forget the name at the moment. I know someone who plunked down for a membership that gave additional GM tools. Lemme ask him his take on it. I can totally see running some Dark Heresy (family) series stuff in the background while we run Eye of Terror /tg/ style. I remember they did BFG along with this among other things. Hell. We could probably pick Eye of Terror apart and make our own sector even.
If /tg/ is able to actually get this up and running I know that everyone at my shop would dive into it face first. Just the idea of redoing the eye of terror is giving me massive nerd boners.
My plan is that neckbeards fight their battles (physical, Vassal, whatever) and post the results (with pictures of the battle/vassal screencaps to prevent cheats just saying 'I fought this battle and won it by this much' without actually doing that' and making it unfair for those actually taking the time to fight it out) on the forum. at the end of the week, I work out the results of all these battles and post the percentage shifts (how much a planet has fallen to Chaos) and an after action report of the situation at the end of that week.At least, that was my idea.
>>20050743 >BFGThe EoT campaign as run by GW did incorporate BFG. It was all divided into regions and they had special scenarios run from time to time. We had some guys come over from GW to the LGS to run some games and there were a few tables with linked events going.ie: One table/map was in orbit where a chaos ship was delivering orbital strikes onto the tables/maps below and every turn or so a shot could be called down. At the same time, the table I was on, we had to hold a line from traitor guard (I was playing loyalist IG) -if we won, reinforcements could arrive on another table where marines and sisters were holding out. If the table with the chaos ship was won by the Imperium, the bombardments could stop...
>>20050887This is what I love about you /tg/. the creativity flows, and shit gets done.I don't know if i can replicate that, but i should try.
>>20050759I don't think the lists will need to be regulated. If it is clear to both players that the game is a part of this campaign they should also be able to agree to the level of competitiveness. >>20050863Pictures will have to be a must or there will be nothing stopping "that guy" from going on the forum every day going on about how he crushed everyone he played that day and giving his side a huge boost.
>>20050743>>20050887If you involve BFG into it, and want to. The Fathers love and the rest of my plague fleet will be at your disposal. I'd reccomend Vassal as an alternative.as for the forum name"Eye of Teegee campaign"?
>>20050801>>20050887 To add to this, each GW store were given cards that they could play once that would give them a story element that would provide an edge. It was up to them when they should use it but they could only use it once. That thing I mentioned earlier. It was Obsidian Portal. I don't know if the tools they offer would be of any use to us for this though, so take that with a grain of salt or whatever.
>>20050929If no-one else disagrees, we have our name. Now, as for the forum, i'm leaning towards using freeforums (Chapter Master use it for their forum) as the basis. Is it worth it?>>20047382>>20050927I'm cool with that. hell, I'd love to see the Angry Marines and Knights Inductor, as well as the Tempus Fugitives Lost and Damned, and Forgeworld Lists. Anything goes!
>>20051014Those cards came with WD 291, and I have them right here with me. I'll scan them, and put them up so they can be used during the Campaign.
ooo this sounds interesting~~i meanWWAAAGGGGHHHH
Heres a question would people be up for including optional set rules for the various races that people would be required to announce before the game is played (if blind lists are done at you're store bring 2 one with and one without the rule in play).Simple things taken from the fluff/ new rulebookfor example Guard can bring x number of points of unupgraded defences (upgrades part of regular points) but with a downside of the opponent getting first turn with guard deploying first. or something like the nids getting the reinforcement rule from the rulebook (all troop choices automatically enter reserve after destruction) but at the cost of the base list point for an unending horde feel.
>>20050917 Well you don't have to go it alone. I think certain scenarios and evens can be written in and such but the idea might need to be voted on and it definitely relies on everyone being reasonable -and try not to get butthurt. Data would need to be centralized and then reports made on a regular basis to keep the story and energy going. We'd need a crew for that of course... Anyway, for the GW thing, they had a website where people checked in their battle reports. They registered and then made their reports. Every report had to be confirmed by the loser as well as the winner, IIRC. There was a little bit of an honor system involved of course.>bigass undertaking
>>20045888I knows how 2 forums
>>20051089I never thought how bigarse until this morning, but I am now comitted to this. for /tg/, and for 40k, i will carry this out. though helpers will be appreciated, once we have a forum up.>>20051135my good man
>>20050927 I guess we probably won't have the weight of numbers on our side as compared to GW's set up. A pic with a scrap of paper would be cool. Can be taken with a phone camera even -or if online a printscreen and a million hours in MSPaint. Still, the limitation is there for some players. I think it would be kind of neat if we can involve some of the players from the RPG side of things (Fantasy Flight stuff) but I'm not sure how the pacing will work out. Maybe if the scenarios are built to have a longer running influence on things? Hell. Even Necromorkaheim (or whatever) and Inquisitor but we'd need people to step up and help take care of all these elements. A site we could gather at and organize would be good for starters though
Would VASSAL games be considered legitimate for the purpose of this campaignor are we still sperglords about unpainted minis?
>>20051218Many of my minis are unpainted, and I still use them.I see no problem (apart from butthurt fa/tg/uys)
>>20051218 I'm all for Vassal usage, personally. One thing I wonder about is if we're free to break from existing fluff that was written post-EoT? It would be easy to reskin the campaign and say it was a giant warp storm in some area of space or another and use everything exactly like EoT.
>>20051283What fluff post EoT? They've retconed it out of existance.
>>20051300 What? Seriously? When did that happen? Not sure if full of shit
>>20051283I dislike the Eldar, but I think that's cool as hell.
>>20050508>I need a Forum name, and i need a logo and a favicon. If you can get me a Forum Name, I can get you a logo. I'm not sure what a favicon is though.
>>20051431Thanks to this guy >>20050929 we're the Eye of Teegee campaign. I was hoping to photoshop the old eye of terror banner if i could find it.Now, we needs us a forum. is http://www.freeforums.org/ acceptable, and how to you use/manage it?
>>20051465Okay. I'll see about getting an icon to you guys in a few ticks. You want it to look kinda like the old EoT title? I'm pretty sure I have the stuff somewhere but Google might work too. Any idea on banner size? I might just use something a little bigger than the banner ad at the top of /tg/ I'm not entirely sure how to use the board but it shouldn't be too hard? You probably will need to assign officers and such at some point -also start organizing how the campaigns are going to be run.
we're getting shit done here!
After an hour of work, I have come to a stark conclusion.I am useless at trying to create a forum. Now i need a noble anaon, who can create it, and give me a link and some exec access or something. I can manage the pen and paper side, but the web side is sadly bejond me.I'm not giving up, but i need your help.
>>20051691Can't help with forums, But I can offer a bump
>>20051329In the real EoT campaign, Chaos won. They controlled Cadia and the region surrounding the gate. Essentially, they could cause the eye to grow uncontrollably if the pylons were destroyed.GW said screw that, and the retcon is that the planet is engulfed in a siege that won't end blah blah blah nothing gets done in the timeline. The chaos players were organized online and ruthless with game plans. The side of good, were not and suffered defeat after defeat due to this.GW gaming and fluff just ain't what it used to be... The world campaigns (and other articles) in WD's used to be rich and delicious bits full of fluff or crunch as you desired.
>>20051849what he said
>>20051691Leave an email address, AIM, or Skype name and I'll set you up something.
Hold on to your butts, /tg/. Thanks to my fellow Writefags, our forum is almost operational, using freeforums. Link as soon as I can get this thing to work.
>>20051849 If I remember right, it wasn't a complete victory for Chaos but they did have an edge over the Imperium. Official ruling (probably meant to appease everyone to some small degree and keep the machine churning) included the Tau gaining a lot of ground, and Cadia itself still in the Imperium hands with a narrow corridor connecting it to the outside world. Fluff still exists for the likes of Creed and, IIR, the destruction of one of a blackstone fortress. Not too sure how much (or if) they retconned so much as underplay results and then write some whitewashed material.
>>20052299THE SPIRITUAL LIEGE!!! It was his doing!
>>20052348Those are Adeptus Arbites, you half-wit.
Forum Beta's nearly done. All I need is a header. some anon promised, let's see if he delivers.
>>20052415 Working on it. Trying to get it close to the text as it appears in your opening image.
>>20052299The official ruling did not reflect the degree of ground won by Chaos to any decent amount, as you can see from the very static fluff atm.The Tau won a great deal of ground for multiple reasons. One is that this was not an edition that saw them at their weakest to date (5th held that "honor") and they were, in fact, quite competitive at the time. Two, some losses (depending on the alleged claims) were dumped in their sector by all factions, hence it looked like they were steamrolling along.
Heres hoping Da Green Krusade! lodges itself firmly in the tau empire's rectum this time round..phht! like orks ever do what you want them to.
>>20052476 Alright. I did it kinda quickish. Just tracked down a font that was close to it and made some beveling. I'll make a few adjustments on the metallic look and post again. I kept the background transparent unless you guys really want me to put something in there.
>>20052666That is Brilliant. Thankyou Anon. I use it with pride
Update, the Forum is nearly ready. It should be fully operational within a few hours. many thanks to Fuogo, for creating the forum.

>>20053167Bumping for this. come on /tg/ spread the love.
Why don't we make the games here on the board?
>>20053535There's a lot of administration involved. It doesn't preclude having threads here, but the guys running games will need a place to coordinate that'll stay around longer than a thread here will.
What edition rules are we going to use for this again? >inb4 lashes everywhere
>>20053633Rogue Trader only.
>>20053845Yeah, if only we all had the Rogue Trader Rules...6th Edition all the way!
A final update before bed. here is the incomplete skeleton of our forum.http://eot.grognarnia.org/Please do not join up or start posting until it's complete. this is just a way to show ypu that i am actually getting shit done. More work will be done on it come the morning. In the meantime, keep this thread alive, and share ideas for the Campaign. every little helps.
Forum is bookmarked, I'm gonna try to get some friends in on this.
>>20054152I'll bring this to the attention of my LGS.

>>20054206>Open file with nagash.exe
>>20046290I love how when most Space marine chapters were committing at least half to all their companies, Smurfs sent a single honour company.
>>20054483They were kind of all the way across the galaxy at the time it started. That's probably all the Ultramarines in the entire segmentum at the time.
>>20054483Well they are on the opposite side of the galaxy.
>>20054511>>20054525Should have checked the galaxy map. I stand corrected.
So are we going to be integrating things on a level of scale? Because here's how I see it>Battlefleet Gothic>Epic>Warhammer 40k>Rogue Trader>Multiplayer games of Space Marine>Black Crusade>Deathwatch>Dark HeresyAnd basically integrating the events of all of these into one giant ball of game?
>>20054653Probably depends on who joins up. Getting too ambitious is the downfall of many a /tg/ project.
>>20054682Maybe we could just have one Black Crusade campaign going on as a side story to the main game?
>>20054730Are you volunteering to run it? If not, don't volunteer other people's time for them.
>>20054738I'm just juggling suggestion and brainstorming. No way could I run BC, I'm a terrible GM.
>>20054759Fair enough. I'm planning on organizing a fiction wiki where people can detail their units and specific units that perform heroic deeds.
I'd like to see a RPG element to this campaign, don't think there was one in the GW campaign.
>>20054853 Yeah, no it wasn't. It was waaay before Dark Heresy.
>>20055054 I should add that I'd like to see an RPG element to the campaign as well. Maybe Necromunda too
>>20054653This isn't such a terrible idea. It would make everything more accessible to anon.Unless we want to avoid that, in which case fuck the casuals.
>>20050863Wouldn't it be hard to balance with the codex creep, netlisting and all of that? That aside, I am totally down.
>>20055054You could use Inquisitor at the time though. I think I've got a Fanatic magazine with details about it. You could have a small Dark Heresy campaign that follows the same kind of rules. Or perhaps several, if we had a couple of GMs willing to work together and run multiple games as part of the same overriding plot.
>>20055182Something of Interest regarding that.http://web.archive.org/web/20040929164855/http://oz.games-workshop.com/games/40k/eyeofterror/scenarios/INQweek1.htmThere's tons of Eye of Terror stuff there, we can mine it for this campaign.
Power difference between chaos faction and imperial faction is great. No 3.5 codex to rely on.
>>20055301It balances out with the new Chaos codex due during the campaign, and Necrons on disorder's side as well.
nudging before I head off to sleep
>>20055062>>20055095Do you guys want me to create an RPG board, then? Its doable.
>>20055696 Naw, bro, we got one being set up. it's not quite ready yet though. See:>>20054152 Thanks for offering. We're gonna need help with getting things set up though, so bookmark the forum and stay tuned, I guess?
>>20055719>Naw, bro, we got one being set up. it's not quite ready yet thoughCheck the Board Rules post on said board. I'm the administrator of grognarnia.
>>20055719 Actually, some discussion about game elements would be good. Things still need to be hammered out (no pun intended) There's talk about Dark Heresy and all its spinoffs being incorporated into the campaign. Provided there's enough interested and people.
>>20055733RP category added.
>>20055723 Oh. I misread that. Carry on then.
I should be asleep now, but Insomnia's got me, so I shall answer questions and offer up ideas, in the hope it will make me sleepy.I for one would love to see RP games included, with a neffect on the overall campaign. for example, a Deathwatch mission to destoy a hulk carrying troops to Malin's Reach, with the sucess or faliure represented in the next weeks missions (in said example, sucsess would mean Chaos would have 100 less points for missions on Malins reach, i.e a 1500 point match chaos would only have 1400 points to spend)
>>20055757Might be cool to do stuff like Inquisitor skirmishes, too, with win/loss influencing minor campaign details.
Another question was whether we use current gen rules, or EoT era rules.I say we use current edition rules (so all can get involved), with some fa/tg/uy updating the 13th Company and Ulthwe Strike force for 6th, and using the Tempus Fugitives rules for the Lost and the Damned.
The last thing I want this campaign to become is too complex. remember, it's one person doing all the mechanics, calculations and so on, and if i get overloaded, the pacing of the campaign suffers.nevertheless, i agree with this scale >>20054653, with 40k games as the main, and all the others as icing on the cake. a giant ball of a campaign it will be, but that is what /tg/ expects, and what I hope to deliver.any Ideas on how to make this scale work, add them in. I'll stick around until sleep finally takes me.
>>20055772I'd very much like to be part of the Ulthwé strike force update team, as I'm intending to take part as an eldarbro.
>>20055807>The last thing I want this campaign to become is too complex. As long as it wasn't a long term thing, I could chip in to run some FFG or such one shots. I could just provide you logs and gamewriteups if you pre-determined the consequences.
well, this truly is it /tg/. see you all in the morning for (nospoilersontg)the new Warhammer High thread (nospoilersontg).I'll see all your ideas and suggestions then. until then, keep her going.
My ideas off the top of my head>Battlefleet Gothic-Fleet effects: Allows resupply/reinforcement/orbital bombardment in other systems. Not sure exactly yet.-If Chaos does considerably well they get to destroy a planet or two with 'Planet Killer'.-Possible Global focus that points are earned towards: Blackstone fortress control, with forces of order trying to regain the pair lost during the 12th black crusade.>Epic (Not versed in this system so not sure)Epic effects: Perhaps the 40k people fight over localized obj/special locations while Epic players are fighting over territory control. Opens up new areas for 40k players to fight over.>Warhammer 40k-Normal games, push territory but less so that Epic. More focus on achieving the critical objectives that provide 'points' for the campaign. >Rogue Trader-Run either as 'military' style where the Rogue Traders are having direct impacts on the battlefield, providing bonuses to 'points' earned in normal battles or space swashbuckling where they are hunting down information of Blackstone fortresses for the Imperium or some other 'mysterious' device to help turn the tide for the imperium.>Multiplayer games of Space Marine-Wins provide limited points (maybe 1 point per map win) due to the small scale and speed at which they are played.>Black CrusadeNot sure, could go lots of ways.>DeathwatchKill Team hunt for the 'Voice of the Emperor' cult leader that appeared on Lelithar amidst the chaos of the Plague of Unbelief.>Dark Heresy-Investigation into disease cults to find a cure to spreading pestilence to combat the Plague of Unbelief and its plague zombies?
>>20055807>any Ideas on how to make this scale work, add them in. I'll stick around until sleep finally takes me./v/ideogames could be filler for people to play while they wait for their actual games, and have results recorded but not count towards the overall result of the campaign.
>>20056285>Rogue TraderAnother thoughts, Trying to find the Black Library and stumbling upon the Ahriman/Eldar, banding together to fight off Ahriman.
>>20056285Since I only know and play Bfg.The planet killer is acually statted, and horrendously dangerous, giving chaos the option of bringing one for specific exterminatus scenarios could be one thing. However, there is only one planet killer, and if its destroyed (no mean feat) there should be a huge blow to the chaos side (Huge risk, Huge reward kind of thing)Same with blackstone fortresse...Aw why the hell not.Ahriman's Aide, if you need someone to take charge/supervise the Bfg portion of this little endevour, I'll volounteer
You people are awesome and should feel awesome. Have some cookies.
It seems some people believe that they don't play often enough to join this. I don't really believe it to be an issue for such things as battles though, since a single battle can be played and reported without having to play the entire campaign. It's been done in the original and I believe it can be done here. What might be shaky is if any longer termed RPGs stall or die -but people can be replaced I guess. Most of those games probably should be fairly short and it would be nice if at least some of them were somehow linked.
>>20060214I wonder if RPG one-shots could be based around Event Cards? If not using the event cards as the basis for a session, but with the events of a game giving Order or Disorder a boost like an event card would. I don't have a copy of the WD with the events in them to hand, so I can't see how viable that would be.With the RPGs, it's also worth bearing in mind that the Imperial factions will probably have a bit of an advantage, given that Black Crusade is the only one officially for the forces of Disorder.
>>20060425I'm not entirely sure how glorious leader wants to handle that, but I doubt it'd be a PVP situation where that would matter.
>>20060425>>20060451 How about RPG one shots where the prize are special event cards?
>>20060573Not a terrible idea.
>>20060425>>20060451I'd rather say that a bigger problem is the fact that the 40k games are human centered, the orkz and kroot got a very small mentioning. But a proper Eldar/necron/Tau/Deldar oneshot would require some homebrewing...Then again, we seem to be talking about oneshots, which makes homebrewing characters so much easier
>>20060797I imagine they wouldn't necessarily be focused on that element, but more something played as a side story that influences the overall campaign. You wouldn't automatically be "playing your army."
>>20060797 The Orks have been done and I know they have stats for Eldar equipment. I can't say I like where the new Necron fluff went, so I'm not going to talk about them. Someone ran a game with Tau a while back. I imagine it shouldn't be terribly hard to a game of that either. Kroot, I'm not sure if the unaligned ones play into the big picture but I don't see why someone can't run a game to make things interesting.
>>20060573No offense, but that is one of the single worst fucking 'true-scale' conversions I've ever fucking seen. It's painted well, don't get me wrong. But holy crap he has to be like 14' tall!
>>20060573That was more or less what I thought. >>20060451It wasn't really about PVP, it was more that if each RPG game played has an effect on the campaign as a whole, the Imperial side could have a bit of an advantage because two of the four available RPGs are explicitly about thwarting the forces of Disorder. Black Crusade is the only one for the other side, so even if only one game of each is played, they still have a bit of an advantage. Just something to think about really. >>20060797Also this. Orks and Kroot should be reasonably easy to add based on Rogue Trader, but Eldar will be more tricky. Tau were off on the other side of the galaxy and weren't really involved in the conflict proper, so that's one less problem to work out.
>>20060848Ofcourse not, but you gotta agree that it would add some character if the orkish side had a "Krakk team uv dead sneaky speciulistz" ta zog da beakiez space-gunz befora da rokz begins ta dropp rather then "Chaos sends heretics to make way for the ork invasion".
>>20060893>Black Crusade is the only one for the other sideI mean, I guess! Its not like Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader haven't published rules for having sorcery or information running antagonist campaigns.
>>20060916Oh absolutely, I'm just saying the default for both are pro-Imperium, even if they might use radical methods to do it, which could lead to an imbalance.
>>20061000They're blank slates. You can do whatever you want with them. Anyway, since I'm the only one offering to actually run them, you may not even have to worry.
>>20060893>>20060916 You guys need to get out of the box more often. The mechanics are there and stats can be found or made up fairly easily. I ran IG games when DH first came out, and someone I know ran Space Marine games by the second supplement for DH.
>>20061048>You guys need to get out of the box more often. The problem is that inserting a bunch of homebrew into a larger organized play tapestry can lead to cries of favoritism or imbalance. That said, my post that you quoted was specifically saying the games had already laid out information on using them in ways the corebooks didn't indicate.
I found these, they might be helpfulhttp://web.archive.org/web/20031015103118/http://hipcat.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.htmThis is an archive of a site with results, analysis and commentary.http://www.scribd.com/doc/65183273/Eye-of-TerrorThis seems to be a compilation of the week-by-week newsletters, along with the event cards that were released each week.. The hyperlinks all seem to link back to webarchive pages, but not all of them work.
>>20061084 I didn't quote you but I did address you. Anyway, favoritism all depends on the games being run and whether those games are approached with an even hand. Running a one shot with Orks where there are no official player rules for Orks might lead to cries of favoritism but then people can just as easily say that Space Marines are OP and can steam roll a bunch of back water cultists. That and cries of -4 Str from the peanut gallery.

>>20061192Right, but you can have player-vs-the world imbalance. If homebrew Ork rules lead to the Orks steamrolling what would otherwise be an easy scenario, that's not really fair when its influencing the overall tapestry. Its different if its your home game and you're just having fun. My personal games have mountains of homebrew content, but I wouldn't inject that into this.
>>20061228>St Josmane’s Hope I vaguely remember that planet was reduced to an asteroid field or somesuch during the original campaign.
>>20061228Beautifull mate, mind if I offered an idea?/tg/ aint the quickest nor the best way to keep a conversation going (and its hard to gauge the amount of interested people)So how about partly moving to a room on the irc? >>20061282>and easily save logs for laterhttp://archive.foolz.us
>>20061288my other points are still valid, its hellova lot easier to hold a conversation in realtime then in a forum like /tg/
>>20061238 So are you voting against the running of RP games for factions without official player creation guidelines?
>>20061276It fell to Chaos, and the Imperium were offered a chance to exterminatus it. they took it. I can do similar things, if a planet is too far gone and not strategically worth it, the players can petition me to Exterminatus it, and after a poll vote we can destroy a planet or two.
>>20061336If the games are going to impact how the overall campaign goes, then yes. You don't have to tell direct stories with the one shots (nor would I advise we do) - you can easily do a story about hive gangers trying to open a portal in an urban area rather than a story directly about chaos forces, for example. Or a story about gue'vesa troops sent to infiltrate somewhere to make way for the Tau.
>>20061282>>20061316Don't know how to make it work, but colour me interested. I'll see what we can do.
>>20061346It wasn't a petition, the developers decided to do it on their own. It was in the round-up WD issue at the end of the campaign, I think, they talked about how big a decision it was because it impacted the rolling successes for the Forces of Disorder.
This sounds awesome, but I have 40k shit nor people to play with. How can I go about joining in some way?
>>20061428There was talk of running VASSAL games online. Bookmark the forum and keep an eye on developments.
>>20061397I'm the developer here, so any decisions like that rest with me. besides, I like the idea of an exterminatus petition if all goes to hell in a handbasket (fits /tg/ well).Of course, this would only happen if there was no hope of salvation for that planet, and consensus amoung the forces of Order/Disorder (Planet Killer).
>>20061397 It was discussed heavily on forums when the event was posted on the campaign site I think. At least people were talking about it before the WD mags hit the stands.

>>20061545>don't join until it's complete. There's nothing wrong with joining before then, bro.
Could I get an exact, serious answer about which edition of the game we are using? I honestly do not believe we are using the Rogue Trader rules. If we use an edition before 5th, which Necron codex will be involved? I can play either, I just want to know now.

How well is the Knights Inductor codex going so far, anyways? What I read about it said it's troops are basically in planning stage right now.Yes, I really like the idea of being overpowered simply by being reasonable.I don't play to curbstomp, though.
I just realised the one thing we need desperately, a copy of the big Eye of Terror Map with all the planets and sectors on it.Deliver, Anon, so we can move forward.
>>20061711Meh, if you want a program for making hexmaps. Let me know
This map, only a lot bigger. I can use it to track who's winning where, and let you see visually what's happening around the eye.
>>20061795Just asking to MAKE SURE.Have you used google reverse image searchor tineye.com ?

>>20062021Agree with this. I'm not sure the poster was ever scanned and holding out for one is silly. All the information is in Codex Eye of Terror anyway, it'd be easy enough to duplicate on a map.
Sweet Jesus, my body is so ready it hurts.
This is the biggest thing /tg/ has done in a long time. This thread should be archived for great justice
>>20062522Already is, over on archive.foolz.us
Is there a central place that has /tg/ 40k setting canon easily accessible?I really want to see our 'world' in full.
>>20062669http://1d4chan.org/wiki//tg/_40,000Best we have, to my knowledge.
I fought last time around, and I'll fight again. the Gundam Assault Guard are ready!
I might be able to make a copy of the Eye of Terror poster I have, but it's at my parents' place, so I wouldn't be able to get to it until during the week.As an FFG lead playtester (I'm in many book credits) and a participant of the original campaign, I'll help if I can, OP!
>>20064002Just want to ask, how do you become an official (lead) playtester?
>>20064171It helped being admin of the largest Dark Heresy fansite at the time - Basically just asked after conducting an IRC interview with Sam Stewart and Ross Watson (who's now left FFG), and they took me and my gaming group on. Been doing it for about... 3 years now (since Rogue Trader was released), and my name is in at least 15 of the 40k products, I believe.
Bumping for glory.
I like the idea of adding a RPG element to it, means all 40k fans, even those with no army can get involved
>>20066648Even with no physical army, you can make one in Vassal. Hopefully, version 6 will be out in time.
Browsed /rs/, and found some old White Dwarves from the EoT era. plenty of stuff in them. 282 is the best one.
I have some ideas for you, but tea first.
>>20067822I have that one sitting next to me. Came with a poster/map and a Grey Nights miniature if I recall.
>>20068489Does it have the map OP is hunting for?
>>20068489Knights*, fuck me.
>>20068552It has a smaller one that I could probably scan and blow up to usable quality. I think I probably lost the big one long ago.I'll post it up here in a little while.
Ok everyone, time for a status update. We have a forum, which while incomplete is operational, and Aslan is working on it on and off, adding the header did. We also have anons hunting for the map we need to complete the system, and if any of the Event cards are floating out there, post them as well. I have a working system for converting battles into percentage shifts, which will be the driving force behind the campaign, allowing your battles to determine if a planet falls to Chaos or not. With 40k more or less covered, it’s time to work out how to integrate the other systems, and allow them to also have a part to play in the 13th Black Crusade. An Anon gave us a few ideas, which I’ll elaborate on.
>Battlefleet Gothic- The map is split into Sectors (Agripinaa Sector, Cadian Sector, etc), so each sector could be fought over in the same was as each planet. Control of each sector in space allows resupply/reinforcement/orbital bombardment in the other systems in the subsequent week (single free orbital bombardment in 40k/apoc games, +1 to reserves, ETC. this will only affect 40k, Apoc and Epic games)>Epic/Apoc-Epic, as a rare game will provide large scale territory shifts, using the same Mechanism as the 40K games for determining percentage shift, but with a greater effect on overall control than normal 40k Games. Apoc will use the same rule, but with some tweaks (if you fight an Apoc game, there should be some benefit to you dragging all those models out.)>Warhammer 40k-Normal games, push territory but less so that Epic. The bread and butter of the campaign, this will form the bulk of the games and the bulk of the action. Now I am unfamiliar with RPGs, so hoping someone here is willing to help integrate them into the campaign. My previous idea for RPG scenarios giving benefits to games in certain planets or sectors is workable, but will need some tweaking and adaption to ensure it’s not unbalanced.
Forum rules say that battle reporting should include victory points- what system? The 3rd edition rules, which I guess the EoT system was written for, awarded victory points by about a hundred per objective, now we have kill points and whatever. My group plays second edition, which awards one victory point for most secondary accomplishments and more for the primary one. I'm sure an approximation can be worked out, but what kind of range are we looking for here- 1-10 or 100-10,000?
>>20068646Glad to see my ideas were helpful. I'll keep ruminating on the RPG's
>>20068617How are you guys going to handle reporting on battles?
>>20068670100-1000. If someone can convert the 3rd Edition tables to 6th, we can use that as a guide.
>>20068697Battles will be posted on the Forum, with pictures or Vassal images (to prevent cheating).Clunky, but workable.
>>20068557http://imgur.com/a/zpy1dFirst map, I have a higher resolution one that I can upload somewhere if needed. Not sure if this was the one people were after though.
>>20068786And second. That's all I could find in the WD issue.
>>20068786>>20068795Many thanks Anon.
I'm joining the campaign, for the sake of TL;DR can you guys post what the Idea is for this Eo/TG/ campaign? I'm going to get my friends involved in my neighborhood.
>>20068721Um, looks pretty much like you'd be okay just multiplying 6th ed VPs by 100. You can't convert directly, but that would get in the ballpark. 3rd edition scenarios are often simple win/lose without VPs - not sure how the original campaign handled that - and VP potential increases with the size of the armies, because you get the points of each unit you wipe out or half the points of each unit you bring to half strength. Whereas 6th edition VPs pretty much max out unless you take multiple detachments. Second Edition VPs are basically kill points plus objective VPs.Assuming the campaign gets a sufficient number of results, it shouldn't really matter too much. Whatever VP system you use, multiply or divide until you have 100s as your building blocks, and it will be about fine.If we wanted a more precise system, though, we could have the players tally up the maximum possible VPs for their scenario, whatever the scenario and whatever VP system, and find the percentage they accomplished, then multiply that by 10 or so to get a 10-1000 range.
Ahriman, question here! I heard you approved of the emperor's nightmares in the campaign. I wondered if I could chime in with my Inquisition update based on the older codex rather than the new Silver Marines codex? (Of course this would have to be with opponents approval, wouldn't want to force stuff like that on the unwilling.)
>>20068893If you have your opponent's permission, and it's balanced, go right ahead. this is a /tg/ project, almost anything goes.
We endeavour in the darkness of battle who cannot win the fight. The time for peace is over and now it is time to die. It is the age of war and our last days must be lived amidst the sound of our own destruction.+++Now the great wheel of human existence turns almost full circle. From the cradle of the Earth it has turned through vast epochs of time. Once in the light of the sun it turned as civilizations rose and fell and were forgotten. In the light of the stars knowledge blossomed and withered whilst the wheel span on. Now the great wheel of human existence, almost complete, turns again as it approaches a time of dying and the moment of inhuman birth.+++Abhor the Night, it is the Light that Endures!
Bring fire and bring shell and heap all upon the pyre. With flame and gun we shall make an end to the withered husk that is human life. And in the blazing furnace of battle we shall forge anew the iron will of a yet stronger race.+++As wriggling maggots upon a rotted corpse they glut themselves upon the rank flesh that is the Earth. Such is mankind, blind and ignorant to a dying world, nought but the writhing worm that mires itself in the corruption of its own progenitors. They who feast today do so in ignorance of their mortality. For tomorrow they must die or change, and, if changing, then forever open their eyes to the dark hunger of eternal life.+++Let the Flames of Battle Consume Us!
What foes are we to meet in battle that we have not vanquished in the shadows of the human soul? What Daemons scream that have not cried to us from the dark places of the mind? What fear have we of death who know there is immortality in the great and noble deeds of men?+++As each warrior dies and is laid upon the mighty altar of battle, with toll of bell and scratch of quill we shall count his days in death as in life.
This time my Victory will be total. Cadia shall burn!(and I'll recover my arms into the bargain)

>>20070571Hm. The ideas that were stated previously were pretty good.A mission to take out a caravan or similar results in a reduction of max points for the opposing side when fighting in that area.Other things no other format can really do:ReconAssassinationDiplomancyAlso, these can run congruent to each other.EG: KI try diplomacy and fail, leading to a game of 40kDuring which the KI send out scouts to check off board areas.Just an idea I came up with.Which really makes sense for the Reasonable Marines. And the different parts don't have to be played in realtime congruent. (though that would make things fun and interesting)
I ain't slept for 32 hours, since the Forum came online. keep me bumped, and shower me with ideas, pledges, and more. this is /tg/, and we get shit done.

And looking at those funny pylons.Could use Only War to have various squads of the Last Chancers hunting the Voice, too, since he seems mostly to use human minions.Dark Heresy would be perfect for agents of the Imperium coordinating an Imperial resistance on planets where control is low.
>>20075759Oh, and patriotic Rogue Traders buying off Orkish mercenaries at higher prices than the Chaos Marines are willing to pay, things like that. And then saving their new Orkish armies for later, profitable, personal use, of course.Man, tons of possibilities.
