So after a 4chan failure on sunday, a week of hell at work, and a minor incident involving a fire, its GAME OF THRONES QUEST! It is our tenth thread, so everyone take a drink.... And of course, call the banners. Let's fucking do this.
Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19954516/
Self-Destructing Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/19959122/

Heading downstairs, you make the great hall as dinner is being served. There is a seat at the high table for you, and you take it as Paxter calls a servant to fill your cup with wine. The meal is a much more relaxed affair than last night, with a simpler course selection and less pomp. However, the flaky fried cod, sweet mashed turnips, and roasted boar ribs are still just as delicious.

Afterwards, the slowly emptying hall finds you sitting near Lord Rowan and his much, much younger wife. He is a tall, thin man with hard eyes. Searching your brain, you remember what Ben told you of Rowan lands. They are fertile, yet hilly with many rocks and small streams. Because of this, many of his smallfolk are herdsmen who tend to goats and sheep. They produce the finest linens in the Arbor, and fish the seas for herring, tuna, cod, seals, smelt, and anchovies. The deep bays on that part of the island also have the finest, fattest eels which the Rowanese have traditionally used in rich wedding dishes for hundreds of years.

The man turns to you. "So you are the young riverlander that Lord paxter is so taken with? It is good to finally meet you, ser. I have heard you aquitted yourself spectacularly on the field, and everyone heard your testimony today at the trial... I am surprised you are so busy. Are your lands so well ordered that you can dash around the Arbor like a braavo? If only I was blessed with such talented help."

FUCK YEAH FINALLY!
>>
Awwww yeah, House Karban in the house.

>>20060805
"I am considered a lucky man, my lord. Truly, most of my accomplishments can be traced back to those who serve me."
>>
Oh my god. I thought you were gone, I was so scared this quest would just vanish and I would be bored forever
>>
Fuck yeah, GoT Quest.

What was the incident with the fire?

>>20060805
I spend little time idle, I can almost always find some matter or another that draws my attention.

As for the ordering of my lands, I have placed a great amount of effort into finding loyal and talented help so that on occasion I can as you put it "dash around like a braavo" and not worry about my affairs at home knowing they are in good hands. I find the single greatest resource one can ever find to be loyal and talented men.
>>
>>20060805 Cont.

You take a measure of the man. He is maybe five and forty, with immaculate dress. His doublet is quartered in his house's colors, the brilliant yellow and deep red bringing out the few strands of golden hair that haven't begun to turn a pale grey. He wears a necklace of golden coils that is neither flashy nor overly humble, the fine polish of it catching the light from the dozen hearths in the hall. His face is stern, yet you can see a bit of curiosity.

His wife, on the other hand, is young and beautiful. She is maybe nineteen, with pale skin and brilliant blue eyes. She wears a dress of deep crimson, just a shade off from the color of her husband's doublet, with brilliant stitching of thread-of-gold. Her hair, a golden brown that reminds you of honey, cascades over her shoulders in a mass of curls... She has a look, but you cannot place it. Definitely mainland.

On tuesday, I figured to get on and pay you all back for the ridiculousness of sunday night. Instead, I nearly set my kitchen on fire. So i figured it was probably just a good idea to drink a few and head to bed. If i couldn't make chicken, I didn't trust myself around you guys.

>>20060881
>>20060868
Lord Rowan just nods. "There is much truth in that. Hard work and able hands can make much from nothing. My dearest cousin serves as my castellan. Without him, I doubt I would be able to raise a single company without assistance... Who would you say is your most able man?"
>>
>>20060897

>>20060881
Anon has the right idea.

Sup Obudo? We really need to get a Steam group or something. Anyone up for that?
>>
>>20060926

Hello, i agree on the steam part, though i don't exactly have a fully enabled account right now, i can still join groups, just can't converse in the group chats.

>>20060924

"My most able man, well that varies by the task I assign my men, as each has his own strengths."

I'm not sure who to answer wish, I think we probably trust Cargill or Ben the most.
>>
>>20060924
MOST able? My men are specialists my lord. To call one man more able than another is to denigrate the roles we all must play. If you must, Ser Crane is perhaps the best of my Steel Guard, while Castle Salt simply could not be run without Ser Cargill.
>>
>>20060924
You ask a quite difficult question Lord Rowan.

Should you be talking solely in the arts of combat and war I would be hard pressed to choose but one.

My Maester Ben is as skilled as any I've ever found.

I trust my castellan Laurence Cargill with my life and more importantly my home.

I have not found a shrewder mind for finance than Coyle.

I also see great promise in Sir Martin Crane, he is as eloquent and sharp witted as he is skilled with lance and sword.
>>
>>20060926
No, she is definitely a girl of the Reach. Not coastal though.... Maybe near the Westerlands? She doesn't have the fiery hair of the Hightowers or Tyrells, nor the golden locks of the coastal houses like the Caswells, Shermers, or Hunts.

>>20060950
>>20060948
He nods a bit more. "A good castellan and steward are key. It enables a man to.... range, a bit. I, however, find myself tethered to my home as there is always some dispute or minor inconvenience to be solved. Such is the price of lordship." He nods to his young wife, who stands. "My lord, it has been a pleasure to meet you. Perhaps I shall see you again soon? I can only hope." With that, he makes for the doors, a small contingent of men falling in around him as his wife collects her gaggle of ladies.

>It is nearing midnight, although the hall isn't quite empty yet.
You can see some of the Steel Guard drinking idly by the far hearth, and a small collection of Redwyne men discussing naval tactics nearer you, using bits of bread and mugs of beer to indicate ships and shoals.
>Got anything you want to do tonight?
>>
rolled 50 = 50

go over naval tactics with the men that seams interesting
>>
Good question. Do we have anything to do? No open quests, flirting for the day is done... Either we should kick back with the Guard or go to bed, and I vote for bed.
>>
>>20061001

We doubtlessly have much to do tomorrow, bid the Steel guard good night then hit the sack? Or god forbid we find dalyna in our room again... perhaps we should chill a while and see what's up with the bros/redwynne bros?
>>
>>20061001
Let's kick it with the Steel Guard. They are complete bros to us, we ought to return such broness in kind.

On an unrelated note I like Lord Redwyne, he's cynical but he's honest, accurate and he really got our number when talking about us.
>>
>>20061050
>>20061041
You take a time to chat with the Steel Guard over a cup of wine. Doros is there with Cress, David Millson, and Ser Cordwayner. They want to know when, now that everything is done and tied off, they will be heading back to Castle Salt. Cress maybe says it the best. "Ain't no one as comfortable in a strange bed or a tossing deck as me, m'lord... But I do miss those girls back home." You assure them that you are departing soon and that, for a while at least, things should be a bit calmer.

By the time you are done, most of the hall is empty now. The Redwyne men found something else to do, and the only people left now are serving girls and some kitchen lads who are clearing away leftover food and collecting the dishes and silver. One of the girls is clearly eyeing you... She is six and ten, with a great figure. But her face is a bit too close in resemblance to the first man you killed on Crabber's Harbor. Each time you glance at her, you keep seeing the look on his face as you split his skull with that neat, overhand chop. You shake it off and down another cup of wine on the walk back to your room. You find it free of naked noblewomen, which is a blessing, and turn in for the night.

We really need to finish that sept of ours.
>>
>>20061147
I'd suggest we send a letter to our family accompanied with some barrels of our finest wine. In the letter we should tell them what we have been up to lately (sans the scheming and anything that would put us in deep shit if it got intercepted), telling them they are always welcome in our lands, and asking them if they would be interested in moving our merchandise in the Riverlands.

Having someone trustworthy who also knows the local area would be very valuable once we start exporting wine around Westeros.
>>
>>20061203
A Sept not to any of the Old Gods or the New, but to our true mistress. Fate, whim and luck.
>>
>>20061164
Cress was a sailor out of Gulltown. The man is as lowborn as you can be without being a bastard, but he is as good a man in the Guard as you could want. Despite his low birth, he has a great facility with languages and knows men in half a dozen of the Free Cities. He also has a skill with an ax that makes you think he was almost Ironborn.

David was the son of a miller about fifty miles south of the Twins. He left home at age twelve to escape his rather preachy father (it isn't much talked about, but he believes the Seven are rubbish and the Old Gods are even sillier). He served for a while as a ranger in the service of your father, before following along with you when you journeyed south for the Reach. As fine a man as you could want.
>>

You wake to a gorgeous autumn day. A few clouds are on the eastern horizon, but otherwise it is simply gorgeous out. You break your fast with Terris in your room on fried eggs, salted fish, fresh bread and beer. He eats nearly as much as you do, and you muse about how ravenous you must have looked when you were his age. You toss the boy a lime as you send him out to practice his bladework with Ser Crane and Iylaria in the main yard.

You stretch before taking stock of the day. Your morning is open, but the afternoon brings the judgement of the Clawwater men. Paxter promised to have a decision for the Clawwater girls by then as well, which might be something you need to remind him of. Additionally, you need to make plans to return home. Your wounded fleet is in Saltmouth being repaired, but you are pretty sure Lord Portain wouldn't mind giving you a lift since you both are returning the same way.

>Wat do this morning?
>>
>>20061332
Good question. Any other Arbor lords we have yet to meet? Might be worth getting the meet and greets out of the way for good.

Oh, weren't we talking about inviting the family to a wine country getaway? Might be a good time to write those letters. And say goodbye to the Clawwaters, they're obviously getting the axe thanks to our rolls.
>>
>>20061332
Oh thank lady luck we didn't die in our sleep.

Is there a sept in this town? We should visit it and thank the gods we survived our brilliant rolls.
>>
>>20061332

Gather more information about Arbor Politics, mingle with people in the great hall if anything's going on, then see Paxter about his decision concerning the girls. We should hold off on taking them on as wards, I'd prefer at the most to making them Wards in the Riverlands or just pawning them off on someone else.
>>
>>20061332
The kid is going to end up as the most badass knight ever.

Mingle, talk to any Lords we haven't yet, talk to Paxter about what to do with the Clawwater girls.
>>
>>20061360
I believe there was already a raven in the air... The Seven know when it will actually get all the way up there, but it is on it's way.

As for Arbor lords? None that you can think of. The collection here is rather small, but you are sure that there will be some other meetings that will give you the opportunity to politic. As for the sept? That should be done in just over a year, at the rate your people are working. Then again, it should be an outstanding structure. Easily the finest building in Saltmouth.

>Crunch
We are going to need to decide what our vote for the girls would be. Clearly, they cannot return to their home. While Dalyna would probably be more than willing to accept the girls into her ladies (which seemed to be Paxter's idea), our word might be able to sway him a bit.
>>
>>20061435

Either way they're of no value to us, we don't win anything marrying them to anyone, I say let Dalyna take the girls as wards.
>>
rolled 33 = 33

>>20061332
I'm still voting this:
>>20061209
I.e. start composing the letter now, add it to some of our finest wines when we get back to our holdings.

Also the Riverlands might be as good a place as any to send the Clawwater girls. It's probably far enough away to avoid the fallout, and our family can make sure they won't come back and bite us in the ass. In addition it might make us seem like a merciful and generous lord when we take in the daughter(s) of our defeated enemy. Might be wise to suggest this to Paxter.
>>
>>20061435
Sounds fine to me. None of us have had any good ideas on what to do with them.

Also, why don't you sign on to the Steam group? I was thinking that you could use it to let people know when the quest was starting up.
>>
>>20061435
Well for the younger one it's probably best to give her to Dalyna.

I'm not sure what we should do about the older one, her usefulness in marriage is limited to us, she has no lands or anything. We could have her marry whoever we set up as our Steward for the islands we just got.
>>
>>20061453

Moving our wine across Westeros to the Riverlands will cost way more than we'll get back. We can't really get it to them by sea, unless we go halfway around Westeros. Moving it by land will just get it stolen, I don't think it's worth selling it to the Riverlands just yet, until we've expanded past our local markets we should wait.
>>
>>20061480

The people there will never want her back and we're saving those lands to make a banner house eventually, not of the whole islands but of one. Perhaps we can eventually have 2 or 3 banner houses out there, who knows.
>>
>>20061480
Actually marriage to the steward seems like it won't be that useful, it won't really get much more loyalty and it prevents us from banner housing it and marrying them to a political ally of ours.

I am slightly interested into turning the younger one into a spy though.
>>
>>20061504
we could have the raven carry enough for a shot of wine.

we'll need the biggest , toughest raven we can get our hands on, but doable. - it would give a letter a nice touch. - whenever sending a raven, sending another sample of our wine collection.
>>
>>20061519

That's not a good idea, if we want a spy on Arbor politics we can easily find someone competent, a little girl isn't going to know how to collect information or send it by raven etc. Plus for all purposes she probably hates us for getting her father and potentially her brothers beheaded, invading her home and forcefully taking it from her.
>>
>>20061519
>>20061556
also, sending the girls to the riverlands, at least the older one would be a smart thing to do, and keeping the younger one at least for a spell until her shock wears of, since she should be attached to her rescuer, ser i-forgot-who-it-was, and do the first in having her trained as a spy.
>>
>>20061574
She might also like us because we saved her from her mother throwing her off the battlements. I'm not saying she'll be a spy immediately but if we spend some time training, educating and grooming her for the role.

>>20061588
I think Cordwayner saved her and then Ol' Nick, who had daughters before his wife went batshit, comforted her.
>>
>>20061574
you are thinking short term

we are thinking long term

like decades. having her sent to the river-lands to scope out people there, what's going on, etc.

by then stockholm syndrome and indoctrination should have her made as loyal to us as possible, and since she was rescued from being killed by her own mother by our personal grace (the situation would have unfolded regardless of our own involvement), we should get a good agent in the mainland down the road when either the rebelion starts or robert is king.
>>
Throwing on a clean shirt, you belt your sword around your waist and head out.

In the morning sunlight, you take in the beauty of Bridge Keep. The worn white stone stands in stark contrast to the carefully maintained parks and gardens on the terraces, and the dark blue of the water flowing from the cliff face and the interior channels. You cross through a small garden and slip through a small walkway as you make your way towards the central keep. You jog up some stairs, and find yourself crossing the main bridge from the exterior wings into the keep, the roiling and churning water from the underwater streams cascading into the shallow pools that flood as high tide rolls in. The guards at the door, men in suits of mail and coats of brilliant blue, open the door and let you in without a word. Apparently, you are starting to be known.

You find Paxter in his solar, talking to several men of disparate age and size. He is discussing wine figures and tallies, while a small man behind him takes down notation in a leather-bound tome. As you enter, Paxter tells the men that they will talk after "the nasty business of this afternoon," and they file out of the room, greeting you and half-bowing as they slip through the door.

Paxter leans back into the recesses of his comfy-looking chair. "Karban. What brings you to my door? I had expected to see you later, at the execution."
>>
>>20061588
I'd rather not separate them like that, also if we have the older one in Dalyna's retinue we get access to all of the gossip the handmaidens and staff in the Redwyne house hear.
>>
>>20061453
Separating the girls seems a bit cruel right now, I say we take them as wards for now. When/if our family drops in to say high we might be able to send one/both back to the riverlands when they leave. We can always use them later, sending them off now loses us any opportunity in the future.
>>
>>20061629

>Crunch
So lets vote guys. Are we sending the girls to the Riverlands, agreeing with Paxter that Dalyna should take in the girls, or should we take them?

Those seem to be the big three ideas. If you have another one, you can vote for that too.
>>
>>20061618
or gratefulnesses, attachment and money.

either way five or so years under our tutelage and then sent to visit the river-lands similar to her sister, to she where her sister lived, visiting her sister, etc...

you get the drift.

And also we get a certain air of galantry by taking care of the dependants of our vanquished enemies. Something that would make our enemies less likely to commit suicide and child murder, like the batshit mother.
>>
>>20061664
we take them in, pending arrangements to be sent of to the Riverlands, at least the older one.
>>
>>20061629
I was thinking about what to do with the Clawwater girls. When he capitulated the Motte to us he asked that they be taken care of.

>>20061664
Give Myrianna to Dalyna as one of her ladies, keep Stefanie, the younger one, as our ward.

Myrianna will hear a lot about what happens from the gossip, serve Dalyna well and pass on anything she hears to her sister. Stefanie we groom to be of use to us while also acting as a playmate for Terris.

Or we take them both as wards and marry Myrianna off to someone nice.

Cite that we'd like to keep the two sisters who have been through so much together and under kind care. I consider that one being at our place and one at the Redwyne's place pretty close together.
>>
>>20061664
Vote for taking them.
We can always use/send them away later if needed.
>>
>>20061643
Not right now. in a month or two the elder one goes to the riverlands so as to prevent the forming of a conspiracy between the two, and allow us to be seen in a favourable light by the elder one too before send off - to prevent vindictive wife syndrome.
>>
Vote we take the girls, hold onto them pending sending Myrianna to the Riverlands and training the other as a spy.
>>
>>20061664

>agreeing with Paxter that Dalyna should take in the girls

This is the best option, if he eventually want them to marry our banner-man they are quite close and it couldn't be too difficult to get Paxter to agrwe.
>>
It seems that team "Take the girls" is winning handily. So gimme 4d6 to persuade Paxter, and make your voice heard now if you disagree.

He nods as you talk about the girls. "You speak wisdom, I think. I was, at first, considering placing them in the care of my sister. But perhaps a few girls might bring some charm to your halls. The only beautfy you have is the Lady Iylaria, and she is about as comforting as a blade. Softer, gentler girls might be a boon to you and yours... Just be sure to let them visit often. They could use the interaction with girls their age. And, I am sure, you will be able to cherish the break."

The two of you talk about other things as the conversation broadens. After a time, however, you collect yourself and take your leave. Paxter gives you a bit of advice. "Dress to look the part today... The smallfolk will be out in their masses, and I won't have one of my best bannermen looking like some hedge knight."

Iylaria, there are many times when a blade is of greater comfort than any soft silks or velvet.

Don't worry about them, I'll be sure they are able to interact with other young women. It wouldn't do if they started to look at Reff and Doros for manners and etiquette.

Of course, I'll be sure to look every bit the Lord I am.

Dress like the nobleman we are supposed to look like. Not to much, not to little. Just the right tone to tell wealth authority and Lordship, without looking like a court buffoon. dark muted colours, wit high quality leather and strategically placed jewellery. a pin here, a necklace there. - nothing ostentatious, just to give the right feel.

perhaps we should see to the girls too, and see how they are doing, and inform them of the arrangements, and see how they take it - we can discuss more once in saltmouth if the would prefer to get away from the island.

Paxter just nods as you leave. You pull a few oranges from the basket of one of the kitchen girls, and make your way towards the yard. You will have a fair vantage point from your level, looking down on the yard from the shaded interior wallwalk. You lean against an arch, and begin to peel the sweet fruits while you watch.

Ser Crane is helping Terris on his bladework as Ser Cordwayner serves as his opponent. Terris listens intently as Ser Crane talks about the benefits and disadvantages of the huge blade in the other knights hands. The boy leans quickly, but is still having trouble with fighting with a blade in both hands. The men of the Vale believe in the traditional armament of knighthood, but Iylaria insists the boy learn how to handle at least a knife in his off-hand.

>Keep watching or go down and help instruct?
>>
>>20061956
let him fight like the vale men tell, and after a bout tell him to change to Iylrias instruction - so he can find his preferred way.

the more styles of fighting he knows even at a basic level, the better he is prepared to meet all foes we might encounter here on the sea or in the arbour- since he will be our squire we want him to survive.
>>
>>20061956

watch for now, we may just get in the way of lylaria and the others.
>>
>>20061956
I say go down, instruct him a bit in the use of the shield. As both a weapon and defensive implement.

Tell Terris that while he may not follow a certain path with a weapon that understanding how it is used will only make him better fit to face an opponent who uses it themselves. While the Braavosi water dance may not be for him there are valuable lessons to be learned from it that he can incorporate into his own fighting. In addition you won't always have the opportunity to use a two handed weapon, there are times when all you carry on you is a sword and dagger or perhaps just a dagger or two. A knight must be prepared for all types of combat.

You continue to eat the oranges as you watch the boy. He seems to be adapting, if slowly, and by the end of the session he is dodging or blocking more of Ser Cordwayner's cuts than not. While it might take him a while to learn to use his left hand, he seems to be able to grasp the concept, unlike some knights who just see it as a dead limb to be used to block. You also resolve to teach the boy the offensive uses of a shield... A dirk isn't the only dangerous thing to have in your left hand, after all.

As the boy returns his blunted weapons to the racks, you descend and offer him advice and question his choices, helping him think about /why/ he did things, rather than just how. You walk with him back towards your quarters, and the two of you quickly wash and prepare to attend the execution.

>>
>>20062124
It's standard procedure to ask if they'll take the black, and we talked to Lord Redwyne about it, I think it's taken care of. Except for Lord Clawwater, he's getting the axe.
>>
>>20062053 Cont.
The two of you wash quickly, with warm water brought up by several servants. The lye of the soap is scented with oil from lemons, and you scrub yourself until your arms and chest are a healthy pink. Your hair, as it often does, tries to become a tangled mass as it dries, but you carefully comb it several times so that it will look presentable. It still refuses to part, but at least it no longer resembles a crested helm.

You dress in a shirt of blue linen, under a jacket of black. A demi-cape of black silk with your house's crest goes over your left shoulder, pinned in place by the Valyrian steel pin. Terris brings you the fine boots of black leather with the silver clasps, freshly cleaned and polished by him last night. You afix your sword back around your waist, and tuck a dagger into your belt when the demi-cape will hide it quite well. You turn to Terris, and smile. He is wearing a quilted jacket of the pale blue of his house, and hose of black. His boots are dusty from the yard, but he is carefully wiping them with a damp cloth to remove most of it. His cape, the one you had made for him in Oldtown with your crest upon it, rests over the back of his chair and a broad knife rests upon his belt. The boy is getting the hang of this.

>>
>>20062159

Ruffle Terris's hair for a bit, tell him that he's been doing really well so far and that the execution is unlikely to be pleasant but he'll have to power through it.
>>
>>20062185
Also, tell him not to look away.
>>
>>20062171
Winter is ALWAYS coming. That is why Starks are always right... eventually.

Emerging into the dull roar of the murmuring crowd and blinding sunlight, you take stock of the situation. On a platform stands Paxter in full regalia, the crown of the Arbor on his head. Lords Portain, Rowan, Merrywind and Bravill all stand near him, shining and imposing in their finest. There is no smile among them, and all wear blades on their belts. Around the platform stand maybe a hundred of the city watch, keeping the crowd back with crossed spears and broad shields. You take your place near Portain, nodding a greeting. As the sun continues to beat down, you are happy you dressed sensibly. Terris fidgets to your left, and you warn him what is to be expected of him. Your voice, low and level, rolls over the boy. "This is the end of this business... And a fitting end. One man will die today, and maybe more. As my squire, you are here with me as a boy who endeavors to become a knight. Don't flinch, and do not look away. This is as much a part of your duty as practice with a blade or learning your sums."
>>
>>20062269 Cont.
Luckily, you don't need to wait long. The Clawwater men are dragged before the crowd. The three of them look gaunt and pale, blinking in the sunlight after a night in the dark, damp cells. Guardsmen roughly push them down onto their knees, placing Lord Clawwater's head on the block as a septon asks the man if he has any last words, or perhaps a prayer. The old man growls out a curse in response. When the septon asks the old man about wanting to confess anything, or perhaps to take the black, Lord Clawwater responds with a caustic tirade about the unfair treatment of his house, and the greed of the Arbor lords. The crowd begins to boo and throw things, torn between a hunger for blood and hatred for a traitor who mocks them with his last words.

Lord Portain growls a low, "Let's have an end to it," and Paxter just gives the headsman a nod. The heavy ax descends with a low whistle than ends in a thump, and the former Lord Clawwater is no more. You hear Terris give a quiet gasp, but the boy stands his ground. The headsman lifts the ax again, and Damien Clawwater is laid near the headless body of his father as the septon kneels near him, to ask about taking the black.

Damien bows his head low, rocking back and forth on his knees a bit. You try and think of what it must be like for him... You don't try very hard, however. The man followed his father's greed into treachery. You may be ambitious, but you are smart enough to know that loyalty is the ultimate currency between lords.

The man stands, with the help of the septon, before asking Paxter for mercy, for him to be allowed to take the black to repent for his actions. You can see a flash of relief over Paxter's face... He must have been worried the boy would be a martyr for his cause, losing his head like his father, due to pride. Paxter nods, and the crowd is mostly fine with that, despite a handful of thrown vegetables and a half dozen calls for his head. The younger Clawwater, Brandon, also begs for the black. The two men are taken back to the dungeons after being promised a trip to the wall and the blades they once owned with which they can perform their service. You leave with the rest of the lords as the crowd begins to break up, several guardsmen tossing the headless body into a cart to be sunk off the end of the dock while two other men grab the head, to be tarred and staked near the gibbets filled with smugglers and pirates.

Talking with Paxter on the walk, he admits (in a very quiet voice so that other lords cannot hear) that his father is too weak to be here. He was wracked with pain the previous night, and his knees are so swollen that he couldn't even stand this morning.

You talk with Portain as you walk towards the keep, the city watch clearing a path through the thinning crowds. The streets are slowly clearing out, luckily, as people return to their normal lives. He promises to meet you that evening, and that you can sail with him north tomorrow, in the early afternoon with the tide. You say your goodbyes as you get to the keep, and make your way towards the western wing, near the gardens. You find the room of the Clawwater girls, and nod at the footmen in Redwyne blue who are guarding the door. You knock, and enter.

Young Stefanie is near a window, reading a thin book of traditional Arbor poems. She looks tired and drawn, the silvery-red dress and yellow ribbons in her black hair doing nothing to distract from the fact she is a very sad, very tired girl.

Myrianna looks like she is coping a bit better. She is crammed into a dress that might once has belonged to Dalyna, with it hugging perhaps a bit too tight around her hips. The creme silk and white lace compliments her hair and freckled skin perfectly, and her hair is done up with ribbons of bright blue and pink in perhaps her only overt sign of rebellion. Both girls quickly stand and curtsy, Myrianna speaking for the girls. "My lord, we did not expect to see you here... T.. Too what do we owe this rare honor?"

Be frank with them, explain their situation factually. We are responsible for the ruin the of their house, the death of their father and mother, and the exile of their two older brother. And now we're taking them with us, and they have to live on.
We're not asking them for gratitude for the clemency and good will we've shown at some points during the events. We expect their anger and hate. It's normal and healthy.
But we want them to turn to their future, instead of their past, for their own interest. Lose some, win some, live on.

"Also, since I made a promise that you will be looked after, i ended up with having to take care of you, so you will be staying at Saltmouth for some time. The song is pretty popular, yes. A bit dark, and kinda frowned upon in the Reach, but still known. But a lot of sailors like it, since they often have a darker sense of humor and bleaker outlook, so it is played in Saltmouth commonly enough.

You, quickly and coldly, explain the situation to the two girls. They both sit there, quietly, until you are done. Myrianna speaks first. "My lord.... My lord, I had thought we were to remain here, under the care of Lady Dalyna." You tell her that Lord Paxter had changed his mind, and that Saltmouth will be as welcoming as they could ever imagine. Stefanie speaks next, cutting you off in an outburst. "But I don't want to go with you, I don't! I want to stay here with Myrianna!" You try and calm the girl down, but she just starts sobbing. You assure Myrianna that no one will be splitting the girls up, and that they will be given a chance to talk to their brothers before you leave tomorrow.

Ryamsport is the largest community on the Arbor, and the biggest port. Also, it is the main port for wine merchants and, therefore, the wealthiest place around.

You get an apple and wander your way down to the docks, with Terris behind you, munching on one of his own. While you walk, you quiz the boy on the houses of the Arbor and their words, along with the Great Houses of Westeros and their words. He does very well, and only forgets Bravill and House Tully. As a reward, you give him a silver stag, which he breaks, buying several long, silken ribbons of various colors "for a friend." The copper pennies gangling merrily in his pocket, you swing by the wharves, listening to fishermen call out the days catch and painted girls calling from windows and smoky doors.

Word is that the Hightower's are to host a big tourney in Oldtown to celebrate the 5th nameday of Willas Tyrell, son of Lady Alerie and Lord Mace. Also, word is all over the docks about the Arbor isles, and how they are set to become open waters where a man can fish without fear of piracy or greedy lords... You are unsure if that is a good thing, or if you are about to be inundated with poachers.

Maybe hearsay will carry our words and avoid us a real rush.

Your mind ticked by Terris' purchase, you buy several bolts of silks and lace. You are going to have girls in your castle soon, and you will not have them going about dressed as common lasses... Although the simplicity of your halls might be a good thing for them. Their bedrooms seemed quite luxurious in the keep, and you make a mental note to have your men pack up their belongings and furniture to be brought back tot their apartments in Castle Salt.

On the way back, you distract Terris near a fire-eater from Tyrosh (his hair is colored brilliant red and waxed into two massive horns, like an ox) and slip away from the boy for a moment. You return to his side less than five minutes later, and continue your walk to the keep. The tiny silken smallclothes you purchased carefully wrapped in a small box and tucked unassumingly under your arm.

It's not futile, your opinion is probably duly noted.

You relax a bit after your little journey, and have Terris deliver the package to Lady Dalyna, along with a small, sealed note. You think that she should, at the very least, get a laugh out of it. You collect yourself as the night bells sound in the sept below, in the town, and head to meet Portain.

The two of you take dinner in a small solar near the ravener's tower. It is a more muted affair, with stuffed duck, a bowl of sweet olives, a bowl of roasted peppers and sweet onions from Dorne, fresh dark bread, and several excellent wines. You talk about inconsequential things for the better part of an hour, until the meal is concluded. Portain leans back, wiping his lips on a small cloth. "So I heard you are taking those poor girls into your house... Just be careful they don't slit your throat in your sleep, eh? I would hate to have you survive the field taking those islands, only for a girl of twelve to end your life in your bed." He sips some wine. "Although, dying in bed with a young girl there isn't as bad a way as I could think of."
>>
>>20063412
"It doesn't sound bad, but given the choice, I'd prefer to die of old age surrounded by friends and family and with a virgin's mouth on my cock."

Oh Tyrion you have all the good lines.
>>
>>20063412
I don't think I'll have to worry about them slitting my throat or the younger one heading into my bed.
>>
>>20063470
Virgins don't suck cocks well usually.

Say that if they're courageous or desperate enough to try, then they're welcome.
>>
>>20063470
Dying of old age is often no less painful than dying of a slitted throat. It just takes a lot longer, and I'm a busy man.
>>
>>20063554
That sets him to chuckling. "Aren't you just? Anyhow, I have something I must share with you. Your new possessions, those islands... You are going to need ships, and more than a few. I have been informed by Lord Paxter that my holdings are to be, most generously, extended more than a fair share. The Northwood is now mine, which means I have more timber than anyone save the Redwynes themselves. I have what you need to make those ships, and I do believe I owe at least a portion of what I have been given to you."

You take a sip of the wine too. It is a rich, full red, and you mull it over for a moment. "I am offering to save you a small fortune on timber, Karban. What is there more to think about?"
>>
>>20063412
"I can certainly think of worse ways to go."

Have we invited him and his family over for a feast/hunting when we get back? His wife seemed interested in getting her son acquainted with Terris.

>>20063194
Mah Niggah.
I've got to go to work in a couple of minutes but this has made me very happy.
>>
>>20063669
Tell him about our plans to make the most of the forest on that island. His lumber is better, for sure, but i'm thinking that half what he wanted to offer us, and the help of a few of his men who're experienced in these things would be better.
>>
>>20063675
We will probably be going strong when you get back, so no worries man.

"Construction of the new mills will begin as soon as I return home. I am moving some of the smallfolk further afield, to aid in the construction there... Before you know it, we will have timber floating down towards the coast. Northwood oak will make fine material for your new galleys."
>>
>>20063669
Is he offering to just give us the wood or set up a trade agreement with a nice discount? Either way, I think we should go for trading rather than accepting charity. Portain is a bro, and we should pay bros for their goods.
>>
>>20063669
I do need timber, and I was planning on setting up greater ship building facilities in Saltmouth and perhaps a great drydock on Crabber's Harbor.

You also must have men skilled with wood and the creation of ships, would you mind if I poached some of them from under your nose?
>>
>>20063730
I think he's suggesting trade agreement.
>>
>>20063750
Schweeet. Agree wholeheartedly.
>>
>>20063720

Let's work a deal to get some help from him setting our shipyards up and training master craftsmen to do it, and his lumber will be a godsend. A trade agreement must be setup to keep the wood flowing. We need ships soon to keep poachers out of the arbor isles, we'll have to divert a small force from saltmouth when we get back to take up patrol until we have a sizable operation going.
>>
>>20063822
We also want men who know how to take care of forests so we can start getting wood from the Isles, we don't want to be fully reliant on him and not utilize those.

Of course, but we're also going to have to make a program to re-forest the forests when we start logging, so that we aren't fucked in twenty years with no more forests to speak of.

fuck guys, we have to make a lumber jack house of bad asses at some point, maybe of our one northerner guy (forget his name) who cleaves shit in two with a sword all day.
>>
>>20063750
He is. Basically, he is offering to take a huge amount off the cost of those huge Northwood oaks that shipbuilders love.

>>20063822
>>20063736
You should be able to attract better shipbuilders from across southern Westeros. Taking them from Portain wouldn't exactly be a bro thing to do... But you can probably steal some without too much trouble.
>>
>>20063892
Okay, we won't poach much from him, just enough to get things set up and started. Then we'll put a call out to southern Westeros for more ship builders and lumberjacks.
>>
>>20063892

Not to steal, merely to borrow a few men he can spare to oversea the initial set up of our shipyards if he can spare them, otherwise we'll have to find some pro shipbuilders who can work with our pinewood forests. (or was it spruce?)
>>
>>20063892

About how many lumber workers or shipwrights would we need to start up operations at our new holdings?

It'd be annoying for Portain to lose a few of those, but if the potential profits are high enough, I think he'll let it slide.
>>
>>20063892
>>20063943
We should get them to train local men.
>>
>>20063934
I assumed it was this. And I think its a reasonable term of the trade agreement.
>>
>>20063975

that was the whole idea, clawwater has excellent sailors and we can make them shipbuilders as well, either stationing the drydocks in clawwater or on an island with forests, so we don't have to transport lumber between islands.
>>
Basically, the uptick in work will be drawing people from all over. There is a huge number of ships you are going to be buildings (at least, as far as I can tell) and that kind of work will draw craftsmen.

The rest of the meal is pretty pleasant. Dessert is a cherry tart with sweetened cream, matched perfectly with a sweet, bubbly white. The two of you talk about several things (his wife's passion for Myrish music, Terris' education, the fact that word of your marital status has pretty much got through the entirety of the Reach at this point), and it is relaxing to know that, by tomorrow, you will be on your way home. You hope Coyle won't be too overwhelmed in your absence.
>>
>>20064035

Awesome, can't wait to be home and finally get to business. We'll have to put the word out we're looking for experienced master shipbuilders, we want our fleet to be the pride of the arbor.
>>
>>20064035
Son of a whore the roll from earlier was for responses to our marriage proposal plan.
>>
>>20064035
Given the 1 earlier he very well might be. It's on fire, with a horde of Dothraki screamers who learned to walk on water assaulting from one side and the Ironborn attacking on the other. In the center is a pile of White Walkers who are very confused about how they got here getting into a fight with some resurrected dragons. Oh, and all the wildfire we got is there as well.
>>
>>20064056
HAH. You know what they say, lucky in wealth...
>>

>>20063890
Karban lands are going to slowly be diversifying, from merchantmen to lumbers, farmers, and fishermen. Life is going to be strange for a little while across the Arbor's northern coast. And for anyone who is worried? The men of the Arbor have known, for years, that for each tree taken, two must be planted. Shipbuilding has been going strong on the Arbor for nearly nine hundred years, and a healthy portion of the timber involved was planted by Arbor foresters. While you can get away with clearcutting in the North, a man can ride from one end of the Arbor to another in two weeks. Space and resources are limited, and careful stewardship is required.

>Anyways
You wander back to your room, rather tipsy and quite happy with how things have been going. Terris is asleep in the side room, curled up and half-snoring. You drop your sword belt around a chair and collapse into bed. Life, sometimes, can be pretty good.
>>
>>20064121
Wait, no no sleep. We promised to take the girls to see their brothers.
>>
>>20064066
I have no excuse.

Hm... so, besides making plans to turn the Isles into an offshore navy base, what do we have to do? We've got the Brotherhood guy coming back to see his pimped out manse and we've got the whole Cargill situation to deal with. Anything else?
>>
>>20064121
You can run and do that tonight, or tomorrow. Up to everyone.
>>
>>20064143

I think that's about it, but that's a lot to do.

I think our goal for the next year should be getting the shipyards up and making every inch of the Isles profitable, getting the rest of the brotherhood to start trading here and figuring out the deal with the Cargills.
>>
I've got a question. Since we have the isles now and Saltmouth, how does that affect our house Fortune rolls? Do we roll twice, or do our current stats change to reflect the absorption of those lands, or both, or neither?
>>
>>20064143
Entice the rest of the Brotherhood to our shores. Make mo money, get bitches. Keep enhancing our money making machine of a town. Not only make the Isles into a navy base but exploit every single natural resource the the fullest extent, but not in a unsustainable way.

>>20064173
I think we should, we said we would take them to see them tonight and we keep our word. If they're sleeping of course we'll let them be.

>>20064196
Speaking of that sort of thing how goes the pastebin with crunch that you were talking about a while back?
>>
>>20064196
>>20064200
Stuff is nearly ready for a pastebin version. Minor hick-ups and some perceived balance issues had to be ironed out. It is almost good to go, though. As for our house fortune rolls? They remain the same, and apply to all our lands. Once we have a bannerman, we profit from their house fortune rolls as well.

You jump out of bed, and throw your belt back around your waist.... You are happy you were going to call it an early night. You summon Ser Cordwayner and Reff, and go to meet the girls at their quarters. The two girls are dressed in fine gowns of pale blue, just a shade off from their house colors. You are unsure if they changed to make an impression, or if they just wore that to dinner. Shaking the sleep from your eyes, you talk to the girls. "I am a man of my word, and I will be taking you to see your brothers... We will go now, and you are not to bring anything to them, or you may imperil their lives." Your little party meets up with a trio of Redwyne guards, and you head down for the dungeons.
>>
Aw yeah best quest time!
>>
>>20064247
Excellent, I will enjoy having rules to pore over and find ways to optimize and/or break House Karban.
>>
>>20064247 Cont.
The girls grow noticeably cold and nervous as you journey deeper into the rock, always following stairs that twist down into the darkness. It takes nearly twenty minutes to finish the journey, before you find yourself at the heavy, barred door to the black cells. You nod to one of the men at the door, and proceed into the cellblock.

You turn to Myrianna. "You can see one brother at a time, for that is all these men will allow, and I am disinclined to test their loyalty." The girl just nods, before mumbling "Brandon." You nod to one of the guards who takes a partner and emerges, about two or three minutes later, with Brandon Clawwater between them. The girls rush to him, embracing him. Myrianna seems clearly shaken, and Stefanie is weeping again. Her brother does his best to calm the two of them, whispering and trying to cheer them up.
>>
"Don't worry about me, Steffie. I am fine, just fine... I just have to go away. I have to pay for what father did, and that means I have to go north. Do not worry for me, I will be fine." The girls don't really seem to buy that, but Brandon gives you a look... You just nod. The boy is happy to have a chance to say goodbye to what is left of his family.

You wait patiently for around ten or fifteen minutes. One of the guards gives you a motion that says it is time for the boy to go.
>Give them five more minutes, or seperate them?
>>
>>20064306
Let them have all the time they can. Also are men at the wall allowed Ravens? Promise them that they will be allowed to send one once a month or so. Before Brandon is taken away pull him aside and mention that we're a man of our word and we WILL look after his sisters.
>>
>>20064345

Do they not wish to see Damien as well?
>>
>>20064345
Five more minutes, unless it detracts from Damien's time. It's the last time the family will see each other for god's sake.
>>
>>20064345
This is the last time they will probably ever see each other again.

Motion to the guard for 5 more minutes and then put him back in so Damien can have a chance to say goodbye.
>>
>>20064358

Don't bother with the ravens, that's a waste of a raven to use and a Lord's ravens aren't for mail from a sister to brother, they're for crucial correspondence that has to get there quickly.
>>
>>20064345
Five more minutes, or more. Let them finish. It's not like anyone's in a hurry.
>>
>>20064358
I don't think we can promise that ourself. We have no clue what the regulations are on that and I don't think they'd be allowed to do that. Raven messages are important.

Also reassure Brandon that his sisters will be well taken care of and that we hope he finds success upon the wall.
>>
>>20064379
Yeah, regular correspondance is enough. But if the brothers survive, maybe in one or two years we'll let them visit.
>>
>>20064410
That'd be literally the longest trip physically possible for someone on the wall, and I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be allowed anyways. If someone joins the Black out of duty or something maybe they're allowed to visit, especially if their family lives in the North, but someone who was given the choice of the Black or Death, I'm not so sure.
>>
>>20064465
Maybe if we ourselves have a reason to go to the North we'll bring the girls with us.
>>
>>20064358
It is questionable if he will have access to ravens like that... And your word, at the Wall, is worth the wind it is spoken on. The Night's Watch is a structure that stands along. They may respect you, but your orders and promises mean nothing up there.

You give the happy girls a few moments more, before nodding to the guards. Brandon sees them, and nods. He bids goodbye to his sisters, and kisses each one many times. The guards bring him back to his cell, while the other pair open up another, further down the line. The men bring out Damien, and the same scene is repeated again. Damien seems to keep himself together a bit better, but it is clear that he understands just how long "the rest of your life" means. You give them as much time as you can, before the guards take him back to his cell. Heading back up the stairs, you feel rather torn. You feel bad for the girls... The last time you see what remains of your family shouldn't be in a dark, black pit. You just thank the Seven they weren't present for the death of their father.

>Say something? Or leave them be?
>>
>>20064465
I don't think the Watch cares why the guys were sent there. Paxter may be the limiting authority here, but I don't think he'd care either.
But I meant allowing the girls to visit the brothers, not the brother to come here.
>>
>>20064477
There's nothing to say.
Take them back, and prepare for the trip.
>>
>>20064477
>>20064477

What really is there to say?
>>
>>20064477
If the girls don't know of our promise to Damien, now would be the time.
Would reduce the risk of either of them trying something stupid.
>>
>>20064483
Okay, that makes much more sense.

>>20064477
I'm sorry this had to happen.

I wish that I could have met your brothers in better circumstances, Damien is far too clever a man to be wasted on the wall, I would have liked to befriended him.

But there is nothing I could have done about it.
>>
>>20064477
"Is there anything you want me to say?"
>>
>>20064521
On this note, then the girls would more likely trying to keep our promise than steal them away for no reason.
Probably make them like us more.
>>
Despite your words, the girls remain silent the whole way back to their rooms. You tell the Redwyne men outside the door to be attentive... You don't need them trying something stupid. You return to your own room, and kinda just lay there for a while. It is a sad end to a stupid story.

Waking the next day, Terris is already answering the knock at the door that woke you. It is from a Portain marine, who hands Terris a letter and briefs him with the days schedule. The ships will be leaving not long after noon, and are expecting fine winds. Terris thanks the man, and closes the door. The two of you collect yourselves and prepare for the day. In the yard, Ser Cargill and Ser Bushy are ordering everything to be taken north, while the Steel Guard is preparing to head out.

>wat do before we leave?
>>
>>20064625

Bid Lord Paxter farewell, then get on the ship.
>>
>>20064625
We should say goodbye to Paxter before we leave. Let him know that we plan on doing great things with the Isles and give him a proper brohug.

Maybe bid Dalyna farewell if we see her.
>>
>>20064625
Go say goodbye to the redwynes.
I suspect we won't see the older one alive again.
>>
>>20064625
Am I the only one that thinks we should get Terris something nice? He's been such a good lad these past few days. Does he have a horse of his own?
>>
>>20064675
Horse could work, also we should forge him a nice dagger when we get home.
>>
>>20064688
Save the horse for his birthday I figure.
>>
>>20064688
>>20064675
The boy is starting to really grow. A horse of his own would be a fine gift. Maybe a horse from Bravill lands? He would have to really prove he deserves such a gift though.

The older Lord Redwyne is not seeing visitors this morning, as he is feeling too ill. He does have a letter for you, which Paxter hands over when you two break your fast. Peeling a lemon afterwards, the two of you talk. "Journey home and expect my raven, Dustain. Things are getting more interesting..."
>>
>>20064740
Hey Dormian, Karban has a Steam group now. Interested in joining? House Karban on Steam.

Interesting in what way?

After some talking, Take care of yourself Paxter, I stand waiting for your raven. Then initiate brohugs.
>>
>>20064789

Indeed, we'll have to see his riding skills, and see how much he advances over the next few months.

We should start considering who can steward for us in the clawwater isles. They're going to need sound financial device too with us absent from it's day to day running.

They will want concessions and lands. If I can count on you, that will alleviate my worries greatly."

No, it's too early. The tournament at Harrenhall needs to happen first.

>>
>>20064902
I would rather not throw Coyle at it given that it's nice to keep him with us at Saltmouth. Maybe Martin Crane knows what he's talking about when it comes to this, and the distance means that we can send ravens and ships back and forth to keep in communication and make sure everything is going smoothly.

>>20064966
You can count on me Paxter, I'm on your side. I have done quite well under the rule of your father and expect great things from you. My loyalty is assured.

I'll try to keep the vultures from gouging you too hard.

I do hope your father endures longer than you suspect, however... both due to my respect for him, and because it will take some time for me to truly gather the strength of my new holdings. It may take some time before I can provide you with the sort of support that you deserve from a lord who controls as much as I do on paper."

If we see the Cargills say hi to them before we go.

Is there anything in the markets here that we need or that people back at Saltmouth would really want?

Maybe grab more books for Ben.
>>
>>20065234
Oh rib Terris about this friend of his. What men do you know that like ribbons in their hair?
>>
>>20065266
Potentially, but none that spring to mind at the moment.

>>20065252
Between the merchants of Saltmouth and the supplies from the Clawwater's keep, the girls should be just fine.

The docks are a bustling mess. The Steel Guard is dividing itself between three of the six Portain ships, and packing away supplies and equipment. Portain's men are readying them for the voyage. With everything readied, you board a small craft with Lord Portain, and head out to rendezvous with the galleys.

A half dozen Portain ships float just out of the harbor, the ships low in the water and bobbing gently as the smooth waves roll in. Over the call of the rowers, Lord Portain turns to you. "You know... I am inclined to thank you, Dustain. This affair has brought me a great increase in my lands. I believe I am in your debt, ser." He kinda glances back across the bay, collecting his thoughts. "If you ever find yourself in need, you can count on me. We achieved much, and I would be honored to repay you the favor one day."

>>

Terris gets rather sullen when you joke about the ribbons. It is clear he is hiding who they are for, but you let it pass. If the boy wants to have a few secrets, let him try. It might be instructive for him, teach him how to hide something from you.

Ben himself has a small chest with him, loaded with any new volumes he could find. He will be sailing with you, making sure that Terris continues his readings. He is kinda a hardass when it comes to the boys education.

Once you are settled on board the vessel, you read the letter as Terris unpacks your luggage. It is a letter written in shaky hand... If Lord Redwyne managed to accomplish this in his state, he must have been determined. It asks that you remain faithful to his son, no matter what another lord promises you. It is clear that he is worried, so you tuck the letter deep into your luggage. No need having someone see that.

The weather is much, much better than you had experienced on the way down. The wind is at your back the whole way north, even if you are constantly soaked in drizzle for four days straight. But, rounding the coast of Cargill lands, the rain finally stops and the last two days are a peaceful sail over relatively smooth seas.

Pulling into the bay, you can see a small squad of guards standing with Coyle on the docks. Dropping anchor off the coast, you and Steel Guard are rowed ashore. Portain would love to stay, but he is as eager to be home as you.

Climbing up on the dock, Coyle helps you up. "It is good to have you home, my lord." Noticing the girls being helped up, he clucks his tongue. "Did you get married while you were away, my lord? It would be ever so inconvenient."

As you walk, Coyle gives you the rundown. "The islands are firmly within your hold, my lord. A small uprising was started on Bastard's Cradle, but half the folk were turned in by their neighbors before anything became of it... It seems the islanders want nothing more of conflict. Which is always good to hear. Ser Wallgrave punished the mass, and hanged the leaders. That was the closest thing to actual rebellion as there has been. As for your holdings here? The market has been generating tax, as expected."

>>
>>20066111

I think we really wanted to expand our land and power, so 1+1 in land and 1+d3 in power? Considering we just got a big land buff with the isles.
>>
>>20066078

Well obviously we're tossing a +1 from each of those to Wealth to turn them each into 1d6+3.
>>
>>20066150
>>20066111
I say +1 and 1d3 in lands. We want to get that to 10 so we can swap it into making Saltmouth a Small City instead of a Large Town.

Two +1s in Wealth which become +2d6+6 Wealth.

Any objections?
>>
Land is for buying more land, power is for buying more military. I don't think we're going to want to expand anything that isn't Saltmouth for a while....

Here's a crazy thought: let's put the 1d3s into other stats and put the 1s into wealth. Then they become 1d3s too. I suggest one of the 1d3s go to power and the other to power.
>>
>>20066189

Vote for this.
>>
>>20066189

Hmm, perhaps we need maybe a roll toward defense? Our fleet might be hard pressed to patrol the clawwater islands and saltmouth.
>>
>>20066189
That sounds good. Might I suggest the rest to power? As has been noted we need more ships.
>>
>>20066189

I thought making Saltmouth a Small City took wealth not land.
>>
>>20066225
That'd probably be Power, Defense is fortifications and so on.

The fortifications of Clawwater are already in place and all of the sailors and ships from there are in our control now. Our fleet just got expanded and it'll expand even more once we get the lumber from Portain coming down stream. We might even get ships.

I think once we get Saltmouth to a Small City we can do so.

>>20066249
We can buy the Size Increase with either Lands or Population IIRC.
>>
>>20066257
Right then lets exchange wealth for influence and influence for land to upgrade our town. Then power to ships.
>>
>>20066257

It could cost us less if we use wealth. I could really like if we could exchange a little Influence for Law. We have too much Influence just sitting there doing nothing while having more Law could give us more something each month.
>>
>>20066249
Everything can take Wealth... Money is, after all, fucking awesome.

Upgrading our city can be done with either Land or Population.

>Crunch:
So for the first month, it is looking like we need a D6 for Wealth and +1 to Power.

Roll that d6 guys.
>>
rolled 2 + 3 = 5

More money. More panties.
>>
Wow, ok. That was some impressive shit.

So, for the next month...It seemed like we were divided on the d3 about it being either Wealth or Power. Make your voices heard on your choices.
>>
>>20066389
If we add the d3 to wealth does it get the additional 1d6+3?
>>
>>20066389

Come on guys a lets go with a little Law, its a fucking investment it pays itself off ever month.
>>
>>20066389
d3 to Power sounds about right.
>>
>>20066389

Welp, i'll vote for power, as it seems redundant to do the same thing twice in a row.
>>
>>20066401

oh shit i completely forgot bout that, change to law, better monthly bonuses roll to roll makes sense vs one simple gain right now.
>>
Going the law route here boss.
>>
>>20066401
Will upping it from 43 to 44-46 have an effect or is the benchmark for that higher?
>>
>>20066401
Well we are allowed one exchange a month right? Then yeah we can do that. Or if it's an either or thing we'll do it this month.
>>
>>20066423
>>20066430
>>20066414

Oh my god people actually listen to me? I am so fucking happy.
>>
>>20066389
Meant to write Land or Power.

I always assume we use a +1 for our Wealth machine. And, sadly, a d3 into Wealth becomes 1d6+3.
>>
>>20066453
Shame, it's a reasonable change from the book where it was whenever you would add Wealth add X, it means we'll just stick any ones in there.
>>

Toss ten influence into Law, put the d3 there too.
>>
So am I reading d3 to Law? And then we are exchanging as well?
>>
>>20066519

I think so.
>>
>>20066519
Looks like the plan. It ought to give us a bonus on House Fortune and we weren't really using the Influence. If dropping from 41 to 40 is us going down a benchmark than we should probably only exchange 9.
>>
Alright then guys. Lets roll some dice.

Roll the d3 for Law, and the d6 for Wealth. Indicate when you roll what its for.

>>
So stats, after our time away:

Defense - 3
Influence - 50
Lands - 2
Law – 45
Population - 41
Power – 14
Wealth - 25

Seems like things are going good, eh?
>>
>>20066709
Going well, or so it seems. I am waiting for the hammer to drop on us.

Shall we swap some Influence for some Law. Something like 6-8.
>>
>>20066709

OK lets see what else do we have to deal with.
>>
So as you review everything else, it seems that the world /HASNT? come to an end in your abscense.

Gimme five seconds guys. Small issue on the intertubes from my end.
>>
>>20066720

i believe that is the plan.
>>
Ok, problem fucking solved. Fucking AT+T.

All right. So the afternoon goes by kinda quickly as you, Ben, and Coyle go over the books. You go over the tax ledgers, the state of the castle (pretty good, all things considered... But there is a lot that needs to be set in order), and the letters.

Your small fleet is being repaired as fast the the docks can handle. Your men on the islands are well fed and prepared to sit in for as long as they have to. Ser Wallgrave doesn't really believe that should be necessary for much longer though... As for additional forces? That would be a good idea.
>>
>>20067006 Cont.
Looking over everything else, you start wondering about what else you should be doing.

>Crunch:
So how much influence do we want to be trading in, exactly? Lets talk some specific numbers.
>>
>>20067006

Figured as much, we destroyed what fleet they had which leaves no patrolling presence to keep smugglers and poachers out. Shipyards need to get going asap.

We should deploy at least 4 ships to help with the patrols, get the word out we're looking for shipbuilders.
>>
>>20067006
They would be.

Now what can we spend this giant pile of money on?

Also our Lands just dropped from 4 to 2, what happened?

Could you list the new stuff and benefits we're getting from the Clawwater, now Crab Islands?

>>20067035
I'm thinking we drop 8 on it. I like the number 8.
>>
>>20067051

I say we get law up to 50. Doesn't influence trade at a 2:1 ratio?

As long as we don't incur any undue hardship from the massive drop of influence to 40, we should be fine.
>>
>>20067128
Influence to Law is 1:1 I think.
>>
>>20067051
Fucking copy error. It should be 4, but i fucked up the Ctrl+c. Goddammit. Current Stats are underneath.

Defense - 3
Influence - 50
Lands - 4
Law – 45
Population - 41
Power – 14
Wealth - 25

I am just all over the place guys. Sorry about that. This fucking day has been all stupid.

So... 8? Does eight sound good?
>>
Influence is a 1:1 trade for almost all stats.

So how many are we gunna swap? The most we can do is 10 per month.
>>
>>20067158
It's cool. I like 8, doing 10 seems like too much and 5 seems like too little.
>>
>>20067181

eight works, if we want we can just spend wealth to replenish stats next month.
>>
>>20067204
I love Wealth.

We should probably spend a bit of it on something.

Could we get a list of available things we can build with wealth, especially a list of the different Guilds and Artisans?
>>
How about we hoard wealth until we hit 100, and then just spend the fuck on improving our lands with gilded streets?

Either that, or we get a lot of trained troops ready to roll.

Anyway for our bannerman how about we get Terris's father to be our bannerman? He is our friend from the vale and it would be good to have a man like him on our side.
>>
So after our Influence exchange, we are looking at:

Defense - 3
Influence - 42
Lands - 4
Law – 53
Population - 41
Power – 14
Wealth - 25

Is this agreeable to everybody?
>>
>>20067262

I say let's wait, see if any of our men do well stewarding it and if they prove they can handle it and are deserving of a banner house one of the smaller isles. The Keep will wait, we may have to use it to secure an alliance or marriage later, we'll wait on it, it's a big piece to have in our arsenal for getting people on our side.

I like the idea of hording our wealth, gives us some breathing room when shit starts hitting the fan, we can slowly grow our fleet up as our shipyards first expand. We need to put gold into the isles to make them popular. I remember we discussed

-obviously shipyards/naval base on the main islands, with some oyster farming
-lumber yards to build ships, but we should consider moving the shipyards here so they are spread out across multiple isles and they're directly connected to their resources.
-i remember we discussed sealing on one island, collecting pelts for ladies or some stuff like that.
-ongoing fishing and crabbing, we need to get those villages efficient and flourishing.
>>
>>20067299

Yeah, that looks pretty good. What does that improved law do for us?
>>
>>20067299

I think that works.
>>
>>20067262
I'm not sure that would work. It'd kinda be rude to poach him from his elder brother in that way.

>>20067299
That works.

>>20067329
Money not spent doesn't do much for us, we should see what our options for using it are.
>>
>>20067331
It gives us bonuses to House Fortune rolls, Population rolls, and other passive bonuses (hooray no having to chase down bandits all the time!).

So after all this administration work, it is nearly four in the afternoon, the setting sun reflecting off the Redwyne strait as you glimpse it through the window. Coyle refills everyone's glasses as the final quill is put back down. "So, my lord... I hope everything is to your satisfaction. The town has run itself in your absence. I doubt if even I was required."
>>
>>20067299
>>20067329

Yeah. We should also discuss making the islands a resupply and repair base for the Brotherhood, it could be cheaper than Oldtown and therefor an attractive deal for the Brotherhood.
>>
>>20067401

We'll wait on building a new villa there until we have the rest of the brotherhood signed on.
>>
>>20067391

How are the constructions going? Maybe we should hire an master stonemason, to improve or accelerated the work on our castle and the Sept. Imagine the walls of our castle with stone carving.

>>20067416
A villa on the islands? Not an attractive place to spent the time, but a cheaper place where to resupply and repair is a good deal as any. I we could be offering a way to save them money.
>>
>>20067391

alright, we need to ask ourselves who's best suited to stewarding the isles for us, we need sound financial advisory, because we can't make decisions for them from here. Unless we want to head there for a few months and get things going, we can head back when Montelban's villa is done and be on time to meet him. If Ben says the city ran itself perhaps him and I should head to clawwater and leave the town to Caswell(is he the castellan?)
>>
>>20067482
We shouldn't base ourself out of the Crab Islands. We have a steward deal with the day to day stuff and send Ravens for important shit.

How good at finance is Sir Martin Crane?
>>
>>20067495

I know, Saltmouth is our seat, we should be there, but i'm just saying this is an option if people wish to pursue it.
>>
>>20067495

Nah, I prefer Saltmouth as our house. Its bigger and where most of our wealth comes from. But we should really do what >>20067329 said.
>>
By the time you leave the solar, much and more of your people are comfortable settled in. The Steel Guard is one more back in their barracks, and the Clawwater girls are in a pair of apartments two floors below you... You are unsure what to really do with them.

>>20067495
Crane is as educated as a Reach knight has any expectation to be. He isn't anywhere near as sharp as you... But as a lord, he would have a maester. And that would take a lot of the pressure off him. Besides, you could always offer "advice."
>>
>>20067631

Is there anyone we know who can do the job better and we can spare from being around us for the next few months? Can we hire a second maester for that town? Or do we need to make a lord there first?
>>
>>20067631
Who in our house, aside from Coyle, Ben and Reff, is skilled at finance?

Another Maester would run us 10 right?
>>
Also on a sidenote I know we wanted to start building an intelligence network with Lady Jeyne?
>>
>>20067654
It wouldn't really cost "us" anything, as Ser Crane would be spending his own coin on such a thing. A portion of tax would still flow to us, however.

But just because it was once our land, gfting it away means that it really isn't "ours" to meddle with on a daily basis anymore. We would have to trust Ser Crane. Which, I think, isn't really too much of a stretch. But his own improvements and developments would fall to him.
>>
>>20067631
>>20067648

No need to name anyone a lord now, we can put someone as Castellan for now and maybe elevate him or someone else later. He could have to follow our instructions but will have the freedom to deal with the little thing.
>>
>>20067730

We're not just giving away the keep, make him steward for now, find a good adviser we can trust.
>>
>>20067749
We're on page 11, we might want to archive this and lifeboat.
>>
You take your meal with Terris and Ben in the solar. It is a simple affair, but that doesn't matter. The three of you talk, asking Terris about the Vale and quizzing him about the great castles and fortresses, the famous lords of that great kingdom. He responds well, when he isn't stuffing his mouth with food.

Laying back into bed that night, you sprawl out into your own bed. It is a comfort, and a great one. You roll over onto your side, and stare at the bobbing sails of white in the bay. It is good to be home.
>>
>>20067730
Ask the future steward to gather a council of islanders to help him with the administration. Is there corporations there ? One for each of the local trades could be good.
They could make proposals for their activity's needs, and take care of the communication with the people.
>>
>>20067919
Good catch. Lifeboat made.

Get in here guys:
