Welcome!
Your ancestors slowly evolved sentience, ultimately culminating in you and your people. You live in a small tribe of your relatives and friends, and you are their chief.

Before we begin, lets answer some questions:

>What species are you?

>What is your name?

>What is the name of your tribe?
>>

Sorry, but I actually just have some questions for you.

Specifically, is there some context I'm missing? Are we supposed to invent any species at all, or is this part of some genre I'm not aware of that already has some general rules-of-thumb for species-making?
>>
rolled 26 = 26

we are kryptonian

I am ZOD

>>
>>20125181
Oh sorry about that.

You can pick any species, fictional or real, that has at least some intelligence. By species I also mean race.

Illithids

THE ALMIGHTY BRAIN

What use is a name to the Illithids, for what could the horrible guttural speak of lesser beings do to give it justice?
>>
Okay lets get some kind of consensus here.

First choice with three votes decides
>>
>>20125208
second for the silver age shenanigans and SICENCE!
>>
>>20125244

Second for Lovecraft knock-offs. I was going to suggest goblins, but I'd rather shore up the votes against Kryptonians. Kryptonians strike me as kind of dull. They're just regular people but stronger.
>>
>>20125360
smarter, faster, and religiously worship science like elder scrolls dwarfs.
>>
Okay we need a tie-breaker and then we can truely begin!
>>
I am an angel.

My name is Eo.

My tribe is Jehu.
>>
Ithillids are god tier
>>
Kryptonians for sure
>>
Eh, let's go with Illithids. Mite b cool
>>
I am bad at Illithid names. If we use me for Illithid names, we're going to be named Cthulhu Jr. and our tribe will be R'lyeh 2: Abyssal Boogaloo.

Okay and the illithids win with four votes

Your ancestors crawled out of the abyssal ooze milennia ago, yet your people remain scattered across this harsh world. You lead a small tribe of migratory illithids. The tribe consists of you, their chief, your two mates, five of your cousins, three elderly and three egg clutches.
Your name is THE ALMIGHTY BRAIN, or Brain for short.

Your tribe's name is incomprehensible in this language.
>>
>>20125573

Excellent. We loot the room.
>>
You are currently camped in a shallow cave at the base of a tall peak. The cave opens out into a large lake, filled with a large amount of fish and other creatures. A large Savannah stretches out past the cave.

What shall we do?
A. Scavenge for food.
B. Try to improve caves.
C. Try to improve weapons.
D. Research new technology.
E. Practice Magic.
F. Your Suggestion

Oh, for fuck's sake. I was looking forward to suggesting tribal warforged that had to carve and build new members out of their surrounding environment.

Do we have to conform to our D&D roots, or can we at least change that? Fucking illithids.
>>
D
Invent fire.

>That feel when your layout is being used by other people. Feels good.
>>

We from the future now.
>>
D. Research new technology.

Tools or such to gather resources such as Stone or wood.
>>
>>20125626
Aren't warforged also D&D however... Not saying that wasn't an awesome idea, just that either way we would conform to our D&D roots.

Could be worse though, we could of been Spess Muhreens.

>>
Fuck Illithids. I'm out.
>>
>>20125693
Warforged are also from D&D, yes, but they're not a species that has little to distinguish it from animals aside from brain-eating and evil.
>>

Listen, OP, I'm with this guy:
>>20125704

Next time you run one of these with an interesting race I might play, but you should have ruled out illithids with questgiver fiat.
>>
>>20125651
>>20125668

The tribe, during a spear making session, accidentally discovers when two rocks of a certain type are hit together, they create sparks. This leads to the invention of fire.

Fire dries out the illithids wet skin and can be dangerous to them.

Meanwhile, one of your egg clutches hatch into four babies.
Each of your wives lay another clutch.
(Egg cluthes are 1000s of eggs in a big mound, but only a few survive. Also need to be kept near water. Takes 3 months to hatch out between 0-5 babies, which mature to teenager levels in about a year.)
What shall we do?
A. Scavenge for food.
B. Try to improve caves.
C. Try to improve weapons.
D. Research new technology.
E. Practice Magic.

I was about to post Bedouin before op called Illithids.
>>
E
I mean, we ARE Illithids or whatever the fuck, they're good at psychic and magic shit right?

Also, I would never rule out any potential race, infact I like unique races more than generic ones. Hell, the first two threads I ever ran was on /b/, we had crabonians [crab people] and squidlizards [squid / lizard hybrids]
>>
>>20125668

We need Tech, can't stay tentacle cave people forever.

One day, whilst fishing, a tribesman discovers he can feel what the fish were feeling. He was able to exert control over the fish's mind and lured it to his spear. You now can control small animals.

A tribesman walking on the far side of the lake found an interesting plant. It can be weaved together to form a heavy cloth. The tribe calls it sailweed and begins making a variety of containers and clothes from it.

Whilst fishing, our best psychic happened across a large reptilian creature. It has 6 legs and a large frill down it's back. It is also aquatic. The psychic manages to gain control of the creature. it is now our pet

Another egg clutch is due, but nothing hatches.

Slowly, your tribe begins to build up a large wall made of refuse the mouth of the cave, sealing it off but for a illithid sized hole to the side. Around the hole, another wall is built. Against this outer wall is placed several outdoor structures.

The reptile brings its handler to the part of the lake where more can be found. two females are taken.

Both clutches of eggs hatch, and 7 new illithids are welcomed into the tribe.

You explore past the lake's shore line. To the east, it starts to become more wooded. To the west, it becomes drier. Large animals of many types are witnessed on this trek, however many are larger than you.Whether they have hair, feathers, or scales, most of the creatures feed on the fast growing grass here.

The lizards lay hundreds of eggs the size of your fist. They are delicious. Two thirds are eaten, leaving about 150 to the beasts to incubate.

Ten female and two male lizards are born. The older females lay another large clutch. This time, the illithids have built nest for them along with crude pens and shelters. A scout is sent out to explore the savannah. He arrives back earlier than expected, carrying a strange tool. A Moose-bird's antler has been shaped in to a rounded shape. it is called a pickaxe by your people. More are created from scavenged antlers, as moose-birds have six they shed monthly. With these new tools, the inside of the caves are over-hauled. The walls are smoothed and individual warrens are created as rooms. Rope is created to hold together the walls better. The pickaxe is found to be a descent weapon, but a modified axe is created that is better.

Five of each gender of lizard hatch.

On the horizon, a large dust cloud is sighted.

(I have to sleep. thanks for the fun guys, I'll be back tomorrow.)
