>http://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/20129990/ - Summoned Hero Ch.2

LAST TIME ON SUMMONED HERO CHAPTER 2, you had a discussion with Cadencia all the way through the Vernegard Forest about how the world works, magic, and other Summoned Heros. You found out that your the latest Summoned Hero in the ENTIRE world because they have shit luck with heroes. The last one was killed by a band of three monsters in the Underworld. Now, you finally made it to the central city of Vernegard. You now sit in Cadencia's house, reading a book revolving around the last Hero, the last summoned one, that is.
--------------

The text in front of you tells of a man by the name of Abner Baxter, a participate in World War I. Of course, he was with the United State. He recalled the sound of gun fire, death as far as the eye could see. He doesn't illustrate details about the battle or the conditions, he just reported about his current situation. He mentioned being inside of a pit. He tried to save a friend, he screamed out. That's all he remembered. Next, he found himself in an ocean of blue, transported away from his life on that world and taken to this one.

"SO it's not as I thought..." you place the book down on the tablet and sit up from the chair. You look around, Cadencia is nowhere to be found. "Dammit." you mutter and walk on over to the window to look at the workings of the city outside.

> What to do?
>>
>>20176571

Try and find some books regarding how magic works in that world. Also, look up some stuff about those three monsters that killed the last hero.
>>
Think about rabbits and moon
>>
>>20176571

Kill yourself.
>>
And I wondered if it was still going.
>>
>>20176571
We need to read more about the other summoned Guardian too.
Also anything we can find about the summoning.

Most important is if we really did ask for this or not.
And it's looking like we might have.
>>
>>20176625
Yes, yes, contacting the Lunarians and getting access to their advanced technology, and finding out if they have portal magic, is on our list.
But we have more immediate concerns, such as "Did we ask for this" and "Can I case Fireball"?

You sit back down in the seat, and open the recorded journal up once more. You try and find some new information, maybe something between the lines but you get absolutely nothing. "Huh." you set the book down and move on over to the bookshelf. You wade through the labels of each book, trying to find the one that you can understand. Well, you find something, but it isn't what you expect. Apparently, if this journal is from the last hero, it's written in a language from home. Japanese. "Gahh." you place the journal down on the table and shake your head.

"Okay, that's out, how about the summoning?" you look at the books again. You don't understand shit. Strange symbols, the same ones that were written on the magic glyph when you were summoned. Nothing. Nothing. AND nothing.

"GAhhh! Fucking magic language." you slam the book on the table and on top of the other two. You sigh in defeat, sit down and lean back on the chair with your hands behind your head.

>Wait for Cadencia to get back so she can read this book to you
>Try and figure out the language yourself
>Take a nap, you're tired
>What to do?
>>
Use magic to read magic runes or look for book that translates magic runes
>>
>>20176837
Try to figure out the language ourselves.
There must be some kind of translation going on; we were able to communicate with that other Guardian and Master just fine in whatever language they spoke.
>>
>>20176837
Wait, if we could recognize the writing as Japanese, does that mean we know SOME Japanese? Can we still attempt to read it?

"At this rate I'd appreciate Google Translate." you sigh in dejection. Cadencia wouldn't be back for a while, so waiting for her to come and read this stuff to you was out of the question. "I can create swords, guns and gauntlets but I can't understand a language? Being a Guardian kind of sucks if I can't EVEN READ." you hit the desk with a closed hand. "Huff." you open up the book that you believe is about summoning, and look at the text. Another sigh, you put the book away. You look at the Japanese journal and open it up.

...

You don't recognize any of the characters, it looks almost ancient. "... Man'yƍgana" you mutter, placing the book down. "Yeah, this world hates me. It really does." you open up the summon book again and start reading.

"The summoning ritual- wait, what?" unknown to you, your eyes are glowing a faint blue. "I can understand it now? No, it's more like my mind is translating it for me. How the hell..."

The energy aborbed through the weapon had absorbed the 'experience' of the previous hero, but not the memories. Why it activated now, of all times, is unknown but it's convenient.

You sigh once more. You take a look at the book and flip through the pages. The summoning ritual doesn't tamper with the memories of the victim. It doesn't mention the specifications for the target of the spell. From what you can gather, however, is that those who are summoned, it's during great distress. They're not willing, but the spell seems to work on 'living here is better than dying there'. "It would help if I could remember why I'm here in the first place. Was I about to die or something? Shit."

You place the book down. That's the only useful information in there. The rest was about conducting the ritual and you didn't have the mind to comprehend that. You could read the language, but you couldn't understand the magic.

>What to do?
>>
>>20176995
Write the thing down for later reference, first of all.
>>
>>20176995
Now that the translation magic seems to be running, take this opportunity to read through the Japanese journal, which I assume is from Vernangard's first summoned Guardian.

Also, so it does seem like the parameters of the summon were 'imminent death on Earth', so we did kind of choose.
>>
Read stars beacuse why not?

>>20177035
It's still daytime; there's no stars visible right now.
That's why not.
>>
>>20176995
>They're not willing, but the spell seems to work on 'living here is better than dying there'
Do the books say if there's any kind of subconscious confirmation, or maybe if the spell does your basic "Do you want to live?" "YES!" "Then form a contract." kind of deal?

From Abner's journal, it sounds like he was either in a trench or an artillery crater in No Man's Land, and he was about to get killed by an artillery shell when he was summoned.

"Huff." you think about writing the stuff from the book down, but that would just be a waste of time. A thought passes through your head. You can absorb your weapons THAT way. You reach your hand out and grip the book. It disappears in a plum of white light, and it's added to your 'inventory' along with your three weapons. "That's handy."

You flip open the previous Journal of the first hero. A man caught in a dispute between two families. He tried to play the mediator and he almost ended up getting killed. About to die one night, he remembered that white light and he was brought forth to here. Entirely unremarkable, considering the second hero participated in a war. Both ahve the common theme of 'wanting to live' some how, some way, so perhaps the summoning is answered through the subconcious rather than words? If that's true, then why were you summoned? And the language this is written in, what you remember from this type of writing, must have been from 700 some AD onward, back on your world. How old is the summoning ritual? That question repeats in your head.

You force the book on summoning to appear again. You flip through the pages, trace back for the information and there's no information on the formation of the ritual. Is the Starheaven as old as these people think it is? Somethings didn't make sense now.

>What to do?
>>
Modifity ritual and summon familiar.

>>

Alright. We might have been involved in a mugging gone wrong, or a car accident. Maybe we were even just bored with our life back in the other world.

Regardless of the exact circumstances, we did ask for this, in a sense.

Let's take a look at the books on magic again, and see if there's something like "Apprentice's Uplifting Primer" or something similar to start learning the basics of how magic works.
>>
>>20177106
Test the extent of our "inventory".
>>
>>20177060
>>20176995

Looks like being summoned is somewhat similar to Solar Exaltation, only that you seem to have more of a say in the matter.
>>
>>20177135
That seems like it is way, way WAY out of our league.

It's like the difference between understanding how electricity works and being able to build a railgun out of a toaster.

See ((>>20176995)) for evidence.
>>
>>20177166
> not being able to build a railgun from scratch
>>
>>20177150
Since that seems to be the case from the first-hand recollections of the two others who were summoned, seems like we should work with Cadencia in a more cooperative manner.

Also, do any of the books mention what exactly the Guardian-Master relationship is supposed to be, or how the phrasing came about?
Because if it's just old terminology because the spell is an offshoot of the more traditional familiar summoning spell (where animals are summoned), and the current social view of the relationship is closer to 'buddy-cop movie', then complaining about it is like being one of those people from a few years back who complained about the Master-Slave terminology concerning hard drives promotes slavery and racism.

"Alright, I can't do magic... or I don't understand it, so I better find something to work with." the book in your hand vanishes into blue light. You walk on over and scan the bookshelf for something else. Your pointer and middle finger dance along from book to book until you find what you're looking for. "Got it." you pull it up, set it on the table and sit down again.

You begin reading. Your mind immediately compares the way magic works here to some sort of coding. There are different langauges for different spells. Each increases in complexity and there are various kinds. The Starheaven is basically just one big OS and magic are the programs that run it. Simple enough to understand. Or rather, they allow someone to interact and manipulate it. Lower level magic can perform things that are possible in nature. Fire balls, air, water, accelerated healing. Higher level spells make the impossible possible, such as teleportation, summoning, and other things of the variety.

"Okay, I understand that, now onto the tiers.. wait, tiers?" you read on about the tiers of each spell. Outer Tier is what dictates the type of spell, the target, and depending on what language it's in, what can be achieved with the spell. Tier 1 dictates the intensity of the spell. Tier 2 dictates the 'containment' or 'how much this is going to hurt/heal/cost'. The tiers keep going on and on, all the way up to 100 in increasing detail and your head spins completely around. "Okay, okay, I got the basics..."

Upon further inspection, there are 'runes' created for those who can't use magic that act like 'spells in a can' and they're automatically used with just a little bit of life force.

"Oh man my head hurts."

You take a break from the spell research and pull out the Summoner book again. You look back on the Master-Guardian relationship and concerning you and Cadencia. Apparently, the spell is used to bind the two for life. Whether or not the two get together is up to the Guardian, but a majority of the time the two will have offspring which is then bound to a powerful magus rather than a summoner. It's to keep the lineage going.

"Alright, I get it..."

See if there are any books on the Lunarians and their technology/magic.
Also, see if there's a book on recent history; did Abner introduce some of his Yankee ingenuity and technology to Vernangard?
Like, simple guns, or steam power, machine tools?

Check for books about magic langauges

Spaghetti from our pockets?
Fuck, we're lucky that Cadencia was pushed into this entire deal and apparently only read up on the application of the summoning spell, rather than the historical context of it.

We would have been the Exxon Pastez, with a spaghetti spill to feed the entire Third World until they'd rather starve than eat another bite of pasta.

Wait, wait, guys. I got an idea.
Magic in this world is like computer programming, right?
But unless the Lunarians happen to have integrated circuits, no one has computers.

What if we built a difference engine? One that can be fed punch cards of spell fragments and then spits out fully-formed spells.
A steam-powered magic engine.

Sure, it would take a while, but it's an idea, right?

"Sigh." you absorb that book into your 'inventory'. "Hmm..." you place a hand on the desk. "GGhhkkk..." you focus all your might into activating the power, but it just doesn't work. It seems to only be limited into the weapons you've created and things that can easily be handled in your hands. "Depressing." you move up from the desk and go back to looking for the books that you need. Through the shelf you go, trying to locate a book on Lunarians and their technology. "Alright, here we go." you grab it and sit back in the chair once more. You get your read on!

The Lunarians are a species that set up shop on the moon about five-thousand years ago before the Ascent. You put together what that might mean in your head. The floating islands, it was to get away from all of that shit happening on the ground, which is now the 'Underworld'. The Lunarians set up shop on the moon and used some type of weird magic/technology to sustain life up there. The more you read, the more intrigued you were. It describes the Lunarians as the most advanced, the people on the Floating Isles as medium and the Underworld and the Diya as idiots. It literally uses the words 'a bunch of idiots.' Whoever wrote this book was classy indeed. They have machines and things that remind you of mecha. They have flying tanks, spaceships, the whole nine yeards.

"FUCK YES!" you stand up with the book in hand! You couldn't contain your excitement. If they were this advanced, then why didn't they help the planet? You remember the little ine about 'idiots' and immediately realize that they're PROBABLY full of themselves and think themselves higher. "Great." you place the book down and sigh.

There are something things you still have to read up on. You grab two more books regarding two 'simple' magic languages, one titled Zelfine and the other Ursorose. Zelfine works on the concept of 'being' or 'self' and it's simple because they're spells used only to improve the body. Such as heightened regeneration, a strength boost and a way to simulate food or 'feeding' the body. Ursuros, on the other hand, was a bit harder to understand. It was the same as Zelfine, but it added more Tiers to the spell. Like full healing, SUPER strength and speed. Heightened senses and understanding. You probably couldn't do them without practice, but you read over each book at least twice. An hour and a half passed without you knowing it. With some practice and your understanding of Zelfine, some low level spells become possible.

"Alright, I better get off my ass and go find-"

"Cadencia?" there she was. The blonde haired, blue-eyed girl that was your summoner walks in. She places two bags down on the floor. She reaches in one of them and throws you an apple. You catch it, take a bite and sit back down in your chair. "Did you find out what you wanted to know?"

"Mostly, yeah, thanks for letting me have some of these books."

"Borrow, you're returning them to me when you go home." Cadencia walks forward, takes a seat on the bed and stretches.

"Right..."

Do others think we should tell her that the summoning was different from what we thought it was and that we're willing to work with her now?
Apologizing for everything is too much, but maybe we shouldn't harp about the Master/Guardian thing anymore. It makes us look kind of stupid and backwards, since it's completely different than what we thought it was.

"Wait, let's see if we can learn anything about them first. We shouldn't charge right into a fight before we can stack everything in the deck in our favor. 'The exceptional general achieves victory before the battle is even joined', as Sun Tsu said." you say with a hint of pride.

"Who's Sun Tsu?"

"It doesn't matter." you cut to the chase and look to the bookshelf. You grab the journal from the previous hero that was summoned. You grab it, throw it down onto the table and start reading. The Guardian before you examined the Remnants and their ways of attacking. Aranaman the Dayeater devours all light within its wake, creating a perpetual darkness. Maougren will attack from the darkness with its many, many arms. Ahanati will start draining the target with its vampiric bite before all of its life is gone. He recorded this just before he died at their hands, going to go get revenge for kill his comrades, that is. Aranaman is a large, bipedal lizard. Ahanati is a small, human sized creature that has a 'crab-like' walk. Maougren is the largest of the three with its floating-island like body. There are no weak points presented, but if you can take out Ahanati, the battle will be much easier. You repeat all of this to Cadencia who nods in response.

"I can isolate Ahanati with a binding spell. If these notes are right and it's human sized, that won't be a problem. However, I'll have to leave Aranaman up to you. I'll try and keep Maougren at bay with magic projectiles. You can probably deal the finishing blows to those two... hm.. this can work!" Cadencia claps her hands together in excitement.

From what you knew, Aranaman and Maougren were HUGE and Ahanati was small and quick. Probably even faster than your bullets could shoot. That was bad. "Do you have any spells that could provide light when Aranaman eats it?"

"They won't work, Aranaman will just devour it and make him stronger. I even heard he shoots it back out in a concentrated beam if he gets enough."

"Tch... what about something that can heighten my senses. I just got done reading about Ursorose and those kinds of spells. You could do that effect one me, right?"

"I could. That would help you avoid Maougren's aerial attacks. And destroy Aranaman as FAST as you can. If not, I think we're both going to die. Wait, I know we're both going to die if we don't do something about that lizard."

"Tch-"

Boom.

Boom. Boom.

"What... was that?"

"I think we're out of time." Cadencia's eyes widen.

Have Candencia cast some spells to increase our hearing and our speed, then go to a window and try to see where they're attacking.
We need to get out there and kill Aranaman as fast as possible.
Go with a basic plan of:
Candencia binds Ahanati then starts trying to contain Maougren with magic missiles. We'll go in and attack Aranaman. First try a long-range attack via assault rifle, then charge in with our zweihander.

"Oh well, time to save the day."
>>
"Oh well, time to save the day. Hey, Cadencia, come here. Cast those spells on me. Speed and hearing." you walk on over to Cadencia so she can prepare the spells. However, in her own mind, she puts together the Outer Tier, the language, and each tier afterward in just a few seconds. First, she places her hands on your ears. Her hands glow a fight white. The next second, your entire body blasts with the same faint light that circulates form her hands into your body. It feels light, as if your floating.

"That's all I need. Thanks." with that, you run to look out the window. In the distance, a large lizard that easily towers over the land at around eighty, one-hundred feet. A large shadow that projects itself to the ground, that was Mougren. It's pink, fleshy arms drag along the ground by the thousands. The small one was nowhere to be found. "I've gotta move." you move from the window and run as fast as you can. Out the door you go, progressing through the main plaza of Vernegard and across the plains. Your legs were a blur, your run was fluid and you didn't miss a step.

Ahanati was around here somewhere. The large lizard hasn't noticed you yet and Maougren was too high in the air to attack you now.

Cadencia was following close behind, so she could probably handle the quick Remnant.

Okay, he's considerably larger than I thought he was.

Let's get around to behind them, then jump onto the lizard's back. We climb up and start digging our way into his brain stem.

Anyone have any better ideas?

Start working from a distance, notice, how it they move and try to find weak spots. Joints and similar. Start shooting them from afarand when he is starting to go down move in close with the zweihander.
>>
I want something that can make us fly.
Like a hoverboard of sorts.

Given how big he is, I don't think that our 7.62WP assault rifle has enough dakka for that plan to work.
Wish we could materialize a Javelin, or even an M72. Hell, I'd be happy with a Panzerfaust.

Though if we attack at the backs of the knees, we might be able to disable the joints and cause him to come crashing down.
>>

But it is a magical 7.62WP! That should count for something!

"RAAAAAoooooooooooo!" Aranaman lets out its roar. Then, it begins to inhale. From the corner of your eye you see the unnatural darkness setting in. It corrodes your eyes, devours your surroundings and now, you're trapped in eternal darkness. "That was sooner than I thought." you grab your assault rifle. You know the general direction Aranaman is coming from, and he's a large target. You open fire for a minute, and soon realize that your bullets are doing shit. You don't have to hear it, you realize it from the sound of Aranaman's foot steps.

"D-DAMMIT!" you quickly move back. With your heightened speed, you narrowly avoid Ahanati's curved-blade.

"Kekeke." she makes a laughing noise. She weaves back and forth, her long, black hair waving in the air.

Ahanati strikes again. She leaps into the air and comes down, spinning like a buzzaw.

>What do you do?
>>
>>20178112
Ahanati's vector is already determined.
Using our speed to our advantage, launch ourselves towards Aranaman with our Zweihander braced against us.
When the blade sinks in, we can launch ourselves up to try to cut up the lizard's face.
>>
>>20178112
Spin like a buzzaw back. We have a zweihander, its reach is about as long as its possible to get a sword. We should have the advantage.
>>
>>20178215
Possibly while SCREAMING at the tops of our lungs.
We're the hero here and gotta leave an impression.
>>
Raise your sword vertically and impale the thing with its own momentum. It's airborne, so its trajectory is more or less fixed.
>>
>>20178225
Dont scream its stupid
>>
>>20178225
No screaming please.
>We're the hero here and gotta leave an impression.
That's similar to the kind of thinking that got the previous Guardian turned to bloody paste.
>>
>>20178298
B-but...
Okay, you might have a point there.
Once we hit flesh, it might be prudent to empty our guns into the thing at close range.

You didn't have to bother with Ahanati. You hear the whirling of her blades, she couldn't change direction. "Got ya!" you hear Cadencia's voice far off. A white serpent bursts forth from the ground, wrapping around Ahanati's own bladed hands."

"KEKEKE!?" it falls into the ground, leaving a small crater.

"I was right! Anon, it doesn't eat day light, it only devours the light coming into your eyes if you look into the mouth!" Cadencia says, eyes closed. "Keep going after Aranaman, I got this one."

A white blade appears above the bladed-armed creature. "KEKEKEKE!" The glowing energy sword skewers the laughing, deformed woman. Black blood splatters upon the dead ground. "GO!"

"Taking my fun."

>It isn't dead, you have to destroy it yourself, you're the Hero after all
>Leave Cadencia to it, she's responsible and your Summoner, she can handle it herself
>What to do?
>>
>>20178362
Let Cadencia handle it; we've got an Oxygen Destroyer to deliver.

So as long as we don't look at the mouth, we can still see? Makes things easier.

Let's see if we can run around behind the lizard and slice his Achille's tendon with our zweihander.

Toppling Godzilla sounds good.
>>
You bend your legs downward, gathering up all of your energy to push yourself forward and straight at the lizard. Your vision clears up little by little. You grip the Zweihander on your back and hold it outward with both hands. You tighten your grip as you approach the monster. Your eyes fall on the back of its legs.

You hear Cadencia mutter a spell from aways behind you. A shower of red pummels the tentacles that lunge forward to attack. They never hit their target, you, and instead fall to the ground lifeless. You run faster than before.

"RAOooooooo!" the lizard roars again and moves one of its legs up to stomp you into the ground. You have the advantage in speed and avoid the attack. You leap forward, closing the space one last time. "HAAAH!" you spin the sword around and flood it with energy. Blue liquid seeps off the sword. You cut into the back of its heel. The blade rips through due to the speed and the power up through your own life energy.

>Follow up with?
>>
>>20178622
Follow up by jumping up to it's back and driving our zweihander into its spine. Once its severed, jump up again to the top of the head, then run along it and drive our sword into its eyes.

Be brutal. Be efficient. Be merciless.
>>
I'm getting Shadow of Collosus vibes here.
>>
>>20178667
We might want to aim for the neck of this thing...
>>
>>20178759
Go for a decapitation?
I suppose we can try that when we jump up.
Decapitate, and if it doesn't work, we go for the eyes.
>>
"I'm going to end it now!" you run around at blinding speeds and leap up into the air. While keeping your footing along its back, you drive the two-handed sword into its spine. You ascend the creature's back, the blade ripping into its muscles. Blood blasts outward and rains upon the ground below. Only a moment passes, and the back is severed. "HAH!" you leap high into the air and ontop of its head. You race forward and drive the blade into both of its eyes. With a twist, you kick off its head and fall all the way to the ground.

Aranaman, with its eyes gouged out and its spine unusable, falls backward into a pull of its own blood. "I did it, now I have to..." you look up, straight at Maougren, who yells out in pain.

It glows red with anger, releasing a scarlet fume into the air.

"You've gotta be kidding me."

>releasing a scarlet fume into the air.
Chemical warfare?
Abner's journal didn't say anything about this!

Anyway, OP, when are you going to run this next?
>>
>>20179044

Probably tomorrow at around noon, if I don't then the next day.
>>
So, I have to say that we seem to be making more progress now that we're not being a manipulative douchebag, an angsty little bitch, or a retard.
