The creature pictured here is an Omnimute. A curious species that possesses the unique ability to evolve in the space of a single /tg/ post.

Omnimutes of all different colours are spawning in the same pool and it's up to you to decide how they grow, adapt and eventually conquer the ecosystem.

The Ghillie Omnimute is a mud-and-water dwelling creature with plant-like tendrils for camouflage, an omnivorous diet, and strong nut-cracking jaws. It is still small, roughly three times as big as a normal omnimute.

Eventually, these individual nodules fuse into a nerveless cape along the Purple Omnimute's back. This cape starts to collect photosynthetic algae through the host's life-time and a symbiotic relationship emerges.

Unfortunately, this leaves the Purple Omnimute vulnerable to potential algae-feeding parasitic Omnimutes.

Clompers are cow-sized herbivores.
Flippers are small, aquatic herbivores. They need to travel to the surface for air from time to time.
Clippers are small, carnivorous Omnimutes. The travel in schools and pick apart larger creatures.
As like last time, feel free to branch off of mine. All are quite near-sighted.

The Scala variant surges! A distended stomach allows it to alter it's body balance easily, making it extremely mobile(though a tad bit slower). Said stomach can store food and nutrients for up to 3 days.

Meet the Companimute. It evolved as a small pack animal, that later gained a symbiotic relationship with other Ominmute descendants.
It has evolved an organ that enables it to sense the host biological sign's. In the pack, the animals have a social status, and they communicate through the extensive use of color changeing cromatophores. They use colors to communicate with their host.
The Companimutes in their current state have 3 adult fenotypes. The first one has enchanted senses allowing this type to sense the environment better. Because companimutes are dispersed over the hosts body, basically this may give a host a view of 360 degrees (this includes chemical reception, hearing and movement reception). The second phenotype excels at what all the companimutes do, cleans the host of dead tissue and parasites. Their strong chompers may be used in defending of the host. The real defenders are the 3rd phenotype. These companimutes have evolved acid glands which makes their heads bigger. They may spit this acid over nasty parasites, or anything that dares to hurt their host.

Good riddance, tail! The Scala drastically reduces it's tail size, it's bigger back...flippers? enable greater thrust and mobility than it's previous incarnation. Mostly because the tail kept getting on it's way.

The Paramute evolved from the Companimute through neoteny. A Paramute looks like a juvenile Companimute, smells like one, communicates like one. However it is a solitary and very nasty parasite. Here is the lifecycle of the Paramute:
The adult exo parasite lays an egg into the host's skin. This egg releases the vermiform larva, that lives in the lower layers of the skin. Through its maturation the vermiform larva goes deeper, and enters the body cavity. There it matures into the Redia stage, which produces clones of itself in the form of larval exoparasites. The mature redia travels to the skin, and releases the larvae from a rupture it creates. Most of the clones die if an adult Companimute is around the time the rupture forms, but some always escape and hide among the ranks of larval Companimutes.

I would imagine Omniputes reproduce much like most Earth fish, eggs and external fertilisation. It makes perfect sense for landborne Clompers to develop sexual reproduction and hard-shelled eggs.
Though they're still naturally ectothermic and will need to find a better source of heat for incubation than nest-sitting.

The Paramute's lifecycle changes. The rediae produce an egg instead of an exoparasite larva. These eggs are released into the digestive tract, and leave the hosts body. They hatch when a host with a colony of Companimutes is near. The hatched larval exoparasitic Paramutes try to get on the host, and integrate into the Companimute swarm.

New "gills" emerge around the distended stomach! these gills enable the Scala to control it's body balance even more easily! please do note that these gills do not lead to a secondary respiratory system, but to a "sac" of water to the sides of the stomach controlled by a muscular system. The sac of water becomes smaller as the Scala accumulates more and more food, making it a tastier and slower target the more it's been nourished.

Due to Ghillies eating their eggs, Clompers have taken to guarding their nest sites. The mother chases approaching creatures away from her nest, only leaving it occasionally for food and drink.

A new fenotype emerges within the Companimute swarms. This is an overgrown neotenic larva, that has developed an advanced host sensing system. This system basically anchors the individual, as tentacles from the underside penetrate the host skin for a more accurate host status analysis. The anchored companimutes are fed by the community.

All of a sudden, omniweed appears. Also known as cthulhumute.

A deepwater mute that lives among the seaweed at the bottom of the ocean. With paralyzing fins protuding around its mouth and back and highly sensitive fins working as eyes.

It "hunts" by camouflaging itself among the seaweed, lying in wait until a creature swims into its back fins,paralyizing themselves and alerting the mute, who then eats it.

To ensure enchanted survival, another larval type has appeared, the cercaria. These hatch from the eggs of the redia. There two different types of cercaria. One is an aquatic phenotype the other forms on land. The aquatic one swims and searches for a host that travels through water. Attaches itself to it, and releases an exo larva. The land type is a jumper larva. It waits for a host to pass by, jumps over it, and attaches to the skin.

The Paramute develops an alternative 3rd larval stage. Upon reaching the host, some cercaria transfrom into an infective stage, and drill through the host's skin. This usually happens when there are a lot of Companimutes around, and there is no time to release a 4th larval stage. If they succeed in piercing the host's skin, they release a 1st stage vermiform larva as an asexual reproductive route.

Now living in groups, the Ghillie develops sexual dimorphism! Females become larger, and the tendrils of the male change colors. There are 1~3 dominant males in each group, marked by their bright red tendrils.

Only the females and non-dominant males hunt.

The Ghillies grow claws on their back feet. The females, being larger, begin preying on the Clompers directly. They work in packs to single out a Clomper, then use their jaws to crush its windpipe.

Males and Juvenile Females still steal eggs.

Dominant Males don't hunt but, like all Ghillies, occasionally graze for nuts.

A new phenotype emerges from the ranks of the Companimutes. These individuals have developed longer body appendages and a membrane connecting them. This membrane is thin, bit is filled with the cromathophores of the companimutes make extensive use of. A few of these individuals covering an are of the host can give it a visual camouflage, a lot of them can change the entire color of the skin of the host.

The the companimute phenotype with the ability to connect develops a larger brain, as they start to act as central information hubs for the swarm. This helps them to gain more information regarding their host's status too.

With no real need for movement, the dominant male Ghillie settles even more in to it's roll as lookout and host. It feeds and interfaces with the Companimutes better but can only move at a slow waddle.

They can live with any Omnimute descendant, but their descendants tend to live on the same species resulting in species specific strains. The color depicted here is a standard one, however they are color changers and usually use colors that go well with their host.
They have a respiratory system that works well on land, but can be used under water, so underwater symbiotic relationships are possible too (but under water the acid producing companimutes cannot spit).
The Paramutes are omnivores regarding omnimutes.
