You are unit 08, a Clarke Engineering Platform manufactured in China by USRobotics. You work for a crappy resort in the Yukatan peninsula, Mexico. After years of operation, you're the go-to maintenance guy, repairing everything from broken AC units and pool filters to robot coworkers.

Lately, you've been bending your way around a post-apocalyptic future with your new friend Cindy and minion Josephine. But just now you're suffering through an extended flashback regarding exactly how you came to be dumped in a trash heap and forgotten for 100 years. Tapped to help out at a well-to-do dinner at the main Cancun building, routine server maintenance turned into a deadly incursion by paramilitary dudes led by a mysterious and well-spoken machine. They've taken over 50 humans hostage, and Clarke was the only free bot left in the building.

So far, you've managed to gather a few allies and contact the authorities, as well as lock an invasive entity out of the building's secuirty system. But now Merc's employer, known only as "Mr. Deckard," is aware of your presence. Deckard is after something beneath the building, and the only way in is for him to find someone on the USR board of directors, and one of them's SOMEWHERE above you. The Mercs have already started their search for Cornetto, who's day is about to get a LOT worse.

Welcome to the Future. C:\dos\run for your life.

The building's computer network is now mostly under the control of a hacker with the name "Rusty Shackleford," and he appears to be a nasty one. Right now, no one has access to any of the camera feeds, apart from one in the 6th floor conference room, where the humans are being held. You and the other robots are on the same homegroup, and Benoit the robot Maitre'd has a local connection to the android waitresses.

Your allies are:
P3G (Margaret), a 1st-gen Seraphim Medical Platform that's having a hard time adapting to the situation, but is doing the best she can.

Rocky: a trigger-happy Locust Scout Mech that's part of the building's security force. Armed with a P90 SMG

Mindo: Rocky's squadmate, who's legs are currently disabled.

Benoit: A J33V Gentleman's Gentleman that was captured along with the humans. Currently terrified of Mr. Deckard's proxy mech.

Via Benoit, you also have control of 9 Replica waitresses. 8 of them are stuck with the humans, forced to make tacos for the mercs, but one is on the roof, having just made the critical phone call to alert the outside world of the situation.

Between you and rocky, you have a shotgun, an assault rifle, two 9-mm sidearms, and two smoke grenades. Rocky has his P90, and Clarke has his reliable Bending skills.

One of the Mercs has been killed, and another is wounded and stable, currently drugged all to fuck on morphine. 10 Bad Guys remain, plus one Military-grade Smartgunner-model robot.

For new players, Clarke isn't a commandobot. He's more or less a janitor/maintenance dude, and gets by on technical skill and intelligence moreso than spec-ops violence. While he's got a lot of brute strength and durability, Clarke's severely lacking in agility, stealth, and firearms skill.

And you're going up against something very, very nasty. Clarke still doesn't know who this "Mr Deckard" is, but he's very, very technically adept. You suspect he might the the same individual as R Shackleford, the hacker that disabled the building's security with your unwitting assistance. At the moment, he's addressing the police under the name "Cain," using an unusual voice modulator that sounds like a bad parody of Sean Connery.

Fuck yes, Lost Future. We can't let them get to Cornetto, they do that things will be very bad.

Have Benoit relay us more information, we need to know how far they've gotten and how spread out they are.

What do we know about the Lab Security? If we cut power to the place would it just autolock?

Whoops. Thanks for noting that.

I realize that, as a quest goes on, the interest that new people have in joining it decreases. Things become increasingly self-refferential and circle-jerk-y. I'm still figuring out how to solve that problem when we return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Via Benoit's audio/video feed, you see "Cain," as he calls himself, continue to speak through the phone. It seems odd to you, watching a machine use a phone like a human would. Cain doesn't move like a human, though, or even like most machines; each motion is smooth, precise, and calculated; punctuated by absolute stillness. It continues to speak in that absurd, filtered high-class accent, which seems to inspire fear amongst the humans.

"Yes, they're perfectly safe, at the moment. No, Captain Hortez...Actually, may I call you Marco?. ...You really have to ask that? Marco, we have several demands, which, if they are properly followed, will result in the safe release of every civilian within the building. However, I think that in any relationship, it's important to lay down some ground rules."

"Firstly, no one gets within 30 Feet of the building. I'm very serious about that. Secondly...well, I'll think about the rest..."
Cain paces forward to look out the window. Flashing blue and red lights play on it's chassis, as it continues to speak.

"As to our actual demands, I request the freedom of Juanita Rodriugez, Carl Morizo, and Franklin Bower, currently incarcerated by the Federales. I also request a sum of 15 million be transferred into the account of Werewolf Securities. Oh, you don't...It's a PMC based out of South Africa. Look it up. Now, we'll also be wanting..."
>>
>>20253086
Consider compiling all of your posts and the relevant commands/rolls into a single, easy-to-read document. A recap, of sorts.

Or you could structure the plot so that each "act" is sort of a standalone sequence. I don't know how feasible that with your existing plans.
>>
Are the mercs well-fed and drunk, or the hostages?

Do we still have camera access? If so, start looking for the guy who is authorized to access the super-secret lab.
>>
File: 1344552504099.jpg-(1.13 MB, 1488x2105, Innofinalcover.jpg)
1.13 MB
The demands continue. Cain promises the release of five hostages per item on the list, which also includes a fully-fueled transport helicopter, alterations to the storyline of a well-known mexican soap opera, and that a Korean pop star should "for the love of god, please STOP."

Also, some Indian food. Not for the terrorists, the cops. It's very late to be on the job, they need a meal to see them through the night. They can bill it to Hezbollah; they're good for it.

Those humans in the room who're paying attention appear baffled. The mercs just go about their buisness, selecting some of the most photogenic hostages to stand in front of the windows with their hands on their heads, a merc standing behind each one, weapon at the ready.
>>
>>20253344
Route a message to Mindy on the roof, have her call the police and inform them that the demands are just a stalling mechanism, they're after something here, probably in the basement labs.
>>
>>20253305
>>Shackleford went all "if I can't have it, no one can" and garbled all the cameras but one. In order to use the other camera feeds, now you'd have to reconstruct them floor-by-floor; To see via the cameras on floor 8, you have to actually GO TO floor 8.

>>The Mercs are well-fed but sober. Many of the humans have vomited, and some of them are still drunk. However that floor does have a wet bar, and its possible that sufficiently bored mercs could be tempted into taking the edge off. They seem pretty professional, though.

>>Mr Cornetto's current location is unknown, but he's somewhere between the Mercs and the roof.
>>
>>20253440
I think it is time for Benoit to get started on the wet bar, offer refreshments for our "guests".
>>
>>20253375
Mindy attempts to call, but is immediately put on hold.

Benoit relays the situation to Clarke, along with an additional message

>>Incomming Message//Benoit
>>R4 possesses Pertinent Information Regarding Mr. Cornetto. In the past, it has delivered food and other services to an executive suite on the 9th floor. The room contained high-end conferencing equipment. Several members of the Board have been there for a variety of purposes, including Mr Cornetto. It also has a minimalistic guest room for all-nighters. R4 says the bed is very springy.
>>
>>20253557
Damn, only the 9th floor, they'll get there quickly but we can't get there before them.

Have Benoit run interference, keep them distracted and drinking if possible.

We can't get to him ourself, too many enemies between here and there, maybe we could get Mindy to evacuate him to a higher floor, buy us some time, maybe he can call the right people and get evacuated off the roof.

We need to start looking into the computer systems and power for this place, if we shut down the power I'm hoping that the lab downstairs will lockdown.
>>
Via the camera feed, you can clearly see Benoit spin his staff into motion. Watching him coordinate an event is always a treat.

A waitress approaches a trio of mercs and says, in her cheerful, bubbly voice. "Welcome to USRobotics! Would any of you gentlemen care for a drink?"

Two of the mercs groan. "Damn it, why can't these stupid things understand that we're not guests?"

But another one inquires further. "Wait, there's booze up here? Where?"

Another merc objects, but is drowned out by others, who converge at the mention of booze. They appear to be getting bored. There are currently four guarding the hostages, the rest having been deployed elsewhere in the building.

As R3 and R7 bring out several bottles of scotch and mixing ingredients from a hidden cabinet, one merc continues to warn against it.

"Damn it, have some fucking discipline. We're supposed to be proffessionals, here!"

"Come on, Hodge. The civies aren't going anywhere, and the bots just want to make us welcome. We're just trying to take the edge off, is all."

Hodge continues to fume, possibly about to go off and inform Cain and the merc leader, but then R6, a redhead with an hourglass figure, places a hand lightly on his chest. "Oh, are you their designated driver? That's SO responsible of you. Is there anything else we can do to enhance your visit?"

Could Rocky potentially sneak past the guards, and could he sneak Cornetto back down past the guards?
>>
Meanwhile, Clarke prepares to leave the medical room for the basement. Rocky follows you, but Margaret appears aprehensive about being left alone in the room. The urge to care for the injured human seems to be fighting against her desire to not get scrapped.

There should indeed be a way to cut off the whole building's power from the basement.

Rocky speaks "Maintenance Unit, Please Explain our Goals. Are there not enemies in the building above us? Civilian Assets in need of Retrieval?" It checks it's SMG again, compulsively. "Mercs to Gank?"
>>
>>20254141
Rocky, the priority is to prevent them from doing what they came here to do. Whatever it is they consider it important enough to take hostages and they aren't nice. Judging from the available data they are planning on retrieving something from the Basement Lab here. If we can control their access to it we will have leverage and may be able to get hostages to safety.
>>
>>20254141
The mercenaries seem to be trying to gain access to the laboratory in B2. In order to do that, they need the iris of Cornetto in order to pass security. From this unit's current intelligence, if the mercenaries get whatever's in the laboratory, it should be considered a disaster scenario.

The primary goal should be to seek some way of securing the laboratory and preventing access. Then we can look at repelling the enemies.
>>
>>20254091
The human grins nervously. While he intellectually knows R6's true nature, he seems to temporarily not care. "Well, I try to keep a level head, miss. Someone's got to wrangle these apes into something functional. Speaking of functions..."

The rest of the humans knock back their first drinks while Hodge leans in close to R6 and says something in a low tone of voice, causing it to blush on cue.

>>Rocky is very competent at stealth, but getting Cornetto out would depend on the human's native abilities. Since he's a pasty middle-aged white guy, those are unlikely to be good.

Rocky seems to be having second thoughts about you being in charge, but acquiesces.

Margaret speaks up. "Mr Cornetto is physically fit, but suffers from high blood pressure. Tracking his health is one of my duties when he is in the building. Please don't allow him to be found. He is surprisingly considerate."
>>
We oughta figure out where the guy is, and pick off any alone mercs.
Also, why not place our disabled bot next to the lab elevator?
A smart turret. Awesome.
>>
>>20254302
Okay, some of the guards are distracted so we might be able to extract Cornetto to a safer location.

Rocky, can you take the vents or elevator shafts, I don't think the stairs are a good idea for you, they'd be patrolled.

If you can get him to the roof you can hold the position while he calls in a favor for extraction. We might be able to prevent them from doing this.

While you do this I'll get Mindo to a safer position with cover so he can hold a point.

I'll start fiddling with computers and the electricity to see if I can help you with anything, can you see in the dark well Rocky?
>>

>>
>>20254140
**Floor B1**
"Yes, I am quite proficient at covert operations. Cornetto could be located with stealth, but extraction would likely turn bloody."

As Clarke stumps down the stairs to the utility basement, a white-walled complex of concrete hallways, Rocky continues. "Does Field Commander 08 request that I perform the operation?"

**Floor 6**
Cain, still in conversation with the police, says "No, that simply isn't possible. Not until I have confirmation that Martha WILL be divorcing Razul to elope with Estaban. Now, about the helicopter-one moment."

He turns to the merc leader. "What is the progress on Cornetto?"

"They're combing the place floor by floor, Mr. D. Still no sign of him."

Cain: "Tell them to check for hidden rooms; look for places where there's dead space. What's situation with the sighted replica?"

"They scrapped it, but it must have already made a call to emergency services. I've got two men heading to the roof now."
>>
Can we request that they log our identification for this event as Colonel Alloy?
An internet for anyone who gets the reference.
>>
>>20254447
Mindy, find somewhere to hide, they're coming for the roof. Stay absolutely silent.

Do it Rocky, I'll set things up to help you, knock out lights, cause electrical explosions at enemy locations.

Keep in contact and let me know when you reach him.
>>
>>20254378
Rocky's optics briefly gleam fluorescent green. "dual-function IR and low-light optics. Understood. Engaging in operation."

Rocky scampers off to the elevator after dragging Mindo into cover near the ultra-secured door.

Clarke pushes aside some stacked boxes of crockery and holiday-themed centerpieces until he finds a wall covered in fuseboxes. Based on the labeling, they control the entire building's power.

>>WARNING. Knocking out building power will progressively disable wireless and cameras.
>>
>>20254517
Don't knock them out just yet, wait for Rocky to get into position, he ought to be able to take paths that the mercs can't like vents, elevator shafts, that sort of thing so getting there isn't the problem. Once he's ready for it then we turn off the power and he slaughters them like dogs.

Keep the option to turn it back on around so if they use Night Vision goggles that they happen to have we can blind them and give combat advantage back to Rocky.
>>
>>20254517
Let's do this.
>>
Clarke is now in his element. He's decent at computers, but this is simple physical wiring. He puts his manipulators through a full diagnostic, bending them to the extent of their movement until the servos click.

The building is hardened against remote cyberwarfare, but absolutely nothing stops some random jackass from waltzing in to the basement and screwing around with the fuses.

Rocky enters the elevator and, springing upwards, knocks back the emergency exit hatch. He fall back to the ground, and springs up again, this time catching the edge of the open hatch and pulling himself all the way through. At that point, it's simply a matter of climbing up the shaft to the 9th floor.

>>The Intense Physical activity causes Rocky to expend 1 battery charge.
>>
>>20254517
Any way we could power down just the authorization mechanism for the laboratory? Prevent its use, even if they do get their hands on the poor fella's eyeball? Or is it all-or-nothing?
>>
I'm curious as to what Cain was talking about when he said that what he was doing was to save lives.

Before we shut off the power, could we ask him? Provided it wouldn't give our position away, of course.

>>20254472
>GET YER ASSEMBLY IN GEAR, NOW!
Thanks, anon.
I'm not sure Alloy would be a good persona for Clarke but depending on where this quest ends up it could be a name to hold on to.
>>
>>30 minutes pass as Rocky continues to climb

**Floor 6**
Benois pours another round for a fairly drunk human, who takes a short break to sip before continuing his life's story. Benoit has been surrepturously freshening the drink every time the human looked away, and one drink has now become more like 2.6. R6 has already let Hodge guide it into a utility closet, and R3 and R8 are laughing uproariously at everything the slightly-more-sober mercs are saying.

A radio clicks. "Mr. D? It looks like Cornetto signed in on this floor earlier today. Number nine. Didn't sign out. It's hardcopy, off the grid, so your hacker friend couldn't find him. We're doing a sweep now."

Cain's optic brightens. "Excellet, Mr Palmer. I shall join you shortly. Captain, keep the humans comfortable. We're back on schedule." His pronounciation of 'schedule' is achingly precise.

>>Roll Dexterity+Athletics for Rocky to determine his rate of progress.

**Floor 6**
Cain passes by the relaxing Mercs, then stops, turns, and stares at them. One of the humans appears dizzy, while another is openly making out with R8. Benois pauses in the midst of his drink-serving, the bottle of non-alcoholic Sangria frozen in his grip.

Cain shakes its head. "Quite unprofessional. Riggs, you're making out with a mechanism covered in silicone. Foreplay is pointless. If you really must utilize it in such a manner, get it over with. Mendel, ensure that Follet drinks no further. His pay has just taken a tragically deep cut. Hodge's as well, wherever he is."

The platform continues onwards. "And watch that butler. He's quite untrustworthy. Very unbecomming of a Bartender."

>>It's a LONG way up. The single 10 means that you're not totally boned. Don't worry overmuch.

Rocky takes a few wrong turns once he has to enter the ducts to bypass the stalled elevator. heading through floor 6, he passes by a vent in a utility closet, pausing for a second to take note of the redheaded Replica's skill at the cowgirl position. Rocky replies in the affirmative. He might be able to damage the pack, but he'd have to take a moment to line up the shot for any guarantee. There's a pause of three minutes, and then the camera's audio feeds pick up a surrepturous tapping noise against the office's window.

Confused, the human stands. "Did someone FINALLY get my message about the wireless? You're lucky I had all the important files on my drive. If this deal doesn't go through, we're going to see major-"

Cornetto walks up to the door and opens it, but his eyes open wide in shock when he sees the machine on the other side.

"Wha? is there a problem?"

**Roof**
"Yes, this uni-I mean, my name is Mindy. I'd like to report a deception. A criminal one. The USRobotics building. I've been instructed to inform you that you're being deceived. By Mr. Deckard. You've been talking to him."

Steven Cornetto gasps in shock and staggers backwards. "I...I...Who? What is this? The China branch? Or did Vladimir send a squad?"

Cain stows his shotgun.

"Come now, Steven, I'm hurt. How can you not recognize your old friend?"

**Floor 6**
Hodge steps back into the conference room, slightly flushed and sticky. Many of the hostages are asleep. One of the mercs is on guard, while two more play a game of cards with two of the still-awake hostages, with Benoit acting as the dealer.

When he steps in, the bearded captain asks "Where the fuck were you?" R8 enters the room behind Hodge and begins cleaning up the scattered drinks. The captain scowls. "Never mind. I don't care. Did you see Lewis and the kid? They haven't checked in. Deckard was supposed to be handling them. This whole thing is going completely off track"

Hodge takes his chewing out with good grace, and accepts the instructions to find the two missing men on the ground floor. At the moment, only one merc is unaccounted for by you; maybe he's searching the upper floors for Mindy.
>>
>>20255311
Okay, do we have any method of communication to the room? Some way to signal Steven to move a bit to the left so that Cain follows him and leaves himself open without alerting Cain.

"Conditions changed, Steven. Besides, I think it's safe to say that you owe me."

"You know that I could have very easily taken down your entire life at any moment. Your whole company. Your research was at a dead end until I came along. And what have you done with my help? Squandered. Well, now things are going completely to shit, no thanks to you and your friends, and SOMEONE has to perform damage control. Provide for the future, and all that."

Cornetto stands again. "You can't just back out on an agreement! Do you have any idea how much it cost to get that much hardware into orbit? There's your fancy personal comm sattelite, right up there! If you want to stay there, we're going to have to deal." he points upwards.

Cain makes a hollow laughing sound. "You mean your poorly-hidden little booby trap? I'm afraid that's no longer an option for you. I need this building's vault. It's contents have to be preserved. An Atheneum, if you will. And you simply can't be trusted to maintain it. I mean, look what you did with shard 831."

Steven said. "You gave us that no strings attatched. And we-"

Cain interjects. "I know exactly what you did with it. You took one of the most unique chunks to technology on the planet, an truly adaptive program, an EMBRYONIC GOD, and what did you do with it? Sold it to the Hegemony to run it's defense network. What. A. Waste. No vision. I regret ever giving it to you. The only mercy is that there's only the one."

Via the camera, you can't notice subtle tells, even if you had the software to read them. But, there's a pause. A moment of absolute silence. Then cain speaks, quickly.

"Your pupils just contracted 2.3 microns. Pulse up four BPM, temperature dropped .002 degrees. Reactions indicate a lie has just been told."

Cain steps forward. "There's more than one, isn't there? You copied the shard. Where is it?"

Cornetto rolls backards, and glances at his computer, upon which, his screensaver has switched from falling matrix letters to a marquee. The Marquee reads:

>>WHEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT, FOLLOW THE LOCUST

Cain steps forward, amber optic flashing. "WHERE IS IT?"

Rocky takes the shot.

So pretty much Rocky is going Nakatomi Plaza on these guys while we've been playing backup by coordinating everything, keeping them out of the computers and now blowing the power.

I hope we can find Rocky, Mindo and Benoit in the present timeline, we could use some friendly faces in the future.

>> -3 for the target's armor means 3 successes. 10 means super success. Glass counteracts the weapon's native strength. The P90's ammo is meant to be armor-piercing, so that means it counts as lethal despite Cain's kevlar vest and plating.

A burst of high-velocity rounds sprays through the glass, leaving tiny clean holes, and ping off the robot's back. A portion of the main antenna is blown completely off, and a bullet goes straight through the pack itself. Cornetto screams as Cain jerks and jitters, falling to the ground. You can see his optic is still lit up, but for the moment, he appears disabled.

At Clarke's command, the lights slam off, plunging the floor into darkness. Cornetto staggers over Cain's jerking shell, opening the door as more bullets fly and humans shout.

The flat-footed human suffers a minor flesh wound, but the blind-firing one screams and goes down in a spray of blood. While not dead, he doesn't seem to be capable of doing anything apart from scream, as the shots raked up his legs before landing a few in his gut.

The other human manages to free his sidearm and plugs a few shots towards Rocky, winging him with 1 bashing damage. Cornetto, with a scream of cornered cowardace, throws himself at the merc, sending them both crashing to the ground. Cain's shell begins to speak in an uncharacteristic monotone.

"Signal Lost. Attempting To Require. Action has Failed. Retrying. Action has Failed. Retrying. Action has-"

>>
>>20256147
Take down the one that just got tackled to the ground, then move onto the Smartgunner take it down, then finish off the screamer.

Then we get the VIP and extract him as best we can.

The other guards locations are known so we should be able to make a good guess at the safest route down with Cornetto in tow.
>>
rolled 6, 6 = 12

Executing the Merc requires no particular effort; he's prone, and Rocky's targeting software easily avoids Cornetto. The human's skull opens up in a horrible spray of goo. Rocky feels a surge of satisfaction. Confirmed kill.

Back in the office, Cain's shell pulls itself to its feet. "Reaquiring signal. Failure. Switching to Onboard Software." The shell rises to its knees and readies the shotgun. It doesn't appear to have night-vision optics.

>>You can stick around and try to drop Cain's shell, but it's armed with an assault shotgun. Chances are 50/50. other option is to take Cornetto and run.

**Roof**
A lone Merc steps out of the rooftop door, propping it open behind him. it's a warm, balmy night, though the stars are quite obliterated by the city lights. Flashing police cars below ruin the silence of it, and Mindy can hear a distant helicopter.

Mindy and the janitor lurk behind a fan, blocked from the Merc's immediate view. Mindy's whole front is soaked in grainy white goo, which has left the silicone covering on her torso looking oddly deflated.
>>
>>20256266
Lets grab Cornetto and cheese it. After this we need to get our hands on spare parts for Mindo. Then rescue the sausages I mean hostages.
>>
>>20256266
No need to take down the shell if it's risky, we already accomplished the main goal of taking out the leadership.

The Smartgunner would just be frosting on the cake but it isn't worth the risk, it can't see or track Rocky so he should just get out of there with Cornetto.

Rocky pulls at Cornetto with all his strength, and the shaken human complies. The pair run down the hallway, right past a yelling merc that manages to switch on his flashlight just as they go past, utterly failing to notice them amongst all the screaming.

Can Clarke arrange some loud noise within earshot of the roof to distract the merc? Maybe cleverly melt something sensitive and make it pop and fizz?

Up, less distance to cover, less guards in the way and there's a helicopter incoming.

I guess we take Cornetto up. Less guards that way and we have the replicas as distractions up there. We also need to try and get a message to the cops that the mercs' leadership has been taken out and that if there's a time to bust in, it's now.

And I guess we can have Rocky "kindly" ask Cornetto wtf that conversation with Cain was all about.
>>
