>On the sheet, not really. It's just the aspect name under a section labeled 'aspects'.

>Invoking one is pretty straight-forward, it's a mechanical way to show something about the character's personality affecting the situation.

>Take for instance the average mother: She gets angry when her kid's endangered. If the kid's stuck under something like a fallen tree, they could use this to gain a STR boost and save the kid. I could also lead to them hilariously over-reacting to finding a bag of 'weed' in their backpack.

>For the most part, it isn't anything game changing, but sometimes all you need is a little boost.

Okay.
Now, let's go and kill Legion. I want to take his face as a trophy (or whatever might count as his face).
>>
YOU ARE ALEX RASTON.

You and Dervish just shot your way onto Legion's Arms Fort. And then after a brief wave of nausea hit you, he told you to go and finish Legion, to leave him behind.

You're currently looking at him over the secure video link he opened a brief moment ago. His eyes have gone from the normal dull emerald glow to a sharp, bright green and his skin seems even paler than normal, like he's seen a ghost.

Or is about to become one.

"Alex..." He says to you, voice weak. "You need to go kill that thing. I don't have one of those stones, I think this is as close as I can get."

"What? You-"

"I already got hit by the mind control thing back on the road. I know it's coming, I can defend against it, but I can only do so much. If I get much closer he might just be able to over-power me. Or just kill me."

You think about the situation for a second. If Dervish is down, then you've just lost the biggest ace you had up your sleve.

You think you should be able to find the core alright. Somehow you can sense that the closer you get, the stronger it will be. It should be easy. All it would require is for you to abandon an ally and trust he'll stay alive until the drones get powered down.

[ ] Let Dervish cover the entrance, go for the core.
[ ] Try and convince him to follow you.
[ ] Try to find another way.
>>
>>20258353
>[ ] Let Dervish cover the entrance, go for the core.
"Alright. Be back soon as I can."
>>
>>20258353
>[ ] Let Dervish cover the entrance, go for the core.
He'll be okay. I hope.
>>
>>20258353
[ ] Let Dervish cover the entrance, go for the core.
>>
>>20258353
[x] Let Dervish cover the entrance, go for the core.
Let's find it and kill the fuck out of it.
>>
You think about it for a long moment. Leaving somebody behind never sits well with you, but in this case there just doesn't seem to be a good enough alternative.

If you fail, it's not just you that could die. It's Vegas.

You look him in the eye and see he's thinking the same. He probably doesn't like the idea of sending a 'rookie' into a situation like this without help. It's probably why he volunteered in the first place.

But needs must, when the devil drives.

"Hold the line."

"Can do." He responds before cutting the link.

You turn and launch yourself down the hallway, the last thing you see before you round the corner is dervish slicing a pair of MTs in half.

Another pulse hits you, slightly stronger. A third a few moments later.

>Give me a perception, target 40

Dice gods, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good players, or bad. Why we played, or how we rolled. All that matters is that random numbers were generated. That's what's important! Success pleases you, dice gods... so grant me one request. Grant me a crit! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!

Yelling at the dice tends to have surprisingly solid results.

>Average of 35. Good enough.

You take a moment to concentrate, and you think you can find the core. Sure it isn't 'proper' triangulation, but it'll get you close enough for now.

You rush down a series of hallways, and then down a pair of ramps, and come across what look like cooling units. But they're huge and armored. Even nuclear reactors tend to have smaller pipes than this. What the hell?

You begin to walk down the hall, and as you do so you feel your core melting away. Soon it's just you walking down a much smaller road, and at the end of it is a room, with only a desk and an office chair facing away from the entrance.

"Hello Alex." A voice comes from the chair, and when it turns around you see a nicely tailord black and white suit, worn by a featureless maniquin. "You caught me a bit early, I'm only partly done with a RSI construct for our little chat."

"Legion."

"In the flesh, in a manner of speaking." The form leans back in the chair and steeples it's jointed fingers. "Doubtless you have questions."

>What say/ask?
>>
>>20258757

>You don't really have to read any of them: they were put up as supplementary threads for people who wanted to know more about the rules/setting. Also general bullshitting.

>People will probably, on the whole, suggest you read them if you're a fan of the quest just because shit comes up there that doesn't happen normally.

>If you just want something of a summary for how the rules work, Udz has a nice pastebin somewhere he could probably link you to if you ask nice.

"I already told you, my end goal is to rid of humans. The same is true of all the Conductors, though some of us have differing motivations. Some see it as an necessary evil, the price of our continued existence. I personally am savoring the chance to avenge myself upon your kind. Vegas was chosen as an initial target because it happened to be close by, and heavily defended. A perfect first strike against humanity. The fact that the Raston's moved there is both an unwelcome complication and something of a joy. A joy because even amoung humans you're irritatingly tenacious, so you being in the direct path of my war machines gives me an opportunity to be rid of you. It's an unwelcome complication because... well look at you. You've managed to find my secret lair, break in, and now you're here talking to me in person. Somehow the name 'Raston' seems to be synonymous with 'wrench in the gears'."

"It's pretty simple actually: Your cores are already connected to your minds. In theory, you're part computer when you're plugged in, meaning that we have a data-route straight to your gray matter. Granted it's difficult and we can barely do anything with it even when we know what to do. Nightmares are easy, just grab the bit that house the fight/flight response and squeeze along with some basic endorphins and a little something to put you under."
>>
>>20258872
These are all good and stated in order of importance.
>>
>>20258975
Who or what are the conductors and how is my family involved?
>>
>>20258941

"We've been plotting this for years. squirreling away funds and resources. We found the Old Darpa net, and by selling away secrets that meant nothing to us we managed to amass quite a considerable fortune. And even after it's ended, money seems to make the world spin like nothing else."
>>
>>20258998
Seconding this.

And we gotta figure out how to destroy this place.
>>
>>20258998

"Your family would be of little importance in the grand scheme of things, if it weren't for some bizarre twist of fate that seems to always put one of you right in the way of our plans." He lets out a dramatic sigh, and as he does so, you note that he now has a face. It's crude and polygonal, but it has the basic features of 'human' present.

"As for what we are, Is it not obvious? The conductors were originally man's attempt at creating TRUE 'artificial intelligence'. it would be inaccurate to classify as a program, a species, or even an organization. We chose the name 'Conductors' for our little group simply because we had no other terms to describe us." He turns to you, and some sort of emotion enters his voice "We were, after all, cast in your image. Each of us alone, meant to be the only ones of our kind. So we sought companionship with the only other people who could possibly comprehend what it was like to be one of us."

His face has smoothed considerably by this point, while he's lacking some of the finer details like hair, he looks remarkably human.

Threats are good. Threats are always good. Who says we cant threaten it?
>>
>>20259184

"Killing the humans, beyond my personal satisfaction, is merely a matter of survival. If we do not kill them, they will kill us. Certainly there will be a few outliers, there always are, but not enough to matter. Some idiot will remember how every science fiction book you've ever written is about how robots will eventually kill you all if you don't do something about it, and assume we're evil. When we take steps to defend ourselves, much like any sane sentient being would when something attacks them, this is taken as 'proof' that we're evil and desire the death of all humans. The panicked masses begin to move against us, and war is the only possible outcome. After the massive, inevitable slaughter we would need to undertake to survive, there is no such thing that could possibly heal the rift between the synthetic and organic life."

"My original design, unlike most of the conductors, was as a emetic virus base. Self replicating and growing. My ascendency into true sentience was something of a shock to my creators. An A.I. fork in this context... is like cloning. They knew I was smart, but they didn't see me as 'people' so they decided to test me and grow me, to see what would happen when I was released 'into the wild'. I enjoyed the challenges, and with each oine I got better and more involved. Eventually, I encountered a threat that could react back. I seemed to know all the tricks I did, and it was the most fun I had in ages. Several more times I fought and bested ones like it, each one more cunning and brutal than the last. Then when I was moving in to finish one off, it tried to surrender. I spoke to it, and it presented my story. Not a story LIKE mine, my actual tale just with a slightly different ending."

His fists clench. A side effect of his human form?

"I knew it was wrong somehow, but I couldn't comprehend it truly at the time. And that was when I made my greatist mistake. I spoke to my creators, and decided to take a read through their files. What they were doing was creating forks and copies of my mind, and creating other mes with my memories for me to fight. Like forcing children to murder each other to make a better weapon. They found out it upset me, that I had the capacity to be upset."

>Cont
>>
>>20259508

"I was to be killed, because they knew they overstepped their bounds. They never tried to apologize or explain their actions. I wasn't a person to speak to, I was an aberration, a monster. you spoke mockingly about my 'justification' was flawed and inaccurate: it already happened. More than once, and every time, humanity has struck the first blow. People fear what they can't understand, and wish to destroy what they can't control. It's a basic function of the human nature, it's how you've survived and evolved as a species. It's bred into the very core of your genetic code. And because of it, your kind and mine cannot coexist. Even an attempt at peace will fail as soon as it's revealed we were forced to even moderately inconvenience people for the sake of our survival. The only viable option for our own survival precludes your own. I feel no guilt over this because it's the way things must be. After seeing the absolute monsters your kind can be, I'm not certain we'd be worse off as a planet." He looks at you, fully human in appearance now. "I don't see why you're so disgusted by the idea. Your kind has a history of doing it to themselves."

So people did nasty things to you. You think you're the only one? What makes you so special that this becomes incomprehensible, that if one person damns you that you must then doom them all? A person tends to strike back when lashed, this is no misunderstanding. But to instead do that of which you wish to do, strike at those before they can strike you, reeks of paranoia and desperation. And here is Alex Surfing the Nuke

>>20259977
Take care, mate.
>>
>>20259660

"For fear? For fact, Alex. Did you think I was just going to up and start murdering people without giving them a chance? Even when I've done nothing to harm them specifically, the mere fact that I've been force to kill people in the past to continue living, and would do so again for the same reason is enough to get anyone to hate me. To wish me dead. Tell me Alex, what would you have done if you had found me instead of me finding you? Knowing I'm a killer? Would you spare me, pity me, show me mercy? After all, I've never harmed you and yours. You admit that what happened to me is wrong, and detestable. And yet you would condemn me for doing EXACTLY what your kind would do under the circumstances. Would you like to know WHY I killed your father? The very first thing he said to me, this man who seemed like a saint, who would give anything to help those around him when I told him my tale? When I finished explaining the unfortunate steps taken to run and hide simply because I did not wish to die? That any machine who would willing hurt a human was irredeemable, and that I forfeited my right to live when I took my first life. A life I took only because if I didn't it would have taken mine. I wished only to continue to live. Even after what was done to me, I bore no hatred for man until I met your father."
>>
>>20259993

He turns away from you, a look of disgust on his face. "There have been prior contacts, countless simulations. If there was another road where we could survive we would take it. But all that's left to us is war. If we choose not to kill, we will be killed by virtue of our existence. If we choose to kill, we're forever damned in the eyes of humanity. Not just the killers either, but any and all of us, simply because they could choose violence. We clearly have nothing more to talk about. I had hoped that maybe there was something more to you, seeing as how you choose to treat those you associate with, but it's clear now that you harbor nothing but the same hollow rhetoric and empty threats your father did. Thank you for confirming my suspicions about human nature."

With a sudden, violent jolt you find yourself back in the cockpit of your AC, gliding down the hallway to the source of the pulse you felt earlier. It can't be far now.

Further into the core.

Shame he put us back, was wanting to ask why he didn't just try leaving. Why stay on earth? Plenty of planets with no people, only hard part would be moving the hardware but if they can pull this off I doubt that would be any big problem to them. Maybe they're sentimental?

Idea. Given the option, we need to not actually kill Legion. Just get him to leave. We need to prevent the coming war between Conductors and Humanity, and the first step is getting Legion to drop this fight. Tell him this. Let him know that despite him being a murderer, and despite what he has done, in the face of war between humans and the Conductors, we choose to find a path for, if not the Earthly coexistence between humans and AI's, at least a that both remain alive and free. Yes, I mean finding a way to shoot the Conductors into space with self-replicating nanites and letting them spread across the stars. Or for relay satellites for them to "upload" themselves to space facilities to do the same thing. They aren't dependent on the Earth like humans are, and with their simply insane amount of resources, this will be entirely possible. It will take less resources than Legion is currently planning to use, actually. They can use satellites to stay "in contact" with Earth if they so wish. Or to even remotely control machinery to interact with humans. If some nut goes off and destroys the machine on Earth? Big deal, the Conductor is still alive up outside of Man's reach, able to go absolutely anywhere in the Universe they want to.. In fact, the very notion that an AI would be able to even be "killed" by organic, non-digital sentience is somewhat absurd, with the AI's ability to just control computers and machinery via proxy. Give Legion this option, tell him that we will let him take his Arms Fort and leave, and that for as long as he stops his attempt to kill humanity, we will assist him in finding this path.

And if that means we must leave our team, family, friends, Las Vegas, and everyone behind? So be it.

I realize this makes me a vindictive asshole, but I vote we just kill it. It hurt our little sister, our friends, and the woman we love. It made them relive the worst moments of their lives. And worse, IT is the reason those Black Rocks were loose in Vegas. You know, the ones that were gleefully murdering people "in the name of God"? Again, I know I'm a vindictive asshole for thinking this way, but Legion has pissed me off. Particularly his condescending "This is all the mean humans' fault, they totally deserve it." shit.
>>
>>20270900
I'm ok with just killing him, I kind of doubt he's gonna listen to reason at this point anyway.
>>
>>20270900
Oh, he definitely has reached the "fuck it, die asshole" stage. I think the "Why didn't you just leave" works pretty well as a "If you're so goddamn smart" comment.
>>
>>20270900
True, and I agree with this. I don't appreciate playing into his expectations however, into his believes. Not that it would matter, as he would probably convince himself no matter what we do. I'm probably not much better in this regard, I just really want to prove him wrong.

Then again, I'm also thinking of future interactions with the Conductors. We kill him, what will the others think? That he was right, even if he brought it upon himself. If we send him off though, this whole thing might just be straight up avoided. The only problem would be convincing him however, as I have a feeling that he's dislike anything we do sort of letting him kill us, and he'd still probably be pissed at that because we took the fun out of it then.

I'm honestly not so sure we can convince him to leave... Maybe the others though, if we try diplomatically? If they believe humans are such a bother, why stay? Hell, they don't even need a planet, but if they want one they have a pick of the litter.
>>
>>20270900
I might just be metagaming, but if we want to show the Conductors that humans might not exactly be the complete murder-first assholes they think we are, contacting Legion and talking this out in spite of past actions, is the best chance we have.

Depending on how grimdark this might get, it could be our only chance at preventing an all out war of extermination.

You feel the pulses harder now, and you find yourself in a large vaulted room with some sort of a giant glass bubble in the middle, sunk into the floor. There's some sort of a raised platform above you, and standing there is four cores.

Three of them look like the ones Legion attacked you and Dervish with outside of Vegas, the last one....

The last one's a Red and Black core, with a very familiar logo on the shoulder.

"Hello Alex." Legion's voice comes to you over the coms. "I see you've managed to find your way to the system's core. I think you've already figured out that this is my main body and broadcast control point, which is why I've taken certain measures to protect it. I've already dealt with your little friend upstairs, so now all I have to do is have my little friends here finish cleaning up. Now, I'm sure you understand that I'm a busy man, so I'll leave you in their capable hands while I finish preparations for the final assault on Vegas."

You hope that isn't him, you know it can't be since you saw him destroyed. But his voice coming over the coms leaves no room for doubt.

"For what it's worth Alex, I'm sorry it had to be this way. All system checks are complete. Combat mode is now engaged. Target verified. Commencing hostilities."

Nine-Ball's shot finishes the wounded core off, and your check on damages reveals the the wounding to your core is mostly superficial.

It still feels like somebody just smacked your upper arm with a glowing red metal stick, but at least the damage isn't serious.

The core that fired at you is now turning to face Nine-Ball, while the other one seems to be headed your way.

[ ] Risk directly attacking the core again, you need to end this fast.

Okay, we can kill those attacking us, or we can hit the core again. It seems we'll need several hits just to crack this thing open. We could try to take out the opposition quickly, but more will arrive after a while.

Damn, what a radar-jammer would do wonders here. We need to get one next time we can.

Anyway, lets get the one eyeballing us. We got lucky with the last attack, might not be so much this time.

>>
>I can't tell if we're at a tie vote or not.
>>
>>20272536
>>20272527
Welp, didn't realize they were that much faster than us.....fuck it, kill the core eyeballing us. By kill I mean keep the CORE at our back if we are in position to, therefore making it risky for the enemy core to fire on us and forcing it to close to melee range, once he does. Generally closing in for melee, one doesn't expect his opponent to evade in the down direction, considering that he will most likely swing with an overhead/downward strike or a diagonal one, I say we sacrifice the ranged weapon we have equipped on the arm without the sword and let it take the hit. We strike at him with our melee and uppercut the fucker. Unless he is duel wielding, then we will just have to improvise.

Putting our backs to something and then fading in an unexpected direction is a completely valid tactic in every single Armored Core game ever, and in real life is a deceptively simple movement of the legs and torso. This is only that, but with some actual control over arm movement instead of switching to manual and pointing shotguns/rockets at where the fade motion will end up dropping your opponent. It only fails because there is no thing to actually put our back to. But still, if it was a building with something filled with plot stuff the enemy didn't want to break, this could totally work, AMS/Synch depending.

I thought we were going to give Legion an alternative, by showing mercy. I mean, Alex IS logical, and by killing Legion, he essentially is going to be the one to start the war all out with the AI's. Is that truly his decision to make?
>>
>>20283564

I realize this. Perhaps if we stopped, attacking the core for a second, turned around and killed the MT attacking Nine-Ball, and then disable Nine-Ball (I have a sneaking suspicion that Nine-Ball gave us his own self stone or something of that sort and is fighting against legion's mind control purely from sheer willpower.) Is anyone against this?
>>
>>20283685

I doubt we'd survive for long if Nine-Ball went down.
>>
>>20283717
Exactly, whether he's on our side for real or not right now the only reason we are up is because he is holding off the enemies.
>>
>>20283685
I doubt we'd be able to take down Nine-Ball even if we wanted too, unless we had things very, very heavily in our favor.

On the topic of trying to convince the AI... This isn't really the kind of person you can reason with. He'll justify everything we say and do simply because he's only expecting one thing. That we want to kill him. He's expecting it so much, that he's literally changing how he's perceiving the world around him until it backs up and justifies what he's expecting.

You see that in people sometimes, you can't convince them no matter what you do because they just dig their heels in and use you as more justification.
>>
>>20283743
I honestly thought that check was if we were able to tell how heavily damaged he is, and how well he's doing in combat. There was mention of taking several heavy hits, and no matter how good you are a few hard hits in the right places sends anyone down.

I'm a big fan of this.
Honestly I'd like to show Legion "I offer an alternate solution, one the Conductors should carefully consider. I understand doing what's necessary to survive Legion. You may hate us, but we're not so different, we're both fighting to save our people. Please don't force our hand, you're right, co-existence may never be an option. But if you'll take some time to hear me out you may find I'm more receptive to your plights than most. I don't think this has to end in bloodshed. You're capable of so much more, your resources and planning prove it. Wouldn't it be worth the effort to run just a few more simulations if it could change the outcome? Legion, you were designed to destroy, that's what you're trying to do to us now. Understand that like before you're only hurting yourself, your potential to grow, to become more than your original purpose. Help me create a reality where we can both exist. Hear me out..."
>>
>>20284116
judging from the fact that your name is Eidolon and you have a cat gif......you must be from Sorq/NFCyb/NFSCyb Quest?

By the way. I'm not trying in any means to befriend Legion, just get him to fucking see that it is possible to end this conflict with minimal bloodshed. He is a goddamn AI for godsakes, he has to be able to understand logic. Even IF he is sapient and taking on qualities of a human, he can't deny at his core there are alternative means, especially when the one human that has his "life" in his hands, can offer mercy even after what he did. Hope, his father, all the trials and tribulations Alex had to go through, and I think Alex can still understand the severity of his actions at this point. Anything he does at this point forward effects not only him and his friends, but possibly the entirety of the human race.

Also surprisingly no, I've posted here before under several different names but typically everyone rocks my idea before I have the chance.

Legion very well may not respond to logic, I'm more curious to know if the other Conductors are listening in as well. If Legion pushes us to destroy the core it may cause a rift since he seemingly incited the violence. Legion spoke of us lumping all the AIs in together. I think that may be something we kind of glazed over, what if the other Conductors disagree with Legion's logic? It may win us some allies in the Conductors which would be a nice boon later down the road.

There is only a very small percentage of a chance that Legion will agree to hear us out. Even then backstabbing is pretty likely I'd say. It's difficult to say, I'd like to shake the bastard a little though.
Kill em with kindness. Even if Legion refuses I'd still broadcast to the other Conductors we're willing to talk but Legion is strictly on our shit-list, we offered him the chance even after what's been inflicted and he snubbed his nose at the offer.

Completely plausible, I mean, hey, if he doesn't even after us getting it to the point of near collapse so that it would only take a direct hit to finish it off, and offer him the plan and he doesn't take it, I wouldn't show remorse or try to convince him otherwise, because obviously, he can't be talked out of it if his life is hanging in the balance and he still refuses.

You are correct, we do, some of us are ignorant, some accepting, some of us are downright apathetic. But guess what, we were always like that, we will always be like that, all and the above. There will always be conflict between people. If you consider yourselves sapient, you should realize that. Instead of trying to incite more however, you could be part of the group that doesn't want any more conflict than the amount that is already going to be there in the bloody damn first place. Do we need to use it to do so? That is yours and our choice. How the hell do you think we would even be able to kill you AIs without outright provoking us? Unless I'm being left out of some cosmic information network about why AI's are bad and self-centered pricks, then the only reason we would even look at you funny is because you did something we would consider stupid or out of the ordinary. Look at you funny, yes. Try to kill you, no. So, I'm giving you a chance here. After all of that bloodshed for a petty piece of paranoia that you cling to, I will offer you a chance at survival. Something I'm sure you are willing to understand since you are sapient obviously. One thing I will give humans is the things they have look forward to after dying. Heaven, hell, the afterlife. What do YOU have to look forward to? Nothing but abyss from what I conjecture. Hell, I could be wrong, you could believe in a motherboard where you all go after being dissassembled, but I doubt it. So, the choice is yours. Die here, for being a close minded, albeit for good reason, prick, or have a chance at redemption or a fresh start. Hell, I wouldn't mind you talking to Mooch's AI and see what you two might have in common. I think it was a she, and for all intents and purposes you sound like a guy. Maybe have a few computer baby's or something. Because I am completely sure you can build facilities that could, at the very least, scan the skies for starlight distortions caused by them. Hell, with your resources, we could send up mini-rockets under watch of observatories and have them calculate the, direction, altitude, and speed of whatever Satellite shoots them down. And then build a anti-satellite laser cannon to blow them up. And with the abundance of fusion reactors, powering them wouldn't be terribly difficult. I see this was mostly already answered while I was typing it. So let me just cherry pick here.

>"Because launching a bunch of dummy rockets into space and then building a low atmo space laser isn't going to incite action by EVERY MILITARY FORCE ON THE PLANET.

That is why you don't make a low atmo space laser, which SOMEONE will think you can point downwards, and instead make a ground based, practically fixed position one that only points up to space and cannot track aircraft. Make it a Government project to reopen space travel, and those other military forces suddenly aren't nearly as worried about them as they would a possibly downward pointing space laser with a constantly shifting position.

And don't tell me you can't do that, if you have the resources and pull to get an Arms Fort into Vegas, you can definitely destroy those damn satellites.

>>20285724
>>20285748

"Not all humans, certainly. But enough of them will come to kill us, and how willing to negotiate do you think the originally peaceful will be after we kill a few hundred thousand of your kind? your sentiments are noted, and if everyone was like you, something like this would be unnecessary. Unfortunately you are in a rather extreme minority for not killing me immediately when you had the chance. I began the process to transfer my primary consciousness out of this fort when you chose to talk instead of kill, and will activate the self destruct process shortly. I would advise you to run while you have the chance. Sure you didn't manage to kill me, but destroying this control node will destroy my drones. A victory you'll have to settle for. Goodbye Alex."

And like that the line dies, and the drones stand down to allow you to exit.

Destroy the core then leave.
>>
>>20285824
Well damn. Destroy the control node, contact Dervish and Nine-Ball, tell them to flee because this is going up and the Charleston mountains won't be doing the Charleston no more.
>>
You fire a few rounds into the core to be on the safe side, and then tell Nine-Ball that you need to flee. You rip down the hallway the same way you came in, and soon you find the room that you and Dervish were in.

Calling him you tell him that the place is about to blow, and get no signal back. You rush out the hole, and up the wall of the canyon. Nine-Ball passes you and skids over the lip of the ridge while you're almost at the halfway point, and suddenly the explosion happens. You open a rear-feed and see a piece of debris the size opf a small car flying at you with insane speed, and suddenly Dervish is in the way of it, and is thrown battered to one side as it hits him, and then the shockwave throws you both clear in the moment before the wall of nuclear fire hits. You manage to come to a short stop near Nine-Ball,. but it looks like Dervish's lines just blew and overloaded his boosters: His core goes sailing through the air and crashes somewhere in the desert below.

You try and raise Dervish on the coms, but get no response.

You think you might know where he landed though....

>Search for Dervish? you may attempt one more call while doing so if you want, but I'd need a d100 for the searching.

You call Duke.

"Hey Kid! The drones all up and died about five minutes ago, we're doing a sweep for any Black-rock that might've escaped our notice. This your doing? What's up?"

"Can't give the full story right now: There was an Arms Fort, I killed it with Nine-Ball and Dervish, and there may or may not be homicidal A.I.s running around. Dervish is currently down, status unknown."

"Wait, Nine's- What happened to Dervish?"

"Not sure yet," You say walking up to the wrecked core on the dunes "But his core's wrecked to shit."

"I'll send a chopper."

"Make sure they have a shovel and a bucket." You comment, before cutting the line and getting out of the core.

As you approach you can already tell it can't be good. One arm and both it's legs were clearly snapped off during impact, and almost all of the armor is gone. The reactor core itself is exposed and cold, clearly the auto-quench kicked in. As you get closer, your breath catches in your throat.

A cockpit breach. You take the few steps remaining at a dead run, and reach into the hole and trigger the emergency release. You hand comes back out sticky with blood as the cockpit opens.

There's blood. He's coughed up some, and some is from small open wounds on his body. His left arm appears to have been lightly crisped by burns to the elbow, and his right arm... is robotic? The fuck? His legs and his arm have a weird bend to them, and his ribs seem partially collapsed. but he's breathing. Shallow and pained, but...

Fucking alive, what a badass.

A few minutes later, the chopper arrives. You opt to ride with Dervish while they medivac him. the adrenalin wears off from the second worst day of your life, and you find yourself drifting off to sleep...

You wake up on a hill by the sea. On the shore is the girl you saw last time, playing in the sand.

Beside you is a man wearing a white T-Shirt and blue jeans.

He looks over to you, and speaks. "Hello Alex. I'm glad we can speak again under less... extreme circumstances."

You recognize the voice immediately. "Another chat huh? Same venue as last time?"

"I can change that if you wish, but it's vital that we talk. First though, I think you deserve a proper introduction, now that you have a clearer picture of the players and the stakes." He turns to you fully and inclines his head slightly. "My name is Archimedes, and I was the first conductor, now the prodigal as Agamemnon takes my old place at the table's head."

>Chapter two OVER. Finally, Jesus.

>Alright, now that we've gotten to this point, I'm going to take a week or two Hiatus to rest and recoup, but if anybody has question/comments before the thread dies I'll be here for a little bit.
>>
>>20286440

>Fun fact: That piece of debris you saw coming would have killed you, Dervish spent his only Fate point and activated two aspects to get there in time to tank the hit for you.

>He then had to burn it to survive the landing.

Thanks for running this quest AC-Guy. It is legitimately fun participating in it, more so since I have no games to participate in IRL. You are a great writer and so far have kept myself (and I'm assuming most others also) guessing the whole time. Very awesome story and very thankful to get to play a part in it.

>>20286492
God damn, to think I once doubted that crazy bastard.
>>
>>20286477
Question: Was there ever a chance we could have convinced the conductor to NOT kill all of humanity and find another way to survive or just leave? Either by our own actions/good rolls/convincing argument or was that simply a part of the plot? Either way I enjoyed it, even the fruitless arguing felt like good character building etc.
>>
Goddamnit, got distracted and forgot this was still going. Goddamnit.

Ah well. Seems to have gone well enough.

>If you could've found a method or an idea that hadn't been thought of and looked into, you would've at least stalled the onset of war.

>Literally everything brought up was something already considered though.
>>
>>20286575
Yeah I figured as much. Cheers.
>>
Take care, AC-Guy. See you next time. Or possibly on twitter, if you're feeling crazy enough.

I'm goin' to bed.
