The year is 2025
Your name is Dave, and you never asked for this.
The Emperors have already tried to destroy the earth, for reasons you're not entirely clear. You stopped their relativistic kill weapons with the clever application of negmass matter, and released to the world, information about contact with alium races, even allowing them to interview your alium companions, Rust and Phi. Finally, you gathered up all of your friends and companions, with the notable exclusion of Jun, onto the Sleipnir for a nice dinner.
Halfway through the dinner, Dani took out an extra chair, and the Emperor from neptune appeared, a strange translator device implanted into his sternum.

---

The ten foot tall alium stood, cables hanging from his back, his pale lime skin shining unnaturally against the lighting in the room.
"Hey." Dani said, with a grin.
"Greetings-hello-salutations." The Emperor's speaker responded, as he said 'blarghle ghlarble blarghle' from his tusked, thorny mouth.

Phi's antennae started twitching madly, and Karin took a few steps away from the table.
>>
>>20264024
Sigh loudly.
"Do we have enough food for one more, Amy?"
>>
>>20264024
Tongues need to be put in butts
>>
>>20264024
Well, he did kinda help save earth.
>>
>>20264024
"A little more warning would have been nice."
>>
"A little more warning would have been nice."
"Dominating-controlling-puppeting the toy-friend-construct-daughter-pet-daughter-pet-daughter-pet would have been impolite." The emperor said.

You sigh.
"Do we have enough food for one more, Amy?"
"Of course." She said. "I made a lot extra."
Gingerly, the Emperor slowly hunched down in the chair, his gangly, scrawny limbs seeming to have no comfortable way to sit in such a small chair.

In response, Phi's helmet snapped off, and the small, dog-sized beetle leapt in front of the Emperor, on the table, his monomolecular mandibles clicking madly. As his helmet's off, the translator isn't working- but you don't need a translator to tell that Phi is screeching madly.
>>
>>20264150
Try and restrain him.
"Phi relax. He isn't exactly like the others. He helped save Earth."
>>
>>20264150
"Is this another game, Emps? See who you can piss off in as little a time as possible?"
>>
>>20264150
Make a new chair for the Emperor from nano goop.
>>
>>20264150
Get Cyan to translate, be ready to intercede if Phi decides to get physical.
>>
>>20264150
We should try to explain that he isn't with the guys who destroyed Phi's planet any more.
>>
rolled 19 + 14 = 33

>>20264208
Somehow, I don't think that'll fly.

"Phi, he's a neutral party right now. Possibly somewhat friendly. Let's not change that, yes?"
>>
<Cyan, can you translate?>

<I know what you are! I know what you speak! I know who's species you belong to! Your people killed mine!> Phi's ranting. . and the emperor raised a hand.
"Phi, relax. He isn't exactly like the others. He helped save Earth."

<I had no part in that event.> The emperor said, in Phi's language. He said so calmly, in a voice that cyan made smooth, and low. <In fact, I argued against it. I apologize for not doing so adequately and saving your people.>

Phi stopped talking. . and then just <hmph>'d and slipped his helmet back on, slurping at the sugar water and fungi Amy had set out for him.
>>
>>20264256
"So... Why ear- Terra? And why all the warhammer references with ArmaTek?"
>>
>>20264256
"... who's ready for pasta!"
>>
"So... Why ear- Terra? And why all the warhammer references with ArmaTek?" You ask him, as everyone sits down and continues eating.

"For project Culexus-Null-Pariah-Freedom. Humans-pawns-tools-pawns have natural resistance to Dominance-Control-****." He said, his speaker going static for the last bit. "Had to find out who had the most Null-pariah-freedom-freedom-freedom. Made everyone forget, and whoever didn't, had the most freedom-pariah-null-freedom-null"

<Is it just me, or is this guy impossible to understand?> Amy asked.
>>
>>20264336
<Emperor tech is pretty bad outside of their specialties I guess. And I think it's translating those burning glyph things.>
>>
>>20264336
Not impossible. Just very, very difficult.
>>
>>20264336
<Not exactly impossible, but I find it helps to rewind what he says and listen to it again. Maybe convert it to text.>
>>
>>20264371
Because I didn't think of it soon enough...

"Out of morbid curiosity, forget what?"
>>
<Not exactly impossible, but I find it helps to rewind what he says and listen to it again. Maybe convert it to text.>
<. . You're right.> Amy said. <Converting it to text *does* work.>

"Out of morbid curiosity, forget what?" You ask.
"Forget about Warhammer-culture-game-boring-pawnless." He responded, and tilted his head. "You remember, so you resist Dominance-****-Dominance-****-Control. Pawn-Battleaxe-Primary-Primary-Battleaxe discovered the idea and I-Duke-Duke-Myself liked it."
>>
>>20264436
They're the reason no one knows about Warhammer 40k?! Those bastards!
>>
>>20264436
Couldn't you have made people forget about Infinity, instead?
>>
>>20264436
"You made everyone forget about 40k so you could establish it in real life. Awesome, dude."
>>
>>20264464
Replace end of statement with "I find this an acceptable trade."
>>
"You made everyone forget about 40k so you could establish it in real life. Awesome, dude."
"Not a game, but still fun."
". . I find this an acceptable trade."
"Now." The emperor said, having finished his plate. He stood, and bowed. "To buisiness-trade-bargain-transaction."
"Business? What kind of business?" Amy asked.

"Battle comes soon. Kin-rivals-enemies-brothers-siblings-family-rivals-family-rivals-family-rivals-family-rivals-family-
rivals-family-rivals-family-"
He bangs on the speaker, and it stops stuttering.
"They come. They will wormhole-tunnel-burrow to outer home-sun-solar system, they will teleport-translocate-move tools-stupid-weapon to earth-terra-third. Battleaxe-primary-tool-pawn is there, but I am obliged-forced-ruled to inform you."
>>
>>20264518
"Well. That's not good, is it?. Any more cool artifacts that might help in your base that might help"
>>
>>20264518
Ask him what he would want for the knowledge to make Grayson's girlfriend UDW compatible again.
>>
>>20264518
Don't suppose you can give me a time frame and/or an idea of where they'll pop up?

<Amy. Azure. After dinner, we need to start making warp bombs. Miniature evac teleporters with embedded teleport jammers.>
>>
"Don't suppose you can give me a time frame or an idea of where they'll pop up?"
"Can give time-when. Won't. Can give location. Obliged-forced-forced to."
He stood, to his full height, and then gently touched one of the computers.

<Coordinates recieved.> Onyx said. <It's somewhere behind the moon.>

"Deal-trade-balance-obligation done." He said.

"Do you know how to make Karin compatible with the IDW again?"
"Yes."
"What would you want for it?" You ask.

"Do not fight my kin-enemies-rival-species until-if battleaxe-primary-tool-primary dies-deceases-overturned." He said. "Deal-transaction?"
>>
>>20264618
No deal. Too much collateral involved.
>>
>>20264618
"So, don't start shooting until Battleaxe is killed then. Sounds fair enough, I'll even throw in a nice tea recipe for you."
>>
>>20264618
Change it from deceased to merely disabled, and we have a deal.
>>
>>20264618
"I'm not sure I can stand by that long, especially if they come to me."

"Speaking of 'fixing' things, there anything that can be done so Dani's not so uncomfortable all the time?"
>>
"I'm not sure I can stand by that long, especially if they come to me." You say.
He shrugged. "No deal-transaction."
"Speaking of 'fixing' things, there anything that can be done so Dani's not so uncomfortable all the time?"
"Maybe-possibly-risky." He said. "Marquis-kin-neutral-brother was bad at creation-birthing-construct. Can try. No promises."
Dani's eyes widened.
"You can?"
"Maybe-possibly-risky-risky-danger." He said. "Will do without cost. Enemy-Dave-Bullfrog-Pawn-Enemy-Pawn's choice."
The emperor turned to you.

>[] Attempt to help Dani?
>[] Decline. No use risking it.
>>
>>20264743
"Do you want to try Dani?"
>>
>>20264743
He should tell us what he will do before we decide.
>>
>>20264743
It's Dani's call. We'd be pretty hypocritical if we decided for her, especially since the risk is all hers.

Hello Exabyte.
>>
"Do you want to try, Dani?"
Dani nodded, frantically.
"Well, it's Dani's call." You say.
"Understood." The Emperor said, and then with a single hand, slammed Dani into the wall. She screamed, coughing up blood. The wall dented, badly, and the whole ship seemed to shudder. He stared closely at her. . and then started choking, and gagging. Slowly, he regurgitated something small, and pulsing. He took the small object, and held it up to Dani's mouth.
"Eat." He said. "Do not chew."
Reluctantly, and Dani swallowed it. . and then her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she collapsed.

"Done." He said. "She may die. She may become true-human-pawn-tool-true-true-human-construct."
>>
>>20264855
"So no more super-strength?"
>>
>>20264855
>She may become true-human-pawn-tool-true-true-human-construct

Whoa, that kinda sucks.
>>
>>20264855
"How long before we know?"
>>
>>20264875
this.
>>
"How long before we know?"
He raised up a few fingers. . and then lowered them.
"One terra-earth-third day-cycle-spin."
"One day." Amy said. The emperor nodded.

"So no more super-strength?"
"No more." He said. "Strength is from kin-family body-physiology-body. Uncomfortable for human-fake. She will not mind, but do not let her fight. Will be weaker than grown-human-true-born."

He stopped crushing her against the wall, and pulled his hand away.
"May be face-changes-morphs." He mentioned, offhand. "Will there be anything else?"
>>
>>20264935
"I don't think so."

Let's get Dani somewhere comfortable. Preferably near the autodoc in case things start to go badly.
>>
>>20264935
"Want some pie?"
>>
>>20264935
"Yeah. Did you enjoy dinner?"
>>
"Yeah. Did you enjoy dinner?"
"I did." He said. "Food-nutrients-foodstuffs-taste was good. Compliments to Amy-Naga-neutral-murderer."
"Uh. . what?" Amy asked.
"Amy-naga-murderer-neutral." The emperor said. "Nine-hundred-thirty-seven personal kills of human-pawn-tool. I-duke-myself impressed."
"How do you know that?" Amy asked. "Even I don't know that."

The emperor started wheezing, and sniggering, and then it turned into full-blown laughter. As he cackled, he vanished into blue light, and was gone.

Everyone was silent for a moment. . and then you picked Dani up and took her down to the infirmary, where the auto-doc waited, setting her down on the bed. As you carry her, you feel her entire body burbling and churning, something inside of her twisting and shaking. You try to deepscan her, but you get nothing- just blurred everything.
>>
We should have done that after the battle with the Emperors.
>>
>>20265073
Call Jun and ask her if she would mind watching over Dani.
>>
>>20265073
"Well, you heard the alium, the invasion of Earth begins soon, so if you want to stay and help that's fine. Or we can drop you off at home"
>>
>>20265073
"Damn, look's like Earth is getting invaded. Any ideas for some slick new weapons, Amy?"
>>
>>20265073
<Not even four digits Amy. For shame.>
>>
>>20265187
Teasing: <You built it up too much, hearing the real number is a big let down now.>
>>
<Not even four digits, Amy. For shame.>
< . . . I am mildly offended he called me a murderer.> Amy responded, frowning.
<You built it up too much, hearing the real number is a big let down now.>
<All I did to build it up was to let you know you'd never reach it. And since we're retiring after this. . You never will. So there.> She said.

"Well." You say, walking back into the dining room. "You heard the alium. The invasion of earth beings soon, so if you want to stay and help, that's fine, or we can drop you off at home."
"You have my help." Grayson said.
"Mine too." Lucca added.
"Statement: I will need to take my true shell back from Gazebo." Rust said.
Karin huffed. "Go ahead and send me home. I won't be able to do anything anyway."
Azure, Delta, and Phi all stood by your side.

Abel shrugged. "I. . have to say, I won't be able to do much. I have a gun... but you saw what happened last time. I think you should send me back, too."
>>
>>20265264
Send the ones who want to leave.

"Shit, I feel bad about Karin now."
>>
>>20265300
"Amy, when this is over, remind me that I need to start looking for ways to make the Bullfrog more friendly to former IDW users. Maybe a one-point combined jack or something."
>>
>>20265264
Abel, while you're on Earth I'd like you to work with Daedalus and make sure no one on earth does anything extremely stupid and detrimental to our mission and let me know if that happens.

Also keep an eye on Battleaxe and ArmaTek.

Karin, I'm sorry about not taking up the deal but it could end up a lot of people hurt if I did. Once this little scuffle is over I'll do everything I can to help you.
>>
"Abel, while you're on earth, I'd like you to work with Daedalus and make sure no one on earth does anything extremely stupid and detrimental to our mission and let me know if that happens."
"Right." He said.
"Keep an eye on Battleaxe and ArmaTek, too."
"Of course. You expect anything different?"
He clapped you on the shoulder.
"Good luck, dude." He says.
<Onyx, take him away!>
Abel vanishes in a flash of blue light.

"Karin, I'm sorry about not taking up the deal, but it could end up a lot of people hurt if I did. Once this little scuffle is over I'll do everything I can to help you."
". . Just take good care of John." She says- she almost sounds frustrated.
"I will." You respond, and urge onyx to send her home, too.

"I feel bad about Karin now." You say. "Amy, when this is over, remind me that I need to start looking for ways to make the Bullfrog more friendly to former IDW users. Maybe a one-point combined jack or something."
"I will." She said. "It's all in my super awesome infinite internal storage. Or whatever." She said.

Finally, you call up Jun.
"Doctor Viridian here, but I'm, uh. . " She said, slurring. "Rather indisposed at the moment. Can I take a message?"
Oh.
Right.
>>
>>20265337
>Karin, I'm sorry about not taking up the deal but it could end up a lot of people hurt if I did. Once this little scuffle is over I'll do everything I can to help you.
This is an excellent thing to say, we should say it.
>>
>>20265392
Huh, doc's getting drunk?
>>
>>20265392
"It's Dave. Never mind, I'll call later. Have fun Jun."
>>
>>20265392
"Jun, Dani's undergoing a metamophosis, she's out for about a day, and I'm concerned about having her on the ship wile we're about to enter space combat with the invading aliens that tried to kill us all. Do you have a bed we could put her on?"
>>
>>20265392
You know you could have joined us for a drinking party.

Look, I'm looking for your professional medical advice. What should I expect when my little sister who is an Alium construct and facsimile of a human is given a pill by a different Alium to turn her into a real human?
>>
"Look, I'm looking for your professional medical advice. What should I expect when my little sister who is an Alium construct and facsimile of a human is given a pill by a different Alium to turn her into a real human?"
"Goddamnit, Dave." Jun says, and sighs. "Just waist deep in weird shit. Always. Even when I'm taking a break. Just go call. . someone. Take 'er to a general hospital or something."
"I'm concerned about having her on the ship wile we're about to enter space combat with the invading aliens that tried to kill us all. Do you have a bed we could put her on?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, send 'er up to my office. I can put her on the autodoc's bed. Can't work on 'er though, definitely not like this."
>>
>>20265450
"You won't need to... most likely."
>>
>>20265450
"It's okay Jun. Sorry for bothering you."
>>
>>20265450
"That's fine, I think she just needs somewhere to lay. Thanks. Sorry for bothering you."
>>
>>20265450
"Hey, Amy, feel like scaling up the disintegration cannon for the big event? Actually, can we set up disintegration-array's on the moon?"
>>
>>20265472
We'd need more nanometa for that, though we might be able to just buy it or justify it being given to us because we're saving the world.

When you're using the slipstream drive are you effected by time dilation? If so we can make more of it very fast by sending Sleipnir out for a day and back at 99.99% the speed of light with enough stuff to chew through to make a lot of nanometa.
>>
Should we really teleport Dani in her current state?
>>
>>20265507
That's true. We might want to actually fly her down there.
>>
>>20265472
"Ladies and gentlemen, let's get started. I think we should start by weaponizing a teleporter/jammer combo as a warp bomb."
>>
"That's fine. I think she just needs somewhere to lay."
"I can do that." Jun said. "Jus' send her here and I'll set her down."
"Right." You say. <Onyx?>

The teleporter activates, and you hear Jun mumble something, and you hear shifting from her end of the connection. "'Kay." She said. "Alli's asleep. . Poor girl. Good luck, Dave. But don't make me do brain surgery on things without brains, 'kay? Jus'. . .things don't work right. Don' make sense."

You say your goodbyes, and hang up.

"Okay." You say. "Ladies and Gentlemen, let's get started. I think we should start by weaponizing a teleporter/jammer combo as a warp bomb."
"Warp bomb?" K asks.
"Send in a teleporter, weaponize it by setting the jammer to teleport objects around wildly. Worked really well in the VR Dome, although on accident." Azure said. "I think I can design it, but they'll be rather expensive, and one use."

>1 warp bomb per 100 nanometa.
>How many do you build?
>>
>>20265552
I suggest six.
>>
>>20265552
Six sounds good. And handful of jammers in case there's more ships.
>>
>>20265567
That seems like a good start.

Also, see if we can acquire some extra nanometa from VanCo. Even though ArmaTek stole their purloined generator.
>>
>>20265552
They'd be reusable, hypothetically. If they figured they'd done enough destruction they can turn off the jamming and teleport back into our bomb storage.

6 could work, we'd need jammers as well.

We need more nanometa. Maybe we can make puppy dog eyes at VanCo and cite the fact that the world is in danger.
>>
>>20265603
Couldn't we just get some from ArmaTek's pilfered generator?
>>
>>20265629
We're only allies by convenience with ArmaTec. We aren't really on good terms with them. Plus we can't really get in touch with Battleaxe.
>>
"Six of them." You say. "And a bunch of extra jammers, just in case."
"I'll get to work." Azure said, and turned away.

>Nano-Meta: 1600 remaining.

Next, you call VanCo, this time skipping directly to calling Gareth's personal phone.

"So." Verne says, clearly. "You call off your assassins, whoever the fuck they are, and you get your VP back."

What.
>>
>>20265640
> Plus we can't really get in touch with Battleaxe.
Well, he is quite old and influental. I bet Dad knows him.
>>
>>20265657
Erm, this is Dave. Are you expecting somebody else to call?
>>
>>20265657
"Verne! Well, this is awkward."
>>
>>20265657
"Sup Verne. I was actually calling to get nano-goop from Gareth."
>>
>>20265657
"Well Verne, I would, but the Adeptus Soritas swore a blood oath to my 'drites to never quit a mission. 'Sup?"
>>
>>20265657
Verne? What are you doing there? Why is VanCo after you? I just wanted some nano-goop to save earth. Am I going to have to add another company to my list?

Oh, by the way we need to talk about something utterly non work related, it can wait though.
>>
"Verne! Well, this is awkward."
<Verne?> Amy mouths and says through the connection
"It is." Verne said. You hear mumbling in the background. "Oh, shaddup, you. Anyway, Dave, turns out Van Co hired the guys to kill the old crew. Something about these missing artifacts being connected to Sanya, and some 'K' girl."
"I was actually calling to get nano-goop from Gareth."
"No can do." Verne said. "He probably could get you some, but I can't really let him call anyone. He'd cry for help. Not to mention, they stopped selling the stuff."
More mumbling started up.
"Just drug him, man." Verne says.
"Ah. Right." You hear someone else say, rather far from the phone, in a thick slavic accent.
>>
>>20265657
"Verne. This is Dave. Did I miss a development?"

<Amy. Question Minerva about assassinations?>
>>
>>20265724
"Well we've got K with us here. And yeah those missing artifacts ARE connected to them actually. I don't know anything about the assassins though."
>>
>>20265724
"Huh. Well I guess I'm tied up in this too then, K is under my protection right now. I thought it was Armatek after her though, not VanCo.
Listen, I've got a pretty good rapport with Gareth, how about Amy and I pop on over and we can discuss the whole situation over the best tea you've ever had?"
>>
>>20265724
Inform Amy of what Verne's saying, ask her to talk to Minerva about it, see if he has anything that might help.
>>
>>20265724
Well I got K, nice girl. Do you want me to visit, I can be very scary when I want to be, I think it's the mask.

I was planning on just buying some goop, but if he's been a bad person I would be completely justified in just stealing it right?
>>
"Well, we've got K with us here. And yeah, those missing artifacts *are* connected to them, actually." You say. At the same time, you send amy the record of yours and Verne's conversation.
<Question Minerva about it, will you?>
<Kay, Dave.> Amy said, rolling toward Minerva's computer. <After you're done, though, I want to talk to him before you hang up.>
"Really." He said. "According to the big G over here, ArmaTek and Van Co have both been wrestling over those artifacts. The two teensy black ones weren't important, but there was some kind of bracer thing that was *really* important."
>>
>>20265829
"Well K has it now, and since she's under my protection it's out of their reach."
>>
>>20265829
"Bracer thing? Any idea what it does?"

<Do we have a bracer thing, Amy>
>>
>>20265829
"Huh. Interesting. It sounds familiar, but I'm not sure if I ever had it. Hey, can you put Gareth on the line? I need to scold him for killing my friend's friends. After that, he's all yours."
>>
>>20265724
"They're connected in that Van Co unearthed them on Mars."
Cover the mouthpiece.

"K. That wrist-thing of yours. Where'd you get it?"
>>
>>20265829
"'Bracer thing'? Hah, I bet it was ol' Duke's wrist control-computer-thing. It's been busted for about six months."
>>
>>20265862
I think that the bracer thing is K's.

>>20265829
Two black ones, were these the ones transported in a van or something a couple months ago that got into an accident?

If so you can tell him that they aren't retrievable.
>>
"Bracer thing? Any idea what it does?"
"No clue." Verne said. "Apparently ArmaTek's been trying to get their hands on it since they first brought it back from mars. Isn't that right, buddy?"
You hear a groan.
"Yeah, that's right. If I can figure out how to get the camera on this damn phone to work . ."
<Do we have a bracer thing, Amy?>
<Uh, just my wrist computer.> She said. <Although I don't even use it anymore.>

"Aha." Verne said, and suddenly you can see through the smartphone headset. "See, he's got these pictures." He said, and his vision whirrs through Gareth's office- you see Oleg, Gareth tied up and gagged, and a man you've never seen before. Oleg and the man are both carrying rifles.
"Right here." He said, showing you a picture.

It's an emperor wrist computer. Doesn't look anything like K's.
"How long did G say it was missing for, Dresden?"
"Six months." The unshaven man responded.
"Right, six months." Verne said.
>>
>>20265927
"Huh. I've never seen it before."
>>
>>20265927
"Yeah, thought so. Nope, that's long gone. Busted open in the van crash that started this entire thing. Never personally saw one till a week or so ago, but that one? Long gone."
>>
>>20265927
Don't we still have the one we extracted the exotic matter from? They can have it, if it stops them from targetting Verne.
>>
>>20265927
"Oh. OH!

Verne, I think this whole thing is just a huge misunderstanding. Let me port on over there with Amy in a few minutes and I can explain everything. Don't go killing him just yet, I suspect you're going to get a real apology out of him."
>>
>>20265927
Huh, I've seen those before. It's an Emperor wrist computer, I think I might know what happened to it.

They were transporting it in a van, they has a crash and ran into someone. Ask him if that's what happened.

"Right... Go on speakerphone mode, please."

"Hey, Oleg. How you doin'? Got anything good in stock? Gonna have to check in once this all blows over. So. Gareth. I told you, man. I told you a long, long time ago, you fucking little monkey, not to FUCK ME. We've had an excellent professional relationship, Gareth. I liked you. I was considering going out for drinks with you one of these days. But you, by proxy, have stabbed me in the back, by stabbing my friends in the back, Gareth, over technowhatzits I probably could've found dozens of out in the wide expanse of space. You fucked me. Now, as you've fucked me, I fuck YOU. Do whatever you want with him, Verne. His constant, slightly irritating professionalism was one thing; treachery and murder is another. I don't care about his wellbeing at this point, and I don't owe him any favors."
>>
"Yeah, thought so. Nope, that's long gone. Busted open in the van crash that started this entire thing. Never personally saw one till a week or so ago, but that one? Long gone."
"Huh. So they killed Sanya for nothing." He said.
"Verne, I think this whole thing is just a huge misunderstanding. Let me port on over there with Amy in a few minutes, and I can explain everything. Don't go killing him just yet, I suspect you're going to get a real apology out of him."
"Hurm. . . Okay. I don't like the idea of letting things teleport in, but go ahead. You two- my niece and one mean motherfucker's teleporting in. Don't shoot 'em."

<Take us in, Onyx.>

With a flash of light, you and Amy appeared in Gareth's office, surprised by how dark it'd already gotten.
<Huh. Not even tired. Strange.> Amy said. <I guess I *don't* need to sleep.>

"Amy. Dave." Verne said.
"Oh, hello. I know you." Oleg said, waving to you. "You bought the box Sanya told me to get rid of."
"You *knew* it was something people were looking for? And you sold it to my boyfriend?"
Oleg just shrugged.
"Anyway." Verne said, and took the gag out of Gareth's mouth. "Go ahead and explain to this man, Dave, exactly what the misunderstanding was."

"About six months ago I was just a normal dude going about his business when I got hit by a van and broke my spine, then gained superpowers. At first I had thought the superpowers came from a strange combination of the Gen-3 Bullfrog and my own unique physiology. I recently found out that there was one more ingredient to that - exotic matter. I also found out that this same kind of exotic matter is found in Emperor wristbands, and then Verne just told me one was stolen from one of your vans about six months ago.

The stuff that made that wristband work has been coating my spinal cord for the last six months, Gareth. We didn't know because it doesn't really show up on medical scans.

It wasn't anyone's fault. It was just a wacky series of accidents and assumptions and bad reactions.

I guess while I'm telling you stuff I should also tell you that I have some evidence that Battleaxe was the one who stole your Nanometa generator and that I might be able to get ahold of another wristband for you."
>>
>>20266166
Hey there Gareth.

Right, that van you were sending stuff in, it crashed, turned my spine into goop and gave me super powers. The artifacts in there are gone. Also if you needed Alium artifacts you could have asked me, I pick them up by the bucketful.

Then you decided to go after these people, you killed Verne's buddies and sent kill squads him, I consider him a friend of mine, that does not put you in my good books.
>>
>>20266166
"The bracer you're looking for, I believe it was being transported by van? A) It was an Emperor wrist-computer. B) Said van plowed into me and wrecked. The majority of the exotic mater which made said wrist computer special somehow wound up threaded along my spine. Probably a result of my injuries. There is no longer anything to recover, and hasn't been for a good six months. If you want a wrist comp carcass, though, I think I might have one laying around I can spare to call the whole thing even."
>>
>>20266166
Well you see there was a van with alium stuff on it. And then it ran me over and crashed. Hire better drivers next time.
The Emperor computer was smashed and all the weird shit in it was absorbed by everyone who was wounded nearby. The other stuff was looted by Resurgence and then Sanya fought them and took it so he didn't really have anything to do with it, he didn't even know what it was.
>>
"The bracer you were looking for." You say. "It was transported by van, correct?"
"Yeah, to EE." Gareth said.
"First of all, it was an emperor wrist computer, full to the brim with exotic matter. Second of all, said van plowed into me and wrecked. The majority of the exotic matter ended up threaded along my spine, probably a result of my injuries. There's no longer anything to recover, and it hasn't been for a good six months. If you want a wrist computer, though, I think I might have one lying around I can spare, to call the whole thing even."

Gareth grumbled to himself.
"Wasn't my choice." He said. "Orders were made from above."
>>
>>20266325

"Interesting." you say. "I've never met the head of VanCo. I think this makes an excellent opportunity for you to introduce me."
"Can't." He said. "Darrow's been gone for months. He just shows up spontaniously every few days."
"What orders, exactly?"
"'Prevent ArmaTek from getting a hold of the artifact.'" He said, quoting. "'Use assassins, agents, connections, contacts, nano-meta, and credits as necessary.' But if it's destroyed, then I can call everyone off."
>>
>>20266398
An odd order, since I'm fairly sure he could get one from the source if he really needed it.
>>
>>20266398
"And when did Darrow last show up?"
>>
>>20266398
What was so important about the computer? I didn't get anything useful from mine.
>>
>>20266410
That wrist comp WAS Duke's wrist comp. All the Emp tech on mars is from when Bubbles crashed there, and Duke ran off to Neptune.
>>
>>20266398
"Wait, Darrow? ArmaTek's private island was listed as owned by Darrow. I would not be shocked to learn this is more of Battleaxe's Nietzche bullshit."
>>
"And when did Darrow last show up?"
"He's checked in every few days." Gareth said. "But the last real order he gave me was a few weeks ago. Told me to hire Tolstoy and her companion to defeat the rogue AI on the mars facility."
"Mars?" Dresden asked, with a sneer.
>>
>>20266455
That doesn't tell us much. Also Am's our boss now?
>>
>>20266455
Yes, Mars. Where all the Alium stuff came from.
>>
>>20266455
"Yeah, Mars. VanCo has a base there. Digging up artifacts & such. It's what started this whole mess. They accidentally found an Emperor wormhole drive, the AI was programmed to 'KEEP IT SECRET KEEP IT SECRET' and went absolutely apeshit, killed everyone, I cleaned it up, and then the Emperors went apeshit when I used the wormhole drive. So. Question is, what do we do with VanCo now?"
>>
>>20266455
"Don't laugh Dresden. We have bullshit FTL teleportation technology. We've been outside the galaxy even."
>>
>>20266455

>>

>>

>>

Darrow is not, by any chance, a 6 food cybernetic lizard creature from neptune?
>>
"Don't laugh, Dresden. We have bullshit FTL teleportation technology. We've been outside the galaxy even."
"Really. Were there giant, super-sapient space squids?" He asked, chuckling.
"Yes." Amy said. "Yes there was. It gave us alchohol and repeatedly claimed it was beyond our understanding."
"Pffhahahaha-"
"Totally serious right now." Amy said. Dresden ignored her, and doubled over, giggling to himself.
"Darrow is not, by any chance, a 12-foot cybernetic lizard creature from neptune?" You ask, entirely seriously. Dresden continues giggling.
"Erm. . no, not last time I checked." Gareth said. "He's, uh, rather rotund, with white hair, a goatee and glasses. Wears colorful ties."
>>
>>20266584

"The evil mastermind of VanCo is John Goodman with a beard?"
"He's not evil." Gareth said. "Just. . rather bumbling."

"Dresden, you'd better stop laughing or I'll give you some space squid tea. It's horrible."
That just set Dresden off on another attack of giggling.
"Dresden." Verne said, sharply. "We're on a mission."
Quickly, Dresden regained control of himself, and nodded.
"So, where can I find Darrow? It looks like we need to talk."
"I don't know." Gareth said. "He's always been. . floating along, I suppose. Even our satellites can't find him. And I need to, because we lost the nano-meta generator."

"We *did*." Gareth said, exasperated. "But we don't even have *records* of what exactly happened. Eyewitness reports said nothing was out of the ordinary. It just plain vanished."

<I apologize, lord, but neither beings may be found. They are not under my watchful eyes, and they are not in this world.> Daedalus said, somewhat downcast.

Dresden frowned.
"Tch, go ahead." Verne said. "If you say anything like a code word, though, and then Dresden gets to show you how your spleen tastes."
". . Right." Gareth said. With a mono-knife, Oleg cut him free, and then Gareth picked up his headset, and made a call.
"Call it off." He said to whoever was on the other end. "The mission was a success, as per my orders. Yes, go ahead and run whatever checks you want. I'm legit. I can confirm it in twenty-four hours. Yes. come up to the building and meet me, I'll tell you in person."

He hung up.
"They need to confirm it's me, and that I'm not being held by any. . say, mercenaries." He said, in a dry tone.

>>20268620
Nah, we mostly just share strange pet theories with Exabyte about the overarching plot and play Traveler.

I was also a part of the Dragon Quest IRC, I know how fucked up that got. Vedibere alone influenced more of the quest from there than any other single person for the entire game.

which IRC? and how do I access it?

assume I know nothing about IRC and start from there...

Still annoying when some people have a more direct line to the OP than the rest of the anons.

http://client03.chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.rizon.net&channel=%23exabyte should work
>>
>>20268715
Go to mibbit.com, in the drop down list find 'rizon' and select it. Put a name in, then put '#exabyte' (with the hash but without the quotes) in the channel box. Press connect.

What was Dragon Quest like? Wasn't it one of those ultra-long-runner quests, like Frost Giantess Quest? Never did get beyond the first ten threads or so of that.
>>
>>20268723
I understand, but at the same time we don't have any real influence on anything unless it's inadvertently giving him ideas that screw over Dave. Which we very much try to avoid.
>>
>>20268736
It ended very poorly, for almost everybody involved in playing it.

ENDLESS WAIFU WARS

there was no correct choice.
>>
>>20268736
It was a good 30 threads or so. Writer-Dude was pretty great at writing, and every time he posted it was like six-thousand characters spread out across three posts. But he also took like an hour to write and post them.

But how can you fuck up DRAGON QUEST? It's so simple. Be big. Be egotistical. Be bombastic. Be a scaly town-ruining monster. Get gold. Get bitches. Eat bitches. How hard is that?

>>20268761
W-waifu wars? Oh, merde.

>>20268762
That much I already knew. I read the first thread or so and a little more after. There's huge gaps in the archive, annoyingly.

How did the adventures of a dickass Red Dragon turn into waifu wars? And can I get some more detail beyond that?
>>
>>20268796
Met a devil of some sort, made her waifu. Met a gold dragon named Cygnus or something, made her a slave and mindraped her.
>>
>>20268796
>Eat bitches.
We kinda failed there.
>>
>>20268796
not that i really want to go into it, but there were two factions, the be smart evil and stick with the succubus, or be sneakyevil/redeemed and stick with a silver dragon.

LOLRANDUM EVIL won, as we brutally raped the silver's life, horde, family and soul. The the succubus got preggers.

Well first we got an Erinyes and added her to the hoard. She was never officially a wife, but a possession and a trusted lieutenant. She was content to be as much and completely devoted.

Then we met Cygnis and half the players hatched a plot to also turn her into a possession, though in a much less willing fashion. Events in the game forced us away from her and the plan got put on hold for about a dozen threads before being enacted - at which point the other half of the players plus everyone who'd joined in since then felt like they got blindsighted by suddenly kidnapping and mindraping her.

There was also a thing with another red dragon in the north whose name I don't recall. There were a lot of suggestions of either pulling another Cygnis on her or taking her up on her offer of a partnership, it got real messy.

There was a third dragon, a silver that also got in the mix as a non-trusted lieutenant who some players wanted.

So you had a lot of people who were paranoid of one or more of these and wanted to fuck one or more of the others. It was pretty bad.

>Met a devil of some sort
I remember that.
>made her waifu.
Guess that's a pretty natural progression, y'all were an evil bastard of a red dragon, right?
>Met a gold dragon named Cygnus or something
I don't like where this is going...
>made her a slave and mindraped her.
I definitely do not like where this has gone.

>>20268813
You never fuck the virgin maidens, man! Or any of the maidens! You have them for a midnight snack or hold them for ransom! The fuck is wrong wit'chu?

>>20268816
>the be smart evil and stick with the succubus, or be sneakyevil/redeemed and stick with a silver dragon.
Neither of these sound so ba-
>LOLRANDUM EVIL won, as we brutally raped the silver's life, horde, family and soul.
Why.
>The the succubus got preggers.
Double why.

>>20268824
ONLY THE BEGINNING? GOD DAMN. What happened after all THAT?
>>
>>20268851
I don't know what happened after that, I decided that my time could be better spent gargling battery acid.
>>
>>20268851
>why erinyes preggers
Because it was the only thing she asked for as a reward for her service. So yeah, we got her with child by a daughter. A half-dragon erinyes is some OP shit by the way.

By that point we were a self-styled Sorcerer King of an island nation and spoiled the crap out of our daughter.
>>
>>20268620
It's #Exabyte on Rizon. It's not that secret. We've also been using it for a Traveller game for the past couple weeks.
>>
>>20268816
You're mistaken, we fucked up the gold dragon's life. The silver came later and we just kinda put her under enforced contract.
A lot of players wanted to pull the mindrape whammy on her too, but we never actually went through with it.
>>
>>20268894
Sorry, yes a gold. I knew it was a metalic, and just typing that out made me angry enough to write the wrong one.
>>
>>20268871
Can I join you? That sounds fun by comparison. This is painful to learn about.

>>20268874
See, now, that all sounds awesome. Why it gotta be spoiled by bullshit dragon mindrape and stuff? Draconic dictators with devilish children in fantasy Tropico. Fan-fucking-tastic. And yet it is tainted by IRC surprise suggestions and the suggestions being pants on head retarded.

How did Dragon Quest die?
>>
>>20268871
>>20268851
I think quite a few players abandoned the ship at that point. I know I did.

The was some other guy who got the permission from the OP of the original quest to do a reboot, or a sequel. But I never followed those threads and I think he disappeared rather quickly.
>>
>>20268931
OP just up and left, I believe.
>>
>>20268931
OP announced he would have to go back to his home planet. Something about not having enough time for this any more, I think.

That poor bastard.

That'll never happen to Space Cyborg Quest, thankfully, since we're wrapping it up. But... I fear for Sorceress Quest part 2.

>>20269035
Don't worry, we have a good idea where Exabyte lives.

I'm hoping exabyte can keep it under control. If it gets particularly bad, I'm expecting every possible husbando to get kidnapped/murdered.
>>
>>20269051

To be fair, I would rather have him disappear than end up as some really fucked up existence, spending his days doing some quests for bronies and furfags like it happened to the guy who did Ruby quest.

That's not the right term for that? I thought it was waifu if the MC was male, regardless of what they were, and vice versa.

IIRC:
Cygnis was originally found captured and bound by a cult. She had some serious trust issues after that, but we manipulated her into thinking that we were the only one she could trust because we saved her. She had a great deal invested in making Freeport a better place and several political connections there as a result.
Her brother showed up to help, he clearly lusted after her and was a total prick to us, constantly belittling and insulting us. He also expressed interest in our Erinyes. After he came a little TOO close to discovering our secret of being a fucking dragon, we tricked him, got him into our secret basement and killed him with a dragon slaying sword. There were no objections.
At that point we decided to skin him and shove the rest of the body down the bottomless pit because, hey dragonleather is valuable stuff.
Just as things were starting to go well for us in Freeport, the council decided to kick us out and we were forced to relocate. There wasn't much Cygnis could do about it, but she did express romantic interest in our persona.
>>
>>20269134
Several threads later we teleported over, said we had to see her and spent a night with her. Then clapped some special anti-magic dimensional anchor and some other anti-bullshit manacles on her and teleported her back to our new volcanic island lair where she was taunted for a bit.
Then entered our Erinyes wearing a gold dragon dress which she casually discarded at Cygnis' feet. It was made of her brothers scales, and enchanted to force her to feel pleasure every time she touched it. Since it was the only thing she really had to wear, she was forced to.
The next several months were spent with the Erinyes coming in and torturing her, followed by us coming in and making her feel better and trying to get her to accept her new place. By the end of it she probably didn't know which way was up, much less what was right and wrong. All she knew was that she didn't want to displease us, ever.

A lot of players didn't really understand why we did this. Especially a few who particularly liked Cygnis. Others insisted that we could never be nice to her because we could never really trust her, and that to have her as a possession would be the only way to have her, and that this was the only way to ensure we could keep her safely.
>>
>>20269118
Who knows, it's a 2 years time skip. And I always classified it as more of a pity fuck than anything else.
>>
>>20269177
But the Kalak are a long lived and slow aging species, Kaliel won't have aged that mu... Wait, you mean Raziel, don't you?

Maybe.
>>
I'm shipping Ishelda/Grayson (Human Form).
>>
>>20269238
don't you mean IsheldaxGrayson (Bear)
>>
>>20269225
Who knows. I was one of the original Ish/Raz supports in the old SOCQ threads, but depending on how much drama that would cause, I'd probably be willing not to pursue it.

I'd however expect everybody else to abandon their favourites as well. So no Grayson, or whoever else is popular.
