Let's get some creativity flowing. Post anything you think would make the Legend of Zelda universe a more functional universe to run a campaign in. I will save everything, filter them appropriately and try to include them in the Legend of Zelda RPG under the heading of "Tips for running a successful campaign"

I'll start with a few
>There is an empire north of Hyrule, which is why they have a castle there
>All settlements are actually fuckhuge because they need genetic stability
>Hyrule field is farmland
>Gerudo is a recessive trait of Hyliens, the reason they are all female is because males are regular Hyliens

I'll bump with more. pic unrelated
>>
>Hyrule field has a necromancer vampire or some shit that summons the skeletons at night
>>
>There is a prosperous trade nation west of Gerudo Desert, which is why they even bother with the bandit filled wastes
>>
You mean 'Ocarina of Time RPG'
>>
>>20305817
I'm crowdsourcing for a reason. I may know OoT and MM best, but I recognize they arn't all LoZ.

>Lake Hyrule empties into the Great Sea from MM
>>
>Ikana left ruins of forts and such scattered around Hyrule
>>
Isn't the spirit tracks land west of Hyrule?
>>
>>20306755
The coast is in the southeast, so most likely. Technichally it's also an ocean's worth of height above as well, though.
>>
>>20307306
good point, did they ever explain that? why it wasn't flooded
>>
>>20305931
MM isn't part of Zelda world as a whole. It's more of a wonderland-esq trip of madness.
>>
>>20307446
not uncommon, look at Link's Awakening
>>
>>20307395
Because Hyrule =/= the entire planet. Just a country/region.

If Russia flooded tomorrow, Australia would still be dry.
>>
>and try to include them in the Legend of Zelda RPG
Don't you kind of need an LoZ RPG first?
>>
>>20305622
well i think that leopards in hats would be a fantastic addtion to hyrule
>>
>>20307819
It's almost done
>>
>>20305622
>Gerudo is a recessive trait of Hyliens, the reason they are all female is because males are regular Hyliens
To expand on this one:

>In order to keep their race alive, radical Gerudo sometimes kidnap men and keep them as breeding stock. They favor young, vigorous males for their hopeful longevity.
>>
>>20307891
Last time I heard that it got abandoned for a few months, scrapped and started over.

Looking forward to the next reboot though.

Does EVERYTHING need to be fetish fuel?
>>
So have we decided how to handle the Legend of Zelda timeline yet?
>>
>>20307950
This is /tg/.
Yes.
>>
>>20307950
>fetish fuel
Really? You get turned on by rape and imprisonment of young men? Something is wrong with you.

I was going to make a new thread soonish anyway, this thread seems good enough.

For a recap of the current state of the project, you can check out this thread: http://archive.foolz.us/tg/thread/20276940/

>>20308008
At the moment, we aren't. We're most likely going to have a generic Hyrule, with its Lake Hylias and Koriki Woods and so on. Timelines aren't being touched, both because it's more work and the fact that someone will disagree with whatever we come up with. DMs can pretty much use anything, for example:
Link might be a long dead hero, alive in the time of the party, or maybe even never have existed at all.
>>
>>20307773
I always saw the great flood as a worldwide kind of deal, with the water being insanely high enough to go over the usual barriers that generally restrict floods. Thus, I'd say that it was just really high before the flood.

It's a moot point though, as we can't have a worldwide ocean in this game. We should definitely have an ocean though, so we can put in some stuff from the ocean-heavy games. West of Gerudo desert seems a good location. It's not a trade COUNTRY, but the ocean makes for excellent commerce.
>>
>>20308766
Lake Hylia has to drain somewhere though...
>>
>>20308683
None of that is anywhere near being canon. How can you call this a LoZ game if you're blatantly ignoring a core element?
>>
>>20308847
because it makes it easier to run a campaign.

When you come up with a way to play a party of adventurers in a tabletop campaign set in Hyrule that's more faithful to canon than one of those options, let us know.

>>20308824
I'm pretty sure that lakes don't need to drain. In fact I believe that water drains into them.
>>
>>20309008
only the ocean doesn't drain, minus wierd shit in africa where it drains into the ground
>>
Termina/Hyrule's in a state of near civil war as the different species quarrel. Do something about it/kill the other side for fun, profit, and treasure chests.

All-Gerudo/All-NPC Species Party. May or not be evil.

Intertimeline crossover campaign. Zelda by way of Doctor Who.

Sailing the Great Sea. You're pirates, yarr.

>>20309044
Oh, they do indeed drain. My mistake.

Still, any drainage should be inaccessible or dangerous, because desert caravans are pretty zelda-esque. Like a freaking crazy rapids or a completely underground tunnel that's used by the zoras. Hell, why not have it partially going to a bunch of little Morphos creatures. The big boss one in OoT was a result of Ganon's sorcery or something, and the reason the water rose after you beat it was that it had stopped sucking up so much water.
>>
>>20309370
It was a creature made out of water. The water of the water temple is actively trying to kill you.
>>
>>20309414
Oh yeah, I was remembering the nucleus thing you looked at for most of the fight and thinking of is as an amoeba, but I guess it did start out as a plain pool of water until Link jumped in the middle.
>>
>>20306128
Take one Ancient Kingdom of Ikana. Add a pinch of Anasazi culture, human sacrifice, a teaspoon of Redead and Gibbos, and a smattering of H.P. Lovecraft's "the Outsider". Mix with Tomb of Horrors, serves at least four but as many PCs as it can chew through.

Exploring a tomb themed temple? Traumatizing monsters? Psychological horror, ending with a boss with uncomfortable implications?

Horror zelda is best zelda, because you can set the creatures chasing you on fire. (Not that it'll help.)

But really, I just want a Majora's Mask setting game. Mask-making festival craftwoman PC optional.
>>
>>20309497
postscript: I always thought the undead going about their "daily" routines with the whole barter system and greetings to be neat, if an annoying mechanic. Imagine what an underground "marketplace" would be like (strip mine native american/ancient egyptian/your society of choice for inspiration.)

Bartering for goods by our heroes? Sacks of dried beans/fish bones/ strings of tokens of Ikana currency for gold/jewels/artifacts?

Or...how do you get past a (mummified) guard that doesn't need to sleep, eat, or use eyes to see you?

Have the PCs play along with the masquerade of a dead civilization, in the underground tombs of the plateau of dead Ikana to get their prize. Or they could just kill everything and loot it.

Unfortunately, Termina is not a focus at the moment, and the setting isn't going to be horror (though it might be in specific places).
>>
>>20310224
Tea, you're documenting all the conversions for the dungeon to be put in the (or at least A) PDF right?
>>
>>20310296
Yeah. Dunno if we'll be able to distribute it because copyright, though.
>>
>>20310638
that'd have to be some pretty specific stuff if it was still copywrited after the conversion. Or are you talking about as a group and not chopped up?
>>
I actually DM'd an entire Hyrule campaign based on the OoT Map, and also have a sequel in the works where they find a portal to Termina Using some PDF I found through google, and some other website, all pretty balanced, fit right into 3.5 rules.
>>
>guards are moderately compitent.
> dungeons are reactive in nature. (IE the enemies will react to your presence much better)
>MM area is south of the Kokori forest
>rework the map to include everything from both TP and OoT
>>
>>20310726

I did this in my campaign too. It happened in ancient times, when the Arbiter's Grounds from TP was fully active, but there was a riot when they showed up. They also got unwillingly thrown into the portal to the twilight realm made from the Mirror of Twilight. Crazy shit.
>>
>>20310697
I am talking about as a whole. I dunno if copyright would actually apply, but as far as I know the OGL only covers the game mechanics and not the setting.

>>20310703
Interesting. Would you mind sharing what your players did/wanted to do? That could be useful to us.

>>20310726
Unless I'm mistaken, the only new areas in TP are the city in the sky and the snowy mountains. Are there any others I've forgotten?
Also that's a possible place to put Termina, but I'm not making any promises. If is is made, it'll be after Hyrule is done.
>>
Acid.

Better yet, dupe some players into thinking they are going to be running a shadowrun game, and then have them infected with acid and live in the World of Zelda.

Mindfuck them so hard that cum blows out the top of their head

Can you think of living in the World of Zelda while tripping on Acid? Fucking giant owls talking to you, believing you can breathe underwater because of a magic shirt, and watching monsters eat rocks?

Your looking for methods to better the Zelda Universe so as to make it viable for a campaign? In my current Zelda campaign ,I myself have found a few tricks to do so. Try to base your game a generation Before or after a game, so as to keep the timelines canon in place without the players having much potential to wreck it.

For instance, I'm running a Wind Waker game a generation after the game. The players comprise a party of skilled explorers hired by a large faction that seeks to expand outside of the known lands. This has so far allowed them to run into the familiar landscape of the canon, while giving the GM freedom to craft new Islands, dungeons and etc. It also has allowed me to include all sorts of races not so commonly found in WW.
>>
>>20314254
Just have the basic elements there. Monsters in an open world, treasure chests in dungeons you reach by going down a flight of stairs...
>>
i have a question though: would everyone be link? like 4 swords adventures but with a story?
>>
>>20316147
everyone is a hero, not necessarily Link as he's the avatar of Courage and wields an overpowered sword. But it would probably end up something like 4 swords
>>
So, poison. The current thought is that we want it to be a very tactical option. Thus, it's applied in doses about enough for one hit, and wears off after about an hour so people can't just apply it at camp in the morning and then go look for something to kill.
>>
>>20318613
the current effects for poison are damage to health/stam/mp, movement restriction and dice penalties
>>
The more powerful the poison, the harder it is to come by. It's more expensive, and the really good kinds might be restricted, needing government approval or black market contacts to get a hold of.

hmm, we hadn't thought of that. Care to spitball any notion as to why rules would be needed for it more than just Sage work?
>>
>>20307893
That's more or less canon.
Gerudo go outside in order to get impregnated. They search for worthy men.
>>
>>20331498
Is that why the one gerudo falls for young link basically? I always thought that was just creepy... nope, still creepy
>>
>>20331536
take all the emotion out of mate selection and it makes sense. you want strong offspring, use a strong mate. link was able to get through half a dungeon designed to kill people at 8 years old, that's really damn impressive, and just look at the shit he pulled off when he grew up
>>
What I always loved about Zelda was the lore.
Link, Zelda and Ganondorf as the trio destined to constantly fight in various incarnations, for example.
Or the sages.

I really fucking hated Twilight Princess because it didn't fit in with it all. It took me a while to realize that the sages in that game were the old ones that Ganondorf killed in the adult Link timeline (Though I'm still confused why the light guy doesn't appear to be the same), but even then there's a serious disregard of the past in the storyline. I really fucking hated that - No legends about the hero in green, except for that one line by that god thingy at the beginning? No talk of the triforce? And what the hell was up with the Shieka and that weird ghost town? And where in the fucking hell are the Kokiri? Shouldn't there at least be a nod to the Deku tree, aside from it being part of the scenery in that really fucking empty wasteland of a overworld?
>>
>>20331656
>And what the hell was up with the Shieka and that weird ghost town?

That was the original Kakariko Village, I think.

TP is like 1000 years after OoT's Child Timeline. The Hylian script in the 'ghost town' reads 'Old Kakariko Village,' and Impaz even talks about stuff going on. My assumption was always the Kokiri eventually were subsumed by the Lost Woods (just like how the Temple of Time and old Hyrule Castle Town was overgrown by the Lost Woods).

Thank god for Nintendo not giving a fuck about the storyline of their own game and just mirroring EVERYTHING!
That's one of the big dick moves of the Wii generation that convinced me that they are trying to tell coregamers to piss off. Same as with tripping in SSBB.
>>
>>20308766
Canonically, the great flood WAS a worldwide deal. How else could Link and Tetra sail way the fuck off west and found New Hyrule in the land of the Locomos?
>>
>>20308847
It's called a framework to run your own LoZ-style adventures, not recreate every exact detail of Hyrule down to how much an Ordon rancher makes for each quart of goat milk in Castle Town.

>>20309558
So everyone needs to find a Gibdos (or equivalent) Mask ala MM. I like it.
>>
>>20332396
The timeline is honestly an afterthought on their part, have you even READ the three-chunk timeline? It includes a timeline branch where Link dies in OoT. Besides, moving shit around isn't an implausible thing. Castle Town is destroyed and desecrated beyond redemption in OoT Adult Timeline, and as such, is abandoned; a new castle and town is built, allowing the land to reclaim the area where Ganon's Tower fell, which allows the Woods to overgrow. Kakariko, likewise, is abandoned; probably due to the remnants of crazy from Bongo-Bongo being there, and as such, becomes a 'ghost town' where only the Shiekah (Impaz) really go, and a new Kakariko is founded elsewhere.

Why is this such a big deal?
>>
>>20331656
>>20332396
>>20332473

And that's why we're not including an official timeline.
