Under the pale moonlight, you stare out over the edge of the island and to the Underworld below. That one village left an impression in you. Was that how it was in the Underworld? Places like that spread about, a world ruled by famine and destruction. "This world... how do they even survive." you shake your head, trying to put these 'heroic' thoughts into the darkness. "If someone could have made a difference, they would have already. Cycles aren't broken that easily." you stand there alone, leaning against the railing protecting you from falling over the side. You were on the farside of Vernegard on a midnight stroll, just trying to clear your head.

How were Beatrix, Sora and those other girls doing? It's only been a day, so they must be doing pretty well? Albert was there, so things shouldn't get out of hand. Then there's Brunstault, who's probably keeping Cadencia up with her blabber mouth. Adfor and his wife. So much to worry about and so little that could be done. That was only for this world. You had to think about your family, your sister and your home life.

"Do I really want to go back that badly? I was a nobody there. Just another person, here I can make a difference." then you realize that's what Clive was probably doing, but his own statements to you make that hypocritical... like you. "What do I do..."

"No use standing around here." you pull yourself up from the railing and stare at the moon one last time. "Lunarians. You're responsible for all of this, aren't you?" you clench your fist in anger. "Don't worry, you'll be seeing me soon enough." you turn away from the moon, from the balcony, and walk through the hollow streets of the kingdom of Vernegard. The cold night air, the lantern lights illuminating the dark streets. It had a feeling of nostalgia not even you could comprehend. It reminds you of those winter nights back home when you're walking home from your friends house. Or those nights during holloween... that's right, you weren't always like you were now. As time passed, people changed and moved on while you remained static. You went nowhere. But now, things have changed. Even though it's another world, it's still an oppurtunity to reassess yourself. "That's right, I'll make a difference here..."

"Oh, will you now?" a voice from the darnkess. Brunstealt walks over, her tail wagging and a grin on her face. "How's the soul searching, Hero?"

"Fine as ever, it's not something I need your help on, just so you know."

"Ah, I know you're capable of doing it on your own. I'm just a spectator, is all."

When they're not, then she won't be on our case like she is now.

"I have a question Brunstault." you make your way toward Cadencia's house, walking along the path you did to get to the far edge of Vernegard City. "Why are you so interested in me?" the question was honest. Why was she always haggling you?

"Ah, to be frank, you remind me of myself."

"What."

"Did I stutter? No, I don't believe so, Hero-chan." there was the return of the cursed honorifics.

"Back when I was an idiot, I mean. I know the mistakes you're going to make, what you're thinking right now and most of all, how you're going to end up." Brunstault's tail stops wagging. It simply droops down from ender her legs and her kimono. "It's rather complicated, but that's my reasoning. Albert and I have come across many Guardians, those who are kind, those who are arrogant and those who walk the middle line, but none are outright evil." Brunstault sounds as though she's holding something back. "You're different, however. You're down-to-Earth, inexperienced, stupid, reckless and most of all, a hypocrite." she chuckles, chastising you.

"Gghhh." you simply moan at her reasoning.

The two of you continue your walk to Cadencia's. Brunstault follows you from behind.

"So were you a hero at some point, or at least you tried to be a hero?" you push the subject further. However, Brunstault simply turns around, giving you a wry smile.

"Not quite, but prying is in bad taste, Hero." her voice was free from any vicous intent. No sarcasm, no bitterness, just the voice of a young girl.

It's best not to push the issue further. You've seen Brunstault angry, and you don't want to see her angry. However, she said she knows exactly what you're going through, and that you remind her of how she used to be. Was she afraid of loss? What happened? You can only imagine what she's went through. Wait, how old was she anyway? "Hey, Brunstault."

"Yes?" her talking like this was getting more awkward by the second. You almost miss her verbal assaults and banter.

"How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?"

"Older than you, does that satisfy your curiosity, Hero-chan?" she really loves using that term, even if it's miniscule. You simply nod. Come to think of it, how easy was she to anger? You look down to your hand where she bit you, look up to the sky and sigh. "Brunstault, I'd like to talk to you after I get done with Cadencia. Privately, alright?" Brunstault doesn't reply due to the fact she knew what was coming.

After a few minutes, you make it back to Cadencia's house. You open the door, which was unlocked, and look forward. There was Cadencia, sleeping on her desk with four or five different books opened up. There were five different pages filled from top to bottom with things written in the magical language. She was still at it...

This girl was really something else. Doing all of this for your sake, probably out of guilt. She had to stop this, but that could wait til morning. Wait, no, you had to think further on it. You wanted to go home, but if this meant it affects Cadencia's own health then you were starting to have second thoughts. You grab the girl and gradle her in your arms. You walk over to the bed, place her in and cover her up with the green blankets.

"You care for her, yes?" Brunstault was standing there at the front door, smiling.

"Guess so." you answer nonchalantly as you walk on over, out the door. The inside of Cadencia's house was pretty hot with the windows closed and all. You leave the door open to let some fresh air in, hopefully it let Cadencia sleep. Back home you used to sleep with the TV on in a cold, almost freezing room with the covers over you. Again, this night was one for nostalgia and it was getting the better of you. "Brunstault, you said you weren't a hero. What exactly were you?"

"Prying is in bad taste." Brunstault's eyes turn to slits. She repeats that same phrase.

"I'm just try-"

"Trying to help? Ah, those words are something I haven't heard in- well, I heard them earlier today." Brunstault's mouth moves into a devious smile. "If you're going to push this further, how about a little match, Hero-chan? I'll tell you everything you want to know, and if you lose, you tell me everything about yourself. That sounds fair, yes?" she's entirely confident she's going to tear you wide open...

"I wanted to talk, not fight-"

"So you're not worthy of the title of Guardian, is that what you're saying? Pathetic. Hahahahahah!" she laughs into the night, fangs showing. Anger boils down from deep within...

"Fine, it's a deal, but no killing. Or dismemberment. No pulling my organs, ripping off my face. I saw what you did to those guys down there." Brunstault smiles in response. The two of you move into the middle of the street, an equal space of five meters away from one another. This place had residence, so you couldn't use anything other than energy shields, acrobatics and sword techniques.

"I'm ready whenever you are." you say with a smile. You don't feel any fear, you can take her down if you try!

Brunstault says absolutely nothing. Her eyes shimmer a dead-red, her claws weren't out. She really didn't mean to kill you.

"Let's go, Brunstault!" you move forward, running as fast as you can with your longsword. Your target was in your sights, it was all a matter of movement. You swing your sword, attempting at a feint from Brunstault's open side.

"I always took a liking to naming attacks, Hero-chan." Brunstault finally moves. No, it wasn't so much as 'moving' as it was 'shifting'. There she was, right under you. "SCARLET-" she shoves her fist into your stomach. The speed, the strength of the punch. It leaves your entire body numb. You try using your bodies instincts to dodge it, but it's not enough. " ARROW-" she draws her fist back and pivots on one foot, showing you her rear.

You can't feel anything. You can hardly think, the world is slowing down yet Brunstault is the only thing moving. "KICK!" she performs a round-house kick, but stops her foot just about a centimeter away from your face. She lowers her foot, takes a step forward and places her pointer finger on your forehead. She simply pokes you, and you fall on over. The excruciating pain still courses through your entire body!

"Stay down, please." she says as she sits down on the ground, smiling.

No. This was it. The little girl called Brunstault Lorelai defeated you in one go with a simple move. She was stronger than you, stronger than most Guardians, probably. Clive was a match for you, but Brunstault was on a whole other level. This pain was a reminder of that. A human, a Guardian can't stand up to something like her. "Humans... never gained anything from standing down!" despite the pain, despite your head screaming NO, you still stand up. Against all common sense, against all logic in which you praise so much, you stand up. "Don't count me out yet, BRUNSTAULT!" you quickly get to your feet, a blue aura shifting around your body.

"Ah, so you're not done?" Brunstault performs a backward tumble, getting to her feet. She was faster than you, stronger than you, and on an entirely different level. Fighting her directly was only going to get you murdered. She could run in and finish you if she wanted. Your mind goes into over-drive trying to think of any openings, anything you could track.

"Are you fucking kidding me? LET'S DO THIS!"

In order to even come close to Brunstault, you dissipate all of your weaponry and form your gauntlets on each hand. Second, you flood your entire body with this innate magic of yours. You strengthen your bones, your muscles and even your skin. Your eyes go from a dull brown to an azure blue. Your white hair flares up. "Bring it on, you bitch!"

"Very well, Hero." Brunstault charges forward. She lunges forward, her hand out for another punch. She wasn't moving as fast this time but that by no means suggests she wasn't moving quickly. A split second, no, a nano-second. You move your arm forward as Brunstault's fist moves. You grip her hand, and throw her the same way Adfor threw you the first time you met him. "GO FLY!" Brunstault flies into the ground. She skips along the road, bouncing. One, two, three times. Each time she hits the ground, it cracks and spiders outward to touch each side of the road.

Bang. Bang. Bang.

The plan was already in your head. You had to keep up the offensive, keep Brunstault on her toes. Keep attacking until you can't even move! You launch yourself forward at a breakneck speed to meet Brunstault as soon as she gets up. You close the gap between the two of you in an instant. You throw your punch forward...

Brunstault immediately vanishes. She appears over head. She performs a front flip, then a corkcrew, then four more forward spins as she smashes your head with the heel of her foot. The speed, the power. She was holding back. With your numbed body, you couldn't move. You were going to fly straight into the ground, but no. Brunstault performs a backflip in mid air. She hits you in the stomach with a powerful kick, sending you volleying into the air. "SCARLET ARROW PUNCH!" she appears over you, her hand glowing a flaming red. One punch in the center of your stomach. Your sent, flying straight down to the city of Vernegard. If you hit the ground, you were going to explode upon impact. Blood was going to decorate the walls, windows and some doors. This city could use a little color, you thought. However, death never comes. Brunstault catches you in a bridal carry, eying you with disdain.

Thud.

She drops your numb body and your ass on the ground. She moves forward and sits down right on your stomach. As if the tormenting pain wasn't enough. "Stay or I'm actually going to try next time."

You hardly had the energy to speak, let alone get up.

Brunstault looks straight down at you while sitting on your stomach. While she does that, you flood your body with all of the magic energy you can muster. Slowly, the pain vanishes. She was holding back the entire time, and you really didn't want to know by how much. "Enjoy it while you can. Next time, I'll be the one carrying... you."

"That sounds like fun. Maybe I'll let you win next time?" she gives you a simple smile as she gets off of you. She does something terribly unexpected, and extends a hand to help you up. You take it, and she helps you to your feet. "Ah, right. You're an idiot, and a hypocrite." you knew this was coming. "I thought you said you'd change? Yet you didn't realize how powerless you were and you kept trying. Realize your limitations, you fool. Also, again, hypocrite." she repeats it.

"Guh... you're right, you're right, I'm sorry."

"Sorry is just a word, show me with action." Brunstault was really frustrated. "Now, you better get started with telling me about yourself." Brunstault finds a bench near Cadencia's house and takes a seat. You walk on over... as soon as you move, your entire body screams out in pain. It was STILL sore even after 'healing' it to the best of your abilities.

that should be the reason why keeping this up, actually, but I guess >>20319703 is right.

It's limited and scrambled so may as well divulge what we have.
>>
>>20319834
That's because you're an idiot who can't handle having someone point it out and be better than you.

>>20319797
Yeah, she can't deny that we fought in what was obviously a one-sided fight. Instead of thinking, you let your pride keep you fighting until you were about to die.

Is flying psychoanalisys monday? let's avoid things like this, please
>>
>>20319919
People are under the mistaken impression that our resistance and one single throw in any way made a good impression on Brunstault. Everything she's said and done shows that she does not think we made the right decision to keep fighting.

"Tell you about myself." you sit down on the bench, recalling what you could of your past. "Growing up, I wasn't always a loner. I had some friends back in elementary school." the words flow out of your mouth. Perhaps you recovered more memories than you expected? "Their names escape me, probably because I can't remember them." or not. You sigh in self-derision. "I had a loving mother and father, I had two younger sisters I had to take care of. My older brother Mark always worked, helped my parents out. I can hardly recall my mother's name, or my father's. I know my two sisters, though, probably because they had a big impact one me. Candice and Sophie Irving."

"I thought you said you couldn't remember your name?" Brunstault leans forward, her elbows on her knees. She seems truly interested, which is once again a shock due to the norm.

"Irving is my last name. Huh... anyway, that doesn't matter. As I grew up, I never really interacted with people outside of my family. I stayed in my room, did whatever I wanted to. I probably thought growing up sucks." you scratch your head, trying to find a way to continue your story. "I guess... I was afraid of getting hurt."

Brunstault doesn't answer, she just stares off into space.

>"Are you listening?"

>"You said we're alike and I guess you're right..."
Let's see if we can get anything out of her right now.
>>
>>20319984
So you're suggesting that surrender before overcoming difficulties is the right thing to do?
or to accept fate as it comes, swimming with the
flow like a dead fish?
(I don't want to derail the thread, will not reply on this topic further)
>>
>>20320148
No, I am suggesting that we have a realistic appraisal of our abilities in relation to that of our foe's, and be able to judge when we can fight, and when we shouldn't.

You do realize we can't be reckless anymore, because our life is tied to Candencia, right?
If we die, she dies.

"You said we're alike and I guess you're right..." you hate to admit it, but if she was anything like you were in her youth, then that explains why she hounds you so much. Looking at ones past self can be infuriating, at least you think so. When you look back on your past self, however, you feel nothing but envy for your former self. "Tch... anyway that's pretty much my life, excluding other details of my world. Anything else you want to know? ... Are you listening?"

"I am. You're an idiot. To tell you the truth, I want to do you the favor of killing you right now... but you know what?" her smile is the same as Cadencia. One which hides a heavy burden behind it. "I can't do that, excluding hurting that girl, Cadencia." the fox brings her legs up onto the bench before hiding her face between her knees. "Dammit." you can't see her face. "Dammit all." she was... crying? "You're going to keep lying to yourself... you're going to play hero and end up getting yourself killed." she lifts her head up, tears streaming down her face. "You asshole!" she wasn't crying for you, it was someone else, in her past. Old wounds were reopened.

>"I won't, I promise you that."
>"You're probably right."
>What to do?
>>
>>20320337

"You're probably right."
>>
>>20320337
>"I won't, I promise you that."
"I've got no intention of dying. That's why I've got you and Candencia, isn't it? And besides, if I die, that'll prove that smug bastard Clive right, and I'll gnaw my own leg off before I give him the satisfaction."
>>
>>20320383

This.
>>
>>20320337
You're probably right, but hey at least I'll die a hero, However, I don't intend to die for a long time.

"You're probably right, but the thing is I've got NO intention of dying. That's why I've got you and Cadencia, isn't it? And besides, if I die, that'll prove that smug bastard Clive right, and I'll gnaw my own leg off before I give him the satisfaction." you say so as a matter of fact. You stand up from the bench, look up into the sky and face the moon with a smile. Brunstault stands up from the bench and stares at the moon. "And when I do kick it, better stick up with me if you want to say "Told!" when it happens."

"Irving." she takes your hand in her own. "I'll make you a promise."

"What kind of promise?"

"That I'll kill you before anyone else gets a chance. And brutally, too, so that means that no one has the right to kill you but me." Brunstault says so, before frowning. "That sounded MUCH better in my head, and not so cliche..." she mumbles to herself. It was almost cute the way she can't show her emotions. That didn't apply to you, however.

>"H-how about no?"
>"Alright, makes sense."
>What to do?
>>
>>20320556

H-hey, that's alright... You got the message trough.
>>
>>20320556
"Alright, makes sense." nod significatively.
>>
alright, makes sence X
>>
>>20320556
Alright, makes sense. I also make the same promise. I'll be the one to kill you.
>>
>>20320556
"How about no?"
"I mean, I understand what you meant, and I agree, but it just feels like baiting Fate the way you said it. My memory may be a mess, but I can still spot a trope when I see one."
>>
Hey, what are you guys saying on irc?

"Alright, makes sense." you agree to it, but raise your finger in front of Brunstault's face. "I'll also make the same promise. I'll be the one to kill you."

Brunstault laughs at the thought, but settles down and locks her eyes with yours. "I look forward to it, Hero. I look forward to it." she smiles again. Something is yelling at you from the depths of your soul, but you ignore it flat out. Now wasn't the time to be worrying. You sit down on the bench once again, Brunstault follows suit.

The two of you don't say another word. You just stare into the sky, counting the stars and watching the moon.

"Soon... soon I'll meet you there." you whisper a wish into the darkness. "And I'll make you pay."

Hey OP, maybe its not the case, but what about making a document with our status, with equipment, skills etc? I didn't remember about the "power up" seen today, for example.

Name: Anon Irving
Age: 17~19
Weapons:
-Zweihander
-Gauntlets
-Longsword
-Assault Rifle (can materialize attachments)
Guardian Skills:
-Self-Buff/Self-Heal: Accomplished by flooding the body with magical power. Can keep flooding the body past its limits, probably resulting in permnanent injury.
-Battle Instinct: Allows the body to react to things that would normally be impossible for the human body to comprehend.
-Super-Strength: Strength beyond that of a normal humans capabilities.
-Super-Speed: Can move faster than the normal eye can see.
-Materialization: Anon's unique Guardian power. It allows him to project things that he can create in his mind, and that he, himself, understands. Simple weaponry like swords, hammers, maces, etc. are the ideal for this ability. However, Anon materialized an assault rifle due to the fact the power was at its peak when it was 'absorbed'. Now that the power is mostly used up, its only possible to manipulate the left over energy into other attacks and more simplistic Materialization.
-Language Barrier: Thanks to the knowledge of the previous two 'summoned' Guardians left by the mysterious blue energy, Anon is able to read in the past languages of both Guardians.
-Energy Manipulation: Like all Guardians, Anon has the ability to summon up energy for projectile attacks, projected barriers and other means of attack and defending.

Really found it fun.
Still can't wait to play again.
Are you planning to make this a daily quest? Or is that just how it's working out for now?
>>
>>20322090

I'll do it daily, or I'll try to. When college creeps around the corner, the time will change from 12 to most likely 4 in the afternoon.
