Hello once again /tg/! It's time for part two of the Civilization Game. When we left off last time, everything was going pretty swimmingly, when one of your children, while climbing a tree, spotted a thin stream of smoke off in the distance, downstream, between you and the pines.

On a technical note, I need to make a mention of two things. First, I have a new mapping software called Hexographer, so that'll help me keep track of environments and later provide battle maps, if and when the tribe goes to war. Secondly, I VASTLY under-estimated just how far a human being can travel in a day. Given the numbers as I now understand them, I have modified how far certain landmarks and resources are from your settlement.

Is everyone ready to begin? Have fun and play smart!

Keeping this on the front page while people realise it's actually up... I shouldn't have left a three-day gap between the threads.
>>
Before I forget, the previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20277173/

If no-body responds by 5:30 Eastern Standard Time, I'm closing the thread. I'm willing to keep this going. I had people requesting that this game go on a while and I'm prepared to go as long as it's wanted. Of course, if no-one responds, I can'd run the game.
>>
Don't go OP!
>>
A, downstream towards the smoke.
>>
A response! Anon, you have no idea how much I love you right now (no homo).

Now I actually see a player, let's wait for the rest. I wish people would listen when I say 4:30 EST on Tuesday though.
>>
Civ Quest is back! SQUEE!

We should probably send some scouts to look into the source of the smoke. Option A, I CHOOSE YOU!
>>
>>20319765
Players never seem to be on time. At least, not when I'm DMing. Get no respect.

>>20319781
God, tell me about it. But! This isn't Bitch-about-players Quest! This is Civilization Quest! Hopefully, more folks will show up as we play.

God DAYM it's the civ game! I was so heartbroken when the last one died away! You're a hero Britfag for keeping this up!

But anyway, seconding this >>20319738
>>
Your scouts set off downstream, periodically climbing trees to gain an impression of the smoke's direction. Soon, they reach the spot and it's hard to say who is more surprised; the scouts, or the village they stumble into! The people there look much like you, but speak a strange language your scouts cannot make any sense of. Although not hostile, the strangers did not do anything in particular to make your scouts welcome and your men left the same day, hurrying back to the tribe, to report the strange discovery.

The news that you are not alone in the world has sparked a great deal of discussion among your people. Some are overjoyed, others council caution; after all, what more dangerous predator is there than another human?

Aww, thanks anon! That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Keep in mind, this is NOT the original game. In order to attract new players, I elected to start over from scratch. Besides, I had none of the old notes and this gives me an excuse to use my mapping software.
>>
>>20319979
Lets go collect some clay. I want to upgrade our homes to brick buildings and maybe work on making a wall.
>>
>>20319979
We may want to ally with this other group, although this won't happen overnight. I propose we get our wise ones researching agriculture in some fashion, that we may produce a surplus of food. This would ward off starvation, allow us an excess of supplies for further experimentation, and give us something to trade with. E all the way.

Im game!. I also plump for Option A ,

Is it possible to send them well armed (Flint Knives , the best archer in our clan , etc) , and with a couple of small gifts? Nothing fancy , perhaps a few bone trinkets.

Sorry I'm late OP :)

I support option B

Hmm I'd say E) try to research some sort of rafts or punts for easier fishing and maybe for exploration in the future.Even though with just spears one can only fish from shallow places the punts/rafts should open more places to fish from.

There's too many disparate options this time around. When there's this many differing opinions, I can't just roll for it. Until a majority consensus can be achieved, the next turn won't take place.

Your wise ones have little to work with, however they believe that it may be possible to tame the fruits of the wild. Your people have ever moved from place to place, never stopping to observe the way plants grow. Seeing seedlings from last year sprouting now however has given your wise one's the idea. Sadly, they cannot test or act upon this thought without seeds to plant!

>>20320343
Your scouts have already located flowering fruit trees and a bramble patch earlier this year. Further 'east' is currently subjective, until you research a way to navigate; previously, all your people did was follow the herds.

>>20320378
You live in a forest, so basic timber is easily available. Downstream, there is a stand of tall trees that would make for exceptional timber.

>>20320426
Oh, in that case gather fruits and berries, improves our food and the discarded cores/seeds will give our elders something to work with.

rolled 5 = 5

From what I can count, the votes are split between a trip to the fruit trees for fruit and seeds, or researching rafts and primative boats. It's rolling time!

1-3 Fruit gathering
4-6 Boat research
>>
The trees around us seem sturdy enough. We could probably finagle some sort of shelter out of them.
E- Research log cabins or something along those lines.
>>
rolled 1 = 1

>>20320515
Your tribe council debates sending a group of scouts out to gather fruit from the trees and bushes nearby, but eventually agree that it is still too early in the year for such things. Instead, they focus on a thought one of the tribe had, while watching sticks and leaves float down the river. After some experimentation and a lot of unplanned baths, your tribe manages to assemble some rudimentry rafts! Your people are already talking about using them to fish with and how much easier they will make travel up and downriver, when pushed by long poles.

God, one action a turn is so limiting. Can we have a cultural event and say its a festival for the fertility god? Need some babies up in this bitch.

Actually, we probably want to get an excess of food first, and I want to upgrade our huts to something more... well, not a hut. Lets go collect some clay, which we can use to make bricks, and then collect some timber, to use for roofs, and then research firing clay bricks, and building houses... we'll probably need more food at some point during this, so it might be beneficial to get agriculture first.

Anyway, lets go get some fruits and seeds and berries. If they haven't ripened by the fall then they're not worth it.

To celebrate the bumper fish harvest, your tribe holds a celebration, eating and partying well into the night. Everyone forgets their worries for a few days to just kick back, relax and (given the tribe's urging) make some babies.

As winter seems to be getting closer I feel we should look into researching some better protected houses. Either out of wood (if the local wood can be used instead of tall logs / use rafts to faster get tall wood down the stream?) or out of clay(bricks).

Maybe stocking up on firewood?

So i guess
D) gathering firewood (or wood/clay for research)

E) researching clay / wood huts

E- Research buildings made out of something other than hide. Perhaps we could dig some pits in the ground with log walls around the edges(with gaps for doorways). The roofs could be made from timber, bark, and hide, and the walls could be reinforced with the dirt from the pits.
>>
It should be noted that, in the interests of balance, you could still have gathered fruit even until the last month of fall. Too late for that now though. Votes tallied. Preparing turn report.
>>
Your wise ones consider the tents your people currently live in to be insuficient, especially with winter closing. After a long debate, they set to work and eventually have a plan to present to the village. Pits are dug into the earth and wood used to form frames, over which are hung hides, tree branches and dried leaves. The new house is warmer and less drafty than the tents, although great care has to be taken to keep the interior clean.

Dealing with random events does not consume action points, no. Sometimes, your actions may trigger a random event however, or how you deal with an event may lead to a 'Quest Chain' that can lead to great rewards! ...Or great disaster.
>>
Your tribe banks the fires high and sets a watch around the village, your hunters armed with sharp, flint-tipped spears. No-one likes being out in the cold, especially at night, when the howls keep getting closer and closer. Your watchers swear that they can see heartless, yellow eyes watching them from the treeline, just outside the firelight-! The rest of the village is cheered by their efforts however, sleeping sounder for it and the huge fires that all wolves fear.

One of your watchers also reports seeing one wolf, larger than the rest and with a pure white coat. He claims it was looking at him directly, like it was daring him to step beyond the fires.

Overall, there are no ill effects, but your watchers are nervous.

Re-commencing votes for turn's action. Vote for gathering clay has already been coutned. Remember; I will not be hand-holding. Risky actions can result in Game Over.
>>
To deal with the wolves, we should post a watch around the village.

As for our action this turn, I'm in favour of going hunting, as to bulk up our supply of hides.
>>
So, my guess is if we send people out to gather resources or anything they'll be attacked by wolves. We need a solution. Send out hunters to look for wolf dens and smaller packs and take them out, but make sure they're back at the village by nightfall.
>>
>>20321390
Thanks for the info! Loving this here so far.

As for our action.
I suggest either
E) researching nets / fish traps (nets first probably)
G) building a storage hut for food / supplies

>testing trips
>>
Its simpl , we kill the batman....I mean , that white wolf that looks like the alpha.
>>
Please keep to only one option when posting actions, as it makes it easier to tally the votes.

So far, there are four different options in the offing. Until there is a majority on one option, or the number of equal-vote options is three or less, I will not be moving to a new turn.
>>
If memory serves, our scouts found a wolf den earlier in the year. We could send a party out to harass smaller packs of wolves, ultimately pinning the wolves down in their cave and smoking them out(and right into a gauntlet of pit traps, spearmen, and archers). Still, it would be risky. If the wolves get the better of our hunters, we are fucked harder than a Japanese schoolgirl at a bukkake festival.
>>
>>20321541
Sorry, will stick to one option in the future.

>>20321553
I half agree with this. We may have to curb this threat before it gets any larger, but it doesn't feel like we would be ready for that yet and we would also have to leave the village rather unprotected.
So I change my vote to
H) Have every able bodied man and woman train hunting / fighting in preperation of dealing with the wolves.
>>
D - We could chop down some trees. Trees that could later be turned into a palisade for keeping out dem wolves.
>>
Majority registered: Hunt the wolves.

Your hunters ready their spears, having had enough of sleepless nights and yellow-eyed terrors. Leaving the village in larget groups and taking fire with them, they set out for the wolf den, with the aim of ambushing small packs and killing them.

RANDOM EVENT
While hunting the wolf packs, your hunters have some success! A small pack is found and torn apart, only one survivor fleeing. On their way back to the village for fresh supplies however, your hunters are surrounded one night! The howling rouses them from their sleep and in the forest all around are the glinting, yellow eyes.

What draws the attention most however, is the great, white wolf, prowling in a wide circle aroudn the camp, seemingly unafraid of the roaring campfire.

The wolves have not attacked yet, not even the white one. Instead, they simply stand there, keeping the hunters fenced in.
What do the hunters do?
A) Attack the white wolf and try to kill it
B) Take torches from the fire and try to force a way through the ring, using the flames to keep the wolves back

We could go for a 1-to-1 duel with the wolf, but that would probably just end badly. I was thinking have a third of our hunting party deal with the alpha, and the other two thirds fend off the rest of the pack. Only the alpha is unafraid of fire.
>>

>>
It's agreed! Your hunters tighten their grip on their spears, grabbing torches and readying to fight the alpha wolf. Your bravest hunter steps forward first, jabbing at the huge creature. It jumps to one side, but a line of red blood is scorred down one flank. The beast looks at the wound for a moment, astonished, then resumes its stalking, seemingly unconcerned. The hunter lunges again, but this time, the wolf leaps to one side, dodging the blow... Your other hunters ready to join in, but as they move, the pack starts to close in. As the hunters freeze in worry, so to the wolves. Your bravest, it seems, is going to have to face the huge wolf alone.

DUEL
Duels will be decided via a rock-paper-scissors sytem.
A ferocious ATTACK beats a readied DEFENCE, dealing light damage.
A powerful SPECIAL will defeat and ATTACK'S raw power, dealing heavy damage.
A readied DEFENCE will deflect a SPECIAL, dealing moderate damage.
Two ATTACKS will result in a stand-off. At the moment, the odds are 50/50 that your hunter will win and deal MODERATE damage
Two SPECIALS will result in both parties taking moderate damage.
Two DEFENCES will result in a stand-off and neither party will take damage.

Watch your opponent's mannerisms and try to predict his moves!

The White Wolf slinks low to the ground, growling slightly. It seems to respect the spear's long reach and is unwilling to attack. It's like it's waiting for something...

Oh, shit.

Defence. If it lunges at us, we dodge it, and shank the fuck out of it as its back is turned.

This started playing in my head for the battle.

Does no one here know how to fucking read?
>It seems to respect the spear's long reach and is unwilling to attack. It's like it's waiting for something...

This is called a hint, the wolf is obviously DEFENDING. If we also defend, it's just a useless standoff. A special would deal US damage, so we should attack. Attacking does light damage to defending. FUCKING READ THE GM's POST

The hunter raises his spear defensively, carefully making small jabs to warn the besat off. The White Wolf keeps its distance too, not taking the bait.

STANDOFF
WHITE WOLF 30HP
HUNTER 30HP

The White Wolf looks like it is starting to get frustrated. It paws at the ground, its teeth curling back in a snarl as its ears go flat. Its yellow gaze seems to bore into the brave hunter's head.

Use SPECIAL, and hope that it's Super Effective.
>>
SPECIAL sounds like he's pissed and will attack us
>>
>>20322114
I'm almost tempted to give you bonus damage for awesome taste in music, but not quite. You are however, cool enough to learn that once the tribe has some instruments, I'll sometimes try to find musical pieces (mostly stolen from video games, admittedly).

I agree, SPECIAL

SPECIAL this nigga gonna attack

The White Wolf lunges, its fangs bared as it goes for the hunter's throat. The hunter drops low however, ducking under the lunging beast. He draws his flint knife and pushes up with all his strength. There's a heavy shock and the momentum of the beast lets him throw it over him, the knife punching into its ribcage. The White Wolf scrambles up as soon as it hits the ground, growling and bleeding heavily

WHITE WOLF 24HP
HUNTER 30HP

The White Wolf snarls, its fur bristling as it starts to pace again, its teeth bared and a look of naked agression in its eyes. If any animal is capable of emotion, this one is and right now, it was clear all it felt was hate.

DEFENCE he mad

>>20322387
Follow up with a normal ATTACK. We don't want to exhaust ourselves fighting the alpha, rendering ourselves too tired to help our comrades fend off the rest of the pack after the alpha is dealt with.
>>
>>20322423
Actually, I change my mind. DEFEND.
>>
Defence, plz

The White Wolf's pace picks up, seemingly unconcerned by the wound, it circles faster and faster, before rapidly changing its direction, faster than any human could, lunging in low. The beast looks rather shocked when it has to rapidly jink again, to avoid the spear thrust leveled at its eye! The White Wolf manages to escape death, but not injury, the cunning defence tearing one of its ears badly.

WHITE WOLF 20HP
HUNTER 30HP

Falling back hasily, the White Wolf goes low, its ears still back as it bares its claws. It looks like its holding back, like a branch bend back on itself, ready to be released.

Gah I forgot that this was going on today until just a little while ago. I was in the last one. I've been reading the thread and face palming as I go (some people are just retarded.) Naming for clarity.

The White Wolf suddenly sees its chance and lunges forward, its maw open as it charges. So great is its speed that it slips by the hunter's readied guard, smashing him to the floor. The hutner manages to get his spear between himself and the White Wolf, pushing the creature off and scrambling to his feet, but the White Wolf's claws were as sharp as flints, digging bloody scratches in his chest. Almost like they're cheering, the wolves howl suddenly, whereas they stood in relative silence while the White Wolf was getting the worse of it.

ADVANTAGE WHITE WOLF
WHITE WOLF 20HP
HUNTER 27HP

The White Wolf starts to prowl again, circling the hunter over and over, its hackles raised. The strangest part is the glimmer of inteligence behind its yellow eyes. It's like it recognises the spear now... Its teeth and claws are still bared, but it looks like a savage, thoughtless attack is maybe less likely...

The intelligence behind its eyes may mean that it's trying to lure us into an attack or feigning that it won't attack, when actually it will. Not rolling for this, I'm too scared.
>>
What's that? 'Special', you all say? Well alright! Heh. They're fun to write. Defence it is them.

The White Wolf Dashes in, this time pulling up short. To the hunter's astonishment, the Wolf lunges for the spear, its jaws snapping for the shaft of the weapon! It's hard to bite a darting spear however and the White Wolf gets a nasty cut for its trouble.

ADVANTAGE HUNTER
WHITE WOLF 16HP
HUNTER 27 HP

The White Wolf back up, until it stands just outside spear range, crouched low and unmoving, its eyes watching the hunter warily...

Then jaws drop on everyone on two legs as the White Wolf speaks. Its words are snarled and gutteral, but it's definitely words! "Killed wolf pack. You pack not welcome. You pack leave or wolf pack kills. Not room for two hunting packs. You have long fang. Sharp fang. You strange but strong. Go. Wolf pack not hunt you. Or stay and wolf pack kill."
>>
Aaand because it's now nearly half past two in the morning, here in England, we'll leave it there today.

The next session is on THURSDAY at 16:30 EASTERN STANDARD TIME, SHARP. The earlier we start, the more stuff you can do.

Just to make sure, the next session is at 16:30 EASTERN STANDARD TIME, on THURSDAY. Now you have no excuses, if you're late.

I hope you all enjoyed today and the cliffhanger I'm leaving you on! I'll archive this on sup/tg/ and post the link on the next thread.

Intelligence + speech = potential for deception.

Not sure if should GTFO or ensure wolf pack never hunt again.
>>
Thanks a lot, OP!

I'll be sure not to miss it next time
