Morale is but a memory, but the Adventures of Elesh Phryx continue!
>>
You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and captain of the Sword-class frigate 'Sword of the Omnissiah'. During the last hours of your journey back to known space, your ship suffered an outbreak of some form of warp madness. Thousands perished as the infected fell upon their former friends and spread the plague like fire, consuming your passengers, crew, and armsmen. Only the quick response of your armsmen and your decision to seal the massive bulkheads of the ship managed to contain the cancer, even though some of your sane crew were trapped as well. Upon your ship's return to reality, your crew found that their infected brothers and sisters had literally torn eachother apart.

With your ship half-crewed and the stench of death permeating the hearts and minds of those aboard, your astropaths called to Serentus and the Order Hospitaller for assistance. In less than a day, a pair of Vagabond-class Merchant Traders arrived, carrying a familiar voice. "Captain Phryx, we've come to render assistance." Ris? You are quite certain Quein planned to deliver the merchant woman to Serentus.

>cont
>>
"I did not expect to encounter in such a way, Ris."

"A woman has to provide for her family, Captain. The Seriam Dynasty was kind enough to transport me to this system, though my trading mission has been delayed to assist your crew." Strange, you'd expect such an event to cause a hint of... anger? frustration? "If you'll excuse me, the Captain wishes to speak with you."

"Captain Phryx? This is Captain Kusve of the Seriam Dynasty, Canoness Irene seems to favor you quite strongly. Might I ask what causes your distress?"

"We've warp madness in a decent portion of the crew and at this time I'm wholly uncertain of the damage. External assistance would be most appreciated"
>>
>>20322062
Warp madness, a large percentage of the crew died and an unknown amount of damage has been caused to the ship's systems. I did not think it prudent to attempt warp travel at the while undercrewed and with the ship's current condition.
>>
>>20322108
>>20322128

Captain Kusve goes silent as you explain how the warp madness spread within the ship. "My... my apologies, Captain Phryx. On behalf of the Seriam Dynasty, I offer any assistance within my limited power to grant. Though you do answer the question of why servitors and Hospitallers were quickly embarked upon my ships is answered. We'll take your crew aboard and allow our passengers to conduct their business within... four hours. Emperor give you Strength."

>embark your crew upon the Seriam transports during cleanup?

Sounds reasonable. Let our crew get some rest, and see if we can't get something proper to eat for everybody.

Captain's dinner with Athe, Ris, and Kusve?
>>
>>20322396
embark your crew upon the Seriam transports during cleanup?

Get people off of here, especially the sick, wounded and the ones who suffered the most from the attacks so they can recover while others scrub this place clean.
>>
>>20322396
Sounds good. While we may know better than to feel silly superstition about the unfortunate incident, if it'll help morale to give them respite aboard another ship for a while then by all means.

In short order your crew is slowly transferred to one of the transports, 'Faith of the Pilgrim'. Though some are loathe to part with their clothing, the sisters quickly have them stripped down for decontamination with fear of the plague returning from tainted clothing. Servitors and techpriests within sealed armors have already begun investigating the tainted sections of your ship, some quietly offering prayers to the ship's machine spirit for the suffering within it's hull. For a moment, you remember the xeno tech recovered from Aquari and the genestealer corpses taken from 'Righteous Flame', but Athe simply smiles and informs you she'd had them secured in stasis back in your hidden system. At that moment, your flesh brain fills with a desire to tear off your XO's garments and thank her for such foresight, though your cogitators simply scoff and note that you are both moments from being stripped and decontaminated by a small army of hospitallers and servitors.

Clad in pilgrim robes and quite awake after your interesting experience at the hands of a rather friendly servitor, you find yourself and Athe being lead toward the ship's bridge to share a meal with Captain Kusve and the merchant Ris.

>Anything specific to ask for or speak about during the meal?
>>
>>20322898
Hrm... Oh! See if Ris has any connections with that RT family that we wanted to talk to about getting together with and re-grouping all the pirates to retake Tortuga.
>>
>>20322898
Ask about the current situation of the intrusion in Tortuga.
>>
>>20323067

To the best of your knowledge, neither the Seriam Dynasty nor Ris knew of Tortuga's existence save for rumors of a pirate base.

Do you wish to ask this question still?
>>
>>20322898
Well, what's happened the past.. 6, or so months?
>>
>>20323104
In that case, see if they know of any chaos intrusions in the sector.

See if they want anything in return for aiding us.
>>
>>20323182

i second this course of action.
also, if asked why we ask, tell them that our mining ship spotted several chaos ships in combat with imperial navel vessels, and that we were concerned if the chaos fleet was larger than that one skirmish...

The meal before you is wonderfully comforting to your weak flesh. Simple, hearty, filling. The wine even helps to calm those present after you begin eating before prayer is offered to the Emperor.

"I apologize, Captain Phryx. I'd not realized that you likely hadn't eaten since the incident." Captain Kusve smiles from behind the scarred remains of his nose and left cheek.

You fumble for a moment before Athe preempts your likely clumsy response. "No, Captain. It is we that should apologize. Captain Phryx's devotion to the Omnissiah often causes her to overlook the traditional prayers to the Emperor we share." The man's eyebrow raises before Athe continues, "And she has a particular loathing of the nutrient paste we've been forced to consume for nearly six months." The Captain breaks into a hearty laughter as Ris politely smiles.

"During my years as a missionary I acquired a similar dislike for the blessed nutrient paste. It is good to hear that not all techpriests have lost their humanity!"

The Captain gladly shares a few choice tales of his adventures with you, recounting his battle with the kroot that forever marred his face in glorious detail. He and Athe soon begin comparing the differences between their Schola instructors, leaving you and Ris discuss her relationship with the Seriam Dynasty.

"I'd managed to acquire enough funds to perhaps persuade the mining facilities of this system to part with a larger count of metals, and requested to accompany the next convoy. Magos Grumman supplied me with additional funds and diverted this pair when he heard of my plan. Serentus truly does struggle to provide enough resources to repair the growing number of damaged Navy warships. I fear dark times are coming."

"Have there been any major battles in the past six months? Last I was aware, the renegades had been rebuffed at Serentus and Saregin's Path."

"There have only been skirmishes, but the raids upon supply convoys grow more frequent each month. They say the navy has additional ships... but only a few have been spotted. And there are other... whispers. That the pirates of the sector were full of rot. A Captain was tortured to death by the sisters and most of his crew purged... 'Death or Glory'."

Your flesh brain flinches as you recall the rookie captain that Magos Banks had sent to aid in your last raid. He had promise, even Athe had seen it.

"They say he arrived with his ship full of refugees from the pirate system... and that they were crushed during a renegade attack."

Another hour of lite conversation passes before you ask the question computed thousands of times by your cogitators. "Captain Kusve, how might I repay your kindness?"

"There is no need, Captain Phryx. My masters are indebted to Serentus, and Serentus called upon us to undertake this mission. If you'd like, we could take you to a nearby system if you must conduct business and your crew could meet you there."

"I feel that I should remain with my crew. It would not be proper for their Captain to depart."

"I understand, Captain Phryx. I apologize, but I've limited quartering for passengers of your standing. I hope your officers do not mind sharing quarters?"

"We shall make due, Captain."

For the next week the hospitallers and crew of 'Faith of the Pilgrim' provide for your crew's broken spirit. Though it seems that yours and Athe's attempts to provide for your own spirits are frequently interrupted like clockwork by the quirky Doctor Noble. Sharing quarters with Athe and a male fleshbag is frustrating. The Omnissiah smiles upon you, however, for Doctor Noble practically vanishes on the third day of your stay upon the transport. A shame that both yourself and Athe were too busy assisting in maintenance of the servitors purging your ship of taint.

By the Omnissiah's grace, your crew is quick to reunite with their home after Grumman's servitors have done their cleansing. The air no longer smells of death and decay, instead carrying a minor hint of sanctified oils and chemicals. Your crew does not seem to mind at all, their morale surging back after the kindness shown to them; you're fairly sure there are several children in the future of your ship or the order Hospitaller, though Athe simply laughs at your musing. "Just because you're a sex addict doesn't mean normal people are, Elesh."

"Hmph! The wrench calling the hammer a tool" cries your flesh brain, crossing your arms and giving your... 'No! We are not having this debate right now!' roar your cogitators. Regardless of what you call her, Athe's attention was quickly drawn slightly down by the lifting action. "Perhaps you should save such displays for later, Elesh. We've a ship to get prepared for a warp jump." With that cheeky grin and a blown kiss, Athe heads off to likely hustle the crew along.

Soon your ship reaches the edge of Galia's Respite, her reactors surging beyond combat output as your warp engines tear open a rift beyond the protection of your ship's gellar field. Omnissiah be kind.

It doesn't take long to track down Bob and Julin, the women... woman and xeno. Your cogitators interrupt your thoughts to chastise themselves for seeing Bob as a woman instead of her true xeno self. Even if she has lessened her superiority complex, she is still a xeno. Remember that. You're not some radical techpriest, your view of the Quest for Knowledge is just... more objective than the majority of your peers. But doesn't that mean that Bob is a woman? No! She's a female of a different species! Woeldar? Shut up, cogitator six. You are in need of recalibration! Cease your corrupt exploration fantasies with the flesh brain!

Omnissiah, that was odd. Julin and Bob are overseeing the reorganization of the barracks, planning several major changes to bunk and gear locations for the future. Of course, Bob's xenos senses note your approach long before you actually reach the pair. "Captain?"

"I simply wanted to thank you both for your quick reactions. Many were saved."

Bob simply shrugs, though Julin obviously forces a smile for your sake. "Thank you, Captain. It... means a lot to me."

For a moment, you wonder if Bob will ever speak more than a simple phrase in Gothic. Perhaps she has a limited vocabulary? No, she understands most of what is said. She must simply choose not to speak. "Bob, who would you recommend learns your xeno tongue?"

"My tongue? Why would you wish to learn about my tongue?" The graceful xeno stares at you suspiciously, eying your mechadendrites as if they were preparing to strike. "My people's language, not my actual tongue. Correct?"

Julin visibly struggles to contain a burst of laughter, eying Bob and quietly muttering something to herself.

"Yes, your people's language. Though I could study your tongue as well for knowledge, if you'd allow."

"I rather prefer it where and how it is now. I believe yourself or Athe would be best suited to learn, then be able to assist others if it is needed. Julin would also learn quickly, though her ability to teach language beyond a few choice expletives may be limited." Your Master-at-Arms and xeno ranger exchange a friendly, you hope, glance.

"Good, prepare the armsmen for travel. We head for Serentus and real food immediately."

In short order your ship once again braves the perils of the warp, heading toward Serentus and the promise of more real food. Nearly giddy at the thought of never eating nutrient paste again, you return to your quarters. Athe, a bottle of booze and two glasses await you. A blessed welcome back to your home.

In short order you expect to have the place a proper mess, garments strewn wildly about as you playfully battle Athe for dominance and the right to ravish the other first! A soft chime. The door. "If it is the doctor, I'm shooting him in the leg" grumbles Athe.

Instead, it is Bob. "If you wish to learn, we begin now. With the two of you sharing quarters, it is best to teach you together."

"Teach?"

You awake to the sound and feel of Athe's breath upon your neck, her lips taunting your awakening flesh. You didn't hear the door because Bob didn't make it -to- the door; she's happily crumpled against the corner nearest the door, a shockingly content look upon her face. You want to warn Athe, but you've needed the feel of her against you like this for too long. In the end, you simply attempt to keep Athe's volume down.

Panting and exhausted, Athe's sweat-slicked form carefully squirms from atop your own. Lost in your own desires, you'd forgotten about Bob. Athe's cry of surprise jogs your memory and you stare at the shocked Eldar, her jaw agape at the spectacle that likely woke her. The xenos fumbles her words as she hastily moves to exit your quarters. After a seemingly endless silence, Athe bursts into laughter. "Cultural exchange goes both ways, I guess?"

"I expect the cargo to be aboard and stowed for transport within three hours. Good job, Kelly."

"Yes, Captain" You have to admit, her outfit must have helped quite a bit with her work. Did Athe have something to do with that, or perhaps she just learned quite a bit from her time as a slave upon Aquari. Regardless, you do wonder how she's retained so much of her bronzed skin tone during her time with your crew.

I'm gonna say go with the small group to Celentis, it's not too far and we'd easily be able to get back to our secret system.

Might be interesting to see what kind of an imperial presence might be showing up in this sector.

Or we could craft better replacements for our standard admech augs. Would it also be possible to sell some of the augments we produced these past months?
