Good evening once again /tg/! It's time for Part Three of Civilization Quest. When we last left off, the great White Wolf that leads the packs that have been stalking our tribe had stunned the entire hunting party by speaking our tribe's language!

Unfortunately, as hypocritical as it seems, the thread will be a few minutes late to start as I'm not done with dinner yet! It won't be too long however, so please be just a little patient and forgive your GM this mistake!
>>
>>20348537

I have been waiting for the past hour already because being the retard I am, I miscalculated the time.

Now I am happy that you are here, and excited as to where the tribe will go from here.
>>
>>20348577
That happened to me on the first thread. Different time zones bite. Now the only question is... Where is everyone else?
>>
Waiting for the game to start.
>>
I've been waiting for the last hour because I'm an impatient fuck.

:3

At least I didn't forget this time! :D
>>
Yay! I'm only 20 minutes late
I hope you won't make a ritual sacrifice to fish, OP
>>
>>20348648
*make me a ritual sacrifice
derp
>>
Four of you will do for now. More'll show up as we get going! Now then, we last left the tribe in the middle of a major event! The previous thread is archived here http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20319442/ but to recap...

The White Wolf Dashes in, this time pulling up short. To the hunter's astonishment, the Wolf lunges for the spear, its jaws snapping for the shaft of the weapon! It's hard to bite a darting spear however and the White Wolf gets a nasty cut for its trouble.

The White Wolf back up, until it stands just outside spear range, crouched low and unmoving, its eyes watching the hunter warily...

Then jaws drop on everyone on two legs as the White Wolf speaks. Its words are snarled and gutteral, but it's definitely words! "Killed wolf pack. You pack not welcome. You pack leave or wolf pack kills. Not room for two hunting packs. You have long fang. Sharp fang. You strange but strong. Go. Wolf pack not hunt you. Or stay and wolf pack kill."
>>
Is the random event over now or do we get to vote on running away / total wolf annihilation? Will you post another round summary or should we look in the past thread?
>>
...Knew I forgot something! Choices!

Right now, it's an open field, for once. You can pick an attack, as usual in a duel, or you can try to negotiate. Up to the vote, as always.
>>
Mock Wolf's silly Hulk-speak.

Okay, that wasn't a real suggestion.
Now seriously. Can we assess our chances?
If we have a chance on defeating him, and the other wolves if necessary, then it's better to fight
>>
>>20348783
The next round will be up after the current event is dealt with. There'll also be a rules update regarding population growth. I managed to finagle out some rules that seem pretty balanced.
>>
Hmm... Well, at the risk of taking on a currently-superior force, we don't currently have the option of just packing up and moving who-knows-where, just to appease some fucking wolves, super-intelligent or no. That said, I don't know that we can take an entire pack. Maybe take out their leader, and try to start forcing domestication of the "regular" wolves? Either way, we have to fight.
>>
Ask it how it knows our tongue, especially since the neighboring village spoke a different language.

That being said, negotiation might be worth considering.
>>
I'm interested in negotiating. I would feel bad for killing a goddamn huge speaking wolf.
Maybe we could look into a diplomatic solution? As in our tribe would focus mainly on fish / fruit and hunt for hides, giving the wolves the meat as tribute. We could demand some wolves as guards in return or something.
Would be nice to start domesticating. This could give us an edge over other tribes.

However if that fails, we will have to annihilate them (and keep some puppies for us, because PUPPIES and domestication)

TL;DR Diplomacy for now.
>>
>>20348859
This.

Although, as I said in the previous thread, if it has the potential for speech, it has the potential for deception. How can we be sure it'll keep its word if we walk away without proverbial tails between our legs?
>>
>>20348881
I would never let an enemy guard the village. I would think more of territory sharing. We don't go near its tree, it doesn't come near our village. Fair is fair. They may not be just dumb animals, and they may very well plan against us.
>>
>>20348889
with our, not without

fuck, why am I so full of fail?
>>
>>20348889
Like in medieval Japan (Not sure if I'm making this up):
Exchange of hostages. Give them some of our people, take some from them.

But I don't think that's feasible, so forget this comment.
>>
>>20348920
Guess you are right about the guarding. But if we get some of them from a very young age to take into training that should be a different matter. (Sorry, I would just love to have some wolfies on our side)
>>
The hunter asks the wolf how it can speak the tribe's language, still keeping his spear between himself and the animal. The wolf snarls holding its ground. The numerous wounds inflicted on it don't seem to cause it pain at all.
"I am Alpha. Rule pack. See you walking on two legs, have fire, have long claws you pick up. Watch and listen. Learn talking. You chose now. Leave or stay. Not room for two packs." It sniffs the air and snorts, "You not like pack. Not like me. I greater than wolves... Maybe greater than you, but not know as much. Will learn. Maybe you win today, but I not die. Some time, you stay, I learn, I kill."
>>
>>20348979
So, what.
He wants us to move out of our land?
Never.

Attack.
>>
>>20348979
That means they will all have to die.

Should we still propose a deal or take our chances right now as he is injured and try to finish it before it gets too smart?
>>
>>20348979
Go in for the kill. That's genetic evil talk right there, his pelt will make an excellent headdress.
>>
>>20348979
Cocky little bitch, ain't he? He might have one good point, though: He'll only get stronger if we leave him be. Also looks like negotiation isn't an option, more "do what I say or prepare to die." I vote that we don't take that shit from some albino puppy. He thinks that even if we win, he won't die. Let's put that to the test.
>>
>>20349050
*ahem* I really shouldn't be doing this, but from a strictly neutral standpoint (insofar as what direction you take)... It's not evil. It's simply survival. Two packs hunting in the same territory reduce the numbers of the prey too much and BOTH starve. Then again, that's only when you're dealing with dumb animals. As you're both intelligent... Well, your actions are your decision.
>>
>>20349087
Hmm, that's an interesting idea. Is there actually any possibility of actual cooperation? If we remain separate there isn't enough food for both, but if we work together, such as the wolves hunt for food so that we can develop agriculture, there might be ways to support a single tribe, made up of humans and wolves alike.
>>
>>20349087
Then I vote for negoatiations in the direction I proposed earlier.
Let them have the deer (but ask to have the hides) and we try to get by on fish and agriculture.
>>
>>20349087
Threatening to come back from the dead to hunt our clan down to extinction sounds pretty evil.

I still vote kill. There isn't enough room for both of us.
>>
Yeah, I'm calling his bluff.

Kill them off. This land is our land.
>>
I still vote for attack.

Inb4 GAME OVER
>>
The hunter considers for a moment, then shakes his head. "No deal." He lunges viciously, the spear grazing along the White Wolf's side as it leaps away

ADVANTAGE HUNTER
WHITE WOLF 14HP
HUNTER 27HP

The White Wolf snarls and its hackles raise, "Fine! Kill you, drive your pack off! Wolves here first, wolves keep land!" A strange, almost tangible aura of unease starts to thicken the air as the White Wolf digs its claws into the frozen ground and fills its lungs with powerful breaths of air.
>>
Defend!
>>
>>20349256
But we were destined to be a big happy family!

Defend, looks like he'll shoot an ice beam or at least do a special.
>>
>>20349256
Defend, although it might have magical ice powers judging by that description.
>>
You still around, OP?
>>
The hunter raises his spear cautiously, just as the White Wolf lets out a howl of such ferocity, it almost seems like a physical wave! The pack picks up the note, the air shaking and reverbarating, drowning out any other sensation. In desperation, the hutner heaves the spear with a cry lost in the cacophony. The howl is abuptly cut off as the White Wolf is forced to leap to one side... And yelps in pain as it lands. A sudden rush of blood tells exactly what happened; one of its many wounds finally started to rip open from the sudden movement.

ADVANTAGE HUNTER
WHITE WOLF 10HP
HUNTER 27HP

The White Wolf backs up, keeping low to the ground. Its motions are hard to read, but it still seems to have plenty of fight left in it, the pain of the wound just making it angrier. It stays low however, its manner cautious and wary. With the White Wolf between him and the spear, the hunter is forced to rely on his flint knife.
>>
>>20349439
Attack. He's clearly not going for Special, and our hunter's current HP pool means we can afford to take a nick in Attack vs. Attack.
>>
Attack now, I think
>>
Depends: If we Defend, can we circle him in the process? I want my spear back to finish this, but I'd rather not have to go through him to get it. If that's not possible or viable, go ahead and Attack.
>>
Stab it with the knife. Wolf fur should definitely keep our tribe warmer than deer.
>>
Attack, he may be opting for defense at the moment.
>>
Attack it.
(Hey OP, will you give us some extra fluff in the process of this game, or will it all be left open to speculation? Because I wonder why our tribe has seemingly never before heard of talking animals. If we are nomads we should know about them if they are common. Do we happen to have stumbled into a magical land?)
>>
rolled 89 = 89

>>20349561
These things aren't nearly as common as you'd think. In fact, you could probably consider this one fairly unique. As to just WHAT it is... Well you may or may not find out about that.

Just as the hunter charges forward, the wolf springs! Teeth and claws meet arms and knife as the two combatants clash!

WHITE WOLF BONUS +0
HUNTER BONUS +0
DIFFERNCE 0
CLASH VICTORY 50+
>>
>>20349606
Rearing up on its hind legs, the White Wolf is huge, towering over the hunter and heavy as the day is long. Unfortunately for it, it's not nearly as fast. The hunter jabs his knife into it neck in two rapid stabs, stepping to one side and heaving the White Wolf away, before its teeth can fasten over his arm.

HUNTER WINS CLASH
WHITE WOLF 6HP
HUNTER 27HP

Reclaiming his spear, the hunter turns to see the white wolf bleeding heavily, circling him and snarling, "You strong. Will learn much. Wolves will starve, but I will learn." Its body is low, a certain pride to its bearing even now. It's ears are still back and it doesn't look ready to give up yet.
>>
It's def. gonna attack, now.

Show it the strength of the humans. Special.
>>
>>20349636
Could be preparing for a pounce, but it might just be a wolf's standard defensive posture, I can't tell. Attack.
>>
>>20349636
Always end a battle with a special attack. It will make a lovely trophy, perhaps even some culture based around such a rare beast.
>>
>>20349698

I say, if we win this fight, we should hold a feast in its honor and name our tribe the White Wolves, after the first important event in our history.
>>
>>20349748
Absorbing a slain enemy's culture just means that it wins in the end.

I say we leave it where it lies after we kill it and we never speak of it again.
>>
God dammit, what is wrong with my internet tonight? I only see three votes so far, so going to give it a few more minutes. I think I have my connection fixed now at least, so there's that. I really am sorry about this.

>>20349748
Bonus points for realising the tribe doesn't have a name yet!
>>
>>20349804
Now now, wolf pelts are much too warm, and winter is coming. We are in no position to waste resources.
>>
A special attack to finish the fight is tempting, but I think he is on defense so a normal attack is more feasible. (should leave him alive to either run away or be finished off by a special).

ATTACK!
>>
>>20349804
I see what you're saying, and I agree as far as naming the tribe goes, but I think we do need to remember this event, and incorporate it into our legends. If this thing is right about its whole "if you strike me down, I shall become more powerful blah blah blah" routine, we need to remember, so that our descendants can be ready down the line.
>>
>>20349863
Yeah, forgetting about it is a little on the extreme side. But calling our children after our first great enemy is just retarded imo.
>>
Brimming with confidence now that his spear is back in his hands, the hunter attacks! The sudden assault was ill-considered however, as the Wolf sinks its body and lunges, its teeth fastening around the hunter's leg. The man yells in pain as the wolf shakes its head powerfully, pitching the hunter to the ground, before opening its jaws and sending him rolling over the frozen earth.

ADVANTAGE WHITE WOLF
WHITE WOLF 6HP
HUNTER 20HP

Licking the blood from its maw, the wolf almost seems to grin, keeping its distance again, eyeing the hunter warily. "I learn. You learn too. Learn to use head, not just teeth." It pads back and forth, the pain from its wounds finally looking like its startin to slow it down.
>>
>>20349917
Like I said, that's a wolf's defensive position. I get the appeal of ending on a Special, but let's just do a regular Attack and finish this puppy.

Also, I'm going to take off pretty soon, grabbing dinner with some friends. Thanks for running, OP!
>>
>>20349917
Attack.

And maybe some culture based around the killing of a nature-spirit. To claim the wilds as man's domain.
>>
If the wolf's defending, doing Special would be foolish
Attack!

Also, nay on the "White Wolves" name
What is this, political correctness towards wolves?
Name our tribe "Wolf Killers", if anything
>>
>>20349973
I also support turning this into a festival

We already got a summer Festival of Fish and Totally Decent Partying
Now we'll get a winter Festival of Wolf Killing
Neat
>>
>>20349988
Haha, yeah I guess that would be too much. We aren't even finished with the fight anyways.

Also it could be that he tries to fool us again, acting like he is getting slower. (only to prepare a special or whatever)

That being said, attack anyway
>>
>>20349988
That's more like it. Seconding this name.

Also, normal attack now.
>>
>>20349988

Whatever we decide to name ourselves that white wolf pelt would make a smashing hooded cape.
>>
Why do I get the feeling that silliness is starting to creep in here? Ah well.

A good hunter learns to wait before anything else. Sooner or later, the prey will leave an opening and that's the moment to strike. The White Wolf keeps pacing... The opening is only an instant, a moment as it winces, putting its paw down, but it's enough. The Hunter lunges forward, spear first and roaring a cry as he puts all his strength into the attack. The White Wolf looks momentarily stunned as the spear cleanly pierces its flank, almost pinning it to the ground. There's a pause, then it coughs heavily, blood spraying from its mouth. "You... Win. Strong. I learn... Much..." The great beast finally slumps, falling to the ground.

HUNTER VICTORY

The wolves, as though shocked and rattled by the death of the huge beast, suddenly start a great comotion, howling and barking as they scramble away, almost falling over themselves to leave, they're so fast!
>>
>>20350006
We'll call our new midwinter festival Wolveswatch, in honor of the warriors who stood vigilant guard against the four-footed menace.
>>
>>20350028
Ceremonial headdresses are always cool.
>>
Carry the great beast back to our camp.
Feast on its flesh as a festival to honor the hunter's victory.
Have our best leatherworker carve the beast's hide into a cloak for our victorious hunter.
>>
Combine >>20350084 with >>20350066
>>
>>20350084
And make him chief? Just suggesting because I'm not sure if we have some kind of small government yet. Do we need one? Are we lead by the elders?
>>
>>20350107
Somehow I think I always go one step too far. Scrap that chief thingy. But I'm still curious as to who leads the tribe.
>>
>>20350107
The families lead themselves. We can have him head of some form of central government, with the Elders as a advice.
>>
Your hunters return home to cheers and joy from the village! They are welcomed home as heroes and tales of the White Wolf's defeat are told well into the night of partying, growing larger and grander with each re-telling. The White Wolf is skinned, its pelt taken to be made into a cloak for the heroic hunter who defeated the best. Mysteriously however, the carcas of the beast vanishes into the night and no-one seems to know where it went...

OPPORTUNITY
Name and add a description of the heroic hunter and gain a special person for the tribe! Heroes can be sent to accompany certain actions and can have a great impact on their efficacy.

E.) Research some kind of religious system based on the world having manifestations of itself in the form of spirits, and that these spirits live in the sky, visible at night. When one dies, they return to live with these spirits in death, and that the wolf must have been a spirit that found itself trapped on the Earthly plane. Killing it liberated it, setting it free among the skies to protect the tribe.
>>
>>20350237
This is very important to our tribe, the first really big hurdle in our way. We have plenty of food and should easily make it through winter. We can't really gather more food (except deer, but they should replenish I think. We hunted them before winter started).
Having a real Identity, a hero and a tale to tell would boost our morale, which isn't low but also not really high.
Winter usually IS the time to hold feasts IMO.
I plead for a cultural happening. To praise our hero, to strengthen our culture, to claim identity.

I came up with wolf slayer, but wolfsbane sounds better, so go for it.

Your tribe holds a great feast in honour of Trym Wolfsbane. Everyone quickly adopts the idea of granting heroes like him a title and the idea spreads like wildfire. The feast is likewise a great success, sending spiritis soaring. Even the wolves look like they've retreated for good!

We could scout around, maybe finding something like it.

Wow, you're actually asking the elders! Blimey, okay then...

The Elders are currently very happy with the way the tribe has been handling itself. Their major concerns are the tribe downstream and the fact that the forest hasn't really been explored too much left. What the tribe doesn't know can hurt it, after all.

>>20350585
Okay, sorry then. Seems to make more sense than i thought.

How about the tribe researches / builds / feasts in winter and gathers resources / scouts / forages for food in spring and summer?
Would make some sense because winter is a dangerous period to be snooping around and since we can't gather food we might as well build.
Spring/summer are too precious for gathering food than to waste on building (excluding seasonal stuff like researching agriculture).
Might make sense. Ignore me if it doesn't.
>>
On the final full moon of winter, your wise ones make a discovery. Taking a springy branch of new wood and tying a crude cord made from a deer's tendon's between the ends, they manage to create a weapon unlike anything the tribe has seen before. Capable of hurling a small spear much further than it can be thrown, the bow and the many arrows a hunter can carry promises to be a great discovery for the tribe!

Damn I forgot to ask: OP, can we have a crude map of our surroundings? (Even if our tribe has to make it himself) Or at least some general directions as to what is where? (north or even directions like left right are fine)

As I imagine it right now, the river is east of us, flowing from south to the north where the rapids and the other tribe are. South is the clay pit. West is the forest and the wolf oak. Correct me please

Should i sage for this doublepost? (Just putting sage in the e-mail field is fine, right?) Sorry for posting so much shit, i'm a newfriend

The best way to learn their language would be to send someone to live with them for a time. Learn they're ways and provide gifts so they don't murder that person.

Don't worry about the post count. There's enough elegan/tg/entlemen here that I haven't noticed it. As it so happens, I do have a map of the surrounding area, but given that your tribe hasn't even looked into basic pathfinding, or navigation, let alone writing and mapmaking, all you know is that the pines and other tribe are downstream, the clay is upstream and all the landmarks in the forest are on one side of the river, given you haven't crossed it yet.

Your scouts head into the forest, noting that it gets thicker and harder to travel through, the further they get from the river. The flowing fruit trees in the glade are familiar to them, as are the signs around Wolf Oak. Even with the White Wolf dead, they avoid the place out of supersticious dread. Just as their supplies are about to run out, they reach the other side of the forest, finding a wide, open and grassy plain, reaching all the way to the foothills of the mountains in the distance, boardered by a river lit silver by the sun.
