"Hey, Boss." Feegul said, as the armed kobolds peeked out from behind the trees at you. "We'd. . normally be able to help you if you needed anything, but not now. Another clan needs our help, so we're going to war."
"War?" Kristoph asked.
"A clan to the east has stopped singing." Feegul said. "They have a new boss- one that's crushing their culture. Or they're dead. Either way, we go to war- to the ogre lands."
"...How are you planning on getting there?" Raziel asked. "It's across the sea."
"We have Ragnarok's Song." Feegul responded. "The song of hear and far away."

"As it happens, that's where we are probably going." You say. "Just to be sure, point the direction you're going, and do you think you can sing Jormungandr over as well?"
Feegul hesitated a moment, and then pointed to the west- toward the sea, Sosaria, and then ogrish lands- the place you scried a kobold cub, and smelled smoke.
"I don't think we can bring the boat, boss. The song's power only works with kobolds, and that thing is alive."

>West is the ogrish lands, with the smoke and kobolds and ogres that stopped sending couriers. Between the provinces and the ogrish lands, Sosaria sits as an island nation. Feegul's clan intends to go there.
>East is the dwarven lands, where Tyr reigns and the 'children' live, according to Azariel. You sent Lewin and his adventuring party there, on an investigation trip.

You take a silver ring out of Jormungandr's storage, and hold it tightly, focusing your magic. .

The ring warps, and and then starts glimmering.
And then it shatters, small bits of silver shrapnel falling away from your hands.

Feegul looked down at the shards, still glowing with formless magic, and back up to you.

"Sorry, I swear this has never happened before! Let me just... erm, I can fix it. Just..." Apparently we're having the magic equivalent of ED. Rolling to magic-fix the ring and try again.
>>
>>20412415
Yeah, did you not get a chance to read all of yesterday's thread? We hired the Adventurer's Guild to investigate the Wyrm cult to the East while we went West to investigate the Ogre disappearance and enlist the aid of the Kobolds.
Oh and it's spelt Jormungandr FFS. Just call it Jormy for short or something.
>>
"It, uh, didn't work." You say. "Sorry, I swear this has never happened before. Let me just... erm, I can fix it. Just..."
"Alright, boss." He said. "But I already have a ring." He said, showing you his communication ring. "Do we really need another one?"
"I'm going to modify it so that I can help you as much as I can." You say. "Just think of me and ask."
"Okay, boss." He said, handing you the communication ring.

With intense focus, you will your power into it- a large portion of your power ebbs away, but the spell holds, clinging and binding with the existing enchantment. You give it back to Feegul, and you intuitively know- it'll now serve as a relay for your magic, although weaker than normal.
"Thanks, boss." Feegul said, slipping the ring back on.
>>

"Like.. this." You say, and focus your magic through the ring. A wisp of magic bursts out of the ring, arcane glyphs and motes of power ascending out of the silver ring. .And then the spell falls apart, badly, and you feel weaker- your legs start trembling as the magic use takes it's toll.

"Ooh, pretty." One of the younger bolds say, peeking at the ring as it glimmers, arcane sparks dancing off of it's surface. You quickly just start tickling the cub, and he twitches and squeaks, giggling and kicking his legs, somehow still standing.

"What other sorts of spells can you do?" Feegul asked.
"Point your finger into the sky." You say, and he does so.

With a quick pulse of magic, a torrent of flame bursts free, scorching the sky with smokeless, arcane flame.
"I. . see." Feegul said, as you continue to tickle the giggling kobold.
>>
>>20412590
'Dawww, cutebold. Anyway. That is enough magic for now. It seems like with age our powers have mellowed. More stamina but less reliable. We'll have some Mana tea once we get back on the ship. "feegul, are any of your people staying behind? I can offer them sanctuary in new Arcturus till you and the warriors return."

"Well, it works now." You say, as the kobold cub falls to his back, still squeaking and writhing as you continue to tickle its ribs. "Feegul, since we're going the same way I look forward to meeting you there. I don't want to leave my ship, so you'll probably get there first, but I have no doubt we'll meet again. Are any of your people staying behind? I can offer them sanctuary in new Arcturus till you and the warriors return."

"We intend to leave our young behind." Feegul said. "Our non-warriors, too. I would very much appreciate if you took them to your land, boss."
>>
Very clever, Exabyte. In order to counteract the power creep from us having 2 years more practice, you're making us roll horribly so we waste 90% of our energy.

>>
"Alright, then. Get your noncombatants on board, and we'll get moving."
"Right away, boss."
"On it, Boss"
"You think she'll have work for us?"
"'O course, she's a Boss. An' a queen."

Soon enough, the unarmed kobolds had loaded most of their belongings up onto Jormungandr, and the warriors were standing in formation again. The non-warriors climbed up against the balcony of the ship, leaning toward the warriors.
Feegul said something in a different tongue, and the warriors banged their shields against the spears. He said something else, and the non-combatants responded in the same tongue, as a single word.

Eventually, the warriors' clanging was repeated, banging against their shield every beat, and a simple melody started up.

"Thank you, Ishelda." Feegul said. And then he started singing- the rest of the bolds did as well, intuitively knowing the song. You feel something reverberating in the air, and you feel magic slowly rushing through the air. Feegul's singing was low, and melodious, and the tune reminded you of Ragnarok, somehow.
The music reached a crescendo, Feegul's singing louder and boisterous. The magic swelled, twisted, and the warriors were gone with a bang.

Kell starts tickling one of the kobolds, and the rest of the cubs start clinging to him.

Theoretically there is a cooldown time. They just translocated an army with reality-fucking song and hymn. "I think I'll be able to find a place for the kobolds." Gehenna said, pulling open a notebook full of sheaths of paper. "We do need a lot more people to spread grass seed and plant saplings and such. I'll figure out the logistics. But until then, we can put them in one of the larger buildings in Triune's Gift."
Gehenna stood. "Come with me- I'll show you to your homes."

"Okay."
"This one's Ragnarok's brother isn't he?"
"Twins, I think."
"Does he work for the boss?"
"He did last time."
"Yeah, let's go. I can't wait to see the city from close up."

Gehenna took the kobolds out of the castle, and down to the city in truth.
Redglare ruffled your hair. "It's been a few weeks since you last trained." He said. "We should train again- you don't want to get rusty, now do you?"

"Of course not." You say. "I think I'll have to start traveling again, though. Soon."

"Then we'll have to make this one count." He said, and drew both axes. You draw Rikar, and the attendants and pages quickly went to the sidelines- they know how wild your training can get.

Redglare starts with a charge, as he usually does, and you weave out of the way, slipping Rikar under the edge of one of his axes and trying to twist it out of his hands. His grip is too tight, and he wheels around, bringing both axes to bare.
What follows is a storm of sparks as axe parries artifact sword and vice-versa, as steel and spellblade weave around one another. Intuition and instinct, both trained and natural weave together, in a style that can only be called your own.

"Watch." You hear Nahzit tell the guards. "This is how you want to learn to fight, someday."

After a minute of parrying, you weave to the side, slide under his guard, and with a single jab, slice Rikar through a weak chink in his armor, under his armpit.

He groans, and falls to a knee. Marigold rushes to him, and starts healing.
Redglare starts laughing.
>>

"After all these years, Redglare, I don't know why you insist on wearing that clunky old armor. The craftsmanship is unmatched, but even the best craftsman can't compensate entirely for poor metal; there's too many chinks like that. It's in desperate need of reforging, I think."

He pushed himself up, still laughing.
"I would, but you don't just reforge armor like this." He raised an eyebrow and a finger. "You just smelt on more layers. The inner layers rust and fall off, eventually. But it does need another layer." He said, chuckling.

"I'm probably going to be charging into battle soon. Where and when is a matter that bears thinking on." You say, putting a hand to your chin. "I'll need archers and close warriors both."
"I'll arrange for the best to join you as your personal retinue, Mother Ishelda." Nahzit said, and saluted, before leaving the hall.

Wherever I need to. Something wants me dead on one continent, and something bad is going on on the other continent as well. This seems big. I think I'll start by going to see Tyr.

"Ugh. There's so much to do. I have to forge good relations with Sosaria, I have to make sure Feegul is alright while he's campaigning in the shattered West, I have to go East and meet with Tyr, the last living player of the Game, and befriend him and his realm, and then I have to go to the desert to find the source of all this hub-bub, find the Great Wyrm, and either make nice or clock him one! It's all going to be quite exhausting. But 'tis something to get me on my feet, certainly."
>>
>>20414560
I suppose I am going adventuring, though I'm thinking of it more at proactive threat removal.

It's not like the adventuring of a few years ago where I'm bouncing around the known world as much as possible, but there are things that ought to be investigated and possibly dealt with. The Children of the Great Wyrm for one, and whatever just happened to the Ogres.

I'm heading west to see the Ogres. I've had dreams of fire involving that land, reports of oddities going on there, and the kobolds stopped singing over there. It is reason enough to investigate.

I'm not going for fun, I'm going to go there, deal with the problem and come home as soon as possible.
>>
>>20414560
"I... don't know. [name of the guy who went east] left for East, and the [Kobolds? Whichever tribe we're the Mother or something of] went West, and East has Tyr and the Great Wyrm while West has... other kind of trouble. I have a feeling that whatever I do..." sniff "I can't save everyone..."

"what's the use if I can't save them all..."
>>
"That... is a very good question." You say.
"I'm planning on going either east or west. To the west, There's the sosarian royalty who want to meet me, and then there's the ogrish lands, which are apparently having. . some kind of problem, with the kobolds and ogres. Feegul's there, along with the kobold warriors. I tried scrying, but. . "
"But you're bad at scrying." She adds, and eats a biscuit. You nod.
"Exactly." You say. "And then to the east, where the dwarves are, something wants me dead."
"That's where you sent Lewin and the adventuring party, right?"
"Right. What do you think?"
". . I think you should stay away from whatever wants to kill you." She said, after a moment. "If they don't know where you are, they'll waste resources trying to find you, and weaken them in the long run."

Suddenly, you remember.
You Remember.

A sealed memory, deep inside of you, burst free, from several months ago. You remember a twisted, mirror version of yourself, golden sword in hand, saying something in a clear, direct tone. You remember bringing forth your own sorcery, but the twisted version raised her own hand, snuffing yours out. You remember her speaking, as she walked closer to you, of the void. Of the Wanderer.
You very vaguely remember her whispering, in your ear.
"Let's play a game. Find the Gearworks before I do." She whispered, her lips tickling your ear.
And then she kissed you.

You twitch, and Marigold looks up at you.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
>>
>>20416043
"I just remembered something... This is bad Mar. Really really bad."
>>
>>20416043

>>20416043

>>
>>20416043
Everything is wrong. Marigold, there is a change of plans. Tyr, Dragons, Ogres, they're all peanuts compared to what we're up against. Imagine me but evil and wanting to snuff out all existence. I have to get to the Gearworks before she does.

Give Mar a very tight hug.
>>

"Everything." You whisper. She lets go of you, and examines you closely. "Tyr, dragons, ogres, they're all peanuts compared to what we're up against."
"What are we up against?" Marigold asked.
". . I don't know!" You say, and you start to shake. Whatever memory you'd just unlocked was already gone. . but you remember those words. "I have to get the Gearworks before . . "
"Before?" She asked, giving you another hug. You don't remember, why don't you remember?

I don't know Mar, and the fact that something is screwing around with my memory this bad just goes to show how important this is. I remembered something for a little while and now I don't.

Take care of New Arcturus for me. I'll miss you.

Give her a hug and a kiss on the cheek and get dressed and prepare to head out.

Also call up Kiyara and Ell.
>>
"I don't... remember. Why can't I remember?"

"Like the one you did to yourself?" She asked, and you nod. "What if. . you did it to yourself this time, too?"

You close your eyes, and focus on the magic. It wells up in your body, swirling forth, rising up. You're as powerful as you've ever been, and your will is just as strong.

You go tearing through your own memories, seeking. . .

Nothing.
Nothing at all.

You can't find it, even with all of your power.
Perhaps. . perhaps it was a dream.
Marigold's about to say something, but then Raziel mumbles something and sits up.

"But you're in human form." Marigold said.
"That's just because it's a habit. Were we leaving today?"
>>
>>20416340
"Most likely. So we should definitely have a proper breakfast."
>>
>>20416340
Yes, we were. Also there's a new threat around and we have to find the Gearworks. This threat is messing with my memories so I can't give you details aside from it being extremely dangerous.

But first, breakfast.
>>
>>20416340
"As soon as things are ready. But it's not like we're in a hurry."

Privately: yes, yes we are.
>>
"Yes, we were, as soon as things are ready. But first, we need a proper breakfast."
"Hear, hear." Marigold said.

The three of you end up getting dressed and making your way down to the hall, where breakfast has already been made, and the dozen soldiers Nahzit had scrounged up were already there. You sit down, and try to remember more about that dream, to no avail. However, your pancakes are incredibly delicious- it's an Arcturian recipe, you recall. Marigold had spent some time with the cooks, back when you'd hired them.
"So, what's our itinerary?" Raziel asked. "Who do we pick up and in which order?"
>>
>>20416403
Start from the north and work downwards, I guess. Kaliel would be first then.
>>
>>20416403
Well we should call Ell and Kiyara, see if they're coming along.

Then we go to Cerulean, grab some knights and Leon. Ursae next for Fellwind and his lady. Then we grab Kiyara and Ell if they're coming along and head out.

"Start from the east and work westwards, I guess. Kaliel would be first, then." You say. "And then some knights from Cerulean, and then Fellwind in Ursae."
"Fellwind?" Raziel asked.. and then nodded. "Your choice."

After dinner, your assorted soldiers and friends started loading up their personal belongings on the ship.
Marigold hugged you. "I'll be busy regenting, but I want you to use the ring to communicate with me while you're gone."

Nahzit covered his eyes from the sun, peering out into the distance.

Nobody pays him any attention.

Quickly, the 'something' screeched toward you, sailing through the sky. . It was a gleaming, shining silver, and slowed near the tower.
You recognize it, vaguely. It's the Sparrow. Kiyara's airship.

It slows to a stop, soaring around to the other side of the airship tower, and stopped. Kiyara, and a humongous, silver golem behind her stepped forward, coming onto the tower proper. The golem hissed, it's head gleaming with a single spellcrystal where an eye should be, and an enormous spellcrystal of a sword sat on it's back.
"Lewin told us that things had started happening." Kiyara said, with a grin.

...Exabyte, you just shattered the illusion of your godlike power. Now you're just a normal guy who rolls like shit, I don't think you're fit to run these quests any more.

>I don't think you're fit to run these quests any more.
Good point. . I'm not. This is the last quest thread I'll ever do. Goodbye, /tg/. I'll miss you.

Bye. It was fun while it lasted.

You drain away some life force from the flowers on Jormungandr and grayson. Not enough to hurt them, you would never do such a thing. You force yourself out of her grip and on top of her and kiss her with renewed vigor, life force flowing from her to you. You feel her grow more solid under your chest, her heart beating in sync with yours.

You feel her stripping away your clothes, her skin touching yours, creating more pathways for the life magic to flow. And flow it does. You begin to feel drained, how much more energy will this take?

You gasp, and pull away from the kiss, but Ishelda holds you close. You are more exhausted then you have ever been before, but still the life magic is being drawn from you. You are shocked to see her eyes an empty black, seemingly absorbing all light. "Yes," she says with a voice as hollow as the sky, "this is perfect."

>What do?
>[]This is for the best, You want her to live.
>[]No! You can't die like this
>[]Other (specify)

rolled 11 = 11

[]Other (specify)
Equalize the power! We can both half-live!

[X] Other (specify)

Start draining the rest of the world. Leave it a shriveled husk if that is what is needed for this kiss to continue.
>>
>>20418326
>[] Other.
Drain Grayson's power, using it to sustain both you and Ishy.
>>
>>20418368
Won't that make Grayson's situation a bit... dire?
>>
>>20418352
Yeah, why not.

You decide that your love is worth the world. You reach out, and drain the life force of Grayson, he snores softly, then goes quiet. He'll never wake up now. You kiss Ishelda on the forehead.

You need more, the Jormungandr's flowers are next, shriveling up one by one, their power flowing towards you, then you reach further, pulling the very essence of life from the ship, put there by Ishelda so long ago. Your lips travel down her face, caressing her cheek, her ear, her neck.

The wood below you creaks, and hardens, going black. You feel the ship shudder, and come to a halt, hanging in the air, supported by it's arcane skeleton. You meet her lips again, kissing fiercely. Everything you have transferring to her.

But it's still not enough. You need more power, but you can't find anything else alive. The wastelands below you are still barren. It's a shame you didn't replant this area first, or things could have turned out differently.

But you know a way to continue. Not quite death, not quite a live, but something inbetween. You reach out and grab Ishelda's soul. As you try to bind it with yours, and you feel another force reach out and help you.

---

You wake up the next day, lying next to her. You can see the pattern of the pillow through her arm, your efforts were not quite perfect, it seems. You don't bother looking at your own, but you know it's the same. You go to get up, but Ishelda grabs you, eyes still closed. "No Mar, stay with me."

>(Good?) End

Worst end, Grayson is dead.
The half-living happily ever after with your true love thing is ok I guess.

>>20418614
Sacrifices have to be made when you try to get into Her Voidiness's pants.
