Ell, who you once thought was a golem, started laughing. "It's been awhile, Ishelda." He said.
"It has." Kiyara added. "We improved the Sparrow, worked on my own gauntlet, and then built that. . thing."
"Hey, this 'thing' is a very powerful animated armor." He responded. "As. . as long as it's powered."
"And the rest of the time it's a big motionless hunk of orichalum." Kiyara said. "Anyway, when Lewin and his adventuring group came by, he said that he thought you might be able to use our help, so he told us to come visit you- and we have."
"It looks like you're going somewhere." Ell added, eying the guards and your collected party. Raziel waves at him.
>>
>>20426595
"We're picking up some people in the Provinces, and then we're heading west. There's an ogre nation on that continent that seems to have fallen silent, as has the kobold tribe there."
>>
>>20426595
>"Are you coming with me? We're going on an adventure."
>"Of course we're coming." Kiyara said. You run towards her, and then right past her to hug the golem.
>"It looks like you're going somewhere." Ell added
Ell for detective of the year.
>>
"We're picking up some people in ogrish lands and the provinces, and then we're heading west. There's an ogre nation across the sea that seems to have fallen silent, as has the kobold tribe there."
"Well. . Sparrow doesn't have enough range on it's own to follow you. the whole way" Kiyara said, looking down at her small, silver airship. "Perhaps we could share the drain, or park Sparrow on top of Jormungandr. . . Or something."
"Or strap it to below." Ell said, and the red-haired fey nodded.
>>
>>20426711
Is there any way you could recharge it if we stopped for a while in Sosaria?

Do you need the ship? You two could just come on Jormungandr and leave it here.
>>
>>20426711
"What's limiting its range? If it's just magic reserves, you could always plant some Galadriel's Light on it."
>>
"What's limiting it's range?" You ask. "If it's just magic reserves, you could always plant some Galadriel's Light on it."
"We considered that, but the soil and grass would slow it down too much. It's built for speed." Kiyara said.
"Do you need the ship? You two could just come on Jormungandr and leave it here."
"Probably, but I don't want to leave it. Other than the range limit, it's much faster than Jormungandr. . " Kiyara trailed off.
"Or anything else any elves have ever made." Ell added.
"Is there any way you could recharge it if we stopped for awhile in Sosaria?"
"Oh, if we can use Jormungandr as a prism, then yeah, we could recharge it." Kiyara said. "Quite easily, actually."
>>
>>20426711
>The year it is.
>Not having a airship that can power itself.
Kiyara is dropping the ball here. Anyway, strapping it below would mean we'd have to move it every time we landed. Have it nest on top.
>>
>>20426840
Well if energy is limited you probably don't want to follow us as we snake around picking up people from all over the place. Meet you in Sosaria?
>>
>>20426840
"Is there anything we need to do so that you can use Jormaungandr as a prism? I'm inclined to use that approach."

Also, mental note to make a "climbing vine" variant of Galadriel's Light that needs minimal soil. Somehow.
>>
"Is there anything we need to do so that you can use Jormungandr as a prism? I'm inclined to use that approach."
"All we'd need to do, really, is put a spellcrystal near the power crystal." Ell said. "It'll recharge us as long as you're not going maximum speed- your Galadriel's Light is more than enough for both of our ships at once."
He looked around, and chuckled. "Marigold really did a number on those flowers."
"I *like* flowers." Marigold said, going red and putting a hand on her hip.
>>
>>20426922
"That's not a complaint, Mari."

"Let's install that spellcrystal, then, and then I think we can get underway."
>>
>>20426922
Marigold's good at flowers, it looks pretty.
>>
"Mari's good at flowers. It looks pretty."
"It does." Ell says. "Even gives mechanical benefits, too. Best of both worlds."
Marigold grinned, pleased with herself.
"Let's install that spellcrystal, then, and then I think we can get underway." You say. Ell nods to Kiyara, and the two of them get to work. Which, by 'get to work', they simply grabbed a crystal from Sparrow, and placed it down near one of Jormungandr's orichalum cables, and embedded the crystal into the wood. The entire ship groaned, and then the crystal started glimmering.
"Job's done." Kiyara said, stretching her long, orichalum gauntlet. "But for now I'll just set Sparrow to follow us- we can stay onboard until we need it."

You nod, and examine Jormungandr's map, marking out where you plan to go- First, to Carved Fortress to pick up Kaliel, and then southwest to Cerulean to pick up Leon and Cerulean's knights, and finally south to Ursae to pick up Fellwind and Jeanne.

How about an official departure ceremony?
>>
>>20427032
Upgrade Marigold's ring like we did the Kobolds'.
And say goodbye to the people who are staying of course.
>>
>>20427032
"You know, while we're in the Orcish lands, we should really see how the Venerable King & Queen are doing. It might also be prudent to inform them of the remaining ogres of the West."
>>
>>20427032
Say a round of goodbyes and then shove off.

>>20427075
How about not? These Ogres seem peaceful thus far, and the Venerable Queen is prone to fits of rage and irrationality. Besides, we're not IN the Orcish lands.
>>
>>20427101
We're going to be, soon enough. Besides, we're masterful in the arts of diplomancy and the Venerable Queen has probably mellowed out in these two years. Probably.
>>
Greetings loved ones
Let's take a journey
>>
First, you turn to the people who are staying, and give them each a hug in turn. Nahzit seems mildly embarrassed, Redglare chuckles and ruffles your hair, and Gehenna just plain nods. Kell hugs you back tightly, and you feel your armor creak from the force, and Marigold kisses you on the cheek. "Remember to call me on the rings every three days." She says.
"That reminds me." You say, and take her ring for a moment. It takes some effort, but you modify it identically to how you modified Feegul's ring.
"You did something to it." She says, looking at it.
"It'll let me cast through it." You say.
"So if I ever need help, I just ask you and you throw fireballs out of the ring or something." She said, and you nod.

"Now. Let's go, shall we?" You ask, and your companions and soldiers climb aboard Jormungandr.
Nahzit waves down to something below. .
And the lizardmen arranged below the tower start blowing something low and long on their trumpets- A farewell ceremony...

For a moment, it reminds you of Arcturus. And then you grin, and tap the control crystal, sending your airship north, Sparrow following behind.

>GO BOLDLY WHERE NO ARCTURIAN HAS GONE BEFORE!
But that's impossible, the Void Queen's been everywhere already.
>>
>>20427182
Whelp, we've nothing we need to do until we get to Carved Fortress...tea, anyone? I believe everyone is filled in on the current plan of action, such as it is?
>>
I hope we didn't forget to bring the tea.
>>
>>20427232
extra universals don't count
>>
"Onwards!" You cry, and Jormungandr goes onwards.

The morning sun quickly becomes a noon sun during your tea break, and you descend toward Carved Fotress, parking near the tower where Kaliel, along with the other kalak, reside.
You sit there for a moment, and then a mousy, short, girl peeked out of the window, her eyes violently red. Around her neck was a shard of glass on a silver chain, and she was wearing a tunic and a cloak of some kind.
"I'm, uh, ready." Kaliel said, somewhat awkwardly.
>>
>>20427278
"Well, come on aboard, then! Why so nervous?"
>>
rolled 94 = 94

So how we are looking anyway?
What are we wearing?
Why i am rolling for summoning silly hat for us?
>>
>>20427268
Other dimension Arcturus is still Arcturus.

>>20427278
Kaliel, you look cute! Come on, let's go.

>>20427301
>Why I am rolling for summoning silly hat for us?
Because all the best magical girls have silly hats. Shouldn't we have a crown already though?
>>
>>20427332
We've got the crown/circlet/helm that goes with our armor at a minimum.
>>
>You're wearing specially enchanted orichalum armor, of the same quality of what you enchanted last time, and you have a crown- but right now you're wearing an enchanted, armored coronet, instead.

"Kaliel, you look cute! Come on, let's go. Why so nervous?"
"Because, erm, I can't really walk in this form yet." She said, her skin going bright red. You notice she's clinging to the stone tower's windowsill. "I need to wait for my pet."
A tall, long raptor clicked it's talons against the floor of the tower, and then approached, bags and belongings strapped to it. Carefully, very carefully, Kaliel twists her grip to hang onto the raptor instead, the two of them slowly making their way aboard.
"Okay, I'm ready." She said. "Let's go before Sardriel knows you're here."
>>
>>20427374
"Yes, let's. Why did you change into human form anyways?"
>>
>>20427374
Lets have tea with Sadriel he is probally cool guy.
>>
>>20427374
"Let's. Don't feel bashful about having an awkward time in a new skin; I had trouble getting my footing when I changed into a Kalak, too."
>>
>>20427426
Hell no.
>>
>>20427374
"Ah. I understand that perfectly, then. When I shifted into Kalak form, the first thing I did was land on my face. I do wonder, though, why decided to shift into human form. You don't need to if you'd rather not."
>>
"Let's. Don't feel bashful about having an awkward time in a new skin." You say. "When I shifted into Kalak form, the first thing I did was land on my face. I do wonder, though, why you decided to shift into human form."
"I-I was curious." She said. "About how I looked, and how it felt to have five fingers."
"You're *adorable*!" Raziel said, hugging Kaliel and spinning her around.
>>
I'm just going to set out a goal right now.
Before this journey is over, we need to hug a baby ogre.
>>
>>20427514
"Ah, always the researcher." We need to ruffle her hair.

"She's right, Kaliel, you are."

>>
"She's right, Kaliel, you are." You say, as Raziel sets her down again. Kaliel wobbles this way and that, but finally finds her balance. So you ruffle her hair. She jumps, and turns back to you.
"What was that? What did you do to me?" She asked, touching her head in a panic.
Ezekiel sniggers, while the non-kalak don't particularly seem to know what to do- but Zeke and Raziel both seem to find it funny,

Hey guys i have idea lets summon goddamn essence of our magic into book bind our soul to it and then enchant it to make us way stronger.

Everything?
>>

Point at our own head.
"Hair. It can be ruffled."

Contrary to popular opinion, that's not what Sauron did.
>>
>>20427621

"Don't worry, Kaliel, I just messed with your hair a bit."
>>
>>20427644
Worst thing that can happen to us is that void quen will get book before we bind our soul to it.
Not that she cant create one herself.

>>
"Don't worry, Kaliel, I just messwed with your hair a bit." You say, and laugh a bit. She frowns, and, somehow, blushes even more. "Maybe you should talk to Zeke and Raziel for tips on how to get along as a human. There may be more surprises lying in wait for you."
She gulped, and nodded, and turned to Raziel.
"Let's start with walking." Raziel said. "Feet aren't like talons at all- the toes don't really matter- don't think about them at all. You do need to figure out where the heel and palm, go..." She said, and started explaining the basics. You set Jormungandr to go southwest to Cerulean, and then immediately get distracted when the humongous, bipedal clawed lizard Kaliel had brought aboard suddenly licks your cheek.
>>
>>20427750
"um, Kaliel... What is it doing?"
>>
>>20427750
"You know, your... Raptor, was it? He seems friendlier than the last time. Did you manage to give him a proper mind?"
>>

>>20427750
"I...see you decided to give your lizard a mind of some kind, Kaliel. Does it have a name?"
>>
>>20427750

>>
>>20427799
It's a raptor. Like, straight out of Jurassic Park. It's mostly corded muscle, teeth, and claws. It's not cute in the slightest.
>>
>>20427750
Awww, seems like Kaliel managed to get these things beyond being simple automatons. Neat.
>>
"Um, Kaliel... what is it doing?" You ask, and the raptor licks your cheek again.
Kaliel turns back. "Sorry, sorry!" She says.
"You know, your. . raptor, was it? He seems friendlier than last time. Did you manage to give him a proper mind?"
"Yeah... I based his mind off of a wolf pup." She said. You pet the back of his head, and the raptor's leg starts twitching.
"Does it have a name?"
"Fenrir, destroyer of worlds." She said, as the raptor's tongue lolls out of it's mouth. "But I call him Fen."
>>
>>20427822

>>
>>20427836
"Good thing you didn't make Fenrir fluffy. Otherwise Grayson would be so jealous."
Btw. what's the bear doing atm?
>>
>>20427836
"He's adorable. Like a big, scaly puppydog. I just hope he doesn't start teething on the Jormungandr."
>>
>>20427836
Giggle, "Name fits."
>>
"The only words I have to describe that are 'terrifyingly adorable.'" You say, as the raptor pushes it's head into your hand.
"That was kind of the point." She said. Raziel takes her hands, and Kali starts unsteadily taking a few steps- the short girl, now that you look at her more closely, seems almost your age, despite being a head shorter than you.
"He's like a big, scaly puppydog. I just hope he doesn't start teething on the Jormungandr."
"The puppydog is just his. . default state." She said, licking her lips experimentally. "He gets mean when I need him to. And how do you not bite your tongue when you talk? Your teeth are like *right there*."
>>
>>20427946
"hmm... Instinct and practice I think. Humans do bite their tongues sometimes."
>>
Oh thats simple we train our tongues everyday by moving them whole days so we can hide them behind our tooths.
>>
>>20427946
"We spend years as children learning to avoid it. And still fail sometimes."
>>
>>20427946
"Pracitce. Lots, and lots of practice. I can assure you, going from teeth to beak is not the slightest bit less weird."
>>
>>20427946
We spend first three years of our lives, after the teeth have blossomed from the seeds of our ancestors, learning the majestic waltz of Teeth and Tongue.
>>
>>20427946
"We get two sets of teeth. One to ruin, and train with for a few years, and another one we keep until we die. I've got to admit they're rather strange, when I to think about it."
>>
"Hmm... instinct and practice, I think. Humans do bite their tongues sometimes. And I can assure you, going from teeth to beak is not the slightest bit less weird."
"Beaks are better." She said. "The tongue can't even reach out of the beak. That's how I'd design it. But then again, you guys don't have the voicepipes in the back of your throats, so maybe you need the teeth."
You stop petting Fenrir for a moment, and it whines, so you relent and continue scritching him.
>>
>>20428055
Ah, but tongue can be used for so many different things. Like licking lollipops, and, well, licking things in general.
Wink would be too much, maybe one quick eyebrow waggle?
>>
>>20428055
"Hmm, I wonder if you're subject to the human mind loopholes? You are now manually breathing!"
>>
>>20428055
"You can't chew with beaks though. And a longer tongue has its own uses too."
>>
>>20428055
"Oh, I'm sure both teeth, and beaks, have their respective advantages."
Grin in Raziel's direction.
Nope, no double entendre here. Just an innocent princess making smalltalk.

I'm pretty sure that's a general loophole
same as "don't think of pink elephants"

"Like. . licking lollipops, and, well, licking things in general."
Raziel raised an eyebrow, and you splutter, going red.
"H-h-have you tried eating yet?" You ask, quickly changing the subject. "I imagine putting food in your cheeks is going to be weird to get used to. When I was real little, I used to pretend I was a squirrel like that, but that was bad manners so I had to stop."

"They're small, fluffy animals." You say. "Kinda like a mouse, but with a big bushy tail. It loves on trees and is really adorable. They gather nuts and stuff from trees, and store them for winter. They'd also stuff food in their cheeks to carry away."
"I wanna see one." Raziel said. You nod, bring forth your magic. .
And become a squirrel. Your bushy tail shoots out from your spine, and your arms turn into claws. The world gets enormous, and much larger, and the raptor is staring down at you, enormous eyes staring endlessly at you.
And then it licks the top of your head, and wanders off.
Raziel picked you up, examining you closely.
"They *are* cute." She said. "Kaliel, look at this." She said, handing you to Kaliel. You aren't sure how you feel about being carried around like this.
>>

Immediately taking to your new form like a fish to water, you scrabble up her arm, and leap from one of her shoulders to the other a few times. You chitter at her. She doesn't seem to know how to react, so you lick her nose.

She blinks.

You leap, backward off of her, and land, back in human form again. She stuttered a bit, and then sighed and took a step toward you-
And fell forward, losing her balance and falling into you.
>>
>>20428468
Hold her up.
"Heh. Squirrel is a pretty fun form actually."
>>
>>20428468
"Ridiculous amount of nervous energy packed into a tiny, tiny form. It was like I wanted to do absolutely everything I could think of as soon as I could think of doing it."

I won't always be here to catch you Kaliel.

How does everyone feel about a nice cup of tea?
>>
You catch her, holding her up, and while she's there, give her a hug.
"Squirrel is a pretty fun form, actually." You say, still rather.. twitchy and hyper from your temporary resleeving. The aftereffect slowly fades. "A ridiculous amount of energy packed into a tiny, tiny form. It was like I wanted to do absolutely everything I could think of, as soon as I could think of doing it."
"Uh. . can you help me back up?" Kaliel asked, trying (and failing, for the most part) to get her feet underneath her. You do so, and she returns your hug for a moment, before slowly continuing to learn to walk.
"I won't always be here to catch you, Kaliel."
"I know." She said, staring at her feet and wiggling her toes. "You sure you don't use your toes to walk? I mean, that's how talons work. ."
"I'm sure." Raziel said.

"How does everyone feel about a nice cup of tea?" You ask.
Grayson harrumphs an affirmative.
---
"I'd forgotten how much you liked tea." Kiyara said, sipping at her own.
"I hadn't." Ell said. "But I always kind of got the impression that it was Marigold's obsession, not yours."
>>
>>20428584
That was entirely the wrong impression.
>>
>>20428584
"We both enjoy tea."
>>
>>20428584
We both adore tea, I was throwing tea parties for my retinue for a long time before I found Marigold. Though it is possible that she loves it more.

When you get the two of us together it's a wonder we get any work done for all the tea we drink.

And there are varieties of tea, such as swamp brew, which I quite like but don't suit Marigold's palate.
>>
>>20428584
Who doesn't like tea?
>>
"That was entirely the wrong impression." You say. "We both enjoy tea."
"I see." He said, and looked over to the empty shell of armor he was no longer wearing. "I do wish that golem armor had more power. As it is, it only works for a few hours a day."

Behind the spot where you, Kristoph, Raziel, Ell, and Kiyara were sipping tea, Ezekiel was helping Kaliel walk- she'd gotten it down all but unassisted. Raziel notices your glance.
"She's learning faster than I did. Almost as quickly as Uriel did, even. That takes talent."
>>
>>20428584
Well then, we need to do this more often.
Twice a week minimum, then.
>>
>>20428698
She did say she was good at adapting. Could it be because she understands bodies so well?
>>
>>20428698
"Yes. Except she's not a scheming sociopath, trying to cause political strife throughout the Provinces. Do you even know what Uriel was up to, all those years ago? I never got to find out. I still feel rather bad about... Causing his words to catch in his throat, and all."
>>
>>20428698
She's a smart kid. I really don't understand how hard it is because I cheat.

Ell, we have plenty of excess magical power on the ship. If you need extra you can siphon some from the Jormungandr or I can charge it up if needed in a fight.
>>
"Yes. Except she's not a scheming sociopath, trying to cause political strife throughout the Provinces. Do you even know what Uriel was up to, all those years ago? I never got to find out. I still feel rather bad about... Causing his words to catch in his throat, and all."
"Power grab." Raziel said. "Same sort of thing Vithriel did, except with more puppets and lying. He was going through the whole 'puppet king' path. And again, don't feel bad. He knew the risks when he decided to try to uproot Sirius Province, and he definitely knew the risks when he drank that potion."

Well if you say so. He was a bit of a jerk, and I didn't know about the geas that stopped him from talking.

I've never really understood the idea of trying a power grab that way, things are so much more stable when you actually build a power base.

"Well if you say so." You say. "He was a bit of a jerk, and I didn't know about the geas that stopped him from talking."
"That's not your fault either. Although the geas is gone, now that Azariel's dead, so it shouldn't be an isuse anymore." She said.
"I've never really understood the idea of trying a power grab that way, things are so much more stable when you actually build a power base."
"Precisely." Ezekiel said, sitting down. "That was Uriel's problem. He understood how to shapeshift, but he didn't understand anything else, or how people worked. He was almost a savant or something."
"Still." You say. "I've killed several members of your family, directly or indirectly. It doesn't feel right, and I worry, sometimes. I really need to apologize to him one of these days. Do you have anything you could make into a totem for Uriel?"
"Sadly, no." Raziel said. "Remember when Eidolon made him attack us? He burned away into ash. And not normal, spiritually attached ash, but into literally dead ash. I can't make a totem out of that. But if I have an entire day to focus, I can probably bring him back for a bit, totemless, so you can speak with him."

"I'd really appreciate it. I don't particularly like killing people, and apologizing makes me feel better." You say.

Soon enough, Kaliel was walking on her own, pacing from balcony to balcony, still barefoot. "We've stopped." She said, suddenly, peering down at Cerulean City below. "What are we doing here?"
>>

"Picking up another friend-"

"Picking up more people. Lady Cerulean was kind enough to lend me some of her knights, including one named Leon who caught my eye a few years back."
Kristoph grinned. "Caught your eye, eh?" He asked, sliding up his visor so you could see his raised eyebrow. "Want me to put in a good word with him?"
Raziel clanged her staff against his armor, and Kristoph shut up.
"If you wish to come down to the city with us, you must remember your manners. I'll show you how to curtsy properly."
". . That's fine. I'll stay here.. until I get a hang on things." She said, twiddling her fingers. "Most frustrating part is not being able to cast."

You nod, and then look over the city for a place to set down- and you find one. A tall tower, with what looks like ship ports sticking off of the sides. .

It's an airship tower. Newly made. Sirius did mention that they were planning on building them, after all.
You dock at it, and the snoozing guard there suddenly snaps awake, mumbling something and saluting.
"Welcome, your highness!" The guard says, acting as if he hadn't been snoring more loudly than even Grayson does. "To Cerulean city! The High Lady bid me to escort you and whichever companions you wish."

"Of course, Kristoph, it isn't really out of the way. Why don't we make that our first stop?"
"But- erm- The High lady-" Raul started stuttering, when Kristoph took off, and the group of your friends started to follow him.

The monument was.. much different than last time you saw it. It was clean, and candles were arranged around the base, and hundreds of names sat there, names of knights from the lizardman war- knights who died, and fought for humanity. The structure was larger, and much more brightly lit, with marble bricks and stone surrounding it.

In awe, Kristoph looked around, and stepped into the building, staring up at the monument, in awe.

You start to walk in as well, but then a wave of anti-magic bursts from him, sealing your magic inside of yourself.
Raziel takes a step back, and looks down at her hands.
"What." she says, and whispers a spell. Nothing happens.

You try to cast a few spells- to break his projection, to create an anti-anti magic field, just even to cast a wisp of flame.
The spell swells inside of your body. . but never casts. It's like the anti-magic field stops at your skin, and doesn't go any further. You have the feeling you could still shapeshift or heal something, if you needed to.

"It's beautiful, Kristoph." You say, walking into the room. "They deserve this."
"They do." He said, his voice thick.
"Just so you know, you're projecting. You've made a bit of a magical deadzone."
"Am I?" He asked, and closed his eyes. "Sorry."

There's a strange *twist* in the air, and the anti-magic field is gone. Your magic can breathe again.

"Am I still doing it?" He asked, and you shake your head. "Okay, good to know."

He turned around, and stepped away from the monument. He didn't meet anyone's eyes.

"What." Raziel said again, and looked down at her hands. She whispered a spell, and a spark of light appeared in her hand. "What *was* that?" She asked.

On a whim, you turn back to the monument.
Raziel is about to ask you what you're doing, and then goes silent.
You reach out, toward one of the unlit candles, and . . focus, power rushing through your body.
The candle bursts into white flame, steady and strong.
And then you turn back to Kristoph and continue following. If he noticed what you did, he didn't say anything.

"We'll have to play around with it and see what you can do later then. But we should pick up Leon first."
He grinned. "Yeah, I want to see how his swordsmanship has improved."

You make your way to Cerulean Hall, where a group of five helmeted knights salute. Lady Cerulean is standing there, in a thick petticoat that you're certain is armored.

"You have." She chuckled. "After that ball, the nobles started getting dresses made in the same design as you had. Everyone, sit down, sit down. You too." She said, pointing to the knights. The look to one another, and then one of them shrugs, and they all remove their helmets and sit.
"Leon should be here soon." She said, sipping at her tea. "He's collecting his belongings."

"Oh, it's not a bore at all." She said. "All I simply have to do is do what I've always done, and ignore the nobles as they rant at me. Squabbling idiots, all of them."
One of the knights clear their throats.

After some more small talk (and making sure the knights were drinking their tea properly, which they were), Leon finally arrived, wearing armless scalemail- hundreds of differently colored runes and glyphs lay on his arms, glimmering as he moved. "Would you mind if I took a closer look?"
"Go ahead, Ishelda." He said, very particular to say your name.

You put your hand on his bare arm, and reach out with your magic, trying to sense what you can sense, but torrents of random, strange symbols burst in your mind- symbols you understand nothing of. Energy drains out of you, and you quickly take your hand off of his arm, as if they were burning. Your soulfire serpent uncoils from your arm, unbidden, and pokes one of the runes. A burst of magic comes free, and the serpent re-coils around your arm, sated.
Leon, however, now has his entire arm aflame. He looks at it, carefully, and then grins as it goes out.

"What are the terms going to be?" He asked, blade drawn. "Presumably we could both use magic, or it can be a simple clash of blades. . "

"Simple swordsmanship will do." You say. "I'd rather not set the fair high lady's halls aflame."

'. . I would pay to see that." One of the knights said.
"Luceth. . ." Another knight said, sighing.

Leon nodded, and then bowed. "Any time you are prepared, Ishelda."

You leap forward, bringing your sword to the left, and then feign a slash. He brings his blade up to parry it.
And then you hear a shattering noise. Mid-swing, he un-conjured his blade, and re-conjured it in his palm again, catching your true attack on the edge of his blade. Rikar and the conjured, nameless sword screech against one another as he pushes against your blade.

Things happen quickly. A foot swept under the back of your heel, knocking you back, and his blade's guard caught yours, and tore Rikar out of your hand, and it went flying through the air.
With the sound of something shattering, Leon unsummoned his blade, and caught you before you fell completely.

Could somebody explain to me why Ishelda is so upset about the duel?

If I remember correctly, Redglar broke multiple of her bones when they trained for the first time.

And I'm pretty sure she's spending most of her time on other things than training her combat skills. As Exabyte said, lots if time was spend on building New Arcturus.

So why is her defeat such a surprise? He probably knew a lot more about Ishelda's fighting style than she did about his as well.
>>

You don't know?

We wanted to win, to show off in front of all of our troops. And then after we lose, we learn it looked like he was humiliating us.

Mostly because some anons decided to be butthurt. I would say that it's because Ishelda knows she wasn't doing as well as she could have. (because monotreem rolled like a bitch.)

Heh, name/tripfags. Never good for anything.

>>
>>20431630
Alongside what the anons have said, it's also the part where Ishelda *is* quite competent at swordsmanship. She was able to defeat Redglare, which is the standard case of 'student defeating master', just to lose to a spellblade that wasn't even using his spells. That sort of thing, especially after defeating Redglare and with a head of a foreign state in attendance, would be humiliating. At least, that's how I see it.

Thing is, that's Redglare, and us training in our own hall. This was in a foreign hall, against some lickspittle boy-knight with a pseudosorcery talent, who royally trounced us, and then caught us mid-air in a dip, as if it was a bloody ballroom, which not only casualized our defeat further, but put us socially under his boot in the eyes of the knights assembled, not to mention our compatriots and the High Lady. We looked weak. Weak! We can't look weak. If we look weak, then it makes New Arcturus look weak. If New Arcturus looks weak then we and everything we've worked toward is vulnerable. That silly little duel jeopardized the legitimacy of our ENTIRE STATE, if word gets out about it! And now the boy is after us romantically? How does that work?

We don't know. We don't know SHIT about romance. We were too busy hanging out with a chill as fuck beardy wizard and getting the best education possible in our youth, and far too young to bother with learning how to into courtly love, before we ended up getting sent off to another world with nothing but the clothes on our back. One thing we do know, however, is that most courtly love does NOT start with the lady getting her ASS KICKED in court, by her prince charming.

tl;dr Ishelda is pubescent, unused to failure, humiliated, and confused. Also, angry. Hilariously and terrifyingly angry for only partially clear reasons. This can only end horribly. Hell hath no fury like a sorceress scorned and smitten AT THE SAME TIME.

Hell yeah, we reached the good end of SORQ.
What quest are you going to run next, Exabyte?

Damnit monotreme. Just damnit all.

Well at least we get a brawling lady. those are cool too I guess.
>>
>>20432302
Dunno. Exabyte has ignored other 99s as well.
>>
>>20432285
Nah, you're seeking the True End, not the Good End.

>>20432302
You do, eventually. Unless you accidentally kill her or something.
>>
>>20432323
Shh. If we act like it's canon we might convince him.
>>
rolled 35 = 35

>>20432302
oh suck it bitch.

I like to feel I improve the threads with my participation. and the epic failures and successes of my dice.

read back and search for my name. you'll see
>>
>>20432327
But the true end might be worse than the good end.
I don't think I can handle the truth.
>>
>>20432350
Just can the attitude fag.

Oh I'm not lamenting your presence, just your luck with dice. Please take the chip off your shoulder.

>>20432327
Yay Brawler girl! Romancible, I hope?
>>
rolled 72 = 72

>>20432389
oh the low rolls do that regularly.
>>
>>20432140
You know it just as well as I do - that's not going to work.

As long as there's a single person favoring a character, we can't be mean to, or disinterested in, him/her.

If there are 10 people reading the quest at any time. 8 actually write stuff. 2 like person A, 2 dislike person A, and the rest doesn't really care about person A.

How is this supposed to be resolved?
>>
>>20432485
Magic.
>>
>>20432140
>choosing
Why not take them all?
>>
>>20432485
I have a feeling that things will fall into place, eventually. Or maybe the ensuing shitstorm never gets resolved and I sit here, gleefully steepling my fingers, cackling from my throne.
>>
>>20432510
Who would want Kristoph?
>>
>>20432531
best for dom/sub play.
>>
>>20432531
He's the best dancer. And he's usually quite a gentleman, a very casual gentleman but a gentleman nonetheless.

Yes his relationship with Raziel went sour, that's between him and Raz, not between Ishy and Kris.
>>
>>20432531
Why not? He's a fine bloke.
>>
>>20432531
People liked Alistair. So I'm sure he'll find his supporters.
>>
>>20432531
I am sure you'll find more people who like a character than dislike him/her. Easily.

So just get used to the idea of Ishelda ending up with everybody.
>>
>>20432531
I don't have the slightest clue, but it seems like we're a minority here.
So deal with it. I'll have to, as well.

nope, grayson is the best dancer, and he has been since the beginning.

>>20432567
who?

I saw what you did when

Care to explain?

When we fight Leon in a rematch, we'll use magic. We can probably seal his sword in his rune, and then we can humiliate him as he is forced to fightwithout a weapon. Or something like that.
