Ack! Sorry it's a tiny bit late today, folks. I blame absolutely anyone but me! Right, last time, for the first time in a while, we ended without an immediate crisis! Let's see where we go this session, shall we?
>>
Your tribe is delighted with a chance to have a day off. During the celebrations for the massive baby boom, the single biggest series of births your tribe has ever seen, your people make a discovery!

Drumming on a hollow log with hands or sticks, shaking strings of bones so that they rattle; it may not seem like much, but from these humble beginnings spring the first musical instruments!

Any chance o getting this updated?

H) Ask the elders.
>>
Let's see here. How about...

F) Build a bigger food storage building.
>>
>>20443509
Nvm
>>
F.) We'll need more food storage for more people. Seems like a good idea.
>>
>>20443509
The map will be updated as you explore more. Just request it and I'll post it up. First though, I need to work on the map some more. Seeing as I run another game, not to mention playing in two more, as well as dealing with the wonders of English bureaucracy... Kinda had a lot on my plate. Mia culpa.
>>
>>20443570
I support this for now.

Also, given that we moved the fruit bearing bushes close to our settlement, are they now harvested passively or do we need to use an action for it in the autumn?

We should ask the Riverspirit if she knows the language of the other tribe and can teach it to us? I mean, she said she is also watching the other ones.
>>
D) agriculture
>>
>>20443711
We don't know shit about how plants grow. How are we gonna research agriculture without that information?
>>
>>20443729
What you need for agriculture is some sort of calender. So you can know when things start growing and when they stop. When to plant, harvest, etc.
Then just find a crop and domesticate it.
>>
>>20443782
so then let's do that. Research that.
>>
>>20443729
>>20443782
I guess moving and harvesting the berry bushes is the first tiny step going there. We will probably soon find out about their seeds spawning more bushes.

F) Food storage buildan! Need to stock up on food for the bigger tribe.

Hey, glad you're back and excited for the new session, OP.
>>
Your tribe spends the season working on a new hut, specially to store food. A lot of work is spent packing mud around the walls, trying to make as safe from vermin as possible.

Argh, I messed up. Food is 11/14 (the food store isn't that much of an improvement)

EVENT
It's the salmon run again! The river is thick with tasty, tasty fish!

Action Points: ONE

B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources

E) Hold a cultural event

>>
By the way, OP, didn't you say at the end of the last session that we get two action points from now on?
>>
>>20443887
Nope. Your population isn't quite large enough for that yet. You can however hunt and fish with the same action.
>>
>>20443886
D.) Research those bushes
>>
>>20443886
I want to know if the Riverspirit can teach us the language of the other tribe. If yes:

G) Have the Riverspirit teach us the language of the other tribe.

We have more than enough food for the winter, and the salmon rush lasted two months the first time it came up.
>>
E) Huh. Well, our food stores are awesome right now, so let's get that festival to praise Chani going!
>>
E) we need a moral boost
>>
>>20443938
E) seconded

Hey OP, do the bushes in our village give us a passive boost of food or will you just couple their harvesting like hunting / fishing. As in gathering and fishing together are one action point?

Also do food points adjust in "worth"? Will one point of food last the same length if we have 50 or 100 people? Or does food deplete faster with more people?
>>
>>20443932
> Asking a question is a free action
Chani says she knows the other tribes language, but she won't teach it to just anybody. If her priestess wants to go downriver, she'll whisper a translation in Rina's ear. She seems to take a delight in witholding her gifts except from those she likes. Speaking of the river spirit...

The tribe set to a celebration in honour of chani! The new music pleases everyone and several of the tribe start dancing. Chani herself appears and seems delighted by the new sounds!

What the hell, why are you always for feasting? We've wasted 3 rounds to partying last year, and only two or so to find food? And we still have nearly the top amount of food`?

Strange economy. I want to live there.
>>
Only two points? Oh, well.

B) Let's get them fishies caught.
>>
>>20444088
I've found it weird that our food stores haven't been depleting, as well. I blame leadership.

But damn if it's not a glitch I'll abuse~
>>
>>20444046
The bushes will need to be harvested manually, taking an action point. This will also include the fruit trees and the bushes still in the wild. It's worth noting that, as it's fall, the fruit is currently ripe and ready to pick!

And yes, food points are a constant, but a larger population will deplete them quicker.

>>20444088
Thanks for bringing this up. I'm still working out the system kinks behind the scenes.
>>
>>20444099
I'd say pick the fruit for balanced nutrition...

Thats
C) Gather fruit. Hopefully notice seeds.

D) calendar

rolled 3 = 3

Alright, there's currently three options with one vote apiece. That means it's rolling time!
1-2 Fishing
3-4 Gather fruits
5-6 Research callendar
>>
>>20444257
C) I could go for some fruit.
>>
Very much appriciative of a change in diet, the tribe sets out to gather the fruits from the trees and the wild bushes. The bushes growing around the village don't seem to be yielding berries, for some reason. The tribe gathers a great deal of food, although they have no idea how to preserve fruits. Smoking them seems at least a little effective. Some of the fruits are round, red and with a stiff skin, others softer, a gentle orange in colour and possessed of a very large, stone-like core.

The salmon run is over. It looks like the fish have vanished to wherever they came from.

EVENT
While harvesting the fruits, the tribe again encountered a large group from the village downriver. Several shot our villagers resentful looks as the tribe left for home however.

Cant we do

G) send some people as well as Chanis priestess to the other tribe and start negotiating? I think we might have infringed on their usual food source, that ought to lead to bad blood we need to get out of the way.
>>
We should really soon start looking into diplomacy and learning the other tribe's language. Things are starting to look iffy.

Another urgent thing: agriculture, defenses (walls...), maybe improving tools / looking into simple mechanisms like the wheel and stuff.

Question: Have we looked beyond the river yet? or just explored on our side?
If we haven't explored an area, what will it show on the map? Will the map be expanded / more maps?
>>
>>20444578
You've only explored one side of the river so far. As you explore more, that blank forest will be peeled back, to reveal more of the land and I'll post an updated, larger map.
>>
While the fruit is still fresh, your Wise Ones look into ways to possibly preserve it. Some of the food is used up with failed attempts, but the Wise Ones finally think they have a few ideas that should work, to preserve the fruit through the winter.

No, no, I am not going to make such an obvious pun!

Trym takes his spear and hand-picks a group of hunters to travel downriver with Rina and a handful of the wise ones, aiming to speak with the other tribe.

The raft arives at the other village and the party is greeted with curiosity and not a little mis-trust. The other tribe gathers to greet the party. Chani, it seems, is as good as her word and Rina can feel a soft whisper in her ear, translating every word the other tribe speaks.

How will the party begin to introduce themselves to the other tribe?

>>20445256
Do you mean by that, we should keep the clay pots (and maybe instruments) for trading instead of gifting? I suppose they are more valuable. After all, last time they fancied our pots IIRC.
And we don't know if they have instruments yet.
But if diplomacy goes well, we should really show off our music to them.
>>
>>20445297
Yeah, if we gift our best stuff, what will they trade.

That being said, we should probably centralize our clan's leadership if we're gonna keep doing inter-village negotiations.
>>
>>20445333

Yes, some basic level of government would soon be appropriate, I believe. Especially if we keep making babbies.
(Maybe a council of different areas of expertise? Trym from the hunters, wise ones, shaman, [crafters], women)
>>
>>20445366
>women as a different level of expertise.

Take that shit elsewhere.
>>
> Sorry for the delay. I've really not had much sleep lately. I'll keep the thread going as long as I can, but tonight may be a little short...

Rina steps forward and offers the other tribe strings of bone trinkets, explaining that they are gifts, to show goodwill. While they are mostly accepted graciously, one of the men they are offered to scowls.
"We cannot eat bone," he said angrily, "Why do you try to give us trinkets when what we really need is food for the winter? Your tribe are the ones from the herds and the fruit trees. Is the river no longer enough for you?"

NOTE
I forgot to mention. The other tribe still seem to be living in semi-permanent, sturdy tents. From what is visible, they use stone tools and there are a few signs of them knowing how to use bows like ours; a few arrows next to a log seat, a handful of dropped, knapped arrowheads... By the river, there are racks of air-drying deer meat.
>>
>>20445482
Offer them fruits and meat.
>>
Apologize and offer some food.
>>
>>20445482
We've always hunted the dear. We are willing to trade food for the winter, but we require something in return.
>>
>>20445524
>apologize and offer them food as well as our knowledge of food preservation

fix'd
>>
>>20445570
They're airdrying their meat, they probably know how to preserve food.
>>
>>20445460
Dude, what?
No idea what you want from me.
>>
>>20445460
>>20445607
Alright, alright, that's enough of that. Women did constitute a different aspect of society to the men, historically speaking. For the sake of this setting however, you can assume that the women perform the same tasks as the men. So you're both in the right.

The beligerant stranger snorts, looking suspicious, "Kind of you. I'll gather some others to take a share from your village. But the fact remains that there are too many of us in this area. If you stick to your fish in the future and leave the forest to us, there's room for us both. Keep hunting the deer and taking our fruit though and one of us will have to go." It's not a threat, by the sound of it. Not quite, at least. But it's close.
>>
Well, that was successful.
>>
>>20445694
maybe if they weren't being passive-aggressive fucks whilst we were picking 'their' fruit trees, they wouldn't be in this situation.
>>
>>20445694
So we will have to scout for new food sources or look into agriculture soon. I doubt overfishing will do us any good.

And I still don't know what the problem was. I'm not a native english speaker so I guess "areas of expertise" and "women" somehow suggested that they don't partake in normal activities like hunting and gathering?
If that offended anyone, sorry. As I said I'm not a native english speaker so mistakes like that may happen.
>>
>>20445694
Salmon runs occur upstream first. So their village would get the fish before it reached ours...
>>
>>20445694
Screw these guys. Seriously. Bunch of pricks. We try and help them and they're asshats about it.
>>
>>20445871
I heard that. I say we take them out and save ourselves the butthurt of having them come to us.
>>
>>20445847
Right, there's that too.
Adding to that, we wouldn't get any more hides from the deer. We would have to trade for it. And fish don't give us an additional resource besides food. Not mentioning they would have 2 food sources.

What a shitty deal.
>>
What is the estimated population from the number of huts?
>>
>>20445939
At a guess, you'd say their numbers are slightly less than yours. Maybe 30 to 40 of them.

It is worth noting that the guy you're speaking to doesn't look like he's in any position of authority. He's just haranguing Rina and the rest of the other tribe is simply falling in line. Herd mentality is a bitch at times.
>>
>>20446008
Ask to speak with their chieftain, leader, eldest or relevant equivalent.
>>
>>20446008
So, all we gotta do is pop this fool and the rest will fall in line?

Sounds like a job for Trym Wolfsbane.
>>
Okay /tg/, I'll level with you here. I have no idea how much sleep I've missed over the past week, but I think it's safe to say I need at least a couple of early nights. I'm actually feeling a little loopy and frankly don't think I can focus to run the game in this condition. For starters, without providing clear-cut responses and categories, I'm finding it a bitch and a half to even sort out what you're calling for. So, for tonight at least, I'm calling the thread here. I'll archive it on sup/tg/, as usual and the next thread will be at 4:30PM, Eastern Standard Time, on Saturday.

Again, I'm really sorry tonight's was short. I'll try to plan a little better for the next one and get some sleep, so I'm not totally helpless. Goodnight!
>>
Well, you get some good sleep then. I'd rather wait for a good thread than force a mediocre one.
>>
Don't feel bad. I dozed off there a little myself.

See you saturday. Now, get some sleep.
