"Hmm.. alright, what's your favorite food?" two girls of the same size, they sit on a bench overlooking the blessed garden before them.
"I like carrots, but sometimes I like oranges."
"What do you love to do?"
"Listen to stories!"
"Okay, who's your favorite person?"
"You!"
The two girls talk from morning until night, until the fated day had arrived.
------------

"Hey, Gestalt." you shout from the stairs. You move down the creaking steps of the Inn's basement, coming in on Gestalt who stares at a flower pot with, you guessed it, a dead flower. "What are you doing down here?"

"Nothing. Just staring at death." Gestalt stands up as she walks on over to the bottom of the steps to meet you. "What do you require?"

>"Nothing, I just wanted to see what you were up to."
>"I wanted to talk to you."
>"What do you think of our current situation?"

Go back and check on Brunstault then make sweet love to her again. And again. This time in front of Candice.

"I wanted to talk to you is all." you take the last step onto the floor, placing a hand on Gestalt's head to rustle her hair. Shortly after, she brushes your hand off, turns around and goes back to staring at the dead pot. "Do you think about death often?"

Gestalt flinches. "Prying is in bad t-taste." the Lunarian girl looks from the pot to the wood floor.

"Learn that from Brunstault, did you?"
"I suppose."
"Come on, you're usually mocking me right now." surprise is plain in your voice. She's usually making fun of you, slapping you in the face, pretty much everything you've grown accustomed to. "What do you think of our current situation?"
"I don't."
"Huh?"
"I don't think o-of the c-current situation. It's not important t-to me. I don't want t-to think about i-it. Not important." Gestalt struggles with her words. She's still not over that little quark?

There was no further use in pursuing the matter. You would only hurt Gestalt's feelings, and that wasn't any good. Being the bad guy wasn't your style, after all. "As you wish. Though I feel you are out of it. Want a hug?" you bring your arms out, inviting Gestalt to embrace you.

"Huh?" the seemingly younger girl turns away from the pot and to you. "N-no. I don't need it. Thank you though."

"You sure?" your brows furrow for emphasis.

"Pedo."

"Nope." you embrace Gestalt regardless. The frills on her clothes, her warmth and her hair, you feel it all. However, she's shaking in the embrace. Is she scared? "What's wrong?"

"N-nothing." her voice is trembling?

>"Are you feeling okay?"

You separate from Gestalt while asking the question, "What's wrong? Are you feeling okay?" Gestalt returns to normal as soon as the two of you put space between one another. The previously trembling girl smiles faintly, a tear streaming down her face.

"It hurts to remember. It hurts." deep within her concious, something screams at her.

"Why did you forget? Why? Why did you fight Herious? WHY?!" the voices grow louder and louder. The weight of the burden grows.

They tear at her heart. "I don't l-like to be t-touched like that a-at all. It makes me remember." the golden-eyed girl hugs herself as she tries to stop herself from crying. "Malfunctioning, huh..."

Me, Cadencia maybe even Brunstault if she's in one of her more helpful moods." a step forward and you extend your hand out to Gestalt, rustling her hair again. "Alright? Don't hesitate, I'm going to be here for a while." you sigh before scratching the back of your head. "So what do you say?"

"I see." Gestalt's voice dies as soon as it leaves. "That's it. I need to b-be alone. I want to cry a-alone." she turns away and walks forward, getting further and further away from you. What's ever eating at her is pretty serious. As much as you wanted to help, you should let her have her privacy.

Although. you STILL wanted to help her. It was a tug-of-war in the depths of your subconcious...

Some people just prefer to cry alone. She seems to know what she wants, we should let her have it.

Let's check on Candice, then talk with Cadencia about Lancastle, and more importantly, if she knows who attacked us. And I think we should still apologise for just leaving her at the inn while we went off to fight the Remnant.

Honestly, if the person who I was life-linked to continuosly left me, the support mage that can safely buff them with speed and strength spells, behind to throw themselves into situations that could get them killed, resulting in my own death, I'd be pretty pissed off, and so would most of /tg/.

"Just remember you'll always be able to call on me Gestalt. Alright?" you turn to walk up the stares that lead into the Inn's first floor. Gestalt says nothing. As you close the door behind you, the young girl's echo through the basement. The great sorrow that Gestalt bears on her shoulders is something you can't even imagine. Imprisoned for more then a millenia, alone in the darkness only to dream. What has she seen? What was her past like? Up to now she's only been snarky, she hasn't shown her true colors yet. "It won't do me any good to worry about it now."

You walk on over to the bar, order a couple of drinks and finish them up in about ten minutes. You pay the barkeep. Soon after you walk back onto the mainstreet to look around for something to do...

Nope, nothing. Nothing at all. People were still cleaning up stuff from the night before, repairing any damage to the main plaza. Still, it was kind of a boring place now that you're used to living there. "Really nothing to do around here."

With nothing left to do in the plaza, or the Inn, you continue onto Cadencia's house to find Candice sleeping in the main room. The girl must have fallen asleep waiting for you. A couple of steps forward, you grab onto the blanket and move it over to cover your sister. "Hey Cadencia, you around?"

"I'm in here." her voice rings from upstairs, probably in her study. With a sigh, you move up to the second floor into the hallway followed by the room with dozens upon dozens of books.

"Alright, Candice fell asleep and I have nothing to do." you lean on the doorway, scratching your forehead.

"I'm... going to take a break myself, if you don't mind. Is there any place you want to go?"

"Let me think for a minute..." you close your eyes, pondering on what exactly you want to do.

"Let's relax at the Vernegard Plains for a bit, then go visit Adfor's Grave." you pull yourself from the doorway to enter the room.

"Ah, very well. I'll grab some flowers then. Hold on a sec." Cadencia vanishes for a minute, only to bring back a strange flower. Something that.. smells.

"What.. what is that?" you grimace upon wafting the scent.

"It's a Rafflesia. Drei gave it to me the other day, and I don't know why. I don't like it very much but perhaps Adfor might?" she smiles at you and afterward she giggles. You shake your head from left to right, thinking what exactly Adfor would think of that flower. "Are you coming or not?" before you knew it, Cadencia placed her arm around your own as she started to drag you out the door.

"H-hey, not so hyper now. We've got plenty of time."

"Sorry, sort of impatient."

"Alright, let's get going to Adfor's grave." you take the lead instead of Cadencia pulling you down the wooden hall. With step after you step, you walk down the stairs and out of the house.

...

It's about half-an-hour, but you make it to the Bast Village. The people haven't returned yet, as they've moved to the Beastkin Settlement a bit further away since the Remnant problem with Adfor. "This place is still deserted." Cadencia looks around to see the abandoned buildings. A frown forms on her face, but you jerk her on the arm before it can get any further then that.

"They're all alive, that's all that matters. They'll be back soon." a smile, a nod, that's all it takes to get your Summoner out of her little rut. "And I'd get rid of that frown, Adfor won't be pleased."
"You're right... I'm sorry." a light smile forms on her lips. As the two of you continue talking, you come to the front of Adfor's old house where he once lived with the woman he loved. A man whom you struck down, giving him the end he desired. A warrior's death. "I don't have anything really to say, except thank you Adfor, thank you for training Frederick and for... well, everything." the summoner places the Rafflasia down onto the ground where Adfor's gravestone was. It was rather his own sword then a gravestone, but it was still out of respect. "What do you want to say?"

The bullet flies forward to its intended target. It rips into Cadencia's shoulder and out of her front. It stops just before your shoulder, just piercing you enough to make you bleed. Blood explodes from Cadencia's shoulder and onto you. "CADENCIA!"

Another gun shot. In an instant, you cover Cadencia's body with your own. The shot pierces your back, but like before, it was enough to make you bleed. "Gghh..." your legs have enough strength to keep you standing.

"That's depressing." that voice. The man who said he was free, the man said for you to stop playing hero. "Missed a shot, must be my arm." Clive playfully cracks his gun arm. "Ah, I won't miss this shot." he holds it out, straight at your head and... he drops it to the ground, causing it to disperse in a dark blue aura. "Kidding man, kidding. Oh, what's with that look on your face? Not like she's dead." he shrugs nonchalantly. "She can totally use healing magic, so it's no skin off my nose."

Without hesitation, you pull Cadencia up into a bridal carry. A leap into the air with magic pumped into your legs is enough. The single jump you perform is enough to get over the house and into the forest behind, putting enough distance between the two of you to allow for a run. You sprint as fast as you can. Through the trees, through the open pathway, you come to the river where you once fought Adfor. "Dammit. You've got to be kidding me." you look left and right. Low and behold, just as you were about to leave once more, Clive walks out. "What are you doing here? How did you know where you are?"

"Well I saw you walking out of Vernegard and thought 'Hey, why don't I give him a little test'" he shrugs. "I wanted to see you do some HEROIC THINGS but apparently, that wasn't on your agenda, so I GAVE YOU something to do. I'm a nice guy, aren't I?"

You ignore his chattering mouth to look down at Cadencia. The Summoner was already healing her shoulder as the two of you ran away. Talk about quick action. "Kick... his ass.. Frederick." she pulls herself out of your arms to face the black haired man. "Destroy him, tear him to pieces!" she points to him in red anger. She's obviously annoyed, and she has reason to be. The guy nearly took her shoulder off.

"Cadencia, support. I'm going in!" you crouch down low to the ground. One violent kick against the water and you're flying forward, ready to meet Clive head on. Clive reacts by pulling up his broadsword to block your charging attack. Unlike before, however, your Zweihander appears in a flash rather than taking the second long materialization. Clive's surprise shows on his face, but it's quickly replaced by a psychotic grin.

"UP YOU GO!" the man in black presses hard against your Zweihander, eventually breaking the warring strikes and sending you back a few meters. You flip, landing in the crystal clear water. It splashes up on your face, your clothes. "So how long is it going to take to-" Clive stops talking. His eyes widen, finally showing genuine fear for the first time.

"VOID CANNON!" Cadencia shouts the name of her attack. "... Just kidding. FREDERICK, JUMP!" she smashes the ball into the ground. On her command, you leap into the air. The ball quickly expands out, taking up the entire river. Clive took Cadencia's hit and jumped into the air. "It's not that simple." thousands of tiny, tiny blasts fly up into the air as they all zero in on Clive.

The man smiles as the blasts come straight toward him. He holds out his hand, generating a circular shield in the same manner as you.

>Follow the blasts and strike him with the Zweihander (1d100 + 10)

The sword in your hand glows with a blue energy. Without giving Clive a chance to counter attack, you leap into the air and follow the tiny blasts of energy into the sky. "CLIVE!" the sword, as if it has a mind of its own, forms an arc as it swings forward. Cadencia's magic missiles are almost to Clive. This was your one chance!

"This is EMBARASSING!" Clive sighs. His energy barrier quickly expands outward, easily covering enough space to guard against Cadencia's attacks and then some. The man kicks the barrier straight down at you. It flies forward, quickly overpowering Cadencia's blasts. Your eyes widen. This was it. You couldn't move fast enough.

However, just then. At that crucial moment, you vanish into thin air, reappearing right in front of Cadencia. "I told you I knew that recall spell!"

"Hey, why are you running? You're not finished yet, ARE YOU FAKER?" your opponent pulls out his magnum, ready to fire straight at Cadencia.

>Protect Cadencia until the very end!
>You have to run, now!
>What to do?

either Clive is playing with us and will leave when he is done humiliating us, or Darnell wants to kill us off
right now running will be just as lethal as staying, but we can at least save cadencia

You take in a deep breath. To protect Cadencia, the girl who's been trying to take you home, the girl who's been working her ass off for weeks for your sake. It was time to repay her in kind. "Cadencia, forgive me for this because I just now thought of it." you extend both hands forward, your Zweihander vanishing into thin air. "World Expanse Code... Extend!" the code that was used for the Varian's own launch of the Breaker Cannon was imprinted in the back of your mind. Unlike the Varian's attack, though, Caution signs appeared in a magical circle that appeared around you. "Impose World Law... ABSOLUTE DESTRUCTION!" something clicks in your hand. A field, a very large, a very powerful magic field rips forward, spidering out to cover all the space between you and Clive. "I'm going to bow you to SMITHEREENS!"

"You fucking IDIOT!" Clive lowers the gun, only to stare into the large ball of heat that's gathering in the center of the lake. "CANCEL IT!"

"What are you doing Frederick!" Cadencia walks forward, placing a hand on your back. "How are you using magic- no... that isn't magic. You're literally... overwriting the Starheaven's... power." finally grasping the scope of your power, your summoner shows fear. Anxiety and worry for what's to come next. "Please stop it."

The threads in which you pilot the Varian with extend up your arms, to your shoulders, giving you support for the power needed for such an attack.

>Try and stop it
>Obliterate Clive!
>Shoot it into the sky
>What to do?
>>
Obliterate Clive!
No brakes on the pain train!
>>
If Cadencia said to stop it, she probably has a reason to say so. So stop the spell then while Clive is still stunned, shoot his kneecaps out with your assault rifle.
>>
>>20461258
Both said to stop, so stop.
Failing that, launch into the sky. Let's TRY to keep the island intact.

I doubt we're a strong enough vessel for world orders.
>>
>>20461258
>Try and stop it
And while Clive is distracted, shoot him in the knees.
>>
>>20461258
>Try and stop it
Cadencia told us to and she likely knows what she is talking about. Then surprise attack Clive.
>>
>Shoot it into the sky
DESTROY ALL LUNARIANS
>>
>>20461258
>Shoot it into the sky
>>
Aw man, I thought firing the magic was a bad thing. Looks like Cadencia just freaked and gave us bad info. Too bad, I would have liked to have vaporized Clive.
>>
>>20461455
I thought we voted to stop using that ability.

The blast in your hands fights to break free. It was fighting, fighting to break free. It was energy that you HAD to shoot in one direction or another. "S-shit." you try with all of your might to suppress the energy. It rips at your arms, your legs, and hits you to the core. Suddenly, a combination of pain and exhaustion hits you. You push everything you have into the tips of your fingers, into your whole body. "World Expanse Code... Return: Zero!" the emergency system used to overwrite the Breaker Cannon's firing sequence. The circles that surround the ball of heat quickly turn blue and shrink. They shrink until the ball of heat is no more. You want to use your assault rifle to fire bullets at Clive, but there's nothing you can do now.

Clive stands there, wholley impressed with you for the first time. "Maybe... just maybe I'm wrong about you, Hero." he smiles, closes his eyes and gives you a wave good-bye. "Hahahahaha. I have high hopes for you, Frederick, please, don't let me down~!" he gives a little toodle-loo and off he goes into the darkness of the forest.

Cadencia, still shocked, looks straight at where the ball of energy was. Once she finally calms down, she looks you straight in the eye. "W-what was that? What... are you?"

"Tired. What are you?" you flop into the ground, passing out from the extreme stress put upon your body.

End of Chapter 18
Sorry for my incompetence!
>>
>>20461588
The next time we see Clive, we kill him.
We need to serious the fuck up about our physical conditional and training, and find out how we can get access to more power.
And then we kill Clive.
>>
>>20461588
It's cool, it was a close vote anyway.
>>
>>20461633
We can't kill him yet. We need to find out how he knows Yggdrasil and why the hell he keeps bugging us. Kick his ass though? Yes, we definitely need to do that.
>>
>>20461588
>>20461491
>>20461476
now I'm out of the loop
>>
I think it should be accepted we should NEVER use world order codes outside life/death situations for now.
We are now 2-2 for use-unconscious.
>>
>>20461664
Looks like Darnell started writing before all the votes came in and thus wrote up the fire to the sky ending. After realizing that stopping the magic won, he retconned it.
>>
>>20461666
We only passed out when we tried to stop the shot, we were fine when we fired it. But given the amount of destruction it apparently possesses, I agree that it should only be used for life or death situations.
>>
>>20461653
How about blowing out his kneecaps, cutting his arms off, slashing his eyes out, and then roasting him over a fire until he tells us what we want?

Oh wait, that's what Candice would do.

....We could turn him over to Candice for questioning, then.
>>
>>20461716
It can be family bonding time with Candice. We just tell her she tried to kill Frederick.
>>
>>20461715
I'm mainly making an in character choice.
If you had a multi-feature gun on a mech, and it seemed even aiming the gun shut down the mech after
Would you depend on that weapon?

Not the best analogy, but oh well.
>>
>>20461716
>>20461757
I like this plan.
