Your wings twitch, stretching around your kalak form as you speak to Raziel and Skerghaul.
"Well. . we've got a destination." You say. "Sgragol mountain."
"I will bring my belongings up to Jormungandr." Sker said, bowing low. "Good day, Ishelda."
He tromped off, downstairs, into the tower's cellar.
Once he was gone, Raziel looked up to you.
"Hey, uh. . ." She slowly turned a beet red, and pressed her fingers against one another nervously. "I really like your crest."
>>
>>20495820
"Th-thank you. I was worried it might be too small."
>>
>>20495820
"Oh? Really? I thought it was s-sort of small."
>>
>>20495820
Have we figured how to properly blush as a kalak, by now?
>>
"Th-thank you. I was worried it might be too small." You say, blushing furiously underneath your plumage.
"Did Zeke say that? He's just being a jerk." She said, and gave you a nervous smile. "You look nice."
>>
>>20495889
"N-no, I think he's still out. Kali just said it was small. Thanks."
>>
>>20495889
Kaliel said it was tiny. I don't think she meant it in a bad way.
>>
>>20495889
"N-no. He hasn't seen me in this form since our last adventure two years ago. Kaliel said it was really tiny. We wanted to see what kind of Kalak I turn into."
>>
>>20495889
"I haven't shown Zeke yet. Kaliel and I were trying to figure out what kind of kalak I am."
>>
"N-no. He hasn't seen me in this form since our last adventure two years ago. Kaliel said it was really tiny. We wanted to see what kind of Kalak I turn into."
"And what did she say? You. . don't look like a marble. You're too... well, sharp looking for that, and your beak is hooked."
>>
>>20495937
She didn't know either. We'll have to ask Azariel some time.
>>
>>20495937
"She thinks it's one of the extinct types."
>>
"Not sure, she thought I might be an extinct breed. Do you think that could be it?

Or maybe it's just magic randomness and I'm not any particular breed. Who knows."
>>
"She thinks it's one of the extinct types, but she didn't know either." You say. "Or maybe it's just magic randomness and I'm not any particular breed. We'll have to ask Azariel sometime."
"We'll need to do that when we get closer to the mainland." She said. "I can't summon him across continents."
As you talk, Fellwind, Jeanne, and Zeke are walking through the hall, speaking to one another.
"You can't cast for a few days." Fellwind was saying. "Your tendons are all messed up, and you need to give them some time- it's best if you don't use your hands at all. Stick to just vocal spells."
"Hmph. That limits my repertoire quite a bit." Zeke said. "But I can do that. Or ask Kaliel to fix them. Oh, hello, Ishelda."
"Wow." Jeanne said, grinning. "You can become a bird person too?"
>>
>>20496007
"I can do anything!"
Except accompany that comment with a big grin. Because we have a beak.
>>
>>20496007
"Yep. And thanks to sorcery, I don't even have to acclimate to my new forms!"
>>
>>20496007
"I can do just about anything with magic, even if it should be impossible and doesn't make any sense for me to be able to do so."
>>
>>20496007
Didn't we already do that?
>>
>>20496045
Yeah, but Jeanna wasn't around 2 years ago.
>>
>>20496045
Jeanne's only been with us a couple of days, how would she know we did it once two years ago?
>>
>>20496056
>>20496049
No I mean didn't we already ask Az about the kalak form?
>>
>>20496071
We just asked him if there were white Kalak, and he told us about marbles. If we actually show him the form he might be able to recognise it.
>>
>>20496071
We asked what white kalak were, and he told us about the Marble variant, but we didn't actually show him our form.
>>
>>20496071
We asked about white feathers, but we didn't show him our Kalak form, which turns out to have more differences than just the feathers.
>>
>>20496071
Just about what white plumage meant.
>>
"Yep. I can do just about anything with magic, even if it should be impossible and doesn't make any sense for me to be able to do so."
"That's so cool." She said, beaming.
"Skerghaul told us that we'd go to Sgragol mountain." Fellwind said. "We came by to verify."
"Yeah, we're going there." Raziel said. "The same ogre who funded New Arcturus gave her a key for something up there, I think."
"Right." He said, nodding his head. "Well, then, I'd best go finish up with the ogres. I'll be back before you leave, Ishelda."
"I'm gonna stay here, love." Jeanne said. Fellwind nodded, and took her hand for a moment, before he made his way back to the garrison.
>>
>>20496100
"D'aww. You're cute together."
>>
>>20496100
Ask Jeanne if she wants to try being a Kalak for a little while.
>>
>>20496100
So, punch any minotaurs?
>>
>>20496131
I think we're pretty damn low on magic at the moment. There's no rush, we can make everyone fluffy on the journey to Fluffy Mountain.
>>
>>20496149
Can't we just draw some from the gems on our dress? I don't think we've tapped those yet.
>>
"Does anyone else find it strange seeing the woman that punched a demon to death acting all lovey dovey?"
>>
"D'aww. you're cute together." You say, with a grin only Zeke and Raziel can tell.
She gave you a grin.
"So, did you punch any minotaurs?"
"Well, I thought I was gonna have to." She said. "And then suddenly it rained bright red fire."
"I'm sorry to deprive you of your punching targets." Zeke said, dryly. In response, Jeanne hit him playfully on the shoulder.
"Also, Ishelda, I'm sorry for ruining the robe you made for me." He said, and spread his arm- small charred holes and burn marks sat on his robe, making it charred and rather used. "My spells got a little. . out of hand."
>>
>>20496160
Hmm, true. We should have done that earlier. Now we're in kalak form and the dress is in hammerspace.
>>
>>20496186
Its okay, Zeke. I'm sure I can fix it later.
>>
>>20496186
Hmm. As a punishment we'll have a tea party. It is only fitting.
And if points out can't use teacups, point out magic.
>>
>>20496186
"Don't worry about the robe, or the spell. I am glad you are okay, though. It was quite scary.
And you upset Kaliel."
>>
>>20496192
>>20496160
>'Hammerspace' means that they've been temporarily transfigured into organic material so that it can be shapeshifted as well- it's literally part of your body, so you can still draw from it if you wish.
>>
>>20496186
Wasn't that conjured out of nothing and meant to disappear when it ran out of power? He still has it after 2 years?
>>
>>20496186
I'm more worried about the damage to you than the robe, Zeke.
>>
"Don't worry about the robe, or the spell." You say. "I am glad you're okay, though. It was quite scary. And you upset Kaliel."
His beak gaped open for a few moments.
"Did I? Oh man, I'm so sorry. I have to go talk to her." He said, wings spreading. He looked up to the airship, and started twitching as he prepared to fly up there. "I hope you don't mind if I rush off. What. . what did I do?"
>>
>>20496231
"Apparently her raptor got too close to one of the meteors and was caught in an explosion. It didn't survive.
She doesn't blame you, and she knows she made it to die in battle like that, but she's still pretty sad about losing it."
>>
>>20496231
"Your spell hit Fenrir. She'll probably act like it was nothing, but she's upset."
>>
>>20496231
"I think she was just worried for you, that was a fairly extreme display of magic. Even by our groups standards."
>>
>>20496231
You killed Fenrir. I don't think she blames you, she knows what it's like to go into a <passion> like that, but she's still upset about it of course. And because she knows what it's like she was worried about you as well.
>>
"You killed fenrir." You say, and he freezes. "I don't think she blames you- she knows what it's like to go into a Passion like that, but she's still upset about it, of course. And because she knows what it's like, she was worried about you as well."

He was silent for a moment, and then kicked off with his feet, launching his way upwards as his wings took him up to Jormungandr.
Raziel looked up at him as he left, and you can hardly understand her expression. Jealousy and bitterness, you think you see.
Jeanne just watched him fly.
"If I got turned into one of those, I'd probably havta' learn how to use the wings, wouldn't I?" She asked, and shrugged.
>>
>>20496294
"Yep. Just ask Kristoph about it. He must have tried for hours and still can't. Although it's even hard for proper Kalak."
>>
>>20496294
"I could temporarily transform you into one if you like."
>>
>>20496294
"Maybe. It's much easier to use a new body with sorcery than with traditional magic. Even then, though some kalak are just more suited for flight than others."
>>
>>20496318
>that "though" shouldn't be there.
>>
"I'm not sure, my magic imparts the instincts I need in my new form. I don't know if it would work if I transformed someone else."

To Raz when we have a private moment

"Hey Raz, are you okay? You're still carrying the torch aren't you."
>>
>>20496294
You'd have to learn walking, flying, everything. It doesn't take too long if you're transformed with sorcery though.
>>
"Yep. Just ask Kristoph about it. He must have tried for hours and still can't. Although it's even hard for proper Kalak."
"Except for Zeke, Dariel, and Ishelda." Raziel said. "The three of them have oversized wings. Probably why I couldn't fly." She said, and shrugged. "Me and Zeke ended up in the same egg, and he crushed me while we were growing up."
"It's much easier to use a new body with sorcery than with traditional magic- it imparts the instincts I need in my new form. I don't know if it would work if I transformed someone else. . ." You say.
"Maybe on the ride to wherever we're going." Jeanne said. "Though it would be funny to turn me into a bear or something so I could go poke Rik and see how he reacts."

What about a flying bear?
>>
>>20496360
"Of course, I'll just need to rest a bit before that."
>>
>>20496378
Good question. Let's ask.
>>
>>20496360
Hey Raziel, now that most of the astral fire is gone are you ever going to heal yourself?
>>
"I don't think a bear would get a very funny reaction, he's too used to Sir Grason.

Although..... I bet a crocodile would be hilarious. Do you have those in this world? I haven't seen any since I've been here."
>>
>>20496394

She seems to be happy in her human form so healing her wings hasn't even been an issue for the last 2 years.
>>
"What about a flying bear?" you ask.
"Those would need *massive* wings, though." She said. "I wouldn't even be able to fit inside. Maybe a tiger or something. . ."
"Although..... I bet a crocodile would be hilarious. Do you have those in this world? I haven't seen any since I've been here."
"Crocodile? I've never heard of those. . ."
"They exist here- in the lizardman lands." Raziel said. "Crocodile dung is part of what makes up swamp brew."
>>
>>20496431
"I... I didn't need to know that."
>>
>>20496431
"I didn't need to know that, Raziel. I bet crocodile would scare Fellwind a lot."
>>
>>20496425
Yeah but she was still bitter and jealous at Zeke flying off. Could just be because he's paying attention to Kaliel and not her, but might as well go for the easy to solve problem first.
>>
>>20496431
"I'm going to pretend you didn't say that second part."
>>
"I... I didn't need to know that, Raziel." You say.
"It's how I was able to stop drinking it." She said, and grinned. "I just. . tracked down every ingredient in it. There's a *lot* worse than that in there."
". . .I bet crocodile would scare fellwind a lot." You say. Jeanne chuckles and nods.
"I don't want to distract him while he's working, though, so I'll just make my way back to the ship." She said. "See if I can find any minotaurs on the way to punch." She chuckled, and walked into the tower, leaving you alone with Raziel.
Something occurs to you.
"Hey Raziel, now that most of the astral fire is gone are you ever going to heal yourself?" You ask.
She goes pale. "Uhm. . well. . . eventually."
>>
>>20496501
"I would love to go flying with, Raz."
>>
>>20496501
"What's wrong, Raziel? I saw that look you gave Zeke."
>>
>>20496501
What do you mean?
>>
>>20496431

"Hey Raz, I've been thinking. I know why you kept your human form, It's stronger and has dexterous hands.

But have you ever thought of trying some sort of angel form?

You could have the best of both worlds that way."
>>
>>20496519
>Get Kaliel to design a perfect species - strong, dexterous, fast, high magic potential etc.
>Shapeshift everyone into it
>Start the master race
>>
>>20496457
>Could just be because he's paying attention to Kaliel and not her

That was the impression I got. I think she's still carrying the torch.
>>
>>20496501
What's wrong? I can tell /something/ is bothering you.
>>
>>20496501
WAIT WHAT, EVERY INGREDIENT?

RAZIEL IS NOT BEYOND THE SPACE SQUID'S COMPREHENSION, SHE HAS REACHED ENLIGHTENMENT
>>
>>20496547
Ubermensch Queen?

With her vast armies of perfect warriors sweeping across the worlds in a blitz krieg.

Void Queen can suck it!
>>
"I would love to go flying with you, Raz."
She shook her head, and made her way into the tower.
"What's wrong, Raziel? I saw that look you gave Zeke. You're still carrying the to-"
"I'm not." She said, her voice unnecessarily harsh.
"What's wrong? I can tell *something* is bothering you."
"I. . . I just need some time alone."
>>
>>20496596
Raziel is the space squid.
>>
>>20496623
"O-okay. You know where I am if you want to talk." Time to see what a Kalak frown looks like.
>>
>>20496623
"I...all right." Be just a bit hurt, but understanding.
>>
>>20496623
Well ok, but I really wish you'd talk to me about it.
>>
"I... all right." You say, frowning. "You know where I am if you want to talk."
Before you can react, she hugged you, eyes closed.
"I know." She said, and then made her way into the tower.
Now you're alone, just outside of Bastion. The ground is still charred from Ezekiel's spell this mroning.
>>
"Sorry Raz, I didn't mean to poke a sore spot. Take all the time you need but if you do want to talk... You know I care about you, right?
If you do need someone to talk to I'm here"
>>
>>20496696
Go find a dead minotaur to get a closer look at.
>>
>>20496696
See if we can find what's left of Fen.
>>
>>20496714
Good idea. Know your enemy.

Also, bring Grayson, a dier animals assessment of a dier animal could be useful.
>>
You make your way into the battlefield, your talons crunching through the ash, and the smell of burning fur instantly assails your kalak senses. For a moment, you're glad you're kalak right now, because as a human, the smell would be overpowering. You continue walking, looking for anything. . and then something cracks loudly under your talon. You pull back, and there's but a single bone sitting there, cracked and covered in ash. Your stomach roils. You won't find *anything* useful here, you realize. It's just. . ash and bone. A field of death.
>>
>>20496764
Collect some ash and bone for Raz.

We might get some good information from a summoned spirit.
>>
rolled 90 = 90

>>20496764
Magic it better. A nice field full of wildflowers with a memorial for the battle.
>>
>>20496789
Or one hell of a phantom warrior, for that matter.
>>
>>20496764
Screw this, let's go back to Jormungandr and wait for everyone.
>>
>>20496799
Memorials are for after the war, but it's a nice thought.
>>20496764
Registering my vote for collection of bone.
>>
>>20496799
I think you just turned a field of death into the garden of eden.
>>
>>20496789
This
>>
>>20496807
Memorials are for anything you want to remember. The Ogres will probably make some kind of war memorial after it's over, but this was our first proper battle. Also it gives somewhere for Kaliel to mourn Fenrir without having a funeral.
>>
>>20496839
Let's not do anything about fan without Kaliel's approval.
>>
You take up a single bone, and examine it- a minotaur's horn.
Alone, in the field of ash, you look this way and that. . and you can't find anything of note. But. . this is wrong. What happened here. . You can't make it undone, not yet, but you can keep it from being a blight.

Far above the field, in the tower, Fellwind was looking out at the pure white kalak, sitting in the cratered, pockmarked field of ash and bone. He watched as she knelt down, wings spread, and put a single hand into the ash. .

And he watched as wildflowers and grass sprouted up around the ash, a powerful pulse of magic emanating from the sorceress.
"A monster?" He mumbled. "How could I have ever been so stupid."

The spell complete, you hardly feel any more exhausted at all- the ash itself carried a surprising amount of fuel for the spell, it seemed. You make your way out of the field of grass and flowers, and back toward the tower, and the Jormungandr.
>>
rolled 55 = 55

Rolling to add a blackened and charred stone to the middle of the field to remember those who fell when the first wave broke and to commemorate the violence unleashed on the area, never forget
>>
>>20496854
Well I guess we're just waiting for the seer then.
>>
You froze. and turned back... and held out a single hand. Focusing with your magic, you tear a large chunk of rock out of the ground; it was blackened and charred, and you feel your magic burn as your muscles begin to ache. You turn your back, and go back up the tower.

By the time you get back up to Jormungandr, you see Kaliel in human form, wearing a red singed robe that was much, much too large for her, sitting at the tea table. Leon was sitting there as well, sipping tea alongside her.
"I-ishelda." Kaliel said, giving you a smile.
"Hello." Leon said, with a nod.
>>
>>20496905
"Hello. Why are you wearing Zeke's robe?"
>>
>>20496905
"The robe looks good on you, Kaliel. Hey Leon, you okay?"
>>
*Sit down and pour ourselves some tea*
"Kaliel, is that Zekes cloak?"
>>
>>20496905
So, is everyone okay?
>>
>>20496927
>>20496920
At the tea table and forgot to mention tea...?

What is wrong with you people?
>>
You sit down, and pour yourself some tea- it's hard to act daintily with a beak and talons, but you somehow accomplish it.
"The robe looks good on you, Kaliel." You say.
"Zeke and I. . had a talk." She said. "He gave me his robe... and then Raziel went into her cabin, upset about something. He's talking to her about it now."
"Hey, Leon, you okay?"
"I am, Lady." He said, with another nod. "That was quite an exhilarating battle, I have to admit. Still shaking, even hours later."
>>
"It seems I've upset everyone today."
>>
>>20496963
Those minotaurs are troublesome. Hopefully there won't be too many more battles like that.
>>
"Indeed, fighting a hoard of dier beasts that tower over Oagers is certainly 'exhilarating'.

Yourself and the other knights preformed admirably, you are a credit to you province."
>>
>>20496963
>Raz talking with Zeke
Oh god, where's Grayson. We need to get all the fluffiness we can get right now.
>>
"Those minotaurs are troublesome. Hopefully there won't be too many more battles like that."
"That's. . not what the ogres implied." Leon said. "They implied that they were fighting a losing battle- and if they have more battles like this one, they might just end up on top. But that's just what I saw."
"Indeed, fighting a horde of dire beasts that tower over Ogres is certainly 'exhilarating'. Yourself, and the other knights preformed admirably." You say. "You're a credit to your province."
"Thank you, lady." He said, nodding again. Then he chuckled. "There's no chance you can say that to Lady Cerulean, is there?"
Kaliel pulled her hood up, which all but hung over her entire face. She sipped at her tea, clearly enjoying it and the robe.
>>
>>20497051
"What is it about robes that Kalak like so much? Other than looking really good on you, I mean."
>>
>>20497051
"I can, actually. Would you prefer if I do it now, or when we return to the main continent?"
>>
Did we ever get a robe for ourself, or are we pretty much naked?
>>
>"There's no chance you can say that to Lady Cerulean, is there?"

"Of course, bravery deserves recognition, any leader worth their salt knows that. The High Lady will hear of all your worthy exploits.

Kaliel, perhaps we should get the robe re-sized for you?"
>>
"What is it about robes that Kalak like so much? Other than looking really good on you, I mean."
"We can't really wear clothes." Kaliel said. "Because of our feathers and wings, and we're in a society where every other species in the world wears clothes. Robes are the only thing we can wear, and this one is *really* comfortable and warm."
"Kaliel, perhaps we should get the robe re-sized for you?"
"Of course not." She said. "I'm just as tall as Zeke when I'm in kalak form, and it's comfortable when I'm human, so I don't want to change it."

"I can, actually. Would you prefer if I do it now, or when we return to the main continent?"
"Oh, lady, I was joking." He said, swiftly backpedaling. "I wouldn't dare ask for a commendation."
"Of course, bravery deserves recognition, any leader worth their salt knows that. The High Lady will hear of all your worthy exploits."
"I see." He said, and bowed.
>>
rolled 26 = 26

>>20497115
Well, in that case we should make robes for Raz and Zeke as well. Perhaps they could change their size when they go from human to kalak, or back?

Or do the other anons think this wouldn't be a good idea?
>>
>>20497115
"Well if you're going to wear it as a human we should fix some of those holes."
Look pointedly at the most revealing holes.
>>
>>20497149
Raz has been staying in human form.
Zeke might want a new one.
I think we should also make one for ourself.
>>
rolled 78 = 78

>>20497160
>>20497149
I concur, ours should be purple.
>>
>>20497149
Raz has human cloths but Zeke should need a new one if he gave his to Kaliel.
>>
"Well, if you're going to wear it as a human, we should fix some of those holes." You say. She nods.
"I know. Zeke told me he'd been slowly replacing the conjured version with patches. The entire thing ended up being physical, with patches like this." She said. "He lent me some fabric so I can do it myself. Easier with fingers, though, which is why I'm in this form now."
>>
>>20497197
"Can I help?"
>>
>>20497160
We already have a robe, we made it while… retreating from Belethor last thread. It's white, I believe though.
>>
>>20497197
"I was wondering why it was lasting so long. Do you actually know how to sew or are you going to use magic?"
>>
>>20497197
"I am amazed I never noticed that before."
>>
>>20497221
Dude, she's a surgeon. Of course she knows how to sew.
>>
"I was wondering why it was lasting so long." You say. "I'm amazed I never noticed that before."
"I'm amazed how good he is at sewing." She said. "It might be because his specialty is somatic-heavy, but you can't tell the difference between what's patch and what's not."
"Do you actullay know how to sew, or are you going to use magic?"
"I'm not going to use magic." She said. "Because it's a thing I'm doing for fun, not to get it done."
"Can I help?"
She nodded, and grinned. "Yeah, if you want. Do you know how?"
"I do." You say- your tutors made certain to teach you how, alongside an entire slew of other things.
"Then we can do it on the ride." She said.

Leon just sipped at his tea, looking rather relaxed.
>>
>>20497272
How long is the ride going to take? We'll have to do quite a few things on it.
>>
>>20497272
[x] Summon fluffy wyvern
>>
We should probably boil up some mana tea. We need to recharge.
>>
>>20497272
"Hey Kal, what does a Kalak do when a human would blush? Never managed to figure that one out."
>>
"Hey Kal, what does a kalak do when a human would blush? Never managed to figure that one out." You ask her, as you sit down and brew up some mana tea.
"Uh, the feathers on the cheeks, kinda. . flare out. It makes your whole head look wider." She said, mimicking with her hands. "I, uh, still don't get a lot of human expressions yet, either." She said.

Skerghaul climbs aboard, a massive bag on his shoulder.
"Ishelda, Kariel, Sir Leon." He says, nodding to each in turn. "The third cabin on the left is empty." He told you. "Do you have any problems if I use it?"
>>
>>20497398

>>
Be my guest. Once you're settled in we should discuss the situation.

What you know about the Minotaurs. Anything that might be useful to know about the Ogre magi. Ect.
>>
>>20497398
If you want that one, that's fine.
>>
You giggle a little. "No, that should be fine." You say. "Be my guest."
"Thank you." He said, and set down the bag. "This is for the sgragol. It's full of oats."
He chuckled, and then nodded, and made his way down to his cabin. His horns catch onto the top edge of the stairs belowdeck, and his entire body falls back, as he skids down the stairs.
". . I knew that would happen." You hear him mumble from the darkness below. Leon chuckles, and gets up to go help the ogre to his feet.
"I didn't get anything done with my living armor." Kaliel sighed, laying her head on the table. "Zeke came in to talk to me about Fenrir before I got any work done."

"You do now, though." She said, her voice muffled into your chest. You start to tear up, and the feathers on your face to strange things that you don't know how to recognize.
"When did Zeke become a tiny brown-haired girl?" Fellwind asked, with a grin, as he climbed aboard. Grayson followed him, the massive bear staring at his own feet.
"I'm Kaliel." She huffed back at him.
"Maybe Zeke wanted to be the little girl." Fellwind told you. "That might make sense."
Kaliel fumed in your arms, but didn't respond.

They're also fully aware that, with the exception of the twins, none of them are technically related.

Also, given how much sword practice and physical training Ishelda does would also be fit as hell. She'd have solid abs and her arms would be pretty well muscled.

"Now you're in trouble, Fellwind. If you start running now, you might be able to get away." You say.
Fellwind turns promptly around- and almost walks into Grayson, who is huffing- it sounds like he's laughing.
Grayson rears up on his hind legs, and grabs Fellwind's shoulders, pinning him in place. You didn't even need to *ask* him.

Kaliel extricates herself from your feathery embrace, and then whispers something to herself, grinning- and then touches Fellwind's face.

Fellwind shrinks, his white robe getting larger and more baggy on him. .

And then bright yellow kalak chick fluff puffed out from the top of the hood, alongside a bright orange beak.

"Now you're a little kalak girl." She said. "Have fun!"
Fellwind tried to take a step forward and tripped on his own robe, falling to the ground. Grayson started chuckling, and padded his way over to the flowers, where he lay down as normal.

"Oh, come on, Kaliel. He seems rather miserable being this adorable. Can't we turn him back early? I think he learned his lesson."
"No, don't!" Jeanne said. "Whatever he did, he deserves this."
". . You're so kind to me, Jeanne." Fellwind squeaked, dryly.

"So." Belethor asked, eying Jeanne who was still hugging the yellow kalak chick. "Where is our next destination, if you don't mind me asking?"

Sgragol mountain. And as much as I wish it was purely for fun we're got work to do over there.
>>
"Sgragol mountain." You say. He pulls up his map, and nods.
"Should take about a day." He said. You walk over to the control crystal, tap it with a single talon, and then the ship shuddered, and made it's way west. The airship moving, you check on the Sparrow- and it's following you, as prepared.

You step up to the balcony, and the ogres cheer as you leave, obviously thankful. One ogre, you see, has a chisel and hammer, and approached the blackened stone, ready to get to work.

That done, you nod, and go below deck, approaching Raziel's cabin.
"Remember, Raz." You hear Ezekiel say. "I love you."

He stepped out of her room, his robe missing.
"You should talk to her." He nodded to you, and made his way back to his own cabin.

You knock on Raziel's door, putting the side of your head up to it.
"Raziel?" You ask.
". . Are you taking turns?" She asked. ".. Come in."
You come in, and she's just sitting on the pile of pillows that made up her bed, laying on her back.
"I. . I make a horrible kalak." She said, finally. "A horrible human, too."

She closed her eyes.

Don't sell yourself short, Raziel."
>>
>>20498589
Raz, you're my best friend. If the hustle and bustle of New Arcturus is not what you want I could make some quiet place for you whenever you want some solitude.

But you do fit in, when I came to this world I had lost everything. But I did find a new family, and I count you among them. There's not a single member of my retinue who doesn't care about you.

You being more comfortable as a human doesn't matter to me, what skin somebody wears doesn't define them, what matters is who they are. And you're a good person.
>>
>>20498589
Wave your crest under her face. I know what'll cheer you up...

>>
>>20498589
"It's your city too, Raz. But there's nothing wrong with not really fitting in. I never really 'fit in' back in Arcturus, Marigold and [other cousin] were the closest I had to friends, and I never saw them that often. On top of that, I was the princess with a strange power, which kept everyone else away. But I digress. Raz, I do wish you wouldn't leave, I'd miss you so much, and it just wouldn't be the same."
>>
>>20498589
>>20498646
"If you don't like your feathered form, then just...don't wear it. You don't have to, and nobody is going to force you to."

"While I can't speak for Kalaks as a whole, you make a better human than most humans do. Don't sell yourself short, Raz.You're impressive, and powerful, and wonderful all on your own. You don't NEED the Passion - or the madness that comes with it - to create wonders. Just look at the dragon skull and the city - an entire CITY - that you carved from a hole in the ground. Zeke couldn't have done that. Kal couldn't have either."
>>
"So what if you don't fit in as a kalak." You say, and wrap an arm around her. "You fit in as a person, and that's all that matters."
"Do I? How can I? I don't even know who I am anymore. At least when I was fruitlessly chasing after Zeke, I had a goal."
"You're also a savant necromancer and ritualist, one with scruples at that, a brilliant scholar of the ancient Ogrish civilization, a selfless soul who sacrificed her flight for the good of the world, a mutant, demon and minotaur-slaying hero, a fun drunk, and an excellent friend. Don't sell yourself short, Raziel."
"I stopped drinking." She said. "And. . you heard Kaliel's theory, haven't you? About her 'passion'? About how it's connected to a kalak's connection to their magic. How can I be a savant necromancer if I don't feel the embodiment of necromancy? Even with my totems."
She tossed her staff across the room.
"You don't *need* the Passion - or the madness that comes with it - to create wonders. Just look at the dragon skull and the city - an entire *city* - that you carved from a hole in the ground. Zeke couldn't have done that. Kal couldn't have either."

Something that can be truly yours, rather than shared with someone else. Besides, why should you let your magic tell you who you are through that 'passion?' I'm a sorceror. My talent embodies formless chaos. A sinuous, snaking thing that twists and coils its way around and through the laws of magic, constricting and breaking. Yet I've done great things in the name of law, order, and the good of all, defying that stereotype. What does your magic embody, and what does traditional necromancy embody? She snorted, surprised, and then started giggling.
"If you need something light-hearted, you should go see Fellwind. It's hilarious." You say.
". . What happened to Fellwind?" She asked, sniffling and wiping her eyes, regaining her composure.

"He made fun of Kaliel. Saying anything more would ruin the surprise of it."

Haven't met all the potential waifu/husbando choices yet. Wonder if we'll get d'aww time with Zeke too, I'm personally a fan of him. Think it was mentioned in a previous thread that he's into humans, too.
>>
>>20499040
"He pissed off Kali and she turned him into a little girl. He's so fluffy!"
>>
>>20499038
He made the characters.

>>20499040
"He made fun of Kaliel, and she took revenge."
>>
>>20499040
You have to see it yourself. Suffice to say he poked fun at Kaliel and the results are magnificent.

Now we should both clean up a bit, we both look like sobbing messes.
>>
>>20499066
It was more than a mention, it's why Raziel went into human form in the first place.
>>
"He made fun of Kaliel." You say. "The results are magnificent."
"I have to see this." She said.
"Now, we should both clean up a bit. We both look like sobbing messes."
She nodded, and started washing her face. "You don't need to." She said. "Your form doesn't. . reveal sobbing messes easily."

By the time you and Raziel get back above deck, Fellwind is currently being cuddled by Belethor. "She *is* pretty fuzzy." He said, chuckling. Fellwind's expression only reads 'resigned', and behind you, Raziel starts giggling.
>>
>>20499148
"How many times has she been passed around now?"
Grab her and hand her off to Raziel.
>>
>>20499148
"I know Belethor, isn't Fellwind adorable right now?

Now Raziel hasn't had a turn yet so I think she gets to go next.

How're you holding up Fellwind?"
>>

Belethor is seriously trumping Leon on the husbando scale now, in terms of that rivalry. Spell knight needs to step up his game.

"I know, Belethor. Isn't Fellwind adorable right now? How many times has she been passed around now?"
"All the times." Jeanne said. "The most hilarious time was when Grayson gave her a bear hug."
You grab Fellwind, and sling her to Raziel- Where she promptly turns back into her normal form, accidentally knocking himself and Raziel to the ground.
". . Finally." He said, getting to his feet. He pulled up Raziel, and started brushing off his robe. He turned to Kaliel, who just grinned back up at him.
"How was your stay as the little girl?" She asked.
Fellwind closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.

Jeanne takes Fellwind's hand, and whispers something in his ear- something you can't hear with your dulled kalak sense of sound, and the two of them make their way belowdeck.

"Aww." Raziel said, pouting. "I missed out."
>>
>>20499203
Personally, I don't think Leon has that kind of interest. The only evidence suggesting that is Kristoph's word, which may or may not have been valid at the time - otherwise, Leon doesn't seem that fussed about Ishelda, let alone 'sweet on her'.
>>
>>20499241
"Hmm..."
Look at Belethor thoughtfully.
"Yeah you did..."

But we still haven't got a compliment from Zeke. You have to complete the set.
>>
"Hmm. . ." You say, eying Belethor. "Yeah. . .you did."
He gave you a grin, instantly recognizing your glance- despite the fact that you're Kalak. Strange. "Well, if Miss Kaliel wishes, she can turn me into something." He said. "I'm not one to say no to new experiences."
"It's okay, Raz." You say. "I'm not that fuzzy and my crest is small, but you can still hug me." You say. In response, she hugs you tightly, with a grin.
"Thanks for. . earlier." She said, pulling away.
You nod, and closing your eyes, you release the shapeshift, turning yourself into a human being once more.
>>
>>20499331
Zeke likes human girls. It's one of his quirks.
>>
>>20499241
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get another chance. But I did promise you tea."
>>
>>20499338
"Well, tea first and then the preparations for the ritual?"
>>
>>20499331
We can just ask him what he thought later. Wonder what his thoughts are on DTC?
>>
>>20499345
He can still tell when a kalak is pretty.

We should try out Ogre form some time. When in Rome and all that.
>>
>>20499338
That is quite admirable Belethor, perhaps later. If we start having Kaliel transform people willynilly then we won't ever get any work done.

Me and Kaliel are going to have some tea, would you care to join us?
>>

How much magic do we have left? Time for tea with the boys. I want to see them interact.

Right. Me and Raziel are going to have some tea.
>>
"That's quite admirable, Belethor, perhaps later. If we start having Kaliel transform people willy-nilly, then we won't ever get any work done."
"Of course." He responded.

"Well, tea first, and then the preparations for the ritual?"
"No preparations required." She said. "It's still set up from when I did the ritual for you."
"So. . just tea then." Kaliel said. "Business as usual, from what Raz's told me."

Belethor grinned. "Yes, of course- getting work done." He said.
>>
>>20499454
We should check in on Zeke now. We spend too little time with him anyway.
>>
>>20499454
"It's amazing how much work you can get done over a cup of tea.

Currently we're en route to our location. Nobody tells you this, but 80% of being a hero is travel time."

After tea we should call up Marigold and see how our Kingdom is doing.
>>
"Now, Belethor. Tea is essential. Besides, tea distracts only those of us drinking. Shapeshifting shenanigans distract everybody."
>>
>>20499454
Tea is important! Tea time is a big thing in arcturus.
>>
>>20499494
I'm sure we can call her during tea.
>>
>>20499454
Raise an eyebrow at him
"Well if you aren't busy having tea then I suppose Kaliel can get more practice in."
>>
"Tea is important! Tea time is a big thing in Arcturus."
"Oh, of course it is." He said. "Mostly because it's labelled Galadriel's Light." He said. "Which probably means that whatever the tea enhances or helps your power. I'm. . curious what it does to mine." He said. "Do you mind if I join you?"
>>
>>20499541
"Of course not! Tea for everybody!"
>>
>>20499541
Ask Raz if she's okay with it. It's supposed to be giiiiiiiirltime, after all.
>>
>>20499541
"If Raziel doesn't mind. There are many other varieties of tea, mana tea is simply the most practical."
>>
>>20499541
"Of course not. Grayson, Leon, would you like to join as well?"
>>
>>20499541
I would never deny somebody tea, that would be cruel.
The mana tea just recharges you if you've used up your power so I don't think it will help you. But it's still delicious.
>>
>>20499541
"Certainly. It's basically residual magic in a cup."

Explain the concept as we brew and pour it for him.

"Whenever I cast a spell, any sort of spell, it uses up my energy. Whenever I deplete my energy, my reserve of energy grows. I have various ways to restore that energy, just resting for long enough will do it, but with the size of my magical reserves that takes days. You'll notice several gemstones on my outfits, none of which are purely decorative. I store excess magic in them, so that when I run low I can take more. I'm also capable of taking magic directly from the ship's power supply - though if I'm not careful I'll take too much and crash it, so I don't do that much anymore.

But by far my most favorite method of regenerating my magic reserves, is the tea. Galadriel's Light is a plant that converts sunlight, which it turns out contains trace amounts of astral fire, directly into magic."
>>
>>20499541
If Raziel is agreeable to the suggestion of course.

There are a great number of varieties of tea that I enjoy, this one which I call "Mana Tea" is made from the petals of the flowers aboard the ship, the same flowers that power it. You didn't think they were just for decoration did you?

Perhaps later tonight I can introduce you to a different variety of tea, it's called "Swamp Brew".
>>
"You okay with it?"
Raziel shrugged. "I don't mind." She said.
"Grayson, Leon, would you like to join as well?"
"Of course, lady." Leon said, and took a seat. Grayson harrumphed. . and then turned to Kaliel.
"Please turn me into a man-thing." He said. Kaliel looked to the bear, then back to her hands.
"I'm. . not sure if I have enough magic to turn someone so huge into something so tiny." She said.. . and then touched her hand against his haunch.
Grayson twitched, and then shrunk, becoming a young, scruffy man in a brown tunic, and a pierced ear, with the silver communication embedded in it. He shifted his hat, and then took a seat, leaning forward on the table, eyes half-lidded.

"Whenever I cast a spell, any sort of spell, it uses up my energy. Whenever I deplete my energy, my reserve of energy grows. I have various ways to restore that energy, just resting for long enough will do it, but with the size of my magical reserves that takes days. "But by far my most favorite method of regenerating my magic reserves, is the tea. Galadriel's Light is a plant that converts sunlight directly into magic."
"Which means that the petals itself store this magic power, so when you steep it. . it probably turns the heat from the tea itself into more magic. Better than just. . snorting the petals, I suppose." He said, thinking.
>>
>>20499609
Dang, did we forget to ask kaliel? She can of course join us.
>>
>>20499609
"hmm... That would probably work for fast energy. It wouldn't be nearly as fun as tea though."
>>
>>20499609
Well yes, snorting the petals wouldn't be at all dignified.
>>
>>20499609
By the way, is SORC always going to run longer than 6 hours from now on? Doesn't really fit my schedule that well, although I'm happy we get more done per session.
>>
>>20499609
Snorting them would be unladylike of me. As a queen it simply wouldn't do for me not to be dignified.

Speaking of tea, Belethor would your mother be willing to have tea with me once we're done with this saving the world business. I think she might enjoy being able to talk freely with someone over some tea and cake.
>>
>>20499541
How does he know what gladriels light even is? I thought it was kept secret by the elves until recently. Balethor is so suspicious.
>>
>>20499693
It's been exported for two years now.
>>
>>20499693
All he knew was that it was something to do with magic. Maybe he just knows who Galadriel is.
>>
>>20499693
It said "Galadriel's Light" on the tin we keep the loose leaf tea in. It's been 2 years since then. And Belethor is rather clever and adept at lateral thinking.
>>
>>20499609
>>20499693
And now your telling him all our combat tricks? If he turns on us were fucked.
>>
"Hmm... That would probably work for fast energy. It wouldn't be nearly as fun as tea though." You say, serving everybody.
"Eating it would probably be better than that, though." He said, and warily took a sip. Nothing in particular happened to him. ". . Rather underwhelming."
"You could always try Swamp Brew. That makes for an interesting experience." Raziel said. "We have a cask onboard."
"I might try some." Grayson said- you notice that his teeth are pointed, unlike last time he was in human form. Odd. "Last time I had some, I saw a dire serpent bind to Ishy."
>>
>>20499723
He has no magic power. If he turns on us we float ten feet up and zap him.
>>
>>20499735
"Ishy?"
>>
>>20499735
"You mean my soul fire?"
Draw the snake out.

Don't draw the snake out at the frigging table.
>>
>>20499770
It's not a huge, disruptive thing.
>>
>>20499735
Dire serpent? I thought that was a manifestation of my soul or something.

Why not? It's harmless.
>>
>>20499735
"Is that what happened? I think... Eidolon? said it was Ghujj's talent."
>>
>>20499735
Splutter a bit
"I-Ishy?"
>>
>>20499750
Second.

Also, show him the serpent tattoo thing, but don't tell him it can move, we can surprise him with it when we duel.
>>
>>20499750
He's allowed to call us Ishy, he's Grayson.

>>20499735
Oh that, yes. I think it may have been a metaphor.

Everyone, this is Grayson. Please feel free to introduce yourselves formally. I know he's a bear most of the time but he is my oldest and most trusted companion of this world.
>>
>>20499787
Also: "Ishy?"
>>
"I-Ishy?" You ask, spluttering a bit.
"Ishy." He responded. Grayson grinned, showing off his teeth.
"You mean my soul fire?" You ask, and the little serpent unbound from your arm, and drifted up out of your sleeve. You supplement it with a small amount of energy, and it suddenly became visible. Leon raised an eyebrow at it, and Belethor just examined it.
"You call it that, yes." Grayson said. "It's. . not exactly a dire serpent. A . . a dead lizardman gave you his talent. Through shamanistic magic. Swamp brew with ashes. Funeral. Words are hard to use. His talent accepted you like it didn't him."
>>

It was a gift with a price I wish was never paid. But one that I will treasure.

Everybody, I would like to formally introduce Grayson. Prince of the Bears and loyal friend and companion. Also makes an excellent pillow.
>>
>>20499863
The most excellent pillow.
>>
"It was a gift with a price I wish I was never paid. But one that I will treasure."
"Talents are. . . shards." He said, shrugging. You open your mouth to formally introduce Grayson . .and then you go silent, to listen. "Shard of evocation makes you burn things. Shard of divination blinds you and lets you see the future. Shard of enchantment lets you see very far, or control beings with your voice. Shard of dire magic makes you angry and deathless. They all have their own personalities. If they like you, they. . open up. If they don't, they pass along your blood line."
>>
>>20499820
Ghujj was a good person. But what makes it a dire serpent? Talents are talents, not animals.
>>
>>20499895
"... Huh." Glance covertly at Belethor
>>
>>20499895
Interesting. So how could Belethor make friends with his talent?
>>
>>20499820
New goal, steal everyone else's talents. Start with fellwind, he doesn't want his anyway.
>>
>>20499895
Now formally introduce Grayson.
>>
>>20499895
Interesting. Belethor's blood line has two major talents in it, that of evocation and control of the elements via his father, the talent his brothers have shown, but his mother has a shard of enchantment.

Can you tell which he would have inherited and how to get it to like you?
>>
"... huh." You say, and give Belethor a glance. He isn't even looking at Grayson. He's examining the serpent.
"I see." He said, finally. "Then, according to my brother's talents. . whatever I have is evocation. Or Enchantment, based on my mother."
Grayson shrugged, and leaned back in his chair.
"Everybody, I would like to formally introduce Grayson. Prince of the Bears and loyal friend and companion. Also makes an excellent pillow."
"Also likes sleeping, berries, and sunlight." Grayson said, staring straight upwards.
"Prince?" Belethor asked.
"Just a human word. No court, no kingdom. So no, not mostly." Grayson added. "But close enough."
"Can you tell which he would have inherited and how to get it to like him?" You ask Grayson. He harrumphs, and shrugs again.
>>
>>20499972
Harrumph back at Grayson, enjoy our tea, then start helping Kaliel with her sewing. We can dod that at the table, right?
>>
>>20499972
"Well fine."

Pour some tea.

Grayson seems to be showing off. Intimidating Leon and balethor perhaps? Testing them as candidates?
>>
>>20499972
"He harrumphs a lot. You get used to it." Harrumph back at Grayson

"As for unlocking Talents I'm not an expert on it. In Kristoph's case it seems to be attuned to some aspect of Knightly honor. If you have a genealogy Belethor you could perhaps see along both lines of your family where Talents skipped a generation and what character traits those who had them possessed. It could be from either side of your family."
>>
You harrumph back at Grayson, and he starts chuckling, eyes still half-lidded.
"Well, fine." You say. Grayson promptly leans back too much, and tips the chair and himself backward, away from the table. He didn't seem to care.
"We should probably work on my robe, I suppose." Kaliel said. "And then the living armor. I'm tempted to use you for that, Ishelda, because feathers will mess with the design too much and make it uncomfortable. It needs to be skin-tight."
>>
>>20500061
"Kinky."
<Grayson, are you alright?>
>>
>>20500061
Blush.
"L-let us do the robe first. Okay?"
>>
>>20500061
I'm flattered by your offer Kaliel. Will I be allowed to make my own modifications to integrate my queenly garb, mana crystals, and other assorted things?

Grayson, you've lived with me long enough to know that you are not exhibiting proper manners. Sit your chair down properly and sit up straight.
>>
>>20500061
"I wouldn't mind helping with that."
>>
>>20500087
Yeah, it's Grayson. He deserves some leeway for all those times we used him as a pillow.
>>
"Grayson, are you alright?" You ask him, leaning over the edge of the table. He grins at you.
"Ground is soft." He said. "I'm fine."

That settled, you turn back to Kaliel.
"L-let's do the robe first. Okay?"
"Of course." She said. "The armor will take days. Maybe weeks."
She gave you a smile, and took off Zeke's robe, stretching it out along the table. As you examine it closer, you see that it's abnormally thick, and made of identically-colored red patches. Just from examining it, you can tell that Zeke's. . extraordinarily good at sewing, it seems, or he did it with magic.
"I have some cloth and threads here. . " She said, and the squirrel leapt out of it, climbing down to Grayson. Grayson took it in hand as it chittered at him.
The two of you, with Leon, Belethor, and Raziel in attendance, get to work on repairing the charred robe.

>Dun dun dun!
>To Be Continued...
Not really.
>>
>>20501174
Exactly. If I did something like this because I needed a cliffhanger, then I'd need to figure out why the robe went haywire, why it spoke, and *how* it did, and who's behind it. It's be throwing something brand new into the mix that I don't know how it'll mess with my overarching plot.

Leon didn't do a very good job as Kristoph's squire if he didn't carry his burdens. And he did do a good job, because he got knighted.
>>
>>20501432
He wasn't Kristoph's squire. Both of them served under the same knight at different times.
>>
>>20501466
I'm sure they had reunions.
>>
>>20501432
>>20501466
>>20501678
They were both squired by the same man- Kristoph was soon to be knighted when Leon was initially squired. They met that way, became friends, and then Kris ended up as a pseudo older brother figure, when it came down to it. Even after Kris was knighted, however, they still both stayed in Cerulean City most of the time. It especially helped that their trainer was the kind of person to drop his squires off with the knights and call them 'babysitters', so the two of 'em ended up together more than not.
>>
>>20501763
>the two of 'em ended up together
There you go then. Pink line isn't good enough, you need a new color for people that are already together.
