Sticking her lips through her teeth, Kaliel finished sewing up the final patch on her robe, cutting the small black thread with a small pair of scissors. To one side, still at the table, is Raziel and Grayson, who are both playing with the squirrel- for a moment, you thought Grayson was going to eat the created being, but instead he just grinned with that strange, predatory smile, and started tickling the thing.

Not too far from the table was Leon and Kristoph, who were training against one another- not a true spar, just something to keep from getting rusty.

"There." Kaliel said, a pleased smile on her face. "Maybe next we could fix Grayson's ratty hat."
Defensively, Grayson held his hat.
"I like it like this." He said. "Indicative."

>Tongue through her lips. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote this.
>>

"Well it is quite unique."
>>
>>20508775
Not enough coffee, that's what you were thinking. I could see sorta sucking her lips in in concentration.
>>
>>20508768
See how Zeke is doing, he always takes care of Kal's and Raz's worries, but has nobody to talk to about his own thoughts and fears.
And if the Kalak consider Ishelda family, she should be there for him too.
>>
>>20508775
It was obvious that you meant "tongue through her butthole", it's fine.
>>
"Well, it is quite unique."
"Had it since I can remember." He said, tilting it half over his face, and he leaned back- he kept his balance, this time, keeping the chair on the rear legs.
"I think I'm going to go check on Zeke." You say, and Raziel nods.
"He's probably working on a new robe." She said. "Or into his books."

You get up, and make your way below deck. You hear Grayson ask Kris if he could see the man's two handed sword.

While you walk, through Sker's open door, the ogre says 'It doesn't work like that' to Belethor, who looks rather displeased. Belethor nods to you, and you move on to Zeke's cabin, where you knock on the door.
Ezekiel opens it, and the thick smell of paint wafts into your nose.
"Come in, come in." He said, leaving the door open for you. Stretched across a conjured easel is a long bit of canvas, complete with a painting- A painting of Leon and Belethor's fight, surprisingly. You see a large pile of folded cloth in one corner of the room, and a pile of pillows you assume is Zeke's bed. A small workbench sat on the other corner of the cabin, with a small pile of books set beneath.

"How are you doing, Zeke?" You ask, stepping in. He pulls out a stool and sits in it.
"Well. . " He shrugged. "I've been better. Kaliel put my hands back together after. . what happened, so I can cast again, but I still feel guilty for. . losing control."
"Have you ever had a... Passion before?" You ask, sitting in a chair.
"Never before." He said. "This was the first time. . something like that happened."
>>
>>20508969
"Oh, I thought it was normal for Kalak to have these."
>>
"First I learn you can sew and now I find you can paint too. Clearly we aren't spending enough time together. You're just full of talents I know nothing about."
>>
>>20508969
I don't really know how these things work, but Kaliel said the amount of control you kept was remarkable. As long as you did your best you have nothing to feel guilty about.
>>
"Oh, I thought it was normal for Kalak to have these."
"It's. . not." He said. "Passions are. . they don't make much sense. Some kalak can live for years without being caught up in passion, and then suddenly. . go haywire, like I did, or they can be like Kaliel, and feel the urge reaching up to her every time she casts, to the point where she doesn't even want to anymore."
"I don't really know how these things work, but Kaliel said the amount of control you kept was remarkable. As long as you did your best you have nothing to feel guilty about."
"That's what she said." He said, and frowned for a moment. "But I still do."
"First I learn you can sew and now I find you can paint too. Clearly we aren't spending enough time together. You're just full of talents I know nothing about."
"I can also sing, when I get the desire to." He said, and gave you a slight grin.
>>
>>20509029
"All Kalak can, or it does at least feel that way when I'm one."
Inspect the paining; is he good?
>>
"Clearly you have a talent for the arts, you must let me hear you sing sometime."
>>
"All Kalak can... or it does at least feel that way, when I'm one."
"It comes from our language, mostly." He said. "We're very similar to birds, if you haven't noticed."
You examine his painting of Leon and Belethor closely- it seems rather minimalistic, with just long streams of color and movement. . It's not detailed, and quite blurred, but you get a strong sense of movement from the painting. You look back to Zeke, and the feathers on either side of his beak were flared out- he was nervous, it looked.
"Clearly," You say, "You have a talent for the arts. You must let me hear you sing sometime."
"Sometime, perhaps" He said, shrugging again. "I'm not as good as Neiriel is, though."
>>
Is anyone else thinking Kalak choir?
>>
>>20509103
"And I've never heard Neiriel sing, so if you want to impress me with your singing, you should do it before we see her again. Anyway, we're setting up an academy in New Arcturus, you should definitely visit once our adventure is over. Student or teacher, I'm sure you'd do well in both positions."

Also, see what he's been reading.
>>
>>20509103
Did the talks with the girls go all right?

>>20509136
A single kalak can sing different things in different ranges at the same time anyway.
>>

>"We're very similar to birds, if you haven't noticed."

"Really."
Gasp and stare at him in disbelief.
>>
>>20509157

"And I've never heard Neiriel sing, so if you want to impress me with your singing, you should do it before we see her again. Anyway, we're setting up an academy in New Arcturus, you should definitely visit once our adventure is over. Student or teacher, I'm sure you'd do well in both positions."
"Perhaps." He said, nodding. "It's probably a better job than being the 'royal weathermaster' instead. I'll have to think about it, though. I need to make sure I won't lose control like that again."
"Did the talks with the girls go alright?"
"Well. . the talk with Kaliel went fine. But. . " He sighed. "Raziel wouldn't tell me what was wrong."
>>
>>20509184
Well then I shouldn't tell you either. But don't worry, I think I got through to her.
It is a shame though, siblings should be able to talk to each other about stuff like that.
>>
>>20509184
"Well, Raziel's problem is pretty complex, but I think we managed to make some headway. Sorry, I can't tell you more, I think she would prefer to keep it private."
Place a hand on his shoulder.
"Have I ever told you, you're an awesome brother?"
Smile.
>>
"Well, Raziel's problem is pretty complex, but I think we managed to make some headway. Sorry, I can't tell you more, I think she would prefer to keep it private."
"Of course." He said. "I'm not one to press, especially if she's doing better."
You put a hand on his shoulder, and give him a brilliant smile.
"Have I ever told you, you're an awesome brother?"
He was silent for a moment, and his crest twitched.
". . that means a lot to me." He said, quietly. "Thank you."
>>
>>20509249
"Would you mind telling me some more about yourself? I know so little about you. For example, what did you do before we met? What was the first spell you could cast? How long did it take you to learn flying?"
>>
>>20509272
Agreed, we don't know enough about Zeke. He's one of our oldest friends, we should get to know him a bit better.
>>
"Would you mind telling me some more about yourself? I know so little about you. For example, what did you do before we met? What was the first spell you could cast?

"Well, before we met, I actually had very little to do. Spent most of my time in the tower, with Kaliel, Cassiel, and Dariel. Then Uriel stopped checking in, and Azariel couldn't find him. So he told me to go find him- I used some scrying magic with Azariel's Throne to find out where Uriel was, and detected his magic. Found it on an orcish boat, and Cassiel went sea serpent."
He sighed.
"I wish he hadn't died. .but we met there. You know the rest. As for the first spell I cast, it was just a light spell. Like all of us learn. I could probably teach you some actual wizardry, if you wanted. Of course, it'll be nowhere as powerful as sorcery, but. . "
He shrugged.
"How long did it take you to learn flying?" You ask.
"Well, I learned to fly long before Dariel did, even. My wings are larger and my body's thinner than normal, so it was always a lot easier for me. It only took me a few weeks, before I moulted. And after I moulted, I could fly easily."
He frowned.
"And then Raziel moved out to her crypt. I still think that was my fault."
>>

>>
"Your relationships with her seems complicated."
He sighed, and nodded.
"It is." He said. "Even we don't particularly understand it. It's. . hard to explain. It got to the point where I started throwing Force spells at her whenever she arrived."
He frowned. "And before that. . she was the one avoiding me. And now. . it's even stranger."
>>
>>20509446
Well... if you don't mind me asking, how do you feel about her?
>>
>It got to the point where I started throwing Force spells at her whenever she arrived.

*laugh at the memory*

"I remember when we first met. Considering the friction between us at the time I was half convinced we'd become enemies. The best result I could of hoped for was parting ways without one of us dying.... And now I love you both like family and couldn't picture my life without either of you."

*deep heady laugh*
>>
You laugh.
"I remember when we first met. Considering the friction between us at the time I was half convinced we'd become enemies. The best result I could of hoped for was parting ways without one of us dying.... And now I love you both like family and couldn't picture my life without either of you."
"Well, Raz isn't leaving." He said. "I know that much- and I might as well stay, too. So don't worry about it." He said.
"Well... if you don't mind me asking, how do you feel about her?"
He was silent for a few moments. "I care for her, I do. I worry about her well-being. I love her- she's my twin sister, and before we moulted, we spent all of our time together. And then we moulted, I could fly, and she went down to the crypt."

He was silent for a moment.

"I should have visited her. I could've figured out an astral fire ward, with Cass' help. . "

"What's done is done. You can still change the future, though."
>>
>>20509536
"No, from what she's told me, she needed that seclusion. She may be having a hard time readjusting to being around people again, but that sort of thing is to be expected.

If I may offer some advice? The next time you guys are alone together, tell her about everything you think is special about her. Everything you admire about her. Don't tell her I told you to though."
>>
>>20509536
I think we haven't hugged Zeke in a long time, we should rectify that whenever it's appropriate.
>>
"What's done is done." You say, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You can still change the future, though."
He nodded.
"From what she's told me, she needed that seclusion. She may be having a hard time readjusting to being around people again, but that sort of thing is to be expected. May I offer some advice?"
"Of course." He said.
"The next time you guys are alone together, tell her about everything you think is special about her. Everything you admire about her. Don't tell her I told you to though."
He was silent for a moment.
"I may just." He said, and in response, you give him a hug. You see the feathers on the sides of his face flare out- he's blushing.
"Thank you for your advice, Ishelda." He said, patting your head. "Hey, did you want me to teach you some wizardry, or is there something else you needed to do?"
>>
>>20509686
"Learning wizardry was always one of those things I considered doing, but never got around to.

"I'd be honoured. And no, the only reason why I wanted to speak with you, is you. The work you did on that robe was impressive. Would you like me to make you a new one?"
>>
"Perhaps some other time. Actually, I came to ask if you'd like me to conjure you another robe? The work you did on the previous one was impressive."
>>
"I'd be honoured. And no, the only reason why I wanted to speak with you, is you. The work you did on that robe was impressive. Would you like me to make you a new one?"
"While I really liked the one you made for me before, no thank you." He said. "I learned sewing so that I could repair it as it fell apart, and now I'm skilled enough to make myself a new one. Not everything needs to be done with magic. Like the painting." He said, pulling a painting of Raziel out of his desk- she was sitting on a windowsill, in human form, monochrome, with two great blue wings streaming from her back. "If I'd done this with magic, it wouldn't mean anything to me."

>>
"It's... beautiful." You say, awed. "Hey, have.. have you showed that to her?"
"Nope." He said. "I. . rarely show people my paintings. Especially this one. I have more. . but only Grayson's seen most of them."

"I'd strongly suggest you show that one to her."
>>
>>20509840
"I'd love to see them when you're ready to show them to others. You shouldn't hide your talents like that, I think. The magic is impressive, but this is so... beautiful. I'm at a loss for words."
>>
"I strongly suggest you show that one to her."
". . I will." He said.
"And Grayson likes art? I can harrumph at your paintings as well, if you'd like me to."
He chuckled. "No, Grayson's a rather good critic." He said. "He's the one that suggested I brought out the blue in Raziel's wings. And then he posed this one time. . let me find it."

He looked through a small pile of canvas, and pulled out one, where Grayson was standing in a grassy field, rearing on his hind legs, bone carapace covering his flesh, maw wide open in a bellowing roar. In the background was the castle of New Arcturus.
"You shouldn't hide your talents like that, I think. The magic is impressive, but this is so... beautiful. I'm at a loss for words."

"Well. . . go ahead and look through." He said. "I've been. . at this for a long time."

You quickly start looking through them. Most of them are buildings, like the ones in Triune's Gift, an orcish warship, or even Kell, when he was smaller. . . And then you find one splashed with red and brown.

In the Ursae Cathedral, light shined through the glass. rubble was strewn about the ground. The crumpled, battered form of Impulse lay on the ground, alongside Rikar, hilt pointing out of the stone. You see your younger self stare back out at you, hands covered in blood to the elbow, a haunted look in your eyes.

"Whoa." You say, looking for the brick- you can't seem to find it. "So, that's what I must have looked like. You managed to recall it so clearly?"

"It was. . rather vivid." He said. "The only other time I saw something like that was when the demons arrived, and when Kiyara was burned. Go to the next one."
You flip to the next page, and there's you, furious, white sparking flame spraying from your palms and eyes, the demons retreating in pain. You get a fierce sense of satisfaction emanating from the painting of you.
You skip to the next page, and it's just the soulflame snake, ambling about as it does- Somehow, Ezekiel captured the way it seemed to move without actually moving. You skip to the next, and go bright red- It's a nude painting of you, with great white kalak wings springing from your back, covering your most. . private places.
"Ah- well- uhm-" Zeke started stuttering.

It might be a better idea to just let Zeke keep it and let him know not to be ashamed of it, it's wonderful.

Hell, I'd even go so far to say it's classy despite how awkward it's existence is.

"Uhm.. indeed." He said, somewhat awkwardly.
"Frankly," You say. "It's tasteful, even respectful."

You flip to the next page, leaving the one of you in the stack. The next few are sketches of Rikar's various forms, and then one of the Fell. You continue flipping through, but there are few that are more than sketches. At the very back, you see a sketch of Kaliel's human form, grinning widely as her patched up red robe dangled over her face, much too large for her.
"That's . . all I have on board." He said. "There's more at the castle, and my earliest ones are at the tower."

"If you want, I'll show you the next ones when they're finished." He said. "Grayson is helpful and all. . but he's usually a bear."
"Want to give me my first lesson in proper magic?"
"Of course." He said. He reached around you to get under his desk, snatching up a book. He flipped it open, and started skipping through paper.
"Normally, we'd need to spend a few weeks teaching you how to control the arcane energies your body carries... but the fact that you can use your talent at will means that you've already had some training in that."
He flips it open to a page, and shows you a rune- eight curved dashes- four on each side sat inside a circle, with strange words in a strange language above.

"This is the spell symbol for light." He said. "It's . . rather simple. You need to curve your fingers like these lines, and just recite the word above."

You focus, bringing your magic forth, and then curve your fingers. .
"Kee'j'salah." You say, noting the marks that indicate how you're supposed to pronounce the word.

Well it's probably not even possible for this light to fail as hard as the one we did with sorcery.
>>
You focus, and say the word again, with more intensity.

Something. . inside of you, completely alien and foriegn bursts free. Roughly, you attempt to shape it with your mind, but the energy shatters. As you watch, sparks of multi-colored light appear on the walls, flashing wildly.
". . Try it again." He said. "You need to coalesce it in a sphere, like so." He said, and incanted the same word. In the palms of his hand, a small, glistening white sphere appeared.
You focus. . and try it again. The spell wildly tears away from you, the globule of light slamming into- and through- one of the walls, careening off in the distance.
"Well. . you have the energy." He said. "Just not the control. Let's try it again."

By the time the training is done, you'd finally had the light spell. . capable. Half of the time, at least. But you're surprised- no matter how badly it did, it was never as energy-expensive as normal. It seems that wizardry was more efficient than sorcery.

Ell took a step back. "Well. . .I don't think you can get better for now- today, at least. and it's getting dark anyway."

But Control Magic is a signature spell. We're good and practised at that shit.

There'd be no point to learning wizardry if we used our sorcery to pull it off anyway. The only real point of learning wizardry (Other than for fun) is that we can eventually teach others how to use it.
>>
>>20510642
It's still experience at manipulating magical forces.
And I don't see anything wrong with using sorcery to control wizardry as control magic doesn't seem to use up energy.
>>
>>20510677
>It is experience at manipulating magical forces which is why you can cast at *all* rather than having to meditate for weeks, like most wanna-be wizards.

"It feels completely different from sorcery. It also feels more... efficient I suppose. It seems to use less energy for the same task. But then again sorcery doesn't need any somatic or verbal components to work, so..."
"So maybe sorcery uses that energy to. .simulate somatic and verbal components." He said. "Or something."
He shrugged. "I'm going to try to get some sleep." He said. "I want to be at top capability tomorrow- I have a feeling somebody will need some meteors."
You tell him goodnight, and make your way back above deck. .

And Grayson is standing there, sword in hand, bone clashing with steel against Kris's blade. The dire bear chuckles as he pushes against Kris, knocking him to his back, and then whirls about as Leon summons his own sword, clashing bone against conjured blade. Kris pushes himself back up, and Grayson leaps out of the way, grinning wildly as a second bone blade tears out of his palm. He snaps it, and starts trying to spar against both of them at once.

"Ish." He says, giving you a glance with half-lidded eyes. Leon turns to you, and Grayson takes that chance to leg-sweep him, allowing him to focus directly at Kris.
>>
>>20510704
Ask him about the half-lidded eyes. Is he alright?
>>
>>20510704
Haha, sorry for distracting you Leon.
>>
>>20510724
Relax, he's just sleepy/lazy.
>>
>>20510704
"Might we join? I believe I have a score to settle."

Grin wickedly at Leon.
>>
>>20510724
Nah, it's just too much work to open them all the way.

>>20510704
Leon, keep an eye on your opponent. He is still dangerous even in this form.
>>
rolled 71 = 71

>>20510704
Summon Rikar and join the spar unexpectedly.
That was clever, but a cheap shot on Leon.
So let's see how he handles 3 opponents.
>>
"Haha, sorry for distracting you, Leon."
"No problem, lady." He said. He pushed himself up, and summoned his blade again-
Just to take Grayson's boot to the sternum, knocking him back to the ground.
"Sword's loud." Grayson said, dual-weilding bone blades against Kristoph. Finally, Kris just resorts to using his sword like a cleaver, shattering the dire bear's bone blades. In response, Grayson tackled the knight, knocking him over.
"Were I a bear," Grayson said, gloating, straddling on Kris's armor. "You would be mauled."
"I'm. . fully aware." Kristoph said.
Grayson chuckled, and pulled Kristoph to his feet.

"With magic. I coulda' won." Leon said.
"With anti-magic, I coulda' beat him." Kristoph said.
"You agreed to terms." Grayson said. "No talents for you two, talents for me. I won."

Grayson turned to you, and leaned up against Kristoph.
"How was wizardry? Smelled light spells."
>>
>>20510813
"Hard, but a lot of fun to learn."
>>
>>20510813
Tilt head
"What do light spells smell like?"
>>
>>20510853
>Magic
>LaughingGrayson.jpg
>>
"What do light spells smell like?" you ask, and tilt your head.
"Like they do." He said, and shrugged.
"They're hard, but a lot of fun to learn."
"Tch, I remember that." Kaliel said, paper strewn about the tea table. "Boring as hell. 'Zare had me keeping an orb of light in my palms for days, to learn focus. Worth it, though."

Raziel looked up to the sky. "You guys mind clearing the grass? I have to do my ritual."
"Oh, sure." Kristoph said, jerking his head at Leon. The two knights stepped away from the area, and Raziel knelt there, closing her eyes.
>>
>>20510889
Watch with rapt anticipation.
>>
You watch, as she mouths a few spellwords, intensely focused. . and then she just sat there, silently, eyes closed.
Grayson sniffed.
"In the past." Grayson said, and sat back down. "Won't say anything 'til she's back."
Kaliel turned back down to her paper, and conjured an orb of light above it, scratching out more runes onto it.
>>
>>20510935
"What're you working on now, Kali?"
>>
>>20510935
I'm sorry I missed your fight Grayson. From what I saw you did well.

Ruffle his hair in the closest thing we have to petting him.
>>
"I'm sorry I missed your fight, Grayson." You say, and ruffle his hair. "From what I saw, you did well."
He shrugged, and slipped his hat back on, tilting it over his eyes. He leaned back, as usual, and harrumphed.

"What're you working on now, Kali?"
"Living armor." She said. "It's going to be really tricky, because I'm planning to transmute the carapace, and then weave it, and transmute it again. . " She said, and started to mumble, before meeting your eyes. "It turns out I probably won't be able to fit it to you- it'll only work on the one who casts the spell. Me, namely."
She frowned.
"There goes that excuse." Grayson said, grinning, and Kali went bright red, and got very, very focused on her paper.
>>
>>20510935
Prepare a blanket and some tea for her, just in case she doesn't like what she finds.
>>
>>20511018
"It's okay Kaliel. If you ever need me for any other experiments let me know."

Complete ignore any subtext that's been bandied about.
>>
>>20511018
What if you helped me cast the spell? I guess it will be a bit more complicated than a light, but I'll improve.
>>
>>20511018
Giggle a bit.
"It's nice not to be the one blushing. That's rare for me these days, thanks Kal."
>>
"It's nice not to be the one blushing." You say, and giggle a bit. "That's rare for me these days. Thanks, Kal."
"I'll get you back, bear." She responded to Grayson.
"That's nice." He responded, eyes still half-lidded. the corner of his mouth turned up into a lopsided grin, showing off his canine.
"What if you helped me cast the spell? I guess it will be a bit more complicated than a light, but I'll improve."
"There's a reason we train with light first." She said. "It's because if it goes wild, it just throws sparks up, or flings in a random direction. But with something like this. . The growth, the enchantment, the transmutation, the reshaping, the re-transmutation, and then throw more growth on that, and more enchantment? It. . It won't be a good idea. Not to mention, with custom spells like this, you have to keep the right mindset. It's not as simple as twisting your fingers and saying a few words. In the very best case, nobody dies. In the worst case. . ."
She shrugged.
>>
>>20511093
I'll leave it to you then.
>>
>>20511093
Sorcery is just so much easier. Perhaps less efficient but it blessed me with enough mana that I don't really notice.

And Kaliel I wouldn't try getting him back, he will have his revenge no matter what form you place him in. It would be terrifying to see a dire kalak chick suffocating you with fluffiness.
>>
>>20511093
"Just let us know when you cast it. That way we can make sure you'll be alright."
>>
>>20511093
>"That's nice."
He wants to be the little Kalak.
>>
"Sorcery is just so much easier. Perhaps less efficient, but it blessed me with enough mana that I don't really notice." You say. "And Kaliel, I wouldn't try getting him back. He will have his revenge no matter what form you place him in. It would be terrifying to see a dire kalak chick suffocating you with fluffiness."
"I'd just sleep." Grayson said.
"I'd change him into a form that couldn't sleep."
Grayson sat up, putting his hat in his hands. "I apologize, Kaliel, for my misdeeds."
"Forgiven." She said, still scratching at the paper. Finally, she set down her pen, read over what she'd written, and pushed the papers all into a folder.
"Just let us know when you cast it. That way we can make sure you'll be alright."
She flushed, and nodded. "I will." She said.
>>
>>20511217
"That's good."
Time to get comfortable and wait for Raziel to finish her ritual. Or, if we get bore, see what the ogre is doing.
>>
>>20511217
You managed to think of something that dissuaded Grayson from a course of action, that's rather impressive. Usually he only listens to me, and he harrumphs when he doesn't want to anyway.

So, Kristoph, Leon, what brought about the fight that I only caught the end of?
>>
"That's good." You say, and she yawns in response. Absentmindedly, she ruffles your hair.
"I think I'm gonna get some sleep." She said, and looked this way and that, and yawned again, going belowdeck.
"So, Kristoph, Leon, what brought about the fight that I only caught the end of?"
"We were duelling." Kristoph said. "And then Grayson was watching us, and said he could beat both of us. "
"And I did." Grayson responded.

Kaliel came back up, hood up, carrying an armful of blankets. "I thought we could sleep up here, because Raz will get cold like that." She said, wrapping a blanket around her sister.
"Then I get to use a bed that won't break." Grayson said. "Taking yours, Ish."
>>
>>20511366
Blush
"Oh. um... okay. I'll just sleep up here."
>>
>>20511366
Don't be silly, Grayson. You can't sleep on yourself.
>>
>>20511366
"Just like old times,"
>>
>>20511366
Go ahead Grayson, we've shared a bed hundreds of times before.

I'll probably be sleeping on the deck, the stars a beautiful at night aboard the Jormungandr.
>>
>>20511392
This is the best answer.
>>
"Don't be silly, Grayson. You can't sleep on yourself."
"I meant the wood and feathers thing." He said. "With the blanket and pillows."
"Go ahead, Grayson. We've shared a bed hundreds of times before." you say. "I'll probably be sleeping on the deck. The stars are beautiful at night."
Leon looked straight up, at the stars, as Grayson tromped his way down to your cabin, his boots making loud thunk noises as he walked- you think he enjoys the sound.
". . They are." Leon said, after a moment.
"Anyway," Kristoph said. "If you three ladies are going to bed, then we'd best give you your privacy."
"Right." Leon said, and the two of them went below deck.

That's when Raziel's eyes opened, and she took a deep breath.
"I saw it." She said. "She. . She was a necromancer, too."
>>
>>20511500
"That's great!... i hope?"
>>
>>20511500
"Oh? That's interesting. Maybe it's a Talent for necromancy."
>>
>>20511500
"Oh, yes? I hope the rest of what you learned was good."
>>
>>20511500
Really. Is this a good thing? Tell me more, if you want.
>>
"Oh? That's great!" You say. "...I hope?"
"It *is* great." She said, giving you a brilliant grin. "It turns out. . she wrote some of the books I study in. And found the ancestor one. I . . learned a few techniques from her, that I'm going to use someday. Especially with that dragon skull..."
>>
>>20511560
"I'm so happy for you, Raziel? Could you actually talk to your mother?"
>>
>>20511560
"Great! Like what?"
>>
>>20511560
So, what was she like?
>>
>>20511560
"Well that's great! I wonder if there are any powerful Evokers somewhere in your line."
>>
>>20511560
That's wonderful. I'm so happy for you. What was she like.

Now we're going to do something I heard rumors about back home, but was never invited to. It's called a sleepover. I think we're supposed to share blankets and gossip about boys and other girly things.
>>
>>20511579
We already did that with Raz and Mar in thread...42, I think.
>>
>>20511579
We've done sleepovers before.
>>
>>20511560
"What was she like? I've not known many necromancers, just you, really, but you defy the stereotype of the moral-deprived corpsemonger the Provinces seem so terrified by quite nicely. I assume she was the same?"
>>
>>20511560
I hope we're all lying on the deck looking at the stars. Sleepovers!
>>
"I'm so happy for you, Raziel. Could you actually talk to your mother?"
"It was. . only one way, and it was after she read the ancestor book. She thought that her children might . . look backwards, so she had things to say. But those were meant for me and Zeke."
"So, what was she like?"
"Well, she both a necromancer and a oracle," She said. "But she didn't. . She wasn't weak. She knew what she wanted out of life, and shook it by the throat until it gave it to her. And, uh, I found out about my father." She said.
"Oooh?" Kaliel asked, her eyes glimmering in the darkness.
"Azariel." She said. ". . Azariel was my father. It explains why Zeke has onyx in his plumage."
>>
>>20511626
"Oh. I wonder if Azariel knows."

Put those blankets on the ground at look up at the stars. How similar are they to Arcturus proper? Any constellations we recognise?
>>
>>20511626
"Oh my. So Azariel wasn't just a surrogate father all these years? I'm sure you're proud."
>>
>>20511626
"Whoa."
That means he killed his own wife/girlfriend.
>>
>>20511626
"Huh."
>>
>>20511626
"Will you tell Zeke?"
>>
"Oh my. So Azariel wasn't just a surrogate father all these years? I'm sure you're proud."
"He didn't know. Still don't think he does." She said. "She, uh, well, pretty much attacked him while at a bar. I don't think he even remembers it."
She lays back, snuggling inside of her blanket.
"I wish I could've met her." She said, finally. She raised her hand, and it burst into necromantic flame, blazing and pulsing for a moment, as the pure white-blue all but blinds you.
"She ended up imprisoned for being a necromancer. Hid her books inside the prison beforehand, because she was able to scry it. Then Azariel escaped, took everything in the library." She said, and shrugged. "I'm.. I'm in a much better mood than before."
>>
>>20511742
"That's great! You should tell Zeke in the morning, I'm sure he'll want to know."

Set ourselves down behind her and start braiding her hair.
>>
>>20511742
She sounds like a clever woman, I would have loved to meet her. You should tell Zeke, he ought to know. You got necromancy from your mother and he got evocation from Azariel.

I wish I could have known my mother better.

We can brain Raz's hair, Kal can braid ours, and then after that both us and Raz will do Kal's hair until it's perfect.
>>
>>20511742
"That's what I had hoped to hear."
>>
>>20511770
No no, that only works when Kaliel isn't there so we can plead ignorance.
>>
>>20511807
But she has long beautiful hair! Kaliel can braid ours, if she likes.
>>
>>20511807
It only applies sexually in kalak form.
>>
"That's great!" You say. "You should tell Zeke in the morning. I'm sure he'll want to know."
"I will." She said. "He'll be overjoyed to learn that Azariel's our father."
You set yourself up behind her, and pull her hair out of the ponytail, and you start to braid it.
"She sounds like a clever woman." You say. "I would have loved to meet her."
"Uhm. . ." She said- from behind, you can see a blush rising up her cheek. ".. do you mind if I ask what you're doing?"
>>
>>20511849
"Braiding your hair."
straight face, no blush.
>>
>>20511849
"Hm? Oh just hair braiding. It's something Marigold and I always do when we chat in a bed like this."
>>
>>20511742
"You know, Raziel... Maybe this is the key to finding your Passion? This sort of scholarly, slightly detached melancholy? Not gloominess, necessarily, but more a certain sober pensiveness. I mean, I've never seen you make a flame like that before. And you did it with a mere snap of your fingers just now."
>>
>>20511849
Braiding your hair. It's a common girly activity, the point is to make it look pretty and give your hands something to do while you gossip and chat.

You and Kaliel can do mine next.
>>
>>20511849
"Your hair is pretty, so I'm going to braid it."

We're a queen, we take what we want.
>>
>>20511884
Seconding this one.
>>
"Hm? Braiding your hair." You say. "It's something Marigold and I always do when we chat in bed like this." You say.
". . Can I braid your hair, Ishelda?" Kaliel asked, and you nod. She sets herself behind you, and starts working on your hair- peeking over your shoulder to see how you're doing Raziel's, at times.
"Maybe." She said. "I think I'm misunderstanding the very nature of necromancy. I'll have to take a look at my most basic books."
". . .Passion isn't a good thing." Kaliel said. "Not when you can't. . not when you feel it every time you cast, trying to break free."
>>
>>20511918
"Sorcery seems to have a mind of it's own. Always struggling, never turning out quite like I expect it."

We should talk about ourselves some.

also, weave some flowers into her hair. Something red.
>>
>>20511918
Surely it depends on the nature of the magic? Something nice like barrier magic would be fine to let free.
>>
>>20511918
"Mm, I suppose you have a point, Kali. It's just... something Raz was being concerned about earlier."
>>
>>20511918
"Passion seems like a tool, to me. It can be your best friend or your worst enemy. It is the innermost fiber of your being, or the fiber of your magic's being. You can't let it consume you, but it's useful to tap into. If one can control that Passion, without letting it control oneself in turn... Well, I doubt anything could stand in the way of one's ambitions."
>>
>>20511918
Kaliel has a point. Passion is beautiful and powerful, but its dangerous as can be. I understand if you want to find it, want to connect to your magic more, but be careful about it.

It's okay Kel, you have it under control and if you ever need help with it we're here for you.
>>
"Mm, I suppose you have a point, Kali. It's just... something Raz was being concerned about earlier."
"Well, if you haven't felt it by now, then it shouldn't be. . unmanageable." She said.
"Sorcery seems to have a mind of it's own. Always struggling, never turning out quite like I expect it."
"That sounds almost as bad as mine." Kaliel said.
"It's okay, Kal. You have it under control, and if you ever need help with it, we're here for you." You say.
". . Thanks." She said. "Neiriel and Dariel have never been the most. . supporting. Cassiel, though. . "
"Could you make a shell for him?" Raziel suddenly asked, turning back to Kaliel.
"I. . I could, I guess."
"Because if I can get enough of him. . we can do what Ishelda did to Impulse. He died by mundane means, right? Orc blades? I think we can give him True Life."
>>
>>20512037
"That sounds great!"
>>
>>20512037
I suppose, but his body is in pieces in the ocean halfway to orclands. I wouldn't be surprised if it's all been eaten by the fishes by now.
>>
>>20512037
"I- I've honestly had Cassiel on my mind for a while. Uriel was something of a bastard, at times, and I've largely gotten over his accidental death, but Cassiel was an honorable soul from what I've been told. And I had him killed, deliberately, brutalized and dismembered by a dozen blades while in serpent-form, not even able to die in his own skin. Horrible. If there's a way to bring him back to True Life, it's my moral imperative to do all I can to work toward this end, whenever and wherever possible."
>>
>>20512037
"The Heart clensed the Ankh when it became a flower. Maybe we can use that."
>>
>>20512087
>And I had him killed, deliberately, brutalized and dismembered
That makes it sound like we executed him. He attacked the ship and was defeated. The orcs cut him apart before we even realised they were doing it.
>>
>>20512037
"Could we... at least check with him, if he would like to come back?"
>>
>>20512122
It still needs blood, or we'd be using it.
>>
>>20512123
But he was only trying to rescue Uriel, like the bro that he was.

I'm sad.
>>
>>20512139
We actually don't know that. The Heart transferred its well of power to the Ankh, so the Ankh wouldn't require such other sources of power. And it's never been mentioned again, till now. I'd guess it's in a box in New Arcturus somewhere.
>>
"I- I've honestly had Cassiel on my mind for a while. Uriel was something of a bastard, at times, and I've largely gotten over his accidental death, but Cassiel was an honorable soul from what I've been told. and I had him killed. Horrible." You say. "If there's a way to bring him back to True Life, it's my moral imperative to do all I can to work toward this end, whenever and wherever possible."

"It. . won't be easy, though." She said. "First I have to make contact, speak with him a bit, and then bring him back without missing anything. . and Kaliel needs her shell to be *perfect*, and made out of the totem."
"So, if it's bone, I need to figure out a way to transmute it properly."
"Right."
". . the Heart cleansed the ankh when it became a flower." You say. "Maybe we could use that."
Raziel turned to you, and grinned. "If it worked with Uriel, it should work with Cassiel if nothing goes wrong."
"We need to be very, very careful." Kaliel said. "Things can go wrong."
"Of course." Raziel responded. "If worst comes to worst. . we could just take a blood sacrifice. All of the Kalak could spill blood for him, and heal it naturally, and that should have enough for a ritual. . . and we need to check the stars with Gehenna..."
>>
>>20512142
We definitely feel guilty about it, I'm just saying you're going a bit overboard there. We certainly didn't deliberately have him brutally dismembered, and I don't think we'd ever do something like that.
>>
>>20512166
"It's a plan! Kalak family reunion is a go!

But enough of this serious talk, let's do something fun, which usually happens on these sleepovers...

Talk about boys!"
>>
>>20512166
This seems like a project that'll need to take place after we finish on this continent, when we have a short breather in New Arcturus.

But we're girls having a sleepover, we're supposed to gossip about boys. So, Kaliel, has anyone caught your eye?
>>
>>20512154
I definitely asked about using it after it was cleansed, and I'm fairly sure Exabyte said there was still some big disadvantage that made it not worth it, because otherwise I would have advocated Ishelda using it right away.
>>
>>20512196
When we say that, I reckon she's going to be VERY thinkful she's behind us and we're not looking at her.
>>
"This seems like a project that'll need to take place after we finish on this continent." You say. "When we have a short breather in New Arcturus."
"Of course." Raziel said. "First we need to save an entire people all but singlehandedly." She said, grinning.
"But we're girls having a sleepover. We're supposed to gossip about boys." You say. "So, Kaliel, has anyone caught your eye?"
"Well, uh," She said- she sounds uncomfortable. ". . Y-yeah, kind of. B-but it wouldn't be gossiping about boys, would it?"
>>
>>20512279
Blush.
"Y-you like girls?"
>>
>>20512279
"Huh, wh... ooooooh!"
>>
>>20512279
It wouldn't be, now you have to tell us.
>>
>>20512279
hm... oblivious or teasing... I can't decide

"Y-you like Marigold? I know she teases me a lot, but I'm fairly sure she likes guys. She was really into Kristoph when we were travelling."
>>
>>20512279
Damn it... this is quickly entering "Grayson lumbered onto deck to find three exhausted by satisfied female kalak..." territory.
>>
>>20512331
Grayson't probably holding Leon and Balethor back from bursting up here to interrupt.
>>
>>20512279
"I've got to admit I think Jeanne is cute too, but she's involved with Fellwind. And it seems the two are happy together."
>>
>>20512380
Oh YES! This one, I change my vote.
>>
"Y-you like Marigold? I know she teases me a lot, but-"
"It's not Marigold." She said. "I, uh, hardly know Marigold."
"I've got to admit, I think Jeanne is cute too, but she's involved with Fellwind. and it seems the two are happy together." You add, and Kaliel sighs audibly.
"It's you." She said, without hesitation.
She continued braiding your hair.
>>
>>20512418
"I, uh, buh. wha?" Our hands keep going, despite our brain shutting down.
>>
>>20512418
"Oh. OH!"
>>
>>20512418
Meep.

We can't run because she's got our hair, and we shouldn't leave Raziel's hair unfinished.

Alternately.

"I know, I was just teasing."
>>
>>20512418
"Oh I-I don't really know what to say. Thank you? Sorry, I am still quite new at this."
>>
>>20512418
Uh... wow... Um... I don't really know how I'm meant to respond to that.
>>
>>20512450
I'm leaning more towards the second, after all we did just hear Grayson call her out on trying to get us naked.
>>
rolled 32 = 32

Uh, shit, QUICK! SOFT SHOE OUT OF THE ROOM!
"Play me off Grayson!"
>>
>>20512418
"I already guessed as much. I'm not that good at this sort of thing but I'm not blind."

Continue to braid Raz's hair.
>>
"Oh. A few things make a lot more sense now.

...wow, I'm pretty dense, aren't I?"
>>
>>20512418
"Oh! um... I... don't really know how to respond to that..."
>>
>>20512489
Yup, pretty dense.
>>
>>20512517
They should make blast doors out of us.
>>
>>20512418
"Ha. Haa. I... Buh... Wha. K-Kaliel, I like you, as a friend, like I like all my companions, b-but I never... I don't... I mean, we're both girls, a-and... I really don't see any of my companions in a romantic light. I don't even know the first thing about it. I was too busy with magical study to learn about courtly love, back in Arcturus. I'm flattered, but... Oh, I don't know how to feel."
>>

I don't think we should outright reject her like that.

not just because she's my #1 waifu
>>
"O-oh. A few things make a lot more sense, now." You say, continuing to braid Raz's hair. Your cheeks start to redden "Um... I... don't really know how to respond to that..."
"You don't need to." She responded. "I just figured... I didn't want you to think it was someone else, and I couldn't unsay anything. . "
"... wow, I'm pretty dense, aren't I?"
"... A little." She admitted.
Raziel listened to these events take place, and chuckled.
>>
>>20512553
"What do you both think of Leon and Balethor?"
>>
>>20512553
This 'un, while we try to find our brain. >>20512527

>>20512543
Less rejection. More confusion.
>>
>>20512553
If you're going to laugh at our embarrassment you have to contribute. Who are you interested in, Raziel?
>>
>>20512553
Raz, you are by far the last person who gets to chuckle at anyone else about romance and the confusion inherent to it.

In penance you have to gossip along with us, who're you looking at lately?
>>
>>20512553
"It's not like you don't keep blushing around me as well, miss necromancer..."
>>
>>20512577
>This >>20512527
It wasn't a good response before but it doesn't even make any sense now.
>>
"If you're going to laugh at your embarrassment, you have to contribute." You tell Raziel. "In penance, you have to gossip along with us. Who're you looking at lately?"

"Really, I'm not equipped to look at anybody right now." She said. "I need to deal with my own. . problems, before I can think of anything like that. It's why me and Kristoph didn't work out."
>>
>>20512668
You have eyes! Surely you can appreciate some curves.
>>
>>20512668
"Not fair, Raziel! Not fair at all! I need to... To deflect the conversation onto something, anything! Help me out!"
>>
>>20512668
Kristoph told me Leon had eyes for me.
>>
>>20512668
"It's Grayson isn't it? I knew it was Grayson."
>>
>>20512668
Oh, I'm sorry Raz. But I'm not asking what you're looking for, I was asking if there was anyone you were looking at.

You still have eyes and the boys do spend an awful lot of time sparring. Surely you've noticed some of that.
>>
>>20512668
"You liked my crest...."
>>
"Not fair, Raziel! Not fair at all! I need to... To deflect the conversation onto something, anything! Help me out!"
"Why, thank you." Kaliel said dryly, sliding a Galadriel's Light into your hair.
Raziel grinned, and turned around. "Well, I may have my own issues. . but *you* don't." She said. You got a cryptic feeling.
"Who are *your* eyes on?" She asked.
>>
>>20512753
Um...

Well Kristoph said Leon wanted a good word put in for him. And Balethor keeps giving me looks. And Zeke's been drawi- EEP! You're not meant to know about that.
>>
>>20512768
No. Don't out Zeke on his drawing. That's not cool.
>>
>>20512753
"I don't even know. It seems like almost everyone is interested in me, but I don't know who I'm actually interested in!"
>>
>>20512753
"I... I don't really know. There's... There's just so much to do, it seems. I haven't really... really thought about it."
>>
>>20512753
Mumble "fluffy" to yourself.
>>
>>20512753

"I-I-I... I, uhm... Err... I, I don't really think about it. Not much. I mean, Leon and Belethor are both rather nice, and brave, and Leon is virtuous while Belethor is clever. And Zeke, he's smart, and funny, and kind. And Kaliel, you're brilliant, too, while also rather introspective, yet other times playful, and strange in... Interesting ways. B-but I don't think about anyone romantically for these attributes. I don't think so, at least. I mean. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...."
>>
>>20512753
Time to admit defeat.
"To be honest, I think everybody on this ship is attractive in their own way..."
>>
>>20512806
But some are fluffier then others.
>>
This group on the deck is not good at gossiping about boys.
>Kaliel likes girls.
>We can't into sexuality
>Raziel is too emotionally damaged.
>>
>>20512753
Blush furiously, look down.

"Well there's a lot of people who are interested in me. I mean Belethor is charming, witty and clever and has been giving me looks, Kristoph said that Leon liked me. Zeke is just so creative with his art and magic. Grayson is my Grayson but he's handsome when human and fluffy and protective when bear. And then there's Kaliel and she's so cute and I don't know. There's so many people and I don't know if any of what I feel towards any of them is what I'm supposed to go for."

"You'll figure it out." Kaliel said. "You are only. . what, fifty or so?"
"Kal, she's sixteen." Raziel said.
"What?! But she's-"
"Human." Raziel said.
". . Oh. Um. Right. You're only sixteen. You'll. . um, figure it out eventually."
>>
>>20512753
>I may have my own issues. . but *you* don't
Raziel doesn't know us very well, does she?
>>
>>20512829
"And I already told Raz what I think about her, she's wonderful as well."
>>
After flustering and floundering for a bit,
"Honestly, I hadn't really considered it at all until just now. I mean, politically I've considered things and people, but not for an actual relationship."
>>
>>20512845
"One thing I definitely know, is I enjoy spending my time with the two of you. Thanks for coming with me."
>>
>>20512845
I don't have as many years as you. If we were to get married, you'd outlive me by ages.
>>
>>20512864
I have the sneaking suspicion that age won't really matter to Ishelda. Either because of her mother, or because of MAGIC!
>>
>>20512845
I hope I do, it's so much more complicated than saving the world or running a kingdom. What if they get mad because I choose someone else? Or they fight over me? Actually I'd be fine with people dueling and sparring in my name for my favor.

>>20512864
Magic! We could probably prolong our lifespan.
>>
if Ishy ever does have kids, we have to have them in kalak form. That way they'll stay fluffy for AGES.
>>
>>20512845
And then kal felt a little awkward.
Ishelda> Wah, pomf=3

Humans only live so long, Kal.
>>
>>20512845
You've figured it out and you only moulted two years ago! That's nothing for a kalak.
>>
>>20512863
This is good. It should be used.

>>20512864
Not so sure about this one.
>>
>>20512845
"Humans are physically mature at 16, stop growing at around 20-25, and on average live to be about 50. I think I might live a lot longer just because of magic."

(I'm assuming reduced average lifespan due to lack of medical knowledge.)
>>
"I feel like there is just a bunch of voices in my head pulling me in all these directions, oh why can't life simply be a linear story sort of thing."
>>
>>20512888
>I'm assuming reduced average lifespan due to lack of medical knowledge
Who needs medical knowledge when you have healing magic?
>>
>>20512920
True. Up to Exabyte then, correct where necessary.
>>
"Humans only live so long, Kal."
". . My specialty deals with age, you know." She said. "I could figure out how to stretch that to a thousand years or so."
"But you've figured it out, and you only moulted two years ago! That's nothing for a kalak."
"Well. . . I got lucky." She said, and shrugged.
"One thing I definitely know, is I enjoy spending my time with the two of you. Thanks for coming with me."
"Of course I would." Raziel said. "You're the one that pulled me out of my hole in the ground. Metaphorically and literally." She said. "I owe you."
"Well. . I originally came to get away from Sardriel, but. . I'm glad I did." Kaliel added.
>>
>>20512943
Well at the very least, you two can help me deal with Leon and Belethor. Both of them seem to be fighting over me.
>>
>>20512943
"A thousand, huh? That's like, more ten times the norm."
>>
>>20512955
But that's a good thing. We get to watch two handsome fellows get all hot and sweaty in front of us while fighting in our name. What more could a girl want?

>>20512943
Now we have one very important thing left to do, Kaliel's hair. It might not be as long as ours Raziel, but I think we can find something to do with it. How about pigtails?
>>
>>20512955
Screw those two, lesbirds all the way.
>>
>>20512975
Cornrows.
>>
>>20512943
Seems like I could start my own creepy harem with all the people that are expressing interest in me lately.
>>
"A thousand, huh? That's like.. more than ten times the norm."
"The orcish royalty has lived that long." She said. "And orcs age at the same rate as humans. So what they got from accident, I could do on purpose."
"Well, at the very least, you two can help me deal with Leon and Belethor. Both of them seem to be fighting over me."
Raziel chuckled again. "And? What's the problem?" She asked, grinning.
You sigh. "Now, we have one very important thing to do." You say. "Kaliel's hair. It might not be as long as ours, Raziel, but I think we can find something to do with it."
Kaliel grinned. "No worries. I can just make it longer."
She touched her own head, and without saying a single word or making a single somatic component, it got longer.

"Well. . we could put as many flowers in it as possible." Raziel grinned, and took ahold of Kaliel's now-much-longer hair. The two of you got to work.

I don't mind. To be honest, I like the character building.
>>

Don't apologise! These threads have been awesome!

And we havn't even gotten to fluffy wyverns yet, which will surely take up a whole thread on their own.
>>
>>20513034
Although I do wish we were doing slightly more magic shenanigans.
>>
>>20513017
It has been heavy on character interaction and development, but that isn't a bad thing.

But I have one objection, why'd you grow her hair. We could have had adorable mousy red eyed girl with pigtails.

Pretty much, I was planning to mix character development up with Adventuring development, instead of doing a bunch of character development at once like what happened.

But this way we can have EVEN MORE character development later.

Can we cast that everyone must sing everything spell from the other thread tonight?

You could, but it'd probably be immoral, since you're screwing with people's minds.

Let's go dancing with Leon next thread.
