Undead Chasm Civilization game...Round two! Previous thread can be found at http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20501074/ New comers welcome. (i'll try to answer any questions)

ADVENTURE MODE ACTIVIATE! Varien leads a legion of 10 skeletal horrors, 5 acid tearers, 15 ghouls, 10 blood archers, and 25 kobold zombies into the depths. The group is in loose formation, shining light throughout the cave. the cavern that opens into the chasm branches off into two seperat tunnels. one is

an open cave entrance, the other is barred by a stone door depicting some form of cannabalism. Which hall shall we take....

hey spriggan, this is that anon from last night, I think you did well for your first time, and I'd like to take the barred door and research some better tech if we can
>>
The small Army approaches the door. Varien Commands the acid tearers to melt the door. The process takes a while to erode the metal, but eventually the ghouls are able to tear it off. Once inside, the lich examines the surroundings. A long wallway extends in front of them, and they follow it west for a short while. Suddenly, The Corridor Comes to a spiral Staircase. Strange clicking sounds can be heard from the depths, while the upper levels have a grim silence to them. What shall we do?
>>
>>20513963
go down, get us some scorpion undead!
>>
>>20513909
Thanks for name fagging yourself, and welcome back. I'll also be trying to give faster responses while in adventure mode.
>>
Go down the stairs
>>
>>20513984
thanks alot for that, you aren't slow, but we're all just impatient assholes.
>>
The small army descends the steps, Making an aweful lot of sound as the ghouls and horrors clack and stomp on the sandstone steps. The darkness seems to go on forever, but finally the stairwell is reached. The Careved halls abruptly turn into cave walls. The clacking sounnd grows louder, and faint chanting can be heard. How shall we procede? ( battle formations, strategies. etc.)
>>
We should send are stealthy ghouls out and silently scout whats ahead and report back what they saw
>>
>>20514039
put the skeletal horrors up front to use as shock troops, put the ghouls on the sides to form a wedge shape. Have our lich in the middle, popping off as many spells as possible, and use the acid tearers to fill in gaps with liquid hate.
>>
>>20514051
or use ghouls to scout, we can do that too
>>
Varien silently points out their formation. The archers form the rear, surrounded by a troop of kobolds. The ghouls form a tight wedge in front and beside the lich, while acid tearers are placed throughout the mass of undeath. A small scout troop consisting of 6 kobolds is sent ahead of the force as they cautiously make their way deeper into the cave. They follow the chanting noises. Varien signals his minions to halt, and they wait in silence for 4 minutes. 4 kobolds come rushing out of the blackness, causing the archers to nearly fire upon them. When they are questioned, They speak of a Ceremony in the blackness. Many voices could be heard, and the kobolds found the source of the clicks. A mechanism was being breached in an un-assuming section of the cavern. They were not able to get a good look at it though. Another piece of strange news is that they felt another scent in the cave... Something odd. How do we proceed?
>>
>>20514171
investigate the mechanism maybe so that we could see if they were releasing something evil, if we cannot investigate without conflict, kill them all and investigate their corpses
>>
one archer should tie a touch to his arrow fire down the passage to illuminate the proceeding path
>>
Varien grabs a torch being held by a ghoul. The dark lord lights an archers' arrow. The flaming projectile is then fired down one of the branching tunnels... It hits the ground and dowses itself. Another arrow is loosed down a differnet tunnel. 4 arrows yield few results before the fifth is fired. It whistles down a perpendicular tunnel and smacks into the back of a pale beings head. The creature lets out a cry of pain before slumping to the ground. The chanting ends, and white shapes begin pouring through the cave mouth. What shall we do?
>>
>>20514339
stay in formation and try to paralyze them with magic and take them all out, raise their corpses, and ask them what it is they were doing
>>
>>20514368
sam went to get food, so i'll write this one based on your stuff until he gets back.

>>

>>
>>20514392
hey spriggan, I forgot to mention how I liked that you kind of moved the story forward when we were going to stagnate, not really railroading, but it was still a good feeling to have a direction.
>>
The melee troops in front of Varien stand their ground as the waves of pale sprinters approach. When they ar in range, Varien calls for them to crouch. A volley of bone arrows flies into the enemy. The wounded creatures fall to the sides as their healthy brothers continue the charge. The acid teares sob and wail while Varien casts a banshee scream. All but a few of the front lines of attackers falls, demoralized. The skeletal horrors lead a counter charge of their own. The result is a bloodied pulp of bone and flesh. Nearly half of the pale creatures retreat to the mechanism, which is now in torchlight. The survivors seem to be gathered around a shaman of sorts. These creature stand shorter than a man, but taller than a kobold. They carry scythes and sickles, and wear armor of a light amber plate. The have two joints of their knees, large ears, long nose... but curiously. They do not seem to posess eyesight. The shaman has a crudely drawn eye on his forhead, far above where a normal eye would be. What are your commands?

The lines of undead reform, the pale ones make their final stand around the mechanism. Varien launches a Shadow bolt into one of the cowards chests. The being goes into a frenzy, hacking at his friends. Before he is felled, the sickle bearing pale one arcs his weapon into the shamans' neck. He gropes his next,

before coughing up his lifeblood and crashing to the ground. The battle ends quickly. Barrages of arrows and an onslaught of kobolds make quick work of the weakened groups that remain. When the Battle is done, Varien Consumes the souls of the fallen. they rise before him and bow their mutilated bodies. The

final army count after the battle is.... LOSSES: 5 skeletal horrors, 11 ghouls, and a single acid tearer .... GAINS: 37 pale zombies, bloodlet shaman.

The Shaman is interrogated. It is hard to get the questions through becuase of his nearly deafened ears, but soon enough he gives the details on what transpired here before you arrived to cleanse him of life. "We were opening the tomb...To get.....our master... no,no,no. You're the master now! All hail!" The shaman is delerious from the effects of the dark magic, but he is still able to remember how to use the mechanism. It stands about 12 feet tall. A dark grey cylinder, with spiraling cogs going up it's sides in a double helix. Their chanting was the keyword to open this vualt of mystery, and even the shaman did not remember what was buried inside by his ancestors. The chant was "Valar morghulus."

Varien floats back to the chasm, accompanied by a guard of ghouls. They return later with Tyrell, and an additional troop of kobolds. The necromancers apprentice has been busy on the surface it would seem. He has noticed scouts from nazzi scouring the desert. (the hornman city from last part) and the reavers have also a group of naga, slithering into the red wastes, They were seen to be carrying all their posessions and large glass bulbs of water. They are not in the direct path of the Chasm however. The winds are rising, and food is becoming an issue. A large crop of dusk wheat was planted in and around the chasm. These issues can wait though, as the undead begin the chant to open the vault.... The undead join in with the pale zombies, and the gears turn more rapidly. No progress shows immediatley, but after a few minutes of exertion the cylinder slides into the floor. A sarcophagus is in the chamber, a green scroll is lying atop it's cover. How shall we investigate? (civ mode resumes when we go back to the surface.)
>>

A kobold is sent to take the scroll. as soon as he lays his little hand on it, the parchment explodes into a flury of mosquitos. They cover the kobold and attempt to feed. Tyrell steps forward and lights his minion aflame, Taking the mosquito swarm with it. A dark green posion seeps from the insects bodies, but they are attracted into the flame and die before causing further harm. The sarcophagus remains still. What now?
>>
On the nagas, what kind of snake are they? Do they have different races like cobra and pythons?

Another kopbold zombie is sent forth to tap on the lid. There is only silence, and The necromancer and Lich watch with growing impatience. Two ghouls are ordered to unseal the sarcophagus. A perimeter is formed. Ghouls and skeletal horrors line the front, pressed closely around the coffin. Kobolds mass underfoot, while the archers and pale zombies are in the rear with the lich and shaman. Tyrells stands before the coffin, and he presses an iron sword in between the lid and the seal. A hissing noise

escapes into the chamber. When the lid is pried open, a thick haze envelops the room. A voice comes from the darkness. It's tone is calm, but it echoes across the walls and comes scross as icily menacing. "Who has freed me from my own prison?" Tyrell is the first to answer, speaking into the dark fog. "It is I, old one. I give you two options. Serve the dark lord Varien or die and be risen." A harsh laugh echoes through the Cavern. "My, oh my.... Mortals are certainly less chilvalrous than i remember. I refuse your offer, whelp... But i do owe you Gift for freeing me." Suddenly, a dark shape lunges from the fog, clamping its teecth around Tyrells throat. He cries out, but soon his yelling is muffled. Varien Shouts a battle cry, his vile words of necromancy spreading the gas between him and his apprentice. He glimpses the pale ones master, just as he lowers Tyrelll to the ground. A torch is flung by a kobold standing at his feet, and the Smoky being is encased in flame. Maniacal laughter eminates from this vile tmb best, and he flies up to the roof of the cave, allowing himself to be seen. "CAN YOU BEST ME, PETTY DEATH DEALER?" Oh boy, and so it is.

Hmm. Perhaps use the skeletal horrors as a sort of mobile fortification. They have holes in them, so arrows can probably pass through them. Therefore, have archers use them as a barrier between themselves and the dark lord. Kobolds can just act as bait, running around in front, and bottling the acid from the guys in the back.. Lich stands in back with the acid guys, screaming if he gets too close. As the bottles fill with acid, pass them out to the kobolds to use if he swoops down.

Or something like that.
>>

well, tyrell is obviously to be a vampire, I would have our lich cast a paralyzing gaze, have the archers fire, and focus on getting that shaman to invoke some sort of power that may kill this dark lord, other than that, Id have the ghouls work to surround him, while having the skeletal horrors clobber him

Varien calls his skeletal horrors back, and uses them to form cover for his arches. The "old master" Descends, wreathed in terrible flames. He begins to attack the pale ones who were once his minions. Varien grabs the shaman and commands him to attack. Together, they are able to wither down the old beings armor. It is mostly bone and ashe, with Giant spiked canine teeth. They are soaked in Tyrells blood, which is steaming off from the heat. The monsterous fire-lord turns its attention to the necromancer. Sensing the danger, Varien floats past his minions and hoists up the lid from the sarcophagus. the Flames stop just before the metal. The overlord of the underdark screeches in disgust. "Clever rat herder, aren't you?" The onslaught from the army is showing little effect. A ghoul rushes to his masters defense, only to be seared. Another comes up from behind and grabs hold of the lid. The ghoul marches forward and begins to slap the flame being's legs. The creature scrambled to grab onto the lid of his former prison. His skeletal hands seared on the surface, even though the lid was cool. A skeletal horror leaps onto the fire lords back, and a second and third join it. A loud clang echoes through the chamber as the ghastly skull falls into the sercophagus case. A horrible waling escapes before a molten puddle of bonemeal is all that remains... The dark lord found out that the shaman they rose was a journeyman geomancer. They used his prowess to begin construction of a project to conceal the chasm. It will take 2 turns to complete. Tyrell has awoken, and found that the sun causes him extreme pain and steam lifts off of his flesh. He knows from his study of the night creatures that he has contracted hemoplague. (vampirism, because i'm generic as fuck.) The winds rise again, but the shaman is able to keep the sand at bay. He shapes it, and uses it to pack an arched ceiling on his new masters home. The pale ones are put to work planting additional duskwheat, and forming a second ring of spiked tridents once they knock holes in the inner ring. the naga are not sight where they were expected to be... but the tracks seem to veer dead north, into the lushlands. Hornman caravens are patroling the roads once again, and Varien is itching to expand his ranks of the undead.
