"So let me get this straight." a platform overlooking the fields of the Beastkin Settlement is where you stand. There, the girls from the brothel work with one another. They're wearing an attire suitable for the job. "The girls are working to make a living here instead of just using the brothel money to get by?"

"They want to put some 'hair on their chests'... so to speak. I'm a bear, so I HAVE ENOUGH TO GO AROUND! HAhahah!" Albert makes a joke. No one thinks it's funny. Commence the awkward staring at the large grizzly bear bast. "... Not like that, argh."

"Albert, I don't think you should make jokes." Brunstault is the first one to kick the Bast's self-esteem to an all time low.

"Yeah, mate, don't." Beatrix is quick to join in on the beat down.

You really wanna join in on the verbal slaughter, but you have to think about Albert's feelings too!

You let out a light chuckle as if going along with Albert's joke, "Go easy on him, girls. No need to be hard on him. Anyways, where were we?" you turn your eye onto Beatrix, who stands there with a smug grin on her face. "Where are you girls living now?"

"You have eyes there, Freddy?" the dog girl points to the large building near the field. "It's got enough rooms to house all of us. We're near work, so it's all good." she gives you a thumbs up. You give a nod before looking out at the fields again. Sora was out there too, sweating, wearing those work clothes. Wasn't she a bit too young?

"I know what you're thinking." Beatrix almost reads your mind, "I know where you're staring at... Sora, right? She said she wanted to work, I couldn't stop her." she must be trying to suppress her memories of the brothel. The other girl's are probably in a fragile state of mind. Maybe that's why they're all working.

"I see."

"It's good for them, don't you think, Hero? Even if the world is in a hopeless state, if one is willing to push themselves forward, they still have a chance." Brunstault leans over the railing, giving some oddly insightful information.

"Yeah, I agree."

>"Albert, what have you been up to all this time?"

"How are you doing, Beatrix? Oh, and the other girls?"

"Didn't you just ask that?" Beatrix gave an exaggerated sigh before clasping her hands on the railing of the wooden platform. "We're doing fine, we'll be fine for a year or so, until the others want to decide what they'll do. It's going to take some time to get over what that place did to them... I was lucky, though, I was never touched." Beatrix gave a sorry smile. "I take back what I said back then, about you not being able to do anything... you've more than proven yourself to me." Beatrix pulls herself off the rail, and extends a hand. "Put 'er there."

"Heh." you comply with the gesture, returning a powerful handshake of your own to Beatrix. Afterward, the two of you hug and separate soon after. "You've got my respect to, leading these girls into a better future."

"Yeah..." she looks back to the working girls. In the distance, Sora waves to you, smiling brightly. "They're something else, alright... huff." Beatrix recalls how she got to the brothel. A sour expression moves in on that grin of hers.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, nothing, just remembering how I got to the brothel. Not a good bedtime story." she grins before laughing at herself. "Really, it isn't... oh hey, shouldn't you be getting back to your Summoner or whatever?"

"Huh? I think I should be... hey, Brunstault."

"Yes, Frederick?~" the way she said your name tilted the skills of abnormality to an impossible degree.

You stare at her.

"Hero, then?"

"That's better." it wasn't that you disliked the formality, it was just the fact it was so AWKWARD when she said it. Albert pats you on the back once, as if saying good-bye.

"Take care!"

"Hey, Albert, what's up?" you give the bear one last glance before walking toward the stairs. "Oh, right, I wanted to ask you about some stuff." as you say that, Beatrix leaps off the balcony and onto the ground below. She was off to work in the fields, so you wave good-bye to her.

"Huh? What is it, mate?" Albert turns toward you, adjusting the sun-visor over his eyes. He looks kind of funny wearing that, but it was none of your business. Hell, that's not what you were even here for.

"I wanted to ask about Oblivion and Herious. It's been bothering me for a good while now... when I arrived here, Cadencia referred to Herious as Oblivion, because we didn't know its name. Is Oblivion a separate entity than Herious, or was it just a misname?"
"Hmm... there's nothing I can remember that was referred to as 'oblivion', so it's probably just a misname. That all?"
"Yeah, that's all I can think about now. How are you doing, anyway?"
"We've went over this. You got memory problems, bro? Haha- oh right." he realizes his mistake. You simply sigh.
"It's fine."
Albert says he's doing fine, he's just going to stick around and help out these girls until it's time to go. He also says to take care of Brunstault.

You follow Beatrix into the fields after one, quick leap over the balcony. She doesn't talk to you. She just grabs something to work with and, well, uses it. You can't really discern what the tool is, but you move on nonetheless. Wasn't that big of a deal anyway. "Hey, Sora!"

"HERO!" Sora drops her tools on the soil, runs forward and leaps up to hug you. "Thank you so much!" she immediately begins with the gratitude.

"Hey, I did what I had to. Are you taking care of that cape I gave you?" Sora nods, hugging you around the neck. "I'm using it as a blanket, I'll never forget you, never!" It was so adorable you'd probably die of a heart attack.

"How old are you anyway, Sora?"
"I'm... uh.. I can't remember. Ten? Eleven?" the youthful girl turns her head to the side. Brunstault, now taller than Sora by a good bit, walks on over, her tails swaying back and forth. "I-Isn't that the devil fox lady that was with you before?" she lets go of you, now hiding behind your leg.
"I won't bite, little girl, I won't bite." Brunstault kneels down, offering a hand to Sora.

"Don't let her scare you, she's mellowed out. Don't worry about her." you move out of the way so Sora can't keep hiding behind you. The blonde girl cowers. She crouches low to the ground, holding her hands up on her head, shaking. Brunstault smiles, walks over, and pats her head.

"Child, I'm not going to hurt you. I was a bit malicious back then, so I apologize." the fox girl rubs Sora's head, in which Sora... starts to cry. Sora clasps her hand onto Brunstault's, and hugs it.
"My... Mom used to pet my head... just like that... and your hair... and touch... r-remind me o-of.."
Brunstault just smiles wide as she continues to pet Sora. "Ah, I can see why you enjoy doing this to me now, Hero, it feels rather nice to be on the other end."

"Guess it does. You have a way with kids, don't you?" you were being sarcastic.
"When I'm not looking to kill something, I suppose." The more you thought about it, the more Brunstault has changed ever since she's gotten her second tail. Was it because she's grown more accustomed to you?... Maybe.

Brunstault took Sora's hand, and the two talk for a couple of moments. Later, the fox comes back with Sora holding her hand. Sora's no longer crying, either. What did they... talk about?

>"Let's get moving. See you later, Sora, take care."

"See Sora? She's not scary after all, and you two seem to be getting along pretty well. What did you two talk about?" your heart eggs towards 'worry and paranoia' but it's probably nothing major. However, it all vanishes as soon as Sora opens her mouth.

"Oh, we talked about how you want to be a hero and stuff! That's why you're called hero, and.. well.. um..." Sora looks away, as if embarassed.
"What's wrong? What is it?"
"Nothing, idiot!"
"What have you taught this girl." you immediately stand up, looking straight at Brunstault.
"I taught her to be tsundere is all!" Brunstault shrugs. Youths are impressionable. What kind of monster had Brunstault just created. It wasn't important, but still, you were only seeing the deredere part of Sora, and her Tsuntsun was gut-wrenchingly adorable.

"Don't listen to anything Brunstault tells you. She's a bad influence." you pat Sora's head before giving her a hug. "I'll make sure to return soon, I have some work to do before that." you break the embrace, looking up into the sky. The wind grazes on by, almost as if it was an omen. The air became thick, but that was only for a second. Brunstault takes your hand and starts to walk away. Looks like you're going to her house early.

...

Time passes, Brunstault said good-bye to Sora rather hastily, ready to leave. Now, the two of you are in Brunstault's living room. Her house, itself, is a small cabin with two rooms. The 'kitchen' is really small. The cabinets aren't stocked. She must have been away for sometime and never thought to restock her supply of food. She leads you into her bedroom to sit on her bed. You take a seat, she sits right next to you.

Tick. Tock. If there was a clock, it would be doing that. However, Brunstault does the favor of breaking the silence, "I've been thinking, about your world, what it might be like, Hero." she looks at you, smiling softly. "I was wondering if you would be able to take me there... just once, if we ever find a way for you back. I mean, if Cadencia does.... dammit." she's mincing words, probably because she's nervous.

>"Yeah, I'll take you with me. Don't worry about it, Brunstault."

"Sure, I'll take you with me." you fall back onto the bed, arms outstretched to release the stress the day has built up. "If that's what you want, I'll do it. What if you can't come back, though? Aren't you a god of this world? What would happen if you left?"

"I'm a Dwelling God, to be sure. I gain my power from the land and faith, be it ''good or bad'', so if you believe in me, I'll probably still be the same as I am now. Two tails, tall, and still stronger than you." she gives a playful grin. Brunstault falls upon the bed, landing on your arm as her gaze fixes itself back onto you. "Nothing would happen. People stopped believing in me two-thousand years ago, more or less." she gives a sigh. "It won't matter, I'm already forgotten anyway."

"Forgotten?"

"Ah, you see, after our adventures with Asterik were at an end, the inevitable happened. The peace between people became nul, and I was left all alone. My old friends died, unable to fight the monster called death." Brunstault's face becomes sullen as she remembers the distant past. "I curse this immortality, you know... and that's why I made that promise with you that one night."

"Wait..." you recall the talk you had a while back, that night you returned from the brothel and to Vernegard. "I kill you and you kill me?"

The fox god nods, "I meant 'time' too, when I said that, so that we die, we die together." a faint glimmer of hope shows in her eyes. Wait, she wants to die with you...?

"That's my plan, anyway, do you object?" you can already tell by the tone of her voice she's serious.

"Yeah, I do. You said that you felt abandoned and alone before meeting me. You WILL find people you enjoy being around after I'm gone. Plus, I don't like the idea of killing my friends. The answer is no, Brunstault. When I'm gone..." the prospect of death was still scary to you. Closing your eyes forever, leaving everything behind and just vanishing. But, there was one thing that you had to keep thinking about. The life of Cadencia, the girl who summoned you, the one who's helped you and has been trying to find a way back home for you. "I can't die just yet, and you can't either. We each have something to do, something to accomplish." you place a hand on her head, petting her.

"Damn you." Brunstault grits her teeth.
"What's wrong?"

"Just damn you..." Brunstault's shell finally breaks. It's been cracking, little by little, and now it's completely gone. Maybe her talk of death was the final stage? "I can't even have this..." her hand is clasped to her neck. She's clenching it so hard her nails are digging into her palms, causing blood to drip off. "I'm sick of watching the people I meet die... I'm sick of them suffering... and now I'm going to watch the person I love die, without me going with him? I hate it. I HATE IT." she starts to cry. "He's already left me once, and NOW YOU?" Brunstault hits you off with one swipe of her hand. The force behind it knocks you against the wall.
"Gah...!"
"... Huh?" the fox realizes what she's just done. She hit you, with almost enough strength to bust your head open. She slowly stands up from the bed, and looks to her hands. She's shaking, trembling, scared of what's to come.

No time to think, no time to talk, you just do what you think is right and embrace the distressed fox girl. "You really don't seem to get it." for the first time ever, Brunstault is caught off guard. "There's really nothing to think about. The future is scary, yeah, but you don't know what it's going to hold. I may live forever, I may not, you need to stop being so paranoid about it. I'm going to stay with you as long as I can, just because I won't live as long as you doesn't mean I'm abandoning you. It's not a choice." a hand runs through Brunstault's blonde hair. "Everyone has their end, mine just might come sooner than yours."

"... Ha..hahaha..." Brunstault breaks down laughing.

"What is it now?"

"If my gut instinct is correct." you place your hand on Brunstault's second tail, playing with it for only a second. "I think you'll demolish me... but sure, why not? Same as last time though, no murder." Brunstault gives a light nod in response.

...

The two of you leave the village and find a large clearing in the mountain valley. The trees, the lake nearby, the river, it was perfect scenery that was just begging to be destroyed. "Now then, I'll be nice and let you have the first strike." Brunstault beckons you with a single hand. "Come now, make it a good on, HERO!"

Now she was back to calling you that.

"Tch, just keep mocking me why don't you." you summon up your Zweihander and hold it with both hands. What was there to do now?

"Better move FIRST!" you run as fast as you can, putting magical energy into your legs. The fox merely grins as she watches you approach. In her head, she counts down from 10. Once she gets to 0, she's going to make a move.

Ten. The distance between the two of you is halved. Nine. You're almost there! Eight. You swing the Zweihander horizontally at Brunstault's side. The blade digs into her body, but it doesn't penetrate the skin. She's pushed a few feet to the side. She rolls on the ground, stands up, good as new.

Seven. You leap forward, bringing the sword down onto her head. The force of the blow is enough to split the ground where she stands. Brunstault sighs, taking a step back. "Six." she counts out loud.

You leap back a few meters. This entire time the sword had been gathering energy, unnoticed by Brunstault. Well, it's probably noticed now since the blade is now glowing an azure blue. Wait, that's almost the same color as Clive's. "TAKE THIS!" you swing the sword upward and into the sky.

The beam rips into the ground, rapidly pulling itself further toward Brunstault. "Three." she counts off again. The explosion occurs upon impact. It's a large sphere that rips outward, destroying all in its path. Brunstault is sent flying backward, skipping along the ground as craters spring up one after another as she bounces along. She finishes by falling into the river with a large splash. "Ahh... that hurt a bit." Brunstault comes out of the water, her clothes burnt, her stomach charred and her nose bleeding a little bit.

Well, you hurt her at least!

"I suppose it's my turn now, Hero?" Brunstault crouches low to the ground. In the next instant, she kicks off, turning invisible to the naked eye. The magic that flows through your body goes from your sword, into your eyes to put them in tune with Brunstault's speed. You did it against her fight with Alicia, you can do it now. Quickly, you duck the the ground, avoiding a roundhouse kick aimed right at your head. Your right leg moves an inch back, avoiding a powerful stomp from Brunstault's left foot. "Gotten faster, have we?" she increases the speed and power of her attacks. One kick from the sky, a punch from the left, a roundhouse from the right. You pull pivot to avoid the first kick, you preform a backward hand spring to avoid the punch. The roundhouse, you pull your head down, under her leg, and motion your body to follow through with the movement. This all happens in a single second. Your muscles are already screaming in pain, but the assault is not yet over. "SCARLET..." she quickly pulls her arm back.

It starts to glow red.

"HERO ROCKET PUNCH!" you pivot, bringing your hand forward to smash into Brunstault's jaw. Seeing the move, Brunstault shifts her stance ever-so-slightly to escape the route of your punch. Too bad for her. Right behind you, the same techinque you used to light the way to the cave, a blue orb, appears. It smashes into your back so fast, Brunstault can't even track it. You lunge forward at an insane speed, pressing your fist into Brunstault's face.

Blood is drawn. The two-tailed fox god stumbles back, in pain no less, and presses her hand to her nose to stop the bleeding. "My my... hahaha..." she grins, the blood decorating her mouth. "Seems you've improved a bit, but still, the day is still young." Brunstault assumes her battle stance once more.

"Alright, let's do this, Brunstault." the Zweihander reappears in your hands. You were ready to go once more.

A flexible defense was the best offense in this case. Countering, reading Brunstault's attacks as she moves. "Now then, Hero, let's test those eyes of yours." she vanishes once more, moving at a high speed once more. She moves in a straight line, then zig-zags around you before stopping at a vulnerable target: your back.

"NOT THIS TIME!" your elbow as already protruding as you held the Zweihander with both hands. So, the natural counter to an attack from behind? You violently pull the Zweihanderback, which, in turn, causes your elbow to smash intro Brunstault's face as she approaches. The fox grimaces, taking a few steps back.

"That... hurt." she shakes her head to regain her composure. Then, the onslaught continues. She attacks from the sky with a punch, a kick. You dodge the first and then leap back to avoid the second.

Little by little, the battle turns in your favor.

We can focus our energy into an energy shield, but Clive's Magnum can break through it in about 2-3 shots, while ours are blocked completely.
We need to increase our reserve of energy as well as being able to bring out more of it per second.

"Ah, let me show you!" Brunstault leaps back and lands on all fours. She smiles, and then jumps forward, straight at you. You were ready for her this time. The Zweihander vanishes, you prepare for her attack, but it never comes. Wait, she was pushing her speed? "OVER HERE, HERO!" she literally retreated into the forest, and appeared just before you. It was almost like teleportation. One swift kick to the face, a knee to the stomach. You can't move. The force of the attacks keep you immobile.

"One, two, three!" she counts them off. Brunstault knees you in the stomach, punches you in the chin, forcing you into the air. She catches you, performing a downward kick in midair to send you back to the ground.

"Four!" she preforms a scissor chop with both of her hands. Both her right and left arms come in and 'crush' your waist. "Five!" she performs a bacwards handspring, kicking you in the face at the same time as she finishes it off. "Now to end it!" the fox god kicks off the ground, into the air, right above you. "SPIRAL DEVASTATION!" Brunstault spins like a top with one leg out as her body glows a bright red. The kick connects to your back, sending you straight into the ground. However, Brunstault catches you with one hand before you impact. You're hoisted into the air, back curved as you lose all feeling in your body. "Whoops." she drops you lightly onto the ground.

"AGhhhh... ahhhh." you couldn't move. Your defense had been completely shattered.

"I give up... you win. Ouch." the pain coursing through your body was almost enough to mute your speech. "But... hey, did I do better this time?"

Brunstault doesn't a say a word. She only walks over to your body, and picks you up in a bridal carry. "Yes, much. You countered me a few times, you thought about your movements and you weren't reckless. You also learned to see your limits." she gives a light kiss on the forehead before she starts walking toward Vernegard.

"W-wait.. where are we going?"

"Back home."

"I thought your home was.. back there?"

"Nope, my home is where ever you are, Frederick."

"Guh... I see." you can't protest due to the fact that if you oppose the wrath of this fox god, you wouldn't be able to oppose any longer soon after. Your life was precious, after all. "I don't have any objections."

"The sun is still shining, it's around one o'clock in the afternoon, if I'm right." Brunstault just continues to carry you as she strolls along. It's almost embarassing.

You simply fold your hands behind your back, and say nothing. It was time to just enjoy the ride. Your body hurt, yeah, but you weren't in any danger. If something happened to come into your way while Brunstault were carrying you, that thing would most likely be eradicated. As the time passes, you slowly find yourself falling asleep. Brunstault slows down her walk to make sure you're more comfortable. "Good night." she says with a soft voice.

You then allow the sweet embrace of slumber to take over.

A large machine towers over the land, standing at the same height as the legendary machine the Varian. It's eyes give only terror, its hands give only destruction.

"Bet your looking to cause a bit of destruction, aren't you?" Clive places his hand on its foot. "You weren't destroyed after all, were you big guy?" he taps it once.

"How about we go cause a bit of trouble, eh?"
