So in addition to letting newbies get caught up without reading the entire archive, today this summary will also remind everyone else what's been going on, since it's been a week since I had the time to run this thing.

You are Smith Sterling, the Iron Master! EdenTech unveiled a new project dedicated to mass-producing artificial super heroes, along with the first hero to use their suit/serum, Swordsman. Uniting with a number of other super villains, you attempted to destroy the Swordsman Facility in EdenTech headquarters, but ultimately their defenses were too much for you by a hair and you were forced to retreat. With Swordsman rapidly approaching mass production, you made a deal with the terrorist organization Chimera, who set off a bomb in Compton to distract Swordsman and the police and then completed the raid on EdenTech.

Among the many projects looted from EdenTech was Project Bonfire, a chemical weapons project. In order to make sure they could escape without having their skin melted off, Chimera set the bombs in Project Bonfire to go off fifteen minutes after the others, at which point the deadly chemical fog would be unleashed in the middle of the city. In the midst of the operation, Chimera had picked up Rica Rivera, one of your loyal henchmen, who was about to be arrested by the police as part of a distraction you'd orchestrated in Long Beach. Afterwards, Chimera used Rica as a hostage in order to get the stolen data from EdenTech out of you, and when you sent altered (and, thus, useless) data instead, they killed her and cut off contact with you.

Archives aren't necessary to play. That's what summaries are for. But if you want to read them anyway, they can be found here:

The quest runs daily at 14:00, now including Fridays, potentially subject to occasional real life interference.
>>
So how do we play this quest then?
>>
Now to plot the slow and agonizing demise of each and every member of chimera.
>>
>>20568401

You say what you want to do and then I tell you what happens as a result of it. Maybe you had a more specific question?
>>
>>20568425
indeed Chimera will PAY
>>
Wait, they killed her? I had thought they had just decided to kill her. I didn't know we never got a chance to respond.
>>
>>20568458
I had thought we were either going to have our gang raid them, b/c lol GPS. Or sic swordsman on them, b/c again lol gps
>>
Oh, also. In the last thread there was some discussion after I left about using your necromancy science powers to bring Rica back in a robot body. While the Terminators power means that supplying the body isn't going to be hard, the problem is getting her into it in such a way that it actually sticks. While shoving a ghost into a robot is something you can do just by making a Technology roll, the unfortunate reality is that the vast majority of ghosts move on to some unknown fate within three or four weeks, maximum, and those that don't are usually insane and incredibly preoccupied with a single event, person, or location, which they proceed to haunt the shit out of.

Now, there IS a method of prolonging life indefinitely using Necromancy. The Deathless power allows you to store a soul in an inanimate object and then have that object actually hang onto it. Buying the power for Rica wouldn't allow you to use it, however. It's not a cheap power, though. It costs 8 XP which just so happens to be all that you have.
>>
>>20568486

Did you think they were going to strap her into an overly elaborate and easily escapable death trap? She was fifty feet away and all of them have guns. Rica was dead four seconds after they made the decision.
>>
>>20568458
apparently so but we DID seed the good info they wanted of which they did not notice as soon as they move the data it will infect their entire network. Problem is were gonna have to wait for it to happen but when it does who knows how many things we will or learn or the ways we can decide to screw them over and make them pay.
>>
>>20568516

Chimera deleted your data and destroyed the machines it was kept on.
>>
ah so if we purchase that power up we can inject her soul into a terminator. and we can also do that for other minions who prove themselves. A wonderful incentive to serve the iron master well and death is only a temporary problem I vote for it.
>>
>and we can also do that for other minions who prove themselves.

At 8 XP a piece, yes.
>>
While we're on the subject of costumed crimefighting/committing: City of Heroes shuts down in November. RIP.

For real, though, does nobody have a plan? Should I try again tomorrow?
>>
so it costs 8 xp a peice thats pretty damn steep I can understand that for unlocking the tech but per a use............
>>
Is anyone firmiliar with the book "The fall of Hyperion"? I have an idea.
>>
alright I have a plan make another bot like steve this bot will be a ceo of a new company. This company specializes in prosthetics and cybernetic tech. they regularly donate prosthetics and will help advance technology for cybernetics. This will provide us with a shell company do what we want legally without drawing undo attention. as well as create a potential recruiting ground, tech research, and wealth producing. Trully a useful creation whose purposes can change as we see fit.
>>
>>20568712
thats clever
>>
How about we just start abducting Chimera members, augment them and make them sleeper agents then have them go berserk after we have enough of them
>>
I think Rica is worth the 8 XP personally.
>>
the ceo and founder of the company will be a noce guy who believes in advancing tech for the betterment of mankind but who says he cant enjoy life a little on the way when not pouring the money back into the company or so it appears. this gives us the abiltiy to siphon profits for more shadowy activites vey for personal use and invest it back into the company or something else.
>>
You've got one action left for the turn, any plans as to what to use it on?

Oh, also, the chemical weapons back at EdenTech headquarters. You want to try and do anything about those? They're basically guaranteed to kill tens of thousands of people, but none of them are really important to you. You've been playing the anti-villain angle occasionally, so I thought I'd mention it.
>>
after seeing what happend at edentech we will make the company into a fortress and our hate for chimera well this will be how it works in the company. After seeing seeing the atrocities committed and lives lost our ceo felt horrified and obligated to do something. Using the cybernetic tech he has developed he decided to do something. first he secretly creates incentives to go after illegal activity but in particular Chimera. While making plans to invest in and eventually advance robotic technologies after all robots are replacable lives are not. after seeing what happend at edentech despite their security measures and what the iron master is capable of he decides to invest heavily in security.
>>
>>20568896
considering the condition our forces are in we cant do much. But ooh I thought of something fun hack into the cell towers in rangevof the chemical weapons then send a alert to everyone in range courtsy of the metal angel
>>
>>20568896
Spread info about them, make it look like its linked to chimera aswell if thats possible.
>>
>>20568514
Leak the location of their top secret base to a hero anyway, because we are vindictive like that.
>>
the metal angel will be our 'heroic' persona eventually we may wanna consider combining that persona with the shell company in some way.
>>
anything goodish that we wanna seperate from ourselves use the name Metal Angel for such as revealing the location of the Chimera base and alert people that it was chimera who did it.
>>
I think the metal angel thing is a horrible idea. It will take heroes all of five seconds to realize it is us. And why the hell should we hide that its us that leaked the data? Its not like Chimera is likely to be fooled in any case.
>>
>>20569075
if we play the angel card right we can infilterate the heroes and take out competition. First the angel serves as a way to give away good info. earning some trust. Then we move on to the next stage but first we do this.
>>
>>20569143
Except that we have used false identities so many times that any vaguely technological guy is going to come under automatic suspicion. Plus, we already tried masquerading as an angel.
>>
You hack a cell tower and send a call to every phone in range, alerting people that Chimera set chemical weapons found in EdenTech to go off in about six minutes and they need to evacuate downtown LA immediately. Naturally, what ensues is a panicked and chaotic flight which the authorities can't hope to organize into a proper evacuation. Fortunately (for the city, at least) Swordsman arrives at the building and is able to deactivate the bomb in the Project Bonfire lab...However Chimera had also set nearby bombs to blow on a delay in case they would also release the chemical weapons, and they do. These other bombs, which Swordsman was not aware of, cause enough damage to the tower to leak chemicals all over the area, but at a slow enough rate to significantly decrease the casualties caused.

By the end of the day, news reports are putting the total body count at something like two or three thousand, with hospitals overflowing with bystanders affected by the gas.

When the police arrive at the Chimera warehouse with Amp, the Chimera strike troopers are busy lighting the machines with the data you'd sent them on fire. When the police arrive, they open fire and flee to their cloaked aircraft, which pulls out of the warehouse and flies them away. Within the warehouse is nothing of much note. Some weapons and supplies, a pile of burning silicon, and Rica's corpse splayed out on the floor.
>>
>>20569268
well then. Time to call up Rica's ghost.
>>
>>20569268
Wait a second, just Rica? What happened to deadeye?
>>
You step away from the computer and look back towards your Ecto-Reader. The labs sure have changed a lot over the past two and a half months...You've replaced the sparse, bare bulbs hung directly over your workstation with bright fluorescent lightbulbs that keep the entire area well-lit. All the debris left over from construction has been cleared out, the area is littered with dozens of parts and schematics, and occasionally one of the worker drones who help you mass-produce your Terminators will scuttle in to pick up a box full of parts for the assembly line down the hall. You don't have all your gadgets and machines built in this room anymore, as it's much too noisy to concentrate with the cacophony of factory work in the background. Instead you use the workshop as a command center and a laboratory, inventing new devices here before sending them to another room to be replicated. You still keep most of your parts in here, but you've been meaning to get around to having your drones clear out one of the other rooms to use as storage. You wouldn't even have to install any extra lights in there, since your drones all have nightvision.

The Ecto-Reader's changed a little, too, but mostly that's been in the direction of adding more plating to its shell so that turning the power on doesn't give you a concussion. You've done a lot of work in the direction of miniaturizing this thing, but haven't actually done so. Terminators have needed frequent replacement lately and it's not like you can't send the machine's feed to a cell phone anyway.
>>
After punching a few commands into the Ecto-Reader, you're able to summon up Rica's ghost. Being only a few hours dead, she still looks exactly like she did upon her death. Her clothes are scratched and scraped up, and there's still some pads on her clothes, though the interceptor body armor itself was removed to help her breathe and allow the Chimera medic to patch up her bullet wounds. The shirt beneath is stained through with ephemeral blood. Her mask was also removed while she was asleep (she'd never let anyone see her without it as long as you'd known her), revealing a face covered in old scars, a horrifying laticework that seems to be the result of some sort of torture. Or maybe a fuckton of knife fights? The odds of her having so many close calls without ever actually having something vital cut out are basically nil, though. This was done to her intentionally at some point.

Her head also bears one notable wound that's more recent. A tiny, clean hole is punched between her eyes, and the entire back half of her head has been ripped off.

>Anything in particular you wanted to talk to her about?
>>
>>20569432

He basically just hung out on the stealth craft for a while, then left with the Chimera grunts. He wasn't paid to get involved, so he didn't. Chimera employs him frequently, which means that he is very nearly a member of their organization, save only for the fact that he won't fight on their behalf until there's been an actual, official promise of payment.
>>
>>20569680
Are we giving her the soul hidey power? I assume that is only way to bring her back. Plus, she could posses the strike team leader who killed her.
Anyway say: "Rica... there really is no good way to start this conversation is there? The good news is your new condition is reversible. The bad news is its rather expensive. Still, you stood by me when it counted, so I shall stand by you."
>>
>>20569753

What object did you plan on using as her phylactery/horcrux/whatever you want to call it?
>>
>>20569805
Something totally innocuous but hard to destroy. Maybe a metal paperweight of some sort?
>>
some sort of metal gadget maybe?
>>
>>20569987
lets not make it anything anyone would want to mess with. Also, can we outfit our base with turrets like those Eden Tech had? You know, before the congressional investigations into the fact that they stored chemical weapons in a city.
>>
>>20570020
that was brought up even before Eden including energy weapons op decided to have us go against the ideas the anon was bringing up.
>>
turned out to be painfully effective at that but we do have the tech for it now.
>>
we should create something that you wouldn't wanna mess with at all or simply overlook but sturdy don't know what though.
>>
>>20570171
They're heroes its their job to mess with things.
>>
Guess there's no opposition to bringing back Rica, then. I certainly won't complain about getting one of my better developed NPCs back.

Rica's ghost says something in Spanish. You should probably trick out your glasses so they can run your translator program for you, projected on the lenses. She sounds confused, though. Certainly she's asking a lot of questions. Suddenly a look of comprehension crosses her scarred face. "Who are you?" she asks, speaking English now, "where am I? What's going on, why does everything feel so...Empty..."

"Don't worry, Rica, I'm going to fix this," you say, pulling up a paint application to start drawing up the alchemical diagrams you'll need. All the alchemical texts stress how important it is to make sure you draw the containing shape precisely, or else "the demons will escape." If only they could see the work you do with an application. No painstaking drawing process. Drag. Drop. Expand. Done. Also, alchemy has nothing to do with demons, you superstitious blowhards.
>>
"I don't...Where's Jack? Is Jack here?" Rica asks. You've never even heard of him before.

"Just calm down. You'll feel better in a moment, I promise," you say, pulling in a nonagon, dropping some nodes, pasting in sigils.

"I know you..." Rica says, "I can remember...Meeting you. I remember...You saved me, from those backstabbing assholes." You don't see any reason to interrupt, and besides you need to double-check and make sure printer #4 is the one with the onyx dust in it.

"This is your...your workshop, isn't it?" Rica asks, "why'd you bring me here? What even...I feel empty, what happened to me?"

"Nothing permanent," you say, as the printer slowly churns out the symbol, "not with the power of science on our side, anyways." You pull a few various items off of your workbench. A dropper filled with blood, a vial of bone dust, etc. etc.
>>
"Oh, shit, I remember...I remember guns and...And that thing you use to talk to ghosts...No, that's not how this ends," she says. She's actually tearing up a little, starting to panic. You grab a spare part, a mechanical joint from a terminator model you discontinued a while ago. Sturdy, innocuous, and not something that'll ever get accidentally built into a frontline bot by some idiot drone. "I'm not dead," Rica says, ranting more to herself now. "I'm not dead, I can't be dead, not while that bastard's still alive. I said he'd pay and I'm going to make him fucking pay I am not dead." Ah, yes, the ranting. Looks like Rica would've been one of the "go insane and haunt someplace for years" kind of ghosts.

"You fucker, this is what I get for trusting someone for half a second, you got me killed!" Rica is shouting now, but you can tell she's too busy freaking out to put her heart into the accusations. Anyways, you're too busy putting the finishing touches on the diagram. Plenty of time to exchange handmade feeling cards after you've cured death.

Rica's ghost has halfway curled up into a ball now, muttering to herself over and over again "what did you do...What did you do..."

The diagram begins to glow with an otherworldly light. "Rica," you say, "I've just made you the first member of the League of Immortals." Rica lets out an incoherent scream as the diagram's light grows blinding, and her ghostly image dissolves into a fog.
>>
Then, slowly, it reconstructs itself into a more familiar image. Rica, unwounded and masked again. "What the fuck just happened?" she asks, her voice holding more curiosity than anger.

"You've been to Hell and back," you say. "Your soul is now contained in this thing," you hold up the part, "but unless you've always harbored a secret desire to be a robot elbow, you should probably go find a new host to possess. Which, by the way, is a thing you can do now."

"Sure thing, boss," she says, "I'll just go grab some Goblin fucker from the mainland, I know where half of 'em sleep anyway."

Your base is already fortified with turrets. Unfortunately, Project Photon was one of the less heavily guarded databases in the EdenTech labs and Chimera cracked it themselves, so you don't have access to that data and can't upgrade the turrets to laser turrets unless you can find some other way to get the data or a working laser weapon to reverse-engineer.
>>
in that case can we have a list of the data we did steal and what they provide also how about making that shell company?
>>
>>20570453
We should probably call up the Damio and send him a recording of the Chimera folks throwing him, the guy who payed for their services, to the sharks. Then send apples copyright violation out. For our last action we use the ghosts to find out that arsonists secret identity. Next turn, the 9 rollers die.
>>
>>20570453
did we crack the one that upgrades our terminator bots?
>>
>>20570512

Project Swordsman you stole without assistance from Chimera. It lets you buy powers for your henchmen.

Project Beachhead was incomplete when you stole the data on it, it will allow you to buy the Mechs and Mobile Dolls powers at half price.

Project Bonfire was the chemical weapons project. It lets you make chemical weapons.

Project Connor was a genetic enhancement project. It went horribly wrong, but now you can turn people into grotesque insect/crustacean monsters and also you got 3 XP for the medical insights granted by extremely unethical science.
>>
>>20570566
nope, and of course that's the one they did last. We might want to make another try at that soon.
>>
>>20570566

No. Chimera put that one off until last, and since they were the only ones physically present and plugging you into the machines you were cracking, you couldn't do much about it. Unfortunately, you weren't quite fast enough, and Chimera bailed and blew it up before you could extract any useful data.
>>
rolled 54 = 54

So, we got Rica back, AND she now is pretty much immortal. This is great!

We're still going to crush every last Chimera fucker under our boot. We need to wrap up our business with the 9 Rollers so we can move on to business.

Also, we need to continue working on bringing Kestrel to the darkside. Perhaps use Rica as an example of 'see, we're no so bad. We spent incredible resources on just one of our people.' Or... something like that. I'm not the best at diplomacy.
>>
Alright. It's been a while and I can't entirely remember your plans with regards to the Nine Rollers, I just remember that you'd successfully persuaded the Steel Killers and the set it was protecting to defect. So, what specific actions against the remaining Nine Rollers had you planned on taking? Next part had to do with getting the next druggie set on your side to round out your super-awesome income.
>>
... so anyway. Find out the pyromaniacs identity using ghosts then new turn.
>>
>>20570962
Okay general plan:
1. Subvert steelkillers (done)
2. Subvert set they were shielding (done)
3. get derailed by swordsmen project (done)
4. Steel killers led by Rica (effective warfare score 6) attack and wipe out the enemy main set with terminators helping.
5. Iron legion shields the set the steel killers uncovered.
6. julio bribes the newly unshielded enemy set. We form a new set to protect it.
7. Open negotiations with the remnants of the 9's.
>>
>>20570969

Wait, pyromaniac? What?
>>
>>20571040

You can only shield sets in the same region as another set. The Iron Legion can't shield a Palos Verdes set from Catalina Island.
>>
>>20571054
The hero/villain that likes to use fire a lot. Aseral I think. When in doubt over what to do with your last action, learn random heroe's identity.
>>
>>20571076
Then swap sets. our druggies move to the island to be sheilded by the iron legion while our goblins move to the mainland. They are both drug towns so it shouldn't matter.
>>
Tell somebody about them chemical weapons at Eden Tower. We can't allow those to go off. Also what forces do we have left?
>>
>>20571132
Oh yeah, we probably should do that.
>>
>>20571145
>>20571132
see
>>20569268
>>
>>20571132

See: >>20569268 The Eden Tower raid is basically completely resolved.

Your ghosts are unable to deduce the identity of Asrael, or even find him in the first place. He doesn't strike very often, particularly since he's earned the ire of the heroes and villains and thus has few safe havens to retreat to. When he does strike, there's always a lot of property damage, but he almost never seems to be there by the time the ghosts show up, and when he is, he somehow manages to elude them. You'd think a guy constantly radiating white-hot heat would be easier to follow, but he has a knack for turning a corner and disappearing. They're also reasonably certain that Asrael knows he's being followed and is actively eluding them.
>>
>>20571265
he is using his heat based powers as a blind to hide his other capabilities. Just like our all robots all the time is being used to hide our necromantic abilities.
>>
rolled 19 = 19

I'd like to look into building Rica a badass synthskinned robot body to possess. We can do that, right? Since she's a Henchman, she's probably not bound by the normal limits on a Terminator.
>>
>>20571340
Any particular reason why?
>>
Well Rica can hijack peoples bodies now even our bots if she so desired what we need to do is finish off the nine rollers and start up that shell company.
>>
>>20571340

She is indeed bound to the normal limits on a Terminator, in terms of physical capacity, at least. Which is not exactly a bad thing, since only her Health, Power, Athletics, and Stealth get swapped when she enters a new body, and terminators are equal or better than her at all of those things.
>>
>>20571375
Not him but I can see the value in having a pissed off henchman in a robotic body that can be used to turn into any shape of form would be handy.
>>
rolled 19 = 19

>>20571375
Because of >>20571421

Terminators are just plain better. So I guess just make her a Synthskin Terminator. With some body-armor and the best gun we got, of course. Including a bitchin' new Iron Legion mask.
>>
>>20571404
can we build a terminator with anything other than P0?
>>
>>20571464

No. Terminators don't have powers, so they don't even have a Power stat. Now that Rica's Deathless, though, she does. Not that she can use it for anything, since Deathless requires no PP to use and its effect does not increase based off of your Power score.
>>
It is, incidentally, a new turn. Third week of November, 2012.

Action Points:

The Iron Master: 2/2
Julio Pedone: 3/3
Rica Rivera: 2/2

>>20571545
Can we spend a resource for xp and invent/inject Julio with Morph? Or maybe a Mirror Clone.
Self replicating minions for everyone!
>>
hows our otger henchman doing. julio i think
>>
Oh, and I should note that moving the Avalon Guard to Palos Verdes, moving the Dream Boys to Catalina Island, and then setting the Iron Legion to defend the Dream Boys will each take an action, for a total of 3 actions. Also, Julio should be at 1/3 since you're still using him to pimp the income on both the Avalon Guard and the Iron Legion (unless you reassign him).
>>
rolled 3 = 3

>>20571591
What weapons do we have for our gang and such? Assault rifles, smgs, pistols? I remember bazookas. And we got the interceptor body armor, of course.
>>
>>20571603

XP gets more and more expensive the more of it you buy. You've already bought 4 XP, which means the next XP point you buy will cost 5 resources, the one after will cost 6, etc. etc. You'd have to spend a total of 26 resources just to get enough XP to unlock Duplication, let alone buy your henchmen powers from it.
>>
>>20571591
Julio gets powers, Welcome to the wonderful advantage of working for me, and not mobster's Julio. or maybe Peak Speed to fix his crap Athletics.

Inform the Damiyo of Chimera's 'FUCK YOU' and ask if he's doing alright after his fight with swordsman, and thank him for his assistance before.
>>
>>20571629
Oh, so we have to buy into a power set first?
Does the Swordsman research give us a cheaper buy in or free buy into the Superhuman subset?
>>
>>20571606

He's wounded, and it'll take him a few turns to fully recover, but that doesn't stop him from doing regular stuff. So long as you don't use him for any dangerous operations for a few turns, he'll be fine.

>>20571618

You raided a National Guard armory a while back, so you basically have all of the weapons.
>>
>>20571656

Yes, you have to buy the powerset first. Unless they're from the Super Human Abilities set, in which case you can buy them with XP for yourself and then buy them for your henchmen using resources instead of XP (i.e. a power that costs 4 XP for you to unlock costs 4 resources to give to a henchmen if you've already unlocked it for yourself).
>>
>>20571607
we need to reassign him. Have the iron master do one of the swapping actions, julio two others. Then rica leads the Steel killers in the attack /w terminators. Then Julio bribes the newly uncovered set and the IM makes a new one to guard it. How much money do we have?
>>
rolled 35 = 35

>>20571679
What is the maximum a stat like Athletics or Cunning can be?

A hotel in San Francisco. The balcony overlooks the city below. Sofia sits on the railing, legs dangling off the edge. Spending a lot of time flying does wonders in removing a fear of heights. "Something on your mind?" Steve asks as he steps through the door.

"Eh, just the movie," she says, turning herself around to face him, "it was better than I thought it'd be."

"Bah, you're just saying that because you don't want to admit you'd rather have seen the new Twilight," Steve says.

"God, no," Sofia says, rolling her eyes.

"Pfft, I know you love those movies," Steve says, "you're hiding something whenever the subject gets brought up, I can tell."

"I used to like them," Sofia admits, "that was...A long time ago. These days it all just seems so...Fake. Stephanie Meyer doesn't know how to write a killer, and Robert Patinson doesn't know how to play one."

"Not all killers are gangsters," Steve says.

"Yeah, not all of us," Sofia says, glancing away.
>>
"You've killed people," Steve says, straightforward.

"One," she says.

"Why?" he asks, leaning against the balcony next to her.

For a moment, Sofia doesn't say anything. "I used to be friends with Catherine," she says, "we'd go slumming sometimes, in like, Inglewood. It was kind of close to Compton. We thought we were so edgy."

"So this is before Kestrel?" Steve asks.

"Yes," Sofia says, "Catherine started going out with this one guy down there. Meaning they'd have sex sometimes. Gangster romance," she says, her voice bitter, now. "He was some low-ranking, bottom of the pack guy, you could tell he was with her just because he'd take what he could get."

Sofia starts staring off into space as she continues. "I went over to his place one night. God, I was so stupid...Some other gangster came knocking, I don't even know who, and he left the room to go talk to him. He left his gun back in the room with me, sitting on the nightstand, I guess he knew this gangster, they were sort of friends. Except, not anymore. I heard shouting...And a gunshot, and I screamed, and he heard it. The other guy. He came in holding his gun, and I knew he was there to get rid of witnesses. So I grabbed the gun, and he shot me, shot at me, he missed. But I didn't."

we had an old stunlock combo build a while back let me update it:
peak speed (effective athletics score 3)
meta speed (effective athletics score 5, two actions per round)
super speed (effective athletics score 7, three actions per round)
Power armor: energy beam
This lets us stun the enemy with one of our actions, denying him the ability to move while we spend the other two shooting him. Later we can bump our health, athletics and power to make ourselves a more effective combatant.
>>
>>20571711

Theoretically there is no maximum, but you basically never see any human being with higher than 8 or 9. Meaning that the best of the SAS might have a 9 in Athletics. Of course, supers boost themselves up to 10 or above using powers pretty regularly.
>>
>>20571685

With the dawn of a new turn, your resources stand at 15. Keep in mind that creating a competent guard set is very expensive.

We DID get Rica a Synthskin Terminator to inhabit, right? 'Cause it gives her a niiice set of stats. And, of course, Interceptor Body Armor and an Assault Rifle or something, her choice. Also a bitchin' Iron Legion mask if she wants one.

She ain't some defected Goblin no more. She's the Iron Master's top badass.
>>
>>20571817
The prices aren't in the paste bin.
>>
How much does a Single star power cost? a 2 star
2xp? 4xp?
>>
>>20571854

She switched over to a more tech-looking mask a while ago, actually, when the Avalon Guard officially broke ranks with the Goblin Gang. As a terminator, she isn't really going to need a mask. But yes, you can just punt one of your existing terminators over to her, it's not even a big deal.

The thing with Steve is only a wat do if you want it to be. You can have him react if there's a direction you want to take it, or you can just fade-to-black. Either way, that's actually in the past now, since the new turn means she and Steve are both back in LA.
>>
i thought rica was gonna possess a top dog enemy and wreak havok on em to ease our takeover of them
>>
>>20571896
2xp per star.
>>
>>20571854
Do we make the Iron Master slightly awkward in making a female synthskin form?
'GYAH! I cant get the proportions right on this bust!"
>>
The prices are indeed not in the pastebin. Meh, I suck at making comprehensive rulesets. The prices for different sets are:

Worker set: 3
Footman set: 6
Specialist set: 6
Bruiser set: 10
Elite set: 15

For powers, each star equals 2 XP.
>>
>>20571914

She went to possess a Goblin Ganger because she knows where they are already and while making new terminators is basically instantaneous from a turn-to-turn basis (you can make about thirty terminators per-turn without even spending an action), it takes a while from an in-game perspective. She can have her current host shoot herself and then set up shop inside a terminator whenever she wants, and then leave the terminator to possess someone else whenever it would be convenient. There's a reason Deathless is such an expensive power.

We trust Steve, we made him, and we have even more of the fuel to tip Amp over the edge, and Kestral too, which is 'I will murder you and it would be easy' speel when he captured Rica.

Speaking of which, Get that shit to the papers! The Swordsman nowhere to be seen while armed thugs kidnap the mayor, inept SWAT are barely able to match the mechanized minions of the magnanimous Master while Chimera attempts to kill tens of thousands, and fails thanks to a guardian angel of steel.

Might want to post their stats too. Anyway, big our offensive. Once we find out how much it costs to bribe the set we can determine what we have left to set up a set with, we can also just use the Avalon Guard to guard them for one turn in a pinch. Also, does the 9 rollers have a notable leader? Because I'm seriously thinking having Rica possess that person and then "negotiate an end to the hostilities" (aka join our gang).

>>
>>20572090
His first name is John though.
John Jonah Jameson Jr.
oh wait, i see it now.

If we buy the powers we'd bankrupt ourselves for resources to buy a new set.
Maybe send Rica out with some Termy backup/ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL to knock over a back or two. Build a pigeon bot or two for hacking.
The police are in shambles and the infrastructure of the it is still reeling with chemical weapons (I bet Eden tech is getting some choice words from EPA and Apple too), crazy highway shootouts, and supers taking all manner of hate lately.

The best part is, We're Normal, just, smart.
>>
>>20572180

You totally would if they had one.

>>20571685

I assume we want to go with this, however there's an issue in that a single attack isn't terribly likely to annihilate an entire set in one go. It usually takes two or three. Having a hero or henchman attack to finish it off might do the trick, though.
>>
>>20572224
Execpt the Rica is leading the attack, giving the set an effective warfare score of 6 vs her opponents 3. How does that change the odds?
>>
>>20572284

Normally you roll a number of d6 equal to your current Morale and decrease enemy Morale by 1 for every die that comes up equal to or lower than your Warfare stat. With Warfare stats of 6 or above (usually written as 5+1), you roll two dice per Morale, one hitting on 5 or below, the other hitting on 1. The Steel Killers' current Morale is only 2, though. Being newly recruited over to your side, their Morale is pretty low. It will naturally regenerate by 1 every turn up to their maximum of 4, but you can speed the process up by bribing them. Though that costs an action as well as resources.
>>
im not too sure on the details but im all for invading and capturing a new territory and defeating a rival group for good.

the nine rollers the ones we focusing on now?
>>
>>20572332

Yeah, you've been hammering the Nines for a while now. So far the plan has been to undermine them using subterfuge and bribery, that way you'll have enough power to take them out in one fell swoop when the time comes.
>>
>>20572332
Yep, a third of them are already on our side and the other 2/3rds have no idea, so the numbers are basically even, what with our regular guys. Except we have a super villain. Okay, so what we need to do is back up the attack with our terminator bots, do we still have the actions to finish everything with that?
>>
>>20572377
We have a Supervillan, and disposable Assassins from everywhere ahla Agent Smith.
Agent Rivera?
>>
>>20572377

Let's see, Julio uses two actions and Iron Master uses one to rotate the sets around (important note: this will tip off the Nine Rollers that the game is afoot, since they aren't ordering the Dream Boys anywhere), Rica assists on the attack, and Julio is supposed to swoop in to bribe the exposed set. That leaves both the Iron Master and Rica with spare actions with which to attack the set with Terminators (and Rica doesn't even have to worry about failure anymore since worst case scenario her host gets bumped off and she spends a few hours bouncing around random gangsters until she finds someone she can overpower and possess).
>>
>>20572428
damn, we need one more action to form a set. Any ideas?
>>
>>20572428
can we move them after the attack?
>>
>>20572484

Yes.

>>20572478

Well, you don't need to have both the Iron Master and Rica make an attack. You could just have one send the attack, and the other raise a set.
>>
>>20572492
Rica's contribution will be relatively minor, so have her sit this one out. Also, we move in with a full set of warrior bots with only one pigeon scout.
>>
>>20572561

Uh. Rica's contribution might not be super-huge, but it'll be bigger than yours. And she's immortal, whereas you're not.
>>
>>20572577
er, wait, I assumed we were just sending terminators, and 16 of those are a big contribution. Why would we go ourselves?
>>
>>20572621

You wouldn't. Someone has to take an action to attack at all, because the Terminators are not henchmen and can't take gang management actions like attacking sets on their own. But you can send a mess of terminators without personally using an action on the attack. There's over a dozen of those things now, if they weren't pretty much autonomous they'd be mostly useless anyway.
>>
>>20572655
Okay then, we now have all the actions we need.
So yeah, do the attack and shuffle, we will see how we are when that is done.
>>
It wasn't until the end of the night that actual gunfire broke out. Not EVERY criminal action has to be open war in the streets that draws the ire of SWAT and supers alike (of course, Palos Verdes' SWAT team is currently suffering a bad case of shot-to-pieces, but heat is still a bad thing). When the gunfire did come, most of the Smiling Nines higher-ranks were taken out within about ten or fifteen minutes of each other, but their leader Mike had escaped the initial gunfire after blowing a bot's head clean off. Which hadn't actually killed it, but its aim was thrown off enough for Mike to get away.

Now he and two of the Smiling Nines who'd met up with him were holed up in one of their hideouts, an abandoned warehouse they sometimes hid out in when the heat got big enough that cops might come knocking at their apartments. "Alright," Mike said, "been a few hours. I think we're probably safe here until this blows over."

"I sure hope so," one of his goons said, and then, as Mike suddenly doubled over and stumbled against the wall, "whoa, are you alright, boss?"

"I'm fine," Mike said, pushing himself up again, "think one of 'em might have grazed me, I'm good though. Hey, check the window, I think I saw something."

"Yeah, sure," one of the goons says, heading over to peer around the window. The second his back was turned, Mike shot first one goon, then the other through the head. And then put the gun to his own head, blowing it clean off.
>>
>>20572828
Excellent. Their organization should be effectively decapitated.
>>
It's a close thing, but you succeed in removing the Smiling Nines from the face of the Earth. What's the name and type of set you plan on putting down to replace them?
>>
>>20572828
Was mike the head of the whole gang? Or just that set. Anyway, time to send Julio in to bribe that other set. (might want to create a separate pastbin for info on all the characters, gangs and sets there are).
>>
>>20572918
Footmen might work.
Collect all weapons from Smiling Nine cashes and move them deeper into 'our' territory
>>
>>20572918
Well first we need to bribe that other set. Then we will know how much money we have to spend on the covering set.
>>
>>20572957

Just that set. I've been thinking of making a wiki for this quest as it's starting to grow, but I cannot into wikis, so someone would have to tell me where to get a page going. Is there some kind of dedicated "put your quest stuff here" wiki? Or do I start some cheap-as-free wikia?
>>
>>20572973

It costs 7 resources to bribe the other set over. That leaves 4 resources left, which actually kind of makes the decision for you, now that I actually stop and think about it. Guess we're going with a worker set, then? Better than leaving the neighborhood vacant and giving the Nine Rollers a chance to buy up an elite set with their gobs of spare cash from sitting on the two most profitable sets in the city for two and a half months.
>>
>>20572987
Then where does the head of the gang hang out? We took out the two most powerful sets. As for a wiki, you can either make a page on 1d4chan, that tg quest wiki when that namefag finishes making it, or make your own wiki. Making your own is probably best if you want multiple pages. You might want to ask the GM of Chapterquest for advice, as he has his own wiki, which works quite well.
>>
>>20573039
yep, although they should loose access to a bunch of that money, what with them loosing the more important 2/3rds of their gang. Did we capture any of that?
>>
>>20573052

Gangs don't typically have a single leader. They have a board of directors. I am not making this up. Unless a super villain enters the equation to seize total control, most will have basically a council that runs things. About a third of this council is going to be in prison at any given time, and it will not do much to stop them from doing their job.
>>
>>20573146
Then would each member of this board of directors have access to a portion of the bank account?
>>
Anyone know how I can contact Chapterquest guy? If nothing else, when is his quest? I can pop in and invite him to an IRC chat when he's running it if no one knows his email.
>>
>>20573218
chapter quest guy also runs Commoragh Quest, which is a spin off. It is running right now. >>20572165
>>
>>20573210

Sort of. Most balancing of expenses and profits is done the set level. Unlike corporations, gangs don't have things like marketing to worry about, and the fact that both of them technically answer to the same group of guys does not stop sets from the same gang from going to blows on occasion (fun fact: waaaaay back in the 60s the Bloods used to be the Pirus, a set of the Crips, and since other Crips were harassing them so much they split off and became their mortal enemies for the next half century and ongoing). As a result, I am legitimately uncertain as to what the council actually DOES besides cash-in crazy-huge paychecks. Believe it or not, gangsters are kind of tight-lipped on the subject.

In terms of gang mechanics, if a gang doesn't have a super villain leading it, it may as well have no leader at all, as each set functions independently and decisions as to what to spend excess funds on are made by an abstract entity, presumably as a result of collective decision by the entire council.
>>
>>20573284
Okay, the main point I was wondering is if the sudden loss of 2/3rds of their gang caused them to temporarily or permanently lose access to whatever reserves of cash they have. Whatever, just bribe the set and form a shield set, called the steel guard. Then see if we can enter negotiations with the remaining two sets.
>>
>>20573146
Ultimatum to the 9s about one?
One of their men steps away from his post near one of the 'directors' gets a pen, and starts writing up The Iron Master's demand.

Become my Vassel, Rolling Nines, or i will level my hate on you which has seen to the defeat and embarrassment of the super heroes all across LA. Your choice comes soon, some of your assets remain secure with you, and you continue your little play at crime. Your men Will betray you on my order already, this is more of, a courtesy, and, the fact a Supervillian knows it's better to obtain an asset then crush a foe.

Deliver the letter, the thug says he was ordered to deliver this message, and then Kill himself for the Iron Master.

>>20573334

Alright, you drop 6 resources on the Steel Guard, a worker set, which leaves you with one left over, and the 4th week of November starts up.

Though while we're wrapping up the third week, I feel I should mention that Sofia was about ready to feel betrayed by the fact that the battle over Project Swordsman was so incredibly bloody, but wound up calming down (with regards to you, at least) after Steve pointed out that EdenTech's dodging some pretty critical corporate regulations resulted in the deaths of literally ten times as many people as all of Team Red combined, and most of Team Red's kills came from Chimera, who wasn't even part of the plan. And that the Iron Master easily saved more lives than he took by going out of his way to warn civilians of an imminent chemical weapons attack. I'd write this out, but there's not really a wat do in there and it's not a major character moment. Steve remains an awesome investment, Kestrel is increasingly dissatisfied with the narrative sold to her by Team Blue, everything is going swimmingly.

While we're on the subject of Eden Tower fallout, the press has, of course, been having a field day with it. People are panicking over whether or not the Supers War has finally begun, what with first the Hobs attack on Hollywood and then this huge mess. Chimera had things all lined up to pin the blame squarely on you and Okata, and even the recording device placed on Rica wouldn't have given Jonah much ammunition, since your tendency for electronic subterfuge is, by now, very well known. However your attempt to evacuate the targeted area before the bomb could go off, as well as your pointing the police to Chimera, has swung things more in your favor. And now another news cycle has started up and everyone's forgotten about it.
>>
>>20573518
arrange a meeting with the 9 rollers remnants and then one with the Damio. Its time we discussed Chimera's attempt to brand us as mass murderers.
>>
>>20573518
I imagine Eden tech has some legal troubles. How many resources do we have? And what was the type of the neighborhood we just took over with the steel legion?
>>
>>20573586
agreed Chimera was planning to have us take the fall it would be good to find out his opinion om the matter.
>>
Rica can't possess specific people super-reliably. Finding a host that she can overpower in general is basically just a matter of persistence. She just has to keep smacking herself into solid targets until she runs into one who doesn't have the will to resist her. But for specific guys, she has to get lucky.
>>
Here's what the Iron Guard looks like as of November 21st in Palos Verdes (not bothering with your Catalina Island sets since they're not under much risk of attack):

Avalon Guard (Playa Del Ray, Palos Verdes - Drugs)
Warfare: 1
Morale: 2
Upkeep: 1
Business: 4/3/3/2/1 (Drugs/Hookers/Robbery/Arms/Extortion)

Steel Killer Nine Rollers (Harbor City, Palos Verdes - Robbery)
Warfare: 3
Morale: 2/4
Upkeep: 3
Business: 3/2/1/1/0 (Drugs/Hookers/Arms/Robbery/Extortion)

The Steel Guard (Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes - Robbery)
Warfare: 1
Morale: 2
Upkeep: 1
Business: 4/3/3/2/1 (Hookers/Robbery/Arms/Extortion/Drugs)

Easy Nines (Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes - Drugs)
Warfare: 1
Morale: 1
Upkeep: 0
Business: 6/1/1/0/0 (Drugs/Hookers/Arms/Robbery/Extortion)

Your total profits are now +10, by the way, which is absurd. That's not raw income. That's profits, after subtracting upkeep.

Be pleased your son is 'growing' up to be bigger than we could've imagined. Ask him if Sophia has any questions for us. Add in the Amp threats against Rica, hovering deportation and death over her head.
Send a 'get well soon' card to the Palos Verdes police precinct, signed as The Iron Master. it was infuriate them.
>>
>>20573675
oh man the card idea is awesome we have to totally do that from now on.
>>
>>20573675
Why deliberately pick a fight with the police? we can do far more lasting damage by reducing the two robery neighborhoods to drugs/hookers, and get more money besides. They'll lose four resources per turn, without us engaging them directly.
>>
Rica's still hanging out in Palos Verdes with the Steel Killers. She's begun to suspect that some bribes are being passed around, because Hell if she doesn't know what subversion looks like by now, and her suspicions are confirmed when a Steel Killer Nine unloads an assault rifle into her chest. Of course, her chest is made of kevlar and having a few holes in it doesn't make a huge difference to her anyway, though the other guy can't say the same after she repays the favor.

She attempts to flee Harbor City for Playa Del Ray, where the Avalon Guard is currently stationed (and boy does that name not make sense anymore, but what's important is that she can trust those guys...Sort of). Along the way, the loyalist Steel Killer she's fleeing with vanishes with a sudden scream. Turning around, she finds only an open manhole.

Her body is basically just another mask at this point, totally expendable, so she shrugs her shoulders and follows him down. Below, she follows the sewers until a hole tunneled through the wall leads her into an abandoned subway tunnel. Following a trail of blood (and an unpleasant odor), she eventually finds several corpses dangling from the ceiling, each one host to a number of hideous tumors bursting out from their guts. On closer inspection, the tumors appear to be...Eggs.

>wat do?
>>
>>20573853
I'm seriously tempted to just sic a hero on this. Did we just lose the steel killer nines? Because if we did, I recommend we bribe them back, and send a terminator squad to wipe one of their remaining sets. And go to ghost surveillance on the remaining movers and shakers of the 9 rollers.
>>
>>20573675
Let's not do the card thing. Besides, it would be a much better option to send a card that says she's safe to Kestrel's dad so he'll stop worrying.

you need to at least try to nab an egg, then beat feet Out of there.

Iron Master, sell or donate this information you get to Whisper. If this is another Super Villain's work, one we dont hate really, we'll keep a cautious eye on it. Otherwise we're going to investigate further with a team of Terminators.

Rica looks around for some way to reach the ceiling, but eventually gives up and just sprays a bunch of bullets at the feet of one of the corpses until it dislodges and hits the ground. Then she pries the egg open, and leaps out of the way as she notices a hideous creature scuttling from the shadows right towards her in response. Sneaky bastard got the drop on her. It's roughly humanoid with a blood red carapace, a mandible, and four extra limbs growing from its back, each tipped by a savage claw. The monster pounces on Rica, who opens fire, but the creature grabs the weapon and tosses it away. Rica tries to push the creature off of her, but it is incredibly strong, and its four limbs puncture a dozen-odd holes in her body until she finally dies. Sort of.

You pull up a few images from your stolen data and doublecheck and...Yes. That creature is from EdenTech's Project Connor. The one that was at ground zero for a chemical weapons attack, and which had a bomb detonated twenty feet away from it, and which was also gassed by a highly concentrated dose of those chemicals for a solid twenty minutes before that. Apparently "throw cockroach genetics at it to see what sticks" is a pretty good way to make an everything-proof immune system and body so long as you don't mind being a B-movie monster.

"So, uh, anything else you want me to check out while I'm here?" Rica says from the Ecto-Reader behind you (you're really glad you made that thing long-range), "I just tried to possess that thing, no dice, I didn't even feel resistance. It was like trying to possess a toaster. I think it's brain is too messed up or something."

Concerning your turn, peeling your powerful but costly sets away from you turned out to be an unprecedented windfall in the shortterm. Sure your weak, moneymaking sets are exposed, but you just made 16 resources. That puts you at an even 20 resources. Both the Steel Killers and the Steel Guard have betrayed you due to the bribes of the Nine Rollers. On the bright side, they can't possibly be making much money running four powerful and costly sets with almost no money-making sets left.

>wat do?
>>
>>20574228
Does that put us at 26? or 16? Bribe them back, and put the terminators on the offensive Target one of the shielding loyalist sets.

So we just have to defeat Swordsman? Lets challenge him to chess online.

This is why we have heroes. Lets get a ghost down there and send a hero to save the day. We can gather intel on the other side and see what these monsters can do.
>>
>>20574686
Or we could make it look like Chimera is trying to blow up whatever that area is under and lure Swordsman into it.
Win freakin win.
>>
>>20574621

You don't have to. You could just peel their skin off with an Arnie bot. Evidently that's not the favored plan, however.

Julio greases some palms and gets the mercenary bastards back over on Team Particularly Metallic Shade Of Red, while Rica leads the attack on Team Red With A Nine On It (the nicknames for individual gangs tend not to be as elegant as Team Red and Team Blue overall, which is kind of an accomplishment, really). Julio ends up spending 18 of your 20 resources bribing up the Steel Killers and Steel Guard to the point where they've actually got the Morale to not get bribed over for peanuts.

Then Rica takes the pair of them and brings down the hammer on the Nines. The Steel Killers hit the Manhattan Nine Rollers and it's a massacre. Didn't even stand a chance. Rica doesn't even bother with her ghost Agent Smith powers, as it turns out the Manhattan Nines aren't really worth the effort. The Steel Guard isn't quite as tough, but fortunately neither are the Twenty-Third Street Nine Rollers. The two of them end up having a bunch of fist fights with one another, but in the end nothing really gets done.

The Twenty-Third Street Nine Rollers are the only set left, and you're out of sets in a position to attack. You could just have henchmen with remaining action points take the terminators and attack on their own, though (or use one of your actions to send the terminators on their own). The Twenty-Third Street Nines aren't that tough.

Action Points

The Iron Master: 2/2
Julio Pedone: 1/3
Rica Rivera: 0/2
>>
>>20574784
dispatch the Terminators to complete the termination.
>>
>>20574784

>>
rolled 77 = 77

>>20574784

>>
>>20574784
... did they just gain an extra set?
They originally had 6 (see here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20373457/#p20374092)
in the attack wave we took out our subverted 4 of them. (they now have 2)
They Bribed two of our sets. They now have 4
We bribed them back. They now have two.
We wiped out their two remaining sets.
>>
You send in the machines. It turns out fist fights are rather more dangerous when you have robo-fists. After the first few Nines end up broken and crippled, one of them pulls a gun, at which point your terminators deploy their assault rifles and turn on him in unison, chewing him into gristle. The others flee and do not return.

On the one hand you've left a pair of empty neighborhoods and don't really have the cash to fill them, but on the other hand no one is left in the region but you, which means no one but you can make new sets here unless they've been vacant a full turn. And since you're bringing in 15 resources next turn (unless there's some serious shenanigans from heroes, the police, or another gang), that shouldn't be a huge problem.

You receive 2 XP for destroying the Nine Rollers. They are utterly crushed, and if mapanon is around, it'd be cool if that map could get updated, because the Iron Master now owns Palos Verdes.

Action Points:

The Iron Master: 1/2
Julio Pedone: 1/3
Rica Rivera: 0/2
>>
>>20574859

You wiped out one remaining set, the other set fought with one of yours to no effect. So then the terminators took them out instead.
>>
>>20574941
Ah my bad. The Iron master will rob some random tech store, and Julio will see if the Damio is amiable to discussing Chimaera's antics.
>>
As usual, the quest is beginning to lose steam as time wears on, so I have archived it here:

Also as usual, I'll be around for a bit longer.

The Iron Master raids an engineering warehouse somewhere out in Long Beach. Partially because that's where all the best engineering firms hang out, but also because heists sometimes bring police heat and fuck Chimera.

The heist gets crashed, however, not by Chimera, but by Swordsman. You divert half your bots to keeping him busy while the other half attempt to make off with the goods, but no dice. Swordsman is too fast, and the diversionary bots are reduced to scrap within just a few minutes, giving Swordsman enough time to use his advanced sensor array to track down your remaining bots and ambush them in their getaway car, cutting them apart as well and returning the parts to their previous owners. Curse him.

Julio sees better success, if only because no heroes come to crash a business meeting. Damyo Okata looks very different out of his armor and in a business suit. Okata is open to the idea of striking against Chimera, but stresses that he must maintain a careful guard against the Santos Espada. As his rivals, they will no doubt be ready to exploit any weakness in his defenses. There's also Compton between him and Long Beach. Nonetheless, he'd like to help in weakening Chimera in any way he can. Even if they hadn't made a direct attack on him, it's never wise to leave the biggest fish in the pond alone until it strikes.

During late November, Sofia sends a message to Steve asking how Thanksgiving works when you're a robot and your family is a reclusive super villain.

>Response?
>>
>>20575236
I huh that is an excellent question.

>>
You know, considering the thing is laying eggs I'm tempted to make the project Connor creature Swordmab's problem...not sure how best to get him the info though. Also it's a 2xp trade off and I'm not sure how long it'd distract him.
>>
>>20575296

The Stalkers are the larger of the two gangs contending for Compton. They're still pretty small. Hounds and Stalkers both would make for fairly easy pickings, particularly since you don't have any entrenched enemies who might take advantage of you if you spent your forces in a fight with them (which is why nobody else has nabbed Compton, or, for that matter, Palos Verdes). Although you've had a bit of rough history with Chimera, currently the most powerful gang in the city and who have a land border with you.

Sofia is rather receptive to a Thanksgiving at the Master household. There has probably never been a worse time to be associated with the head of R&D at EdenTech, and she's not sure if she'd want to see him even if politics didn't come into it.
>>
how bout tipping off hero of the tunnel. and ambush him when he is halfway done with pigeons and ko him with terminators. then finish the tunnel. maybe get xp for2 missons this way.
oh, does the project data reveal anywraknesses on hero guy?
>>
So I suppose that's a thing that happens. Nothing comes up that's extremely significant, however Kestrel is clearly warming to you. She has yet to completely drop her general moody attitude, but eh, she's a teenager. That's probably just how she is.

Anyways. First week of December. You gain 16 resources, putting you at an impressive 18. Of course, you'll need to cut into those profits a little bit in order to build up new sets, as if you don't do that this turn, you can be sure other gangs will seize the opportunity to gain a foothold in Palos Verdes. The Iron Legion gets hit with a police crackdown in Two Harbors, but manages to pull through, and what with the city's currently sharply limited action economy and more pressing threats, there's unlikely to be a follow-up. Still, might consider subverting some police precincts in your territory, especially since Commissioner Bumblefuck may eventually get herself replaced, at which point you can expect a dramatic rise in police activity.

Swordsman is calling a press conference, meanwhile, to address the growing criminal threat in the city as evidenced by the two horrifying terrorist attacks in Hollywood and Downtown, and his resolution to step up efforts to see the gangs dismantled.
>>
>>20575546

Swordsman has no obvious weaknesses, but you do gain a peak at his stat block.

Swordsman (???)
Health: 6
Power: 5 (15)
Athletics: 7
Cunning: 3
Technology: 5
Insight: 4
Observation: 5
Notoriety: 0
Stealth: 4

Powers: Levitation, Flight, Up, Up, And Away, Peak Strength, Meta Strength, Super Strength, Peak Speed, Meta Speed, Peak Durability, Meta Durability, Super Durability, Enhanced Vision, Enhanced Senses, Natural Weapon, AI, Energy Beam, Force Field, Energy Blast

Reassuring!
>>
>>20575384
I can see it now, Steve and her at the end on a normal table, us in the workshop with a plate while our sync skin just sits there smiling like a retard.

So like... are we actually neutral and want to take control of the city out of the hands of the gangs or are we just pretending? I like how we are right now. Neutral for the most part.
>>
>>20575584

I dunno. But the game was intentionally built to handle anti-villains as one of the possible archetypes the players might take, so it's doable either way.
>>
Alright, looks like we're done for tonight. I'm off, see you tomorrow at 14:00 EST/server time.
>>
We will use our two xp to buy the discounted Mech power
Mechs-Combat command
H6 P4 A6 T0 I4 O6 N0 S6
Sell insight for (10xp for powers)
Buy peak speed, meta speed, super speed (8xp)
H6 P4 A6 T0 I0 O6 N0 S6 (can raise Athletics score to 12, one higher than swordsman (speed and strength don’t stack since they are from the same set))
Sell 1 observation for another 6 xp bringing our total to 13
Which we use to buy terminator and model T for the bots. They can now control 24 warrior bots each. Remaining xp: 5.
So after we buy this power our forces look like this:

Rica Rivera at H2 P0 A3 C1 T2 I2 O3 N2 S4
Powers: Deathless

Two Combat-Command mechs at H6 P4 A6 T0 I0 O5 N0 S6
Powers: peak speed, meta speed, super speed, Terminator, Model T

48 warrior bots at H4 A4 C0 T1 I0 O3 N0 S4
6 Pigeon bots at H3 A3 C0 T4 I0 O0 N0 S5
Steve the Android at H1 A1 C4 T2 I4 O2 N0 S2
Julio Pedone at H3 A1 C3 T2 I3 O3 N3 S2
>>
>>20579168
I still say that, even with Rica doing her Agent Riviera act, we should make her an absolutely badass Synthskinned robot body to call home. Since we're buying Mechs we should make one custom with huge Health, Athletics, Power, and Stealth since those are the only ones that stick when she possesses a body.
>>
>>20579430
Okay, then one Rica bot, let me do the math for a bit.
thake a H6 P6 A6 T0 I2 O6 N0 S6 bot, then sell observation and insight for a total of 24 xp. the speed line and terminators/model T uses up 16, leaving us with 8.
>>
>>20579579
Go for Durability? I think that is enough for all three levels.
>>
>>20579906
That could work, although if we can put interceptor body armor on it we should do that and save the points.
>>
>>20579997
True. We could go for the Strength line.
>>
>>20580084
I read "NOTE: Bonuses from within the same set do not stack with each other, however bonuses from different sets DO stack with each other." to mean that the strength and speed line's athletics score increase does not stack, same with strength and the natural weapon lines. Although that would mean that Swordsman has an incredibly stupid build, with natural weapon being entirely useless.
>>
>>20580127
How about Enhanced Vision, Natural Weapons, and Deadly weapons then?
>>
>>20580211
sounds good to me.
>>
rolled 19 = 19

>>20580237
So now I think Rica in the Riviera-Bot could take on Swordsman. Especially when supported by all those tonnes of Termies.
>>
>>20580274
the problem is tricking him into fighting two mechs and 60 kill bots alone.
>>
rolled 32 = 32

>>20580316
Pfft. Challenge him to one on one honorable combat.

Then bots from everywhere.

We're a nice guy, not stupid.
>>
>>20580327
... And he would likely have six swat teams and Amp and Bethmoth on standby.
>>
Oh. Well if this thread is still a thing, let's just go with that.

It looks like this note didn't make it into the posted rules, but minions can't have minion powers (although henchmen can).
>>
>>20582181
It did make it on there after I pointed out the infinite Mech loop.

NOTE: Some powers allow a minion or device granted by the power to take a power of its
own, usually at reduced cost. In this case, the power chosen cannot be one that grants
another minion or device who has access to powers (but it CAN be a power that grants
minions who do NOT have access to powers).

Terminators don't have powers. Ergo, mech can serve as command nodes for them (though if the enemy can take out the mechs all the ones they are controlling shutdown/self destruct, so there is that)
>>
>>20582243

Oh, yeah. Dammit, I'm starting to lose track of my own rules now. But yes, there's basically no number of terminators that can stand up to most heroes, so.
>>
rolled 81 = 81

>>20582332
Woo, welcome back. It cool to have the mechs and the Riviera-Bot?

ALSO, we have something very fucking important to do.

Christmas shopping. For Steve, Kestrel, Rica, and Julio. Why? Because we're a nice guy!
>>
>>20582332
Still a far better option than going just terminators. Anyway, buy the mech option. And I just realized that I dropped cunning from the mechs stat-line, let me fix that. More math for me.
>>
Alright, sheet updated.

THE IRON MASTER
Health: 1 (3)
Power: 3 (9)
Resources: 18
XP: 0

Athletics: 1
Cunning: 3
Technology: 4
Insight: 2
Observation: 3
Nefariousness: 2
Stealth: 1

Powers: AI, Terminators, SynthSkin, Model T, Mechs, Ghost Whisperer
>>
rolled 56 = 56

>>20582441
You forgot Peak Speed.
>>
>>20580127

Concerning hero builds, sometimes these were created before rules updates which render certain powers useless. Since they aren't on any kind of XP budget, though, I usually don't bother to update the sheet unless powers have been shifted such that a hero is weaker or stronger than they're supposed to be. Swordsman's Natural Weapon was originally intended to reflect super strength, but later on I realized that super strength should reflect super strength (and also that stacking the Athletics bonuses from super speed and super strength was kind of ridiculous). I might change it so that natural weapon stacks with super strength at some point, in which case it'll be removed from Swordsman, so meh.
>>
H6 P6 A6 C0 T0 I6 O6 N0 S6
Sell insight for (21xp for powers)
Buy peak speed, meta speed, super speed (8xp)
H6 P4 A6 T0 I0 O6 N0 S6 (can raise Athletics score to 12, one higher than swordsman (speed and strength don’t stack since they are from the same set))
Sell one observation
Which we use to buy terminator and model T for the bots. They can now control 24 warrior bots each. Remaining xp: 10.
Buy durability line and enhanced senses. (10xp)
So after we buy this power our forces look like this:
H6 P6 A6 C0 T0 I0 O6 N0 S6
Speed line, durability line, terminators and model T (36 terminators each), enhanced senses. Someone check my math.
>>
>>20582506
One of those, plus another one made for Rica that dumps observation for even more XP which we will spend on something.
>>
>>20582449

You didn't buy Peak Speed. You only had 2 XP, that's not enough to get both Mechs and Peak Speed.
>>
rolled 81 = 81

>>20582532
Ah, my bad. I thought we got it for us and Julio.
>>
>>20582506

Peak Speed (2), Meta Speed (4), Super Speed (8), Terminators (12), Model T (16), Peak Durability (18), Meta Durability (20), Super Durability (24), Animal Senses (26), Enhanced Senses (28)

So it'll cost a total of 28 XP to get all those powers. You mentioned selling one Observation which would bump you up to 27, but you didn't actually decrease the Observation score. So.
>>
>>20582635
enhanced vision not enhanced senses, my bad.
>>
>>20582675

Alright, the math checks out in that case, although you still need to bump the Observation down to 5.
>>
>>20582703
done.
>>
Alright, so each mech is going to have 18 PP, which, with Model T, gives it access to 36 Terminator bots. You can have a total of 6 command mechs attached to you, which gives you 216 terminators to play around with (including Steve, who'll have to be in there somewhere).

Congratulations, you now have a robot army.
>>
Oh, dear.

Something may or may not have come up. I'm still waiting for confirmation, but it's possible I might have to go take care of something for a few hours sometime within the next ten or fifteen minutes. If that's the case, I'll start this up again probably sometime around 18:00.

>>
>>20582947

Command mechs at H6 P6 A6 C0 T0 I0 O5 N0 S6
Powers: Super speed, Super durability, terminators, model T, enhanced vision

They can't hide in plain sight like a terminator could, but that doesn't mean they can't sneak around. They will definitely be taking circumstantial penalties to sneaking around the city that terminators wouldn't, since being spotted at all basically means the jig is up. You can use synthskin to make them look natural, sure, but a bunch of Astartes walking around the city is going to draw attention anyway.
>>
>>20583019
How many actions do we have left?
>>
Okay, the thing I thought might come up came up. So, probably coming back at 18:00. Although while I'm gone, you haven't spent any actions yet for the 1st week of December. Buying up powers and shuffling around minions doesn't require any actions.

Anyways, see you in a few hours.
>>
>>20583140
Okay, we have 16 resources and need to buy 2 sets. We will buy a bruiser and either a footman or a specialist set, depending on if there is a hooker town open. We will spend the rest of our actions ruining neighborhoods to either hookers or drugs, depending on what the individual set is good at.
Also, we unleash the ghosts on Compton and swordsman. Also might want to look for a tech company that has bots like Eden tech did.
>>
>>20583355
I'm fine for everything else but why the ghosts?

>>
>>20584229
I was looking to do the same, I have a few questions about character generation
>>
First of all, this thing is taking a lot longer than normal (and unfortunately requires me to be away from my computer, I'm typing this up on a break). So I apologize for that, hopefully it'll be over with in an hour or two.

Second, with regards to this: >>20584229

Sure. Do me a favor and tell me how it goes, extra data on how this system works would always be welcome. Although, fair warning, this system was never intended to sustain more than one protagonist. The powers list is diverse enough that it should work out, but still, be advised. Especially since I've had to patch this thing as I go even with just one main character.

If anyone wants to ask questions, fire away, I'll answer when I get back. You can also *usually* find me lurking in #arbitrarystring on irc.thisisnotatrueending.com, so if you send me a PM there I can get to you that way, too. Also, I plugged in my 4chan email, so that is another way you can contact me. Yay for redundancy.

Anyways, I'm going to go get this thing done so I can get the quest going again. Just my luck that Labor Day is when a pile of unexpected work lands on my lap.

>>20586805
Works for me.
>>
>>20586805
yep, although we still need to know what the neighborhoods are.
>>
>>20586764

As many as you like. It costs no actions to ask your ghosts to spy on someone (the cost comes in the XP used to pay for the power in the first place), however ghosts are extremely flaky and don't always provide good intel. There isn't any solid system for ghost spy networks. I've just been guesstimating a percentage chance that a ghost is around to overhear something and then rolling a d100. Anti-ghost defenses are assumed to always be either non-existent or 100% effective, although now that you have an actual minion who can ditch her body whenever she wants, I'll probably have to come up with something better, since unlike your random friendly ghosts, Rica has a good reason to put effort into punching through anti-ghost defenses.

In addition to Rica Rivera and Julio Pedone, there is a third non-powered, early game minion named Larry Home who had the following statline:

H1 A1 C1 T4 I2 O3 N2 S1

Like Julio and Rica, he had a backstory that revolved around being betrayed by one of the other gangs, in his case Chimera deciding that he was a loose end and getting rid of him. Rica's an assassin, Julio's a conversationalist, and Larry's a hacker, and the plan was always to drop whichever minion was least useful to the villain. In your case it sounds like you'd probably have dropped Rica in favor of Larry. Of course, that's assuming you're using minions at all. Either way, though, you're supposed to have access to enough competent mundane people to have all your bases covered. It's powered minions that are hard to come by.

tl;dr not very hard at all, you're supposed to be able to nab a few projects from EdenTech no matter what your build looks like.

So that's dropping six on the specialists and six on the footmen, so who's going to spend the actions to raise those sets, are any sets going to start shielding any other sets and if so who's spending the actions to shield them, and also what are you going to call the new sets?
>>
>>20587135
Er wait 6 into specialist, 10 into bruiser. Steel killers Guard shield the Easy Nines. Steel Guard shields the Avalon Legion. Bruiser set shields specialist set. Call the bruisers Silver guard and the specialists Silver Legion.
New rule: Bruisers and Elite get called guard, everyone else is a legion. It will make it easier to keep things strait.
>>
>>20587224
have julio spend his actions first, then Rica.
>>
Alright, a couple of names have been swapped around to reflect the new naming scheme.

Avalon Guard changed to Avalon Legion.

Dream Boy Nine Rollers changed to Dream Boy Legion.

Easy Nines changed to Easy Legion.

Steel Guard changed to Steel Legion.

The Steel Killers have had their named switch to the Tungsten Guard. Why? Because Steel Killer makes them sound more like they have a beef with your own Steel Legion than Chimera, and tungsten is like awesome space steel and thus better than the Chimera steel they are metaphorically killing.

Also the Silver Guard and Silver Legion say hi.

Those names all sound good?

Silver legion should be a specialist set. How many actions do we have left?

Alright, between all the raising and shielding of sets, you've burned through all the actions for both Julio and Rica this turn, but still have two left for yourself.

do the Compton and swordsman spying and ruin the tungsten guard neighborhood from robbery to drugs (2 actions) netting us an additional 2 resources per turn. And costing team blue the same.
>>
>>20587582
still there OP?
>>
My computer crashed. It's like this day is fucking cursed. Anyways, back online now, though it's only an hour or two before my audience bleeds off anyway.

Your first action succeed in bringing Harbor City from Robbery down to Extortion, however the second action fails, leaving the city at Extortion. This actually makes your income worse, but you're halfway there and you still did some damage to Team Blue.

Your ghosts are able to scout out the scene in Compton. The Stalkers hold a bit of an upper hand, but it's mostly even. The place is stuffed to the gills with tough sets, but they're constantly fighting with one another and each gang is relatively small (four sets for the Stalkers, three for the Hounds), which makes them a weaker target than normal.

Also, will be throwing up the results of Swordsman's press conference shortly, as well as some other stuff that happens off-turn during the first week of December.

It also tastes foul and may blind him
>>
>>20588583
Lets not.
>>
Swordsman broadcasts his press conference live from the steps of city hall, in which he announces that he will avenge the recent terrorist attacks on the city. He paints a picture of a sinister triumvirate including Chimera, the Goblin Gang, and the Iron Guard, working together (directly or not) to undermine police authority in the city and turn it into a criminal paradise as it was back in the 80s, a dark time when super villains effectively ruled the city which many in the audience can still remember. He mentions the sabotage and vilification of EdenTech, one of Team Blue's prime suppliers, and pins the blame for the chemical weapons attack squarely on you and Chimera. He talks at great length about how EdenTech has clearly been the target of super villainous conspiracy, suffering one setback after another in the past year, culminating in the disaster at Eden Tower. "They've suffered from a smear campaign in the press and the bombings you're already aware of," he says, "but have also suffered other, less well publicized attacks. A sabotage of Project Connor by unknown agents. Corporate espionage by Dr. Kendrick Dandurand. The theft of a prototype Swordsman suit by the vigilante Kestrel."
>>
"Hey, we can both agree this looks better on me anyway," Kestrel says from the middle of the audience. She's just thrown on a hoodie and big, baggie pants over her suit, both of which are easily cast off, while the crowd clears away.

"Kestrel! Speak of the devil," Swordsman says.

"I tried that once, all I got was the Hellraiser," Kestrel says.

"Arrest her!" Swordsman says to the police on the scene.

"Uh, who died and made you mayor?" Kestrel says, "I'm Team Blue, remember? I was fighting Goblin Gangers literally two hours ago." The police glance back and forth between one another.

Swordsman covers his mic and argues briefly with the sergeant before turning back to Kestrel. "It's only a matter of time before your affiliations with the Iron Guard come to light," he says, "it'd go a lot easier for you if you admitted it now."

"You know what, I won't even try to argue with that conspiracy theory," Kestrel says, "I'd much rather be associated with the guy who saved like fifty thousand people from a chemical weapons attack instead of the corporate shill working for MurderTech."

"Team Blue or not, I'll have you removed from the area if you keep interrupting the conference," Swordsman says. In response, Kestrel just shrugs and jumps off the ground, flying up and away. The conference has already lost a lot of its momentum by that stage.
>>
In other news: It looks like the Project Connor creature, which the papers have dubbed Cancer, is kidnapping people out of Manhattan Beach, where the Silver Legion operate out of. This has the immediate effect of drawing in some police heat (and yes, the police can ignore shielding sets), which results in the Silver Legion being almost, but not quite, collapsed altogether (1/3 Morale remaining). The cops don't make much progress against the creature itself, however, beyond losing one or two officers in the subways.

Oh, by the way, new turn begun, 2nd week of December, wat do

Excellent troll. I wonder if we could get the goblin gang to lure Swordsman into a trap for us. They may not like us, but a tactical arrangement could be made. With the understanding that any gratuitous collateral damage means we walk. And publish all the info we've gathered on them on wikileaks.

The car she sold? Shouldn't be tough to get it back, and get completely splended papers proving she owns it.

Ghosts and spy pigeons in the subways. Locate the beast, smash with excessive force led by terminator Rica. Then continue ruining neighborhoods to help us make bank. Btw, is kestrel actually working for us? Because I'm thinking about sending her to clear up connor.
Also, cops can bypass sheilds? Hell, any way we can make our two money makers tougher. Also, all up the cops that died in the tunnels to learn what they saw.
>>
You know i am curious about the Dr. Kendrick Dandurand we need info on him depending on who he is i may come up with some plans.

dispatch a terminator to make contact with cancer i wanna know if there is the even the remote possibility of communicating with him.

How about that shell Company for legal shenanigans?

As for christmas presents i have tempted to give Kestral the Super Serum depending if she does something to truly deserve it we shall communicate with steve about this as well as any other gifts she may be interested in.

I like the Car idea, and I like the idea of a robo-army led by Mecha-Riviera stomping Cancer. Fuck Swordsman, we got this shit.

'Iron Master once again cleaning up EdenTech's messes.'

Look what I made! Hero Machine 3 is pretty fun, by the way. Someone who is actually good at it should do the Iron Master.

Kestrel hasn't contacted you, so no, she isn't actively working for you yet. But she has pretty clearly taken your side in this debacle. The cop ghosts mostly just went down into the subway and got murdered by Cancer. Still not sure what exactly the plan is with regards to dealing with Cancer, so waiting on that now.
>>
>>20589094
Ghosts and pigions locate. Everyone else murders led by Rica. Dump the body at the local police station with a note saying "you're welcome, IM"
>>
>>20589287

Concerning your minions, I never got any updated numbers given you now have access to 216 of them (assuming you use as many mechs as possible).

Warrior bots at H4 A4 C0 T1 I0 O3 N0 S4
Stealth bots at H0 A0 C2 T4 I2 O4 N0 S4
Pigeon bots at H3 A3 C0 T4 I0 O0 N0 S5
>>
>>20589094
We could just be all "Hey Swordsman, I noticed these things in the sewers while running one of my oh so terrible plots to make the city a better place. You deal with it sellout... I mean hero."
>>

Still no word on minion numbers. So here's a slightly more relevant hero machine thing instead.

Also, are you pointing Swordsman at Cancer, or are you taking care of him yourself?
>>
>>20589312
shouldnt it be 215?
Because one spot is taken by Steve?

160 Warriors
20 Stealthbots
35 pigeon bots
>>
>>20589453
Well suppose we document sending our troops in to deal with Cancer, would that make him cool off some?
>>
Take Cancer ourselves. Good PR.
>>
This is just me thinking, but what if we sent Kestral in with half our forces?
>>
>>20589523
HA.
Show up Swordsman with the girl that punked out his little speech, delicious.

And Kestral gets Blue people points.

Wait, damn, we're being too nice, quick, slap more whores!
Ahh, much better.
>>
>>20589469

Steve would presumably be on the list (even though you're probably not sending him into the abandoned subways).

>>20589477

Maybe. Knowledge of the future is not one of your powers.
>>
dispatch a terminator to Cancer lets see if the experimental cockroach man is willing to communicate. if not lets ask good ol Kestral about taking it out after all it will get her up close and personal to what her father's company does. Of course we will dispatch a command mech and its minions to assist.

Can we find some more information about the doctor that was mentioned?
>>
Kendrick Dandurand was a reasonably well-known AI researcher and futurist who was working towards bringing about the Singularity with funding from EdenTech. His work mostly went into Project Strider, which of course you don't have access to, but he also shows up occasionally in logs for Project Photon and Project Beachhead. He was fired from the company for unknown reasons just in October, and has not been heard from since.
>>
>>20589593
And camera's. Lots of cameras.
I like giving him a chance too, let's also document that. "Iron Master saves victim of Edentech Experiments"? Wish I was JJJ anon...
>>
well in that case i guess its time to get a hold of this researcher sounds like we would get along great. Considering the guy is into tech if the Iron Master himself does some digging he should be able to locate him.

In addition to that dispatch a terminator to see if we can communicate with Cancer if not lets see if we can get Kestral to take care of him with some help from our bots of course.
>>
You dispatch a terminator to poke around the subway tunnels where Cancer is known to lurk. Soon enough, he ambushes the bot and begins tearing into it. The bot begins asserting the need for communication while Cancer punctures it with his claws until it shuts down. Looks like Cunning zero diplomacy is not the answer to this one.

We're dropping off again, partly because I'm getting distracted, but this is about when the quest winds down most days anyway. I'll just leave this here and be sure to leave hero quest alone when running the quest tomorrow (as usual, this will be at 14:00).

Er. Leave hero machine* alone. Hero quest is something completely different.
