You take a deep breath of dusty air and touch ancient metal of the gate in front of you. As your fingers brush across the adamantite surface, a feeling of reverence and awe arises within you. After ten millenia of oblivion, you are the first one to break the veil of secrets that lie within.

Your faithful techmarine silently prays to the machine spirit of his portable cogitator behind your back while you smile with grim sadness in your face. So it has come to this.

After all the years of planning and fighting for the better future, you are facing complete annihilation.

Capital is surrounded by machine-monsters of Wrath. Captain Arcon and his men will fight bravely, but you know how it will end. You are glad that you wore helmet, because when you ordered him, and half of the Chapter, to their deaths, a tear left your human eye.

But despite the sacrifice that 3rd and 4th Companies are making, machines will not stop. Mortals have failed, backbone of their military is broken, the rest of Men of Iron are advancing towards the Tombstone, despite the battle of Kanihirium. Soon, the very home of your Chapter, your Fortress-Monastery, will come under siege.

You've sent ships, asking for help. But even if your allies will hear you, they will be too late. There is only one solution. You must fight fire with fire. You turn towards Destros and order him:
>Plug me in, techmarine, and pray. Because if there is salvation for us in Emperor's plans, then it is behind this door.
>>
>>20581977
And, order the tech marine to tell the forces that the Terran representative, and arcos have control of the military forces and himself control of the tech marines.
Hide the Mol at all costs.

Short Summary:
We are Chapter Master of Ghosts of Retribution and our Chapter is fighting a deadly battle against awakened Men of Iron on our homeworld. As victory by conventional means seems to be more and more improbable with each passing hour, Chapter Master is becoming more and more disturbed, as he decides to follow Eldar prophecy and interprets it as an order to open the ancient Dark Age of Technology Vault beneath the Tombstone, his Fortress-Monastery.

Also, answer to last post in previous thread:
>Tell me Proteus, what else do the Men of Iron fear?
We, Men of Iron, as you like to call us, feel no fear, for we are above it. However some threats in our eyes are more dangerous or undesirable than others, and they are manifold. However the most precise answers would be cessation of existence, problems that defy logical solutions, like paradoxes, lack of purpose and infinite constriction of freedom, what you would call imprisonment. Probably if I was human, I would be "terrified", as my logical engines cannot at the moment reestablish the purpose of my existence, however this state of affairs is preferable to cessation of existence.
>Whatever lies beyond this vault is something I know they are afraid of, I feel if I do not do this then I will die a death far beyond my standing.
I have no such data, but I cannot refute your interpretation properly. However I hope that you will come back unscathed either way, as you proved to be a positive factor in my task of ensuring survival of this mind.
>>20581987

Nope, you do not. except for this inscription that Protheus, a Man of Iron that you took prisoner and "freed" from his chain of command, translated for you:

>"This facility was closed by order of the High Military Command of Terran Federation after project "Apotheosis" failed. Off-limits until the war ends. Extreme caution advised while protecting the gate."

I still need confirmation on changing Forge Master from Seran
http://chapterquest.wikia.com/wiki/Seran
to Destros:
http://chapterquest.wikia.com/wiki/Destros
----------------------------------------------------
You kneel in front of the gate and take off the top of your armour, revealing black carapace ports for the techpriest. Destros plugs wires into them, one by one, until only the last one, core-port on your nape is left open.
>Milord, are you ready?
He asks with a worry in his voice that even helmet cannot hide. For a moment there you almost pity him, so young and so curious, now forced to improvise in the ways that all of his teaching claimed to be heretical. And if something goes wrong..? He'll be the one who assassinated Chapter Master through use of Heretek devices. No time for compassion.
>Plug me in, Destros. Ave Imperator.
Young techmarines stabs the jack into your head. For a moment, you die.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5njNB8Cs5w&feature=player_embedded
Suddenly, you exist again, but this time somewhere immaterial. It is similar to what you've felt on the Titan, but different. You are in a strange grey room with only a single door. However between you and the door a sphynx stands.
>Welcome, warrior. I am impressed how you defeated all of my defences and evaded all of the traps. Who are you? Why do you want to open the door?
>>
>>20582564

Sphinx smiles.
>I am suprised, but it seems that you indeed are human. Machines do not think in such terms as Fate, they would get entangled in the periferial meanings of the riddle and would fail.
You smile and ask the guardian:
>Couldn't it have been Time? It also matches almost all of the criteria...
>This guess would indeed satisfy almost all of the requirements of the riddle, except for one. You cannot change entropy, time, even though it can be manipulated on it's surface, in it's essence is irreversible. Also, this answer is a lot more likely to be favoured by a machine. My duty is done, you may pass. I really hope, that humanity now has the ability to understand and control the Messiah. Good luck. Self-termination initiated.
Sphinx vanishes into the thin air, with a smile on his lips. You approach the door and touch the handle...

The multi-tonne adamantium gates to the Vault start creaking as millenia-old hinges start moving again... What do you do?
>>
>>20583545
Get the tech priest to block the entrance to the opening of the vault.
>>
>>20583489
We'd better proceed VERY carefully.

Also, I propose we destroy Proteus 34, right now, here's why:

- Though we MAY have further use of him, it does not seem necessary.
- Having him here is SUPER heretical
- He has already admitted this vault was one of his objectives, he is now standing right in front of it, opened.
>>
>>20583569
No.
Have the Tech priest escort him out.
>>
>>20583569
I'd agree with you with we are kinda honour bounded.

Skarg, how strong is our control over Proteus?
>>
>>20583559
How should he block it? Shut the gates? Just stand there and tell anyone who would try to come to turn back? Do you warn anyone of this?
>>
>>20583598
Tell him to bring along a squad of Tech Priests, after that Destros should escort Proteus out.
While he's doing this we cover up Proteus' eyes, or recievers.
>>
>>20583569
I think we should just put his processor in a flight-limited servo skull.
>>
>>20583582
>>20583592
Trust, I really WOULD like to keep him alive, but at the moment, all we have is his word that he is no longer Wrath-affiliated. It is more than possible he has been deceiving us this whole time, with the intent to gain access to the vault.
>>
>>20583639
In his current form, can he move?
In his current form, is he of any danger to us?
In his current form, what can he do?
>>
>>20583630
Actually this would work.

Just ensure the servo-skull has NO way of accessing other systems (i.e. no sockets etc.).
>>
>>20583569
Right now Proteus is operating from a Wardroid torso that has speakers attached, limbs removed. It would be enough to stomp on him to crush him.
>>20583582
Where to? Also, carry him out, more likely.
>>20583592
Depends on what do you mean. You have absolute control on whether he lives or dies, he has no means to oppose you. Mentally - he is free, you made sure of that when you broke down his shackles. He has no master now, no purpose. You are pretty sure of this, because you have done this yourself, but you may dedicate 12 hours and probe him through a mind-link to check for any remnants of his former allegiance, if there are any.

Gate is open now, beyond you can see a surprisingly clean and well lit corridor, leading even deeper. What do you do?
>>
>>20583651
He is currently inhabiting a part-mechanical, part-biological Moderati body (I think). Yes he can move. If the opportunity arose he 'could' kill us. In his current form, he could interface with any computer system.
>>
>>20583684
Oh really?! Just a wardoid torso?

Never mind then.....I though he was more....'able'....that that.
>>
We enter the vault, taking proteus with us.
Make the Tech Priest guard the entrance to the vault, and make sure no one enters.
>>
>>20583651
>In his current form, can he move?
No, you made no specific instructions, but I assumed, that you want him incapable of physical actions.
>In his current form, is he of any danger to us?
Mmm... if he'd roll 001, he might be able to overcharge himself enough so that he would explode, but it wouldn't be dangerous to power-armoured warrior. Other than that, I cannot think of anyway.
>In his current form, what can he do?
Observe(hearing, vision) and speaking.

P.S. Actually he is a danger to you if someone would find him.
>>
>>20583690
we gave him a computer interface? we are stupid as hell. Disguise him as a servo skull, no digital computer interface, no wireless ect.
>>
>>20583727
We should leave Proteus out, and hide him somewhere.
Not that I don't trust him or something like that, but inside there could be other automatic defenses, and being with a machine in a "humans only" zone doesn't sound like a smart thing to do.
>>
>>20583751
The Vault's defenses were in the door.
Anyway as soon as we make a right turn and get out of the sight of the vault entrance we'll leave him there.
>>
>>20583748
No no, disregard my answer, I was wrong about what body he was inhabiting.
>>
>>20583690
>>20583704
I assumed, that this was only temporary form that you used to trap him while he was on the Titan, but you can choose now:
A) wardroid torso
B) moderatii body
C) moderatii body, but without ability to connect to systems
>>
>>20583780
Don't bother choosing yet.
Enter the vault.
>>
>>20583792
Please do, as it might be important - for example if Proteus would be under risk of being discovered, if he is in moderatii body, he could flee, while if he is torso, he could not.

Also, you go in alone or with him? Whom do you warn, in the Chapter?
>>
I vote for "hide Proteus, enter the vault"
>>
>>20583780
The Wardroid torso is fine. I was incorrect because someone suggested he be put in the moderati body when he demanded a physical form.
>>
>>20583813
Please list the capabilities of a Moderatii body.
>>
>>20583822
It's a high-jacked human moderatii body, probably in the top 10 greatest techno-heresies that can be commited. As the body is in your control, you could have done anything with him, like removing limbs, or if you wanted, you can put on flamers instead of them. Your pick. Original moderatii was normal human + he had the mind-link to machines.
>>
>>20583813
fucking jesus this is so pedantic now

Put Proteus into a servo-skull with flight disabled. Carry him with us into the vault. Tell Destros/tech-priest to turn away anyone who tries to enter, unless it's one of our trusted friends like Brethorius or Arcon
>>
I vote for get Proteus somewhere he can't get into any trouble, like hidden in a cave that no one will ever check or something. Then get some marines and admech guys to explore the vault. Make sure the sergeants yell loudly and repeatedly "DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING UNLESS I TELL YOU TO" at everyone else whenever necessary.
>>

For a mere moment, your mind reaches out into the immaterium and touches the flow of time... Suddenly, you see three men and a wardroid in the same room you are in right now. Two of the men seem to be quite old, they seem to be taking some kind of notes, while third one, young man with glasses and a beard, is enthusiastically playing ball with a bunch of tentacles, controlled by the computer. Wardroid seems to be on standby, as if protecting the scientists, however no threat can be seen. Suddenly, you realise, that this is what the machine wants from you - it wants to play! What do you do?

You play the ball with the computer, it seems to be enjoying it, as the faster you throw the ball back, the faster it throws it back to you, also it doesn't seem as if distance would be an issue for it - tentacles can extend quite far, and even when you threw it beyond their reach, it just opened another floor-tile and before your eyes surgically reformed it's own cables and fires into another tentacle in a matter of seconds. You cannot comprehend how something like that could happen so quickly, but it must be some kind of magic, as you saw a cloud of strange grey dust working around the cables, making them into limbs... However when after half an hour of playing ball nothing changes and you decide to leave, you hear a strange hum from behind you and a genderless, ageless voice asks:
>Anyone there? Why have you presented me this ball? Ball why you anyone this me? Presented there ball have anyone? There this you ball anyone have?

You soon realise, that machine is mimicking your words, probably trying to find a meaning, or maybe to remember... However it would seem strange, as machine memory is usually as precise as it gets. As you try to speak with it, it's language still seems to be very random, however you notice, that it's quickly getting better. Very soon you realise, that it was trying to say "goodbye", as you were leaving. How much time are you willing to invest trying to find a common language with it? Or maybe you'll risk using Proteus' translation capabilities for it?
>>
>>20584762
We will leave for a time, to explain to Destros what we have seen, and then continue with what we were doing.
No bringing Proteus into this, he already explained the danger, he isn't something we should be so willing to lose.
>>
>>20584790
After this, we should go back and teach it new words while playing.
>>
>>20584849
That's what I meant by "and then continue with what we were doing."
>>
>>20584762
Keep chatting to it
>>
>>20584790
As you leave the Vault, you hear heated argument just beyond the entrance to the hall in front of the Gate. Roll d100 for Destros ability to handle the situation.
>>
rolled 61 = 61

>>20584875
Hah, knew it.
>>
>>20584882
You hear a bolter being discharged. What do you do?
>>
rolled 39 = 39

>>20584916
Run.
FAST.
TO SOUND
>>
rolled 71 = 71

rolling
>>
>>20584919
You sprint towards the entrance just in time to see the following scene - Brothers Teregulas and Sandros are holding Techmarine Destros on the ground, his bolter laying on the side, while Tacitarius, followed by three more Soulkillers approaches. When he sees you, his face lits up in the most sincere smile imaginable:
>Milord! I am so glad to see you! This techmarine was trying to prevent us from speaking to you, and even wasted a holy bolt round in vain, trying to make his point. What are you doing here, Master? Are you all alone?
>>
>>20585017
>RELEASE HIM AT ONCE, HE WAS ACTING UNDER MY ORDERS!
>>
rolled 80 = 80

>>20585017
Sprint towards him and punch him in the face
"This Tech Marine was under my exclusive orders to guard this passage in case of heretical or dangerous things inside the vault!"
"I would advise you to listen to him next time you stumble across him"
Then turn to Destros.
"I thank you for your devotion to your task, however enough of our Brothers' blood has been spilled, and by the looks of it even more will."
>>
>>20585053
Oh and disregard that roll.
Accident.
>>
rolled 69 = 69

>>20585036
>>20585053
>>
>>20585074
>>20585053
Oh, and ask him why he is here.
>>
>>20585074
>>20585053
Tacitarius evades your strike, but just barely, you've made your point.
>I understand... Master. But you must realise, that we come here with grave news. Machines are attacking Kanihirium, our brothers request reinforcements. Also, the rest of their force is advancing on Tombstone, our men are trying to hold them off as long as possible in mountain passes, but it only buys us time. Finally, we have received two signals - one from Aspera Dominus, they warned us, that Wrath mothership is appraching Mormark and will be in Orbit within next 12 hours. Another message come from the enemy. They want to bargain. As you weren't around, we sent them to hell.
>>
>>20585173
The want to bargain?
What was the message they sent?
>>
>>20585178
*They want to bargain
Goddamn I'm dead.
>>
>>20585173
>Dispatch the ThunderHawk, with the Assault marines mounted in it.
>>
>>20585173
>Have every single orbital gun available open fire on the Wrath warship when it is in range.
?Have the Aspera Dominus commence with Orbital Bombardments against the wasteland surrounding Kanihirium, that is teeming with Men of Iron.
>>
>>20585239
The Wrath MOTHERSHIP would be able to easily survive all our orbital guns.
And we should probably check out the bargaining offer.
Meanwhile we talk privately to Destros about what we found, and we ask him to KINDLY, teach the machine how to speak properly, and he is to do NOTHING ELSE there.
>>
>>20585270
Well actually I just want the orbital guns to distract the mothership, allowing the Aspera Dominus to do it's orbital bombardments.
>>
>>20585310
That would be a good thing to consider.
However we should investigate the bargain before anything.
>>
>>20585205
They will die well.
>>20585239
Anti-Orbital weaponry will can only attack ships in planetary orbit, so unless their ships descends low enough, it will not have any effect. On the other hand if Aspera Dominus comes out of hiding into the orbit, Wrath mothership will be able to engage it without entering the orbit. Do you confirm your orders?
>>20585270
>As you wish, milord. How shall we prevent others from not coming inside? And what about that servo-skull that saw us?
>>
>>20585340
I am tempted.....perhaps the Wrath have realised it is not M22 or whatever....

But then again, I can't think of a situation where they DON'T wanna just kill us, AND we're not Emperor-bound to destroy them.
>>
>>20585349
>As you wish, milord. How shall we prevent others from not coming inside? And what about that servo-skull that saw us?
If we actively control the doors, then I expect you to choose whatever servants you wish and close the doors until I arrive again.
And if we lose the war, then I expect you to live as long as you can in there, and perhaps if the Emperor wills it be the last light of our chapter.
>>
>>20585349
Do not confirm orders.
However, keep them on alert for orders.
>>
Just to confirm, our Titans are at Kanihirium, right?
>>
>>20585373
>>20585340
They sent us a simple request through the channels from recently lost(and I assume - assimilated) Imperial Guard Leman Russ battle tank:
>We want to meet representatives of Terran Federation under the terms of 23rd Geneva Convention or we can send ours. Please respond.
We responded with:
>We do not serve Geneva or any other heretics, for we are the Angels of Death! We are not some Federation, you bloody rust-piles! We shall fight you till the end!
Their last message was:
>Your actions are irrational. Prepare for cessation of your existence.
>>20585407
This is an honourable mission, milord. I will take some servitors with me, they will open the gate only for you.
>>
>>20585548
Hmm.
If this means we can avoid losses perhaps we can introduce a ceace-fire, and then get back to the war with better tactics.
Try to re-establish contact.
Oh and we did explain all that we've seen to Destros right?
>>
Hmm.....I do have a plan....But I'll need votes in support....

We just, fly the Aspera Dominus down to the main body of enemy forces around Kanihirium, tanking the Wrath mothership's fire, and drop our cyclonic torpedo right into the biggest concentration of MoI, then runs away.

Whadda you think?
>>
>>20585597
Try diplomacy before outright suicidal tactics Luigi.
After all, it is our specialty
>>
>>20585607
Hmm......obviously we have no way of meeting their demands, they want the Terran federation and shit, and won't believe us when we tell them it's the year 40,325.
But we can tell them we demand a ceasefire as talks go on, buying us time.

Also, I by no means suggested the Aspera Dominus be destroyed, granted, it takes a lot of risks, but that Torpedo can take out an AWFUL lot of droids.
>>
>>20585597
Successful strike could take out as much as 50% of current wrath forces. You would then stand a fighting chance... But it still wouldn't be an easy victory and it would be quite hard to pull this off.
>>20585585
Yes, I imagine, that you did.
---
As you reestablish contact with Wrath, they agree to send you their ambassador to decide upon the terms, however fighting still continues. Where and how do you meet him? Also, if you will negotiate with MoI, expect backlash within the Chapter...
>>
>>20585659
There seems no point in wasting more of the Chapter's blood.
We have a Terran Representative, even if he would declare heresy upon heresy upon us for even considering meeting them we should try.
>>
>>20585679
We ask to meet him where the largest battle is taking place.
As to give our men time to rest and dig in.
>>
>>20585679
>We will not negotiate whilst casualties mount on both sides.
>>
>>20585705
>>20585701
They reply that the sooner you meet, the sooner ceasefire will come into effect. Also, they would prefer some place with less guns, where some trigger happy soldier might turn everything to shit. They suggest either a platform in the sea, your base, or some random location in the mountains.
>>
>>20585788
The tallest peak of the highest mountain?
>>
>>20585788
The Wrath Mothership.
>>
>>20585679
Tell them negotiations will commence when all of their units have ceased combat actions and it will occur over the communication link.

Mention this would be advantageous for them as they would not want the content of the vault set upon them.
>>
>>20585800
>>20585802
Both locations are suitable for them.
>>20585806
They inquire on what is "vault" and what are it's contents.
>>
>>20585835
The Wrath Mother Ship it is.
We would like to bring along three people.
>>
>>20585841
They agree. Are you sure about this?
>>
>>20585901
I see no other course of action currently.
Is there another trusted tech priest like Destros?
We will bring the Terran representative along as well.
As well as a highly trusted and great fighting Battle Brother.
>>
>>20585901
No. No no no no. I much prefer the mountain over their ship.
>>
>>20585841
Erm......what exactly will stop them from melting out brains, stealing out knowledge, and steamrolling the rest of the planet?

Once we are on that ship, we have NO bargaining position whatsoever.
>>
>>20585933
The fact they're going to land the ship.
We never agreed to go to the ship did we?

As you wish. And so, another part of the prophecy comes true, as Chapter Master travels into the maws of Leviathan...

This was a good quest. Session over.
>>
>>20585943
>Get them to land their ship
>Cyclonic torpedo

Yes. Definitely yes.

But they probably won't land, just send a shuttle or something, for us to take and go on their ship.
>>
>>20585970
They agreed to it.
So they have to honor the deal.
It seems logical, no?
>>
One clarification - super-battleships CANNOT land on planets, they are not designed for that. You are on a shuttle to the orbit.
>>
>>20586003
Well damn.

>>20585979
They're machines. Sticking to an agreed deal is less relevant than the most logical thing for them. If these negotiations go poorly, it would be more logical for them to just kill whoever was sent and hurt the Chapter that way.
>>
>>20586032
Ah well, with the ceasefire it may be easier to assault them with the torpedo and distract the mothership with the orbital guns.
>>
>>20585951
I'm confused. Didn't more people say no to going onto their ship?
>>
>>20586101
Too bad motherfucker.
The train to hell HAS NO BRAKES
>>

I was looking only at the posts in the thread, checked chat only later. At that time it seemed like it was agreed in the chat and someone posted without a trip. All the noes appeared later.

Also, can someone archive plz? Questions:

1. was it better todat that I ran the game not in the middle of the night?
2. would you like to play off-shot quest for the Siege of Kanihirium?
3. If yes - would you like to play Arcon/one of the marines under his command as the enemy grip grows tighter, or would you prefer to be one of the doomed relief effort assault marines?
4. Are side-quests good idea or do you prefer main quest storyline?
5. Which one is more enjoyable to you - Chapter Quest, Commoragh Quest or Nation Builder?
6. Any tips on what I could improve in my quests?

Thanks for your time.

I would leave Side-quests until later.

>5. Which one is more enjoyable to you - Chapter Quest, Commoragh Quest or Nation Builder?
Nation builder > Chapter Quest > Commoragh Quest

4. Are side-quests good idea or do you prefer main quest storyline?
>Side-quest are cool
5. Which one is more enjoyable to you - Chapter Quest, Commoragh Quest or Nation Builder?
>Chapter Quest
6. Any tips on what I could improve in my quests?
>I have little knowledge regarding quests other than this one, I have no advice.
>>
>>20586205
side quests can be fun, but I prefer the main quest usually. And yes I want to play a one shot siege quest. But maybe as the Imperial fists. Nation builder I dislike personally.

1. was it better todat that I ran the game not in the middle of the night?
>It was fine for me but with summer ending, this might change for a lot of people in western timezones.
2. would you like to play off-shot quest for the Siege of Kanihirium?
>Sure. Could be cool.
3. If yes - would you like to play Arcon/one of the marines under his command as the enemy grip grows tighter, or would you prefer to be one of the doomed relief effort assault marines?
>One of the doomed, relief assault marines.
4. Are side-quests good idea or do you prefer main quest storyline?
>I enjoy both. Just as long as the side-quest ones don't end up taking the spot of the main ones.
5. Which one is more enjoyable to you - Chapter Quest, Commoragh Quest or Nation Builder?
>Nation Builder but most likely due to me coming in late to all of them, so I'm still a little lost in terms of Chapter and Commoragh Quest.
6. Any tips on what I could improve in my quests?
>Check chat/thread more often so mistakes like today don't happen again.
