So I encountered a rather interesting and Hilarious situation in Deathwatch last night. I was running an adventure for my players, a Space Wolve Tactical, a Salamander Devastator, and a Storm Warden Tactical in Scout armour. The storm warden player role-plays as incredibly stereotypical scottish, carrying around bagpipes, and talking in an outrageous accent. His Characters name is Dougie McIsaac. Anyways, mild silliness aside, at the end of this adventure they encounter a Khorne Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour, who precedes to fuck the shit out of them. Space Woof gets decapitated and has to burn a fate point, Salamander has his Heavy Flamer destroyed, and he is knocked unconscious. The Chaos Lord charges Dougie who has his combat knife and bolt pistol out. He swings three times, and Dougie dodges to the side, and the other 2 miss. Then this happens.
"So, I'm behind/beside him, right?""Yep""Ok, I activate Feat of Strength, and I lift him""Ok, roll Grapple""No no, I lift him""you can't LIFT terminator armour"He then shows me the rules, and his with Unnatural S (x3) and T (2x), he can, in fact lift THREE terminators at once."Uh, alright, I guess you lift him""Now, I Caber toss him">Lolwut"Ah'll see ya later, Laddie"He rolls on his Strength, getting 09, which is 6 degrees of success (S 60 +10 for feat), plus Unnatural (x3) for 9 degrees, and then he spends 4 fate points, for 13 degrees of success total. The Khorne Lord in Full Terminator armour is fucking tossed 195 meters away, crashing to the ground, and taking 37 wounds with no armour, which is enough to finish him off. Had to end the session after that, because no one could breathe properly from laughing too hard. I let him get away with it once, but this seems a wee bit broken, considered a max level marine in power level could theoretically JUGGLE Terminators.
I'd let the Terminator get at the very least a free hit on the player tossing him with no defence possible unless grapple roll takenOtherwise I'd laugh my ass off and say go for it.
Well, you (wisely) disregarded that you can only spend 1 fate point on a test at a time. That said, the unnatural stats as originally printed were wildly unbalancing, and this is just an (amusing) example of it.Also, don't marines weigh some 450 kilos in armor? Terminators need to weigh at least 1.6 that.
Holy shit! That is the most amusing thing I have read all night.I now have an urge to write a Scottish accented, whiskey drinking, bag-pipe playing, woad painted, hammer wielding nutter. Sort of a Highlands Duke Nukem.
>>20582751Terminator weighs 400 in the Corebook, and a standard Marine weighs like 250-300
So you're running a fluff-accurate Deathwatch campaign?
>>20582762Yeah, he's a joy to have in the group. Plays it really well, and doesn't make it annoying. Drinks booze with the Space Wolf, raises Imperial Guard spirits with his Performer (Musician). All the better that his Scottish Accent is ATROCIOUS
Okay, that's awesome, not to mention ballsy, enough that I'd let him get away with it.
What's this i've been hearing about marines weighing literally a ton before putting armor on
>>20582767Yeah, I don't usually go for over the top silly shit, but in this case I just let him be touched by the emperor because it was so awesome, and technically RAW
I think in the RPGs, Termie armour itself weighs that much, and a space marine himself should logically not weigh more than 200 kilograms...
>>20582693>space marines can lift terminatorsThis is why you should never play Deathwatch "seriously."Marines can do some pretty silly shit.I once played a game where the entire party was caught without armor at a feral world human wedding party for some important person and they all caught fire. Each of them at this point in the game had a raw toughness bonus of at least 5 (one of them had 6). After Unnatural Toughness, that becomes a TB of 10.They spent 7-8 turns, each of them, just passing their WP tests, taking NO DAMAGE AT ALL (1d10 with 10 damage soak means they're not getting hurt), killing the would be flamer-assassins and being firemen. While on fire. Before they fainted from taking Fatigue levels up to their TB.Then they ate all the fucking hors d'oeuvres while the humans were figuring out what the fuck happened in the last minute in-game. Fires out but still smouldering.Life as a space marine must be equal parts hilarity and fighting.
>>20582810>>20582751Derp, forgot to quote
Magnificent. This is what we need.
>>20582812Here is a picture you may find amusing good sir.
I've heard Deathwatch being described as Space Marines suplexing Carnifexes through tables. At the time, I thought it was hyperbole. This thread has given me pause to reconsider.
Hmm, so the trend of increases in lift weight so far on the table going to 20, is 112113225225450450450So, I'd probably lock it at 450meaning that a level 8 marine with 70 strength and toughness, the Armour history that gives him +10 strength, +20 for armour, and feat of strength gives him a total of 45, which, if the table never increases, lets him lift 13500 kg. Lifting weight is double, so he can lift 27000kg. Jesus.
>>20582693>readingMild giggles and grins>a max level marine in power level could theoretically JUGGLE TerminatorsPFFAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>20582869It's hilarious at that point that he can actually overpower a Tech-marine's servo-arm.
>>20582812Fire damage ignores TB. This isn't the game being silly - it's you not knowing the rules.
>>20582894Fire damage ignores ARMOR, not toughness bonus. It is you who doesn't know the game's rules, sir.
>>20582894It ignores armor, and wasn't up-regulated for the horrendous natural damage soak of Deathwatch. Toughness ablation is still okay.CRB p.26-something.Read harder.
>>20582869Wait, wait wait. And if he rolls a Strength test, and gets say, less then 10. Thats 9 degrees of success, Plus 4 more of Unnatural, and then spend a fate point, for 14 total. Thats another 11,700 kg. This Marine can total lift 38,700 kg, or 38.7 tons. A Rhino APC weighs 30 tons. Your Rhino breaks down in the middle of a battle. Fuck this shit, this marine can CARRY IT FOR YOU.
>>20582802It's not RAW - he'd have to grapple him before lifting, as it's a combat action he's trying to do. The Chaos Lord would also have a chance to dodge it.
>>20582948Suddenly MC's ability to flip a vehicle over is starting to seem less impressive.
Well, we made the Imperium's fastest space marine once, now we just do the same thing for strength.
>>20582883But, what about arm-wrestling? If the tech-marine and said super-strength marine were arm-wrestling, and the super-strength marine let the tech-marine use one actual arm and a servo-arm, would he still win?
>>20582948How do we assault enemy position? We get a squad of guardsmen into Rhino and let the Space Marine carry it to the enemies.
>>20582975You can picture it now, can't you.A traitor warband largely formed from tank regiments of the Imperial Guard.Suddenly 200 space marines sprint across the battle field flipping all their tanks upside down before running off laughing.
>>20582948If your Rhino is broken, then it stops being useful, because it's so easy to repair. Just leave it.Such a marine can carry THE PARTY and then some to where they need to go.
>>20583005How fast was he?
>>20582869throne be damned he could throw a landraider if he wanted too
Pretty poor excuse for a scott. The goal of the cabertoss is to flip the thing and have it pointing away, not to chuck it across the room.
>>20583028I think the numbers ranged from about 70kmph to over 200kmph depending on how you crunched the numbers.>>20583013Make it so!
The Leman Russ tank was named after the primarch, due to his famous party trick of juggling them, fully crewed and armed.
Where's the /tg/ seal of approval when you need it?
>>20582948Lets take this to the next level, by combining it with FLASH MARINE.So an Assault Marine, level 8, carrying a dilation field. He also has 70 agility, +5 for his chapter, and corvus armour, giving him 80 total. AB is 8So, -1 for encumbered, but +1 for hulking. Jetpack doubles it,16Dilation field gives unnatural Ag and Speed.32 speed.Lets give him Sprint64Running, this marine can travel 384 meters in a round, which is 5 seconds. This is 276 Kph.Now he jumps. He gets +30 for running, for a total of 110 on his test.
>>20583013I demand drawfaggotry immediately!
>>20583061>Yo Russ! Show us that trick of yours!>Sure do! Horus, hold my beer.
>the traitors have deployed heavy weapons in the hill sir>fine, let them have at it>BATTLETHROWERS! PREPARE THE STAIRSTHROW!>hey Childraper, what are those Loyalist dogs planning?>I don't know, it seem... wait, they're throwing something...>grenades?>no... it... it's OH DARK GODS PRESERVE ME THEY ARE THROWING STAIRS!
>>20583067give him a powerfist, hes fast enough that his momentum plus the power field would destroy titans
>>20583067Again, this lucky fuck rolls under 10. thats 10 degrees of success. His SB is 35, so half is 17 meters, plus 10. He jumps 27 meters in the air, going 276 Kph, and then throws the Rhino he is carrying. Chaos, are you even trying anymore?
>>20583013>>20583072>The infamous TANK TOSSER chapter>colors: motherfuckin' PLAIDTake that, Space Marine players and your relatively easy to paint minis!
>>20583088He juggled that too, taking swigs between passes of the tanks.Helped that his beer mug was the size of a Rhino, too.
>>20583013The Codex Astartes Tank-Tipper Battalion? They probably have a much more eloquent name than that layman's term, but that's the general idea.
>>20583106What would the damage be on that? DW throwing rules suck
Space Marines throwing Rhinos filled with Space Marines towards enemy lines.>We call this tactic Steel Throw!
>>20583117The Codex Astartes calls this maneuver the Barrel Roll!
>>20583124The damage is "Hit by a turbo tank"Seriously. BURN A FATE POINT, MOTHERFUCKER.
>>20583114The real reason why Horus left - he never could match Russ in juggling.
>>20583067>stairs?>let me tell you something guardsman>i don't need stairs>for i am the fastest>i am the greatest>VGTG >VGTG >VGTG >VGTG >VGTG
Suddenly, all those angry marine contraptions and tactics don't seem to be too far off. Never heared abou the Storm Warden chapter though... are they all cliché scotish or was that just that players take on that?
>>20583173They are FFGs own chapter. They are recruited from a planet called Sacris where pretty much Braveheart gets acted out 24/7. They all use big claymores, talk about honour, and have scottish names.
>>20583173They're Scottish-inspired, for sure, though not super stereotypical. They do sometimes duel [each other, and the enemy] with claymores, though. Not even like, power claymores.Just fucking gigantic Astartes-sized slabs of metal.
>>20583173They're kind of an all-gaelic bigade. There's Scottish, Welsh, Irish, etc. Lots of furs and honor and clannishness. They're pretty fun. I played a Storm Wardens Librarian that I played like the avuncular non-molesty Irish priest.
This is the best thread on /tg/ right now.
>>20583215>>20583202>>20583234Huh, that sounds pretty fun to pull of tabletop wise. Guess one could go for space wolf heads and maybe some kilts for the seargants along with all sorts of archaic weaponry.
>>20583237It's gonna be even better if someone can make a pic of a Space Marine squad that goes around flipping enemy tanks
>"Sir, Abbadon has breached the walls, and destroyed all out super heavy tanks, and our Chimaeras are retreating. What do we do?">"Release the weapon"Can you imagine? You have finally defeated the hated fortress world of Cadia. Standing proud atop a mountain of Guard and Loyalist Dog Astartes. Vast legions of Chaos cheer and bow to you. Greater daemons are submitting to your power. Life is good.Suddenly a commotion from the ruins of the Imperial guard Stronghold. A bone chilling cry of rage echoes forth, and what appears to be a chimaera begins ploughing through your army going much faster then it should. Supermarine takes a fucking leap of legend, coasting through the air, before smashing the entire tank down on Lord Abbadon's head, before legions of stunned daemons.Pic related, some artfag should redraw it
>>20583277Whoops, forgot pic
>>20583277This is the nearest I got.Sorry.
>>20583277Bonus point if a Baneblade appear out of the Chimera at the last moment
>>20583332make it a reaver titan with turbo lasers and a volcano cannon
Oh my god this is epic
So, now we have a Marine that can run faster then any vehicle on tabletop, and can lift and throw Chimaeras and Rhinos while He's doing it. What else can we stack on this fucker?
>>20583407Oh, right, make it a Warlord with Creed driving
>>20583407on the contrary i dont think you do
>>20583406It should be two different marines. The fast one acts as a distraction whist the strong one closes the distance and flips his shit.Pic related. tfw
Don't forget, stairs are their #1 enemy.
>>20583406Get him enough toughness and armor bonuses to survive a railgun hit. Or eight.
>>20583452Get some fucking servitors to cement the stairs into a goddamn RAMPFast Marine would probably exit the atmosphere
>>20582869When we sent an email to FFG support about numbers higher than the table (as tends to happen in Deathwatch), they said, "for every increase, the load increases by 250 kg."
>>20583474Well, we make him a tech marine. get rid of the Servo Arm, so he can use a jetpack.TFIW 4Artificier ArmourBionic everythingThats TB 7 x214 + bionics (2)16, with Armour 16 everywhere.32 soak. Cometh at me
>>20583486Which collapses first, the Marine or the floor? Sounds like a challenge to me
>Space Marine chucks lamp post across the battlefield>Snipes a cultist with it>A few seconds later, a Titan infiltrates from the postfuck rules
>>20583566DRAWFAGGOTRY!FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! DRAWFAGGOTRY!
>>20583486You almost ruined the fun, but wait.POWERFISTS!Now its Unnatural (x5)Strength 70SB 35 + 3(Armour with good history)TB 1452 total10250 Carry20500 LiftS Test to lift more.70. +10 for feat. +10 for Bionics90Rolls under 108 DoS + 5 fo unnatural +1 for Fate point14 total7000 more liftonly 27.5 tons now. FUUUUCK.
So, now here we have a Tech Marine who can run 276 kph hour, can lift a Rhino and Throw it, and can soak 32 points of damage. What do we add now?
This is why they went to +s instead of Xs for un-natural stats.
Depends on the tone of your campaign, if you don't mind it being at bit silly, then let there be terminator jugglring.
>>20583632Psychic powers?Performance and inspirational skills?Tactical genius skills?Epic level Apothecary training to the point where he can nearly defy mortality?
>>20583632Any way to boost willpower so he can't be mind dominated?
>>20583603Fuck the Rhino. The Tyrannosaurus Rex weighed in at 6.8 Metric tons. This Marine can Fly into battle carrying a Tyrannosaurus Rex on each Powerfist, and one on each boot.
>>20583692He can duel wield the T-Rex?Holy shit!I think we have found the reincarnation of one of the 2 missing primarchs
>>20583256From what I've heard, Storm Wardens are one of the few Space Marine chapters that are tank-based. One their number was noted for doing the work of an entire gun crew with incredible speed. They also developed a fighting style for using thunderhammers and thundershields in conjunction.
He should be added to 1d4chan.
>>20583603It's time to get....RRRRRIIIIIPPPED!
>>20583676Ok, for that we remove the Tech Marine Part, Its not really needed.Librarian, Artificier Armour, all bionics. He rolled 3 20s in ChargenS, T, AgWp, is important, but less so. Stack that shit up to like 60Lets make him a Blood Angel for that sweet +5 to Agil we need. Now he casts Might of Heroes on Himself, Increasing his Strength to 95, allowing him to lift 32.5 tons, following previous math. HURRAH, he can lift rhinos Again! And he also uses Force Dome on himself, giving himself another 20 armour, giving him a total of TB 16 everywhere, and 32 armour, for a total soak of 48
>>20583719Make him a Chaos Undivided Space Marine and he could carry a Demon Prince of every chaos god at the same time.
>>20583799Requesting picture of him holding each chaos god and then they start fighting much like the guy holding the pug and two cats and they start flipping out.
You can't lift anything without grappling it.
>>20583852Says who? He's just pretty much grabbing the Armour and tossing it, lightning fast. Not getting into a wrestling match
>>20583903and ignore the lightning-fast reflexes every marine, chaos or loyalist has?
>>20583962The marine is already speeding towards him at about 276 km/h, by the time the target understands what the heck is going on the marine has alreadyat arm's reach
>>20583982I think he meant in the OP's case. But who gives a shit, it was awesome. I'd rather have the Chaos Lord get Caber tossed, rather then the Chaos Lord tears the Scouts arms off, and its gg
>>20583072 Ah screw it, amateur drawfag here. Will give it a go.
>>20583849>Slaanesh and Khorn fighting in the arms of a chaos space marinewhy is this so awesome
>>20584074More like hatefucking.
>>20584091>Marine is running at 250 km/h>Khorne is raging and screaming bloody murder against everything on the battlefield>Nurgle look confused trying to make sense of the situation>Slaneesh has a ecstasic expression and look like is enjoying the fuck out of it>Tzeench hold on tight screaming "NOT AS PLANNED! NOT AS PLANNED!"
>>20582847>I've heard Deathwatch being described as Space Marines suplexing Carnifexes through tables. At the time, I thought it was hyperbole. That sounds totally awesome. My jealousy at Deathwatch grabbing up the newer Robotech guy increases every day.
thread needs archiving
>>20584202I agree. How do you vote for Archive?
>>20582693Spending multiple fate points in a single action? how
Vote already underway.
>>20584546>>20584433>>20584202Also archiving on Foolz automatically.Totally gonna try talking local store owner to run on these operands for next 40K game, nothing but different chapers and abandoned buildings and vehicles. No weapons.Last one standing wins.
>>20584583Oh fuck that would be awesome. A Deathwatch Megabrawl
>>20584779It would look like something put together by Monty Ohm.
>>20584583>nothing but different chapers and abandoned buildings and vehicles. No weapons.Last one standing wins.Allow at least one weapon per dude. The crazier, the better.
>>20584924No. The buildings and vehicles are their weapons. RHINO FISTS.BUILDING MACES. THAT'S NOT RHUBARB WIRE AND 150 LBS BLOCKS OF CONCRETE. THOSE ARE FLAILS.
This is he who started the vote and thanks to all you guys who got it to +8!
>>20585028By Vehicles rules, you could do 3D10+31+SB(So 45) for an average 91 damage with a Rhino fist if you are running at balls out speed and hit someone with it. And Every point of damage done causes a meter of knock back
>>20584019Done, crappy speedpaint but did my best to deliver Spesh Mareens! lobbing chaos tanks about.

what if he were to throw something like a thunder hammer while going that fast? it could probably lobotomise a biotitan.
>>20585902Speaking of throwing hammers, I always though it would be awesome to Play a Tech Marine from the Space Wolves, who has Ferric summons. Then you Throw your Master Crafted Thunder hammer at people, and then yell, "MJOLNIR, TO ME!" and Ferric summons it back to you
What's all that talk about Space Marines going faster than 200mph?

However, if a player wanted to say, knock someone off their feet with an attack, I'd let them if say, they preformed and all out attack, and then succeeded on an opposed strength vs agility and like -20 to them
>>20582693My Scottish Blood approves of this
Not entirely unheard of. Space Wolves had a hero who picked up a fucking land raider to save his unit from the orks.
>>20587600CANON AND DUBS SUPPORTED, THE CODEX ASTARTES APPROVES
We should create a home-brew chapter of Scottish caber-tossing marines, which only become marines if they can throw a large enough weight far enough, and they hone their skills until they can toss tanks.Dougie McIsaac should be the chapter master, and his feat is tossing a Titan.
>>20588684I support this action.
